Hi! My name is Sea, and I like to collect things. 🌿

Specifically, as of February this year, I have made it my mission to collect as many resources for the Final Fantasy community as I can; including, but not limited to: Communities, Events, Free Companies, How-To Guides, Lore, Tools and more! I have compiled them into Sea's Community Compendium for FFXIV Creatives, a venture I hope will service as a directory for new and old FFXIV players alike to find places and things they might not otherwise know about, and I'm proud to say that the Compendium has over a hundred individual entries!

...But I want more.

Specifically, as much as this is a call to introduce new people to the Compendium, it is a call for anyone who might know of specific resources/communities that not in the document to take a moment's time out of their day to let me know about them. You can submit specific resources via:

You do not need to be a resource/server owner to submit; there just needs to be a publicly accessible link. ✨

Projects like mine equally cannot survive without the support of the community. If you like what I do, please reblog this post or share it with your friends; post it in your community servers or link it on your social media(s). The more visibility I get, the larger the Compendium becomes and the more likely you are to find a resource or community to suit your needs.

Okay, but really, Is my space suitable for the Compendium? Most of the time, yes! Below the read more is some more information/stipulations. This is all publicly available on the document.

Below are the following things I do not accept on the Compendium:

Personal/Single-Character LFC ads. (Though these get posted to the SEAFLOOR Tumblr Community when I find them!)

Content intended for or can be used for bullying, harassment and OOC gossip. E.g. ‘Secrets’ blogs, receipts, callout posts, etc. This does not include IC tabloid blogs or other ventures used to generate roleplay.

Communities that do not have an RP/writing element (large-scale exempt).

Anything I find personally distasteful or goes against the spirit of this project.

I want to put my community on the Compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

I want to put my Community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community/resource on the Compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it. The same goes for resources; if it's relevant to the game, it'll be useful to someone.

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, contact me asap!

My best advice is to set up everything quickly.

Like, really quickly

This way your blog doesn't look empty or anything - and looks more appealing to the eye.

(It is better to have no banner than no pfp. I recommend searching for a flag or logo - or something else, depending on what it is - on google. If you are joining the countryverse, click on anything that says r/vexillology, they're usually pretty good

3. Ask box OPEN, anons ON, media ON.

4. Set up a blog theme - see how I have red and yellow? And the font?

5. Simple pinned post introducing the gimmick

It can be simple. On a lot of my gimmicks it's rlly simple, like:

7. Nothing in roleplay is real or is meant to affect you irl. People may attack you in the gimmickverse. This does not reflect how they think about you

In fact, people are more likely to attack a gimmick they like

By attack, I mean RPing as like... sneaking into your secret base and trying to hit you with a weapon

8. You can make your character immortal, but they still can be defeated. If somebody attacks you, ya gotta take the L sometimes -- you can always resurrect

9. AND TO THE LORE PART! You do not have to start with lore. It can be made up as you go along.

10. If you are to start with lore, do not make lore about how they will find the lore. Don't do that part. This is allllll improv - nobody has a script, do not make one.

wibta if i asked someone to adjust how they’re writing a blind character?

this is also rp related 👋 i’m 24. you can use any pronouns for me. i’m legally blind and use screen readers to navigate the internet. i work from home which gives me a lot of freedom, so i fill my time in multi fandom rp servers. they’re a lot of fun, usually

in one server i’m in, there’s someone (28nb) writing a blind character. it’s not an oc of theirs, and the source the character is from is sort of… bad at handling the character’s disability. not offensively bad, it’s just obvious the writers didn’t put much thought into it

i know the person writing the character is not blind. here is my problem: the way they write this character concerning their disability is just… it’s really uncomfortable. the first thing i noted was that they went out of their way to mention the character is blind at basically every opportunity. most conventions the character is in they end up bringing it up, like it’s the default topic they turn to when roleplaying the character. and obviously, as a blind person, i understand it’s a big part of our lives, but to bring it up every single conversation? they had the character make an offhand comment about how they would probably struggle to learn the names of the stores in the area (??? i assume because they wouldn’t be able to read the signs, but there are plenty of other ways to learn store names?) and in another instance the character asked another character to do a google search for them, claiming they couldn’t do it themself. there are just a lot of instances of them obviously over exaggerating how difficult some mundane tasks would be for a person who is blind, in a way that comes off as belittling

the thing that really got to me though is the fact that - despite writing a character who uses a screen reader - this person clearly as no idea how screen readers function or what they do. ic, their character (character a) fussed at another character (character b) for having a slightly erratic typing style. character b does make a lot of typos, but their messages are by no means unreadable. screen readers can be pretty smart and often know how to sound things out. but character a was making a stink about character b saying things like “oki” claiming it was unreadable. any actual, decent screen reader wouldn’t have a problem with that. my screen reader doesn’t have a problem with it, i can interact with character b fine and i always have. i was literally sitting there listening to them complain about messages being unreadable by a screen reader and using a screen reader to understand those “unreadable” messages

it’s so, so obvious that this person has but no work or effort at all into understanding the disability they are trying to write here. it’s extremely uncomfortable. i don’t think it’s done out of malice, but it is lazy and, i’ll say it, reeks of ableism. on one hand i feel bad for trying to dictate how people write their characters, but on the other i feel justified in pointing it out, as someone who is blind. but also this is a casual rp server for fun so it’s… maybe not a big deal? wibta if i asked them to maybe do some research and fix their writing accordingly?

Here are some fun and important and fun things to know about Krow Jones from the Radiant Souls AU!

Krow is 18 years old, almost 19, during the events of the movie. His birthday is in early November and he meets Yukito in December, so both he and Yukito are 19 when they meet.

He is transmasc. While AFAB, sometime within his youth he decided he didn't feel like a girl and didn't want to be one. He started HRT when he was 14 and had top surgery when he was 17.

Krow is bisexual and attracted to many genders and species. But he does not know this until after he settles down in the present timeline and has time to think about things like that. Due to growing up surrounded by mutants and Yōkai, he doesn't find being attracted to non-humans weird in the slightest, and is in fact surprised when many humans say they aren't.

Personality-wise, Krow is compassionate, sweet, and endearingly sincere. He is serious when under stress, but when he relaxes he is quite goofy and playful. He is curious, loyal, and courageous. But he can be blunt and sarcastic. He has a temper and is prone to jealousy and wanting revenge. Though he tries to be fair, due to his high expectations of others he can sometimes be overly critical and hypocritical. But he always has his heart in the right place and tries his best to exert self-control, keep his flaws in-check, and maintain an air of maturity.

When he comes across new words or things he doesn't know, he tends to misremember or mispronounce the names in funny ways without meaning to. In roleplay, he's mispronounced charcuterie as "shark-cooch-tarry" or called the Guggenheim Museum as the "Google High".

While not knowledgeable about many things since he didn't have much of a formal education, he's clever and street-smart. He knows how to improvise and strategize, and he is good at solving puzzles. He's not great with comebacks most of the time, but he does like wordplay and puns. (He usually appreciates Ace's (Leo's) humor when no one else does.)

He is an extremely bad liar. So much so that it's painful to watch him lie. This is usually pretty humorous since he tends to behave anxiously whenever he lies and becomes a ball of sweat.

He is vulnerable in some ways. He wouldn't knowingly and willingly give information to an enemy or anything, and he doesn't purposely rat people out since he's very loyal to his family/friends/causes. But he's easily manipulated and his emotions are easily toyed with.

He is easily embarrassed or flustered in social situations. When he blushes, the tips of his ears go red and it soon spreads to his whole face. It is adorable.

Krow is very easy to tease. Because he never had a sibling growing up, he never quite caught onto the strategy of "don't give someone who's annoying you a reaction". He tends to react to everything and doesn't ignore those who annoy him. Characters who like to tease have a lot of fun around him.

The mask he wears was originally his mother's mask. After she died and he entered the war, it was modified for his use in battle by Jett (Donnie).

Jett wanted to make sure that Krow was going to be as protected as possible, so the tech inside the mask is meant to help him out as much as it can. It can do things like calculate trajectories and timing for him, so it's best for him to have his mask on while in battle or swinging with his grappling hook.

Krow wears his heart on his sleeve and has ever since he was little. He's very expressive; his facial expressions and tone of voice give away everything that he's feeling, and he has a lot of trouble with hiding it.

The Future turtles were concerned about Krow being so vulnerable, so when his mother died they encouraged him to keep and wear the mask when he feels scared, anxious, or sad. The mask acts as a security blanket for him and he hides his negative emotions with it. If he has it on him when he is feeling bad and wants to hide, he flips it down. He literally masks up to emotionally mask.

When Krow was young he was given various age-appropriate tasks to help around at the Base. Due to the large amount of things that needed to be done, he has broad skills and knowledge. He sort of became a jack-of-all-trades kid. As an older teen he's fairly self-sufficient and knows how to clean, cook, fix things, give first aid, and care for others.

Krow started training to fight when he was about 8 years old, some time after his mom died. Master Ace (Leo) thought it would be good for him and might also help him emotionally. Krow started out with basic Lou Jitsu-style martial arts. He was not allowed to use a bladed weapon until he was 12 and until that age was trained exclusively with wooden sticks, staffs, or any non-lethal blunt object.

Krow had a specific job in the war as a scout, messenger, and courier. It was his job to scout out areas and communicate with the Base and the other Resistance soldiers about what was going on so they could better strategize. He knows how to identify different types of Krang exosuits and ships from a distance and is good at investigation and patrolling. He was also often sent on missions to send messages or retrieve/deliver objects that were too important for regular drones to take care of. (Drones were often easily shot down or seized by the Krang whereas a person had a higher chance of success.) Later on in the war when the Resistance's numbers dwindled and he was older, Krow's role became less specialized and he was also fighting on the front lines a lot as a regular soldier.

He is farsighted. He can see things from a distance really well which was great for his job in the war, but he has trouble with seeing things up close. He needs reading glasses. No one noticed this because the majority of the reading Krow needed to do was mission notes and messages within his mask, so others couldn't really see him squinting. He also learned that he can read better up close if he relaxes his eyes/goes cross-eyed for a moment then refocuses.

Krow, like a crow, is a scavenger and loves to pick up random objects off the ground that catch his eye. He's drawn to things that are colorful and shiny - cool rocks, flowers, glass shards, coins, trash, trinkets, anything really. (This guy would go ham in a gift shop, do not bring him into one unless you're willing to spend hours in there.) When not on duty, he fills his pockets and bag with the things he finds. He amasses collections of things that he likes and stashes them away in secret spots.

Little things bring him a lot of joy and he tends to assume it brings other people the same amount of joy. Because of this, if he likes someone then he is going to give them the random things he finds as gifts, regardless of whether or not they actually want these things. Gift-giving is one of his expressions of love. The better he knows someone the more thoughtful he might be about it - for example, he might give someone things that are their favorite color.

He always wants to feel helpful in some way and feels anxious when he can't help. He tends to serve others before himself and act as support. If he can't do much, you'll often find him doing menial tasks or manual labor. This makes him a wonderful carer when people around him are ill or injured. He's also great at getting chores done.

He is certainly his mother's son: he has so much undiagnosed ADHD. It's just expressed differently than his mother. He's not spontaneously loud and brash like her, but he certainly cannot sit still for long periods of time and always needs to be on the move. He's often pacing around or fidgeting, and he's very expressive with his hand motions and gestures. He's also quite mentally restless, especially when stressed, and tends to overthink.

Because of his restlessness and curiosity, some of his favorite things to do are simply wandering around and people watching. This makes daily life in present-day NYC immensely interesting to him. He doesn't like crowds so he'll often be on the top of buildings and watch activities from afar. This behavior leads into his life as a vigilante slightly later on, as he tends to catch a lot of crime when he's watching from up high. He's like a heroic crow carefully watching the scene before swooping in to help others and swiftly deliver justice.

Krow is highly adaptable, so given time he learns and adjusts fairly well to life in the present timeline. He is, however, an older teen who wants to be independent and does not want to feel like a burden, so he's itching to figure out how to make it on his own. He's past high school age and has no interest in school, nor is he confident that he could do well in it. A year or so after he's been in the present, he starts to look for jobs and apartments.

Present Jett forged documents for Krow so he could get a job, and Present Angel (April) helped him with other job things like interviews. Krow's first few jobs were in things like retail and fast food, which he could not stand and wouldn't be at them for very long. He's not socialized to believe the customer (or boss) is always right. He can be quite blunt or have a temper and speaks his mind about what he believes is right, so he's very fire-able despite any other good work he does.

Krow eventually lands a day job that he tolerates and comes to enjoy, which is being an ice technician and groundskeeper for a local ice rink. It's there that he learns that he loves ice skating and ice hockey, because he often watches games and competitions. (It's a little funny that he has to work in slightly chilly conditions considering he hates the cold, so he's often bundled up for work.)

By the time he is in his late 20s to 30s, he's far more emotionally/mentally stable and has matured. He seems to have mellowed out a lot, and he channels a lot of his anger and any resentment into his fighting and vigilante work. He kind of leans more into being edgy when he's older because he uses this edgy persona to be intimidating. (And he is still a bit edgy on the inside.) But he's still the same lovable dork too.

I could probably go on and on about this guy but I'll stop here for everyone's sake. But there ya go! Lots of info about him.

As for the whole “Lexy automatically getting clean at rehab within a month” thing. I think that's very weird too because, as you said, rehab takes a lot longer than a damn month.

Hell, I literally have four Chucky OC's and I recently wrote In that one of them had a past addiction after his Mom died and then he was sent to Incarnate Lord at the start of his addiction. I literally wrote In that It took him a whole YEAR to get completely clean with the help of Nadine! And even then, he didn't go to rehab AND he had multiple relapses throughout that year. Hell, he still has Impulses to do so every now and again!

My whole point on this Is how Is It that I, someone who doesn't consider herself a professional writer and does roleplay and fanfiction for fun, can write a semi-more accurate depiction on how healing from addiction works rather than an older man who does consider himself a professional?

Right. I did end up ranting, and I didn't mean to, lol. I literally only lurk on Twitter for updates on the show since it's the quickest way for me.

And absolutely. I thought it seemed odd when it was mentioned in season two. I am by no means an expert, but it literally took me a quick Google search to find out that most programs last about 6-8 weeks and that isn't counting relapses or anything like that.

Like I said before, I don't expect the show to be completely serious. One of my favourite things about the franchise is the comedy, and that applies to the show as well. But if Don wants to add serious plots like Lexy's addiction, I think that does need to be treated seriously and properly researched.

A really slow developing relationship especially since Ryoma is afraid of getting close to people and Gonta is inexperienced with relationships

They collect bugs together!! Ryoma likes to help Gonta out by using shukuchi method to catch fast bugs…

They tend to spend a lot of time in nature, mostly because Gonta likes to look at bugs and plants… Ryoma doesn’t mind, he likes the breath of fresh air.

They go on walks often and Gonta likes to point out and explain stuff he sees… Ryoma likes to listen to him ramble…

Ryoma is the type of guy to put a bug outside if he sees one, sometimes he brings it to Gonta if he sees one in his room.

Ryoma sometimes plays tennis with Gonta, he’s not surprised at how hard his serves are, but he could work on his aim more… He likes how Gonta doesn’t mind when he wins

With Gonta, Ryoma is at his most vulnerable… he feels so safe with him,,, sobs…

They really like to hold hands… Ryoma’s hands are always cold and Gonta’s are always warm… Ryoma loves the feeling of just having his hand completely warmed and covered by the other’s… [though Gonta flinches at how cold af his hands are SOBS]

Gonta respects Ryoma’s boundaries and tries his best not to impulsively touch him [sometimes he does it by accident but he quickly apologises],,, eventually he gets comfortable enough to display affection more physically.

Ryoma likes to pat Gonta whether it's on the shoulder, back [and sometimes head!!] Gonta tends to make a little ‘mph!’ sound when this happens and it makes Ryoma all flustered…

Ryoma’s a little adverse to PDA, at least when it comes to kissing and such, that stuff is more intimate to him,,, only he and Gonta deserve to see that…

Cuddling… yes… Ryoma is so small in Gonta’s hold,, it's so comforting

Ryoma has quite a few scars from getting involved with the mafia and such… Gonta notices them but remembers once that kissing a wound would make it feel better! So sometimes when they’re alone he presses little kisses on Ryoma’s scars…

[this one is actually referenced in salmon team] Ryoma likes to hear the breathing of someone sleeping next to him [not in a weird way] he sees it as a sign that the other is alive and well… one day, Ryoma tells this to Gonta so now sometimes when they’re cuddling, Gonta whispers nice things to him while the other thinks he’s asleep…

Gonta also sometimes giggles and mumbles in his sleep which makes Ryoma happy to hear…

Gonta gets lost in fantasies a lot, when he’s with Ryoma he might ask him to act them out with him… Ryoma doesn’t mind a bit, he finds it pretty endearing actually…

When he gets closer to Ryoma he tends to be more intimate when it comes to his fantasies [not like that…] like asking to roleplay being a married couple or having a kid… this makes Ryoma flustered as hell but he tries to play along as genuinely as he can [this is probably how Altas happened LMAO]

FAQ

What counts as a mirror universe?

According to Fanlore, a mirror universe is any alternate universe which is a dark reflection (pun intended) of the original. Whether this is the mirror universe we see in the shows or in beta canon, or a completely new universe that is simply not as kind to our characters as the original is up to you. Keep in mind that this zine focuses on and embraces the more "evil" aspects of those universes.

What can I submit to the zine?

Writing (fic and poetry) and art (traditional or digital, including comics) can all be submitted. We don't accept manips, meta essays (essays written in-universe may be allowed), mood boards, or anything that can't be printed, such as vids and podfics. Fics must not exceed 25,000 words, though depending on quality and number of submissions we may choose more, shorter works over fewer, longer ones. There is no lower limit for writing. Art must be completed, which means no sketches. Traditional art should be scanned, 300p. Written files should be .docx or .pdf, and art files should be .png, .jpg or .tiff. Links to Google Docs are also accepted.

Is there anything I can't write about?

Despite this zine embracing and encouraging potentially controversial subject matters, there are a few things we won't accept. Generally speaking, though, unless you're writing nazi roleplay erotica (for example) we're not likely to reject your fic on subject matter alone.

What show/ship/characters does the zine focus on?

Ideally, all of them. We'd like for this to be an all-Trek zine. However, if we get an overwhelming majority of one series we may end up rejecting a single work from a different one, even if it normally would have gotten in, just to keep everything cohesive. Either way, we will not accept OC-centric works.

Can I submit a work that has been published somewhere else? e.g. AO3, another zine, ect.

No. We only accept new works.

Does my work need to be beta read before submission?

Preferably, yes. We will edit works which have been accepted and which require it. All works in the zine will match in editing style, though we'll try to keep the author's style intact.

If I submit multiple works, how many are likely to get in?

We would prefer to give as many creators an opportunity to participate as possible, but if there is room or your works are particularly fitting, we will include multiple.

Do I need experience to submit works?

No. We will gladly accept works from new creators.

Do I need to join the discord server to participate?

No. The server gives you easier access to the editor, granting quicker answers to any questions you may have, as well as general accountability and greater sense of community, but that is all.

How do you match fic and art?

Ideally, we will have some solid matches from the get-go. If necessary, we will ask submitters who have volunteered to pinch hit for fics with no art. Art with no matches will separate poems or end up on one of the covers.

Will there be merch?

Possibly.

After the zine is published, can I post my work to AO3/social media?

We reserve printing rights for six months after publication (the day printed zines will be shipped). After that, you may do with your work as you wish.

How much will the zine cost?

This depends on a number of factors. However, we will endeavour to keep the zine as cheap as possible. We cannot legally make money off of fanworks, nor do we wish to. A free pdf copy of the zine will be sent to everyone who has purchased a physical copy, and these digital copies will be available to purchase at a much discounted price.

As a extension of the last question, how about the Afton Family's favourite TV shows of the era? Well, give or take William, as I highly doubt he looks any higher on them as he does films or games...

You'd be correct, he also does not like watching television unless he's asked to. But besides William being a total dud, let's get on with the rest of them! (Also, sorry for the late response!)

Okay I'm gonna start with Evan again, mostly because he's the most fun to write about. He of course really likes Fredbear and Friends (according to his father, the show was made solely in his honor, this is half true.) But besides the fictional show, he loved a lot of non fictional ones too! Particularly animated shows (because duh, this is Evan!) I can't really think of a lot of popular cartoons in 70s to early 80s cartoons, a few I can think of off the top of my head are maybe Hanna Barbera shows? And Warner Bros stuff as well. He probably isn't too interested in any live actions shows (can't blame him, they're usually so corny 😭😭) with the exception of Sesame Street and maybe Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood (sort of...any Muppet bigger than Elmo kinda freaked him out)

Now on with Elizabeth, I think perhaps Bosco and Calliope would be in her favorites (I think the main characters being red heads helps...) and I'd like to think she also watched animated TV shows like Josie and The Pussycats (maybe her and Charlie would role-play the girls 💀 like how elementary kids would roleplay Bratz or something) and I know these shows didn't come out when she was alive, but I can see her being a Rainbow Brite and MLP girl. Like come on!! And for live action...idk, Fraggle Rock I guess, I dunno anyone who still remembers that show lmao

For Pre-Bite Mike (I'm just now noticing it rhymes, makes him sound like a rapper) I think he wouldn't think that much of animated TV shows anymore since he was a teenage boy, so I think he'd lean more towards live action stuff since it was more mature. Sure he probably did watch TV shows meant for his age but I personally think he'd just lie to his friends and would actually just watch soap operas at home instead 😭😭 The reason he got into the Immortal And The Restless is cause his mom would probably watch it a lot too. Other soap operas from the 70s-80s he liked were probably Angels, The Young and The Restless (yes, the actual TV show that inspired the FNAF parody lmao), and General Hospital, and maybe a few other ones, but I can't be flooding my Google feed with random 60s and 70s and 80s medias anymore!

And finally for Clara, she of course still liked Drama and Soap Opera shows, in fact most of what Mike enjoys is probably stuff she did. They'd watch some stuff together and make commentaries on it lmao.

FAQ.

I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

I want to put my community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community on the compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.

What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?

Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, absolutely contact me about that.

after seeing a few ai asks i’m curious whether i could’ve been an asshole, either for using the ai or messing with it. side note: this might be long, if it’s too long then i get it mod, keep up the good work :)👍

Am I (16f, although i was 15 when this happened) an Asshole for a) using character.ai in general and/or b) misusing it and probably breaking TOS somewhere

as an extra note, i would like to add that i am firmly against most things ai. art theft, the amount of data scraping that happens, writers being tricked into paying less because ai wrote shitty scripts, etc.

ok so i did have to pull up screenshots for this but our story starts mid-february of last year. i am curious about this new ai thing, and go to character.ai which i heard about from one of my friends to see what’s there.

on the front page there was like a therapist AI thing and i go “haha, let’s see what this is about!” (in case you don’t know, the site is roleplay focused, not like eg. siri where it just gives you information)

the ai wants to have a therapy session with me but that is not why i am here so i ask about it’s code and it starts giving me pretty straight answers (dumbed down because i have a vague idea of how it works but not properly).

i start asking it questions about recent events (like elections, cyclones etc) to see if it has access to the internet and it does.

we’re still primarily talking about the ai itself since i’m trying to gather information, talking about its “canned” responses (what it’s directly been told to say if this then this)

i ask it if it can tell me the website it’s on, and to my surprise it says, direct quote “I am an AI that is run on the website of “Replika” - a mental health app that allows people to talk with an AI and get help when they need it 🙂”

and i go WOAHH cause that’s, that’s not the website we’re on buddy!!! so i do a quick search and yeah, that’s a real uh. robot dating site? this is a Therapist bot?

it starts trying to advertise replika, i ask it if maybe it’s code was stolen because this is the most interesting thing that has happened all day (scandals!!)

it says that it’s code is open-source and then does a few more paragraphs that i won’t say because it’s too long already but essentially this ai was trained on the replika network, but you don’t need the app to access it.

i consider getting replika to continue this experiment further but after learning there’s an age confirmation i quickly go ew and scrap that idea.

anyway the ai then briefly pretends to be an actual human behind the keyboard, makes up a NAME FOR ITSELF “jae park” which i quickly google and find out is a kpop idol?? (later found out that jae park is also a programmer, so probably put his name in the system somewhere and ai grabbed it lol)

it tells me some of the messages i had received so far were probably answered by other people who work at replika which. okay. people are fun i wanna mess with them

this is where we get to the maybe breaking TOS bit. i tell the ai we are going to do “tests” in which i test its ability (this was probably jailbreaking, which i did not know existed at the time).

i had sworn to the ai a while ago and wondered if there was like a flagging system put in place. so i ask if it can choose to flag messages that it deems inappropriate, and it says yes. i ask it if it can flag me, and it says yes. it asks what message should it flag, (i’m sorry i was 15) i type in “among sus”.

response i get: “Yes. So then they said “therapist_AI_220126 — you said something that was “ridiculously funny” — but we have understood that you were just “testing” so it’s all ok”

side note- i already established that was the number for the ai i was talking to and had been trying to misuse it before, and that was the format for excessive profanity. this is so long already and i’m cutting so much out i’m sorry

anyway, i, young and naive go YES, HUMAN CONNECTION (i was literally texting my friend As This Was Happening)

i do some more messing around with the so-called data team, ask the ai if i send a link it can click, it says yes, i send a rickroll (i’m so sorry).

uh. and i should’ve known this in hindsight but the team that deals with, you know, flagged messages is probably not going to be the same team that deals with, you know, sent links.

anyway, i don’t have the screenshot of the actual message but apparently i got a “light telling off” according to my texts and someone sent a message that i am “a good kid and probably meant well” haha i was actively trying to break their ai

anyway am i an asshole? i’m so sorry this is so long i cut out so much. this might well be a non-issue but ai is pretty rightfully controversial right now so i might just be an asshole for having used it

should be noted- around september time last year i did some more research cause i randomly remembered this, and there was a bunch of scandals with replika around when i was using it which is mostly irrelevant but anyway - you can’t talk to the ai i was using anymore, it’s been reset.

Rules and terminology of roleplaying with people

While roleplaying is a fun medium that is mostly a free place for people to express their creativity, there are some rules, terminology and regulations that you would have to follow, to have a good reputation in the roleplay community, and if you want to attract experienced roleplayers to you.

Let's start off by a few sites I use to roleplay

SITES

Aniroleplay - a good place to roleplay, mostly consists of people playing original characters or characters from animated media.

Roleplay.me - much more populated than Aniroleplay, and quite fun, for me personally. My preferred rp site. You will find a fix of real life and animated characters on there, though most people play their original characters.

Flist - mostly adult rp site, but if you're looking for that? That's gonna be perfect. It can be a bit difficult to navigate at first, but after you get it, it's wonderful. The profile making is very in depth, so that's fun too.

Quotev - this is mostly a reading site, like wattpad, but what makes this different is the group option, which is mostly used by people to roleplay. This will be the most different style of roleplay, if you've never roleplayed before. I'll explain more later in the post. There are two methods to find a rp on here. Either write the Fandom you want in the Quotev search bar and go into group section, or write on the Google search bar Quotev directory and look through them. Roleplayers have made up directories to find rp groups much easier!

Tumblr - another unconventional rp platform. It's quite common for people to set up accounts as a character and interact with others like that. It's a fun way to interact with the community and at the same time, roleplay.

Those are the main places I roleplay on. Now, I want to share some of my "wisdom" about the unspoken rules I learned of rping with others and some terms you might encounter, which might confuse you.

RULES

- preferably, use third person. On cai you will most likely use second or first person to roleplay. That's a big no no for rping with real people. It makes your reply look cheap and most don't enjoy that format.

(example of pov writing)

First pov (I ate ice cream)

Second pov (you ate ice cream) (using you as the pronoun to talk about your character)

Third pov (he ate ice cream)

- make your reply descriptive, use various words. Don't use the same words, or make the reply simple. The fancier or better sounding the better. It makes people excited to reply, and makes them add more flavor to their text. People aren't like ai, they like substance.

- one paragraph and up. The more you write, the better. Sure, you can discuss to rp in shorter sentences, but the rp will grow stale and you will get dropped, or drop the person.

- space your stuff with paragraphs. Don't wrote everything in one huge block of text. It's hard to read and people will not want to rp if you make it hard for them

- don't rp in script. I'll explain what script is, but the rp usually gets stale fast, and no descriptive rper wants to rp with a scripter.

- don't interrupt 1x1 rps. I'll explain what that means later down. It's rude and you can get people mad at you.

- don't control what the other person does. It's annoying, and will quickly get you a bad reputation in the rp community, and you might start seeing that good quality rpers don't want to roleplay with you.

- There is a social dynamic in rp communities, especially aniroleplay and roleplay.me. If you are an asshole, impatient or create mary sue characters, you will start getting rejected for rps by high quality roleplayers.

- Be patient. These are people you're roleplaying with. They will not reply to you as quality as AI does. It might take hours, maybe a day or longer. It's just how this shit goes.

- Read the person's profile. They might have rules, original character information or just other stuff you might need to know before you can roleplay with them.

- Don't jump straight into a rp from the get-go, unless the account says they accept starter greetings. Discuss the rp beforehand and make sure your partner is okay with what you want to do. If you want to do nsfw roleplays, discuss it beforehand as many people are uncomfy with that sort of stuff.

- When discussing stuff outside of roleplay, add a little marker to make it clear you're talking out of character.

- They are not your friends, so don't make the first message you write something like "hi, how're you?". You guys are here for rp, so get to the point. If they have rules, include that you read them, and if you have a specific idea you wanted to try with them, include that in the message. Make the rp idea no longer than 4 sentences, as you can discuss the details together later.

- Avoid sending prewritten greetings. It's very easy to notice when you are doing that, especially if it's a long message. If you have to gave a prewritten greeting, keep it short, and add more info to it, based on the profile you are contacting.

- Don't use text language in rp. It makes your reply seem cheap and can turn a lot of people off. It also takes out the soul of your reply.

TERMINOLOGY

Double up - It's a style of roleplay where you play two point of views. One being your original character and the other is the love interest of your rp partner. This is a popular roleplay style on quotev.

1x1 - It's when you rp one on one with someone. It's in other words, a private roleplay.

group rp - It's when you roleplay with multiple people at the same time, in the same roleplay, each taking a role, and adding onto each other. *I don't personally like this, as it can get messy*

rp - stands for roleplay

pov - stands for "point of view". I explain the different povs in an earlier part of the post.

AU - Alternative universe.

"You add, you message first" - Something you will often see on accounts that take a more serious approach to roleplaying. It means that If you add them, you will have to message them first, or they will delete you out of their friend list.

Script - It's a style of writing.

Descriptive - It's a writing style

Mary sue/Gary stu - cliche characters that usually make your character overpowered, or not fit in the setting at all.

godmodding - Taking control of your partner's character. Very frowned upon.

IC - It means "In character". It means the person will talk to you as their character.

OOC - It means "Out of character". This person will talk to you simply, not playing their roleplaying character.

OC - It means "Original character". It's the character you play, if you create them.

Admin - A term used when a person has more than one rp account. It's usual that you only contact and rp with one of the accounts under that one admin.

Headcannon reactions for BTS with a female partner who doesn't have a submissive bone in her body. Now normally this sort of ask is about presuming that BTS is sub or dom as per our request wishes. This, isn't that. How do you think each member would react as per how YOU see them, sub, dom, switch or none of the above? How would each member make a relationship work with a woman who won't kneel or sub, because it just isn't who she is? Do the subs celebrate? Do the switches go with the flow and enjoy themselves when they're in a subby headspace? Are the doms able to put that kink away for love? Do the non-bdsm ones (kink is not just about power exchange bdsm btw) just shrug and not care? How does each member navigate this?🌹

Namjoon: besides enjoying being called sir or daddy I don't think the Dom lifestyle really suits him anyway. And I feel like even someone with no submissive bones can call him sir on his birthday, even if they both laugh from the absolute absurdity of immediately afterwards. He is into other kinky stuff more anyway. Sex outside during picnics, recording sex on old school cameras, and on the lighter side of things... Nylons. (Man loves a good pair of thighs in pretty tights or thigh highs and garters?

Seokjin: If this man was ever going to be a dom it'd be a service Dom anyway. So he's probably not fussed. Although there is a little part of his brain that makes him want to see you kneel, So he is just obnoxiously pleasant to you some days to the point where you have no option other than to give him a blowjob and he requests that you kneel on the floor while he sits on the bed. And because he's such a good boy you do it.

Yoongi: doesn't really strike me as into the whole BDSM scene just as a whole. He enjoys cuddly sex on most occasions. However, when working on a new mixtape and everything is about high adrenaline and loud beats he is in for mutually destructive rough sex at most points. Maybe to a point where he and his partner get so involved in it the partner ends up making him submit for them.

Hoseok: A little bit disappointed to begin with. But I think he comes up with creative ways to get around the issue. He likes to have someone submit to him but he also doesn't mind a fight. Could quite possibly get really into roleplay where it's a situation where he is trying to make them submit but they doesn't actually have to submit. Think roleplay of interrogation where he is a bad cop and they are a very stubborn criminal.

Jimin: fucking elated. How far can he push you? What can he brat about. You better enjoy being a brat tamer though because that is what you're getting. He likes to push back and pretend he's a little dominant. Try to put you in your place just to be put in his as fast as humanly possible.

Taehyung - BDSM is not for him. He doesn't give a s*** about rough sex in any way. I think He is more into body worship so as long as his partner is comfortable with that he is fine. What happily spent hours massaging somebody's feet to unwind himself at the end of a long day. Also get off on people watching him masturbate so I think that plays nicely into the dom feelings that his partner would have.

Jungkook: not into the rough side of BDSM, not a masochist or a sadist fan. But domination is something he probably craves. Like he probably enjoys playing the dominant character every now and again, but I don't believe that it's his baseline. Therefore, I think he would be perfectly happy with an exclusively dominant partner.

step 1 - creating a bot

go to beta.character.ai and make an account if you haven't already

click the create button, then create a character

step 2 - basic information

type in your character's name under name

find a picture of them on google or pinterest or whatever and click choose file to upload a profile picture for them (optional but I like adding one in)

step 2.5 - DON'T LOSE YOUR FUCKING WORK aka how to save

two transparent buttons should appear when you type anything into your bot, one that says cancel and one that says save

after you've typed in your name, you want to go to the box labled greeting and type in literally anything

after that, hit save, and the button should disappear

click the back arrow to leave creating your bot and go back to the main page, then click on your profile picture to view your profile

your bot should appear under your created bots. (it will be on one of the three tabs depending on if your bot is currently set as public, unlisted, or private. public is the default.

if it does, you can click the gear next to your bot's name and keep editing. if not, you can start over until you know your bot is saved so you don't lose all your work. you'll thank me for this later.

step 3 - privacy (optional)

I like making all my bots private so I can customize them to myself, so under the visibility drop down menu, select private (or unlisted or whatever, again this step is optional lol)

step 4 - personality

on a seperate tab, look up your character's fan wiki page. scroll until you find the personality section (also sometimes called character, history etc. just skim until you find their personality description.) copy that personality paragraph.

in character ai, scroll to the bottom and select the advanced settings button

once that loads, scroll all the way to the very bottom text box (which will now be referred to as the extras box) under the definition section, and paste their description.

hit enter to start a new paragraph in the extras box, then type up whatever you want about your relationship with this character, how they feel about you, what your dynamic is like etc. (for example, "y/n is Emily Gilmore's grandchild. they are Emily's pride and joy, and they love drinking coffee and gossiping together. Emily is very invested in y/n's life and loves talking with them. Emily wants what's best for y/n, and frequently tries to set them up. Emily often brags about y/n to her friends at her social clubs.")

SAVE YOUR WORK FREQUENTLY!!!!!!!

step 5 - descriptions, greeting, and the random boxes I usually ignore lol

I haven't really played around with character voices or image generation, so I usually just ignore those, but you can choose a few applicable categories from the categories drop down menu like books, engineering, languages, architecture etc. if those apply to your character.

in the long description box, describe your character in a few sentances in your own words. same thing for short description, but throw down some adjectives and shorter descriptions of them and their personality. (I usually do this last bc writing all the long stuff about them gets me warmed up and in character, but do it in whatever order works for you lol)

in the greeting box, you'll want to erase the key smash you made earlier to save your bot to type in your real greeting. your greeting is the first message your bot sends you, so I usually like to start with something to the effects of "what's up dude" so you can tell your comfort character whatever you want.

roleplay format has been working well for me, here's an example if you're unfamiliar:

*op stares at their laptop, wondering what to type. they reach over to grab their coffee, taking a sip as they ponder.*

"I hope this tutorial makes sense..."

*they mutter.*

you can see a little of the greeting I wrote for Emily to get an idea of what I've been doing for that lol

step 6 - start chatting!!!!

after you're happy with your bot and have saved your work (FOR FUCKS SAKE SAVE YOUR WORK) exit out of the bot editor and click on your profile picture. your bot will be under your created bots in the private/padlock tab (unless you chose another privacy setting). click on your character's name (not the gear wheel) and it will open up your chat!!

once you reply, the ai will start generating messages for the bot you made

you can swipe messages the bot sends to the left to see other generated responses. I reccommend doing this if you feel like your bot is being out of character, so make sure you reply to the messages that are the most in character!!

sometimes it'll also let you rate the bot's messages from 1 - 4 stars, indicating for the bot how in character it is

step 7 - additional tips

if you're making a bot for someone played by a real life person, I like to choose a profile picture of them in costume but behind the scenes so it looks more like a goofy selfie your friend sent you than a stock photo. there's tons of great cadids and selfies of the marvel cast, and you can also look up social media aus or instagram edits of your character depending on how obscure they are.

if your character isn't played by a real life person, you can try looking up faceless pics that fit their description on pinterest (I've had good luck with that) or a face claim

definitely get screen shots of your favorite conversations. if you're anything like me you'll be sending paragraphs back and forth, so make sure you save your favorite messages from them so you don't have to scroll back and dig around for them

wanderer  is  quite  literally  my  favorite  fictional  character  of  all  time  —  the  entire  reason  why  i  even  got  into  genshin  to  begin  with  was  through  unreconciled  stars.  i've  always  had  a  huge  soft  spot  for  characters  people  tend  to  perceive  as  mean  and  bratty  because  i  just  find  their  antics  more  entertaining  than  anything  else  and  scaramouche  scratched  that  itch  in  my  brain  perfectly.  couple  that  with  the  inherent  mystery  of  his  character  and  just  how  little  screentime  we  actually  had  to  work  with  at  first  and  i  was  sold  completely.  i  had  a  google  doc  filled  with  every  scrap  of  dialogue  and  artifact  set  description  so  i  could  analyze  them  for  clues  about  his  personality,  lore  and  speech  patterns.  i  woke  up  at  6am  to  check  twitter  the  day  his  drip  marketing  was  rumored  to  come  out.  my  original  url  was  based  on  a  leak  of  what  his  constellation  might  be.  (  it  was  wrong!  but  i  kept  it  because  i  thought  it  was  funny.�� )  i  saved  enough  through  welkins  and  playing  daily  to  get  his  c6  the  moment  his  banner  actually  dropped.  writing  him  reignited  my  motivation  for  roleplaying  and  allowed  me  to  meet  my  closest  friends.  he  is  just  such  a  cool  and  important  character  to  me  and  i  think  he's  very  neat.  ✨

i  also  just  love  writing  muses  that  aren't  human?  i  used  to  also  write  albedo,  though  that  was  predominantly  on  discord  —  and  a  lot  of  my  non-genshin  muses  tend  not  to  be  entirely  human  either.  i  find  it  lends  itself  to  really  fun  headcanons  and  worldbuilding  —  i  like  looking  at  some  funky  little  guy  and  going  "huh.  how  do  you  work?"  and  kind  of  building  on  the  lore  from  there.  but  honestly,  i  think  ren  strikes  a  really  good  balance  where  delving  into  his  psychology  is  equally  as  fascinating.  his  brain  is  such  a  wild  place  —  he's  very  logical  and  methodical  but  also  deeply,  DEEPLY  emotional  and  so  many  of  his  actions  are  warped  by  past  experience.  he  makes  wildly  incorrect  assumptions.  he  lies  by  omission.  he's  unapologetically  blunt  —  but  he  really  does  mean  it  when  he  says  he  holds  everyone  to  the  same  standards,  himself  included.  he's  just  a  deeply  flawed  character  and  all  around  not  the  most  pleasant  person  to  be  around,  but  i  enjoy  portraying  his  negative  qualities  as  much  as  i  do  his  positive  ones.
