ANYWAYS sob here is Darunia's official redesign for the OOT rewrite full notes and thought process below the cut:

All my goron designs involve giving them less cartoonish and caricature-like features and proportions, so of course that was the first thing I tackled here. I made him very square-and-solid looking. I wanted him to have an appearance that read both as very dignified and also very personable. One should be able to tell at a glance that he is someone who commands a great deal of respect and is worthy of that respect, while also being approachable and trustworthy. Simultaneously larger than life and down to earth. His expression is stern, but with an undertone of warmth. In the original game, Darunia seemed to me like a character who wasn't really meant to be taken seriously, but for our version we want to give the opposite impression. When Darunia speaks, you will listen. I intend for him to be a character that commands respect both from the other characters around him and from the audience as well.

Aside from that, his defining characteristics remain, especially his beard and hair which are what make his silhouette most easily distinguishable. Rather than changing very much I mostly just added more, like his accessories, clothes and tattoos. Many people in the past have pointed out that the gorons, in oot especially, have many elements that appear to be based off various cultures from across the African continent, but again, especially in oot, that was done rather insensitively. So I also decided to look to the west African region in particular for some inspiration for my Darunia redesign. I ended up using mostly references from Ghana after searching through a few different sources, and the traditional clothing there influenced how I dressed Darunia, like with the brightly coloured and patterned cloth of his waist-wrap thing and his sandals-- which from now on I have decided to draw all gorons wearing sandals. The cloth Darunia wears is not fully patterned like those from Ghana since I played around with a few different patterns before settling on this, but in the future I may try drawing something more 1-1.

His tattoos are also based off the Adinkra symbols. Researching the Adinkra symbols was very exciting and interesting for me, and there were many that were perfectly suited for the things I had planned. I didn't want to just copy them directly, so I made slightly altered versions of some of the symbols with their original meanings. My hope is that anyone familiar with the Adinkra symbols would easily recognize them as the source, and be able to tell which fantasy versions are derived from which real ones, with or without the meaning listed alongside it. The ones I referenced for Darunia specifically were the Dwennimmen, meaning humility and strength, the Akoben meaning vigilance and wariness-- which is depicted on his necklace-- the Nkonsonkonson meaning unity, or brotherhood, and the Aya meaning endurance and resourcefulness. The anvil symbol, the one representing Temna/creation/ingenuity, is one I invented imitating the existing symbols' style. I chose these for their meanings, which I feel represent Darunia's character well, and seem like the kinds of things he would value and choose for himself to wear.

The red tattoo sleeve framing the goron ruby is meant to represent streams of lava flowing down the mountainside. This one single element gave me more grief than any other part of the redesign, I went though so many drafts of just that one tattoo and it was what caused this redesign to take so long! Though now that I have emerged victorious from the bloodstained battlefield (clip studio paint), I am very pleased with the final result!

Also, you may notice that the ring on his left thumb looks remarkably like the game's power bracelet. That's because it is the power bracelet! I decided to change some stuff about the goron design I had for SOH because I didn’t like the hands and feet anymore and I just wanted to make them look more like sloths and less human. Also she fuckin wails on divine bongos and I think everyone should praise her for that.

rough goron design for my zelda comic, struggled with it for a while bc i didnt want to make their build too similar to demise, tho thematically it fits, ended up going for a more turtle-armadillo kind of approach and a tail just feels right for them and their habit of curling into a ball

since they are even older than the ones from skysw i figured it would still be plausible if they evolved into how they later looked from this

the mogma will need a slight redesign only and parakwa will mostly stay the same as in canon bc i think their goofy look just kinda fits xD

Alright so the vote results were in and it ended with a Tie so I decided to work on Shade next. I tried to have the design done yesterday but ran out of time and meant to finish earlier today but kinda lost track of time so here it is at 12:00am. Not as much but as usual further information is under the cut.

Also sorry for any confusion for the information below, trying to explain without giving too much away again. Planning on writing a story and posting on Ao3 as I go. If I do that I will share a link the in Pinned Master Post.

THE HERO

The Hero of Termina, was not quite a hero and more a vessel created by the Goddesses to reform/house the shattered soul of their first hero. During the spread of the corruption later known as Malice the first hero used an ability that he had to seal Ganon and the corruption controlling him in a prison that he and Hylia made. Though as the years continued the Malice was able to alter the prison to it's liking and further broke apart the Hero's soul. It was during this time that forces on the outside of the prison were working to find a way to release their master so the Goddesses needed to return the Hero to one piece to stop them.

THE MASKS

The masks found throughout Termina are actually the fragments of the first hero's soul that was broken when the seal to hold Malice was initially established. It was at this point that the soul had remained broken so long it was no longer able to repair itself without outside aid, this in the form of the vessel created and sent by the Goddesses.

THE FIERCE DEITY

The Fierce Deity, as it is known in Termina, is in fact the remnants of the first hero's soul reformed, though after so long of being in pieces it is no longer able to recall it's original life or memories. With this the seal that help Malice was broken and it was able to break free. (This in the timeline is where the events of Skyward Sword begin as the seal holding demise begins weakening)

Does Liz retain the color changing abilities? i'm imagining her going to sleep all disguised, but having changed her colors to resemble words and paintings in her sleep by accident. Link, who at this point is able to recognizes her compared to other lizalfos, snaps a photo to send to his friends, Doesn't kill her, and just leaves

yes she can change colors!! Lizalfos don't sleep, it makes them hard to sneak up on at night, but i've decided they can enter torpor, which is a sort of temporary hibernation. it happens during sudden temperature changes, especially cold, or when food is scarce. i've walked past a lot of camouflaged Lizaflos that tilt their head to watch me but don't attack, even when i'm pretty close, which is the game mechanic i'm copping for this

during torpor, a Lizalfos will subconsciously keep themselves camouflaged by copying the colors around them, shifting to match if something changes like with the movement of the sun. their eyes don't close, but they aren't intelligently processing what it is they're looking at, so they might accidentally copy a blob of color without realizing that's a passing animal, or a person. it usually lasts hours, sometimes days if things are bad, but it doesn't happen nearly as often as sleep does and is always accompanied by automatic camouflaging. otherwise, when awake they've got pretty sophisticating color changing, and i think Liz would experiment with the words thing, that's clever, i like that

not exactly what you said but it did give me a cute idea i had to draw. Liz just wanted to wait out the cold snap with a pillow and blankie, already in the perfect spot to sunbathe when the clouds clear up. meanwhile Link only realizes she's there when she matches his outfit

totk Yunobo redesign because tbh his new look just does not spark joy the gold and white doesn't suit him.... sob. So I went ahead and just did whatever I wanted. For some reason mod Anon actually liked the leopard print vest... 😨(i say this affectionately ofc) They wanted to incorporate some kind of animal print and I was trying my best I really was but I just couldn't land on anything I actually liked so the snakeskin was our compromise.

Yunobo wears three pins on his vest: one identifies him as a healer, one as a Death Mountain civil council member and one as a mining coordinator. He's a busy guy!

I decided to do some redesigns for the various non-human races for Recalled! I'll include my final designs, some sketches, as well as my general headcanons for each race!

Gorons-

Gorons are large reptiles that prefer to inhabit mountains, due to the rich minerals there

Gorons are omnivorous, eating whatever they feel like. They're called 'Rock-eaters', due to the fact that they seek out mineral deposits to eat.

They need to eat large amounts of minerals in order to grow their scales and shells

They reproduce asexually

Only one gender: Goron

master builders. They develop earthquake-proof buildings due to living on volcanos

Rito-

Rito have no sexual dimorphism. Rito genders are 'Warrior', 'Pilgrim', and 'Nester', and genders aren't determined by who can lay eggs and who can't.

Nester plumage is far more colorful, vibrant, and soft than Warrior plumage. Pilgrim plumage is the most dull/earth toned, and the most weather proof.

Rito plumage changes based on which gender they've assumed, and it's pretty common for Rito to flip between genders a lot throughout their lives

Rito have the best senses of sight and hearing out of any other race, though their night vision is non-existent

Rito are the best at archery/bow making, and weaving

Zora-

Zora have three genders, Male, Female, and Royal

Royals are the largest of the Zora. Any Zora can become a Royal, if they are chosen by the current Royal. If they become a Royal, they grow much larger, and their head fins grow longer.

Their Fins can retract, protecting them while they're on land and preventing them from drying out.

their large fins are used for swimming up waterfalls/through powerful currents.

Zora breathe through both gills, and absorbing oxygen into their skin. This limits their ability to travel, as they need to stay near bodies of water to prevent drying out.

Fins and spots are bioluminescent, and Zora use these lights, mixed with signing to communicate while under water.

Zora have the best stone/silver work out of all the races. due to their long lives, they take their time learning to perfect whatever craft they chose

Zonai-

Zonai are descendants of the Minish that returned to the sky

due to having lived in the Sacred Realm for so long, they are the most in-tune with magic out of any other race

most Zonai are born with general magic abilities (Ascend, Ultrahand, Fuse) but others are born with elemental magic, which then influences their coloration and horn growth.

they specialize in creative and scholarly crafts as well as alchemy and diplomacy

during the 200 years between when they descended from the heavens and the time of King Rauru, their race was slowly ravaged by diseases and plagues, due to them having little to no immune system(there's no illnesses in the Sacred Realm)

@scopophobia-polaris asked for some more details on this silly guy and I needed to post the redesign of his scars so I'm gonna ramble!

General "rules" I am using for the Bad Moon AU:

-You cannot change the future. If you saw the future, it happens. Maybe not to you, but it happens. Time travel either involves splitting timelines, temporal loops (see the song of storms), or two extremely similar timelines that collapse together (a dumb child goes to the past to plant beans). What does this mean for Termina? OH GOD OH GOD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TINY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

-If you turn into something, you will never entirely turn back.

-Two opposing wishes on the Tri Force will really fuck things up. Also, it happened. Bad Moon is about dealing with the fallout.

Tiny has a series of magic scars from his various transformations. Most of them are benign or beneficial due to Farore's blessing and the Fierce Deity's Mask's intervention, but not all. Believe it or not, this is me nerfing him, because I'm getting rid of all the Terminian masks except for the FD's mask, which gets broken.

-From the Deku mask he has ivy vines. Most are centered along his spine. He uses them to hold stuff. If he sleeps in fertile soil they will grow into the ground and he leaves weird plants that are sort of beholden to him all over the place. Gross. Anyways, remember how the Hero's Shade is covered in ivy? The "missing" eye is also more or less a Deku scrub's pitlike eye now, granting him low-light but otherwise mediocre vision in that eye.

-From the Goron mask he is disturbingly strong now. Most of Farore's blessed are pretty strong to begin with and now he's got Darmani's strength on top of that. His teeth are continuously growing and need to be worn down by grinding them on each other (because he's missing a tooth from that facial scar those teeth are maloccluded and grow all weird). It's definitely inspired by wrathful deity artwork though. He's also extremely resistant to heat. He got the white hair and scales on his shoulders/knees/elbows from Darmani too. Guess what part of his magic scarring the Hero of Twilight inherits!

-From the Zora mask he has some extremely strong scales on his forearms that can be used to defend himself. He can also make nasty electrical shocks, is very resistant to electrocution, is an extremely good swimmer (nowhere near as good as Mikau though), and can hold his breath for twenty minutes easily. His toes are webbed too.

-From the Giant's mask his height just kinda varies. His "true" height is over seven feet tall but it can vary between about 6"/15cm in either direction. He has some control over this but it's more related to his sense of security. He's at his smallest when he's the most insecure but like, that's still 6'10"/208 cm so he's still way too big. Lucky for him the magic also affects his clothes/armor but it takes some time so he just makes/buys things on the larger end and waits for them to shrink to his current size. The effect goes away when removed from his body. Is this so I don't have to be consistent? Yes.

-He turns into a puppy in the War of Eras when he's ten and Zant uses the twilight as a weapon. Specifically an epicyon puppy! A 100lb/45kg puppy! Medli will ride him! I just want to draw the biggest puppy in the world. He can still turn into the big ancient wolf, and thankfully it doesn't do too much to him (unlike Twilink) but his jaw attaches waaay further back than it ought to and he can open his mouth to a scary degree. It's probably influencing those big fangs too. Combined with the Goron bite strength and... yeah.

I'll probably change things because I'm just playing around with him, so don't be surprised when I do!

Hi…so dragons in my au

Im still thinking what kind of roll I would give to the dragon girlies I’ll have to think abt it carefully. I think more than a year ago I redesigned the dragons for my au, but now that I have a solid design of the Golden Goddesses I decided to go back to my old au designs and revamp them.

So in my LF au but also my GG au the Golden Goddesses in a last ditch effort they become dragons and leave behind the triforce. Their names have been altered and changed by the course of time so that is why their dragon counterparts have different names from their original form.

So Nayru -> Naydra, Farore -> Farosh, Din -> Dinnral

Now to their designs (tee hee <3) if u already have seen my designs of the Golden Girlies u already know I’ll implement their race heavily on to their dragon designs. Along w some other stuff

Let start w Farosh

She’s a Minish! Tbh she would probably be the “closest” one to the canon designs. But I do have a few ref ideas I would like to implement to her dragon design. Red Ruffed Lemurs for head shape and also the eyes ❤️(and maybe fur also) and having a slim reptilian body. She’s the simplest out of the two but that is mostly cause I have a clear idea of her.

OK FINALLY NAYDRA

She’s going to be the unique one out of the bunch as the other two would fly constantly. Naydra will mostly stick to the water regions of Hyrule and occasionally go on the cold snowy mountains of Lanayru. I’ll go w a salamander/axolotl approach to her design, and just to be freaky w it I’ll give her human-like teeth like those types of fishes in replacement of dragon teeth
