Good God Father's New Rock Music Release Waves : tackles the loneliness of having to take on the world

I wanted a big anthemic gothy long winded song. This is what I came up with. It's also my first step in publishing what will become my basic sound which is taking my grungy alternative 90s roots, and building more electronic/dubstep sounds around that. So I sequenced a bunch of beats and synthesizer sounds behind live drums, guitar and bass.

The song is about the loneliness of having to take on the world,

and how that whole mission can sometimes cost you more than you wanted to pay. So you find ways to adapt. 

Because no matter how broken you feel about your past, you've got to keep your eyes forward to take on the next wave. The song follows me along through a huge transformation in my life. A lot of things in my personal life shifted in so many ways that I couldn't control. Pouring myself in to my music was my only way through it all. That's where this song comes from. I almost didn't finish it after my recording studio burnt to the ground in April. So the song is both that expression, and also evidence in itself of what is possible.

This song is one that was far less reliant on my influences than other songs I've written in the past, I would say. I wanted to make something that was more me than anything else. Being that I wasn't working with a band or anything, and I was doing all my production work, I wanted to wrestle in to place elements and strengths that I thought highlighted my ability.

After I'd lost a lot of connections, and friends and support because of some personal life choices I'd made, I decided that maybe those folks were tired of giving to me more than I was giving back. So this song is my attempt to settle the score, and bring out as much as I could from within myself that might amount to some sort of pay back, or at least a thank you to everyone who'd invested so much in to me.

This song captures all of those experiences that I was in at the time. So many people had poured so much support and love in to me for so long, that when I started to make choices that those folks weren't too happy with, I felt an overwhelming need to show them all that I haven't abandoned them. I'm not trying to take them for granted. I just have my own choices to make in life. I have my direction that's got the bigger picture in mind, and even though not everyone can see or understand that, I still will never forget about them, nor will I ever stop loving them.

Biggest announcements are: Yes, I'm going on a West Coast tour with the eXtreme Tour from August 3 - 31. I hope to get a lot of footage to put together a music video, and probably/possibly a second video on the heals of this one. I managed to recover some drum tracks of another song out of the ashes of my former life, so I'm trying to utilize those to cut another song as well before the road, but we'll see if I have enough time for that.

About the Artist...

I'm Sean Michael David Lewis. My nickname is Xwan Solo. I was born and raised a 6th gen Oregonian to a family who has great pride in our heritage as descendants of pioneers. So history was always an important element to my mother who would take us to all the various museums all over Oregon, from Oregon City, to Champoeg, to Tillamook. Faith was an important part of my upbringing too, although, it didn't start that way. My mother converted to Foursquare Christianity when I was age 11, and the rest of my siblings, including myself, followed suit. It was after being baptized that I first picked up the acoustic guitar in my mother's closet. Music and faith then became intertwined as I learned to play guitar, as I would also learn the Faith simultaneously. 

Fast forward through my adolescence, and a few bands, producing a few albums of other artists, forming a record company with friends, getting married, and becoming a father, I would find myself on my own, left to my talents and devices to decide on who I was going to be and what I was going to do with my life.

That's when I came up with Good God Father. I wanted to form a brand that was less my own, and more belonged to the Spirit inside me that was animating and motivating me to make music. I didn't have a band anymore, so I would do all of the work, and the whole thing belonged, and belongs, solely to myself.

All the responsibility is on my shoulders now to take everything that I've learned about God, Life, Love, and History to formulate a cohesive picture and sound that pushes things forward in to molding a modeling for myself the future toward which I can believe in, hope in and put my trust in.
