I was born into fandom. My parents grew up on Tom Swift and Tom Corbett. My mom was part of the letter writing campaign to get Star Trek back on the air. My dad helped form a viking reenactment group. Both parents costumes/cosplayed, mom hasn't much since Dad passed but she's getting back into it. I wrote my first fanfic in first grade; it was a self-insert where I married Red Butler from Rainbow Brite and Indigo was my MOH. I grew up going to conventions and SCA events with my family.

I am INCREDIBLY lucky to have had the examples of all ages of people in fandom around me from the time I was born. (Also as a side note, having That Many queer people around meant when I came out, I already knew I wasn't alone.) A thriving geek ecosystem is what we NEED and I am ready to throw down with anyone for being ageist. Young or old or in-between. Can you imagine everyone having the kind of experience I had? A full expression of what a wonder having love for your fandoms through life is? Knowing you don't have to give up that love and community ever?

Fandom is ALL of us.

I once wrote a headcanon stating each of the Rise bois’ favourite musicals because let’s be real they live underneath Broadway and their dad is an actor of course they’re theatre kids…

If I remember correctly, I proposed that Raph’s fav was Hades Town, Mikey’s was Hamilton, and Leo’s was Wicked. I figured that Donnie’s fav was Be More Chill.

I am now altering that headcanon, I submit to you that Leo would enjoy In The Heights so much because of all the Spanish in that musical and if they love Lin-Manuel Miranda then OF COURSE Leo would love that musical. And I think that Donnie, though he does like Be More Chill, would absolutely ADORE Little Shop of Horrors.

(And no this has nothing to do with the fact that I recently became obsessed with the revamped musical with Jonathon Groff and Jeremy Jordan, what are you even talking about—)

"Vessel" is definitely like, shortened/practical nickname for someone with a puritan compound/virtue name like "Vessel-of-the-lord-our-god", or something of the like.

Oh yeah, a lot of those names in aggregate gave off Crunchy Christian Mom vibes. Vessel in the same list as Oath, Reason, Written (as in, the Word of GodTM, I'm assuming)? Strong "we are only allowing Christian Rock in our beige household full of plants" energy

My dad said something a few weeks ago that's been rattling around in my brain ever since.

See, he always said we were Polish. I knew that my grandfather's grandparents were Polish immigrants. My eldest aunt on that side put together a family genealogy a while back, and I saw their names in there. But I never felt like we were connected to that heritage, beyond eating kielbasa regularly.

Then the other day my dad was watching Backyardigans with my daughter, and I came in while they watched the "Polka Palace Party" episode. And my dad told me that when his family attended Polish weddings as a kid, they would dance the polka. He said he couldn't remember the steps anymore, but wished he did.

Until that moment, I never really grasped how close I was to an actual cultural heritage. A culture my dad had participated in within his lifetime that my brothers and I knew almost nothing about.

At the library the other day I found a book of Polish traditions and folklore, so now I'm learning more about my ancestors' customs! I also taught myself to read the Polish alphabet. And I'm getting a Polish word of the day in my inbox. I can now say useful things like "kettle" and "the fork is on the dirty plate." I'm so handy to have around, I know.

I also messaged my aforementioned aunt after the library visit to ask her if she knew anymore. She said she could teach me to dance the polka! But she ALSO said that there was a festival later in the year that had been very important when they were growing up, and where it's held our ancestors actually helped found a Catholic church! So now me and L and my dad and my aunt are going to go on a family heritage trip later this year!

I'm just so excited to connect more deeply to my family, both living and dead

BREAKING: Local Sonic newbie* has no clue how to play through them for the first time

With this year already shaping up to be an exciting time for Sonic, I've basically decided to just start playing through at least an assortment of Sonic games. (Thanks, random guys online for those PC decompilations of the first two games (even if the Spring Zone boss is the worst)!) And it's kind of weird because even though I've had a bit of interest in Sonic for eight years now (longer than most franchises) and have kind of dipped my toes in even some of the newer classics over the years (Colors, Generations, and Mania), I'm still pretty new to most of the actual games. So a part of me feels like going with some casual, safe picks, Safe bets like the Genesis classics, Colors, Generations, Mania, and the other consensus good Sonic games, maybe also slightly iffier ones or ones that might not have aged so well like the Adventure games (on GameCube).

That said, my more daring side that loves planning whole marathons for game series (and then giving up by the end of game #3 at the absolute max) is thinking, "ALL OF THEM" (okay, maybe not the allegedly really bad ones like 3D Blast, Shadow, Forces, or vanilla '06). Play the good ones! Play the meh ones (I guess like Heroes, Lost World, and Superstars)! Play the 8-bit games and handheld exclusives, even the ones that are just shrunken 2D versions of console games like Colors on DS or Generations on 3DS (funny how we now have the big versions of both games on a Nintendo handheld, even if at least one of the ports got botched)! It's not even like accessibility is a huge issue, as having a Windows laptop that can at least run 16-year-old Valve games really well at 1200p/60fps as well as both a modded 3DS and modded Wii U means I've got plenty of options for at least the pre-Switch stuff!

This is why I’ve never and will never search anything and add ‘Reddit’ to the end, I’d rather go on the 60th page, download seven Trojan viruses, get redirected to a watch mojo video and have my identity traced and profiled to a Bulgarian ransom scheme to know if dogs can eat lettuce than have to see butthole photos being used as ‘weapons for the resistance’ by 40 year old loser men with smegma and Cheeto dust fingers who haven’t even wiped with tp in the last 16 years all because I wanted to know why my phone randomly updated… what a classless excuse for a website

My sister I believe was the one who taught me to use YouTube to mp3 to download music and such(something I use especially for edits I make. )

And she learned this from a writing teacher we both had (bless his soul,may he be in the best afterlife rn)

So yeah. Kids aren't gonna learn if we don't teach them. It's the same thing with stuff like cursive and certain bits of internet and recent history that we experienced but they didn't. It's our job to teach, or not be shocked they don't know somthing that's not taught.

Life lessons

Totes needed to know this in college. How's life going to change if I'm not doing anything too drastic. 👿 Oh yeah, MS Dx.

An ex was def my ride or die pal minus the excitement. Thing is, it's also my choice to let them go to enjoy their healthy college and post university life of success.

There's no way I would want to hop them back from their potential self. I'm so happy & proud of them today.

Nerd boy who follows a very popular you everywhere, like a puppy

He watches your cheer practices, and always likes your posts first.

Youd find it weird if he wasnt so fucking cute, the way he can barely keep eye contact, the way he stammers when you ask him for homework, the way the bulge in his jeans grow while he explains the homework when your bent over his desk.

Honestly you knew exactly what you were doing inviting him to your place for a study session. The nervous gulp he let out when you answered the door in your skimpy house shorts and crop top, winking and telling him your parents weren't home.

He sits across the dining room table from you, (he'd probably overheat if you got any closer)

His gaze locked to the floor while his clammy hands bunch in a fist, you're leaning over the table pointing at a question in one of the many text books scattered across the table.

"do I make you nervous" you ask randomly

He stutters over himself, looking everywhere but your gaze

"Look at me when your talking" you command, watching the blush overwhelm his cheeks

You dont really know why, but his nerves turn you on. You find yourself crawling over the table to him, making him face to face with your chest.

It's funny the way his eyes widened as you slip the straps off your top down your shoulders. You take his hand and kiss it before placing it on your chest.

Having the class geek sucking tf outta your tits was not part of your study plan.

Especially when his fingers slip under the band of your shorts too.
