can you talk about the way scully says « he’s not my husband » in a defensive tone in iwtb when father pedophile calls mulder her husband bc that always kind of annoyed me but I don’t rlly know why

my thought is like…on a larger scale, there’s so much that we don’t know about them and their lives in those 6 years between iwtb and the original series, and theres so much that they can’t have and can’t do. i’ve said before that i don’t think msr would ever really want to have a wedding or care about being married, but at this point, they can’t. they can’t work together or go out together or see their family together. (they can’t raise their child together).

on a smaller scale, she’s pissed off lmao. at both of them. at the situation. scully’s a very private person and very protective of her relationship to mulder, regardless of the status of that relationship, she definitely doesn’t want father joe to know anything about them. she has that kind of bite of, you don’t know me. you don’t know my life.

and there’s also probably a bit of petulance of like, well, he’s not my husband!! he can’t be my husband!! both because of the circumstances and because of who he is. it’s like later when they argue and mulder’s like…you can’t ask me to stop, this is who i’ve always been. and she’s just like yep i know. (“that’s what scares me.”)

that’s so much of the conflict in iwtb, it’s so much of their core character traits reaching their lowest and most unhealthy expressions. it’s very much an ahab and starbuck storyline, but at the most manic and grating. scully lives in a haunted house with a haunted man without her baby and this is what she gave up everything for, and he’s not her husband, he doesn’t even turn to look at her when she comes home from work.

I know that whenever Jackson babysits the little squirt because the parents are at the restaurant/taking time off he always sends a pic to them to show everything’s fine because he knows his dad is a little anxious to leave his children home alone because of childhood trauma 🤧🤧 and they are always happy to get a notif of their son’s selfie with babyno2 passed out on the couch cuddled against him <33

kicking my feet thinking about how ghost adores your little crush on him – finds it cute how you think it’s not obvious :((

the way he has to bite down a smile when you bring a hand up and ask to compare hand sizes with him. he holds it up anyway and watches the way your eyes gloss over at the size difference, your tongue poking out to swipe at your lips.

the way he stops himself from taking you in his arms whenever you drop by with baskets of sweets. he’s not even particularly a sweets guy but for you? got him changing his whole palate and all. sometimes he loves teasing you – he really can’t help it, with you acting so cutely – by bending down and tugging at his balaclava enough that his lips are showing, and silently demanding that you feed him. the attention he gives you always makes you glow and who is ghost to stop that? he loves seeing you sparkle, especially because of him.

the way he keeps a couple of hoodies and sweaters in his trunk because you always seemed to strategically forget your jacket when you’re out with him which ends up having him offering up his own to keep you warm. thing is, he loves your pretty conniving mind. loves that he doesn’t have to find an excuse to see you in his clothes because you present yourself to him, all wrapped up with a pretty devilish smile and a sharp glint in your eyes.

yeah, you truly are so adorable in the way you desire him. adorable in the way you think he doesn’t know. don’t worry, he’ll reward you soon.
