First impression: Мушу визнати, я мало що зрозуміла з цієї історії, тому що це моя перша прочитана (в загальному) тайванська маньхва і китайськими традиціями я мало цікавилася. Проте, мені сподобалася сама ілюстрація, наче чорнилом і пером, видно, що герої китайці, але розрізнити їх все одно можна. До того ж, дуже красиво зображено самі вулички, люди на задньому фоні і виокремленні вікнами речі. Але мені все ще було складно читати і вчитуватися, так, це різні речі. Складно читати було через читку зліва направо, дуже непривично, бо в електронному варіанті не помітно, а тут тримаєш книгу в м'якій обкладинці з хорошим друкарським папером, що непросвічує, і читаєш задом наперед.

А «вчитуватися» було складно в історію. Повторюся, я не цікавилася китайськими традиціями, ця частина Азійських лісів для мене темна, на відміну від японських чи корейських традицій. Основна задумка зрозуміла одразу: в Китаї жінка без чоловіка — ніщо, а якщо родила дівчинку, а не хлопчика, то зась їй! Було жахливо розуміти, що таке насправді відбувалося раніше і, мені здається, навіть сьогодні так. Чудово зображені забобони Шильов, що народила дочку, чим пристидила чоловіка, але читати подробиці деяких ритуалів у виносках після глав було трохи противно… Ворожка просто якась богиня, вона дуже красива і мені подобається її замкнутий і скритний характер, не до кінця зрозуміло хто вона, але в майбутньому це буде по волі сюжету. Правда її ритуали… Може, то я привикла до пишності, але деколи ці ритуали або на одну сторінку, або взагалі на пів, навіть не зрозуміло, що сталося, як перегортаєш сторінку, а вони вже закінчили і йдуть деінде. Це було трохи дивно. Хоча ці ритуали були важливі в сюжеті, сама задумка мені сподобалась, а ще й головна героїня така розумниця. Мені подобається, як її зобразили з великими круглими очками і «бубликами» на голові, схожа на дитину, бо бігає туди-сюди, але кмітлива і хитра — як цікаво вона придумала визволити свою служницю від злодіїв. І в неї дуже хороші відносини з старшим братом.

В історії є духи і магія, ну, швидше, ворожіння, хоч коли Ду Дзє відправляли з храму до аптеки, авось допоможуть зі здоров'ям, я сміялася. Тоді ж все оберегами лікували, а тут Ворожка і пан Ґво їй навідріз кажуть, що таким не займаються і це не допомагає. А правда на стороні головної героїні, які там ліки або тельбухи допоможуть, якщо її привиди дітей переслідують? Чорні сторінки з розмитими білими силуетами новонароджених малят викликали мурашки…

Том 1 не закінчує історію, навпаки на цікавому моменті з Ворожкою обривається, а я хочу читати далі, але 2 тому ще немає. Хоч я мало зрозуміла моменти з традиціями і ритуалами, сам факт, що це історія про те, як в Китаї жінок і дівчат притискали очевидний. І це цікаво, навіть якщо для мене трохи заплутано. Звісно ж я буду чекати 2 том і придбаю його собі, я хочу знати, чим це все закінчиться.
