“If it wasn’t for Sugar here, my grief counselor, I’d be a wreck. My stepson took everything I cared about. My wife…my Camaro…I-I’m sorry. I have trouble talking about it” (p. 274-275).
Smelly Gabe has a young blond grief counselor named Sugar. A “grief counselor” named Sugar, who’s patting his hand and sitting next to him during his TV interview.

I never noticed that it was implied that after Sally went missing Gabe was cheating on her.
“She was interviewing him in our apartment, in the middle of a poker game, and there was a young blond lady sitting next to him, patting his hand. A fake tear glistened on his cheek. He was saying, ‘Honest, Ms. Walters, if it wasn’t for Sugar here, my grief counselor, I’d be a wreck’…”
Gabe never actually cared about Sally so why would he have a grief counselor besides keeping up appearances for insurance or something. If she is an actual grief counselor why is she comfortable being called “Sugar” unless it’s her first name. That’s not impossible but the amount of people with that name is so low it would be surprising. It’s easier to assume Gabe was cheating on Sally that it is to assume Sugar was there for any other reason.
We already knew that Gabe was abusive and a horrible person so I guess it’s not that shocking he’d cheat on Sally too. It just went over my head when I was reading it as a kid.

pairing: io laithe / estinien varlineau word count: 4.6k summary: [modern au] estinien meets io in a support group for grieving youths. set five years before this.
Estinien is early—the first one in the room, as usual, even before Counselor Miounne arrives. It’s part of the ritual.
Hit the lights and dim them to three-quarters. Turn on the fancy instant coffeemaker, make sure there are enough of those little fucking pods for everyone. Sugar and powdered creamer too. Music on, some unobtrusive classical harp thing he doesn’t care for. Then he arranges nine chairs in a loose circle and, selfishly, puts the least squeaky one in his spot across from the window.
It helps, to do these tasks before their sessions. The work allows him to mentally prepare for this, because when is it easy to circle death’s drain for two hours?
With the space set up, he slings his backpack over his claimed chair and waits.
They stroll into the meeting in ones and twos. They make their coffee, ask about their weeks (in the casual way, where you’re supposed to answer “fine” even if it wasn’t; the real answers will come later). Eventually, Miounne enters and everyone finds a seat.
He isn’t great with names, but he knows a few by now. Lyse, the one with the sister and dad, and one of the youngest members. Leofard, the one with the mom. He knows all the faces though, and the one hovering by the door is new.
She’s tall, but slouching a little, crossing her arms like she’s scared to take up space or trying not to be seen. Inky blue hair is piled into a loose bun on top of her head, with long wavy strands hanging around her freckled face. Her eyes are bloodshot, almost too focused. She must be new.
As he watches her, her gaze cuts over to him—
“Estinien,” Miounne calls. His attention snaps from the girl at the door to his counselor. “Another chair, please?”
“Yeah, sure.” He quickly grabs one from the nearest stack, looking for a decent place to put it. Two kids slide their chairs apart so he can fit this one between them. Right in front of the window.
He sits again and Miounne claps softly, still standing in the center of the circle.
“Hi friends,” she says, more gently than usual. “It’s been a while since we’ve welcomed a new face, hasn’t it? I know we’re all capable of extending warmth and patience to those who need it, so let’s be mindful of that as we welcome Io to our group, okay?”
She gestures to the door, beckoning the new girl in. Io. He’ll try to remember that. He wonders who she lost and when, and tries not to wonder how. The how never matters anyway. Gone is gone.
“Welcome to Haven: Youth Grief Counseling, Io. Take a seat, just there, sweetie.”
Io sits down and Estinien regrets this seating arrangement; he’s lost the window view. She glances around the circle, her polite smile is a tight line. Her eyes flick to him once more, then back to the floor.
Miounne sits too. She claps one more time and they begin.
Next week starts the same. His chin is in his hand, elbow propped on his bouncing knee as they arrive. Lyse. Leofard. New girl.
Leo takes his seat next to Estinien and leans over. Oh god.
“Estinien,” he whispers loud enough for almost everyone to hear. His eyes flash to the new girl making coffee by herself. “I found out what her deal is.”
“Happy for you,” Estinien says. That’s not his business. But he stupidly glances at Leo anyway.
“She’s like you. Total wipeout—we’re talking mom, dad, two younger siblings—about a year ago. Just now going back to school, apparently.” He looks at her again, taking a bold head-to-toe survey, and Estinien follows. She’s tall, willowy, and there’s something disciplined about her posture; the set of her shoulders feels intentional even in her depression slump. Her ears tilt, and he turns back around. Leofard is still staring. “Wonder what else she’s ready to get back into…” He winks at Estinien.
“Probably best to leave her alone. She’s not here to find a date,” he says.
Leo huffs in fake offense. “Well, neither am I but if it happens, it happens.”
A month passes, one week bleeding into the next, and Estinien is always early to Haven. But someone is earlier today, of all days. The door is open, the light is on, and the chairs are in their circle.
Io is waiting.
He remembers her name now. It’s easy to remember the girl who hasn’t said anything in five sessions. It’s unusual, but understandable; they’re all strangers to her, and if what Leofard said is true, he’s impressed she’s showing up at all.
Estinien recalls what his loss was like a fresh wound—the anger throbbing in his chest, sobbing his voice raw for days, not eating or sleeping. He wouldn’t speak to Alberic at first, either. It feels so childish to him now. But looking at her… those feelings echo in his chest, and he is sharply reminded that grief doesn’t shrink.
He shoots her a courtesy smile as he starts the coffeemaker and CD player.
“Sorry about the shitty music,” he says as the sound of softly plucked strings fills the space. When he looks over, she’s staring at the floor again, eyes wide—that awkward “what the fuck” face—and his stomach flips. He said something wrong.
Cool.
He takes his seat across from her, trying to bury the urge to wait on the bench just outside the room when his chair squeaks. Great. He takes a deep breath and rolls his eyes. To deal or not to deal? He is, unfortunately, too big for the noise to keep from happening and he can’t be annoyed for the next two hours. What does he care if she thinks he looks crazy?
He stands up and jostles the next chair, which is better but not great. He tries the next. Even worse.
“What are you doing?”
The rasp of her voice is so quiet that he doesn’t fully catch the words.
He looks up from the red plastic in his hand. “What?”
She looks like she wishes she’d not asked at all, rubbing a hand anxiously over her arm. She sighs. “With the chairs. What are you doing with the chairs?”
“Trying to find one that doesn’t squeak. I usually—”
“I took that one.” She glances up at him, grimacing, but there’s a light in her eyes. It’s the least miserable he’s seen her so far. She thinks this is funny. “Sorry. You can have it back.”
He puts a hand up when she stands. He’s not taking the chair from the sad girl. “Uh… no. No, you can take it. There’s probably another one that isn’t annoying as fuck, I’ll find it.”
“Then let me help you. It’s only fair, since I disturbed your whole—” she gestures slowly around the meeting room— “process.” God, her voice is in shreds.
He can’t say no when this is the first sign of life she’s shown in over a month, at least here. He nods. “Sure, if you want.”
They go through the chairs in the circle, then the others neatly stacked in the corner. They don’t really talk, besides simple directions: “I tried that one already,” and “will you pass me another,” and “holy shit, that’s the worst one yet.” Estinien is keenly aware of her shifting around him, slowly at first, and then with less hesitation. Finally, they find a chair that doesn’t creak when he sits or moves. It goes in his spot and they clean up the rest.
“Hey,” Io says, and the word is conspiratorial. She catches his gaze, and something about hers makes him feel like glass, like they almost know each other. Like he’s seen her before, a blurry smile littering the backgrounds of photos in the album he managed to salvage, only viewed in profile or half out of frame, obscured by the barely remembered vacation or birthday party in the foreground. He swallows as she reaches into her bag and pulls out a black marker. “Should we make sure we never lose these again?”
“Vandalism? In our therapy group?” He squints, shoving down the fondness she’s conjured in just a few minutes. “Do you even need to ask?”
She laughs, or tries to. It comes out weak and cracked as she crosses to his side of the circle and kneels beside him. She pops the cap off the marker. “It’s Estinien, right?”
He nods, “Yeah.”
“I’m Io. The other total wipeout”—she air quotes Leo’s label—“but you already knew that.” She scribbles a small “E” on the side of the chair then heads back over to her own, where she writes an “I.”
It’s almost time for group to start.
“Are you gonna talk about it today?” Estinien asks. It’s just them sitting directly across from one another, surrounded by empty chairs.
Io shrugs, and her body seems to fold in on itself. Making herself small again. “I don’t know. It’s hard to talk about it at all. I’ll try?”
“You don’t have to. But it does help, in a weird way.”
The others drift in at the usual leisurely pace, Miounne claps, and they begin.
First question: “How are you feeling today?”
They go in a circle starting at Miounne’s left. Some answers are simple, like Leo’s.
“Pretty good. I started planning a trip for fall break, somewhere I think Mom would’ve liked to see. I’m looking forward to telling you guys about the trouble I got into when I’m back.”
Sometimes there’s a follow-up, sometimes Miounne will let it hang. Estinien has no idea how she gauges that, but it feels right.
He’s third to answer.
How does he feel today? He picks at the frayed edge of a hole in his jeans.
“I’m kind of anxious today. I declared my major this year so everything feels… more real, I guess. I’m trying to study for a couple of tests next week but I read the page and it may as well be blank. Nothing sticks. I keep worrying I might…” He pauses. This is normally when he’d look out the window; when something heavy rises to the surface, it’s easier to look outside, but for five weeks, Io has been sitting in front of him. The broken habit means he shares less. But how can he encourage her if he can’t bend a little himself?
He looks up, and there she is—dark, curious, and strangely calming, her eyes burn a hole right through him. Behind her, the trees in the courtyard are starting to take on shades of autumn, gold and bronze intensified by the sunlight filtering through the leaves. It’s a view he can deal with. Io gives him an almost imperceptible nod.
“I worry I might let them down. It feels stupid to say out loud,” he laughs with a short snorted breath. “It’s always in the back of my mind though: what would they think of me now? What does this action mean to them? I guess it doesn’t mean anything and I should just study for the damn test so I can actually be someone they’d be proud of. Anyway… yeah, I’m anxious today.”
Miounne reclines a little in her seat. “Have you tried anything to help you study, to shift that focus on what your family would think towards something more current?”
He nods, looking from Io to Miounne. “Yeah, uh, I’ve asked a friend to join me. We’re going to try that today. He’s been pretty supportive since learning about all of this, and his grades are better than mine anyway. And I try to think about Alberic, my former guardian, I guess. I think he’d be proud of me no matter how I end up, so that helps.”
“Excellent,” she says, looking around at the others before spelling out the lesson. “Leaning on others is a great way to remind ourselves how loved and valued we are, especially when lower moods may make you want to isolate. Re-establishing bonds of friendship, or building new ones, helps bring your focus to just how strong your current support system is, or where it’s lacking. I think you’re doing that beautifully, Estinien. Thank you.”
He exhales, shying away from the praise and returning his focus to his frayed hem. Maybe that’s enough sharing for this week.
They keep going. Io is second to last, and though everyone expects silence by now, Miounne asks anyway.
“How are you feeling today, Io? Anything you want to share?”
He looks up again—will she actually say something today?—and she’s focused on him now. The room is empty again, except for the two of them in the empty circle. Fresh sharpie smell rising from their initials on the chairs.
“Hey,” she says, raising her hand in a little wave. “Sorry for being weird. I’m trying.”
“No such thing as weird in this room,” Miounne offers.
Io doesn’t look away from Estinien. She brushes a stray lock of hair from her eyes, and the tiniest hint of a smile pulls at the corners of her lips.
“I’m feeling okay today. As okay as I think I can feel right now, anyway. I cleaned my apartment this morning. And I’ve been working really hard on a piece for my school’s symphony showcase before fall break. I even invited some friends I haven’t talked to in… too long.”
“That’s wonderful, Io!” Miounne leans forward, elbows on her knees. “I read you major in music at RSU? What do you play?”
Her eyes fall to her lap. “Pedal harp. Mostly classical, but sometimes I make arrangements of new music, for fun.”
Shit.
“Thank you for sharing today, Io. We appreciate the opportunity to get to know you.” Miounne moves on, and so does everyone else.
But Estinien is stuck on this one thing. His stomach ties itself in a knot. Without knowing, he insulted her, and then she helped him with the stupid chairs… And it doesn’t even matter, because she doesn’t know him. They don’t go to the same university, and the only things they have in common are their dead families and the two hours a week they spend in this room. He has no notions of being friends with her, and definitely nothing like what Leofard has in mind. Still, he can’t stop it gnawing at him.
The session wraps and he approaches Io before she leaves.
“Io?”
She turns to him, for once standing at her full height, and they’re almost eye to eye. The almost-smile is back, and that gnaws at him too. “Hey, thanks for the nudge earlier. You were right.”
“Yeah, well,” He fidgets with his keys. “I’m sorry for calling the music shitty. I didn’t know harp was, like, a thing for you.”
Her laugh is stronger than before. “Wait, are you serious? You had no way to know that, and I’m not the music police. You don’t have to like it.”
He shrugs. “Still not a cool thing to say. I mean, I only really know it from this place anyway.”
“Would you… want to come to my concert?” She asks slowly, then shakes her head. “That might be dumb. That’s all the way across town and we basically just met. I—”
A strand of hair falls into her eyes and his fingers twitch as she tucks it in with the rest. She’s still rambling when the words rush out of him before he considers them.
“Yeah, I’ll come.”
“—Oh.” Wide, surprised eyes blink up at him. “Okay, great! You can bring a friend, or a date, or whatever. I’ll bring tickets for you next week?”
Estinien pockets his keys. “Sure. I’ll see you then.” Despite his clumsy apology to someone who may as well be a stranger, as Io leaves, he feels the same wave of nostalgia from earlier. Some things are true no matter how you fight them.
Estinien enters his dorm with two tickets in hand. Keys in the bowl by the door, backpack under his desk, shoes in the closet. He falls onto his bed with a little bounce, holding the shiny slips of paper up to the light.
“What took you so long?” Aymeric asks from his bed on the other side of the room. He’s reclined on a few pillows, and it looks like he’s alternating between two books. “I’m starving.”
Estinien shrugs. “Got caught up talking to someone after the session. She invited me to her concert in a couple of weeks. Wanna go?” He holds the tickets out for Aymeric’s inspection.
He looks them over, brows raising in slight surprise. “You actually want to go to this?”
“I don’t know, but I said I would.” Estinien sits up. “It can’t be that bad, can it?”
“Is she cute, whoever she is?” Aymeric lazily passes the tickets across the canyon between their beds. “Can’t see why you’d want to go otherwise. I mean, I definitely want to go, it sounds kind of fancy, but you… Hmm.”
“Shut up,” he laughs. There are other reasons, but the most important is making amends for being a dick, even by accident. “Her name is Io. She’s nice, seems cool now that she talks. She’s new to the group.”
“We can go, but you didn’t answer the question.”
“Look, it’s nothing like that. She even said I could bring a date.” Estinien places the tickets in his nightstand drawer, regretting the decision to ask for company.
Aymeric shakes his head and returns to his reading. “You poor, sad muppet. Order a pizza already.”
They stand outside the theater in their untucked button-downs over jeans. Estinien hasn’t been on this campus before, but Aymeric has; thanks to an on-again-off-again thing with some miqo’te guy who goes here, they were able to find the place quickly.
“Are we meeting her before the show?” Ayms asks, scanning the crowd. He’s been eager to learn more about Io in the days leading up to this.
“Nah, she’s backstage, but said I could text her after. It’ll be quick. She has other friends coming, so I’ll just say hi.” It sounds simple enough, but anxiety prickles across his chest.
Inside, they find their seats in the front row of the balcony—a surprisingly nice view.
“Not bad,” Aymeric admires the architecture, comparing things to this venue to the one on their campus, but Estinien hasn’t been in that one either. He only catches half of what’s said, eyes focused on the stage. Aymeric nudges him with an elbow. “She’s the harpist, right?”
He nods. “Yeah, she has a solo at some point.” He rubs his hands on his jeans, sitting forward in the seat a little as the lights go down and the musicians file onto the stage.
“Relax,” Aymeric whispers. “You might enjoy it if you chill out. Look, there she is.”
He points through the dark as she approaches the harp in the back center, almost directly in front of him, and he’s reminded of how they sit during Haven. She’s wearing long black boots and a short dress of the same color, with loose sleeves he can see through. Her hair is down tonight, but pulled back from her face. She’s pretty, even from here.
“Whoa.” Aymeric sits forward too. “You couldn’t just say she’s cute, could you?”
“I told you, it’s not like that. She just lost her fami—”
“SHH!”
Aymeric’s smile is infuriating, cradling his chin in his hand. Estinien shoots him a dark look, then passes a hand over his face as anxiety twists into hot embarrassment, thankful for the darkness as the music starts.
And it’s the music he can’t look away from. There’s more movement in it than he expected, a rawness the CDs or digital streams just don’t portray. Everyone is working to build part of a whole, and each of them can be heard in the larger sound.
Then there is Io.
Admittedly, his experience is limited, but he’s never seen her like this. Every motion is fluid, yet deliberate, even while supporting such a heavy-looking instrument. She is focused, on her hands, on the sheet music in front of her, on the others playing around her. And she looks… serene. Happy.
The tempo slows during the fourth song and a godlight falls on her, a little spot of brightness that eclipses all else. Her solo. Estinien holds his breath.
She builds suspense with sound, then her hands move faster than he can make sense of. Sometimes she places a hand flat against the strings to still them, and that is what hollows out his chest. The elegant control in what he thought was so simple. This is nothing like the CD in their support group. He could listen to this forever.
The rest of the orchestra gradually rises around her until the lights on them lift once more. He might be disappointed if the whole thing didn’t work so well. They bring the song to a close, then stand to take their bows while the audience applauds.
Estinien pulls out his phone. He’s supposed to text her, but how does he follow that? Aymeric hovers over his shoulder, watching him type and delete the same sentence three times.
“What do I say?”
Aymeric rests his chin on Estinien’s shoulder, loudly um-ing and ah-ing, and he almost regrets asking. “How about this: ‘Loved the show. I’m still around if you want to meet up.’ Simple, right? And contextually open-ended, in the unlikely case you get a grip.”
He rolls his eyes but types and sends it while she’s still on stage. It’s several minutes after the musicians exit the stage that he gets a reply: “I’m so glad you came! Take the exit to the left and the door immediately to the right, and tell the attendant you’re with me, see you soon!”
They follow the instructions to a cramped backstage area. People are carrying flowers. Should he have brought flowers? Too late now.
They wander the crowd aimlessly, and his anxiety creeps in with each passing second. There’s a touch at his elbow, light but guiding.
“Estinien,” Io’s voice. Her quiet rasp is familiar to him now, and she sounds far more healthy than when she first spoke to him. He turns to her, and she beams. “Thank you for coming!”
He isn’t sure what to do, and he has no token of congratulations to give her. “Thanks for inviting me. Inviting us, I guess.”
“Us?” Io looks over his shoulder, where Aymeric is practically buzzing as he waits to be introduced.
Ayms extends a hand, “Io, it’s wonderful to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you—”
“He asked constantly. I didn’t want to tell him anything—”
“—and it’s nice being able to put a beautiful face to a beautiful name.”
Estinien covers his face with his hands. “A merciful god would’ve killed me by now.”
Io accepts the handshake, “And you are?”
“Aymeric. Estinien’s roommate and, because he won’t say it out loud, his best friend.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Aymeric. I’m glad you guys came; I know it’s a big ask and it’s not everyone’s taste but—”
“It was amazing,” Estinien’s mouth moves before his mind catches up, something that seems to be common in her presence. Io and Aymeric stare at him, brows lifting in unison. Her neck has flushed red. “I just… didn’t know what to expect, but it was impressive.”
Io’s half-smile, the one he’s learning she wears when she’s nervous, lifts the corner of her lips. “Thank you. I wasn’t trying to change your life or anything. I just thought it’d be cool to show you what I do, and maybe get to know you better too. You know, the “bonds” Miounne is always talking about.”
“Io!” A group of people call out from several feet behind them, waving her over.
She waves to them, then turns to him with an apologetic smile. “Sorry, those are my friends. I’ll be right back.” He watches as she walks away and they sweep her into a noisy group hug.
“Dude,” Aymeric whispers, “Should I go? Do you want me to go?”
“Go where?”
“Go! Home!”
Estinien glances back at Io, and her friends are definitely looking over at them. “And leave me with them?”
Ayms grimaces, balling his hands into fists. “With her!”
Estinien shakes his head. “No, just give me a second and we can both go.” Aymeric silently fakes a scream.
Io returns, wringing her hands as she says, “We’re going to grab some dinner from a place nearby; you guys are welcome to join us.”
He hesitates. Maybe Aymeric is right and he should stay, or maybe assuming someone working through her grief wants anything more than a friendship with him is not in either of their best interests. “We should probably get back. We’ve both got to pack before break starts.”
Io’s expression dampens. “Oh, okay. Well, thanks again for coming out. I’ll see you at Haven in a couple of weeks?”
“Yeah.” He nods. “See you there.”
Estinien turns on the light and adjusts the dimmer. It’s been a while since he’s been first, but Io shows up right after him.
“Hey,” she says quietly, heading to the CD player while he starts the coffee maker. The ritual is no longer just his.
“Hi.” He’s rummaging through the cabinet beneath the coffee station, gathering the supplies, when she starts the music. It’s not their usual instrumental album… “This is from your concert?”
She starts on the chairs. “I hope it’s okay. I emailed Miounne when I got the recording to ask if I could bring it in, to show everyone what I’ve been working on and that I’m kind of normal outside of all this. But I can switch it back, if you’d rather keep the routine.”
His eyes fall closed and he is back in the theater, watching her play in a beam of light, arms unfurling around the strings like flightless wings and he doesn’t think “normal” is a good description of her at all.
“Estinien?”
He opens his eyes.
“No, this is fine.” He stands and arranges the little coffee bar. “I meant it. I thought it was great.”
“That’s a relief,” she laughs a little. “I mean, I believed you, but…”
He frees the rest of the chairs from their neat stack. Their initials are on the last two. He passes her the “I.”
“But what?”
Io crosses her arms behind her chair, bites her lip. The early evening sun illuminates the courtyard, and as it streams through the window little specks of its light catch in her hair. “I don’t know, I always feel nervous trying to make friends.”
Ah.
It’s like he thought. He can tell Aymeric once and for all there’s nothing else going on here. Which is fine, of course. It’s fine. He wants to learn more about her, and let her get to know him too. He doesn’t have a ton, but he thinks he’s a decent friend. He could be a good friend to Io.
“Yeah,” he says, ignoring the heavy, unnameable thing settling in his stomach. “Me too. But it kind of feels like we’re already friends, right? So don’t worry about it too much.”
Io’s smile pokes through her bitten lip as she takes her seat across from him, the sun at her back. “Yeah, I guess we are.”
She is still smiling when everyone joins them, when the session begins, when Miounne asks how she’s feeling today, and when she bids him goodbye with the promise to text him this week. He knows because he can’t help but look at her.
Some things are true no matter how you fight them.

PART NINE
"Okay, just sign your name here, and she'll come to get you when she's ready." The cheery girl at the front desk told you.
You offered her a polite smile, walking over to the sit in the waiting room.
You always disliked these chairs. We were willing to bet money that these chairs have sat in this very room since your university first opened, worn out, uncomfortable, and outdated. Sure, maybe you had been in a bit of a sour mood lately – what with your fake ex-boyfriend dirty dicking you and all – but as you sat there, metal rod poking your spin, you couldn't help but frown.
As you sat there contemplating your school's renovation budget, you hardly noticed the sound of another student walking in and over to the front desk, your stomach churning as you put a face to those loose curls.
"Hey, stranger! What are you doing here?" Kiri's white teeth blinded you, walking over to you once her business with the receptionist was done.
You could feel one of your eyebrows twitch in irritation, swallowing down your scoff as she sat next to you.
"Trying to schedule my class next semester." You responded uninterestedly, contemplating whether or not the suspension from decking Kiri in the face would be worth it.
"Oh, just picking up a termination form. One of our newbies wants to pull out of Kappa Alpha Tau."
Shocker...
"Hey, so sorry to hear things with Jungkook and you didn't work out, by the way." Kiri flashed you a sympathetic look.
An audible breath left your lips, disbelief no doubt visible on your every feature. Did Kiri seriously think you didn't know it was her who home wrecked? Or was she just that much of a raging bitch?
"If you ever need someone to, like, talk to, just know that I'm here. I totally know what you're going through."
Your hands found themselves curling into tight balls in an attempt to keep your hands from shaking. Kiri looked as cool as a cucumber in front of you, perfectly composed, not a single hair out of place.
Then it hit you.
Of course. It all made perfect sense now.
From the moment she came up to you at your event offering her condolences, she had been trying to drive you off from Jungkook. She was planting seeds of doubt about their break up and his character. Manipulation and intimidation were her cards, and she played them well.
Fine. If the rules were being bent, you might as well disregard them altogether. You relaxed your hands.
"Oh, no worries. It's all good, I mean, it's not like we were actually dating." You shrugged.
Rule #2: No one can know the truth.
"What?" Kiri blinked, her smile faltering for just a moment.
You edged closer to her, cocking your head in mock surprise.
"Oh... did you not know that? That our entire relationship was contractual?"
"What are you talking about?" Her full brows furrowing.
You let out a sigh, "Yeah, so, basically, Jungkook would get his frat to fund my event if I helped make you jealous so that you'd come crawling back to him."
The polite mask that Kiri had plastered on finally cracked, her next words clipped and curt.
"What the hell is your damage, Y/N? Do you think I'm some sort of idiot how'd fall for that?"
"Good grief, did Jungkook not tell you? Weird, I feel like that's something he'd need to tell his girlfriend." You puffed out your bottom lip in mock sympathy.
Whatever resolve Kiri had built up crumbled at the way you held her stare, a note of honesty in your voice that she couldn't shake.
"I'm..." She cleared her throat, turning her nose up. "We're not actually back together yet."
"No? Really? Hmm..."
The call of your name crossed the room, and the two of you turned to look at the receptionist, ushering you over with the news that your counselor was ready for you.
You turned to Kiri with a smile, "Guess he didn't want you back as so much as he just wanted back in your pants."
Kiri looked utterly stunned, eyes wide as you stood from your seat, for once, without a clue as to what to say.
"See ya around, Kiri. Let's do lunch sometime. Oh and, happy holidays!" You fluttered your fingers at her, slipping away from her with a smugness you couldn't be assed to hide.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
"Wait... he called you?!" Taehyung laughed, eyes wide.
Yara nodded, scouring through the shelves, a specific book in mind. Belinda Carlisle was playing softly overhead and Yara found herself humming along.
As the holidays rolled around and everyone found themselves back in their hometowns, Yara was surprised to find Jungkook's frat brother browsing through the jam aisle in her local supermarket. As luck would have it, Jungkook's genetically blessed frat brother was from her hometown, the two somehow never crossing paths until now.
What started as a polite catchup over coffee, quickly turned into an everyday thing, the two of them realizing they had more in common than friend drama.
"He did!" Yara enthused. "He left a voicemail apologizing and rambled about how he wanted Y/N's address so he could go apologize, blah, blah, blah."
"That idiot." Taehyung rolled his eyes. He watched as she let out a noise of excitement, looking over her shoulder to announce that she had found the book she was in search of. He grinned in response.
"Anyway, I didn't call back. Because that's exactly how she wants to spend Christmas morning, with that jockstrap knocking at her door, right?"
Taehyung snorted, bringing the straw of his drink to his mouth.
"Miriam is gonna have your head on a stick Lord of the Flies style if she catches you with that drink in her library." Yara warned, to which Taehyung dismissed with a wave of a hand.
Yara was a funny girl; he was pleasantly surprised to bump into her during winter break. He could tell something was off when they first ran into each other, so he invited her out to grab some coffee. It was over a warm cup of coffee – with the most absurd amount of sugar he had ever seen – that she finally shared with him all that had been weighing on her mind lately.
Sure there was the Jungkook and Y/N stuff. Yara was beyond homicidal. Taehyung was grateful for winter break as he was positive she would have rung out Jungkook's neck had she seen him after what had happened. Taehyung himself was astounded to find out what exactly was true nature of the two's relationship, curtesy of Yara, of course. Even if it was fake, however, he knew Jungkook enough to know that the happiness he gave off once Y/N entered his life wasn't.
But more than that, the petite girl was worried about a boy, an irritating one who Taehyung happened to be frat brothers with. Eunwoo had approached her immediately after Kiri left him, spewing some excuse about only dating Kiri because he couldn't get Yara out of his mind.
It was bullshit if you asked Taehyung. But he hadn't the heart to tell Yara that, especially with the way she looked so torn up about it – unsure of how to respond to Eunwoo. He wasn't entirely sure what their relationship was like, but he figured it must have meant enough to her to have her feeling this conflicted.
So he did his best to cheer her up, inviting her for lunch and driving her to their local library, which he had come to find out was her favorite place growing up. They spent many afternoons sprawled out on the couches in the now abandoned children's section of the library... or at least until the crabby librarian yelled at them to leave.
If Taehyung was honest, he didn't care much for literature – he was a math guy – but the way Yara would shove a book into his chest with wide eyes and an 'if you don't read this and tell me your thoughts on it, I'll literally die,' seemed reason enough to keep showing up day after day.
"Have you talked to her about Eunwoo, yet?"
Yara flinched at the blond man's words.
"Why don't we ever talk about normal people stuff? Like the weather, or what sports team played last night."
"Yara..."
"Oooh!" She exclaimed suddenly, "I know, let's talk about President Reagan. Did you hear his speech about tearing down the wall in Germany? Crazy stuff–"
"Dude, why are you so scared to tell her about Eunwoo? You told me." Taehyung interrupted, quirking up a brow. Yara held his eyes for a moment before sighing.
"I just don't want to bring it up to Y/N, you know? She has enough going on..."
"So? She's your best friend. She'll want to help."
"Exactly! She's going to want to comfort me and make me feel better – which will just make me feel worse." Yara groaned, leaning back against the bookshelf.
"I'm... not following." The frat boy admitted.
Surely girls aren't usually this hard to understand.
"Look, I know you'd only known me for a little while, but let me pencil you in. I have a reputation, okay? Yara doesn't get hung up on some dumb boy." Yara wagged her finger at him.
"Does Yara usually talk about herself in the third person?" Taehyung chuckled.
"Yara," she continued, paying the boy no mind, "is an independent woman who likes one night stands and sex without strings. She doesn't like clingy boys getting into her head and confusing her."
Taehyung nodded, "So basically, Yara is scared of catching feelings."
"Shh! Don't tell Yara about what Yara doesn't want to hear." She turned her nose up at him, pushing herself back off the stand to march away from him. Taehyung reached for her arm without hesitation, stopping her departure with a sigh.
"Look, I don't mean to be on your ass about this, but clearly, you feel something for this kid. Otherwise, you wouldn't be spending all your time pining over him."
Taehyung immediately wished he could take back those words as an offended look fell across the petite girl's face, her hands falling onto her hips, clearly displeased.
"Pining? You think I'm pining over Eunwoo?"
Taehyung shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to navigate this situation. As much as he liked Yara, she did spark a healthy dose of fear into him.
"Well... I mean... you're spending your whole break with me just because I can give you a ride to the library so you can read sad romance novels and cry."
"First of all," Yara began, "I happen to enjoy your company. You're a good listener and, frankly, very nice to look at."
Surprise fell over Taehyung, "Nice to look at?"
"Oh, don't act like you don't know." She waved him off, "Secondly, I've never cried. I've let out a sniffle at most."
"Fine, so you're not pining over him. Just get back together with him." He responded.
"I can't."
Taehyung frowned, "Then turn him down."
"I can't do that either." She frowned right back.
"Dude."
"I'm scared, okay!" She whined, thumping a foot against the library's carpeted floor.
"Of what? What's holding you back from going back to Eunwoo?"
"...He told me he loves me."
"And?"
"And I don't even know what that means!" Yara threw her hands up in exasperation, the sleeve of her swear falling down her forearms. "I don't know how to love him back or be a good girlfriend – which I know is what he wants from me."
"Yara, I hope you don't feel like you don't owe Eunwoo anything. Because you don't." Taehyung grew serious, which only caused the torn girl to pout.
"I know, I just... I mean, I don't hate him. But it's scary. Whenever I'm dating someone, I get all up in my head like... Am I supposed to be this someone's person? Possibly forever? What the fuck!"
"No, I get it. It's a lot of pressure." He shrugged powerlessly.
"Exactly! I don't want to have to try and love someone. I want to do it. Like... not to sound like a sappy idiot but sometimes I think about all those stories I read," she gestured towards the books beside her, "about feeling a spark when you kiss your person and just... I dunno. Would be fucking nice, instead of this complicated bullshit."
Yara was far from a hopeless romantic. As much as she loved to read about romance, she had an innate urge to flee the moment the word love came around. Still, she could appreciate the idea of it.
"So then forget about that stuff. Forget about labels and expectations. Just be with whoever you want to be with. Have fun, worry about the heavy shit later."
Taehyung had a very soothing effect whenever he spoke. His tone was low and lovely, and despite the way Yara's head was still running a mile a minute, she appreciated the boy's docile nature. Certainly made her feel a whole lot less anxious.
"I want to. That's how this whole thing with Eunwoo started, ya know?" She admitted, crossing her arms over her chest. "But all men are the same. They say they're fine with keeping it casual, but they always end up falling for me, which, duh, understandable..."
The blond boy let out an airy snicker, a direct challenge to Yara's words.
"Something funny, Tae?" She pressed.
"C'mon, that's not true." He rolled his eyes breezily.
"Oh, yeah? Tell that to my four ex-partners who are all still in love with me."
"Maybe you just haven't met the one. You know... your knight-in-no-strings-attached-armor."
"I'm telling you, no such guy exists." Yara emphasized with a poke into Taehyung chest.
He grabbed the jabby finger reflexively, his long fingers wrapping around the small digit, setting his drink on the nearest shelf.
"Yara."
"Seriously, I've done my research! You're looking at a hot commodity, buddy. I may be a raging homebody, but I am very efficient—"
Suddenly, the petite was trapped against the bookshelf with Taehyung hovering over her, a large hand on either side of her head.
"Please stop talking."
Yara's cheeks flushed in surprise as she met the handsome boy's warm eyes, growing even hotter as he leaned over and pressed his mouth against hers.
He smelled distinctly of vanilla, and it sent her stomach fluttering, reeling in the way he gripped her waist, pulling him into her. She would've lost herself in the feeling of his soft lips moving against hers if it weren't for a cough ringing out from somewhere in the library.
Yara broke the kiss short, ears red as she brought her hands to wrap around her torso defensively, trying her hardest to ignore the way her heart was pounding against her chest as if trying to escape.
"You kissed me!" She scoffed, trying her hardest to seem unaffected. Taehyung shrugged.
"You kissed me back."
Oh god, this was bad. She felt all light and giddy tucked away in this corner of the library, the gorgeous tall man still close in proximity, looking at her through a smirk.
"Yes, well... I'm a very go with the flow kind of gal." She defended, brows furrowed adorably.
"Relax, Yara."
"Well, what the hell was that precisely?! Do you just make out with all your library buddies? Is there some sort of library buddy étiquette I'm not aware of?"
"I kissed you because I wanted to. Kissing is fun." He shrugged. "Some guys just want that, you know."
Son of a bitch.
"You got balls, Goldilocks. Understood. Message received, loud and clear." Yara acknowledged through narrowed eyes.
"Happy I could help, bookworm."
A corner of her mouth turned upwards, admittedly amused.
"Just so we're on the same page... you're not in love with me? You just smooched me for fun?" She looked at him skeptically.
"Sorry you had to find out this way." Taehyung joked, earning him an eye roll.
"And you don't have some ex-lover you need to make jealous?"
At those words, the frat boy laughed heartily, head shaking a firm no.
"Wicked."
Yara hopped onto the balls of her feet, hoping to catch the blond's kiss once more when her mouth met the hardcover of a book instead. She sank back down with an annoyed huff; Taehyung had pulled a book from the nearest self in reach, holding it up between them to pause the eager girl's ministrations.
Poking his head out from behind the book cheekily, he flashed her a lopsided grin.
"Easy there, tiger. What about Eunwoo?"
Yara held his eyes for a moment, wondering how she hadn't noticed what a pretty brown they were until now. She let out an appreciative hum.
"What about him?" She raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smirk on her lips that had Taehyung leaning back over to meet it with one of his own.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
"Thanks for agreeing to meet with me." You greeted him with a cautious smile as he slipped into the chair across from you.
You were nervous, to say the least, watching the tall man shift in his seat, trying to grow comfortable despite the uncomfortable circumstances.
"This place is disorienting." Erik scanned the mall cafeteria before flashing you a charming smile. "Thought you'd get tired of waiting and head back home. I apologize for my tardiness."
"No worries. I still don't know my way around at the mall, and I've been home for weeks." You grinned back.
A pleasant beat of silence passed between the two ex-lovers, each taking a moment to consider the other. Erik looked a lot older than he did in high school; he had on a brand new pair of glasses that suited him far better than the ones you remembered did. His hair was combed and styled smartly so that they would stay out of his eyes. A stark contrast from the long-haired boy you had come to know these past few months.
Dammit. Your eyes fell onto the red table between you two, cheeks growing warm as you realized your thoughts had drifted back to Jungkook, even with your ex-fiance sitting across from you.
Erik's voice rang out, "I'll be honest. I wasn't expecting you to call me."
"I wasn't expecting me to either." You confessed, your hands intertwining on the tabletop.
Really, you didn't have much reason to be nervous. I mean, it was Erik. Despite the end of your relationship, there was no bad blood between you two. It wasn't the first time seeing him since the breakup either... maybe it was why you had called him that had you so on edge.
You weren't sure exactly what you wanted from Erik. Company? A distraction? Maybe what you were asking of him was unfair, but as he placed a hand over yours reassuringly, you found the wall you had set up crumbling down.
"I can help you, but you need to talk to me, Y/N. If I could read minds, I would be a much richer man." His brown eyes rolled dramatically.
You chuckled. Same dry wit you remembered.
"I met someone."
"Is that what you wanted to tell me? Y/N, you're allowed to date other people. I understand your hesitation, but really, it is time you moved on–"
You let out a scoff, yanking your hand away from the now laughing man. You flashed him a feigned look of irritation, silently grateful for the change of pace in conversation, finding it much easier to talk when things weren't so tense.
"God, you are still just as full of yourself as I remembered." You teased.
Erik shrugged, "Not to sound like a cocky asshole, but is it not warranted?"
You let that question run through your mind. You suppose if anyone had reason to have a big head, it would be Erik. Intelligent, handsome, hard-working– everything a mother would want their daughter to have.
"It is. You've always been perfect..." You mused, a hint of sadness in your tone that Erik picked up quickly.
And all at once, his entire demeanor changed, a serious expression settling behind those frames of his.
"Tell me about him." He instructed calmly.
And so you did— the beginning, the end, and all the beautiful bits in between. You told him about a boy that challenged you in ways you never imagined– a boy who made you feel like the sun. You spoke of every stupid conversation you once thought of as meaningless but now weighed heavily on your heart and mind.
You were mad at him, of course. There was a reason you had been ignoring his calls and ordered Yara to keep him in the dark of your whereabouts, after all. But the more you talked about him, the more you lit up. Erik noticed it too. How could he not? It was that very way you spoke with an uncontainable passion that made him fall in love with you in the first place.
He watched with utmost concentration for the vocal inflections of your words, the slight movement of your brows that always seemed to speak your mind before you did.
It was clear to him that this boy wasn't just a boy. He could hear in the choice of words you used, words that were static and void of variables. But there were certain words you seemed to dance around he realized as you came to the end of the story... words that were evident to all but you.
"So... Analysis?" You breathed out, chest deflating as you took in Erik's frown.
"Above all... did you find out if he used protection? I don't want to presume anything about... was her name Kiri?" Erik paused, continuing once you nodded back at him, "but your health should be your number one concern."
"I had a friend of his ask him on my behalf. He says he used protection... I went ahead and got tested anyway, though, and I'm all good thankfully." You told him.
Whether or not Jungkook had passed along some sort of STI was heavy on your mind the next morning after you kicked him out. Thankfully, Taehyung was more than happy to get the answer you need but were still too damn pissed off to seek out yourself.
"Good." Erik sunk back into his seat, a hand coming up to run through his hair as he considered his next words. You suppose you were grateful to be able to talk to Erik like this still. Sure, he was blunt and sometimes stared at you like you were some case-study, but he didn't bat an eye of judgment at the news of the contract, for which you were grateful. He had known you for too long to find it peculiar that you'd pretend to be someone's girlfriend in exchange for furthering and fulfilling your passion project.
If anything, that was precisely in line with your character. He liked to think he instilled some of those traits into you.
"Well, frankly, I am sorry to hear this happened to you. You're a great girl; you deserve better than that."
Your neck warmed at Erik's words, slightly taken aback.
"Oh, um... thanks, that means a lot coming from you." You expressed your gratitude shyly.
Erik nodded back at you, "Seriously. It was very shitty of him to string you along for so long and for sleeping with Kiri despite knowing how you felt."
"Oh."
"Oh?" He frowned, not expecting your response.
You shifted in your seat uncomfortably, pausing to watch a woman with a stroller walk past your table.
"Well..." you cleared your throat, "I'm not actually sure that he knows that I, um, like him... like that."
God, this was mortifying. The first time you had admitted you liked Jungkook and it was to your ex-fiancé? Sometimes you swear you were the protagonist in a mediocre rom-com film and no one was telling you.
Erik paused, "I see. And does he know now?"
"...No."
"I see." He sat up, fingers tapping against the table in interest. He quirked up a brow at you. "Perhaps it wasn't just him who was dishonest."
You scrunched your nose at him, not liking what you were hearing. It wasn't anything that hadn't already kept you up, tossing and turning in bed at 2 AM, of course. You had a feeling this was where this conversation would lead to. Erik, as genius as he was, was fairly predictable in this sense. Rational, dependable... nothing like the spontaneous boy you had fallen for.
"So? Even if he knew, what would that change? He slept with her..." You grumbled stubbornly.
"And maybe he wouldn't have if he had known."
You crossed your arms, "You don't know that."
"You're right. I don't. I don't even know the guy. But you do." He continued, offering you a suggestive look.
Huh. Did you think that would have stopped Jungkook? And even so, would that fact alone be enough to get you to forgive him?
"I... I don't know." Was your conclusion, pulling a hum from Erik.
"Guess the only way to know would be to discuss it with the meathead himself."
"I just... I don't want to get my heart broken again. I, quite literally, didn't sign up for this." You placed your face into your hands, hating how rational Erik had to be.
"My guess? He didn't either. It seems as if you both got more than you bargained for." He shrugged.
"He's definitely not at all what I was expecting..." You trailed off glumly.
When you first met Jungkook, he was obnoxious, cocksure, and grotesquely unbothered. You swore you had never hated anyone more on the first meet. But as you came to know him, you found in him a lot of what you wished you found in yourself. Approachable, flexible, spontaneous...
You just wished it all didn't have to hurt so bad.
"You and I are a lot alike, you know." Erik spoke up once he noticed you fall silent. " And I only realized this recently, but I think that was our downfall. When I asked you to marry me, what I was asking of you... Well, it was unfair. Because I know I would never accept that if I were in your shoes."
Your head shot up at his words, hands quick to wave at him dismissively. Asking him to meet you here was not to discuss what had gone wrong in your relationship, and you didn't want him to think that it was.
"Erik, that's okay you don't have to—"
"No, no, what I mean is... we made perfect sense together and it didn't work out in the end. This meathead of yours is nothing like you and maybe it's for the better. You said it yourself that he makes you feel important and formidable." He pressed on.
"Are you trying to imply the notion of opposites attract? Because I personally believe that's a myth and that we're drawn to those similar to us—"
"Puzzle pieces."
"Wha— Huh?" You blinked, blind-sighted by the calm man's sudden words.
Suddenly, Erik readjusted in his seat, leaning in close as he nodded his head.
"Think of life as one big puzzle, and everyone you meet is shaped differently, right? Yet somehow... they fit. We find those that complete us. And they're not necessarily opposites but—"
"But different pieces in the puzzle." You sighed, understanding the metaphor.
You raised a brow at the intellectual man, "That was uncharacteristically poetic of you. I thought you were a man of science... since when do you rely on literary devices to get your point across?"
Erik let out a dramatic sigh, fingertips pressed to the rip of his glasses, leaning back into his seat as if showing his greatness.
"I'm a growing man, Y/N. Science helps you understand the mind and the body, but as far as the heart goes... there's only so much it can tell us." He tutted wisely with a wag of his pointer finger.
"Wow. I dig this character development. I quite like this new you."
"Wanna get married now?" He deadpanned suddenly, a laugh ripping out of you at his unexpected words.
Erik grinned at the familiar sound, also finding the humor within his joke. He was pleased to see that if anything, he could at least momentarily take your mind off of your heart's turmoil.
"Ask me again in another three years." You rolled your eyes, grinning wide, to which Erik threatened that if Jungkook didn't by then, then he just might.

In Other Words, Hold My Hand by Cwenphy for MBlair
Stargazing and waltzing on the lake.
Meet Me in the Meadow by Miranda13 for MeadowHayle
Ben was not the typical Alpha. Rey was not the typical Omega. Utterly indifferent to other people, only in their fantasies or dreams would they experience desire. After many years of loneliness, they meet in a support group for struggling demi-humans, and everything changes. Ben and Rey embark together on a healing journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Maybe, they don’t need to be alone, anymore. Maybe, they were never alone, to begin with.
The Rise of Ren by Ayrith for Merixcil
For the last seat in the Knights of Ren, there are two candidates. The first, a powerful scion of a great Force legacy, formally trained by the last Jedi. The second, a force sensitive urchin with no past, nurtured by the cut-throat criminal underworld. Kylo or Kira. There can only be one.
Legion by Tiara_of_Sapphires for midwinterspring
The war was over. Across the galaxy, hundreds called out in one voice: “I need a teacher.” A fic for midwinterspring for the RFFA Valentine’s Day 2020 Exchange Prompt: Rey and Ben train new Force users and fix things
All That Glitters by PalenDrome for MintyCel
The Kingdom of Exegol holds the key to Kylo's future. All he needs to do is to get past the omega guarding it.
Thaw My Frozen Heart by DarkSideOfMe for Miranda13
“A bounty hunter decides that the former Supreme Leader would make an excellent prize and manages to get the jump on Ben while he is on a mission for the Resistance, encasing him in carbonite. Rey is quick to mount a solo rescue mission and helps Ben recover from the hibernation sickness when she eventually gets him back." - Reylo-Prompts
Good Boy by rissanox for MissCoppelia
Ben adopts a dog who needs some training. Thankfully, he gets help (and a little bit more) from Rey, a dog trainer.
the world's not perfect but by aNerdObsessed for misszeldasayre
What would happen in a galaxy where the New Republic never got off the ground and the First Order choked before it started? Maybe a scavenger girl would become a foundling under the care of a Mandalorian bounty hunter. Maybe a troubled child would shake off a burdensome legacy to follow his father's less-than-lawful profession. Maybe a cocky flyboy would find himself using his charm to win gigs delivering spice for the syndicates. Maybe a mechanically-minded girl would start taking off-the-books jobs for the occasional criminal. Maybe a boy with too many questions would leave his parents to learn about this thing called the Force. Turns out the galaxy is a lawless place with every sentient for themselves.
like roses and clover by notkellymarie for mrstater
" There is no comfortable position. No matter how he laid down on his cot, his bones feel brittle, his skin itching all over with the sensation of a thousand ants crawling all over his body. His stomach swirls like a maelstrom, and he blames it on the caf he had in order to stay awake through one of his lessons. Pathetic. You can’t even sleep right. He promises to skip the caf the next day, and his consciousness floats on the surface even as he wishes to be pulled under." -- Ben Solo has never had a single good night's sleep in his life. Rey of Jakku never wanted one. The Battle of Exegol rang and wants to know if this is still the case.
It never gets easier, you just get better. by PoliticalPadmé for MyJediLife

Beside the Lake by elegygoldsmith for Ngoc12thefangirl
“Ben…” It’s half groan, half laugh, all ache — and he wants to reach out to her but he doesn’t trust himself to stop at only holding her hand. Rey’s gaze softens, and that grief she’s been feeling comes roiling out of her like a thunderstorm. It’s too much for him to take. “Tell me.” “I want kids.” She says the words so softly that he might not have known what she was saying if he hadn’t seen her lips moving and heard the syllables echoing in his mind. “Oh.” It’s stupid, but he doesn’t know what else to say. “I mean…” She fumbles again, but this time she doesn’t even bother finishing in words. I want kids now. A short, smutty one-shot in which Ben and Rey grapple with the next step in their life together.

After the events of TROS, Rey returns to Ahch-To... and a healed Ben Solo. There, she plans to consummate their relationship. Too bad she has no idea what she's doing.... Luckily, Ben is happy to teach her everything he knows. ----- “Okay.” Rey took a deep breath, preparing herself for the strange, mortifying experience to come. “So what do I do?” “Well,” he said, “first you let me kiss you some more. Then, when you’re ready, you take your clothes off. Then you sit on my face.” “Just like that?” “Just like that.”

She should get the sand - and gravel, and rocks - and run all the way home and make things right for him. Although, the fish had gotten her into this mess in the first place, however inadvertently, so maybe she should move him to Finn’s room where she wouldn’t have to look at his little fins swishing away ever again, reminding her of- Rey's betta fish needs an upgrade in living conditions. When she posts a question asking for help, she gets a little more than she bargained for.
Dissolver of Sugar by Apricot for optimus_pam
“Rey...what could anyone do, to make up for what Kylo Ren did?” Or: Redemption isn't supposed to be easy. A TROS fix-it fic, of sorts.
Delirium by TearoomSaloon for PalenDrome (nerdherderette)
That was the trouble with these things, wasn't it? Every once in a while the drugs backfired and they both got a dose of what was really, probably, very potent pheromones. Excerpt: He heard the edge of anger in her voice, the snarl she tried so desperately to conceal. The powder was getting to her. "You're jealous, aren't you?" "No!" "You are." Against his better judgement, he stalked to her, backing her to the wall. "You can't stand the fact that you're not my first partner." "I'm not your partner!" He leaned in, lips almost to her ear. "You want to be though, don't you?" She barreled into him with a scream, head connecting with his chest as she tackled him to the floor. Faster than he could react, she had his arms pinned over his head, knees firmly pressing into his breastbone. "I don't want to be anything to you. Not your friend, not your ally, and especially not your lover."

look what the cat dragged in. my name is bb, i'm a little idiot who loves iced peach tea and dumb hockey men. i'm my own sugar daddy and someone someday is gonna be lucky to marry me. anyWAy enough about me, on to my mans sire !
sire hellstone is the second son to a happily divorced ex-couple randall and wynonna hellstone. his older brother riordan hellstone was born five years before he was. he originates from long island. there isn’t like, too much to say about his childhood aside from the fact that like he was the charming little boy with like big cartoonish eyes who would always ask for mint ice cream. he remembers going to leafs games with his dad and brother and it’s all very golden and fond.
he was actually lowkey a genius who tested for high school level in elementary. he excelled in science and english, loved reading books with his momma at night before bedtime and actually made it to a local spelling bee. he was a bit of a nerd ? in elementary.
he may or may not have photographic memory, he just has to close his eyes and he’ll see something he looked at briefly.
actually honestly worshipped riordan, there was no wrong that rio could do and he wanted to be just like him.
sire was genuinely a sweet, good boy who wanted to bring goodness to the world. he charmed the pants off of any adult, enjoyed interacting with them and loved to play hockey and play with the local neighborhood kids.
his music taste is a mix of his mom and dad, so like 70′s-80′s rock, little bit of 80′s hits and lots of r&b and trap. his playlist literally leaves ??? over anyone who listens’ heads.
in high school he managed to get 4.0 gpa, was a popular boy who played for the high school hockey team and literally had lots of admirers, both male and female.
his parents got a divorce when sire entered grade 9, riordan was already in college and it was all weird and bizarre and sire had some personal feelings he had to see the counselor about. this kind of warped his personal views on relationships and love. he gathered that love was only for a little while and eventually it would fizzle out. kind of resulted in him not really interested in relationships.
which was why he never bothered to get a significant other. just figured hard work and focusing his energies on school and hockey would fulfill him.
HOWEVER he was very sweet with people when they would confess to him. it wasnt very often but once in a while someone would get brave, poor sire would smile sympathetically and pat their head.
sire graduated and kind of ? just lost himself as he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with himself forever. sire didn’t particularly have any goals and kind of just worked part-time jobs here and there but nothing really inspired him.
tragedy struck and altered sire’s life two years ago. when riordan and his girlfriend skyla were struck by a drunk driver when they was coming home from work. it absolutely broke him. what made matters worse? they left behind a one year old baby girl.
sire was only twenty one at the time, however his life took another turn when he found out that riordan had put sire down as rosemary’s guardian. it was all a blur, sire barley remembers what happened due to his grief, but he does remember picking rosemary up from child services, does remember moving her in to his mom’s house, remembers how much he relied on his mom to help make sense of what the hell just happened.
around the same time while he was waiting for the court hearing, sire decided to become a paramedic as well. he wanted to save lives. his mom and dad supported him and would help with rosemary for the next year and a half as sire studied.
he graduated, because of course he did. sire excelled in all of his courses and exams. sire packed him and rosemary up, said his parting words to his mother and father and thanked them for their help, and went to live in the big city where his job posting was.
that was several months ago and the adjustment period was a little taxing on rosemary, though sire was patient and tender with her. sire loves her like she’s his own daughter.
headcanons :
sire has troubled eyesight, it isn’t so bad that he was a risk to his program, but he does require glasses or contacts. sire is saving up for laser eye surgery.
as a single dad sire isn’t on the social scene much, he does have a drink here and there when he gets home.
rosemary is three turning four, she is a brilliant little girl who does talk though mixes her learned words with babble talk. she’s got riordan and sire’s bright blue eyes and her mom’s curly brown hair. an absolute doll. she is in pre-school. though sire has a babysitter for her as well who lives in the building (perhaps a wc?)
she does sometimes go to grandma’s on sire’s days off, though he hates to be away from her.
sire’s work schedule is 7 days on and 7 days off.
some wc’s i really truly need is sire’s best friend who is also an emotional support. i need someone who does try to be his ‘bad influence’ and by that i mean like urging him to get a babysitter and go out but sire is just too #protective of rosie.
also ??? there’s this girl who was truly whole heartedly in love with sire and he broke her heart because he wasn’t ready for love then. it’s all dramatic and sad and sire does have feelings for her but he was in a weird place and it all went to hell and this is def my most wc.
alSO ! if you have a plot as you read this please let me know just tell me. i wont mind. im so excited to write with all of you !

Katsuki didn’t know when the change had happened: how he had gone from asking why Todoroki chose Deku of all people, to wondering why it was Todoroki that Deku chose.
Troublesome Deku, who cooed like an idiot at cats, tripped at a random catcall and sang badly. Who, despite everything, proved that it wasn’t the quirk that defined a person.
Deku, who was too much, not his, and undeniably off limits to begin with.

22 + stohn (if you want to)
stohn + two miserable people meeting at a wedding auNote: This is an “Everyone is Alive including Cepans” au so I could write a cute Devedor wedding opener, enjoy!----
In the warm lights stood the couple of honor. It was Lorien’s first wedding since the invasion, since the massacre.
Since the Garde children finally came home.
The surprising amount of Loric that survived hid out on the ruins of an abandoned planet, completely forgotten for the lone ship carrying Lorien’s future.
Devektra had fought and she had survived. Now, after so many years, she could complete her union to the man that reignited the hope for her people in her.
She was beautiful in her white folds of a dress, with her platinum hair halfway pinned in a delicate bun on the back of her head. She sway, leaning her head on the shoulder of her newly named husband as they danced to their slow song. It wasn’t one of her own songs, that had surprised everyone in attendance. No, the team chose a song from an old artist from two hundred years prior, before lights and technicians shaped the way the people of Lorien listened to music.
The wedding itself was human inspired, from the tuxedos and wedding gowns to the way the banquet and celebratory dance was held. She liked it that way; he wanted it that way. He had relished in the lifestyle of the rich human people; he spoke of his tower suite, his collection of clothing.
He had told her the truth, of how he tried to forget her. How he imagined her body in the rubble of their prized cities, how there was no chance he would survive his fight on Earth. His alcohol abuse.
She forgave him. She was, after all, a star herself.
They were finally reunited after the war, after the children had revived the planet with the slaying of Setrakus Ra. The cities were still in construction and the leadership was still in ruins. But even in the smolder of a once great civilization, there had to be some spark of joy.
They were happy. Smitten. Together.
It was Devektra and Sandor. In union at last.
Stanley wanted to vomit. He wasn’t one for sappy, he wasn’t one for anything remotely romantic or sugar coated. His life had been brittle, proven by the endless scars across his skin. He’d fought wars from a young age, cracked every pore on his skin, and came out victorious every time.
He lost his innocence at a young age when he watched Sandor, the man of honor, be tortured for any scrap of information he had left.
He wasn’t in the mindset for a wedding. He wasn’t in the mood for something so cliche and sweet when their world had to soon be rebuilt.
There was so much work to be done.
“Is this seat taken,” a bored voice asked him as the rest of the bridal party made its way to the dance floor. Stanley turned his gaze from his self pitying stare to meet blue eyes and blonde hair.
Number Four. Or, as he preferred recently, John Smith.
Stanley almost mistook him for his grandfather, the elder who sacrificed his life to defeat Setrakus Ra and prevent the human world’s ultimate demise. To save the new world elders from certain death.
John looked as done and dreary as Stanley felt. He ached at the little wonder of why. Heroism was in his blood, fame was in his features. He was tall and handsome, with the way his blonde hair curled with sweat around his forehead and how his blue eyes lit and flashed with every little feeling his mustered. He had the charm and look that brought in human girls for miles; he clearly never noticed the few boys that were also lost.
Stanley was one of those. He found John Smith incredibly handsome.
Stanley found him so much more than something to lose your eyes in. After Maddy, it was hard.
After someone fell for John, he wasn’t so sure they could recover. He hasn’t reached that plateau yet. Right now, he was the quiet admirer. He liked his features, he liked the way John had taken the war by force. How he wasn’t scared to feel. He liked what he knew about John Smith, the calm and ambitious Garde with legacies that harnessed the power of fire.
But all he knew was myths. The Cepan never let the other Garde get too close to the others, the children found ways around the Cepan rules.
Stanley never let himself meet John Smith completely. They knew each other’s numbers. They knew of the other’s skill, fought alongside each other. Stanley kept his numerical bonds with Eight and Ten the limits of his friendships; John had done with same with Five while keeping his family’s friendship with Six alive. Stanley wondered if John thought the same as him, that he didn’t dare risk having anymore friends. Friends could die.
Lovers could die.
“I don’t care, take it.”
“It’s just nice to see someone else hate happiness too,” Four remarked as he took the seat.
“I don’t hate happiness ,” Stanley hissed quietly. John chuckled, keeping his tired eyes on the dancers. “I just hate weddings. And love. And romance.”
“Because you can’t get any?”
Stanley glared at John. He was lippy. This was a first. Not a lot of people talked back to him.
“Because that’s my Cepan out there. I’m only here because it’s for him. I also just… hate flowers.” Anything to end this conversation.
“Wow. Flowers are Number Nine’s only weakness. Explains a lot,” John commented, finally turning his attention on Stanley. His eyes were laughing. So much for quiet.
“Fuck you, Four,” he growled to himself, looking back to Sandor. His Cepan was twirling like nothing else mattered, Devektra laughing along with his stunt. Sandor was the shy nerd back in Lorien’s golden days, now here he was showing off his stunts for the remainder of their people.
“Some people want to,” he replied, almost like he practiced the response.
“Then go find someone who would.”
Beat.
“It’s not the same,” John shrugged. Stanley stole a glance at him. His face once again bared a tired feeling. Maybe even a little defeated. He looked older than he was, seventeen years and counting. He risked edging a thousand with his ripe heritage but even now, he looked dated.
“Because they’re not human?” He knew the risk of asking that but he still persisted. He didn’t know John and John didn’t know him. They knew of each other. Asking the pointed questions he’d only heard whispers of from the others was the only way he could get to know him.
“You’re one to talk,” John countered, meeting his eye with a narrowed expression. He was guarded now. He also proved that he knew more than he let on too. “I mean, it’s not the same to be around someone who doesn’t feel the same.”
“We’ll all a little battered, so what,” Stanley remarked.
John let out a soft sigh.
“I wasn’t sure I was going to like you,” John murmured and turned his eyes off of Stanley back onto the floor. Many of the other wedding goers had run out into the music, pulling their friends or partners in tow. Stanley
His quiet answer took Stanley back. The older boy took a breath.
“What does that mean?”
“You know,” John mumbled again. “I’ve heard of you. I’ve seen you and what our fight for life did to you… as it had to me. You get it so I came over to talk to you because if anyone understood what it feels like, you would, Stanley. I wasn’t sure you’d actually be… worth talking to. We’re both guarded, protective of ourselves. ”
The last word would have stung if Stanley did not, in fact, understand the horrors. Even if it wasn’t the same, where John was forced to leave behind many people he cared for while Stanley watched the girl he cared for give her life for him, it was a pain no little ten seconds of someone else’s glorified happiness could try to fix.
“How did it feel,” John asked suddenly.
“To what?”
“To have someone to love you back.”
Oh.
“Well…” he started slowly. After months of her death, months of fighting, of blood, he felt the words easily fall from his mouth. John would understand, he was certain. “When it happens… it’s the best feeling in the world,” Stanley would have never let the soft smile cross his face if he hadn’t let himself heal that little bit. The smile lasts a mere second as soon as he remembers. He remembers holding her body, being told to flee. The smoke had gagged him, the explosions threatened to deafen him. He remembers the week of nightmares that followed; he remembers ripping the head off of the next Mog to cross his path without remorse.
Sandor had been his grief counselor for the next two years they had waited to reunite with the Garde and their Cepans. Eight became his closest friend shortly after that but his intimate relationship with Marina, Number Seven, made it hard to rely on him. He slowly realized he couldn’t try and rely on anyone else; Sandor had been seriously injured while Eight still bears the scars of the knife that almost carved his heart out.
Stanley’s own scar had been emotional.
“A lot of Loric thought I was going to being Sarah with me,” John grinned to himself. “What’s so wrong with a boy and a girl being friends? I liked her once but… she didn’t like me that way. We respected each other, cared for each other. I can’t fault her for that and I can’t fault myself for being disappointed by that either.”
Rumors. The human relationships, the human distractions, all rumors made by the other Garde or loric. John Smith hadn’t experienced mutual love.
“People died for us, Nine,” John murmured, closing his eyes. He called him Nine, just Nine. No one did anymore. He preferred it but in respect for the humans, the other Garde voted against him to keep their human names. “I’m not more ready than you are.”
“I’m not asking for someone-”
“I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just telling you that you’re not alone.”
Stanley looked down at his hands.
“Our scars are similar, but they aren’t the same. You can’t compare your crush-”
“Compare? You’re so stupid,” John cut him off. “Want to see my scars? They’re pretty ugly. Or hear the names of everyone I left behind? We can compare if you want, it won’t change that we both bare them.”
Stanley turned back to John as the blonde raised a hand to his throat, running his fingertips along the hollow of his neck. He caught sight of the thin purple line that ran across it and felt his stomach clench. His blue eyes fogged slightly and his lips are pursed together in a deep frown.
He didn’t like the look on his friend. His new friend. Because someone found him and sat with him but didn’t want to lecture him about what he should do next. Someone who saw his scars and just wanted to remind him that there are other people who are broken that could use his experience.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, it’s brought us here.”
Stanley blinked and felt the smile ghost his lips.
He thinks, sitting next to the open and similarly scarred by their past, that he could be ready to move on soon. He liked John enough to start something small. Friendship, someone besides Eight to unload all of his angst onto. Someone who opened up to him first.
Stanley was ready to take a risk.
“Actually… do you want to get out of here for a while? I think we could use some air.”
John smiled softly.
“Actually, I’d love that.”
Beat. It was the bouquet toss; several female members of the bridal party and wedding goers stormed the dance floor as Devektra took the stage and used her legacies to add sparkle and light to the flashing. She turned her back, flourishing the folds of her dress in a circle around her as she spun and posed with the flowers.
“Now’s a good time to flee,” Stanley said, standing up and offering his hand to John. John raised a curious brow before smiling and taking it. His skin was warm and far softer than he thought. He expected calluses and ruin permanently cracked into his palms but they were kind. He kept the hold on his hand as they walked towards the exit, pulling John along as the crowd’s energy grew incohesive.
John chuckled to himself.
“I thought about catching the bouquet to scare you.”
Stanley rolled his eyes but he kept his grin.
“Thanks for thinking about me, dick.”

Gift Fic Master Post Part Two:
In Other Words, Hold My Hand for MBlair
Stargazing and waltzing on the lake.
Meet Me in the Meadow for MeadowHayle
Ben was not the typical Alpha. Rey was not the typical Omega. Utterly indifferent to other people, only in their fantasies or dreams would they experience desire. After many years of loneliness, they meet in a support group for struggling demi-humans, and everything changes. Ben and Rey embark together on a healing journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Maybe, they don’t need to be alone, anymore. Maybe, they were never alone, to begin with.
The Rise of Ren for Merixcil
For the last seat in the Knights of Ren, there are two candidates. The first, a powerful scion of a great Force legacy, formally trained by the last Jedi. The second, a force sensitive urchin with no past, nurtured by the cut-throat criminal underworld. Kylo or Kira. There can only be one.
Legion for midwinterspring
The war was over. Across the galaxy, hundreds called out in one voice: “I need a teacher.” A fic for midwinterspring for the RFFA Valentine’s Day 2020 Exchange Prompt: Rey and Ben train new Force users and fix things
All That Glitters for MintyCel
The Kingdom of Exegol holds the key to Kylo's future. All he needs to do is to get past the omega guarding it.
Thaw My Frozen Heart for Miranda13
“A bounty hunter decides that the former Supreme Leader would make an excellent prize and manages to get the jump on Ben while he is on a mission for the Resistance, encasing him in carbonite. Rey is quick to mount a solo rescue mission and helps Ben recover from the hibernation sickness when she eventually gets him back." - Reylo-Prompts
Good Boy for MissCoppelia
Ben adopts a dog who needs some training. Thankfully, he gets help (and a little bit more) from Rey, a dog trainer.
the world's not perfect but for misszeldasayre
Turns out the galaxy is a lawless place with every sentient for themselves.
like roses and clover for mrstater
It never gets easier, you just get better. for MyJediLife
Ben is an addict working through his pain. Rey is a counselor assigned to his care. They weren't supposed to fall in love.
Dreamscape for Nebulous Bounds (RainonyourBack)
Kylo mostly worsens and occasionally betters Rey's visions while she sleeps.
Why we can't be for newseptembers
When old Maz forsaw a dyad, Rey never thought it would be a soulmate bond between her and the First Order coven member Kylo Ren. Desperately trying to undo her connection to the enemy, she seeks out ancient texts and meets Ben, a bookshop owner and crafter, who seems to catch her attention every time they meet.
Beside the Lake for Ngoc12thefangirl
You Need A Teacher for ninecrimes
After the events of TROS, Rey returns to Ahch-To... and a healed Ben Solo. There, she plans to consummate their relationship. Too bad she has no idea what she's doing.... Luckily, Ben is happy to teach her everything he knows. ----- “Okay.” Rey took a deep breath, preparing herself for the strange, mortifying experience to come. “So what do I do?” “Well,” he said, “first you let me kiss you some more. Then, when you’re ready, you take your clothes off. Then you sit on my face.” “Just like that?” “Just like that.”
Grey Skies Ahead for NiriKeehan
She took his hand—not in the name of the Light, or the Dark. They were a dyad, the embodiment of balance—an Alliance of Grey.
Ever as before and ever just as sure as the sun will rise for OccasionallyCreative
The war is over. On a peaceful estate in Naboo's Lake Country, Rey and Ben prepare for their wedding and think of how they got here. Using lyrics of title song of 'Beauty and the Beast'.
swish of the bumblebee for OptimisticBeth
She should get the sand - and gravel, and rocks - and run all the way home and make things right for him. Although, the fish had gotten her into this mess in the first place, however inadvertently, so maybe she should move him to Finn’s room where she wouldn’t have to look at his little fins swishing away ever again, reminding her of- Rey's betta fish needs an upgrade in living conditions. When she posts a question asking for help, she gets a little more than she bargained for.
Dissolver of Sugar for optimus_pam
“Rey...what could anyone do, to make up for what Kylo Ren did?” Or: Redemption isn't supposed to be easy. A TROS fix-it fic, of sorts.
Delirium for PalenDrome (nerdherderette)
Renewed for patig_00
The world between worlds is neither hot nor cold. So when Ben feels his arms break into gooseflesh, when his shoulder aches with not a remembrance but an actual twinge of pain, when he tries to rouse himself from meditation and realizes that he’s fighting the need to fall back asleep, he opens his eyes—in a room on the Millennium Falcon. [[Something in the Force allows Ben Solo to be resurrected on the Millenium Falcon during a little Resistance mission. Expected hilarity ensues. Angst WITH A HAPPY ENDING.]]
a million miles (cross the ocean) for persimonne
in which the Force tries to pay back some of the debt it owes the Skywalkers.
All that's best of dark and bright for persopilliankore
Rey had big plans for Valentine's Day: laundry, errands, and an evening of fantasizing over her impossibly sexy building manager, Ben Solo. That was before she found an anonymous love poem in her mailbox.
Wherever There is You, I Will be There Too for politicalmamaduck

What Was Lost Is Now Found for punkeraa
"Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." The Parable of the Prodigal Son, New International Version
Be With Me for qotsisajakk
TROS Fix-it. When Rey asks the Jedi of the past to be with her, the bond she shares with Kylo Ren also opens. He is forced to come to terms with his growing feelings for her, and together, they take down the greatest evil, those words continue to bring them together.
Always in Motion for QueenOfCarrotFlowers

Unfortunately, she's been seated next to the douchebag who's been pestering her for the last two hours. More unfortunately, she finds a letter in her carry-on bag telling her that their plane is about to go down. The worst part? The letter was written by Luke Skywalker, a man who has been dead for years.
we might be the outsiders for radioactivesaltghoul
As though, in a blink, the cavern becomes light, and he sees the pale cream and gold shimmer of the creature, with a dark brown pattern across the head and hood.
Between the Sun and the Moon for redbelles
The Force demands that Rey and Ben pay a price for the power they gained in their preparation to take down Palpatine, but they don’t learn what they paid until it disturbs the peaceful life they’re trying to build together after the war is over.
Starless Sky, Black for RedPaladin465
“Why did you change your mind?” It takes a long time for her to answer. “I didn’t want to be alone.”
The Girl From The Tower for ReyloBrit
Prompt: "Quiet and obedient Rey lives a godly life with her grandfather, until the family hire a new gardener Ben, a mysterious and deeply attractive man. Sparks fly between the two."
The Falcon and the Wolf for reylotrash711
On the fifth anniversary of the destruction of Starkiller Base the Senate is throwing a masked ball and invited members of the old Resistance. Still trying to rehabilitate his image, Senator Ben Solo has no choice but to attend. Written to fulfill this prompt: Ben and Rey dance at a masked ball, unaware of who they are dancing with. Until the masks are taken off at midnight. Romance and Sexual Tension ensue, will they be able to refrain their urges? Hell no. But I also mixed in a healthy dose of this prompt as well: Prompt 2 - What if Ben was unable to bring Rey back and had to call on the help of the Skywalkers that came before him? Is he ready to pay the price of losing his force sensitivity for the women he loves?
and we'll live a long life for ReyloTrashCompactor (NextToSomething)

Found Belonging for rissanox
Rey joins her friends and former comrades in arms on Chandrila for the festivities around the anniversary of the battle of Exegol. To everyone’s surprise she is accompanied by two mysterious Mandalorians.
Loathe Thy Neighbor for SaintHeretical
Rey's neighbor is the worst. He listens to terrible music, he's impolitely large, and he smells incredible. She hates almost everything about him. Especially the smelling good bit.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? for shiiera
Ben Solo travels to Takodana National Park in South Africa on a research mission where he meets fellow researcher, Rey. While they might get along as well as lions and hyenas at first, perhaps they have more in common with each other than they think.
He's Just Not That Into You(r) Scent for shipperofdarkness
Rey is a young and single Omega who hasn't had a lot of luck so far finding a nice Beta guy who isn't a total flake. They say they've had a great time with her, but seem to have a difficult time with calling her back. Ben is an Alpha bartender who is tired of hearing about her dating difficulties, and is ready to drop some truth bombs. An ABO He's Just Not That Into You AU
The Purest Love for six4au
When a deeply scarred and traumatized Ben Solo is placed in a program to try and pair him with a canine helper, he finds that he gets more than he ever imagined with the therapist assigned to him.
The Monster in Skywalker Manner for solikerez
Rey marches up the walk, takes hold of the door knocker, and bangs it sharply three times. Nothing. She rattles the door handle. Nothing. Absurdly, she checks the address (is this the right creepy-and-probably-abandoned-Skywalker-Manner on Alderaan street?). It is. -Or- Rey takes a shady job to clean the old Skywalker Manner and discovers that there's something much scarier than dust and spiderwebs living there. But maybe that's not the whole story, because what kind of monster loves roses and books?
Stargazing for SpaceWaffleHouseTM
“I wish they would go blind, stop whispering: he’s lying, he’ll leave. I hate that they know what I don’t want to hear. Their poison passes my lips, harmless. Call me Faith, not Medusa, no one need become stone.”
through the darkness to the dawn for starfleetjedi
She couldn’t breathe. Spots danced in her vision, black as the nothingness yawning behind her breastbone. Ben was gone. No. The plea tore out of her, wild and broken, racing through the vastness of the Force, past stars and planets and distant moons to the far edges of the universe. There was only silence. She tried again. Ben. Ben, please. Answer me. Or: Rey, after.
Tabula Rasa for suchlostcreatures (godfmischief)
Ben survives the battle on Exegol. That was the easy part.
Intro to Love for TheStolenQuill
Rey and Ben are music students, put together to work on a final that, surprise isn't in a music class. They hadn't really known each other much before that but will that change as they keep working together?
I met you once — ( In a dream ) for thewayofthetrashcompactor (BriarLily)
He sucks in a deep breath and exhales, a pout forming on his plump lips and it's so distracting the way they- "Just Ben," He closes his eyes. "see me no more than that, 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚." Or Where Ben and Rey are soulmates and Ben is more than meets the eye
Supernova for Tiara_of_Sapphires
“She loved him so much she was going to smother him with it until there wasn’t a molecule of doubt left in his heart.” After the war Rey and Ben settle into an uneasy life of peace, followed by judgment and resentment. Ben Solo may have decided to remain behind to atone for his sins, but the people won’t forget Kylo Ren so soon.
Happy Accident for tmf
A baby. Her baby having a baby. She’d given up dreams of grandchildren when Ben was fourteen, and not even his having a steady girlfriend had let her change her mind about it. “So yeah, we need to talk,” Rey mumbles at last. Ben doesn’t say a word, and Leia can imagine him clearly, sitting there, staring off into space, dazed—like when she’d told Han that she was pregnant. One fun night at the Yub Nub Club and a little bit of carelessness with the condom... Not that she’d ever tell Ben that he’d been an accident. He’d guessed it for years, but she’d go to her grave asserting he hadn’t been. “You want to keep it,” Ben says at last—a statement, not a question. — Or: Leia watches her son and his girlfriend prepare to become parents.
Crafting A Connection for tmwillson3
Rey and Ben have been friends forever, so much so that Ben never dreamed that it something as small as getting that manager's position he'd been gunning for would get in the way of it. Now that it has, Rey's been distant. So... so distant and he has no idea how to get her back. Rey has only been trying to be a good friend and not use him for his status, which means instead of accepting rides from him like she had, she hasn't. She isn't trying to push him away but things are different, and he's difficult now. What on earth can she do about it? Mother nature has something to say about these two, that's for sure. The snow storm of the year is coming, stranding the two together the Friday before Valentine's Day weekend to give them the time to work things out.

Bend or Break for tweis24
It's been six months since the Battle of Crait. Both sides of the war have been continuing down their path, both sides struggling with loss. For some, it's just business. But for others, it's personal. For Rey of Jakku and Kylo Ren... it most certainly is personal. Once again, the Supreme Leader of the First Order and the Jedi, Hope of the Resistance confront each other and clash. How will they react and what will transpire when Bonds are blocked and unexpected events are thrown their way? Will either of them bend? Or will they break?
Heaven, let me through for Twisted_Mirror
No matter how hard they try, they can't get each other out of their heads.
Osmosis for viajeramyra
“I don’t need Ben Solo,” Rey states, rising from the throne. Her steps are slow and deliberate as she stalks towards him. “I need Kylo Ren.” Distantly, she notes the irony. And then she offers him her hand. ------ In which Ben doesn't reach Rey in time. (And the one time he does.)
Tell the World I'm Alive for VirtualMadness
Rey returns to Exegol to retrieve all she has left of Ben Solo: his shirt. But what she finds there isn't at all what she expected to find. (Title comes from the song Who Will Save You Now by Les Friction. The lyrics are just so Reylo and it's a beautiful song.)
