Sealand x Greta thunberg climate change collab when???
Bro, he and Greta are tight-
Peter got into the whole Climate Debate before Greta was even born (around the 80s) but as soon as that woman began to do her thing and Peter realized she was Swedish, him living in Sweden almost all the time - fr told Berwald to help get in contact with her and he did
And seriously I believe they share tips and sources and debate and discuss together sometimes, meet up at protests (Coal mining protest where Greta got arrested 💅, eksample) meet for tea, exchange and such-
And I do believe Peter tries to fly as little as possible, like Greta, as well. He probably takes a boat to suffolk and takes public transit to London and hops on the train that goes to Berlin that goes up through Denmark where he takes the øresunds train from Copenhagen to Göteborg where Berwald picks him up.
It's a LONG JOURNEY, but I think at this point he romantisizes it as a quest. And also down time to play games on his nintendo switch

I'm not a hero, 'cuz calling yourself a "hero" makes you a self-mythologizing narcissistic autocrat
Or, welcome to my dissertation on heroes, punks, Hobie Brown, and Spider-Man
Get comfortable because I have a lot to say
(btw English is not my first language, if you catch some error don't hesitate to correct me)
Tumblr media
So, I cannot say that I am a Spider-Punk expert, because, never being very interested in Spider-Man, I was not aware of his existence before seing him in the Across the Spider-Verse trailer. That being said, I instantly fell in love with his character, starting with his iconic entrance and presentation.
And a sentence stuck with. I'm not a hero, 'cuz calling yourself a "hero" makes you a self-mythologizing narcissistic autocrat.
It just sounds like Hobie is being a typical contrary punk teenager here, presenting himself in opposition to the other spider-men, but like most things Hobie do and say, I don't think it's random.
Remember when he was plucking things from the walls in Miguel's lab and everyone assumed he was being randomly destructive when he was actually collecting materials for Gwen's watch ?
Anyway, Heroes are not Punk
Heroes are a big part of the subconscious of today's individualistic and consumerist society. I am not only talking about superheroes here ; can you imagine Star Wars without Luke Skywalker ? I am talking about Robin Hood, about Harry Potter, about any figure coming out of nothing to save the day. Because they all have their origin is the most hero of all heroes, our lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.
The prevalence of that kind of story as two consequences (that I can see) :
The first one is the cult of the personality. You know it. Without that faith in the providential man (or woman, who knows) would there be as many Elon Musk's fanboys ? It's of course very linked to consumerism, and to the very existence of influencers. We need role models, and to show our support to them, we consume their products, or emulate they appearance, they lifestyle. And we buy. And we listen. And we obey.
The other consequence is inaction. We wait, for someone to come and save us, to lead us to a better future, to show us the way. We wait for second coming of the Christ, when really, all the important social fights were won collectively. I am going to take an example from my country, Belgium, as this is what I am familiar with. The south of the country used to live from the coal mines in the 19th century, and it was a true capitalist hellhole. The situation only got better after some very violent revolts amongst the workers. I have studied that subject in university, quite extensively, but I don't remember one single name on the side of the workers. Sure, at some point someone was probably chosen as a negotiator, they were some figurehead during the fights, but nobody quite remember them. We remember the collectivity, because it's the collectivity who actually made things change.
I am not saying that we should not admire people, or follow them, but there is a big difference between a figurehead and a hero. Sometimes someone will crystallize the attention, and the energy of the people, and help put something into movement. That someone can even be fictional ! But when the figurehead become a hero, when the people stop trying because they think that special person/group of person is going to save them, we get a Greta Thunberg situation. Yeah, remember her speech ?
This is all wrong. I shouldn't be up here. I should be back in school in the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope ? How dare you.
She is a girl, a child truly, who was trust into the role of a hero and saw everyone around her stop trying and start to look up to her to do something. And nothing happens.
Remember what Miles said at the end of the last movie ?
Tumblr media
Anyone can wear the mask. Anyone can be the hero. It's a good line. It's hopeful. It's inspiring.
But Hobie give us a slight variant. Nobody should wear the mask. We should not need heroes. It makes me think of Bertolt Brecht, a Marxist autor who said "unhappy is the land that is in need of heroes".
I don't think we could do without heroes. And to be fair, I love heroes, I love superhero stories, and while I absolutely hate wars, stories of men doing inspiring things in war fascinate me. I don't know where I am going with this whole thing, so I am going to let it like that for now and maybe come back to it later with a clearer head.
That being said, if I see anyone with official™ Hobie Brown merch, it's on sight motherfuckers

Greta Thunberg joins protests at German village under threat of destruction over coal mine | World News
Greta Thunberg joins protests at German village under threat of destruction over coal mine | World News
Greta Thunberg has condemned the forced removal of protesters from a small village in western Germany that is due to be demolished to accommodate the expansion of an open coal mine. Speaking in Lutzerath in North Rhine-Westphalia, the climate activist said: “Germany is really embarrassing itself right now. “The science is clear: we need to keep the carbon in the ground.” She went on to claim that…

LMFAO
All the Andrew Tate fan's laughing and pointing at Greta Thunberg for being arrested.
Here's the difference though:
Greta is trying to save the world with her activism. At the time, Greta was protesting in Germany against a coal mining expansion and it's plans to demolish an active village.
Whereas, Andrew Tate was FOUND and arrested in Romania on charges of Rape and Human Trafficking, which is a pretty serious charge to me. Let's not also forget, Andrew Tate is the one that moving to Romania is "40% the reason" why he moved there. Because it's easier to get off Rape Charges in Romania than it is in the UK, and, he also said,
"I’m not a f****** rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want. I like being free."
So, what's the difference? Greta is actually doing something that could benefit the entire world by teaching it's inhabitants how to prolong human life. While Andrew Tate is being a mysoginistic bastard, really does nothing for our planet, really has no purpose in life than to drag and shit on women because boohoo, wah, wah.
Just want to point out, Andrew Tate fans, that no one is laughing with you when you're laughing and pointing at Greta Thunberg. We're laughing AT you, because you're all stupid as fuck, following a weird ass mysoginistic 30-something year old man, thinking that what he spews is so "based" and "woke", when it's absolutely not. Read the fucking room.
Honestly, I hope more women (and men who hate Andrew Tate, cause I know there's quite a handful) are trained in self defense (or at least know how to give a good punch), because I'd like to see some of these dumb fucks slapped so hard they go crying to their momma's asking to be held and coddled.

tl;dr: the German government is currently doing tleverything in their power to brake the Paris agreement and further fuck up the climate.
Last year one of the biggest energy companies in Germany asked for permission to tear down a German village called Lützerath (roughly pronounced loo-tzer-rat) to access the coal stored in the ground beneeth it. (No one has been living there for a year or two now because RWE relocated them, but activists have occupied it ever since.) RWE presented evidence, that the coal would be needed to cover Germany's energy usage. The Green Party saw this request as an option to make a deal. In exchange for Lützerath RWE would have to stop mining coal in 2030 instead of 2038 (many climate activists and scientists agree that that would be way too late). RWE obviously accepted because they would be able to make a huge amount of money.
Now, with this information, this deal might seem reasonable. However, independent sources have shown that RWE made completely wrong claims. The coal under Lützerath is not necessary to cover Germany's energy needs, and moreover, this would mean that more CO2 would be released than with the original plan of stopping in 2038. This would also mean that Germany would inevitably brake the Paris agreement in which 194 countries agreed to limit global warming to 1.5°c and many more policies to help stop or at least slow down climate change.
Instead of seeing this new information, coming to the conclusion that they were given false information by RWE and not allow RWE to access the coal und Lützerath, they've decided to double down and go through with the plan. This includes the Green Party, which has built its entire political campaign and image on saving the environment and climate.
This triggered demonstrations all over the country and many more activists went to Lützerath. Apparently around 700 people were camping in Lützerath last week.
And once again, instead of seeing the uproar and accepting that they were lied to, the government made the decision to clear Lützerath by force. As of last Wednesday (11.01.2023) the police officially started clearing Lützerath.
Supply networks were set up and the activists stood their ground with many more trying to join. On Saturday there was a Demonstration with 35,000 participants (according to fff) and Greta Thunberg was present.
But as of now (noon, Monday 16th January) Lützerath has officially been cleared. The last two activists who were left in the Tunnels beneath Lützerath have given up (I don't blame them at all).
We all knew that this point would come but the hope was to slow down the process long enough that they couldn't start this year. That would have meant one more year for political campaigning and pressure und one year less in which the carbon from Lützerath gets released into the atmosphere.
I don't know whether all has failed yet. Activists are still fighting and demonstrations are still happening but it doesn't seem like the government cares. Not even the party that prides itself on its climate policies (although some fractions of the party have spoken out gheir support for the activists and distance themselves from the decision)
Logically i knew that politicians and the government care more about money and the economy than people but a part of me hoped that it wasn't all of them and seeing it so blatantly is still shocking.
I see a lot of praise of Germany on the English speaking side of the Internet and not a lot about the bad, which is obviously very present and important to talk about.
I don't really have a conclusion except, go demonstrate if you can and if you can't, there's other stuff you can do, like buying locally. If none of that is an option for you, don't feel to bad because the majority of pollution is cause by big companies and to stop them we need policies so go vote in all elections you can both national and local.
Although it sometimes feels like all is lost, that's only actually true if we do nothing.

Germany | Thousands of anti-coal activists demonstrate, led by Greta Thunberg
(Frankfurt) A procession of thousands of demonstrators led by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg marched on Saturday towards the Lützerath camp, on the edge of a huge open-pit coal mine in western Germany, which they denounce the expansion. Environmental activists arriving from all over Germany and Europe beat the countryside of the Rhine basin and sing to the sound of a brass band, noted AFP…

Forever is in our Hands: Psalm 23 for Earth Day
A poem for Earth Day by my friend Rev. Maren Tirabassi (her info is below).
Forever is in our Hands: Psalm 23 for Earth Day
God makes us shepherds and gardeners, so none of God’s relations – creatures, growing things, land, water, wind, sky ¬– need be in want. God gives us lying down places of green pasture, rainforest, delta, desert, high mountain, deep canyon, and paths by arroyo, deep river, waterfall, ocean shore, and these restore our souls. Creator leads us to care, not from duty, but from love. Though we pass chemically poisoned fields, over-fished seas, the violence of fracking, mountaintop removal coal mining, the terrible tears of the valley of extinction, when we join the weeping, we no longer fear. God sets up one global table – in spite of the turned-over-ones of corporate influence, money, political power. God anoints us with community, teaches us overflowing wells. Surely we follow with committed people people of goodness and mercy, from Chico Mendes to Greta Thunberg, and so many, so many more. Where we dwell now is God’s house. Forever is in our hands.

Greta Thunberg's 'The Climate Book' urges world to keep climate justice out front February 9, 2023
Tumblr media
Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg waits in Erkelenz, Germany, to take part in a demonstration at a nearby a coal mine on Jan. 14.2023
"Impressively, in The Climate Book, Thunberg and team — which includes well-known names like Margaret Atwood, George Monbiot, Bill McKibben and Robin Wall Kimmerer --explain and offer action items in 84 compelling, bite-size chapters.
Most critically, they — and Thunberg herself in numerous brief essays of her own — explain what steps need to be taken without delay if the world is to have a reasonable chance of limiting global temperature rise as stated in the 2015 Paris Agreement. The document aims to keep the temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius (and better yet below 1.5 degrees Celsius).
The essays also explain why climate justice must be at the center of these efforts.
"If we do not see anyone else behaving as if we are in a crisis, then very few will understand that we actually are in a crisis," she writes.
Thunberg writes that "No entity other than the media has the opportunity to create the necessary transformation of our global society."
Social norms can and do change, Thunberg emphasizes. That's our greatest source of hope — but only if we keep climate justice front and center at every step."
