watching people on this site try to recommend media is fucking hilarious like from a gorefilled horror blogger being recommended childrens cartoons in response to a post about lesbian sex and the words "if you want a good frankenstein adaptation watch monster high" im starting to think none of you understand what recommendations are supposed to be. like for a site that loves tropes you all are startlingly bad at understanding what genres are for.

tristan pours over book after book, desperate to find a way to severe this foul connection to the goddess of night. he doesn’t know how long he pours over the pages, but after what feels like a lifetime of being disconnected from his mother, he thinks he knows the answer. 

the ambrosia tastes bitter on his tongue as he gulps it down without thinking. that familiar sense of drunkenness doesn’t hit him the same, it takes much less for some odd reason—maybe the fractured connection is effecting him more than he’s realized. 

and then he begins to pray, to plead to his mother. 

he falls to the floor before his mother’s alter, the dagger of nyx before him. his words are a hoarse cry that fall upon deaf ears. his eyes search his mother’s statue as if they’ll give him some form of clarify, some sense of self worth that’s been lost due to this strange fascination with a goddess who wants nothing more than to see the night kill the last ounce of hope in the world. 

then it happens once more. 

the temple fades and he’s brought back to that same dark, ghostly forest. the stag’s purple glowing eyes stare him down as if it can see right through him. the gorefilled antlers tilt down as its massive form shifts, getting ready to charge. 

but it doesn’t. there’s nothing there, no words of abandonment, no disconnection. just the visceral image of a large stag, black wisps of mist cascading from large shoulders, around the large antlers, to the forest floor they stand in. 

tristan can’t move as he stares, a feeling of emptiness growing in the pit of his stomach until his vision fades out again. 

he’s back at the temple of the god’s, the dagger still before him. tears have cascaded down his face, fallen to the marble. 

he loses track of time, a throbbing headache overcomes him as he sits before his mother’s statue, every now and then pleading for her forgiveness, for her to accept him back into her life, to accept her son.

the hours tick, the darkness because to turn light, and then, just before dawn, he feels it.

that sliver of hope that blossoms like a seed, flourishes throughout his body like a garden. a river of joy rushes through him as he looks up at his mother’s statue, his head still throbbing, his chest still aching, but it’s there.

the connection.

it’s there.

I'm fairly new to the horror genre but I do have basic knowledge on some characters through friends of mine. Unfortunately I have no clue what to watch as a newbie and I can't ask my mom because she can't watch horror movies and my dad only really knows the Halloween movies(I watched the first one with him). Any recommendations? I can handle gore and jump scares pretty well.

‘s Okay! I do totally have some recommendations. Please note I’m saying from memory what streaming services these are on (and I only have Hulu myself) so if I’m wrong I’m really sorry!

So Classics: Friday The 13th: Not necessarily my favorite.But they’re good! somewhere I have a whole box set (I think it got lost in my move :( ) The original group of movies are all up on Hulu! I know this one for a fact because I watched the first two recently. I know that several months ago Jason X was on Netflix so that might be there if you like kinda more...comedy horror. Decent amounts of gore? Like...the amount you would expect

Scream: The first and fourth one are good. I don’t know if the fourth one is on Netflix, but I’m pretty sure the first one is so! Not that much gore outside of the opening tbh. The movies mainly stabs and guns.

Childs Play: The first two (?) actual Childs Play movies are on Hulu currently. Curse of Chucky, and the other new one are both on Netflix too. I doubt it’s on there now, but Seed of Chucky was also on Netflix for a time (but my memory on that is way too old to say for sure) also not that gorey minus like...computer-y gore. Melting robot face.

Evil Dead: Sadly I don’t know any nonshady streaming sites to watch the Evil Dead movies on. I mean there’s a super zoomed in version of Army of Darkness on youtube though if that’s your thing. Comedic levels of blood and gore at times. The first one gave my roommate nightmares, but he’s a baby so?

House of A Thousand Corpses and Devils Rejects: what exactly is going on in these movies??? IDK. I’ve watched House of A Thousand Corpses like 3 times but I dissociate like a mother fucker through it. But I like Otis Driftwood, and I like Rob Zombie’s gorefilled movies so.... I don’t know about streaming sights carying either of these tbh. But definitely up there on the gore counter.

Hush: I like this movie! It’s neat for what it is :) I can’t remember but I don’t think it’s super gorey? It was on Netflix for a time (thats where i originally watched it) but I can’t confirm that.

Honorable Mentions: Nightshift/Killer Nightshift: I liked this movie...it’s very unique and deserves recognition. I believe it’s on Tubi for free with adds? Blood types of gore? oh and some skin stuff.  Hang Man: Honestly another movie I’m recommending even though I don’t think many people know about it because I really liked it. Very spooky. Not super gorey either, but it has some non gore gross moments like SPITTING IN THE ORANGE JUICE CONTAINER LIKE AN ANIMAL
