A giggle threatened to rush from his throat as fingers skittered over the length of his side, dipping into the sensitive space below his ribs and pressing ever so slightly. Tao Mo wriggled, curving both into Gu She’s chest and away from his hand. 

“A-Zhi!” He gasped, pushing at his husband’s arm and laughing at last. Tao Mo took the hand that had been attempting to tickle him and placed it firmly on his hip. 

Gu She watched him with a face alight with joy, the curve of his lips gentle and the flush on his cheeks a delicate pink. “Yes, love?” He asked in a voice that belied no wrongdoing. 

“When you brought me to bed I didn’t think it was so you could torment me like this,” Tao Mo said with a pout as he slapped lightly at Gu She’s bare arm. Another laugh escaped him as Gu She bumped their noses together. “State your true intentions before I send for Guozi!” 

“And if I have no intentions?” Gu She asked with a kiss to his cheek. He wrapped his arm around Tao Mo’s waist and pulled him closer, the lengths of their bodies pressed close and warm. All thought flew from Tao Mo’s mind at the action. “What if I just wanted to keep you here in my arms for a while?” 

Tao Mo shivered as lips trailed from his cheek to his jaw, warm and inviting as he tipped his chin up to provide more room. His fingers found the broad expanse of Gu She’s chest and wandered, mapped the well-known contours for the hundredth time just for good measure. 

“I might let you…”

Gu She hummed, the vibration sending little frissons of excitement down Tao Mo’s spine. “You’re too good for this world,” Gu She whispered as he dotted kisses down the column of Tao Mo’s throat. “I am so lucky to have you here in our bed, happy and safe and mine…” He tightened his grip around Tao Mo’s waist and hummed again. “Will you let me keep you here a little while longer?”

Tao Mo pushed gently, urged his husband to lay back on the bed before sitting up to lean over him. “You can keep me here forever, love, if that is what you want.”

“You shouldn’t offer such things so casually, I might just take you seriously.”

He leaned down and kissed Gu She firmly, wound his fingers into dark hair and pressed their bodies together. When he pulled back he saw the bright bright flush on his husband’s cheeks, saw the glimmer of desire in his eyes and smiled. “It wasn’t a casual offer.”

Gu She rose up to meet him, offering his own kisses and touches, drinking the soft moans that fell from Tao Mo’s lips with each kiss. They fell into one another and the words lay between them like a promise. 

They would, of course, leave the bed at some point. But not for a while. Not when there was love to be made.

i just want to talk a minute about the scene where gu she and tao mo first meet because it is tropey in the best possible way.

first of all, we have tao mo outside the tea house trying to read the sign and instead decides to figure it out based on surroundings/smells rather than characters. a lot could be said about his own character through this fact but that's another story. anyway, he concludes that there are probably beautiful women upstairs (like a brothel), and then guess where he sees gu she for the first time? walking down the stairs in his beautiful gold and white robes surrounded by flower petals.

the cinematographers were like alright let's make it certain this is love at first sight. the multiple angles of them seeing each other, followed by the 360-degree freeze shot with flower petals falling around them. had this been a bigger cdrama you can bet your ass the couple-song would be playing over this whole scene.

then it picks up again and tao mo does this adorable, "stereotypical high school girl seeing the hot football player looking at her" blush/smirk as he walks past gu she. like this man fell fast and he fell hard.

now let's talk about gu 'i hate seeing you go but i love watching you leave' she. he turns and watches tao mo pass. now this could be the fact he recognizes tao mo from the tragic backstory (tm) or because he also is catching the feelings. his actions moving forward prove it was the latter. like....sir....you are not slick. neither is your himbo love interest.

anyway they both fell in love at the same time like taylor swift in her "love story" music video. i will die on this hill thank you for your time.

Everything ached. From the balls of his feet to the tips of his fingers, he just ached. But knowing they were both alive made the pain worth it. Gu She let the twinge of pain in his back remind him of the danger they had faced and the life that still flowed through his veins. 

Healing took time - he knew that all too well. And though his heart would never truly recover from the death of his brother, he knew his body would recover from the sting of arrows. Besides, he had been injured doing a noble thing; saving the life of a man who meant more to him than he would ever dare speak aloud was worth a little pain. It would be worth his life, he thought, in the end.

Fingers found his and squeezed gently. He turned his head and looked up, his eyes meeting Tao Mo's and a different pain ran through him. Tao Mo looked tired, his eyes red and his skin pale from his own pain and tears. But he still smiled softly and brushed a stray lock of hair from Gu She's face. The brush of gentle fingers on his cheek was better than any medicine, any balm, any prayer for health and vitality.

“You worried me,” the magistrate said under his breath. He sounded small, nervous. It stung at Gu She's heart. 

He let a smile form on his own lips and thanked whatever god or spirit or ancestor that had given him this man's attention for their kindness. “I think we worried each other.”

Tao Mo sniffed, a bubble of half-laughter falling from his lips, and brought Gu She's hand up to his mouth. He pressed a single kiss to the skin there, a kiss as gentle as summer rain but as shocking as a winter storm. Gu She shivered as the lips he had dreamed of hovered over his skin. 

“You could have died,” Tao Mo said after a moment. The warmth of his breath tickled the back of Gu She's hand. His voice wavered and Gu She wished he could do something more than lay in the bed without moving. He wanted to wrap Tao Mo in his arms, wanted to kiss him and hold him, wanted to put him on a horse and ride to the docks and sail away like he had planned-  

But there was more to be done. They needed to stay. Gu She firmed his resolve.

“So could you. And I couldn't let that happen,” he whispered.”The world is a cruel and terrible place; to lose you would make it irredeemable.” 

Tao Mo sucked in a sharp breath and squeezed Gu She's hand. “Gu She-” 

“I'll keep you safe,” he interrupted, dragging their joined hands to his own lips and pressing the words into Tao Mo's skin with a kiss. “I promise.”

He would do whatever it might take to keep Tao Mo safe.
