What objections would you actually accept to AI?
Roughly in order of urgency, at least in my opinion:
Problem 1: Curation
The large tech monopolies have essentially abandoned curation and are raking in the dough by monetizing the process of showing you crap you don't want.
The YouTube content farm; the Steam asset flip; SEO spam; drop-shipped crap on Etsy and Amazon.
AI makes these pernicious, user hostile practices even easier.
Problem 2: Economic disruption
This has a bunch of aspects, but key to me is that *all* automation threatens people who have built a living on doing work. If previously difficult, high skill work suddenly becomes low skill, this is economically threatening to the high skill workers. Key to me is that this is true of *all* work, independent of whether the work is drudgery or deeply fulfilling. Go automate an Amazon fulfillment center and the employees will not be thanking you.
There's also just the general threat of existing relationships not accounting for AI, in terms of, like, residuals or whatever.
Problem 3: Opacity
Basically all these AI products are extremely opaque. The companies building them are not at all transparent about the source of their data, how it is used, or how their tools work. Because they view the tools as things they own whose outputs reflect on their company, they mess with the outputs in order to attempt to ensure that the outputs don't reflect badly on their company.
These processes are opaque and not communicated clearly or accurately to end users; in fact, because AI text tools hallucinate, they will happily give you *fake* error messages if you ask why they returned an error.
There's been allegations that Mid journey and Open AI don't comply with European data protection laws, as well.
There is something that does bother me, too, about the use of big data as a profit center. I don't think it's a copyright or theft issue, but it is a fact that these companies are using public data to make a lot of money while being extremely closed off about how exactly they do that. I'm not a huge fan of the closed source model for this stuff when it is so heavily dependent on public data.
Problem 4: Environmental maybe? Related to problem 3, it's just not too clear what kind of impact all this AI stuff is having in terms of power costs. Honestly it all kind of does something, so I'm not hugely concerned, but I do kind of privately think that in the not too distant future a lot of these companies will stop spending money on enormous server farms just so that internet randos can try to get Chat-GPT to write porn.
Problem 5: They kind of don't work
Text programs frequently make stuff up. Actually, a friend pointed out to me that, in pulp scifi, robots will often say something like, "There is an 80% chance the guards will spot you!"
If you point one of those AI assistants at something, and ask them what it is, a lot of times they just confidently say the wrong thing. This same friend pointed out that, under the hood, the image recognition software is working with probabilities. But I saw lots of videos of the Rabbit AI assistant thing confidently being completely wrong about what it was looking at.
Chat-GPT hallucinates. Image generators are unable to consistently produce the same character and it's actually pretty difficult and unintuitive to produce a specific image, rather than a generic one.
This may be fixed in the near future or it might not, I have no idea.
Problem 6: Kinetic sameness.
One of the subtle changes of the last century is that more and more of what we do in life is look at a screen, while either sitting or standing, and making a series of small hand gestures. The process of writing, of producing an image, of getting from place to place are converging on a single physical act. As Marshall Macluhan pointed out, driving a car is very similar to watching TV, and making a movie is now very similar, as a set of physical movements, to watching one.
There is something vaguely unsatisfying about this.
Related, perhaps only in the sense of being extremely vague, is a sense that we may soon be mediating all, or at least many, of our conversations through AI tools. Have it punch up that email when you're too tired to write clearly. There is something I find disturbing about the idea of communication being constantly edited and punched up by a series of unrelated middlemen, *especially* in the current climate, where said middlemen are large impersonal monopolies who are dedicated to opaque, user hostile practices.
Given all of the above, it is baffling and sometimes infuriating to me that the two most popular arguments against AI boil down to "Transformative works are theft and we need to restrict fair use even more!" and "It's bad to use technology to make art, technology is only for boring things!"

cuz once again we have some distinctions going on wrt robots/AI in the fallout universe:
1. securitrons, mr handies, robo brains (?) etc as basically task-specialized chat-gpt inside a metal chassis, capable of processing speech and some level of communication and learning but ultimately lackig a consciousness
2. AI like yes man, whose self-awareness as i understand it wasnt fully appreciated by his creators, and whom ultimately you get to treat as like, a person who happens to have some specific circumstances going on in that he gets to live inside a computer and has some limitations to what he can say to you directly that he nonetheless tries to work around in terms of communication. like yeah he cant really say no to you which absolutely DOES have implications and colors your dynamic, and the game reckons with that, you do have to keep that in mind and its up to you how you feel about that and whether its something youre ready to accept in order to pursue your goal. theres also muggy, who unlike the other AIs in the sink clearly has a consciousness and a free will that clashes with his programming, who IS a comedic character but whose existence absolutely does say something about his creator
3. ZAX (and thus also president eden? i dont remember much about him so i cant make a full assessment here), complex conscious sapient AI with free will and self-awareness--and this generally is acknowledged and not put into question
4. fo4 mr handies like codsworth, who have free will, self-awareness, consciousness, who get to be house servants and unpaid dehumanized factory workers and so on and so forth, and are often regarded by people as Fellow Inhabitants, But Worse And With No Agency And Made To Serve, and one has to think about the cruel implications of purposely putting a self-aware consciousness into a Worker Robot presumably so they can be more efficient and versatile and require less supervision
5. synths who are literally just unambiguously people so whats the big idea, unless youre a scumbag of course you dont want them to suffer. meant to be a clunky metaphor but taken at face value its just another instance of like. oppression. irl its always nonsensical at its core and socially constructed innit
you know? so like. we are dealing with different stuff here. and the implications of some going completely unaddressed just baffles me

Hi! 👋 I started reading you fanfic Gilded Constellations, and it's so good!!! I've been looking for some good poly fics recently, especially with male!reader since I'm a guy, but there aren't many. After some apprehension, I started reading yours, and I straight up could.not.put.it.down. I barely convinced myself to go to sleep at 5 am. last night just to wake up and continue reading. The tension and the romance between Remus and Sirius is soooooo splendid! A lot of the time, writers sadly solely focus on the reader part and make it rather a love triangle ( I believe that's what it's called) than anything. There are so many things I'd like to say about your writing, but I just can't put it into words. I think I would just like to munch on your story haha I bet it would taste devine lol. The only way that comes to my mind are 40 lines of continuous keysmah. I will be waiting for all future updates with bater breath. All best wishes!
- RandomGuy
OH MY LORD! You don't know how much I needed to hear this from a man! I was so, so scared I wasn't getting the romance between the boys right. This is my first time writing BL, and I was so scared I was fucking the perspectives up–
Even sent some snippets and things to a friend but he never actually read them so I had to settle with Chat GPT telling me it was a well-charged emotional scene (which let's be honest, felt good even if it was just a robot's approval).
Now, it's not that I think romance is much different from the perspective of men and women, but I do recognize there are some inherent differences in the ways in which we like and love and all that and I also wanted to throw that in the mix, I mean I want it to be realistic (as much as I can make emotions realistic in a universe where magic is real).
And what you mention, about writers only focusing in the romance between the reader is true, and while some poly relationships are like that, I was in love with the idea of a Throuple, I mean three people that love each other that much just seems fascinating to me! And the potential for drama is also immense, which I love hehe.
Sorry for keeping you up till 5am, hope you're sleeping better now, but I also I feel so incredibly giddy with that hehe. And with the forty lines of keysmash and the fact that you think the story would taste divine.
And I'm really sorry there aren't many male reader fics out there, I've been pondering on writing something like that, and while it might not be soon (I'm a little behind with my GC schedule) I'd love to write some one day, especially to improve my BL writing.
Side note: I'd certainly love to hear your thoughts on some specific Remus and Sirius scenes from GC lol.
Thank you so much for your kind comments luv, sending you all the good vibes ☆:.。.o(≧▽≦)o.。.:☆

My Biases
I would like to begin my path to Wizardry by attempting to acknowledge my biases. These are the lenses that are going to skew my ideas and my perspective. Some of them will change. Some of them will not. I will try to remain aware of these distortions.
1. I am was an agnostic Atheist. I have been well indoctrinated into the belief system of Atheism, complete with all the blind adherence and self-satisfied sense of superiority inherent in all major belief systems. I'm stuck with this core belief; for now.
Update: May 26, 2023
With my Atheism in retreat, a lot of my childhood interest in Shamanism,Paganism, and Witchcraft has resurfaced, like old seeds that just needed a chance to grow. I have no idea what I believe at this point.
2. I'm into Chaos Magic. I'm using the works of Peter J Carroll as the foundation of my magical education, but that's expanding quickly.
3. I am privileged. As a caucasian cis-gendered hetero-passing male, a stay-at-home parent living in a beautiful home with supportive family and friends, who is in good (enough) physical and mental health, in his middle age, who kinda looks like Jesus: chaos already favors me in a lot of really tangible and measurable ways. Convincing the universe (and random strangers) to be nice to me has never particularly been a struggle.
4. I want to succeed. I legitimately want "magic to be real". I want to be a Wizard. A Magi; a knowledgeable person, a practitioner of magic (magick, magiq, whatever), and a functional human being. This is confirmation bias.
5. I think I'm clever. This is easily the most dangerous bias I possess. I have basically no post-secondary education, and no real experience with mind-altering techniques, magical or otherwise. Depending on your beliefs, I am either f***ing with cosmic forces beyond my comprehension, f***ing with and "fixing" my otherwise "(mostly) ain't broken" mental health and mental function, or both. I have everything to lose, and only a small amount to gain. I am sincerely and reasonably afraid that I'm not nearly as clever as I think I am, and I'm going to really hurt myself.
6. I'm disabled. I have ADHD (inattentive type) resulting in serious executive dysfunction. While writing my first post, I attempted (and failed) to perform a very simple executive task over a half a dozen times in a row, like some kind of confused robot walking into a wall over and over again. This sort of thing is so ordinary to me it hardly seems worth mentioning.
7. I speak English. I only speak one language, and it's English. I am biased towards thoughts and ideas that are easy to express in English, and I am exposed mostly to the thoughts and ideas of English speakers.
8. I'm left leaning. Politically, I tend towards left wing thought and rhetoric, and surround myself with people who have similar views.
9. I'm pro AI. I think AI is really important, and it makes me feel good. I use MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, chat-GPT, and other tools; and I'm strongly biased towards arguments that justify my good feelings, even if I'm intellectually aware of the potential drawbacks and human cost.
10. I don't like drugs. I take prescription ADHD medication and I'm addicted to caffeine, but in general I don't like drugs. If I can't get f***ed up on the power of my own mind and the beautiful world I inhabit, then I guess I'm not getting f***ed up.

A lot of this is spot on, but I think the choice of tools has skewed the data here, however, and may give an incorrect impression of how AI art tools on the whole work, because Dall-E 3 isn't representative of the options at large.
Dall-E 3 is pretty (if you make it be) and has good coherency and works with more naturally written prompts, but it is wholly uncooperative and has almost zero workflow accommodations for artistic applications, heck, It can't even do non-square aspect ratios (at least through Bing).
Playground AI beats it out on those fronts, and Midjourney and Stable Diffusion piledrive it into the concrete.
The only reason to ever use Dall-E 3's chat GPT interface is if you want to run up to three jobs simultaneously on a free bing account. It routinely misinterprets input, even direct "replace this word in the prompt with this other word" requests. It's essentially playing whisper-telephone with two hallucinating robots instead of one.
Here's how the process would go down in Midjourney:
Gonna be making a 90s fighting game version of my DeinoSteve character. Goal is to keep him largely on-model, minus changes that work for the style change from 70s comic/80s cartoon to 90s fighting game.
Prompt: fullbody character design, a velociraptor-anthro fighting game character, in the style of 1996 Capcom (Darkstalkers 3/Street Fighter Alpha 3) promotional art, fullbody on white background. Red scales, yellow shirt, black leather jacket, long tail, clawed feet, long tail, retrosaur asthetics, vector art inks with flat anime shading
Aspect ratio 3:4, Niji model v6, style 50:
Some pretty good stables at DeinoSteve (left image), but nobody's quite right. I've got several ways to get him kitted out right, but we'll use the same techniques CGPT was trying to use: inpainting and variations.
Upper right is closer to the character concept, but I like upper left's pose better, so we'll start by doing some variations on the subtle setting (right image)
You'll notice the variation problem from Dall-E 3 isn't there. Using Chat-GPT to change the prompt means you're at the mercy of two hallucinating robots instead of one, and it's probably been altering the prompt wildly with each revision, thus the slow degradation of mural-jesus.
Now, I'm just demonstrating in-system tools here, but on a piece that I was doing for finalization, I'd be upscaling all the ones that had features I liked, for later composition.
Steve looks... okay here, but he's off model in several major ways. Pants wrong color, no full-t-shirt, the spines on the tail, etc.
So here we'll do some inpainting. Unlike the GPT setup, I'm laying out what areas I specifically want changed at each go. Starting with the pants, I forgot to mention in the first prompt he wears blue jeans, so I add that to the prompt as well. If you're out to do your own post-editing, you can hit more parts at once and just composite from fewer gens.
I like #4 (left)'s swagger, so we'll repeat the process to get him full sleeves on his jacket, and to remove the spiked wrist cuffs. #4, again, is my winner. Now, I can keep varying individual bits, but I can also return to doing general variations, and the influence from the current version will carry over.
Now, it will me re-doing some bits, but #2 is pretty sweet, so he'll be where I tinker next. Note how a bit of his tail and claws are cropped out. I can fix that with outpainting.
If I were instead going for an edit in post, I'd probably have taken the best 5-6 chunks, merged, dropped to line art, then recolored by this point.
Now, I can keep tinkering on him bit by bit, put part of using the AI system is knowing when you're going to have to go manual. I know from experience that my chance of getting him to have his raptor-foot claws is going to require me to go in and do 'em manually.
If its not the horns and claws on dinosaurs, its hairstyles and clothing details on humans, the nature of using a randomized system is that you're going to get random hiccups.

But there are ways to mitigate that, depending on your toolset. Stable Diffusion has controlnet, different versions of which let you control things like poses, character details, and composition more directly, (as I understand it. I haven't messed with it myself, don't have that kind of beastly graphics card)
MJ's answer is presently in alpha: character reference. It's an extension of their image-prompting system (which isn't the same as image-to-image), wherein an image is examined by the AI's image-identification/checking processes and the results are used as part of the prompt. For Character reference, it tries to drop everything that isn't connected to character design.
A quickie iteration using a handful of previous DeinoSteve pics made the image on the left, while re-running the prompt with the semi-final DeinoSteve above as a character prompt produced the images on the right.
Of course, even with the additional workflow tools you get with non-DallE generators, doing anything with long-term consistency is going to require manual editing.
Anything with narrative? Well, this panel has over 20 individual gens in it, from across two generators (MJ and Dall-E 3)
The AI systems will get better over time, but there's an inherent paradox that I don't think they'll escape. To get to complex results you need complex control, and to gain complex control you need, well, complex controls
The more stuff an AI generator can do, the more literal and figurative buttons and/or menus you need to use those features. The more complex the features, the more knowledge and practice it takes to utilize them. Essentially: Any tool capable of (heavy air quotes) "replacing" an artist will wind up requiring an artist to operate it at that level.
As with other force-multipliers for art (photography, digital image manipulation, automated image touchup/filtering, etc) the skill gradient never goes away.
Among the many downsides of AI-generated art: it's bad at revising. You know, the biggest part of the process when working on commissioned art.
Original "deer in a grocery store" request from chatgpt (which calls on dalle3 for image generation):

revision 5 (trying to give the fawn spots, trying to fix the shadows that were making it appear to hover):

I had it restore its own Jesus fresco.
Original:

Erased the face, asked it to restore the image to as good as when it was first painted:
Wait tumblr makes the image really low-res, let me zoom in on Jesus's face.
Original:
Restored:
One revision later:
Here's the full "restored" face in context:

Every time AI is asked to revise an image, it either wipes it and starts over or makes it more and more of a disaster. People who work with AI-generated imagery have to adapt their creative vision to what comes out of the system - or go in with a mentality that anything that fits the brief is good enough.
I'm not surprised that there are some places looking for cheap filler images that don't mind the problems with AI-generated imagery. But for everyone else I think it's quickly becoming clear that you need a real artist, not a knockoff.

Leading Through the AI Creative Wave: Why Human-Centric Thinking Still Wins
Generative AI Is Everywhere - But It Can’t Think Like You
In 2025, generative AI is no longer a futuristic vision—it’s integrated into our daily workflows. From writing copy and composing emails to designing visuals and automating strategy, AI tools like GPT-5, Midjourney, and Copilot have dramatically changed how we operate.
But amid all this automation, one truth is becoming clearer: when creativity is outsourced entirely to machines, originality disappears.
This is where forward-thinking organizations are doubling down on their greatest asset—human imagination. They're investing in people, not just platforms. And they’re calling on industry leaders like an AI keynote speaker, a keynote speaker on leadership, or speakers on creativity to help them stay ahead by leveraging AI without losing their creative edge.
Human Creativity Can’t Be Coded
AI is brilliant at repetition, prediction, and imitation—but it doesn’t understand nuance, context, or human emotion. It lacks lived experience, intuition, and the ability to connect ideas in unconventional ways. That’s why human creativity is still the engine behind the world’s most iconic brands, campaigns, products, and movements.
Today’s most competitive companies know that AI-generated content can be efficient—but without human input, it often sounds average. It lacks the spark that makes messages resonate and brands stand out.
That’s why speakers on creativity are in high demand—to teach teams how to collaborate with AI, not delegate to it completely. Because in a world where everyone has access to the same tools, the differentiator is how creatively you use them.
Leadership Must Go Beyond Data
Modern leadership is no longer about having all the answers—it’s about knowing how to ask the right questions, guide teams through change, and empower innovation across every level. AI may assist in decision-making, but it takes emotional intelligence and vision to lead people effectively.
A seasoned keynote speaker on leadership can help teams reframe what leadership looks like in this era of automation—shifting from directive to inclusive, from performance-based to purpose-led. Leaders must now inspire originality and protect the creative process from becoming formulaic.
Because here’s the warning: When leadership blindly trusts AI without human oversight, decisions may become faster—but not necessarily smarter.
AI Should Amplify, Not Replace, Creative Thinking
AI is an incredibly powerful creative co-pilot, but without human strategy and values, it’s just output. It has no sense of what matters to your customers, your team, or your brand.
This is where a visionary AI keynote speaker plays a critical role. These experts guide businesses to integrate AI thoughtfully, emphasizing that true innovation happens when technology is directed by insight, not just data.
We’ve seen it already—businesses that rushed to adopt AI without understanding how to align it with their brand voice or customer empathy ended up sounding robotic, losing both engagement and trust.
The Real Risk: Creative Complacency
Here’s the quiet danger in the rise of AI: it makes it easy to settle. To generate something “good enough” and move on. But good enough doesn’t disrupt industries, win loyalty, or create cultural impact.
In a world flooded with AI-generated content, only original, human-centered ideas stand out. Leaders who understand this are investing in creative education, empowering their teams to think freely, and encouraging experimentation—even when AI offers quicker shortcuts.
When companies stop thinking creatively and let AI take over everything, they don’t scale innovation—they dilute it.
Final Thought: Lead With Intention, Create With Purpose
The future of work will absolutely include AI—but the future of success will always be human. Emotion, imagination, ethics, and empathy can’t be outsourced.
If you want your business to thrive in this new world, surround yourself with people who think boldly, question convention, and lead with meaning. Bring in an AI keynote speaker who can map the road ahead. Learn from a keynote speaker on leadership who understands emotional intelligence in tech-driven teams. Partner with speakers on creativity who can awaken original thinking in every department.
Because in 2025 and beyond, the real danger isn’t AI—it’s forgetting how powerful human creativity really is.

How does artificial intelligence (AI) work?
From chatbots answering customer queries to self-driving cars navigating city streets, artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer science fiction—it’s woven into daily life. But how does AI actually work? This post breaks down the mechanics of AI, explaining its core components, processes, and the technology that powers it. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or a curious beginner, let’s unravel the magic behind AI.
The Foundation: What Powers AI?
At its core, AI mimics human intelligence by processing data, recognizing patterns, and making decisions. Three key elements make this possible:
Data: The fuel for AI. Systems analyze vast datasets (text, images, sensor data, etc.) to "learn."
Algorithms: Mathematical rules that process data, identify patterns, and generate insights.
Computational Power: Modern hardware (GPUs, cloud computing) enables handling complex calculations at scale.
The AI Workflow: From Data to Decisions
AI systems follow a structured process to turn raw data into actionable results:
1. Data Collection & Preprocessing
Data Gathering: AI requires massive datasets (e.g., medical records, social media posts, or satellite images).
Cleaning & Labeling: Raw data is messy. AI engineers remove errors, fill gaps, and label data (e.g., tagging images as “cat” or “dog”).
2. Choosing the Right Algorithm
Algorithms are the “brains” of AI. Common types include:
Supervised Learning: The algorithm learns from labeled data (e.g., predicting house prices based on past sales).
Unsupervised Learning: Finds hidden patterns in unlabeled data (e.g., clustering customers by behavior).
Reinforcement Learning: Learns by trial and error, receiving rewards for good decisions (e.g., training a robot to walk).
3. Model Training
The algorithm processes training data, adjusts its internal parameters, and improves accuracy over time.
Example: A facial recognition model analyzes thousands of faces to distinguish features like eye shape or skin tone.
4. Validation & Testing
The model is tested on new, unseen data to ensure it works in real-world scenarios.
Metrics like accuracy, precision, and recall measure performance.
5. Deployment & Inference
Once trained, the model is deployed to make predictions or decisions (e.g., recommending movies on Netflix).
Inference: The process of applying the model to new inputs (e.g., identifying a spam email).
Key Technologies Behind Modern AI
1. Machine Learning (ML)
ML algorithms “learn” from data without explicit programming. Popular techniques include:
Decision Trees: Flowchart-like models for classification (e.g., diagnosing diseases).
Support Vector Machines (SVM): Used for image recognition and text analysis.
Neural Networks: Inspired by the human brain, these layered algorithms power deep learning.
2. Deep Learning & Neural Networks
Neural Networks: Composed of interconnected nodes (neurons) that process data in layers.
Input Layer: Receives data (e.g., pixels from an image).
Hidden Layers: Extract features (e.g., edges, shapes).
Output Layer: Produces results (e.g., “this image is a cat”).
Deep Learning: Uses neural networks with many layers to solve complex tasks like speech recognition or autonomous driving.
3. Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Enables machines to understand and generate human language. Techniques include:
Tokenization: Breaking text into words or phrases.
Transformer Models (e.g., GPT-4): Analyze context in sentences for tasks like translation or chatbot responses.
4. Computer Vision
Teaches machines to “see” and interpret visual data. Applications include:
Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs): Detect objects in images (used in facial recognition).
Semantic Segmentation: Labels every pixel in an image (critical for self-driving cars).
Real-World Examples: AI in Action
ChatGPT: Uses transformer models to generate human-like text by predicting the next word in a sequence.
Tesla Autopilot: Combines computer vision, sensors, and reinforcement learning to navigate roads.
Spotify Recommendations: Analyzes your listening history (and millions of others) to suggest songs.
Challenges & Limitations
Data Dependency: AI is only as good as its training data. Biased data leads to biased outcomes.
Computational Costs: Training advanced models requires massive energy and resources.
Black Box Problem: Many AI systems (especially deep learning) are opaque, making it hard to trace how decisions are made.
The Future of AI: What’s Next?
Explainable AI (XAI): Efforts to make AI decisions transparent and interpretable.
Edge AI: Running AI locally on devices (e.g., smartphones) instead of relying on the cloud.
Quantum Machine Learning: Combining AI with quantum computing to solve problems beyond classical computers’ reach.
FAQs
Does AI “think” like humans? No. AI simulates intelligence using math and data—it lacks consciousness or emotions.
How long does it take to train an AI model? Ranges from minutes to weeks, depending on data size and complexity.
Can I build my own AI? Yes! Tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and online courses make AI accessible to beginners.
Conclusion AI works by transforming data into insights through layers of algorithms, continuous learning, and computational power. While the technology is groundbreaking, understanding its mechanics empowers us to use it responsibly and innovate ethically. As AI evolves, staying curious and informed will help us navigate its opportunities and challenges.
Engage with the Future Whether you’re coding a simple ML model or debating AI ethics, remember: the future of AI isn’t just about machines—it’s about how we shape them.
This post simplifies the complexities of AI, offering a clear roadmap of its inner workings while highlighting its transformative potential. Dive in, experiment, and join the conversation!
