The difference in reaction between him going with Crowley shoving him and just in general (gently) manhandling him without any sort of adverse reaction versus the absolute terror overtaking his face when the archangels have him cornered against a wall haunts me every single day.
Sit down, gang, we’re gonna talk about the Wall Scene.
I know, I know, other people have screamed about it before, but when your friends ask you to do a thing, you should oblige.
But you know exactly what scene I’m talking about. They’re walking down halls, kicking in the doors of an ex-Satanic convent, Crowley admits to being Soft because even though he turned the paintball guns into real guns, he also made sure that no one would die.
“They’re all having miraculous escapes,” he says. Because he knew Aziraphale would be upset otherwise.
Aziraphale replies, “You know, I’ve alway said that you really are quite a nice–”
And then. and T H E N
First of all, and this is fairly important: if you look closely, Crowley don’t even push him against the wall hard. He wants to intimidate Aziraphale so he’ll stop doing things like calling him NICE, but he doesn’t want to hurt him. Never wants to hurt him.
In fact, if you notice, he only pushes far enough for Aziraphale’s back to hit the wall. He doesn’t push hard enough or lean in hard enough for Aziraphale to hit his head on the wall. Look closely.
Aziraphale is the one to rest his head against the wall, that doesn’t happen because Crowley is too rough with him.
But the second thing, fam, the second thing I wanna say is this: when someone grabs you like that, usually you grab them back. You bring your hands up to defend yourself, you try to escape, you turn away, brace yourself for the attack, you do s o m e t h i n g.
Aziraphale does NOTHING. He holds his hand out behind him just to feel for the wall, but other than that, he lets Crowley manhandle him. He doesn’t even look away, he’s staring right at Crowley, meeting his gaze steadily.
And look at his hands in the gif above. They don’t clench into fists. Never, not once. There is no fear response.
Now look at Aziraphale’s face. He’s surprised, but he’s not afraid.
That’s not a look of fear, fam, that is a look of Gay Panic because oh no, our bodies are pressed together and our noses are touching. His eyes even flick down to where the tips of their noses brush.
He never once tries to push Crowley off of him, tries to escape, nothing. Never, not once, do we see fear on his face.
And, in fact, when Sister Mary Loqacious comes along, we see the opposite.
Excuse me, gentlemen, sorry to break up in intimate moment.
Crowley turns to inspect the newcomer, Aziraphale does not. Aziraphale is too focused on Crowley.
Look at his eyes. First focused on where their noses had been touching, just like in the last gif, and then when Crowley looks away, he only lifts his gaze to stare at Crowley’s profile.
LOOK AT THAT EXPRESSION.
Excuse me, sir, I’m going to have to cite you for excessive longing.
My favorite thing, though, my absolutely favorite thing, is Crowley immediately looks to Mary, whereas it takes a moment for Aziraphale to realize they’re being intruded upon.
What was that? Other people exist? Dear me.
Also, like, listen. This strange woman is walking up to them and speaking to them and NEITHER OF THESE NERDS move away from each other.
Usually, when two people are caught in what might be called a “compromising” position–especially when the person catching them calls it an ‘intimate moment’–the two people involved try to put as much distance between them as possible and laugh it off.
Not these nerds, oh no. They literally stay pressed together against a wall, just looking at her as she talks to them. Crowley doesn’t even move away when he realizes who she is.
Aziraphale, still content to be held against the wall, is like, “Oh, we know her?”
But look at them! They’re still just standing there! This woman is RIGHT NEXT TO THEM, is ACTIVELY STARTING A CONVERSATION WITH THEM, and they’re like “what is personal space.”
Crowley only moves away from Aziraphale when Mary starts backing up like she’s gonna run.
And then what happens? They bicker like an old married couple. Because of course they do.
Why would they do anything else????

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden by Hannah Green; My Thoughts.
A story written from the perspective of a schizophrenic 16-19-year-old, Deborah Blau, in her journey through recovery from her illness and learning how to be part of the world. I loved this book, I found it to be a very hopeful look at mental illness and recovery from these sorts of things. I was a mentally ill teenager not too long ago (I turn 20 in 3 months, excitingly, so I am soon not going to be a teenager anymore) and so I connected to Deborah very closely in her relationships and thoughts. These are my opinions and thoughts on the novel (ended up being quite long, so below the cut!).
Now, I originally wanted The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It was checked out when I visited my library (it still is, annoyingly enough), and the nice lady at the information desk recommended this book instead. I have yet to read The Bell Jar, I still want to, but from what I have heard this is a more hopeful look than that. I am still not in a good mental state, so it was probably for the best I read this novel instead..
The book enters in on Deborah Blau at 16. She has attempted suicide, so her parents have decided to send her to the institution where she spends the entirety of the book. She is very separate from the reader emotionally, no connection can be found between you and her for the majority of the book. She is very separate from her own emotions, so one can't expect to connect yourself to hers when she can't even feel them herself.
The therapist she works with for the entirety of the novel, Dr. Fried, gets a lot of criticism for playing into the "hero therapist" trope, but I don't think she does at all! She is very real with Deborah and does not lie to her about her ability to recover from this. Her bluntness and lack of "sugar coating" or lying in any way helps Deborah in the end. Deborah is very smart and logical, so lying to her and trying to baby her wouldn't work at all. She would respond very badly. So, Dr. Fried's behavior (blunt, unceremonious, just overall very direct and to the point) works in her favor in her work with Deb.
Deborah's parents are a different story. Her mother, Esther Blau is very direct as a person but is also very easily subjected to the will of her father. She speaks about how she valued his opinions over her own husband's, and likely hurt him in this. She needs to please him and prove to him she can be as good as her siblings, who are favored over her. When she had Deborah, she was finally 'important' to her father in the way her siblings were, but not even fully. Deborah was always her grandfather's favorite grandchild, so with Esther having Deborah she was finally important to her father as the mother of his favorite grandchild.
The grandfather reminds me of my own father, he was very hard to please I'll say. His relationship with Deborah is similar to my own with my father. My father was harsh with me but I knew I was his favorite of me and my brothers. He loved his daughters and treated them in this specific way, of being special and important. It was important to behave the way he desired, so we could continue to be special. I have an older sister, which is why I say "we" and "daughters". The relationship Deborah has with her grandfather is similar to my and my sisters with my father. I am pleased to say he passed March of 2023 after a lifelong struggle with alcoholism and other addictions, the man drank himself to death finally.
Deborah's father is interesting, to say the least. He loves his daughter but is hurt by her illness. He sees it as almost a betrayal from her to him. It is hard to read him because I find resentment towards him. He finds himself hurt by the illness which is not Deborah's fault, and finds himself angry at her for her own illness. I can only be appreciative that Esther can limit his ability to talk to Deborah and not let this disappointment and anger affect her recovery. Esther is my favorite of the parents, I dislike Jacob Blau.
Deborah has a younger sister, Suzy Blau, who is pretty upset about being lied to about her older sister's condition and how it is 'taking all the love' from her. I can understand Suzy being upset and almost jealous of her older sister, she is only twelve and cannot fully understand the intricacies of the situation at hand. She loves her sister and her parents regardless though. I do like Suzy.
Deborah meets many characters in the ward, I won't go into detail with them, but if you read the book you'll see the friendships she makes and how this affects her both negatively and positively.
Through Dr. Fried's work and unyielding belief in Deborah, 19-year-old Deborah can get her GED and fully accept the world. The novel ends with the quote, "Full weight," where Deborah is saying her full weight is now in the world. I find it incredibly hopeful, and I enjoy the ending. Deborah Blau is now of the world and has given away her fictional world in her mind (Yr, which I will not go into. It is confusing and is meant to be, you are not meant to understand Yr as Deborah does.) to finally enter the world as herself and be a part of it. The book ends well, I enjoyed it a lot, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of first-hand accounts of mental illness and recovery.
Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★

Okay my turn
Envy is well aware of the danger that came/comes with interacting with the mafia, but gets a crazy power trip knowing she has them behind her and how far she's come without them messing with her.
Ava plays up the pink barbie persona and is really only mildly interested in the aesthetic. Would rather see Oppenheimer.
Sunday has a list, whether in a physical book or in her head, of all the people she has wronged or hurt in the past and one day hopes to make amends when she's either in a better headspace or times are dire.
Sunday wants to add a cursed doll to her collection of trinkets
Tumblr's tried to stop me from answering this ask like 10 times now but god damnit it'll be different this time.
Envy hates that she interacted with Muratori and Co. and wants to put as much distance between her and those unsavory folks as possible. That said, she is proud on how far she's come on her own. 4/10.
Ava's pinkness is a total sham-- but one she pulls off well. She probably saw Oppenheimer (or its in-universe equivalent) in disguise and liked it a bit too much. She's fascinated by different interpretations of the apocalypse, since she 'knows' how it'll go down. 10/10.
Sunday doesn't list those she's hurt until a stint in rehab forces her to. That said, she's well aware of the handful of people she's heavily wronged (Magnus and Skwisgaar, for starters), and flips between wanting to apologize and believing it won't fix anything. 6/10.
If Sunday doesn't have a shelf of cursed dolls, I don't know what to tell you. She's obsessed with cursed objects and locations because she considers herself one. She lives in a 'haunted' house and collects cursed artifacts, so those creepy porcelain babies definitely have a place of honor. 10/10.

Why isn't anyone asking minor league owners to pay for their own venues?
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is in the same situation as so many other cities who have a minor league baseball team. In 2020-2021, Major League Baseball decided to eliminate a number of minor league baseball teams and impose new ballpark standards on every city with a team. MLB laid out a deadline for all upgrades to be finished before the 2025 season. What needed to be done to satisfy these…

YOU LOST YOUR AIRPODS IN THE CHIP AISLE???? Was it like a momentary loss? Noticed they were gone, went back, found them? Or did they disappear from the chip aisle never to be seen again?
I lost them in the chip aisle twice.
So, like. The story is this: I kept my AirPods in the outside pocket of my old bag. That pocket, incidentally, is also the place where I kept my work keys for my old job, so more often than not I forgot to zip it back.
My brother and I had gone to the store to get stuff for sandwiches & chips and when I bent over to get a variety pack of chips, the AirPod case slipped out of the unzipped pocket, fell on the floor, and the AirPods went flying in two different directions
That first time, I was only able to recover one earbud, even though we spent like 30 minutes in that aisle looking for it. I rectified that situation with my credit card, which might be a little irresponsible but I justified it to myself because I worked in an open office at my old job and needed wireless, noise-cancelling headphones to drown everyone else out so I could focus and I wasn't allowed over-the-ear ones.
For a few weeks, I got really good about double-checking that the zipper to that little pocket was closed. But I got distracted one day like two months later, I didn't check, and it happened again.
The same aisle of the same exact grocery store, the same bend-over-AirPod-case-falls-out scenario. That time, we were able to recover both of them, and thank God for that, because I wouldn't have been able to justify another replacement to myself. I felt guilty enough about the first time.
Ever since the second time, my brother won't let me get out of the car with my AirPods anywhere on my person and even when he knows I left them in the car, he won't let me go down the chip aisle.
It's so bad that if his kids accompany us to the store and I go near the chips, they're like, "Ohhh, Aunt [Dessie], you know you're not supposed to be on this aisle! I'm telling!"
I'm not gonna say that it's unwarranted or that I'm undeserving of it, but two years without an incident should mean something
#nani asks#greenberg replies#rl shit#i'm at least 98% sure there's a post somewhere on my blog of when it happened but i don't feel like looking for it rn#so a quick rehash it is

everyone for the mask ban somehow got picked to go during the first round of speaking, this had to have been choreographed. I think they thought they'd speed through this and not even have to hear from people who opposed the ban.
