When Spencer asked me to go with him to meet the team, I was excited. We’d been dating for almost a month and a half, and every day since, he’s talked nonstop about his team and how they’re basically his family. So when he asked me to come with him for dinner with them, I was over the moon. But that was two weeks ago, and today is the day. Unfortunately, I am no longer over the moon because all I can think about is the fact that I’m going to stick out like a sore thumb with the outfit I picked: a black and white polka dot maxi dress with a black cardigan, a rosary with a thin black choker, and my signature beat that I almost wear every day. To be honest, it’s not my most unique-looking outfit, but I still feel like an outsider more than I usually do.

After staring in the mirror and contemplating for what feels like a lifetime, I’m suddenly pulled out of it by Spencer coming into my room and sitting on my bed, which happens to be right next to my vanity. “What’s wrong? You have a very sorrowful look on your face,” he says. I turn to look at him but don’t make eye contact, fearing I might cry.

“I don’t know. I just feel really uncomfortable in my own skin right now, and I’m scared that they’ll treat me like some outcast or freak.” I finally look him in the eyes and see that they’re glistening. “I promise they won’t treat you like that. You know Penelope dresses differently too, and no matter what happens, you know I love the way you dress. But all that matters is that you love the way you dress. Now, we have ten minutes to leave, but if you really want to stay here, I completely understand.”

Spencer says, holding my hand. I take a minute to think, deciding that no matter what, I have him by my side. “Okay, let’s go,” I say to Spencer, leaning in for a quick peck before standing up to put on my shoes.

Nick and Grant compared to lark and sparrow are so interesting

I think Nick and Grant messed with the methods they choose to protect their kids in what happened to them. Can’t have a flakey dad if you don’t have a dad. Can’t feel everything is terrible if everything is always good.

But Lark and Sparrow arc and poor parenting isn’t about a mistake made trying to ensure they aren’t like you. They were raising their kids into what they wished they could do (kill the doodler, be normal.)
