So, I tried this vegan cold cuts ham substitute today, and I will say I am impressed. It tastes good, it has a great consistency, it smells good. Solid 9/10. Absolutely will be getting more Simple Truth vegan sandwich meat. I'm vegetarian, for the record, as eating meat makes me physically sick. Anyway, just felt the need to share the tasty thing I discovered today. SANDWICHES ARE BACK ON THE MENU, FOLKS!!

I do not discuss my cooking habits or lack thereof much on here but Cook As You Are is already my most-used cookbook relative to how long I've owned it and I am recommending it to everyone who has to cook for themselves

My parents went to have thai food and they were going to bring me home a curry, preferably with tofu as the protein, but apparently tofu isn't an option unless you pay $5 extra.... so like you can get the curry with chicken, beef or pork for the normal price with no extra charge, but if you want tofu as the protein it's an extra $5.00..... when tofu is way cheaper than any kind of meat and a whole package of tofu at the store is like under $3... be for fucking real.... like every other thai place I've been to just includes tofu as a protein option for no extra charge or like 1 to 2 dollars at most... except for this place apparently... five extra dollars for tofu... ridiculous... they ended up getting red curry with just vegetables which was good I guess, but still cost like $15.95 with no main protein which is frankly ridiculous imo

of all the things i've cooked on my own the only things i've gotten food poisoning from have been beans
not the 6+ year old frozen meat from the back of the freezer not the sort of undercooked seeming seal or anything
just beans (and, okay, a bag of baby carrots)

As an omnivore who likes vegan and vegetarian cooking I think the mistake a lot of people make when trying to convince meat eaters to go plant based is trying to convince them that something you’ve got will replace meat for them.
I like vegan nuggets and real chicken nuggets for different reasons. They taste different. They only taste identical to you because you haven’t eaten meat for five years.
When cooking for myself I only eat meat maybe like three times a week because vegetarian cooking is often cheaper and it tastes good.
Like just give people the actual recipes you use that aren’t pasta. Every time you ask what to eat on a meatless day people are like. Pasta. I don’t want pasta every day.
Point out the foods people already eat that are vegetarian. Like sweet potato fries, veggie chow mein, grilled mushrooms, mashed potatoes, black bean enchiladas, peanut butter sandwiches. Tell people what you microwave when you’re drunk at 3am. Show people that vegetables are so good they’ll want them in their diet.
Also some people are just never gonna go vegan. They’re just not. I’m certainly not, and I love vegan food. But since I’ve fallen in love with vegetarian cooking I eat meat much less and I’m much more careful about picking the meat I do eat. Doesn’t that align with a lot of your goals?
Impossible burger doesn’t taste like meat. But you know what tastes really good? A mushroom fajita taco. Falafel. Potato pancakes with applesauce. Smoky vegan collared greens. Hot potato salad with herbs. Palak paneer with rice. Tofu Pad Thai with extra peanuts. Some of my favorite foods of all time, and I’m a dirty rotten meat eater. Use THAT to get your foot in the door. And be more accepting of some half-assed victories. I’m on your side for the most part, believe it or not. But stop trying to claim certain things are just like meat. You and I both know you don’t plan most of your weeknight dinners around meat substitutes.

as someone who's had alot of shellfish basically it's this part of the meat texture and taste wise?
just more fishy and like the ocean, personally I prefer just the fatty parts of the meat more than like non-kosher fish.
though there is vegan recipes for making kosher shellfish.
tbh oyster mushrooms literally are the exact same texture, not the taste though. but you can probably wrap them in salmon skin or cook in fish stock or something and it'd taste way closer.
but idk :P
people who describe converts as "Jews by choice" are so funny to me. There was no choice. You didn't choose this. Ever since your soul was on mount sinai, you were as forced into this as any of us. The only difference between my Judaism and yours is that you had a period of non Judaism, Jelly btw, did you ever get to eat lobster? what was that like?
