In the Words of Crowded House, “Don’t Dream It’s Over”. Your Next Success Might Still Lie Ahead!!!

So, I read an encouraging story on the Web the other day about people who made a success of themselves later in life.  Why, you ask, would I be encouraged by a story like that?  Listen, it keeps my hopes alive that I still have a shot at a Male modeling gig, or at very least making it in the sports world.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Those two vocations require some very specific attributes, namely, either good looks, or some exceptional physical prowess, that at this point in my life, none of which I possess. That article means that those of us in the Autumn of our lives shouldn’t stop dreaming, and if so inclined, should pursue those dreams.  We need to be a little more Crowded House and a little less Green Day (“Boulevard of Broken Dreams”) with our lives. We’ve all read stories of the Grandmother who graduated college in her 80’s, or maybe the octogenarian gentleman who scaled Mt. Rainier. I know, my regular readers are probably going to call me out because my last Blog was a bitch session about being, pissed off that life isn’t like it used to be when I was a kid and how my body is betraying me.  I guess after reading the article, I was encouraged by, the fact that age really is, just a number.  In my case, just because my knees throb on a daily basis, and it literally takes me 30 seconds to plan my route to get down on the floor to look for something under the couch, doesn’t mean that I can’t use my mind for something useful. Herkese iyi akşamlar 🌙 Sizlere 1860 Greenwich - New York doğumlu ressam Anna Mary Robertson Moses - daha bilinen adı Grandma Moses - 'dan bahsetmek istiyorum. 1887 senesinde Thomas Salmon Moses ile evlenen sanatçı Virginia' ya taşınmış ve yetmişli yaşlarının sonunda, sanat kariyerine adım atana kadar çiftliklerde çalışmıştır. 1905 senesinde New York’a geri dönmüş, 1927 senesinde ise eşini kaybetmiştir. Nakış işlemeli resimler yapmaya başlayan Moses, ortaya çıkan artrit rahatsızlığı sonrası resim yapmaya yönelmiştir. Başladığı ilk zamanlarda yerel galerilerde sergi açan sanatçı, 1938 senesinde düzenlediği bir sergiyle sanat koleksiyoncusu Louis J Caldor'ın dikkatini çekmiştir. Bu sayede bir sene sonra New York’ta bulunan MoMA'da 'Bilinmeyen Çağdaş Ressamlar' sergisinde yer almıştır. Sergi sonrasında adını iyice duyurmuş, 1940 senesinde New York’ta ilk kişisel sergisini düzenlemiştir. Lirik ve nostaljik peyzaj görüntülerini eserlerine taşıyan Moses, 'Amerikalı Primitif' ressam olarak başarıya ulaşmaya devam etmiştir.
