@brokendreamscreation sent:
Peeking around the corner of the table, the small cherub stared wide-eyed at the winged feline standing at the counter. The red-black wings with the pattern of bars and spots mesmerized the child, toddling up behind him. Observing the feathery tail that swished, the white-gold downy fluffed angel flapping his wings excitedly, pouncing on it playfully. ( @brokendreamscreation )
"Ay, what in the..." The surely bartender was prompted to take a look downward when he felt a tug at his very own tail. He'd half expected it to be the likes of Niffty but when his eyes found their intended target it was an individial entirely unfamiliar to him. A kid?
"Ay now, easy there! It ain't no toy." His voice was gruff but held no true malice, only light annoyance and concern. "Yer so small, guess ya can't do much harm anyway." He added before bending down and scooping the small child up. "You... Yer not from around here, are ya, kid." With a glow like that and those pure, innocent looking blue eyes. "Don't look like any Sinner or Hellborne I ever seen."

Fictober Day 24: "you didn't do anything wrong"
That '70s Show Fanfic
Donna was working, writing a think-piece on what might be in store for the rock scene in the '90s. The townhome she and Eric rented had a third bedroom she used as an office. Soon, they'd convert it into a nursery. The waterfront view that inspired her creativity would become a serene place for her to focus during late nights with the baby. Or early mornings. And all the hours between.
She'd thought the decision to have a child would be a tough one. Her parents had little choice, considering her dad got Mom pregnant their senior year of high school. But Donna spent years integrating her relationship with Eric into her freedom and independence as an individual. She was more than ready to expand their family; she wanted to.
Her left hand went to her belly. It would "pop" eventually, Mom told her. She dropped her pen, and her notebook fluttered closed on the desk. Dad had as much right to know about his first grandchild as Mom. He'd be so supportive and excited, like he was everything Donna did -- mostly everything. If he told Point Place about her and Eric's temporarily private business, so be it.
She picked up the phone receiver and dialed his number. He picked up after three rings. "Did I catch you in the middle of Young and the Restless?"
"One Life to Live," he said, and Donna laughed. "Hey, being an entrepreneur-slash-retiree gives me a lot of free time. If Jo didn't still work, we'd probably have moved to Florida by now."
"I'm glad you haven't. Dad ... there's something I need to tell you."
"What is it, pumpkin?"
Concern cut through Dad's voice. It rippled in her stomach, and she pressed the phone receiver hard against her ear. "Your pumpkin is having a pumpkin of her own."
"With brown cinnamon?"
"With Eric. I'm having a baby, Dad."
An exhaled breath whooshed through her phone's ear pierced. "I'm so happy you told me! I wasn't sure if I could hold out another week."
"You already knew?" Donna twisted the phone cord around her right wrist.
"Your mom gave me the news. Then Red and Kitty swore Jo-Jo and me to secrecy because of their Halloween party."
Donna bowed her head. She'd misjudged her dad. Terribly. "I'm so sorry," she said, trying not to cry. The damn hormones flooding her pregnant body made the fight useless. "I would've... should have told you sooner -- "
"You didn't do anything wrong, sweetheart. I understand. Your dad can be a blabbermouth."
"Still, you're my dad. My dad," who loved her enough to quit being a chauvinist, with help from Joanne. Whose punishments contained mercy. Who gave her best friend a home when she had none. "You grew into being, like, the best dad in the world!"
"And I'll be the best granddad in the world. Speaking of which, Red can be called Grandpa. How about your little guy or gal call me Nonno?"
She smiled into the phone. "But that's what I call my nonno."
"Okey-dokey. Then Onorato."
"Honored?" in Italian. Of course. "Eric and I were thinking more of you being Pop-Pop."
A loud clatter sounded through the receiver, and she pulled the phone from her ear. "Are you okay?" she shouted.
"Yeah, just dropped the phone. Pop-Pop'll make me seem like a cartoon. I get plenty of ridicule from Red, thank you."
"All right, all right. I'll get over it. You can be Nonno," she said, and he corrected her pronunciation. She tried again, but he wasn't satisfied.
"I've changed my mind," he said. "If our grandkid calls me No-No, Red'll have a field day with that. What if I'm Grandpa and Red is Grampy?"
"Too close to Grumpy."
"But accurate."
Laughter overwhelmed her. She couldn't stop -- damn pregnancy hormones. They should be called horror-moans. "Dad," she managed to get out, "we'll figure this out later. I love you, and I have to vomit."
She hung up the phone and dashed to the bathroom. Hopefully, he'd be as forgiving about her putting I love you and I have to vomit in the same sentence as he was about her keeping her pregnancy from him for three weeks.

November 25 2023 Boulder
I picked Maple up from her parents yesterday and she was with us all day and overnight. She is such a delightful child and so easy to care for, but she is very active and it wears me out a bit keeping up with her. She naps well and she sleeps for 10 to 12 hours through the night so she is a lot more rested than I am!
Maple wakes up a little groggy but almost never in a bad mood and then she's ready to play, run, "help" Nana cook, and watch the kitties interact, which makes her scream with delight.
Maple's Grampy adores this little bundle of joy and, while she is sometimes a little shy with him, especially at first when we've been away, I know she loves him and likes it when he holds her and pays attention to her.

The Bridgerton grandkids definitely called their granddads “Grandpie” as toddlers and their grandmama “grandmie” . It’s so cute, whenever they do something naughty, they look at them with little pouts and doe eyes and are like “Grandpie/Grandmie please don’t be mad”
So…
The Earl is gamps, toddler Charlie struggled… it’s why Benedict is Pappap
Lady Sarah is Tanty S (they struggled to say Aunti…)
Mary is Nana Mary to Sophie’s lot and Grannie for Kate’s
Miles for all kids is Grampy
Edmund is grandpie or Pie for short…
Violet is grandmama but gamie for Short when they’re little..
Sophie gets Sopi from all the kids par her own
Benedict is Ben (or Benni)
Anthony is Anty
And Kate is Kitty….
Edwina gets Edi
And Posy gets Pose or popo from Charlie

MARY JANE: [dropping toddler!Mayday off at the penthouse for a sleepover] Have fun, sweetie! Be a good girl and listen to your grandpas. Oh, I almost forgot! Here’s your snuggle friend. [hands Mayday a green stuffed animal octopus with kitty cat ears and a tail] // MAYDAY: I be good, Mama. P’omise! [takes stuffed animal and kisses it] Grampy will be good too! // NORMAN: Grampy? // MARY JANE: That’s what she named her stuffed octo-kitty. // OTTO: Her what now? // MARY JANE: We wanted her to have a stuffed animal that reminds her of both her grandpas. Norman, don’t give me look! Do you have any idea how long it took me to convince her that you’re not big kitty cat?! I mean, I didn’t convince her completely, but I did the best I could!
Norman: Why does everyone think I’m a catboy 😣
Otto: You’re sitting on my lap and purring.
Norman: What am I supposed to do, NOT sit on your lap and purr?
Otto: Move over, it’s Mayday’s turn to sit.
Norman: [hiss]

Heya Angel Kitty Momma! You got to talk to Roman! Yay!!! How's Grampy doing? Will you be checking on him? Can you give him a hug from us? Time passes differently for us, and we miss him very much!
(Amaryllis sighs, donning her armor as she prepares to leave the temple for the day, sending a wistful look at the room currently housing Nicodemus.)
Amaryllis: Well, it’s hardly been a day. He’s stable, but it will probably take him weeks to recover from an outburst like that. And of course, I will give him lots of hugs~!
Amaryllis: ...I miss him too, loves. But worry not~! He’s in good hands here at the temple.

Snow White and the 1026 Dwarfs
Snow White woke up in the strangest little bed! She'd happened upon the small, cozy house deep in the woods, found nobody at home, and promptly crashed in the first bed she'd spotted. Sleep claimed her then, dragging her away to a place of relative peace and calm... carefully letting her ignore how tiny all the furnishings were, how oddly low were the ceilings and fixtures. And now, the next morning! What odd little men surrounded her! Normally she'd be alarmed by close proximity to so many strangers, but the events of the past day had granted her an oddly calm outlook on life. Nothing much rattled her anymore. Snow White blinked sleepily, yawned, and stretched. The men watched her every movement, transfixed. "Do you talk?" She asked experimentally. One older man -- tiny, rotund, and wiser than the rest with a long white beard -- glanced around at the others and nodded. He adjusted his spectacles and stepped forward. "I'm Doc," he explained with a jolly chuckle. I'm ever so sorry for barging in here uninvited, but I don't really have a home any more... would you mind terribly if I stayed for awhile? I can cook and clean and--" Doc raised a hand, interrupting her gently. "We'd be honored if you stayed!" All 1026 dwarfs nodded in agreement, and were so thrilled they threw Snow White a party to celebrate their new friendship. The party lasted late into the evening, and everyone passed out with full tummies and a happy smile lighting their faces. The next day the dwarfs arose early and prepared for work. Snow White cooked them breakfast and when it was time to leave they all lined up at the door to bid her farewell for the day. Snow White expressed her gratitude by kissing each dwarf on the forehead: Smarmy, Ragey, Explainy, Glossy, Pookie, Pesty, Grippy, Inebriated, Teary, Swampy, Piggy, Catty, Hitler, Stroky, Zombie, (For Grampy Kitty~ @brokendreamscreation )
Seated on the counter observing the tower of cards, the toddler angel stared. It was immaculate, skillfully balanced and practically perfect.
BAP!
The tower of cards doesn't just crumple, they are thrown into the air and rain down. Little Lucid squeals with laughter at the mini chaos. Pick up 50, anyone?
Well, that was that. The elder gent allows himself to lean back and pry his focus away from the layering and stacking of cards he'd only just been set on. Cards scattering and spilling where they may. Ah, well, at least it entertained the kid for as long as it had, that was the whole point of the make-shift project anyway. His eyes slowly fall over onto the tiny cherub, the gambler takes note of the sheer joy from chaos that the small angel seems to be experiencing; an appetite for mayhem if he ever saw one.. Yup. This one was gonna go pretty damned far. Takes a certain type and fortune was smiling on the kid, for now.
Husk reaches for his trusted bottle of booze; gives it a swirl once it's in hand. "And that's the way the cookie crumbles." He mumbles before thowing back the bottle for a swig.
#brokendreamscreation#muse!husker#eh sometimes the fat lady sings kid#it's just the way it is#but if you're lucky - she's belting one out for you#[one baby card palace wrecking crew!]

I love how much detail you have worked out! Can I ask what the surviving men of able company make of the revelation that the man they thought died 70 years ago is the Winter Soldier?
Great ask!
I was discussing with a friend in the comments that Frank Castellano, at least, would indulge in his “old man; don’t care!” rage, and while that is certainly true once the shock wears off, it’s not his first reaction. Here ya go, a little snippet of a (super) rough draft of future fic featuring Frank (say that five times fast):
The Sunday crossword was forgotten. Frank’s hands had always been steady, always been strong, and the flimsy newspaper was no match for them. His heart, on the other hand, had never been calm. Not in in the war, not when he’d married Kitty, certainly not when his children had been born (or his first grandchild; the others, it was fine). And it wasn’t calm now, either.
“Grampy?” His oldest granddaughter, Katherine, was at his elbow. “Grampy, you okay?”
“Turn off the—turn the sound back on.” The words came out of his mouth, but they sounded as though someone else had spoken them. Someone old, and afraid, and sick. In his mind, he’d never been old. At this moment, he’d never felt younger.
Kathy looked over to the television screen, which was—as ever—muted and locked on to CNN. Closed captioning that was “too small to even read, Grampy, why do you have it on?” scrolled across the bottom of the screen.
But the words flashing in on the news ticker were easy to see, even for Frank:
BREAKING: HYDRA OPERATIVE “WINTER SOLDIER” IDENTIFIED AS WORLD WAR II HERO BUCKY BARNES
Two photographs, side by side; on the left, the young man who had been his friend so very long ago. On the right, a clinical, brightly lit booking photo, its subject dead-eyed and pale, lank hair haphazardly pushed behind his ears.
Dimly, Frank was aware of Katherine swearing and fumbling for the remote (“Shit! Fuck!”). A second later, as she frantically clicked the “up” volume button, the broadcaster’s voiceover swelled into the room—
— “exclusively reveal that the Hydra terrorist known only as the Winter Soldier is in fact James Barnes, the legendary Howling Commando. It is unknown at this time how Barnes has survived to the present day, but it seems clear that he has worked with Hydra at least since the early nineties, according to documentary evidence obtained by CNN—”
“It’s Bucky,” Frank heard himself saying thickly. “Kitty, it’s Bucky—”
“I’m Katherine, Grampy, not Kitty, I’m sorry” — her voice was breathy, panicked — “Oh my god. Oh my god.”
“But what did they do to him?” It was the old man’s voice, again, and this time, choked with tears. Frank abruptly realized it was himself, again, that he was the weeping old man, and beside him, Kitty’s hand suddenly covered his. Her hands were cold, and they gripped his a little too hard.

I miss being in my room on my couch with my little tabls in front of me and the sun coming in thru my window and its the perfect place to draw. I miss the smells and I miss hearing grampie laugh at the tv. I miss my walls and I miss my little displays. I miss listening to music and drawing all day and going for my little walk everyday. I miss having spontaneous meet ups with Becca and the giddiness of it all, the sudden "wanna meet up 👀" around sunset, the newly found freedom that my world has finally opened up. I felt free, I felt authentic, I felt so goddamn happy. I know its not normal to be happy all the time but from summer 2018 to fall 2019 was the absolute best time of my life and I want the feeling back
For very obviosu reasons life is so much different now but for also personal reasons. We can't walk around town anymore because coronavirus, I can't really walk around my new neighbourhood because it's on a highway and there's no sidewalk, plus it's a new area and I'm kinda scared of being kidnapped.
We can't go hang out at the mall because coronavirus, we can't meet up with friends because coronavirus (i want to hang out and have tea and bring people treats i made 😔), we can't even go to our favourite cafe, not even just because of coronavirus but also because it BURNT DOWN in September. They reopened elsewhere so we can still get the drinks but it's absolutely not the same, I was in the old location when I realized I had fallen for Becca. We went there so much, it was our first dates and our favourite spot. I miss going to the grocery store just to look at stuff and make jokes about food. I miss walking around down in the mid morning, I miss going to the farmer's market and getting to know Becca's friends (who are really fucking cool!!!!!), I miss MARY we have no idea where she went, she hasn't answered either of us in months.
Selfishly I miss subway and doughy pizza 😔 and the rare times I'd let myself buy a treat from a bakery. Technically I can still have these things but they're not worth not being able to kiss Becca for 2 days. I need to figure out how to make homemade cream of mushroom soup if I want my favourite meal, but it'll be different because its not grampie making it 🥺 I miss seeing sports memorabilia everywhere and being in a house where every corner you turn you see Elvis Presley. My cousin's middle name is Presley in honour of this.
The nature of life is to change and adapt, that things will never be the same as they were the year before and we're not even the same people we were the day before. I know moving out was coming eventually in my life and I think no matter when this was going to happen I'd still feel this way. Today is the first time I've ever felt "did we do this too soon?", but not even for MY sake, for Becca's. There's so much stuff she had to leave behind at her abuser's but the thing that upset me the most is that she didn't have the chance to remember to bring her very first stuffed animal that was lost somewhere in her old room. It's a stuffed thomas the tank engine and it absolutely kills me that she doesn't have it anymore. There's no way at all for us to ever get it back unless by some miracle her abuser donates or sells it to some secondhand shop but since he's a massive shithead he's probably thrown it out by now. I think I'm probably more upset about it than what she is but it definitely gets to her at times too. It's like if I lost Kitty Baby, I would never in my life get over that. I can't help but think that if maybe we waited maybe even another week, that maybe she would have remembered it. I know it's not my fault but I can't help but think about how much I insisted she not go back. What if she went back just one more night last year and she would have remembered. Ultimately the trade off is worth it, her safety and security. It's also possible that if she did go back one more night and remembered her Thomas, something could have happened and I would've never seen her again.
Maybe if we're lucky he just won't touch anything and when he dies someone will tell us, and she'll be able to get all of her stuff back.
Oh my god this is everywhere
I want 2 go home and I want to be in the happiest time of my life again

275 - Grampy Katz in: The Big Date
Grampy Katz in: The Big Date is about rushing to get ready for company.
What’s fascinating about this game is the way that it’s presented, like a silent movie with dialogue cards giving insights into Grampy Katz’s predicament and what you need to do in the short time before his date arrives.
With those out of the way, you will need to hustle around the house getting everything ready, from cleaning to cooking to putting on music, in order to have a perfect time with Grampy’s lady friend. Don’t worry about disturbing Grampy’s kitty - they’ll snooze through the whole thing.
Grampy Katz in: The Big Date is available to download for free on itch.io.
