i think houses want to love the people living in them and when you buy a house you don't want to live in just to rent it out on airbnb it makes the house sad. gives the house abandonment issues. you have ripped out the poor thing's soul! nobody who stays in the house will ever love it again because it's not a home to anyone anymore - it's being treated as nothing more than a thing to be used, no different than an empty shell! everyone the house ever meets will leave it behind in a few days and nobody will ever pour any Life and Heart into the place again. no bedroom walls painted a favorite color, nobody tending to a little garden in the backyard or beloved plants indoors, no familiar schedules and people coming home to where they're truly comfortable... stop! stop!! you are killing the poor thing...!!!
#staying in cousin's family's airbnb house right now and i don't know how to describe the feeling of this place other than “the house is sad”#a house wants to be a home and it wants to be loved#.pdf#rd#the economic effects of the mass purchasing of houses to gut and use as vacation rentals also aren't great but that's a different beast

Tell us a secret you never told anyone!
I don’t really keep secrets personally because of how open I am in person and how willing I am to talk about absolutely anything, but as far as having things I’ve never told anyone?
Ive told a few people but I’m definitely a reincarnation and I am absolutely not coming back here again 🤣
#I must have known I’d be in a great place of privilege or something or lucky because life has been pretty amazing so far#so this must be a vacation#but to come back again? NO lol#anons#asks

History of Statehood Day in Tennessee
Statehood Day in Tennessee marks the state’s entry into the Union in 1796 as the 16th state. Its journey to statehood began earlier, in 1790, when Tennessee became the Southwest Territory.
Under Governor William Blount, the territory aimed to meet the population requirement of 60,000 free male residents to gain statehood.
By 1795, a census revealed that the Southwest Territory had met this requirement. Tennessee then petitioned Congress for statehood, a bold move inspired by its people’s resilience and desire for representation.
On June 1, 1796, Congress approved Tennessee’s petition, marking a significant milestone in the state’s history.
Statehood Day celebrates Tennessee’s rich history and the bold vision of its founders. Today, it reminds people of Tennessee’s contributions to American culture and politics, showcasing its vibrant heritage.
The day brings together Tennesseans to celebrate their shared history and future.

30 June: I get sick. Hacking cough, snotty nose, nausea, the works.
2 July: Mr. Geeky and Mars get sick. Both experience minor coughing. Mr. Geeky has some nausea.
5 July: Mr. Geeky and Mars are no longer sick.
7 July: I am still sick. No nausea but much snot and coughing and sinus pressure.
8 July: Mr. Geeky tells me that if I hadn't been sick first, his symptoms were so mild he wouldn't even have noticed that he was sick.
9 July: I murder my husband. It is difficult, what with all the snot and coughing, but it had to be done.
10 July: I am still sick.

#this vacation was really mid#I’m glad I got myself out of the city#but this place really should be done in a day trip#the food didn’t blow me away but every meal even breakfast was $30+#I spent the whole time going in and out of shops which I guess is fun but I don’t get a sense of place#there wasn’t anything meaty except the art museum#which was great but it took an hour#this proves I really need to plan out vacations I guess#I’m still glad I did it. I got better sleep in that hotel than I have in months at home#and even tho my feet are destroyed the walking was good exercise I guess#I’m so ready to get home and not move for a while#honestly tho I respect the whole ‘reject chain stores’ ethos#but there is literally nowhere to go and just sit down inside without having to buy something#that’s one good thing about Starbucks and caffe Nero.#they’re exploitive chains but unfortunately aside from libraries they’re as close to third spaces as you can get#my desperate quest for somewhere to chill led me to a cafe that I thought was a coffee shop#but that apparently was next door#so I had another $25 meal cause I decided to just go w the flow#ugh#an hour to the ferry#I want to be home

Some Fun Kariio 15-R features:
-80°C is warm (the average is -95°C, which is -203°F just ftr)
snowdrifts that conceal 100+ meter sinkholes.
wild animals that can mimic the sound of someone crying for help and will do so with purpose to lure you into a trap so they can attack and eat you.
every fauna and flora on the planet will be capable of killing you. there is no animal on kariio that wouldn't be willing and wanting to eat you.
when it isn't storming or snowing and the sky is actually clear, the suns will reflect off the snow SO BRIGHTLY that you'll probably just go blind if you go outside without eye protection.
when the two moons align, the pull of the tides becomes so strong it can break the crust of the ice that forms over the ocean during the cold season. however, the ice sheet of Xaozakon (The Sanguine Sea, the eastern sea) is a lot thicker and just generally bigger so it won't happen as severely as it does in Vekelera, (The Shattered Sea, the west sea) where the ice sheet re-shatters every time
areas with thicker sheets of permaice will have the frozen bodies of kariians past encased within, making the area where they're visible a macabre sort of natural museum. some of the kariians here are kariians that have long since evolved and no longer exist outside of their ice prisons.
in the Gnar-Vatash, this is done to enemies on purpose. basically the equiv of having a bunch of enemies impaled on spikes (which also happens here! on ice spikes) in front of your castle to ward off enemies.
the entire world is mildly radioactive. in conjunction with the storms, which are frequently geomagnetic, a lot of conventional tech will just not work here, especially things navigation-related.
because of the radiation and the bio-modifications done by the Zehen-Khasiik, all the life on Kariio evolves/mutates at an accelerated rate. evolution can happen over the course of a single lifetime because of how unpredictable and wild kariian DNA is now. even if you are not kariian and you only visit the planet, if you don't die because of a weak resistance to radiation (not even including the cold), you might mutate a bit.
gigantic ice-worms that tunnel through the rock of the underground. frequently kariians will repurpose the tunnels these ice-worms make for their own gain. they use a certain frequently of vibration to keep them from disrupting their settlements.
some of these ice-worms have been "domesticated" and lightly modified, and Zehen-Khasiik and Vedex-Zekhurr (underground variant of the Zehen-Khasiik) will climb inside them, willingly letting the worm 'eat' them, and then proceed to use the worm as a means of transportation from one place to another. like a fucked up train but it's alive and the train car is its insides. this is in large part because tech is not reliable due to planetary interference, not the way an animal that evolved to adapt to it is. they will use tech to make the worms regurgitate them back up though.
fungi that will give you the worst trip of your fucking life if you eat even a tiny little bit of it without cooking it properly. will make any shroom on Earth seem pathetic by comparison. in combination with Kariio, it's pretty easy to get yourself killed if you're tripping.
#LOCALE: KARIIO 15-R.#great place to vacation#ZEHEN KHASIIK; THE BEASTS THAT DWELL WITHIN THE PLAGUELANDS.#WORLDBUILDING.

A friendly reminder that if you see urban exploration videos with "abandoned" houses that are in suspiciously good condition with "everything left behind" it's probably not abandoned and the "explorers" are just breaking and entering and ransacking the place for views :):):)
#if this sounds really specific it's cause it IS#some fuckers destroyed a friend's vacation home#filmed the whole house and their personal belongings#and doxxed the address for more fuckers to come and wreak the place and squat#for fucking views :):)#literally the video has millions of views#and they've been robbed multiple times#urban exploration#urbex#tik tok#youtube#urban explorers#surveillance culture#tik tok is a cancer#paranormal investigation#ghost hunting#police are great and helpful and nice to victims :):)

It's like when someone says something that you don't agree with but don't know specific facts to really be able to disagree (?) and also do not want to get into a debate
#I have had 2 people now in the past year say positive stuff about america (US specifically) that makes it sound like it's#still the ideal 'american dream' type place. And I think maybe perhaps that isn't true??#Specifically one of these was about tuition for university in the US and I was told that even though it's so high#they get paid more than almost everywhere else for the same job so it evens out with being able to pay it off after graduating#And I was like. I think maybe that is not true?? There is a big student debt problem there??#And also being like saying Canada isn't great right now because rents are so high from being bought for vacation rentals and businesses#and with grocery costs being insanely high. And like yes but also that is the exact same in the US too?? And also many many many other#places??#Not trying to hate on the US but what I'm saying is that apparently the 'american dream' mindset still seems to be true in some people's#minds and I am like. I think perhaps Not. Perchance

"Maybe the amount of extraordinary things that happen in your life depends on what you notice."
[Which, of course, is easier when one is on vacation and happens to stay at one of the, imho, most beautiful places in existence]
#vacation time#the chaos talks#our stay had some ups and downs (mostly due to people being people meaning there's always potential for conflicts)#but all in all it was wonderful to enjoy the peace and quiet and the wonderful countryside and the amazing food#even the car ride was rather peaceful#we listened to some audio books and enjoyed watching the landscape change as we passed through#lots of 'nothing' to look at#also the ocean was very cold (it's the Atlantic - i didn't really expect anything different) but swimming in it was still very nice#the biggest downside was the huge wildfire that happened to be not that far away from my aunt's place where we stayed#that was really scary#all because some idiots thought having a barbecue in the middle of summer when everything is bone-dry would be a good idea#thanks guys you just caused ~7.000 hectares of land to burn down just so you could have your steak. great job.#july 2023#august 2023
