From time to time, I recall that one PETA tweet going (paraphrased) "unless you dream of killing a cow with your bare hands, you aren't a carnivore!"
And you know how it's these types of folks who will insist on feeding dogs (and the less rational ones include cats) a vegan diet?
By PETA's own logic, my dog is a total carnivore.
Her idea of the best time is following animals tracks (she has caught the scent of deer on someone's car--they were right there when we were walking by and said they hit one after she wouldn't stop sniffing the bumper). It's not a friendly "just wants to play", but a full "wants to sink in teeth and rip it apart, Mother, I crave violence". She's gotten her mouth on a bird (that, for some reason, wasn't flying even with a dog obviously going for it) and a cat (the cat was safe, between its speed and me holding her back, it slipped away before she could bite down). She goes nuts seeing animals she isn't allowed to chase, jumping in the air and yelping in frustration. At least half of our walks go to the same stretch of road with multiple empty lots where we've seen deer down from the mountains and cats from the neighboring homes. Tracks and scat everywhere.
Also, the only fruits and veggies she doesn't spit out are the ones cooked in meat broth (and that she usually leaves until there's none of the good stuff left).
There really isn't anything about this that can change. Dogs are facultative carnivores (carnivores that can/may supplement their diet if they can't get enough) and my dog is half shar pei, a utilitarian breed with a focus on guarding and hunting and she strongly takes after that parent. (Huskies, her other half, also can be high prey drive.) Thousands of years of breeding and no apparent socialization in her younger life (or possibly flunked) means that it's just a part of her nature to want to chase down animals.
It's just nature and it's neither moral nor immoral for her, a dog with no concept of morality, to follow it.
... What would be immoral is to knowingly take in an animal whose dietary needs go against my beliefs and force them to follow my diet that doesn't properly sustain it.

Iā€™ll forever be annoyed that Malevolent doesnā€™t stop to recognize the significance of a PIANIST choosing to bite off part of his PINKIE FINGER. No matter the hand, the pinkie is maybe the second most important digit for piano playing, behind the thumb. (Second and third fingers, SIT BACK DOWN.)
Your pinkies are hyper-attuned to hit the right notes in a root chord, pick out an overall melody while the rest of your hand is playing a harmony, hell, itā€™s the start of most scales. As a pianist, Iā€™ve put years of procedural memory into training just my pinkie fingers to do their jobs and if I lost part of one I would be devastated, even as a hobbyist.
Thereā€™s so much symbolism potential there, too! I love that John in general has control of Arthurā€™s left hand, which on piano controls the low notes, the accompaniment to the melody, and the root and stability of almost anything you play. It mostly supports, though can sometimes intertwine with the right hand or branch off into cello-like melody of its own (chopin does this a lot itā€™s great). That conceptually fits John SO WELL. Not to mention the idea of Arthur being so guilt-ridden with Faroeā€™s death that he distances himself from being a pianist at any opportunity, only to be reeled in by an Eldritch force that explains EVERYTHING to him as pianoā€¦ the possibilities make me scream.
ā€¦Unfortunately though, I donā€™t buy the ā€˜the symbolism is thereā€™ argument for this one, itā€™s FAR too niche to expect the average audience to know what exactly a professional pianist would value (besides the ~oooooo no donā€™t break my hands~ beat that every pianist character in a thriller/horror/action story ever seems to have gone through at some point), and malevolent goes out of its way so often to explain symbolism.
I think my frustration is that Arthur having trauma surrounding piano, losing direct control of his left hand, and losing/replacing his top pinkie joint, doesnā€™t have many narrative consequences. (Didnā€™t even talk about how a wooden pinkie would probably fundamentally change the sound/timbre of your playing, which would be cool to see reflected.) Arthur seems to be able to play piano fine even with John controlling his hand, and enthusiastically does so at several points post- starting to process Faroeā€™s death in the dreamlands. Itā€™s fine as a narrative choice, thereā€™s a story to tell after all, but Iā€™ll always miss the character intricacy that could come from exploring these consequences and backstory specifics.

some direct accounts from @/nekophy (goth's creator) of an old lost post (bc of a blog issue) directly calling out joku's past mistakes from years ago
i want to iterate that this post is OLD.
despite it still needing to be taken into an account, this is an ages old drama and the ppl involved could have different opinions and/or have changed now, including joku.
i wouldn't know 'cuz i don't exactly care to pay attention if joku has changed or not, so take it with a grain of salt.
i'm only bringing the post back up again from the archives because anon asked.

All numbers are imaginary. Some are useful.
So, @lipshits-continuous (I like your blog very much!) was bringing to my attention someone who was, let's say, a little frustrated about having to learn "imaginary numbers". You know. They're not even real.
I don't want to write about that person specifically, I don't know them at all.
But.
My siblings in crisis.
There are no "real" numbers in this world. The act of counting is already an abstraction. If you have an apple and a pear, then counting them as two pieces of fruit is an act of forgetting all the properties that distinguish them and remembering only those that unite them. Same goes for two apples of course.
So the number 2 is already entirely imaginary. Made up. Nonsense.
This gets worse very quickly, by the way. You can't have negative apples! Sure, you can have positive fractions of apples, but I can assure you: Two halves of an apple do rarely make one apple, except when they are the two halves of the same apple. And even then: Having them cut up makes it impossible to rejoin them. Think about that.
Now you know where this is going, because let's talk about the so-called ""real"" numbers. Nasty little things. Have a look at the irrational numbers. First, there are comparatively tame irrationals: Algebraic numbers. These arise as roots of integer polynomials. You know, like our favorite, the square root of 2, the positive zero of X^2 - 2.
Did you know that the Pythagoreans believed that everything was in integer relation to each other. (For example: the lengths of a rectangular triangle could be 3-4-5, meanging one cathetus is 4/5, the other 3/5 the length of the hypotenuse.) And that when someone found out that sqrt(2) was indeed not in integer relation to, say, 1, they had him murdered? That didn't change the fact that they were wrong though. (This story is not true, of course, like all good stories. You could say: it is imaginary, but nonetheless an interesting tale to tell!)
And now, the non-algebraic, so called transcendent numbers. Like pi. We know (the abstract concept of) pi well enough to calculate the circumference of the observable universe up to the accuracy of a neutrino (or so they say, I'm not a physicist). We don't have to know it any better. We could quit at however many digits we know and that would be pi. Perfectly rational. Because if we are looking for """real""" numbers only, why should we ever even concern ourself with those nasty things?
Did you know that transcendent numbers make the vast majority of real line? Of course you do! Rationals are countable, integer polynomials are countable and thus are their roots. The real line is famously uncountable, so must be the transcendent numbers.
So. Our so called """"real"""" numbers are mostly non-precisely calculable numbers. (Arbitrarily precise, but not precise.)
Do you know what kind of numbers are used in electrical engineering? Me neither because I'm not an electrical engineer. That's right, complex numbers! Actual engineers have to actually work with the actually imaginary square roots of negative one.
Maybe Numbers aren't a thing of this world.
Maybe Abstraction is a thing of our worldview.
And maybe we can learn to cherish abstract math the way we learn to cherish abstract art: Not always a true representation of reality, but a thing of interest and beauty in itself.

Quietly chanting he's Jewish he's Jewish they're Jewish under my breath every time I come across a fic where the batfam celebrates Christmas
Like. Ok in the manor? Yeah ok. Jason is probably Catholic. Alfred is whatever. Dick? Maybe. Probably a mix of everything that was around in the circus. Like yes they can get a tree and do the Christmas stuff. Fine. But don't write about TIM (he's Jewish) bringing his long lost childhood dream of Christmas ā„¢ļø to the manor to celebrate it with Bruce let them have at least Hanukkah if we really need to and like yeah I'd struggle to write it myself since I'm not Jewish myself but how about a Jewish holiday that's not Hanukkah and completely different from Christmas but like I know there's ones that are more important than Hanukkah.

Well after... a bit trying to figuring out how to draw again i did a little drawing
Specificly a friend of mine who watch bocchi requested me if i could draw emo bocchi, and of course i had trouble with it
So of course because of that, i of course decided to redraw it... and also the whole band each with their own style... yeah
Tumblr media
So in order bocchi is emo, nijika is a gyaru, seika is a punk/crunch and kita is hipster (like the vintage kind)
Sooo yeah going a bit into specifs the og plan was to have them all be different types of emos... but i couldnt find distinc subcultures like gyarus or gothic, so i landed in the best next thing
Bocchi is the first i desing, and while i didnt change much from the way i originaly drew her, i changed her a bit so there wasnt so much contrastic black
Nijika was a bit more simple, althought my original plan was to give her a tan... but i kinda didnt want to mess too much with her
As for seika, originaly her desing was a little too much like bocchi so i tried to difference them as far as i could by enchanging some desing from one to another, tho i fear i should had make her pants black or grey
Kita was kinda fucked by lineart, part of me thinks that i could have come up with another color (as two characters here already use blues) but hey at least she sortha looks vintage (also yes i gave her a mustache pin, i thought that was a cute idea), tho those glasses could have been done better

odd question, but I'm transmasc and I wanna know what it's like being a trans girl as a minor /nf
Thatā€™s a good question. I mean. As a minor, its much harder to change all to much due to not having the final say on what to buy, where to go, etc. It makes it hard, especially when you want a lot of feminine traits, but canā€™t get them yet and you can only see masculine qualities. I want to be more feminine and have to deal with what people who are AFAB do, even if to most they sound like things they wouldnā€™t necessarily want, like a period. When you donā€™t get the final say on what you personally want to do, which most minors donā€™t, having to get a guardian to agree. Thatā€™s also if you even can provide the information that you are trans, which many, like myself, can not. This leaves me a bit hopeless to look and sound and operate how I want to. I do think at times that it is weird that I want some of these things. Some things that I personally want are what some who began with those things hate. It feels weird, making me feel confused, but it is not a super negative thing, but actually positive.

i made the mistake of checking the comments on riverdales instagrams post about tabitha and so many people were saying that tabitha brings nothing to the show. iā€™m sorry, are we talking about the same tabitha tate? the one who saved riverdale twice, once on her own at the last minute? the tabitha tate who gave up everything with the one she had fallen in love with so that he could at least be happy in the new reality and went on to work out how she could save riverdale again by herself for however long it would take? what makes me so sad is that i know if tabitha had come to riverdale and had just helped jughead get back with betty and went on to date reggie everyone would love her and worship her. literally what happened with jopaz is just happening with tabitha and people donā€™t like her and find her a worthless character because she dated jughead and heā€™s happy with someone who helped heal him and get over someone who broke his heart. but whatever. letā€™s imagine a riverdale without tabitha. do you see it? yeah everyoneā€™s dead and season 7 is the sweet hereafter. what a season to go out on without tabitha. percival also would have taken riverdale over so like. shut up.

If the mods had to pick their own groups of characters to become grand servants for each class, who would you all pick?
Mod Ip: there should only be one grand and it should be Gilgamesh (Legit though I think the concept of grands has been incredibly cheapened and genuinely the only servant I can think of who I care enough about to be grand is Gilgamesh. I think it fits with his whole shtick of being the oldest hero and the king of heroes)
Mod Pollux: I think Benkei
Mod Lolly: I also feel like they've kind of blown the concept of grands. grand archer should have been Arash I will fight u Nasu. Was also really disappointed by how they handled Noah, was hoping he'd be more directly related to Utnapishtim (and also you know not a nemoface arcade-exclusive with barely enough story to fill waifu of the month event on mobile) Also we all know Nasu wanted to make Artoria grand saber and we all know she'd fit the best anyway so he should just do it already

So. About Mirrorverse.
Yesterday I discovered that my former co-author for the Mirrorverse deleted her two stories that were part of the series off of ao3 and removed herself as a co-author of the series. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but that is when I found out about it. The two stories that she wrote both (though the former part 5 more than the former part 3) contain plot points that are important so the later parts of the series make sense.
I honestly haven't decided what to do yet. My first thought was just two write two new Mirrorverse fics to fill the gaps, and I do want the series to be properly whole once more.
But I honestly don't know if I'm going to be able to do it. The me of 12-16 months ago, when the earlier parts of Mirrorverse were written, is very different from the me of now. As a person and especially as a writer. Add to that every time I think about Mirrorverse I'm reminded of my former co-author, which normally results in my writing 'mood,' as it were, rather souring.
I want to write the fics. I really do. Mirrorverse was (and still is) my fanfic baby and I worked on it week-in, week-out for an entire year. I was (and still am) very proud of myself for seeing it through, especially because it was originally planned as a one-shot. I want it to be what it deserves to be, not a puzzle missing two very important pieces.
But I don't know if I'm going to be able to (or willing to) put myself through the level of emotional pain that will be involved in outlining and writing those two replacement fics.

if youā€™re going to lie and make a fake post for clout about ever after high coming back, just donā€™t please. ESPECIALLY ON TUMBLR. fans who want it back get excited and annoyed. it creates disinformation and therefore misinformation. also i DONā€™T want ever after high to be rebooted (which i have discussed many times) and i donā€™t want to see it or have that anxietyā€”ā€œoh no what if it comes back and they ruin everythingā€ ://
also. i have a very definitive outlook about this: ever after high is NOT coming back. i donā€™t believe that mattel can get away with it after everything with disney. plus (iā€™ve heard) mattel has started producing disneyā€™s dolls again and probably doesnā€™t want to risk that money-making partnership. the only viable time i can imagine they would reboot eah would be if the new mh reboot does REALLY WELL. and they have mga/specifically rainbow high to compete with, so iā€™d imagine they put all their resources into that.
the only reason my opinions on the monster high reboot are any different is because i joined the mh fandom post-reboot (gen 2) and since itā€™s already had a bad reboot, i didnā€™t care about mh gen 3. if i had been an mh fan before gen 2 i would have had the same feelings i do about eah.

šŸ”„!
Ok, let's do a recent horror opinion: I hate Ti West's X. Thematically, there's a lot to work with: the 70s, porn, exploitation film, beauty and ageing but in the end it says very little about anything. It's not even a good slasher! Even if you were to view it as pure pastiche it fails on every level. And I've enjoyed Mia Goth in other things but I got absolutely nothing from her performance in this one. I find the reviews even more baffling: in what world is X "authentic"?? I feel like we are so used to contemporary reinterpretations of the 70s that we forget to what filmmakers are supposedly paying homage. I'm taking this as my final cue to #believewomen and trust my own instincts and never watch Pearl. Cute that I share a namesake with a final girl though <3

Good friend jerry,
Other than your current format, what are some other ways to make posts look and feel more admech? I ask because i want to post images of my current army and more as they grow but like thematically.
Sincerely,
Me
funct.print ("[Excited] Hi Me-unit! Your name is confusing, and I love it! I dunno if there's a silver bullet to this question, but might I recommend adding a frame around your pictures before you upload them? I was teasing the idea a while ago when I was getting ready to snap some shots of my own minis, but I dropped it last second due to being lazy. :/ However you are more than welcome to pick that idea up and dust it off if you want to use it! More than anything, keep this in mind: if its a personal blog, reblog anything, if its a themed blog, try to sticking to reblogging things that fit the theme. Oh and reblog a lot. Your blog doesn't have to be just your posts, if its content people might enjoy, reblog it. You're giving the creator more eyes on their stuff and you're increasing the odds someone'll look at your stuff along the way. Reblog, reblog, reblog!!!");
funct.print ("[statement] ironically I've kinda been dumbing down the amount of thematic stuff. Not the roleplaying mind you, that's the whole point of the blog. :P As fun as it is to have things be more immersive, it's kinda become a pain to keep writing all of the code things at the beginning of everything I do on tumblr. So, I've mainly been keeping it to funct.print, green coding text, etc. etc. like on this post.");
funct.print ("[upbeat] of course, I still try to add the whole kit and kaboodle any time I feel like putting in the extra effort, but don't feel like you have to every time. I've found just doing whatever is the most comfortable for yourself works best, as most people will enjoy you having fun with your posts! Which is, y'know, why I'm still making posts! 'Snot like I get paid to do this. We aren't corperate social media accounts here, we aren't being held to a standard, we're people! It just so happens this people is a martian cyborg silly little guy, and you can be whatever kind of people you wanna be! Add a frame to photos, change the format of your text, post funny little things that make you chuckle even if it doesn't make anyone else chuckle, reblog silly cat photos that have nothing to do with your themeing!");
funct.print ("[sentimental] Because at the end of the day, you're just as much a mutual on your own blog than anyone else on this site. Make a blog you'd follow and reblog. Others who like the same thing will come eventually, just give it time. And remember to love yourself as much as I love you.");
funct.print ("[statement] Now go forth and post and reblog stuff! People don't wanna follow an empty blog! -Jerry <3");

Getting really tired of people acting like you're required to have a certain level of "knowledge" in order to enjoy being part of a fandom. I'm not even talking about the annoying peeps that insist you have to have a fucking Ph.D. level of understanding of a particular piece of media in order to make any sort of opinion, regardless of how minor it is.
I'm talking more about the people who just seem to repeatedly demand that you have to go out and do fucking homework in order to be a part of a fandom. Like you just have to have this prerequisite level of knowledge before you can openly state whether you like a character or not. Or to even just have a surface level take on a piece of media in order for your opinion to have any "validity."
Yes, it doesn't fucking hurt to know a little bit more about your current interest, especially if you wanna interact with others in said fandom. But also ... demanding people do "research" is absolutely obnoxious.
There's nothing special about knowing a little bit more about a piece of media than someone else when literally everyone has access to things like the internet or just the fucking media itself. Just interacting with a certain piece of media should be enough to be a part of a fandom, not all these ridiculous and nonsensical levels of gatekeeping that people keep trying to put in place.
Not only that, but it's so absolutely fucking rude to tell someone they're not enjoying a piece of media "properly." Especially if a particular fandom is notoriously massive with pieces of other supplementary pieces of media within that people can easily miss out on. It doesn't make you a "better fan" to put people down for not knowing something you don't. And it sure as fuck doesn't make you likable to insist someone isn't a "real fan" for not knowing extra bits of lore that you do.
The point of fandom is to have fun. I'm getting really tired of seeing people trying to belittle others in these pointeless "one-upmanship contests." Especially when you could be taking the opportunity to help someone love your favorite piece of media. Instead of treating them like shit, you could be linking them to some of your favorite bits of lore, or even recommending them supplementary material to go alongside the main piece of media they're currently into.
Acting like an asshole doesn't make anyone want to engage with you or the fandom you're a part of.
I'm really fucking tired of this fandom elitism that people are trying to pass off as "acceptable" behavior. Just because this shit can be expected in fandom spaces, doesn't mean it's okay.
Let people enjoy their blorbos and their shows, regardless of their level of interest/knowledge. For fuck's sake, who cares if they're a "real fan" or not? Stop getting involved in other people's business and just focus on having your own fun.
Tldr; I'm so fucking tired.
