if i had a nickel for every big finish audio where an 8th doctor companion time traveled to the mid 1900s and a gangster with alien weaponry hatecrimed a gay man with a name that a drag queen would use. i would have 2 nickels. which isnt a lot but its weird that its happened twice.
#for the record goodbye piccadilly is like if invaders from mars didnt suck#ari opinion hour#AND both of them talk about war of the worlds.

I'm going with 10 All Time Classics from the Captain America (MCU) fandom. I mean, they're all classics to me, at least. In no particular order:
1. This, You Protect by owlet
First installment in the Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series, which are all amazing. It's a “Bucky escaping Hydra and rebuilding his sense of self” fic, which he does while spying on Steve. With eventual Avengers Family and a lovely cast of OCs bonding with Bucky in the meantime. It has a very distinctive perspective and writing style; Bucky's in constant internal (and sometimes accidentally external) dialogue with himself, making it hilarious and tragic all at the same time. I love it. I've recently been getting into The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells and this Bucky has a similar sassy-but-vulnerable vibe? Read this if you like that, anyway.
2. The One Who Knows by Dira Sudis (dsudis)
This is a Political Animals AU, in that no-powers Steve is inserted into the Political Animals world and Bucky is TJ. Discusses being outed and depression but is ultimately hopeful. The author is one of my all time faves and has written lots of great stories for this and many other fandoms.
3. Blue Scales by chaya
Steve is a merman AU. He's still Captain America, though. It's crack with heart, I love it.
Best line: "May your scales and your love story be our weird secret forever.”
4. Our Lingering Frost by eyres
AU where Bucky is rescued from Hydra in the 50s (?) and so is around for Steve to be found.
5. Assets Out of Containment by follow_the_sun
It's a classic to *me*, OK? Bucky goes undercover at Jurassic World just as that movie's plot kicks off. They're Hydra dinosaurs! It's just great. Also has a podfic and crossovers with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
6. Not Easily Conquered (series) by dropdeaddream and WhatAreFears
Some of the greatest fanfiction I've ever read, the whole series is epic. Anyway, it's a "Steve doesn't go into the ice" AU with added queer angst when (never sent) love letters from Bucky resurface. I particularly like the second installment in the series The Thirteen Letters, which are just Bucky's letters and are insanely well-written.
7. to memory now I can't recall by Etharei
Time travel AU! Featuring post-CATWS Bucky accidentally switching places with CATFA era Bucky.
8. If Wishing Made It So by Leveragehunters (Monkeygreen)
Genie!Bucky AU! This author is great at writing AUs with fantasy/genre elements, it was hard to choose. They've also written an excellent werewolf!Steve AU and a horse!Steve AU that I really love.
9. Into That Good Night by Nonymos
An Interstellar AU! Very angsty and tragic but with an eventual happy ending.
10. Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Speranza
Speranza must be one of the best writers in the fandom, so it was hard to pick just one of their fics. Other strong contenders were All the Angels and the Saints and The Fifties, so check those out too! But this one has a special place in my heart. Steve, Tony and Natasha accidentally time travel to WW2 London, leading to an accidental run-in with CATFA-era Bucky. The author does tragic and romantic time travel tropes so well, but with a happy ending.
I now realise that most of these are AUs, so here’s a bonus rec for a non-AU in-universe story that’s severely underrated and deserves more love:
+1
Heart, Have No Pity on this House of Bone by Sena
This story follows Bucky in-action in the Pacific Theatre. It’s very well written and, from what I can tell, well researched. Steve only appears in Bucky’s imagination and the story focuses on the horrors of war rather than romance, but it’s gripping! And it explores unrequited love, being closeted and period-typical homophobia, which I also enjoyed. I’m still holding out hope for a sequel.

mafumafu, Police Piccadilly, 21SeikiP, Karasuyasabou, Kasamura Toota, Polypho, jon-YAKITORY, fullkawa honpo, HoneyWorks, buzzG, Haruka Ryo, Mizuno Atsu, Peg, Yairi, Mashima Yulo, Hifumi, Ukaroku, MuryokuP, Live-P, Sohbana, Hirata Yoshihisa, Wataru Sena, Sheeno Mirin, Sodeno Arawa, MaikiP, Komedawara, Haruno, Aoki Gou, and Ishifuro don't have any songs other than commissions in the game, so if cover/vocaloid songs by them are ever added you can put them on the list.

Torchwood Timeline (May 2024)
This is my canon timeline for the Torchwood TV stories, novels, and audio productions. It's fairly similar to the wiki timeline with a few small tweaks. It's also completely spoiler free, unlike the wiki timeline.
Some entries have firm dates, some have months, some have general decades, so I've tried my hardest to fit them into where I feel they fit. If anyone spots anything that I've missed or sees any glaring problems let me know and I'll try to suss it out. New stories will be added as they are released.

Martin Allen was a 15-year-old boy living in Kensington, London. He had grown up in a council flat before his father was employed as a chauffeur to the Australian High Commissioner. This new career meant that the young family could move to a cottage in the grounds of the Australian High Commission in the prosperous Kensington area.
It was the 5th of November, 1979, and Martin was travelling home from Central Foundation Grammar School on the London Underground. The last time anybody saw Martin was at King’s Cross station at around 3:50PM when he said goodbye to one of his school friends. Afterwards, he walked into the short tunneled passageway that leads to the west-bound Piccadilly Line train that would take him towards his home. Some reports would later say Martin’s brother saw him at home at around 5PM before he headed straight back out.
What’s known, however, is that Martin disappeared at some point during this day.
Within days of his disappearance, the police launched a major enquiry. A witness came forward to say that they had seen a suspicious man accompanying a boy that looked like Martin at the Gloucester Road underground station at around 4:15PM. The witness said that the man had his arm around the teenage boy who appeared to be distressed.
Afterwards, he saw the two board a West-bound train at the tube station despite the fact this station was the one closest to Martin’s home. He described the strange man as around 6 feet tall, in his 30s, well built and wearing a denim jacket. The witness heard the man tell the boy: “Don’t try to run.” Following the witness coming forward, an investigation found five other witnesses who saw the blonde man and boy.
Despite an exhaustive search, the man was never identified.
Early on in the investigation, Martin’s brother alleged that the detective told his family that there were “high-up people involved” in his disappearance and that they should stop looking for Martin and “not take it further because someone will get hurt.” Over the years, theories have abounded.
In 1998, police found a shrine to Martin in the house of an alleged pedophile who had a headstone engraved “In Memory of Martin Allen.” No evidence could tie him to the disappearance, however. At one point, police questioned serial killer Dennis Nilsen but again, no evidence could link him to the disappearance. There was even some speculation that Martin was abducted and murdered by a local pedophile ring, operating out of a local hotel.
To this date, the whereabouts of Martin Allen remains a mystery. Both his parents have passed away without knowing what happened to their son.

Here is Day 2 of 12 Days of Arthur: Music 🎶
Just a fluffy little scene 🥰
A thank you again to @oigimi and @scummy-writes
Arthur fluff, ~480 words
It was a late start to the day, but Arthur supposed that was simply the price of being an author. After a mighty stretch, he braved the hallways to procure some coffee.
Gleaning from the sun rays filtering in through the windows, he reckoned it must be a bit past noon. A smile graced his face, knowing she would be in the kitchen at about this time. A chipper hum flowed through him.
Taking a brief pause just before his entrance, Arthur’s smile grew wider as he heard the quiet shuffle of feet beyond the door. He froze then, becoming even more grateful that he’d taken the time to listen in.
Within the kitchen, her voice took up a small tune; she was singing the very tune that he had finished just a moment before.
♪ “Goodbye Piccadilly, farewell Leicester Square~ It’s a long, long way to Tipperary, but my heart’s right there.” ♪
There was a strange flutter in his chest, followed by a warmth he’d long grown disaccustomed to. Had the two of them been on the same wavelength? Arthur found himself liking the idea of that. Why, he’d liked that idea far too much.
Not so fond of the idea of waiting any longer, Arthur made a far more excited entrance than he’d initially planned.
“Why, I didn’t know you were a songbird! You should have told me, luv,” Arthur’s lilted voice made her jump, but she turned toward him with a shy smile.
“You’re waking up rather late today,” she teased.
“A writer’s work is never done, I'm afraid. We simply rest our eyes for a few hours here and there until we can fuel up on coffee made by beautiful morning birds.”
Her cheeks were determined not to grow any pinker, but it was a challenge. She brought up a cup and began brewing.
“Speaking of…” Arthur stifled his enthusiasm as he broke the brief silence. “I would have thought the only music you and I would both know would be one of Wolfie’s. I’d never imagine you’d know It’s A Long Way to Piccadilly.”
She chuckled, “I’m actually pretty sure Mozart’s pieces are the only songs we both knew.”
Arthur blinked, puzzled. “But you were just singing it word-for-word?”
Her eyebrow raised as she wrapped up her coffee preparations. “Arthur, you sing that song practically every day. I’ve picked up the words pretty quickly from it,” she giggled. “I used to think it was just when you were at your happiest, but really it’s just all the time,” she grinned, handing over his cup.
Bugger me... There went that damned fluttering again.
“No, luv, I think you were spot on. I think the amount of happy days have simply grown exponentially as of late.”
“Oh? Well that’s good!”
Arthur nodded, the warmth within him threatening to combust. “I think so, too.”

- Bucky time travel anon here Lol
Oh dear what have I done? I really dragged you down the stucky rabbit hole
I’ve been looking and looking and I can’t find anything that matches what you described 😓 here is some other time travel ones that certainly live up to their hype though for the meantime, but I promise I will keep looking
⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
to memory now I can't recall
Etharei
While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.
Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.
⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square
Speranza
Natasha wanted to tell him the whole story of wartime London and the pub and seeing who Steve Rogers was before he lost everything, and meeting The Winter Soldier only to find out that he was just a young charmer named Bucky Barnes.
⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
To Live It Again Is Past All Endeavor
trinityofone
Time travel bodyswap! Present-day Steve and Bucky wake up back in their old bodies in 1938, while past Steve and Bucky wake in a future where they're both built like comic book heroes and Bucky's got what he thinks is a swell future robot arm. Adventures are had, and the ethics of time travel are debated. Also, everyone trash talks Willem de Kooning.
⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
I can’t remember how this started (but I can tell you exactly how it ends)
gwyneth rhys (gwyneth)
“And this is the thing, Steve. I would rather relive this day for eternity than watch them win and you die, or see you be enslaved to them the way I was.” (Groundhog Day)
⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
four dreams in a row where you were burned
voxofthevoid
“Who the fuck are you?”
“Steve Rogers.” Steve straightens, looks Bucky in the eye. Remembers all the times he’s said this, in a future that this world will never see. “I’m your friend.”
“Steve Rogers,” Bucky repeats, mouth twisting bitterly. “Captain America. The same Captain America who’s buried in ice, who fucking sacrificed his fool ass to stop the Red Skull, who crashed a motherfucking plane into goddamn ice nine days ago.”
“Twelve,” Steve corrects a little numbly, because that’s the easiest part he can address. “I went down on February 2nd. It took them a while to determine whether or not to let the public know. To weigh the demoralization my death will cause against the vengeful heroics my sacrifice will inspire. Clearly, they decided on the latter eventually, but I’ve been told it was pretty close.”
_
When Steve uses the last of his Pym Particles to travel to 1944 and save his best friend, he doesn’t have a plan beyond leaving behind the battlefield and living his life alongside the people he loves.
But time has a will of its own.

I can't believe Big Finish was so excited to tell me they had a new email address for their newsletter on Friday that they completely failed to use it to mention one of the #1 things I actually have been checking their newsletters for updates on, which incidentally they were already announcing on their website on Friday anyway.
(Honestly I'm rather ashamed of myself for taking this long to notice it, but also what do you expect? me to check twitter more regularly?)
Anyway, if you, like me, totally missed it, apparently June's Torchwood Monthly Range release is going to be a Norton & Andy one-off that seems to be inspired by Restoration-era Farce, of all things:
Which means in two months we're getting the first Torchwood Soho-adjacent standalone since Black Knight over two years ago (which I maintain is a very good audio, though I fully understand how it was bound to disappoint specifically as a replacement for Absent Friends), and the first Norton & Andy solo adventure since Goodbye Piccadilly in 2018 (which is borderline criminal)
#torchwood soho#andy davidson#norton folgate#im thrilled#even though this is evidently not set anywhere near the actual 1950s and clearly features none of the rest of that team#or any team i suppose as it must predate the founding of torchwood lol#it'll be fun to see them both time travel to somewhere neither of them belongs tho#look i've been loving the boxsets but i've also been saying the whole soho crew needs more appearances in the monthly range#there's no reason lizbeth and gideon shouldn't have their own one-offs by now#not if queen victoria and billis and like some random oods can#the single releases are just a medium big finish does so well & there's so many things you can use them for#hell i'd be eagerly awaiting a Belle Epoch & The Stagnant Pond one off if they announced it

Train Station Masterlist
A Pang in Your Chest (ao3) - dansleftboob
Summary: The first time Dan ever got a pang in his chest when looking at Phil was, in Dan’s mind, a strange point to get it. The two had been stood on the train station platform, having just finished a radio show, maybe Dan would have found it more normal if Phil had actually been looking at him but no, Dan’s heart apparently decided to clench when he was looking at his best friend staring off into the distance, probably lost in a some daydream about dogs or something. That made Dan’s breath hitch. A completely normal thing. And it took Dan’s breath away.
And I know the yearning will always remain (ao3) - Kavat
Summary: Kathryn drops off Phil and Dan at the train station.
Blink Back to Let Me Know (ao3) - wallflowerchronicles

Instead of running from it, he confronts it.

As Grim as the Reaper: Masterlist
When you finally returned back to base, the entire place was in chaos.
Military officials were running frantically everywhere, papers flying and phones ringing off the hook; something had happened.
When the two of you dropped out of your vehicle, a breathless Laswell approached you.
"(Y/N), with me, now. Alex, go see the General. She'll fill you in."
You looked to Alex, who shrugged before splitting off, and you followed Laswell closely to the tent. Upon entering, several images and stills of videos were scattered across the screen, and a laptop was set up in front of the seat.
Scanning the images, you'd recognise that place anywhere.
Piccadilly Circus.
Covered in police tape, cordoned off, body bags everywhere.
You turned to Laswell, eyes wide, "That's London, Kate. What the hell happened?"
"Terrorist attack."
"In the middle of London? How does that even happen now?" You spoke, voice raising unsteadily.
"We located some of the stolen gas." She sighed. "Lost several men and there were, unfortunately, a number of civilian casualties too. We had Sabre and Bravo on it, but..."
"Sorry, what? Bravo? You trying to tell me my fucking brother was on the frontline to this?!"
You looked back at the images, heart pounding. The destruction from the pictures was the tip of the iceberg, you knew that much. All of those bodies, all of those soldiers, lost. And one of them could be him.
"Kate, I swear to god do not pussy-foot around me. If anything has happened to Captain Price-"
"Take a breath, little bug. Anyone would think ya worried about me."
The voice crackled from the laptop, and you turned quick enough to break your own neck, stumbling to sit down in front of the screen.
There, you saw John, not a single scratch in sight, but he was still in his gear, looking as though he was hunkered down in a safehouse, several people blurring past him in the background.
"John! Thank god you're okay."
"O'course I am. What the hell happened to ya?" He said, nodding to the bandage wrapped around your arm.
"Ambush in Verdansk. M'good." You shrugged it off, "What the fuck is- Kyle?"
Just behind him, you caught a glimpse of a man you'd not seen for a few years, but a man you'd come to know incredibly well. At the sound of his name, he looked up, and moved to lean over your brother's shoulder.
"(Y/N)? That you?" He spoke.
"Yeah, it's me. Bloody hell Garrick, how've you got roped into this?"
"Sabre sent us in half-arsed, still trying to pretend we're not at war."
"Fucking lie of the century, that." You laughed. "I'm glad you're okay. Y'look good."
"Lookin' good too, (Y/N)-"
"Excuse me." Price cut him off, "Wanna explain how ya know my sister, sergeant?"
Gaz's eyes went wide, his mouth stuttering nonsense words under the interrogating gaze of your older brother.
You rolled your eyes, but explained nonetheless. You told John of how after he was sent out on mission halfway through your basic training, Kyle Garrick had been one of the new recruits, fresh from the Police.
He'd become your partner in crime on barracks, the two of you being an unstoppable force - you'd just not been able to keep in contact too much in recent years.
Price nodded, the story checking out enough for him. Though he may not have shown it, he felt glad - if you trusted Kyle, then so did he.
"Sorry to interrupt, John, but say your goodbyes." Laswell said, coming to set a hand on your arm, "We gotta go, honey."
With a nod, the three of you bid your goodbyes, and with a final debrief of what happened in London, once again you were following your handler across base, until you stopped in front of a fresh vehicle.
"What's the plan, Kate?" You said.
Alex reappeared then, striding over to you with a face that told you that whatever was about to go down was not good.
"Al-Qatala has claimed responsibility for the attack on orders of the Wolf. The two of you are going to Urzikstan...today."
It was hot, and it was dry.
And the black of your stealth gear only sucked the heat in more.
On your arrival in Urzikstan, you'd tied your hair back in an effort to keep yourself cool under the mask; something else that hadn't come off.
The last thing you needed now was to be in a country bleeding war and someone able to identify you.
Alex stayed close as you were quickly ushered into vehicles, and transported to the makeshift base of Urzikstan's liberation forces, lead by a Commander Farah Karim. Forced into a dull room, you were pushed into a chair, four other men circling you both.
"What is your message from Captain Price?" A woman spoke.
Her.
You opted to stay silent, allowing Alex to do the talking.
"Commander Karim...call me Alex." He said, leaning forward.
You couldn't help but roll your eyes a little, a small smirk playing on your lips. You'd been here five minutes and he was already trying to be fucking smooth.
"I'm listening, Alex."
"This is classified."
Farah dismissed her soldiers in Arabic, leaving just the three of you in the room. You crossed your arms over your chest, leaning back in the chair, studying.
"Forty-eight hours ago, terrorists stole a shipment of Russian gas."
"Only Al-Qatala would do this."
"The Russians make no distinction between AQ and your people." Alex said, standing to move around the room.
"And I make no distinction between AQ and the Russian army. They are both terrorists. We would never use these poisons."
Before the conversation got any further, a man burst into the room. You shot up, unsheathing your knife, until Farah's hand raised to calm you.
"This is my brother and lieutenant, Hadir. This is Alex, and-?" She looked to you.
"Reaper."
"You are CIA?" Hadir asked, circling Alex.
"They work with Captain Price."
"Then you kill Russians, yes?" The smirk on Hadir's face made you snort, chuckling under your mask.
"I have friends who can help us...but your sister decides what's next."
"Of course, my sister is in command."
"Then let's stop fucking around and get to it." You said, stepping to the table to join them.
Farah nodded at you, a somewhat appreciative and impressed look in her eye, before she lent down, and began briefing the two of you on the situations here.
Barkov's men controlled the city, which meant you'd have to infiltrate to regain the freedom. It was a yes or no situation. If you wanted Farah's help, you had to stay. But if you stayed, you would have to fight.
So, fight it is.
Quickly, you found yourself being led through tunnels underground, following the two soldiers to the other end. Hadir turned to you, handing you and Alex a pack of C4 with remote detonators, before he disappeared down another route.
You followed Farah, pulled up a ladder and through a hatch, met by a man named Tariq.
"Here, put these on." Farah said, handing both you and Alex a long piece of cloth. "Your mask helps, but it is not enough for you to blend in here."
You nodded, putting on the garment, watching with a smirk on your face as Farah adjusted Alex's.
"How do I look?" He asked her.
"It'll do."
With Tariq's direction, you concealed your weapons and you followed Farah out into the street. It was crawling with Russian forces, executing, beating, directing citizens. It was a complete mess here.
You walked until you reached a checkpoint, at which you and Farah were pushed in one direction, Alex in another.
"Alex! No-" You tried to speak, but Farah grabbed your hand, pulling you with her.
"This is where we split up. You'll need to comply to blend in...we'll find you on the other side." Farah spoke to Alex.
"I'll see you, angel."
You frowned, but complied with Farah's orders, knowing this was the only way for the three of you to stay safe and undetected. Following her around the trucks and to the back of the building, the two of you stooped down, eyeing two soldiers blocking your path.
"How good are you with those knives?" She asked, turning to you.
"Pretty damn good, Commander. Alex is the best of the best, and he trained me, so."
"You two are close, yes?"
You smiled, "Yeah, he's my best friend. We got each other's six."
"You are...together? A couple?"
If your mouth wasn't so dry from the desert air, you were sure you may have choked on your own saliva at her question.
"Oh, god, no! We're like siblings."
Farah said nothing at your declaration, merely humming before instructing her orders, and the two of you took out the soldiers just in time to see Alex emerge through the door.
It was light work between the three of you, taking out any soldier you came across as you snuck through back alleys and streets to get to Farah's next contact. But when you arrived, Russian men were swarmed over the house.
Silently, you took them out with your knives, Farah not far behind you and Alex shooting from overhead. You moved through the building, clearing it of any mercs, before re-emerging outside, where yet another load of civilians were being lined up.
Tied to a beam being lifted by a crane, you watched in horror as three men were hung, the civilians around being held in place, forced to watch.
"This is a fucking war crime." You growled.
"Punishment, for the stolen gas." Farah replied. "Barkov blames us for stealing it."
Nothing more could be said, as two helicopters whirred overhead, dropping off more of Barkov's men. With Farah's direction, you and Alex made your way to them, killing any soldier in your way and planting the C4 onto the helos.
This was the distraction you needed to execute the plan, and with the press of the button, you blew the explosives.
Alarms blared, people screaming and running. Soldiers marching into the square. The three of you tried to make a run for it, but a group was waiting.
Farah threw her bag of explosives, detonating it as it landed in front of the group and you made a run for it.
It wasn't enough.
"We're getting boxed in!" You yelled as you dove behind a truck, taking fire from your left side.
"Go right go right!" Farah yelled back.
Alex lunged, grabbing your hand and pulling you with him, "Holy shit!"
You jumped through windows, skidding through backyards and vaulting over walls until you managed to circle back, and into the tunnel where you met back up with Hadir on the outskirts of the airbase.
They'd done well, and the way Farah's troops had fortified their small army impressed you - even more so as you heard the small whirr of remote control planes.
"What's this?" You asked, picking one up to examine it.
"RC planes, loaded with C4." Hadir replied.
"Fuckin' nice." You smiled.
The second the planes made impact, you, Alex, and Farah's forces ran down, breaching into the airbase.
"Echo 6-2 to Watcher, local forces are moving in on Barkov's airbase. Requesting close-air support." You spoke into your radio.
"Copy, 6-2. I'm tasking an unmarked gunship to your position, stand by."
Seconds after, the cannon hit, and you pushed forward with the group, gunning down any Russian in your way, with Alex close behind you.
The entire base was in chaos, the only thing to be heard was the sheer amount of gunfire and boom of explosions.
"So, you can shoot a gun then?" Alex quipped as he slammed down beside you, reloading his weapon.
"Better than you can by the looks of it!"
And so, somehow, you managed to turn this into a competition, one that you were winning by a landslide by the time you made your way to the tarmac.
"3-1 to Watcher, we're moving to the tarmac. Where's air support?" Alex radioed.
"CAS is inbound. Unmarked, ETA five minutes. This is risky, Alex."
"We need to help them, Kate." You replied.
By the time air support arrived, Farah's forces had lost a significant amount of men, and the rest of you were almost out of ammo, and getting boxed into the hangar.
And finally it was over.
The airbase was secure, and pride swelled in your heart knowing you'd helped Farah's people take a little of their country back.
