new grandma lore just dropped ‼️
in the 60's my nana lived in san francisco really close to haight street (haight and ashbury was where the big hippie movement kinda started in the 60s so my grandma was literally there when it happened) AND she lived a few houses down from the GRATEFUL DEAD and when she was walking to school she would see them outside playing music and they would say hi to her
also, she was a nurse in both california and oregon (apparently my dad lived in oregon this is literally the first time im finding out about this LOL)
but in california she was a nurse to timothy b schmit (the bassist for the eagles)'s grandma and timothy would come in to see them so my grandma knew him
and in oregon she was literally a nurse for the portland trail blazers (when they were actually good lol) and my dad told me that he was like five when this happened (so like 1976 ish) but he was playing outside and then a Volkswagen bus pulled up and inside it was BILL WALTON one of best college basketball players in history, the "NBA's most valuable player", and made the All NBA first team. anyways, he got out of his vk, said hi to my dad, and went to buy something from my pops apparently
this means he was chummy enough with nana to know pops enough to buy something
THEN (actually this takes place before all of this) but my nana was in an eagles AND beach boys album?????? she sang in the choir that was put in the songs. and she got her albums signed AND my dad still has them somewhere

everybody talks about dad lore but no one talks about grandparent lore. I just found out my grandma lived with a ghost and that my grandpa got the wrong family name when his parents immigrated from Mexico.

We love teenage grandma
I’m thinking about how my grandma had this guy who was super into her, enlisted in the army and sent her pictures of himself laying on his bunk staring at her picture moodily. She was not into him in the slightest. But it’s the funniest fucking picture of all time. Teenagers do not change. He’s someone’s Pappaw now. That’s crazy to me. He probably thinks of my grandmother as the foxy one that got away.

Once my grandma told me that when her parents were getting divorced her dad said if he left they'd never be able to find him because years of working with concrete has worn his fingerprints off. Apparently the same man would bang his head against the wall and when his kids asked why, he'd say "because it feels so good when I stop"
My grandma would drop more like nobody's business

grandma lore is even more insane than dad lore. FYM you knew Bill Clinton AND Billy Navarre personally???? What do you mean you were born on an airplane???? YOUR MOM WAS A NORTH KOREAN COMFORT WOMAN?
my grandma has had a huge influence on her local community, and i love her so much
#billy navarre actually helped find my aunt when she was kidnapped#gggma went through a lot#I have complicated feelings towards her but my gma hates her#so fuck it me too#grandma lore

Forget about dad lore what about grandma lore. I've known this woman for eighteen years and no one had thought to tell me she was engaged to a magician before breaking it off and then meeting my grandpa and finally marrying him. Fucking wild.
#dad lore#grandma lore#shit my mom says#Also had to learn the same way my late grandpa probably cheated on her at some point but irrelevant

Of the many stories my grandmother has told me, my favorite one has to be the time she accidentally picked up and threw a live possum across the yard.

Had a silly dream where JD and Floyd came back to the troll tree before the last trollstice but after singing killed their grandma and decided to doodle and expand upon it a bit
Clay never left the tree but was too scared to return to the families pod since he didn’t want things to go back to how they were before, he did try to find his brothers during the escape but got separated by the cave in.
John Dory was the one to find Clay and see him get caught by the cave in, when he came out of the tunnel without Clay and holding his wristband they all just assumed he was dead. Even so JD still searches for Clay with the hope that he might’ve escaped and is alive out there.
They know Bruce is alive but after JD got the post card he assumed Bruce didn’t want to be found
Some more doodles that kind of show their dynamic
Also-
JD always brings home souvenirs for the brothers both as an apology for being gone for so long and also because of this:
#my art#trolls#trolls 3#dreamworks trolls#trolls band together#trolls branch#trolls john dory#trolls floyd#trolls clay#trolls bruce#theyre mentioned but still#the dream brought the concepts to my brain#and i havent been able to stop thinking about it so i had to draw it#jd and floyd were going camping exposition dumping the lore#it was like i was watching a retellig of the first movie#clay is still alive btw#he doesnt know grandma is dead#JD and Floyd had run into him after coming back and tried to tell him#but they saw how well he was adjusting to his new life they didnt have the heart to do it#then they never got the chance since the second time they saw him it was during the great bergen escape#and they think he got buried alive or worse#floyd and branch were one of the first ones out of the tunnel#jd was one of the last#since after presumably watching his brother die he went on to help others escape#and now he insanely searches for clay and bruce while pretending everything is a okay#floyd has to be the voice of reason while also taking care of branch#and branch is branch completely isolating himself#good times :D#idk if ill do more for this but i wanted to share what i had

My opinion on the Latino Jason Todd headcanon
While I do understand ppl's criticism of the latino Jason todd headcanon and how its kind of racist to make the kid with parents with drug problems as the latino one, to me its more of a reclamation BECAUSE of DC's racism.
Read any 80s/90s batman issue that covers gang violence and drugs, most if not ALL of the criminals are poc; black people and latinos visibly make up the majority in the poorer neighbourhoods in Gotham. Aside from the caricaturist way they r drawn/speak, its not THAT weird cause its a reflection of irl big cities where immigrants and marginalised ppl are often forced to live in such situations, (like most of my dominican family lives in the bronx... it aint racist to say dominicans tend to flock there), BUT...the weird part is when the second a sympathetic character comes from that area, he's white and has a name thats "too fancy for the streets".
Obviously, Jason was created to look like the old robin, so I can't say that the whole "diamond in the rough" situation was purposely a tad bit racist, but its still a lil weird (especially with bruce's comment).
If Jason were a part of the overwhelming demographic in his area, the good-kid-in-a-bad-area trope has less connotations. DC is currently trying to fix this trope is by making crime alley whiter, which isn't bad but they could've just yk... humanised the non-white residents.
I also feel like the messed up way Jason was treated post-death is what makes him so relatable to latino readers. His tragic story of dying while trying to save his only living relative is turned into a lesson for newer vigilantes. Jason's particular disdain for abusers on a few occasions was twisted (by both writers and characters) into him always being dumb, reckless, cocky, angry and disobedient, always violent, never having been able to get over his upbringing. None of those things were true (he was a normal level of reckless and cocky like every other robin, not more), but its an easier narrative to digest compared to how it was in reality; a kid who worked so hard and loved even harder, died to save a woman who couldn't care less about his existence. He was an emotional AND smart kid who wanted so bad to help others get better but was remembered as too emotional (in a bad way).
THIS is the reality for many latino diasporas in day to day life; Theres no question that Latino culture is passionate and emotive, but people from other cultures assume that it is followed by instead of logical. both can coexist. emotion does not mean u have no logic. Emotions can be irrational but they aren't inherently that way, and I wouldn't say that the moments where Jason lashed out as a teenager were irrational (in og runs, not rewrites post red hood), they were mostly done to protect someone (going crazy on abusers, disobeying batman to save sheila, that time he got into a fight at school to defend his friend).
A lot of euro-centric culture is OBSESSED with the idea that rationality is separate from feelings and emotions, but not crying at a funeral doesn't mean you're better than those who do. Emotions are the basis of human ethics and morals, they define the way we interact as a collective and ignoring them does not mean they are not there. Theres no winner to a contest of who can feel the less. And the way Jason's emotions are treated (pre-rh, hes definitely unhinged afterwards lol) is so in line with how white culture tends to punish those who aren't ashamed to feel.
I TOTES UNDERSTAND that some ppl who headcanon Jason as latino are doing it for the complete opposite of reasons, like "oh here some angry emotional guy with druggie parents, haha must be latino". Its weird. I dont like it. And its only brought up so he can swear in spanish in some rlly bad text post where his emotions are getting out. But to me there's so much potential for metanarrative and commentary on how latinos are treated in media that can be exemplified through the way his character is treated. Being latino would add SO MUCH DEPTH to his character and his dynamic with the others.
#this is just my rant lol#for the non-latinos who wanna write latino jason todd pls stop the spanglish... he dont even have to speak spanish at all#you can incorporate elements of his culture/upbringing (pls pick a country tho the experience is so diff everywhere)#im super biased but carribean jason>>>>#ok but like undead lore in dominican culture is crazyyyy... like the myth of zombies comes from hispanola#my grandma was genuinely terrified of waking up in her coffin bc of stories of ppl coming back to life that she wanted to be cremated#jason todd#latino jason todd#red hood#batfam

This is my first time asking but I'm going to ask anyway (and English is not my native language) I'm curious to know how your OC and the destined one met (I mean how was their first interaction)
hi hi! thank you so much for your ask, this is the first time I have received one about my OC <3
probably something like this (read right-to-left)
Gonna use this chance to talk a bit more about my AU lol
Wrote in a separate post here that Oz has met Sun Wukong before when she was a child and he was buried under the mountain.
So when she got whisked back into fantasy ancient China, she landed where Yuan Shoucheng aka Gourd Grandpa (the old man carrying a big gourd on his back) was already waiting there for her. He foresaw her arriva. The vague gist of my AU is that the the reason why this Destined One succeeds in retrieving all artifacts and becomes SWK is because he is also sort of the manifestation of that childish promise 5-years-old Oz made that she will save SWK one day (from under the mountain but clearly that didn't happen lol). But also since her ancestor is from this world, her descendants were fated to return back here one day.
Gourd grandpa updates her on her ancestors and their roles in the Celestial Court and the shitstorm that happened that ultimately let to the clan being massacred and one person escaping to "our" world, where magic doesn't exist and all those people are just characters from myths and stories. But also her ancestor isn't the only person that traversed through the two worlds - over the centuries more have come and gone. This is also why people in her world have those myths and deities. In my AU Wu Cheng'en also escaped from fantasy ancient China into her world and then wrote Journey to the West. He took artistic liberty to change some things for his novel, hence some things in BMW are different than in JTTW (like the ZBJ and violet spider love story or how SWK had a romance with White Bone Demon).
Anywayyy, Oz task on the adventure is to document their journey together, and she is responsible for using the magical gourd to suck in the will of the defeated bosses in.
And 2-3 days later the Destined One shows up. I don't think Oz was very happy about leaving gourd grandpa and join the Destined One on his travel, but if he is her best chance to find a way back home to see Taylor Swift live, then she will do it.
The Destined One is indifferent to mildly annoyed about this, but doesn't protest too much, as long as she doesn't slow him down yadda yadda. I do think that DO did feel some sort of special connection to her, because he is sort of a manifestation of that promise. it doesn't really take long for him to get used to her and also to care for her. One of Sun Wukong's massive core trait is that he cares so much for his loved ones and does not hesitate to do the impossible for them, and I like to imagine that even though SWK senses have been split into 6 different parts, the caring part stayed with each Destined One reincarnation.
#szynkART#the ham talks#yes#the DO falls first#but Oz falls harder#also also Oz is a splitting image of her ancestor that fled the celestial court to her world (not a reincarnation)#the celestial court blamed the clan for something they wre innocent of hence#but it was an excuse to slaughter the clan#gourd grandpa was a friend of her great great great great 10x grandma#and Erlang Shen saw the injustice in this all so he was the one who obtained the portal scroll and helped the ancestor to escape#after BMW it think it's on brand for him to do that#played with the idea that maybe they were engaged but it was a one-sided love (erlang lol) but eh#it would be weird to see their descendeant that is a splitting image of your loved one LOL#anyway. I have liks SO MANY lore ideas for Oz if you wanna know more feel free to drop and ask!#cepheus baskerville#black myth wukong#black myth wukong oc#sun wukong#sun wukong x oc#sun wukong x reader

Modern fandom brain this, modern fandom brain that. My grandfather's first and middle name were the first and last name of the love interest from his mother's favorite romance novel. And she died before my dad was born, so her favorite book is the only thing I know about her. People have always been like this about stories they love. So like, get on my great grandma's level or sit down
#In college he (briefly) dated a girl who'd read the book#would love to have seen how that went.#I don't even know my great grandma's name now that I think about it. just the book#anyway I promise none of you have read this book or even heard of it#my family#lore drop#op
