Hearing her question Jay stopped and slowly turned to face his wife. He'd thought she had missed that but apparently she had been paying closer attention than he thought she had been. At least there was no one else nearby to overhear. Just Hailey.

"They said they have some information to share. They want to meet."

well, that's a loaded question. one charlie probably wouldn't have the spoons or the self - awareness to answer on any other day, but this one? on this day, charlie isn't charlie. not the charlie that the gang knows, anyways. no, he's clad in his best button - down shirt and tie, sporting a briefcase filled with notes ( read: drawings ).

"uh oh," he begins, dropping the briefcase onto the surface that separates himself and the detective with a theatrical thump, "that's, like . . . that's a solid question. that's good. that's cool. but i'm afraid i'm gonna have to, like . . . plead the fifth or whatever." he insists, taking a moment to sift through his 'notes' with furrowed brows.

"charlie kelly. i'm kinda a lawyer. i specialize in bird law, so . . . kinda a big deal if i'm dragged in here, right? the birds are in trouble." he introduces himself, finally pulling out a piece of paper that reads: CAT K LUV BIRD. handing it to the detective, he nods enticingly towards his outstretched hand.

"there's everything you need to know about me and my work. super serious stuff." he states, free hand falling to his hip. "now what's this i hear about my client being asked shit about, like . . . murder? that's crazy, dude!"

the words sound almost awed as they fall from @greekdonut's lips, and were alex not quite so annoyed overall? she might find it in her to be offended.

"i thought you were going to take a swing at her there,"

head's turned just so, hair falling just enough to cover her eyes - detectives, they're all like this, aren't they? ha. hands resting on her hips, alex shakes her head, every biting response she can think of managing to die on the tip of her tongue.

"i wasn't," is the most she manages, in the moment at least, "i thought about it for half a second, but she wasn't worth the hassle,"

"uh... hey," she's a little sheepish as she attempts to get @greekdonut's attention, but... that's nothing new. abby's still waiting for hailey and jay to decide she's more trouble than she's worth, so anything she can do to not stir up waves is in her best interest as far as she's concerned. "it's picture day at school tomorrow and i don't have anything all that nice to wear. jay, uh, he suggested i borrow something from you. i said i'd ask, but it's totally fine if you say no, i get it,"

Even after everything that Hank had done to them, everything he had put them through, Jay had still tried his damn hardest to save the man's life, to do what he could to keep him alive until help arrived. He'd even risked his own life to save Hank's and why? After everything the man had done and put him through. Because Jay Halstead was a better man then Hank Voight. But still the guilt ate at him. He blamed himself.

He stood, covered in Hank's blood, watching as the body bag containing the older man's body was now loaded into the ambulance. He wasn't really aware of his surroundings, his eyes not leaving the black body bag until the doors of the ambulance closed with a loud slam.

He looked like hell, covered in all that blood, none of it his own, but no one else knew that yet but him. He turned to find Hailey there, and of course she could tell what he was thinking, knew what he was feeling. She was his wife and his best friend and knew him better than anyone except for maybe his other best friends and part of Jay's unit, also on the scene but they hung back, knowing Hailey stood a better chance of reaching him now than even they did.

"I should have done more." He said, even though deep down he knew that he had done all he could. It just hadn't been enough.
