Alright, after a talk on Friday with my boss and the other department head I was supposed to start in the other department this coming tuesday
Which was FINE but I was still upset because I just recently started feeling like "home" in my cureent department, and everything went way too quick, plus I was kinda doubting myself whether it was maybe actually about my performance and not just the overall situation, so then I talked to some coworkers to explain what was going on and that it was my last day with them and I started crying
Coworkers told me it was DEFINITELY NOT about my performance and that everyone had been giving positive feedback about me, and that I was definitely part of the team and that I was MORE THAN WELCOME to join back when I got to work in full-time
And THEN one coworker had an idea how he could tie me into his team in a way where things could still work out. He talked to the boss and boss talked to me
So yeah. Now I'll stay in my current department for a while, and they'll see if things work out this way. Also my boss explained to me that he had been worried because I wanted to do my bachelor's thesis on something that has nothing to do with my workplace. And since I've been struggling with the topic I had chosen so far anyways I'll probably do something with them instead
Hhhnnnggggghghhhh boss told me they're not renewing my contract at work

I recently saw this video by Nick Crowley called "The Darkest Kids TV Show Ever Made" about the show "Life With Grandpa", which was a kid's show created by the cult The Family International, and when he talks about how the cult's creator David Berg raised his adopted son Ricky Rodriguez, I suddenly thought, "what if Gabriel raised Adrien like this".
wis lore time.... i had a phase in middle school where i was really into researching cults so i know exactly what you mean by The Family Internal, David Berg, Flirty Fishing etc etc etc.
I think it would probably be an interesting exercise to compare Gabriel's parenting + what we can assume about his parenting to Steven Hassan's BITE model (Maybe even compare stuff seen in all of the sentikids' parents?), so I can do that if you guys are interested in it... maybe even in exchange for a little ko-fi donation? I digress.
anyway while i'd hesitate to put in even in the realm of dubious head canon, i do think it's an entirely possible direction. that whole Sarah-Lynn/Björn Andresen sort of early exposure to exploitation and what have you. gabi could totally pull off gregarious cult leader energy too tbh

i posted this on twitter but here's a fanservant design for utnapishtim/ziusudra/atrahasis! copious design notes under the cut
disclaimer its been a hot second since i played babylonia so i dont exactly remember what the deal with him in babylonia was (did he turn out to actually be grandpa hassan. did they meet ziusudra [real] at any point. i dont know) but since im so into mesopotamia i thought i might as well make another design anyway
"why does he look like nemo" he looks like nemo because noah looks like nemo in arcade, and the same story motif (from lb6) that leads nemo to be noah's host [?] body [?] also applies to utnapishtim since utnapishtim and noah most likely are cognates stemming from the same "ur-myth" of the flood
because there are a couple of inverted artifacts from noah's story compared to utnapishtim's (the dove vs. the raven being the bird of significance), i've inverted some of utnapishtim's colors compared to noah. utnapishtim has silver hair compared to noah's warm-toned hair, and the color of their top and bottom is switched
speaking of the raven i didn't draw it but it's utnapishtim's cute mascot thing
a couple of the design motifs are based on either oceanic items or oceanic puns (again because of the flood thing). the fishtail braid is a pun. the gray shoulder sashes are meant to look like fishing nets (this idea was half borrowed from samrem) and are also references to egyptian beaded dress, since there was so much trade between mesopotamia and egypt during some ancient periods
the structure of the waist sashes and pants are half-noah, half-based on that one gilgamesh skin from CCC. the pattern on the teal sash is based on floor tiles from nimrud/assyrian palaces; the color scheme of the other one is meant to look like seafoam
the gold decorations on his chest, in his hair, and on his arms are referenced from a suit of jewelry i saw in a near east artifact exhibit. the shoes are freestyle though (and are sort of like caster gilgamesh's?)
in the epic, gilgamesh finds utnapishtim after going through a garden at the edge of the ocean with plants made of [?] carnelian, hematite, lapis lazuli, etc. and meeting siduri. because of this i wanted to have all three of these specific stones represented (the red, blue, and black)
he is most likely a rider because of the significant role his boat plays in the legend, undecided if his NP is "he who has found life" (translation of his name) or "preserver of life" (the name of his boat). the former sounds cooler but the latter is more direct

The seed for this btw was Magdy introducing Rut to the family and while they wait for the Seniors to talk to them, they actually catch a glimpse of Mohammed (8 years old), playing with his momma. And Magdy makes SURE that both this woman and this child will be treated with the utmost kindness and respect, because they're at the heart of this business and also, the most dignified people Magdy has ever known. So put some respect on that name and be nice to that little boy, understood?
Still need to flesh out the relationship between Mohammed and the other two and Magdy is especially tricky, but I like the idea for all his stubornness, he has a lot of respect for him, because he always had respect for his family. His maternal grandfather, his mother and now Mohammed. It isn't the intense fatherly love Paddy has for his weans nor the also very gentle and involved touch Robin has with the youngins, but Magdy IS fond of Mohammed. He's glad to see what he always found most awe-inspiring, for better and for worse, has survived down the family line, so he will keep laying down his life for it and to ensure that the machine keeps running. He's so dutiful, but now that he saw his boss grow up, there's also a soft twinge that makes him a little fatherly about his duty.

Hetalia/Hunger Games Crossover
I'd originally started this for a friend some years ago, but I lost that friendship and the motivation to write this. It was a behemoth of a concept to start with, which is why I'd decided to rush the beginning and focus mostly on the games. According to the notes I made for this, I didn't actually create most of this cast -- I'd sent my friend vague character notes and asked them to assign a Hetalia character to each one and then built the cast off of that. Which is kind of a cool concept for a gift for a friend, tbh. This was when I was still into Hetalia the first time, so it's actually not Nordic-centric for once. 😅
Below are notes and the beginnings of the idea.
This was written in 2014. (Someone tell me they can tell a difference in my writing from 10 years ago to now. 😭😂)
Happy readings!

The Reaping
I stare around town, standing on my front porch. Light is barely breaching the horizon, dyeing the wispy clouds orange and pink while it casts an eerie glow across the land. A few people are already up -- mainly the miners, along with the butcher and baker -- but I know the rest of the town is trying to avoid the inevitable. The Reaping is today and everyone dreads it. Every year it happens; the same person -- Jakob Sigurdsson -- comes in, all dressed up in his Capitol clothes; two people are picked to represent the District. He always makes it sound like a good thing, something to be proud of, when you’re picked. And for a select few Districts, it is. But we aren’t one of those few and we see the Hunger Games for what they are -- a slaughter.
My District -- District 12 -- is one of the poorest in Panem. Nicknamed the Seam, we produce coal for our country. The entire town always seems to be covered in a thick layer of coal dust, making it look dull and grey. I watch the miners make their daily trek from home to the mines, most carrying lunch-pails but not everyone. All look tired, worn, done. I don’t know what it takes to be a miner, not really. Thought my father was one, I barely remember his schedule and his exhausted face is fading from my memory. Instead of spending all my days in the mine, I get up early to do a different task but one no less important.
I hunt.
Hunting is technically illegal because it’s past our borders that all the animals dwell. But even Peacekeepers want fresh meat and are normally fairly willing to turn a blind eye if they get a cut. So I hunt and trade for other things my family needs.
Slowly, I wander through town, heading for the border. This “border” is just a ten-foot high wire fence with “Caution: Electric” signs posted here and there. And that’s an absolute joke, since our District is lucky to get more than two hours of electricity in the evenings. Still, as I approach the fence, I pause to listen for the hum that means the wire is live. When I’m sure it isn’t, I go to the bushes that hide the weak spot in the fence -- one of many; this one just happens to be closest to home. I crouch down and step through the hole.
Once beyond the fence, I jog to the first line of trees. Coming to the woods is a reprieve. While the town seems to lack color, the woods are full of it. Greens and browns of every shade surround me and I feel okay again. I retrieve my bow and arrows from a hollow log and head deeper into the security of the trees.
“Ludwig!” I turn my head toward the voice and spot my best friend, Feliciano, waving from a small break in the trees to my left. I smile slightly, something I only seem able to do around him now, and wander over to him. “I got something for us!”
“Funny, do did I,” I say, reaching into my pocket for the goat cheese my little brother had left on the table for me early this morning. My little brother, Alarick, owns a goat that I’m grateful for because it means cheese and milk we can either use or trade. Plus, it keeps Alarick busy now and again.
Feliciano beams at me as he produces a loaf of bread from behind his back. “Ta-da! Fresh from the bakery! I traded a squirrel for it!” he explains happily.
I momentarily forget about the cheese, too surprised by this amazing treat, as I take it from him. Most of the bread we make at home is different from the bakery's, being that the Capitol takes most of the wheat for their own bread, leaving oh so little for us. This is real bread; less dense and slightly sweeter. “He must be in a giving mood…” I mutter, my mouth watering. It’s still warm. I reluctantly hand it back.
He rips it in half and gives me a section. I pull out the cheese and we sit down. “Well, I think everyone wants to feel close again,” he muses, nibbling on the bread and cheese. I rip my section in half and pocket a portion, intending to share it with Alarick later. “Considering the day and all…”
“It’s a funny time to desire that,” I mutter, looking around. I spot a bush with some blackberries and stand, going over to collect a handful for us. I offer them to him as I sit again. “I mean, shouldn’t we want to feel that all the time, not just right before a death sentence?”
Feliciano sets a berry on top of a bite of cheese and pops it into his mouth. “Maybe we’re too scared to,” he says finally. “Maybe the idea is normally just too much but, on this day, we forget to be scared of the whole thing because we’re all too scared for ourselves and our families.” He looks at me. “It’s stupid, huh?”
“It’s probably true,” I sigh, picking at the bread. “How many times did you put your name in?”
He looks uncharacteristically upset for a moment, torn between a triumph and a sickening dread, as he admits, “Eighteen.” I gape at him, horrified. “I have my siblings to think about, just like you have Alarick. So how many times did you put yours in?”
I’m reluctant to reply. I feel a bit selfish, now. See, every time you enter your name into the Reaping, your rations temporarily go up. With six other siblings, Feliciano has reason to. But I only have my mother and brother. “Eleven,” I mumble and shove some cheese and a few berries into my mouth.
He laughs, my favorite sound in the world. “We’re horrible. Our chances are so high and we do this every year!” His smile is sad when I look at him. “Let’s just go. Let’s just run and run…”
“And go where?” I ask, wishing more than anything that I could be as optimistic as he is about the idea. But I know there’s nowhere to run.
“Anywhere,” he answers easily. “There’s got to be something else besides here.” He leans back, watching the trees quiver with the slight breeze. “Anything must be better than here…”
I nod thoughtfully. “Probably. But… What about Alarick? And your family? We can’t just leave them…”
He pulls his knees up to his chest and sighs deeply. “I know. We could take them with… Maybe in a few years, when the littlest can run.” He glances at me.
“But, for now, it’s the Reaping day,” I remind him. “And the odds are not in our favor.” The words are a twist on what Jakob always says before he draws names. We look at each other and smile. I almost laugh but the sound doesn’t quite make it to my lips.
x~x
Everyone is gathered in front of City Hall. Even the miners came home early for this. We’re all dressed in our best clothes. THe youngest group of only twelve years stands in the front of the crowd and it goes back until eighteen. Parents and children too young hover behind everyone else nervously. A giant screen has been erected off to the right of the City Hall building. We’re all waiting anxiously for Jakob to step onto the stage. The waiting part of this drives me crazy. They put on a big show just to draw names. Maybe that’s important to other Districts -- like the career Districts -- but for us, it seems like a waste of time. I shift restlessly from one foot to the other, until I bump into the girl next to me and receive a dirty look. But, finally, Jakob waltzes onto the stage and taps the microphone, smiling his tiny smile when we all cringe at the backfeed it gives off. The cameras all start rolling, some on the crowd, others on Jakob.
This year, Jakob is wearing a turquoise-blue suit with gold trim. He’s done up his eyes in a similar fashion, making the dull grey of his irises that much more noticeable. His ever-changing tattoos are gold swirls up his neck and on the sides of his face. He looks ridiculous to me but I know he must be in style in the Capitol because he’d never wear anything less. “Happy Hunger Games,” he purrs into the microphone. “And what a special time. This marks the 75th annual. Exciting, isn’t it?” No one so much as coughs in response. He’s kind of used to this now, though, and his expression doesn’t change. “Let’s go straight to the clip then, shall we? We’ve changed it a bit this year so I suggest you keep your eyes open.” The way his Capitol accent highlights the last part and how his eyes seem to sparkle a bit makes me shiver. I’ve imagined that Jakob had not originally wanted the job he’s got -- doing the Reaping for District 12 and showing the tributes how to live a short Capitol lifestyle. I’ve always thought he probably wanted to be a Game-Maker and the idea that he’d be good at it makes me glad he’s stuck with us.
The clip, a short history of Panam and why the Hunger Games are held, does not seem any different to me. Jakob’s expression changes ever so slightly, causing him to look completely blissed out. When the video ends, he stares back out at the crowd. “I love that. It’s so powerful,” he murmurs, and I’m not entirely convinced that he hasn’t momentarily forgotten the microphone in front of his mouth. “Now,” he says, seeming a bit more alive. “Let us get to what we’ve all been waiting for! Let’s draw some names. And, of course, may the odds be ever in your favor.” Everyone stands a bit taller, more rigid, as he walks to the bubble holding all the names. He spins it twice and the sound echoes. Then he reaches in and pulls out a slip of paper. He moves back in front of the microphone and unfolds it. No one is breathing. “Alarick Glockner,” he announces gleefully and everyone except me lets out a collective sigh of relief.
I stare at the twelve-year olds, picking out the shimmering blond of my brother’s hair easily as he steps forward with a prompt of, “Come on, don’t be shy,” from Jakob. He looks like he’s trembling.
Everything in me shuts down and so I feel nothing as I frantically push through the crowd shouting, “Alarick, no! I volunteer! No! I volunteer!” Peacekeepers try to stop me and I see Alarick look back at me, horror on his face. “I volunteer!” I scream, pushing against the Peacekeepers in an attempt to get to my brother.
Jakob stares at me consideringly. “Let him through,” he says at last and I’m released. I immediately run to Alarick and hug him briefly before passing him to Feliciano, who has appeared just as Alarick is getting hysterical. Still feeling rather numb, I hear Jakob call me forward; I walk on leaden legs onto the stage. As Jakob takes my arm and chirps, “What’s your name?” I remember the cameras broadcasting this to the entire nation live and feel sick.
Shakily, I answer, “Ludwig Glockner…”
He’s practically beaming. “I’ll bet that was your brother, eh?” I nod. “Well, very brave indeed. Ladies and gentlemen, District 12’s first volunteer!” While he claps, everyone else in the crowd touches three fingers to their lips and raise them into the air toward me. I don’t feel brave. I definitely feel like I might pass out. I know the sign they’re giving me and it scares me. It’s a sign of respect and -- more importantly -- a sign of passing within the Districts. It hasn’t been used, to my knowledge, since the mine blew up a decade ago. It’s almost rebellious.
I glance at Jakob, to gauge his reaction, and am surprised to see that he seems uncomfortable. Rather hurriedly, he declares, “Let’s draw the second name.” He goes back to the bubble and spins it twice before fishing for a slip of paper. He finally snatches one and steps back to the microphne. “Let’s see who will be joining Ludwig this year…” He unfolds it and reads the name, “Alfred Jones.”
A blond boy, around my age, slowly steps through the crowd and I try not to roll my eyes. His expression reads uncertainty and mild fear. He walks to the stage adjusting his glasses, and, when he does, his entire persona. By the time he’s standing beside me, he looks determined and taller than my first impression had suggested. “And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen,” Jakob announces cheerfully, his comfort level back to normal. “District 12’s tributes for the 75th annual Hunger Games!”

I GOT THE KOYAN. EIGHT OF HER, IN FACT.
I was worried it'd take me all of my Quartz to get that many of her, but by some miracle, I ended up with over 1k Saint Quartz leftover, which I plan to save for Oberon's banner. I'm gonna be a LOT more frugal on his banner, though. No higher than NP2, and hope I at least get a dupe of Baobhan Sith so she can also get to NP2 as well.
Whatever's leftover after Oberon's banner, I'm gonna hold onto for a rainy day... or whenever the heck Melusine gets a rate-up, since I rolled on Merlin's GSSR banner and walked away with Grandpa Hassan.
BRUH I'M SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY MAH DOOD SO HOW'D THE REST OF THE ROLLS GO ON OBERON AND NOW

Just adding my two cents as well.
The Guidebook states the Autobots and Decepticons came to Earth aboard the Ark and Nemesis looking for the Allspark, but the show instead seems to heavily imply the Spacebridge is what brought them to Earth instead. As the Decepticons later steal Prowl’s ship, it’s clear the show is taking advantage of the lack of specifications on whether the Ark or Nemesis exists, as I feel the Decepticons could’ve repaired or used an escape shuttle from either ship to leave.
Also there’s Astrotrain.
Tumblr media
Astrotrain typically serves as the Decepticons’ ship to do outer space adventures in G1, and he can go to Cybertron under his own power, so by all means the ES version probably can do the same. Because the contradictory guidebook cites Astrotrain as the reason Megatron got his helicopter mode, I’m leaning towards Megatron killing the big lug to make sure the Decepticons have no means of escaping Earth. Astrotrain doesn’t appear again beyond this, and the Decepticons’ lack of escaping Earth points towards their non Spacebridge option being dead.
For some reason, Teletraan-1 is inside the GHOST base but I don’t think it was ever explained how it got there or if Wheeljack managed to clone it like you can clone a digital device.
The show feels like it WANTS to be a sequel to G1, but can’t commit to the cartoon’s antics, and I guarantee most probably don’t know about Marvel G1 to pick ideas from that, so it’s kind of a generalized vague memory of what now adult fans think G1 was but now with super cool OCs we’re all guilty of adding in our AUs. In someways I think the show was intentionally designed to be a sequel, they even call it G1.5 in interviews, so they didn’t have to do a lot of heavy lifting. The problem remains that G1 Megatron wouldn’t decide he’s suddenly sorry for what he’s done, and befriend a human.
A huge problem with a lot of modern reboot shows is they clearly expect you to already know who the characters are, but because EarthSpark and Cyberverse are the stereotypical Tumblr versions it failed to attract anyone who wasn’t already a Transformers fan. These shows and even TFONE are hyper designed with fans in mind, not casuals/normies. Beast Wars, Animated, RiD15, Prime, Rescue Bots and Armada worked because they didn’t pretend the new incoming audience already knew what TF was, they all went in it knowing most kids were going in blind, and made something kids could get behind. Now there’s this unhealthy desire to make stuff for us, and it’s very clear we as the built in fans aren’t numerous enough to carry the series. It’s why Wild King and CyberWorld have to do well enough with kids, this making official G1/Prime fan fiction has to stop because all it’s doing is making everyone unhappy and frustrated.
Frankly if the show wants to be a sequel to G1 so bad, then own up to it. GHOST could have shareholders like Astoria helping out, and dating Powerglide, Shawn Berger, TORQ, Lord Chumly as antagonists, Prince Hassan being an ally to the Terrans, Daniel Witwicky is an adult with his own children and Spike is in a Sparkplug/Grandpa Max role when helping out with the Terrans, have Octane and Blitzwing as friendly Decepticons hanging out with the Terrans, etc.
I agree it should have been more of its own thing, but if they’re wanting to be G1, then do so. Im tired of this inability to actually write G1 as it was: a goofy 80’s kids cartoon. G1 is popular with kids today still because it was a goofy cartoon that’s actually fun to watch on top of being accessible.
The leaving it up to imagination is irritating because most us are able to come up with better ideas suited to our needs but it feels like the main way to rationalize why we don’t see more Decepticons or Autobots is frankly they’re probably all dead.
There’s some implication both factions are scattered across the planet, with most gathered around Witwicky for some reason, and it kinda makes sense. If they needed to advertise a toy or bring in a new character like Ratchet, Shadow Striker, Chromia, Ironhide or Sideswipe, using that explanation fits. However it’s probably just easier, and fits better with the existential crisis, to say that almost all Earth bound Transformers are dead, with the Terrans showing repopulation is possible with the Emberstone. Then the Emberstone is powder so I partly wonder if the writers just likes to make the robots suffer… Not helped is the continued and unresolved (as of typing) issue whether Cybertron is still around or not, and Prowl is no help because he doesn’t know, and the Quintessons don’t seem interested in Cybertron or else they would’ve casually admitted to killing everyone or taking control of the planet to Optimus and Megatron during a gloat.
Should Earthspark been a sequel instead of a standalone? I don’t see anyone discussing this.
In ES, we got Optimus who is the same as in G1, Spike Witwicky exists (or he’s a nobody), we don’t know how they got to Earth or how the fight began on Earth, did they have selected allies, who died, what characters exist in this continuity, what happened during the war on Earth that could play a significant role in the post-war, what concepts exists?? A lot of the story is generalized. Nothing interesting, just ‘post-war inspired by G1; make it vague, fill the minor gaps, add some changes and let the imagination fill in the rest’. I could be wrong. But I love that they borrowed some IDW ideas.
New audiences are not going to understand what’s going on and not get into this story. Only fans can watch this with their existing knowledge from other continuities. Watching a standalone show as a fan kinda feels… unfulfilling, empty, I don’t how else to say it. I’m glad it’s a new idea but it’s less satisfying. We don’t know who or what the iconic characters (Autobots and Decepticons) are in this setting, they have smaller roles and don’t have much depth. Especially for new viewers.
IMO, ES should be separate from G1. Even if it was a sequel, it wouldn't save the show from writing quality issues which I'll get to later.
From what I've seen on other sites like tfw2005 and reddit, one of the only times ES gets brought up is when a person asks if it's a sequel to G1. It doesn't help how much G1 fan service ES has. While it's neat long time fans can have a "I understood that reference!" moment, there are also TF fans that are sick of the G1 pandering and want something new. ES was supposed to be that, but then it added the fan service like it knew some people would immediately reject the show because it strayed too much from the typical TF formula. It's pretty telling that ES S2 pretty much scrapped everything from S1 to the point that one of the staff made a tweet about it:
Tumblr media
Budget and time constraints are most likely a factor for how how vague things are in ES. However, most of the vagueness feels intentional because the writing quality wasn't up the challenge of doing actual nuance. It'd be hard to really make the Cons and Megatron sympathetic if they were shown being utter bastards like most of the them were in G1 and especially in IDW. The writing across all seasons of ES operates on the assumption/hope that the audience won't question anything.
And I know people are probably sick of me bringing this up, but the show's insistence with focusing on the Maltos as well as the way they're written is a huge reason why ES never realized its full potential. How are you supposed to look at the effects of war when the main humans behave like there wasn't a war most of the time? Wanna see more of the actual TF characters doing something? Too bad, this is the Robby and Mo Show. Sure, the TFs do get some time to shine, but they ultimately take a backseat to Robby and Mo. The Terrans were supposed to be a new subspecies of TF, but being a Malto is the most important thing.
So many people like to cite Nightshade as being THE reason ES failed when the reality is that the show's overall writing turned a lot of people away. It being a G1 sequel might've made more viewers stick around longer, but nostalgia can only get you so far.
If the writing was better in S1, I'm 100% certain that ES would've been one of my favorite TF series as well as one of my favorite cartoons in general.
