The important part is to just not do it when you win. Voters don't care and won't notice, they care about lower prices and such, so just do things that will *actually* help reduce costs and they will reward you for it (or, "reward", voters typically don't reward you for anything and sometimes actively punish you for your successes, but you won't be called out as a hypocrit or w/e at least)

And it is super vague anyway, right? Market collusion is *already* illegal, companies do do that (here is a current case in the meat industry!), we punish them now; you can keep doing that, increase enforcement, etc. You can just say doubling down on FTC actions in accordance with a 'new federal guideline' that is just defacto the same as the old guidelines But We Mean It This Time is your policy, and you arent even lying! Tons of rules go underenforced, this is fine. Wont change prices much ofc because the grocery industry just isnt that kind of space, but done right it can help at the margins.

One side of the popularist coin is that voters do actually care about issues, they are 'smart' and notice if you are hot airing them while endorsing different beliefs. They dont in fact vote solely on vibes. The other side though is that they are also dumb, and dont have any real theories of change but instead grab-bag, shallow policy preferences that they don't stick to if the underlying problem solves itself. Lower housing prices and they will not care if you did it via rent control or supply side reforms. Being a good politician is seeing where they care and where they don't.

F-Zero 99 - 1 Year Anniversary and the Future

F-Zero 99 is the best thing that happened to Nintendo Switch Online.

I'm not gonna say it any other way, it's been a bit more than a year, and I have 153 hours. This game is top 2 of my most played games (just under Splatoon 3 which has 253 hours).

I was one of the people who was down for this idea since the moment Pyoro teased it and when Nintendo announced it in the September 2023 Nintendo Direct.

This game received 6 content updates since its debut, and most of them are major updates, and as of October 2024, the latest update was 1.5.0, with the addition of the Ace League, making it the first time that Nintendo has ever rereleased Satellaview content in any way, worldwide.

I gotta be honest here, this game keeps on giving, Nintendo Software Technology, the team behind this game, not Arika anymore, is doing a great job.

I'm gonna talk about how I felt about this game, but also a bit of an history of datamining, about the game's future, but spoiler: I don't think this game will die anytime soon.

Happy One Year Anniversary to F-Zero 99!

Oh, and, to everyone saying this game is pissing on F-Zero's legacy as I've definitely seen a few: Go f**k yourself.

Online Quality

To anyone who loves to mock the online quality of Nintendo, you cannot do it to this game, or even any of the games of the "99" series. If you have online problems, the problem is on your side. 100%.

Either your connection's terrible in which case I cannot do anything for you, but most of the problems that I had with the game, it was all solved with either a fix of my internet connection setup (cables, Wi-Fi setup, etc), or by rebooting the Switch system entirely, this is most likely what you need to do the most.

It's not entirely perfect of course, but for the entire year of its existence, I have legit no serious complaints to make to the game.

Datamining The Future

Now... let's go over what we originally datamined at first.

I'm not gonna go over what was clearly experimental content such as a 3D Mute City I map or other things like that.

Extra Modes

We found code and references to 2 modes that have yet to be added to the game since launch:

Arcade Mode It is believed to work similar to old arcade racing games, where you have a limited time, and you go through Time Gates (also datamined) to add more time to your counter to let you either finish the course, or run out of time and rank out.

Survival Mode We found some references to it for the schedule file, but also what is feeling like to be a circle plane. I speculate it to maybe work like a battle royale where the playable place reduces in size, but it's hard to fully understand how it works at this point in time.

I have no idea when these modes would be added, if ever, actually, it's still subject to interpretation.

Extra Courses

We also found references to 4 placeholder course files:

Sulfur Swamp

Volcania

Fungus Swamp

Forest

Three of them uses recolored Mute City I and a custom but clearly placeholder background. But the inclusion of Forest placeholder was definitely an odd one.

It was actually hard to say what it could have been, but Forest is actually the name of a course in BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 on Satellaview, and more to that, it's the name of a course that we never actually had recovered until the recent BS F-Zero Deluxe hack that used tons of tools in an attempt to reproduce them. We still don't have the original data yet, though. The bounty for that is still up, by the way.

I did definitely get my chances to suspect that maybe, NST was looking into Satellaview tracks, alongside brand new tracks, but maybe that Forest was just also a placeholder name.

But considering the inclusion of Ace League now, I doubt it is a coincidence. Especially when they bothered to have pretty creative names for the others, Forest just sticks out from the rest for being a pretty generic word, an argument that I had already used back then.

But I also noticed something odd, though, on this one I will DEFINITELY give an update if they ever fix this, but the Ace League's best machine ranks are not saved in the stats. This is odd, I don't know if it's a bug, or if it's actually voluntary... because IF it is, then I think the Ace League will change in the future to include the rest of the Satellaview tracks alongside a new Joker (?) League.

UPDATE from October 16th: F-Zero 99 1.5.1 update just released, and they did fix this so I was just doing copium. Not that I didn't expect it, it was a very shaky thing.

In one of the updates, before the inclusion of Secret Tracks, we had seen what was named Death Wind I Remix, which was the Death Wind I + White Land fusion. It's not unlikely that in the future, we will receive what would be called Remix tracks, for possibly entire leagues, but we might need to wait a while before we get those.

Incoming Event?

As NST is definitely aware of datamining attempts, they have been actually pretty busy scrubbing every unused files related to future content especially.

But then they missed a file in the latest 1.5.0 update that added Ace League:

It seems they are looking into doing a Mario VS Donkey Kong Festival Event in the future, including a Mini Mario League, and 4 Star Rivals called Mario, Mini Mario, Donkey Kong and Toad.

There's not much else to it, as it is just text. This text was not localized in most languages from English.

If I had to guess though, I don't rule out that this event might happen for the anniversary of the Mario VS Donkey Kong remake in February 2025. Mario VS Donkey Kong was also the baby of NST, ever since the first of the series on GBA, so it might just be meant to be a fun thing they wanted to do.

I would expect the Mini Mario League to contain either brand new or modified existing tracks to a newer style related to Mario VS Donkey Kong, new music, possibly new machines, and, definitely to me, new emotes to unlock. I expect that to be a limited time event like the others, though what you unlock will definitely stay to your workshop, like previous events, and possibly Training mode if there's indeed new courses to play that they care enough to let us play after the event.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have to collect Mini Marios or something like that, but either way, it seems NST is trying to be a little more daring to F-Zero 99 and possibly follow the footsteps of Tetris 99's themes.

Depending on the situation of the Ace League machine stats, I might have to update this post if I really somehow went too far with my suspicions. (UPDATE: Yes I went too far, they fixed the bug with 1.5.1.)

I do expect more updates related to Ace League for sure, as I do think we'll get Classic versions of the Ace League tracks, and possibly Mirror versions too.

Series FINALE?! (And what this might mean for you)

Hey folks, HOLY CRAP I WAS NOT EXPECTING MD TO CONCLUDE ON SEASON 1, I WAS EXPECTING / HOPING FOR A SEASON 2 AND ANOTHER YEAR AT LEAST

Ahem.

So, what does this mean for the MD Fandom?

For the artists, writers and fan animators who might be panicking and suspecting that the fandom is on the verge of imploding now that MD is going to end, DON'T PANIC! Fandoms as large as MD can survive LOOOONG after the show or media ends through fan content alone, there's always gonna be a group of dedicated fans creating, writing and animating content and there'll always be a group of dedicated fans who like that fan content.

Fanfiction, art, music, animations, if you make it, there's always gonna be folks who see it and like it, doesn't matter if the show is concluded or not, they will come if they like the cut of your jib and you will be the frontline troopers keeping the fandom chugging along (I'll be there too, ain't no way in HELL am I leaving the fandom)

So yeah! I'm firmly convinced that the MD fandom isn't gonna implode after the finale, so as long as folks keep making fan content and folks keep their interest IN said fan content, then we'll be A-Okay!

For casual fans, those who haven't dabbled in the mystical arts of fan-content (music, fics, animations, shitposting etc), you folks are gonna be eating GOOD, no need to worry about the show "dying" or anything, just support your favourite artists, shitposters, writers and fan-creators and we'll keep on trucking for years to come.

(I'm saying all of this to myself as much as I'm saying it to y'all, but hey, if other shows and fandoms can survive YEARS after their conclusion or years after it goes downhill, then so can we, except we WON'T be going downhill)

Alright, so! For some OTRP stuff...

Managed to post a brand new chapter today (got some massive scheduling issues and just straight up forgot to send the chapter to my editors and beta readers to proof-read lmao) so that's up! But I got a bit of a heartfelt question for you folks.

I know the greater fandom will survive, but OTRP is still a long ways to go before the end, and I know that the current Colony arc is gonna drag on a bit (mostly focusing on stuff like slapping the Workers back into fighting shape, helping Doll finally move on from her parent's death, sloooowly uncovering and hinting secrets etc) and I totally admit that I wasn't expecting the arc to get this big or even for MD to conclude before I'm finished.

So what I wanna ask is this:

Even with MD ending, will you folks stick with me until the end? Will you still be motivated to read OTRP even if my upload schedule is dogwater and I forget to reply to comments? Will you stick around to see how Uzi, N, C and V win?

We've got a long ways to go, and while MD might end, OTRP will keep on trucking until I either finish the fic or die trying, I aint leaving no matter what. (/silly)

so me and eden talked about it and ive decided to take a sort of internet break with her, just for a week or so. i hate hate hate being so dependent on the internet (particularly social media) for both entertainment and socialization and i feel like being online so much and relying on it for SO LONG (since i was maybe 11?) has really been detrimental to my mental health. and since ive made rent for this month i feel like now is a good time to just step away for a bit.

i still unfortunately rely on the internet for my livelihood--i HAVE to take commissions in order to make rent, provide food, etc, so i wont stop posting art or taking commissions! i'll just be less social i guess. i wont make any posts or reblog anything, i'll just be posting art and contacting ppl abt commissions.

i want to spend more time with my wife. i want to go outside more. i want to hang out with irl people more (i literally have no irl friends). i want to go to meetups. i want to disconnect from the internet so bad i HATE relying on it as much as i do. i mean this so unironically i want to touch grass again

im ngl. i also talked w eden about possibly starting up an irl small business for my art--something along the lines of basically being a caricature artist again, but this time self employed. i'd have my own brand and go to parties and draw people, and volunteer at the local children's hospital sometimes too and draw the hospitalized kids. im honestly just trying to think of ANY job that would help me ease up on being so reliant on social media for income, if possible, that would still be fun for me and not absolutely kill my mental health like my previous irl jobs did. dont get me wrong i love drawing yalls ocs! but i cant charge as much as i should be b/c i dont have enough of a following/demand, so i have to take a lot of commissions before im able to make a decent living. it sucks.

if i could charge more to where i only had to take maybe 3 commissions a month in order to make rent, thatd be ideal. id still love to do commissions for a living! i love drawing your blorbos and i honestly dislike the idea of going back to caricature art--its not my passion by a longshot and its very stressful to do live art so quickly. but im just trying to think of anything to help at this point u_u i cant get on ssi b/c then we wouldnt be able to use my bank account for income and we'd basically have No Money To Do Anything Freely Anymore. so i gotta just. stick with what im doing. I hope this isn’t a question you’ve gotten already. I was curious how did you figure out your brand, like in the sense that you knew the name you had for yourself was something you loved and wanted to be attached to your content ya know. I’m trying to figure out what I want my brand to be for my content or at the very least have a brand that’s solely my own and tells people it’s me whenever they watch or interact with it ya know.

honestly, it took a lot of trial and error! even down to like usernames and my overall aesthetic i went through quite a few different phases. my name came the easiest though. when i picked ophernelia, it was just on a whim. my favorite song of all time is caraphernelia by pierce the veil so i wanted to do a play on that. ultimately i just ended up picking the letter 'O' cause it sounded the best to me lol. over time it's worked to my benefit because it's pretty unique. that name wouldn't come up unless you were referring to me. like if you google it all the results are just stuff that links to me lol, so it's a lot easier to like stand out i guess. i've wanted to change it a few times, but it'd be such a hassle to do it. besides i have to learn to stick with stuff long-term so it's staying the same lol.

as far as finding an aesthetic or vibe that aligns with me, i've always leaned toward an edgier style. even if it's with a really light color palette. that's how i am irl. i love my baby pinks and other pastel colors, but it always has to have a bit of edge to it. i tried to have that translate to the stuff i make too. it took me a whiiiiiiile to get a decent grasp on it though. the biggest driving force was the "you can't say someone copied you if it's in the game already" "you aren't as original as you think you are" so i said "true ok bet" lmao. i just started to make everything myself. edit everything myself. draw my own stuff, make my own cc, edit the worlds, and ultimately make my entire brand just a culmination of my original content cause that for damn sure can't be replicated. that pretty much deaded all the incidences of similarities. and it's what i needed anyway. i was lazy as hell with stuff before knowing i could do better if i tried. i got my ass in blender and got to work lol.

ultimately i'd say it's just doing what's authentic to you. your vibe, your aesthetic, your beliefs etc. it's kinda like with finding a personal style irl. you gotta go through a lot of different vibes to see which one aligns the most with you. which one feels the best. and it doesn't even have to just be one thing. it can be like a mash of different styles you really vibe with. from there it'll evolve over time and ultimately you'll have a clearer idea of what works for you and what you like fr!

Bad Blood - A Fallout Nuka-World fanfic (#ntzsche Nuka-World)

My longest story is a fanfic, but with a cast of characters largely not in the Fallout 4 DLC. I intend to eventually write this in a way that someone who hasn't played the game would be able to easily read.

Lafayette, the son of a 'retired' raider, left his abusive father to find his place in the world and was taken in by an eclectic trauma-bonded found family that inspires him to be a better person and shows him love he is certain he doesn't deserve. When his father comes across them in a raid, Lafayette is given the offer to join him, and he agrees in order to save the settlement and his little brother. Lafayette finds that being with his dad again, and being the son he always wanted him to be, isn't nearly as difficult as he thought it would be. He struggles to maintain the person he wants to be with the person he suspects he is, all while a cast of scheming raiders, wastelanders, and slaves vie for power in the raider city built within the rusted remains of an amusement park.

Salem's Child (#ntzsche Salem)

A background on one of the lesser Nuka-World characters that I got carried away with.

Andrew Rook doesn't look like his parents. He looks like someone they are desperate to forget. Growing up in post-apocalyptic Salem, Massachusetts has it's perks, though. In a fading settlement run by incompetent men who would rather blame the population of feral black cats for their problems than try to solve them, Andrew and his two best friends build a world in their imagination that shields them from the wretchedness of the wasteland and the people they have to rely on to survive.

Hechizo

Another character background that I would love to expand into a few short stories around.

Mateo Zavala was born in the vibrant and tight-knit community of Navarro. His great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother, a pre-war ghoul, is still the ruling matriarch, and it's hard for her not to play favorites when she has over 300 living descendants.

A what-if real-world rewrite of an event from another story. I just really enjoy writing these two.

When the consequences of the wreck threaten to destroy Dave's life, Gabe finds himself doing everything he can to hold those pieces together. The love he harbors for his straight, polyamorous best friend runs deeper than either of them are ready to face, and find that Dave's injury turns their relationship completely on end.

Witch of your characters is the most difficult to voice? And are you planning on giving an accent to any of your future characters?

I remember you saying that you weren’t very good at doing accents but I remember that audio of patreon of Yuri and Victor and you did an awesome job!

It took everything in my power to do a stereotypical Russian accent after hours of watching accent coach videos, all so I could do minimal amounts of actual dialog, and was STILL shit talked for the voice. Sometimes you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, etc.

Staying consistent in an accent is incredibly difficult for me. I literally do the WRONG accent when I try to do an accent on the fly. My brain does not work that way. It simply doesn't. So if I wanted to really super duper try, I could muster up an okay accent.

I got lucky that my northeastern asshole voice was popular and that it's super easy for me to do, and that I can get my pitch up enough to differentiate between Alphonse and Charlie. Really lucky.

My "bad impression of Ghost from COD" wasn't the worst thing I ever did on stream the other day, and maybe that one could stick with enough practice. But other than that and my "vaguely posh pretty talking" royalty voice that can be tweaked with the amount of sass I use, I really don't foresee me rolling out characters based on their accents. My strength is leaning into a performance and using the writing/acting together to create a tonally different character. That's what my focus will be on. Then there's special cases like Echo where the voice modulation helps make it very different. Which I'm happy to say, I have FINALLY settled on a voice effect that is easy on the ears but adequately robot-y enough for my needs!

For those who are lost, Echo was to YuuriVoice what Tom is to Toonami, except he only showed up in a channel trailer and banner one time and then I LOST THE VOICE EFFECT I USED and couldn't get close to what I had before, then I pivoted away from the theme we were using for branding and he just sorta...sat and waited. I love him (big fan of his design, screen-faced robots are my fave plus the headphone ears are super cool) and have some plans for how he'll be back in action as a boy on the channel!

This is a reminder to those who struggle with the idea of putting together meals (be it low energy, depression, feeling overwhelmed etc), you don't have to make a regular meal in order to eat! There are lots of pre-made/easy to make options out there that are healthy, filling, and taste good!

Bolthouse Farms pre-bottled smoothies (or any brand pre-bottled smoothie) are a great go-to to for breakfast (the strawberry parfait smoothie is a big favorite of mine)

For a snack, I love grabbing some carrot sticks and the individual ranch dip cups you can buy and the supermarket.

I'm also obsessed over the microwavable mini-potatoes that come with seasoning packets (found in the produce section). Pop that sucker in the microwave for 5 minutes and bamb you got yourself 3-4 meals of potatoes right there.

Yogurt is a great fast and easy option as well (Chobani has the really yummy flip cups that come with toppings such as cookies and cream, salted caramel, and key lime pie).

If you want more snacky food, Quaker Oats has a really yummy Salted Caramel rice cake chips (I used to think rice cakes were gross, but these are fucking fire I almost ate a full bag this morning).

Another great snack is fruit, either dried or fresh! I have a pack of raspberries in the fridge and a bag of apple chips in my snack drawer ready to go.

If you want actual meat, I buy my meat pre-cut (so I don't have to do all the work) and I just mix it up with a seasoning packet (supermarkets have tons of different seasoning packets for meat) and throw it in the air fryer.

Microwavable Minute Rice Cups!! It's a really fast and low-effort way to put together a side of rice for a meal! They come in packs of two individual microwavable cups of rice, all you gotta do is pop it in the microwave for a minute.

Getting tired or sick of drinking water? Grab some Powerade. Yes, it has sugar, but it also has electrolytes your body needs and will still keep you hydrated. I *hate* water, so Powerade/gatorade is an easy way for me to stay hydrated. I always keep a bottle in my backpack and one on my nightstand. You can also try Liquid IV, but I'm not a fan of the salty taste that goes with it. Buuuut there are Sour Patch Kid flavored ones that don't taste too bad 👀 The bottom line is, go for whatever will keep you hydrated.

I've struggled with chronic illness and low energy for years, as well as having essentially no executive function thanks to my ADHD, so cooking or putting together traditional meals has been really difficult. These are just the foods that have been easy for me and I know it won't fit everyone's criteria, but I hope it helps some folks out who are looking for some low effort and easy meals/snacks!

Cross stared at the circle of people on the floor, blinking slowly. They didn't know their roommate had been hosting a party.

"Uh, hey?"

"Cross! Did I forget to tell you? Whatever, come here, sit down with us!" Charlotte said excitedly, practically grabbing their arm and dragging them over.

Cross hesitated. "I'll throw off your order," they pointed out, meaning the obvious man-woman-man-woman-etc order that everyone was sitting in. Cross would stick out like a sore thumb.

"It's spin the bottle, not statistics. It doesn't really matter!" Charlotte winked. "Besides, I know you don't care that much."

"Well, no, but... Spin the bottle? We're not in high school, Charlotte."

"But it's fun, come on, you'll have fun too. Please?"

Cross rolled their eyes. "Fine, I'll play. But next time, warn me when you have a party, okay?"

"Yes, yes, of course, come on, sit! We haven't started yet."

Cross and Charlotte both sat down, and someone, a guy Cross didn't recognize, placed an empty Coke bottle in the center. Charlotte, as the party's host, went first.

Cross got bored of watching the game pretty quickly, and instead scrutinized the faces of the people around them, wondering if there was even anyone to kind of hope the bottle landed on during their inevitable turn. There were a few pretty people there, but only a few Cross really knew. They were quite surprised to see two of their more frequent classmates in the circle.

Ace and Bea were in the same degree program as Cross, so Cross saw the two of them a lot. Even if all three of them weren't in all the exact same classes, they were still in a lot of them, and had even worked on a few projects together. Cross knew those two quite well, and wasn't ashamed to admit to people they really trusted that they maybe liked both Ace and Bea, but didn't know if either of them were queer. Or into their specific brand of gender-fuckery. Whichever.

Cross watched them both get picked by the bottle for a few others. Some people only kissed the person of their preferred gender, some kissed whoever the bottle landed on even if they weren't their preferred gender, some kissed whoever because they didn't have a preference, and two even refused a kiss. Nice.

Cross thought about refusing to play, but really, that would be a spit in the face to Charlotte and her dear, sweet attempts to get Cross a date. Or two. You know, whatever.

Surprisingly, no one had landed on Cross yet, and suddenly, it was their turn. Cross hesitated for a minute, but then reached out and sent the bottle spinning. It spun for what felt like forever, and with every rotation, Cross couldn't help but hope it landed on either Ace or Bea, and not someone they barely knew.

The bottle began to slow down as friction gained the upper hand.

Cross held a breath.

The botlle slowed more, the end appearing closer and closer to Ace.

Cross felt their shoulders tensing in anticipation.

The bottle slowed to a mere crawl, passing over Ace.

Then it stopped.

Between both Ace and Bea.

Cross panicked, and looked to Charlotte. She just shrugged.

"I guess you have to pick!"

Cross stared at Charlotte really hard, hoping the force of their staring would break all psychological reasoning and allow Charlotte to hear what Cross was very loudly thinking at her.

How can I choose? How do you expect me to pick?! Do I only get to pick one? This would be my first kiss!

Charlotte simply stuck her tongue out. "What's your choice, Cross?"

Cross felt it as everyone's eyes were on them. They glanced between Bea and Ace, feeling paralyzed. They opened their mouth after a minute.

"Can I say both?"

A whoop rose up from the circle, and Cross flinched. Charlotte burst out laughing.

"Sure, go ahead, I'm not gonna stop you!" Charlotte wiggled her eyebrows. "But you still gotta pick who you kiss first!"

Oh, god.

Cross closed their eyes and sighed. "Okay. Um." They opened their eyes and met Bea's. They smiled softly. "I guess Bea first?"

Bea tucked her head down shyly, her skin too dark to show blushing, but her body language being more than enough to tell that she was flattered. "Okay!"

Cross approached Bea, and knelt in front of the girl. They leaned in to her ear and whispered, "I hope you don't mind being my first?"

Bea shook her head enthusiastically, her braids bouncing. "Why would I mind?"

Cross smiled, placing a hand on Bea's cheek, and finally kissing her. Short and gentle, yet Cross felt oddly energized by it. They parted from Bea with a giddy grin, and turned to Ace.

Ace had been waiting patiently, a faint look of anticipation gracing his face. Cross took his hands gently.

"Are you okay with this?"

Ace nodded. "I don't mind at all."

Cross kissed him then, same as they did Bea, and just like with Bea, they felt that energy flow through them.

Maybe it's adrenaline. Maybe it's maybelline. Brain shut up.

Cross returned to their seat with little waves at both Ace and Bea, just as Charlotte stood up. She clapped her hands loudly.

"Okay! That was exciting, I don't think we can top that. Let's go play something else! Like ping pong."

"We don't have a ping pong table."

"The common room does." Charlotte pointed to the door. "But if you wanna stay and study or sleep or whatever you do, that's fine too, I'll make sure we don't get too rowdy."

Cross hesitated. Most people had already gotten up and were getting ready to leave the dorm. Normally, Cross would stay behind. But now, Ace and Bea were standing in front of them, both holding a hand out to them.

Charlotte laughed again. "Looks like you have something to talk about!" She cheerily left the room. "One less thing on your bucket list, right?"

"I don't have a bucket list because God won't let me die!" Cross yelled at Charlotte's retreating figure, completing a running bit they had. Charlotte simply laughed in response again before leading her party out of the dorm.

In the end, Cross took both Ace and Bea's hands.

On the topic of your actual question- I can definitely see her doing that! Some of the non-magic interests we know she has (based on things like posters in her room or references she makes) off the top of my head are like. Off-brand versions of soul eater, resident evil, various animes, etc.

Tbh I feel like (since this would obvi take place during the montage in Thanks to Them) all of the witch kids would really enjoy horror related media? Like. It reminds them of home when they see gnarly bodies mutilated by fungus or anime battles where some twink gets bisected. The boiling isles is Scary As Hell and there seems to be a very casual attitude towards violence a lot of the time (grudgby as a sport, the fact that a 14 yr old was allowed to enter an underground fighting ring, etc)? That's part of the whole joke is that Luz gets isekaid to a very inhospitable fantasy world so unlike her dreams! But for the rest of the hexsquad, zombies and draculas and what have you brings back memories, yknow?

Personally I'm partial to Luz getting some of the other kids into resident evil the most bc. I like resident evil lol. putting forth the hc that Leon Kennedy was Hunters bi awakening

But also Hunter has a Japanese flag patch on his sweater so I'm taking that as evidence that he's at least seen anime. I'm more versed in shoujo than shounen (willow and amity would love sailor moon btw. Amity also likes precure and willow likes cardcaptor sakura) but I feel like there's a lot of shounen anime that would appeal to Hunter. Gus too! But also I feel like Gus has really eclectic taste in media. He watches shows meant for different age groups, he watches things in different genres. He watches French new-wave and he watches kids cartoons. He's got the range.

he just wants to in take as much of human culture as possible and honestly? I think it'd be fun if Luz and Gus' roles as Human and Witch are reversed in the sense that the witch is strong-arming the human who's obsessed with magic into showing them ~human stuff~ bc they're autistic about it. It's dynamics like these that I love in the show and I know they would've loved to do more with everyone in the human realm 😭

Short answer: In Robots & Gardens regardless of wealth it is typical to hand out homemade treats for Halloween. Something simple like a marshmallow on a stick (decorated of course) or somebody's homemade taffy, etc. A lot of marketing related stuff is pushed out and a lot of lower income neighborhoods are more subjected to it. But back in the day they'd just hand put a bunch of essentials like toiletries and food coupons. Which annoyed a lot of the kids but who says the hunt for treats isn't? The easiest way into these kids hearts was sugary drinks. They'd love you forever if you filled their bags with soda.

Green shivered in her hoodie, lovingly worn by it's previous owners. She refused to cover her costume at first. The hoodie was gonna ruin the appeal. And ruin all the work her mom and Peace's parents put into this. She still remained stubborn as the cold flushed chubby cheeks.

"Green! I saw kids leave from that house with marshmallow things!" Her taller companion beamed, ginger hair braided carefully, smaller braids then woven together into two larger ones.

"Good eye! Finally somebody with food!" Green reached for Peace's hand.

They ran together, Green a bit ahead of Peace. This would be one of the few times Peace would struggle to run in a dress.

"Treats please!" Both yelled in unison.

Both held out pillow cases filled with an assortment of pencils, toothbrushes, someone even gave them both two food coupons, and the almost expired sunscreen that left a film on their skin. Not many sweets this year. But that was every year.

"Aren't you both a little old to be wandering the streets for treats?"

Green huffed. Peace pouted. Both crossed their arms firmly over their chest.

"Stingy." Green stated

Tugging down her hood. Showing off a pair of homemade horns attached to a headband. Hair ruffled and fluffed from the hood and the brisk wind. Adjusting the tail she had duct taped onto an old pair of slacks she cut into shorts.

Peace tilted her princess cone hat thing. Fabricated of paper mache. Dress an altered version of her dad's sleeping gown.

"I am not stingy!"

"We're even a costume pair. That deserves double!" Peace stood her ground.

"Exactly! Princess and dragon. You give treats to the dragon... The dragon doesn't burn you!"

"Why not a dragon and a knight?"

"Dragons are cooler!" Peace defended.

"And dragons don't have to follow rules." Green added.

"Where's the treats?!" Green and Peace held out their pillow cases expectantly.

"Little shits." They grumbled, "Here take em. I better not see you two next year." They dropped three each into their bags.

Peace grinned and proudly outstretched her hand to Green. Green placed her hand in hers. Holding both of their pillow cases between her side and bicep.

"Bet we can get a couple pops at the next street." The dragon said turning her head to the princess showing her teeth.

"I hope they're the one's in the glass bottles." The princess added a couple stray coils bouncing as they walked hastily across the street.

"If they are. You gotta distract them by being all cute and princess-ie and I'll run in and shove as many in our cases as I can."
