I need an AU where Jason writes Gravity Falls fanfiction, except it's a crossover and he writes about 'this strange little town he visited once and has weird ass history'.

A lot, though not all, of his fics of Gravity Falls are crack treated seriously because Gravity Falls is just Like That and writing about people marrying woodpeckers would never not be fun.

Sometimes he likes to write supernatural mysteries or supernatural slice of life or drama. He has a fic about the multibear's life (based on a story the bear told him once) that is written like him resembling his life while waiting for someone to show up/something to happen, and no one knows what's that. It's his most popular fic, which he still doesn't know what to think about.

The multibear loves it tho. He comments every single chapter.

Batfam! On the majority. I've written quite a few BBC Merlin ones as well, and there's a Gravity Falls one roaming around somewhere. I'm hoping to write for the Ninjago fandom too and I already have a Danny Phantom wip too

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

My School’s Local Mafia Boss (expected, i'm still so proud of this one) Sometimes You Have To Find Your Own Genes (also expected, because of the multiple chapters thing, it appears more and more and its also one of my very first ones on here!) Phone Alarms (I love how it makes everyone laugh ^^) The Client (I was not expecting this one lol, dunno why, but it's a cute thing) Greet Me With Open Arms (makes sense because it's a composition of everyone's prompts in one fic!)

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yeah!! I used to reply to every single one, but as time went on, I got more burnt out and more and more busy cuz school became more and more harder. So I'm taking A While to get to comments cuz I don't have the energy and time, and though I read and love and snuggle the short comments too, I don't answer them nowadays unless I have the energy to at the time

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I write so many sweet endings, I'm not entirely sure. In my opinion, true happy endings in stories are the result of what has gone down in the plot. So based on the plot and the results it has given in the end, I'd say it's either Loving In And Against A Storm or Let Them Be Family. Because the characters really deserved the ending.

Nope.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Depends on the crossover. My very very first fic (not on ao3, on wattpad ugh) was a crossover between DC and Marvel lol. I haven't written any crossovers right now, but I have a Danny PhantomxDC one where Danny meets Tim while he's searching for Bruce.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yeah, actually. It was my wattpad one. Idrc about that, but I haven't found any of my ao3 ones stolen (thank God), and if I do, I'm going to be tearing someone apart with my teeth.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, I'm afraid. I've had people leave comments in other languages on my fics, so I suppose there are people who have been translating the page to read it which makes me very honored ^^ and it makes me want to translate a fic myself too if not for the fact that I'm bullshit at my other languages just as I am with English lol

Broken But Not Beyond Repair is something Sprite, Vibey @foursixtwonineoh-pieces-of-lego and I scribbled around on tumblr reblogs then Evie graciously made it into an actual fic and posted it on ao3, praise be.

Vibey and I also have a batfam DEH AU collecting dust in our foldes. I also employed Tristi's help and @tireddruid in a 60 fucking chapters of a Merlin fic which isn't going to be written in a LONG ASS WHILE. @mispeltnostalgia is supposed to be looking at a de-aged Tim fic with me, but her role has become a beta/alpha reader role and I'm attending to other wips rn.

So yeah! I know for some people writing together isn't their cup of tea, and that's understandable lmao. I personally I love writing fics with people. It's... it's kind of a love language for me? It's much fun seeing how our writing styles meld together but are also distinct enough that you can still spot it. I also love the clash that explodes into a google doc with pages and pages of us ranting about ideas and plots in different colors texts. It's so cool.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

Ahhh. Idk tbh. Any WIPs i have, I am hell-bent on finishing them until I have. And if I can't I just toss them in the scrap pile and never look at again. So idk if I have a wip I want to finish but won't.

Although the 60 fucking chapters of Merlin looks very appealing to abandon. But no. I've done too much work on it to just forget about it, unfortunately. I've worked too hard.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Right now, I'm feeling very down and flat and not finding any strengths at all 😭

It's been months since I've written an actual fic cuz I went on a break recently and I'm like... how do i- how do I write. how do I. words? where words?

In all seriousness though, I believe I can come up with Plots. I'm a mystery fan, so any fics I write, I make sure to have character motivations, purpose, plot, drive, foreshadowing, characterization, reasoning, etc. in it. Even in a oneshot. Even if all the literary devices are used in a shallow way, I use them. I like my stories having a purpose or a lesson to them. I can't write something which doesn't have one or both. I've also been called out /pos on my attention to detail. Sure, yes, some things do slip by. I am human after all. But yeah, on the most part, I like tightening all loose threads ^^

And I think dialogue's one as well. Because when I write, I actually picture everything I type in my head. So my writing is pure grains of imagination on paper :D, it's the only way I know how to write tbh. Which is why I struggle so much with reading or writing analytical stuff which sucks bc, school.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

EVERYTHING 😭

Well, right now anyway. I'm still recovering from burnout and mental breakdowns.

But there are weaknesses in my strengths. My dialogue can get lost sometimes and soon you'll be staring at just half a page of just dialogue. Or sometimes, I read back and realize that the dialogue I've written has no context and only makes sense to me.

I lack description in my settings and appearances. I struggle to describe things which are plainly obvious but aren't as obvious to the reader. Because of the whole imagination thing, the things that need description are all in the background, so when I write, I mostly assume that the backgrounds have already been established, so readers are left with faceless feelings most of the time. I'm practicing though! I'm practicing and I think I'm getting better at it!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

I love adding representation of my culture and identity everywhere I go. My fics have Muslim characters and poc characters who speak Arabic, mostly. I'm also working on adding bits of Mandarin (thanks to lovely @birdybat who's helping me with that) in my current wip and hopefully in future wips as well. I know I've added Urdu and Hindi to previous fics which are not on ao3. But yeah! I love adding bits of cultural representation everywhere!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Marvel and DC lol. The crossover.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY TF WOULD YOU ASK ME TO CHOOSE BETWEEN MY BABIES?

The most work I've put into a fic is Let Me Die, Let Me Drown, Lay My Bones In The Ground. I put tons and tons of work in it and reread after reread after rereads. I had Sprite, Tristi and Joan look over some parts and reread it too so it would be perfect. Every little detail is present in it and as you read for a second or even third time, you'll find more and more hidden details and symbolism present in it, like-

Literally. There are so many tiny details which all lead up to the final conclusion at the end and it all connects with the overarching theme and the purpose and the moral and lesson and comes together for the conclusion and I just-

I put a lot of work into it. only to get a couple hate comments on it Soooo, yeah :)

Hiya Angel!! For Fanfic Writer Friday, I was wondering if you've ever had an AU idea that you've always wanted to write for, but have never gotten around to! It can be for any fandom :>

And that’s a good question. I’ve had a couple throughout different fandoms throughout the years.

For Rwby I wanted to write an AU where it was set during the Great War times where Ozpin was drafted to fight in said war, there is Dadpin in it and it was all purely based on a song I heard off of Tik Tok.

There was another AU for Rwby I wanted to write a fic for where it’s basically a crossover for with Rwby and His Dark Materials where everyone has an animal companion. I write a post on it but I never wrote a fic for it sadly. It was just too much for me to think about 🥲 even though the concept is fascinating.

There was an AU I wanted to write for Gravity Falls where instead of Ford falling through the Portal it’s Stanley. I never wrote for it due to the fact others had beat me to it 😂

There was an AU I wanted to write for where Jason Todd from Batman has Marie Antoinette syndrome. I have it written out an everything like how it effects him both mentally and physically but I just kinda forgot to write it and now I just don’t have time even though I love the concept.

I was wondering if maybe you have some favorite dick grayson centric fanfics you could share?? (I love your writing, so I thought you'd you'd probably have some great fic recs!) P.S. loving the story you currently have in the works! (The quiet ones)

I hope I don’t disappoint you here, but I unfortunately don’t think I’m actually that well-versed in fic! the only times I do have the time and focus to read I tend to stick to what my friends and mutuals rec me, or what comes across my dash. 

that being said I do have a few that come to mind! I just don’t know where they fall in terms of people already having read them. these recs err towards plotty, and I’m fairly certain all of them are gen, but of course still check tags.

the first one I have to mention would be declensions by @dustorange - all of her writing is exquisite but that one in particular is perhaps the most enthralling and beautifully detailed robin origin story I’ve ever read. you will not be disappointed.

there is an anonymously published story called earth-27 you may have to go digging for that is a. ingeniously plotted and b. beautifully written, dealing with the consequences of knowing about the multiverse, though last I checked I think it was only two or three chapters in. 

lowflyingfruit has written some lovely and well-built aus, of which the art of the bird metaphor (a talon au series featuring some wholesome titans, a baby jason, and a kickass solo babs) I have read multiple times.  @the-imaginative-fox I know has some wonderful pieces that I sadly have not had the chance to get through all of since she’s such a prolific writer! but of what I have read, I adored like brothers on a hotel bed, which has some great dick & bruce reconciliation dynamics.

finally the only other one that comes to mind is the gravity series by mizufallsfromkumo I read forever ago. it is a wip series about dick gaining meta powers, and it’s really solidly built in terms of the mystery of how he got them, bringing in friends and enemies from both gotham and the yj verse titans, and exploring the whole meta deal.

Hello everyone!!! I have a fluff request I’m working on at present, but until I finish that, have some random AU ideas from my notes that I might turn into full fledged fics one day! He laughs, sending chills down Jason’s spine. “What? You want me to apologize? To say I’m sorry? I can’t. I can’t feel sorry, I can’t feel guilty, I can’t feel anything. Isn’t that the whole point? They took everything from me, and there’s nothing left but me, a parasite dancing in a dead man’s skin. You want me to say I love you? Guess what Jason, I don’t.”

Sex with Dick is animalistic desperation, it is biting and clawing, kicks and punches transitioning into kisses and thrusts just as violent. Every time he throws his clothes back on and leaves, he sees Dick’s fragile and bruised heart break a bit more. Sex with him is benediction, salvation, the feeling of which Jason hasn’t experienced since he’d first donned the R and matching pixie boots. It makes him love and hate Grayson in equal measure.

He’s lifted into a guard's arms. He reaches a hand to grab Bruce, to have someone to catch him when he fell. For a moment he bathes in the fantasy that Bruce is alive, and his corpse is a gag. Everyone is up and fighting, and Bruce raises his hand up, urging his protege to join him. To help him win. The hand never moved. There is no net to catch him when he falls.The cowl falls into a red haze, disappearing as Dick approached what he knows is his end. This is the end. He's fought his whole life. He'd fought against Zucco when he got justice for his parents death. He'd fought against Joker when he killed the clown for Jason. He'd fought against Deathstroke when he'd threatened Damian's life. He'd fought against his own blood and Destiny when the time came. He....He...He... He doesn’t have any fight left in him. He has nothing left to fight for.

Sometimes he hated Bruce, hated that he’d left him. Hated that he’d abandoned him. Other times he just wanted his father back

If he ignores the cold pixilation of the hologram, he can almost pretend Jason is still there, still alive.

For a moment, just a moment, Dick thinks he hates Bruce. Hates his inability to let him go, let him be with Damian

Because he is safe. It didn't matter how far he falls into darkness, as long as Grayson is always there to catch him.

Dick turns his back to the group, pained. “I can’t do this anymore, I can’t be the one to survive and move one every time.”

Sometimes Dick wonders if it’s his never-ending supply of self hatred or his adrenaline addiction that keeps him in the hero business. Batman told him he loved the thrill of Robin-jumping off buildings and bending the laws of physics and gravity like he was beyond them, facing hoarded of men bigger than him, stronger than him, and not knowing if he was going to make it through the night. That’s what kept him in it, but that’s not what made him trade in his leotard for a cape, not in the beginning. Something him and Bruce shared was their aptitude for blaming themselves for every mistake around them, including the deaths of those around him.

He’s perfect at everything he does and sometimes he hates how perfect he is at this.

He never used to believe in poetry or poetic nonsense, but if nothing else changed after his death, at least he did.

It wasn’t blood and broken bones that haunted his nightmares, it was circus colors.

What could one possibly say about life to a person who has already seen the smirk on deaths face

There were nights Jason knew Dick perfectly, intimately. Then there were nights he didn’t know his predecessor at all, catching Dick staring off into the distance looking like he was made of porcelain, heartbreak coloring his eyes and unable to summon any smile.

Jason is still alive, even if it’s only for the moment, even if it’s only in Dicks hallucinations

“I don’t want to be another roadblock on your grand journey to love your fucking soulmate again!” Jason shouts at Dick, red in the face and fuming.

He feels more than anyone else, And anger is an emotion after all.

“If I’m alive, why do I feel so empty? So hollow?”

He’d wanted something that was HIS, only his, no matter how selfish it sounded.

There’s the light at the end of the tunnel, right? The gingerbread house you aren’t supposed to enter, the yellow brick road you aren’t supposed to deviate from. And it’s confusing, because somewhere along the way he changed. And he doesn’t think he likes the end result.

Loneliness comes to him more naturally than he’s willing to admit. Perks of being a vigilante, I suppose.

I have 118 fics on AO3.

Now, some of those are longer than others, and I’m largely a oneshot writer, but that’s a lot of fics. I was curious what the breakdown of that number was year to year, since in 2016 I basically stopped writing and posting art, and I thought I’d share that answer with you guys. (As a bonus, I’ll share my favourite fic from each year just for funsies. Even some old old old ones.)

This got long, so actual stats/faves under the cut.

2012: 12 fics! (An interesting factor here is that I joined the archive in July, so this is 12 in about five months rather than over a whole year.)

Fave fic: “I’m the Doctor - basically, RUN!”  obviously a Doctor Who fic, it’s a companion character study. Before my fic naming skills really developed. 

2013: 46 fics. Peak Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus time, but this was also the year of the 130 Night Vale ficlet August.

Fave fic: Because I Knew You, the Percy Jackson/Heroes Wicked AU. Featuring Percy as Glinda, Nico as Elphaba, Annabeth and Jason as Fiyero, Hazel as Nessa, and Leo as Boq.

2014: 20 fics. 18 of which were PJO/HOO.

Fave Fic: Lucky 13, PJO/HOO - a Nico-Bianca age swap fic

2015: 18 fics. The year of Gravity Falls!

Two faves this year, of about equal ranking:

Falling Hard and the Twin Trade AU that spun off from it, Gravity Falls AU wherein Mabel got sucked into a parallel universe at the end of Not What He Seems

 The Stuff of Legend, one of the only Phineas and Ferb fics I’ve ever written but one of my favourite fics I’ve ever written by far. Post-Act Your Age, the gang’s first year of college.

2016: 2 fics. I wasn’t kidding when I said I pretty much stopped writing.

Fave fic: Supersonic, a post Trials of Apollo 1 revamp of a PJO fic from 2014. (The other fic this year paired with this one.)

2017: 8 fics, enter Star vs the Forces of Evil and Ducktales.

Fave fic: break my fall, SVtFoE - a Star character study written after the season 2 finale. My 100th fic on AO3!

2018: 3 fics. An odd mixed bag of fics, too.

Fave fic: Finding Marlin, 3700 words of complete self-indulgence. The only fic I’ve ever written for Finding Nemo, has probably no audience outside of myself, and I’m okay with that. It’s a human AU, because they’re fish.

2019: 9 fics, with two months to go! I think I’m getting back in my groove a bit!

Fave fics (two again, because I can’t choose):

come stop your crying, a revisit to an old PJO/HOO concept after I reread my favourite Heroes book. At 5600 words it’s the longest thing I’ve written in a while.

until I’m home again, obviously one of my most recent Ducktales fics. Just a sweet little story about Donald and his kids.

So that’s the breakdown! I don’t know what 2013 me was doing to write 46 fics but I really wish I could recapture it. That said I’ve been writing a lot more lately so hopefully, maybe I’m getting some of that momentum back.

One of the cool things about going back through and pulling out old faves was that I actually still like a lot of my older fics. Not all of them, but a lot. And even the ones I don’t like, I know I’ve grown a lot from writing.

2. Whatis your latest fandom?

My latestfandom is Batman in terms of fic. There’s a wealth of reading material in it,and it is almost perfectly suited to my preference for brothers-relatedmaterial. There are also some very very very good writers to be found, and I’menjoying being able to consume in a large scale again, at least when I’m notsick of reading due to work.

3. Whatis the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

In termsof “this is my ideal place and I am never leaning,” absolutely Thunderbirds. It’salso a… very small fandom, and for a choosy consumer such as myself, that’sbeen a serious problem over the last year or two, what with the departure of alot of my favorite writers. Nevertheless, the world and the characters have embeddeddeep in my heart, and I’ll always be around somewhere in the fandom in one iterationor another.

5. Whichfandoms have your written fanfiction for?

A few! Ihave published fics for TRON: Legacy, Assassin’s Creed, FFVII, Star Wars, Sherlock,Thunderbirds, FFXV, and VLD.

As far asentirely unpublished fandoms… I have an enormous Merlin AU completelyoutlined, but I only wrote snippets of it. Too bad, because it was going to beSO GOOD. Alas, I am no good with monster projects, so it languishes, probablyforever. Unless I post the outline here. Hmm. I could do that…

7. Listyour NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.

Oh man. Well.Let’s see. Automatically anything incest or slash, they’re just not my mug ofpomegranate juice. Other than that, I’m relatively fluid when it comes topairings and tend to go in for anything that’s well-written and has dynamicsthat are to my taste, so I rarely hit upon pairings that make me nope entirely out.I tend to just not care about anything that doesn’t strike my fancy.

11. Whois your current OTP?

As notedabove, I am not a hardcore shipper. Favorite pairings come and go depending onmood and whether they’ve become boring due to overuse/overexposure/passage oftime or not. If I had to pick, I’d say I still default to Scott/Penny, though,because I’m still writing ’em.

13. Goon, who are your BroTPs?

17. Whatship have you written the most about?

I am stillinfluenced a ton by TOS, so as of the last five years, it’s Scott/Penny. They’rethe ultimate power couple, both heirs to enormous fortunes, and let’s face it:they look incredible on each other’s arm. The dynamics are lovely between them,very arch, very clever, and finding ways to make them relax around one anotheris just genuinely my favorite.

19. Anyships which you surprised yourself by liking?

Nyx/Araneafrom FFXV came out of the blue. I think I saw someone had written it once duringone of my only glances at the fandom’s AO3 section, and it lodged in my brain. Imean. I’ve read exactly one (1) fic for them and have written an equal numberof fics with them, and I don’t really think about them on my own time nowadays,but they did click with me, at least very briefly. I also super wasn’texpecting to like Shiro/Allura from VLD, but they touched hands in S2, and Idid that little flappy hand thing and made The Noise, and I knew I was InTrouble.

23. Whatfic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?

See, I dothis thing. Where once I’ve posted a fic, I am disinclined to reread it withoutsome serious—usually external—prompting. Not because I hate it! But because I’vejust moved on to new ideas—that one has had all the hooks it had in my brainreleased by way of posting the story, and I don’t need to think about it anylonger. I’m not very interested in rewriting old material, although last week Idid reread Three Towels and a Tracy for the first time in a couple years, and Imade a few tiny tweaks to the AO3 version for improved readability. I edit soheavily while I initially write a story, though, that I really don’t leavemyself much room for editing/rewriting at a late date.

Arealistic answer would be “probably the first ten or so stories I posted becauseI know So Much More about writing, especially the technical elements, now thanI did then, and there are undoubtedly many missing/misplaced commas int them.”

29. Whatinspires you to write?

Sometimesit’s vivid mental images that I Must Put Into Words (an upcoming FFVII story);sometimes a piece of art or a song compels me to put words down. Imagery is abig thing in my writing, so it tends to be something visual that sparks aproject, although occasionally combinations of words just *sing* to be put downsomewhere. Truth told, I write for SS and no one else, so yeah, she’s myinspiration.

31. Doyou listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which bandor genre of music does it for you?

Music inand of itself rarely inspires me these days, with one notable exception, but I dousually listen to it while writing. Anything instrumental gets at least tried,but I lean toward film/game/TV scores (Hans Zimmer yaaaaaasssss), smooth jazz, epicproduction music, and some electronic music. If music is too much for onereason or another, I will pull up a soundscape generator—myNoise is amazing; I’vebeen all over the Black Hole soundscape recently—and let that run on animatefor an hour or two.

37. Doyou use established canon characters, or do you create OCs?

I alwaystry to write canon characters unless it’s necessary to create a person for aspecific scenario. OCs can be hard to connect with unless you’re very good at makingreaders care, so they’re a bit risky. I know I prefer to read about canoncharacters, though, so that drives my thinking when I create plots/scenarios.

@preludeinz is just… one of the best writers you’re ever going to find. The way she’sable to take literally any scenario or characters and make them interestingbaffles me even years into knowing her, and you will not find a better writer todescribe clothing. She’s as brilliant at handling character interactions as sheis at describing lasagna food. Also, her dialogue is A++

lurkinglurkerwholurksis another complete package. Everything about their writing is engaging andfeels so polished, and they have an enviable ability to capture characters’ voices.I’m constantly blown away by the quality of their work, and I’m waiting withbated breath for the next chapter of Nature and Nurture.

@headspacedad writes some of the best stream of consciousness I’ve encountered. The firstchapter of their story Falling took my breath away, and subsequent updatescontinue to knock the air out of me. Writing a character who’s lost a primarysense is no easy feat, but they make it incredibly easy, and indeed the storyis so rich with details that it’s 100% better that way.

If youwant a writer who’s going to challenge you with each chapter, each scene, eachparagraph, each sentence, pollywantsa is absolutely the writer for you. I’mperhaps a tiny bit traumatized by one particular work, but in general every storyis worth reading. There’s a sense of weight to each piece, a gravity that goesbeyond fandom trappings and sinks into your very bones, lives like mercury inthe bottoms of your lungs, dragging you down into the unshakable truths that areinescapably human. Real people make wrong decisions, destroy other people orthemselves; they are crude and profane and selfish and so very beautiful intheir imperfections, and polly will remind you of that with each tone-perfectword they’ve laid down.

Roundingout the list is @velkynkarma. Unusual stories and unique situations that I neverwould have considered reading are some of my favorite stories because of VK’sskill at finding the engaging threads to pull into the light. Space mouse vsCoran? Amazing. Keith + space mouse shenanigans? Incredible. Zarkon + eldritchhorror? Terrifying but so engaging. Slav and Sven AU? Worthy of popcorn. Heapsof Shiro angst? Sign me up. The high quality of both storytelling and technicalskill are not to be missed, and every new story and chapter updated is a TREAT.

43. Whatship do you feel needs more attention?

Uh… I’mnot sure tbh. I’m not a “shipper,” and I tend to read gen fic as a wholesalerule. I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more Virgil/Penny, I guess?

47. Doyou leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/why not?

Mmmm.See. This is the thing I’m trying to get better about. Because I tend to go ALLIN when I comment and drop a solid 300–500 words, and that takes time, even ifthe words are flowing. I find it hard to write something more modest, because Iknow exactly how much I drool over the writers who leave me enormous comments,and I want to give them the same feelings. I tend to only comment whensomething has truly moved me, especially since I’ve tried to move on from the unasked-forcritique-style reviews. Maybe one day I’ll find a happy middle ground.
