After watching GOTG 2 again I am struck by how it IS possible to kill a beloved character in a meaningful and hard-hitting way

Yondu was my favourite trashbag pirate dad. Like, it 100% made me sad to see him go, and I'm so tired of the 'death as redemption' trope that I immediately wrote a dozen fix-it fics.

But narratively? It was perfect.

It was a big character moment that brought his arc together. A guy who hid all his fear and trauma behind this act of being the biggest toughest badass around, who pretended he didn't care about anyone but himself, was finally fucking honest about his love for his son and had a really soft, touching, heartfelt moment where he was trying to comfort him while he died.

It was a horrific situation with no other way out. Yondu and Peter had to choose one of them to die, and of course Yondu chose himself, not his kid. It didn't feel contrived, or like a disservice to the characters' intelligence. There really was no other option.

It was dramatic. It was heart-rending. It felt impactful, not least because the film ended with a massive funeral where Yondu's whole adopted family (who Yondu thought he'd pushed away and who hated him forever) showed up to say goodbye.

We had Peter resolving to be a better parental figure to Groot while listening to the music Yondu left him. We had Rocket reflecting on his big 'I see you, you're me' Trauma2Trauma moment with Yondu. We had Peter telling Rocket the Guardians will always love him, even if he - like Yondu - does that Typical Abused Kid Thing and pushes the boundaries of everyone who cares for him to test when they'll snap. We had poor widower Kraglin inheriting Yondu's arrow (and absolutely sucking ass at using it, lmao). Hell, we even had Gamora and Nebula sharing that beautiful, awkward, unpracticed hug.

In short, it was so much better than A Certain Other Death, and rewatching made me grateful for how it was handled

They’re two space outcasts who managed to find the other and almost always have each-other backs when the rest of the galaxy is against them. They don’t get along all the time and can have their fights/falling outs, but they always manage to find a way back to one another and it clear they both care about eachother deeply, even if rocket in particular is way to angry and emotionally stunted to show it most of the time. Personal favourite moments with them include the 2015 Groot miniseries where Rocket, despite hating earth, helps Groot to go on a space road trip there, (and the moment in that same comic where they say they’d go across the galaxy and back for eachother 🥹) the two of them going on a virtual beach vacation together in the Groot and Rocket Raccon comics, and them straight up saying I love you to eachother in the gotg eidos game and the Telltale game

I do slightly prefer their platonic bromance as is, but no one can tell me there isn’t at least more than one universe where they’re a married couple.

Also I just think it would be super funny if there’s a version of the gotg where the main romantic couple is the weird comic relief talking Racoon and sentient tree monster rather than any ship involving the conventionally attractive humanoid heroes like starmora.

And every time you dance, your joyous and contagious energy envelops Adam like a warm blanket. Your dizzying turns and the way you move your arms harmoniously make Adam want to dance with you and he wishes you would teach him.

He is definitely a jealous guy. He understands that you can have friends and be with several people but sometimes he feels sick to your stomach every time you're with a guy, it makes him feel insecure as if he's not good or handsome enough for you. Adam feels like you belong to him, and not in a toxic or misogynistic way, but it's just that to him you're the best thing that's ever happened to him and every time you don't spend time with him his heart sinks a little.

Adam hates bullies. When he sees that someone is being rude to anyone in Knowhere, his eyes harden and his fists clench firmly and he will walk with a sure step towards that person to teach him a lesson. However, Adam is quite a pacifist so he won't fix things by fighting, he will simply talk and maybe, why not, if the bully is too pedantic Adam will threaten him

This golden boy has a hard time expressing his feelings because he simply doesn't understand them, when he saw you for the first time he felt something in his belly, a strange tingling that filled him with adrenaline. He looked everywhere for help, at first he thought he was sick but the sensation was not uncomfortable, on the contrary, every time he was near you he felt comfortable and safe. He asked all the guardians what it was that he felt, they all said the same thing. Love. Oh boy, he got a little scared, he didn't know how to confess his feelings towards you.

When he finally made up his mind to tell you how much he loves you, he blurted out the words as if he were getting rid of a heavy load. Adam was afraid you'd reject him but apparently the feeling was mutual. You will always remember how his face relaxed and a big smile lit up his lips.

He loves hugs! He is like a child seeking maternal warmth. He will hug you whenever he can and sometimes when you are off guard. Being taller, he likes to hug you from behind and rest his chin on top of your head. Other times, you will be the one who needs a hug so he will wrap you in his strong arms wrapping you and caressing your back. He just loves physical contact as a love language.

And speaking of hugs, Adam also really enjoys cuddles. He likes to snuggle next to you when you're lying in bed. He will place his head on your chest and wrap his arms around your waist. He also loves it when you stroke his hair until he falls sound asleep. He prefers to be the little spoon but if you want he will be the big spoon and he will cover you and put his arms on your stomach like a big bear (since he is taller).

Adam really appreciates that you listen to him and pay attention without judging him especially when it comes to talking about his mother. He still feels somewhat guilty and responsible for what he happened to his mom so he seeks to vent to you and for you to comfort him. That's why Adam is also very overprotective, he doesn't want anyone to suffer or have the same fate as his mother. He couldn't bear the thought that someone was hurt because of him.

Adam doesn't understand much about sex. He knows what he is but has never experienced it. In fact, for him it is a simple act done to conceive children. I adore Rocket and Groot’s relationship. They’re just two weird outcasted creatures of the Marvel universe who found each-other and had each others backs when the whole rest of the galaxy treated them like freaks. They don’t get along all the time and can have their (old married couple energy) arguments, but at the end of it all you can tell they care about one another, even if Rocket is to emotionally stunted for his own good to admit it out loud most of the time. They also have a ton of sweet moments together, from Rocket going through the trouble of traveling to earth, a planet he hates, just so Groot can be happy and (mild spoiler) reunite with an old friend of his in the 2015 Groot comic series, to them going on a beach vacation together in the Rocket Raccoon comics, to Rocket Having an I ♥️ Trees mug in Marvel’s Rocket & Groot Cartoon, to Groot and Rocket straight up saying “I love you” to eachother in the Guardians: Grounded comic, the Gotg Eidos game, and the Telltale game etc. (which now that I think about it, I think rocket has probably said “I Love You” to Groot in most gotg related media more times combined than he has to any of his canon female love interests… so do with that info waht you will…). I could go on, really. Tbh, I do slightly prefer and love Groot and Rocket’s close platonic friendship as is, but I would be lying if I didn’t believe there’s at least more than one universe in the Marvel multiverse where they’re married.

Always be my sister

It seems for many people Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is the inferior movie. The worst of the bunch (not as bad as second instalments of Iron Man and Thor but still not up to par) but for me it was my favourite until now. It’s the way it allows the character to look back at their lives and see there were good things in their past not only bad. Makes them appreciate what they already had not only long for what they wish they had. In all the damage that made their past there ware some genuine connections even if they were so small and fragile in swamped by the hurt. And they let them grow. And it happened for Peter and Yondu. For Rocket and the team (although we only can fully understand how important that was until now in Vol.3). But for me the one that really resonated was the one between Gamora and Nebula because it seemed so hopeless. 

At least we see Yondu actually want to make up to Peter in Vol.2. Nebula seems to be driven only by hate – she preferred to cut off her own hand than take Gamora’s and responds to kindness with only more aggression. Until she wins.

Gamora’s own damage made her never allow herself to be vulnerable as a way to defend herself. She learns to allow it slowly with Peter. And the little slip with Nebula is what brings her sister form the brink because that’s what Nebula really needed to show her own. It shows Gamora that vulnerability doesn’t lead only to being used by others. And it allows Nebula to slowly allow others get close without expectation it will always hurt. And it allows both of them to develop a real sisterhood and it’s beautiful. But it’s also heartbreaking because Thanos uses it against them and Gamora dies as a result. And Nebula carries this guilt with her.

But that connection, that little thread they found in their horrible past in GotG Vol.2 is what allows Nebula to save another Gamora in Endgame. To give her sister another chance at life and happiness. Nebula is willing to be there for her sister but knows she need time on her own to deal with the fallout just like Nebula needed it after the battle with Ego. New Gamora’s Thanos made scars are too fresh and Nebula understands because just a few years ago their roles were reversed and she couldn’t stay with the Guardians either. But both then and now they will be there for each other when needed.

The Gamora who was family to the Guardians of the Galaxy is gone. The memories of their years together belonged to another person and she cannot be that person. The lessons that Gamora learnt, the connections she made and the love she held belonged only to her. This new version hasn’t lived through that and never let her guards down or became a hero. She isn’t there yet. But she did find her own found family with Ravagers. She still has people who love her and make her a better person and let her heal after Thanos. It’s just not the same people. It’s not the Guardians. They are just too way ahead of her in that whole redemption arc. But she is still loved.

But she is still sister to Nebula. Look, they even wear spacesuits in each other colors. They never stop calling each other sister. Nebula has been in contact with Gamora this whole time because they are still connected by their shared history. And this is loyalty above all else so even though it clearly pains Nebula to see Peter drink himself unconscious because he’s missing his Gamora she doesn’t tell him. She knows it’s unfair to make Gamora carry the responsibility of healing the pain of a guy she barely met. She can never be the woman he misses anyway. Nebula doesn't tell the others because she understands Gamora is not responsible for solving their grief and that she has to sort her own post-Thanos feelings. She gives her sister what other Gamora gave her after part 2 - space to find out who she is. Nebula owes it to the sister who died to give this life to help Gamora’s variant get a chance of finding her own happiness unburdened by expectations of others. She owes it to her to always put her sister’s best interest first.

Nebula only brings them together for Rocket because she needs to help the friend who got her through the years of losing her sister and everyone else. Because Rocket is Nebula’s family too and she needs them all to save him and that means she heeds her sister too. But even then she makes sure to curate the interactions between her two families. She stops Quill when he gets too needy. She stops Gamora when she gets too aggressive. Nebula learnt to love them all and she needs them all to help Rocket and maybe understand each other better along the way. And they do. In the end Gamora sees why these losers became family to her other variant and her sister. She got a bit of taste of how it was to be thieves and the big, damn heroes together and learnt that they are not that bad after all. And Peter accepts that this Gamora will never be the woman he knew. That she is her own person. And he learns to listen to his own sister. She too only has his best interests in mind.

The history cannot repeat. This is just closure. They rest of Guardians and this Gamora are still strangers to each other. They are not this Gamora’s family. They are Nebula’s family. She really become all her first sister wanted to be and even the new variant can see it. But they are all connected because Nebula is still family to them all. It’s just that this Gamora and Nebula each have their own found families. They can hang out with each other’s from time to time but they longer share one.

But they still share all the years under Thanos and the connection they made with the sibling they hated the least and while saving each other during Endgame. They will still always be there for each other. Gamora knows it too and she sticks for the High Evolutionary ship rescue because she wants to save her sister. She goes with her to save the kids and becomes a hero because they always have each other’s backs. They will always be sisters.

Look at them growl at each other before each rejoins their chosen family. Their story went full circle and it’s sad but it’s also beautiful and they’ll always have their sisterhood.

I have a headcannon that if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man met atsv!Hobie Brown, he’d have a crush on him.

Hear me out.

Throughout Tom’s franchise, he’s had two love interest. Michelle Jones and Liz Allen. They obviously have their similarities and differences but I’m just gonna bring up Tom!Peter’s obvious type.

They are both taller than Tom!Peter, are super intelligent since at some point, both Michelle and Liz are the captain of the Decathlon team. And they’re both black and fucking beautiful, let’s be real.

Expanding on Michelle more, she obviously has a very opinionated stance on the government and how history was run in the past. She’s all around observant and has a rather sarcastic and blunt humor.

Though, I suppose the biggest argument would be the fact that Hobie’s a man and Tom’s!Peter is also a man, and there’s no way to know if (MCU) Peter likes men. So I bring you one name to counter this.

Thor.

Now, obviously there’s no way to know for sure if Tom!Peter actually likes Thor, so I’m bringing in a little headcannon from the fandom altogether.

You know that one scene in Infinity War, where GotG meets Tony and Peter for the first time? They’re having that standoff and then Thor gets brought up. Quill brings up how he is “not that good looking” (total cap btw, coming from an asexual woman), and Tom!Peter makes that face.

Yeah, that one. Since then, people’s been making jokes that Peter just has a crush on Thor.

So now, let’s talk about Thor. He’s a total hotty god, with a tall, muscular build and a heavenly accent. Let’s be real now, who doesn’t have a crush on Thor in the MCU?

With all this, I’ve compiled a list of what Tom!Peter’s type is.

He likes them on the taller side, with a good looking face, and a nice build. He prefers a partner with high intellect, and likes them witty with a sense of humor.

Now, how do any of these mean Tom!Peter might have a crush on Hobie? Let’s compare.

Just from physical description alone, Hobie already matches Tom!Peter’s type. He’s tall, dark, and handsome all together.

He was “briefly” a runway model, having stated that in Across the Spiderverse during his introduction. He’s 6’5 in the atsv movie (though in comics he’s depicted as 5’11, which still doesn’t do anything cuz Tom is a whopping 5’8) and he’s black, obviously.He’s also very big on antidisestablishmentarianism (big word, ik) and just all around anti-govvy. His accent is also very attractive (to me at least).

So, yeah. There you have it folks. That is why I think Tom!Peter would have a crush on atsv!Hobie Brown were they to meet.

The most interesting things to us from the first half of Round 1 were the MCU polls.

We did not intend for them to play out as they did, but we think it was kinda a fun civics lesson.

Thor v Guardians 3 v Guardians 2 played out like a split party vote. When there are three candidates but two of them draw from the same voter base, in a plurality system this leads to the other candidate getting an advantage. As we saw in the poll, because the GotG people didn't rally behind one movie, Thor ended up winning despite the reasonable assumption that at least one of the other two is generally more preferred in a ranking. Kinda like the 1912 US Pres. election with Teddy Roosevelt splitting the Rep. from Taft and giving Wilson the win.

Spider-Man NWH v Capt. Amer. CW v B.P. Wakanda Forever as if there were three equal unique parties. No two parties were drawing from the same base of equally electorally powerful voters. This resulted in the three movies dancing around the 1/3 mark for the whole week voting was open. This could (in theory) happen on an Ideological scale if there were enough room between the extreme parties for a third party with popular policy stances to pop up.

two party systems (where the structure/electoral rules are set up to encourage two parties) do not like either of these because the split shows the one party was more popular they were just disorganized and the other shows that if a party could observe one of the others it would be at a much greater advantage to win.

Groot/Rocket Raccoon (Grocket) - Marvel, mainly the comics, cartoons and videogames

Throwback to 2014/2015 when these two were THE biggest romantic ship in the gotg fandom. Including smut.

Ok jokes aside, I adore Rocket and Groot’s relationship. They’re just two weird outcasted creatures of the Marvel universe who found each-other and had each others backs when the whole rest of the galaxy treated them like freaks. They don’t get along all the time and can have their (old married couple energy) arguments, but at the end of it all you can tell they care about one another, even if Rocket is to emotionally stunted for his own good to admit it out loud most of the time. They also have a ton of sweet moments together, from Rocket going through the trouble of traveling to earth, a planet he hates, just so Groot can be happy and (mild spoiler) reunite with an old friend of his in the 2015 Groot comic series, to them going on a beach vacation together in the Rocket Raccoon comics, to Rocket Having an I ♥️ Trees mug in Marvel’s Rocket & Groot Cartoon, to Groot and Rocket straight up saying “I love you” to eachother in the Guardians: Grounded comic, the Gotg Eidos game, and the Telltale game etc. (which now that I think about it, I think rocket has probably said “I Love You” to Groot in most gotg related media more times combined than he has to any of his canon female love interests… so do with that info waht you will…). I could go on, really. Tbh, I do slightly prefer and love Groot and Rocket’s close platonic friendship as is, but I would be lying if I didn’t believe there’s at least more than one universe in the Marvel multiverse where they’re married.
