One of the reasons that they believe the Traveler could use any element is because they’re outsiders so, if this is a case of Desmond being the ultimate isekai protagonist, Desmond would be counted as an outsider by Teyvat.

Or, if you want a more dramatic entrance for our Desmond…

In the Archon story of Inazuma, part of the possible consequence of losing one’s Vision is forgetting one’s ambition or drive (which supposedly was the reason one was granted a Vision in the first place) and sometimes they even lose memories related to their ambition or drive.

In this case, Desmond would wake up somewhere in Inazuma and he has no idea why he’s there. His last memories are dying to save the world.

As he’s trying to get his bearing, Yae Miko would appear before him because there was a peculiar scent in the air.

Desmond has no recollection but Yae Miko told him that he was employed in the Grand Narukami Shrine as sort of on hand fixer and muscle. She was actually looking for him because he went missing last night, seven days since his Vision was taken by the orders of the Raiden Shogun.

As far as Yae Miko and the rest of the shrine were concerned, Desmond is a member of the shrine.

But Yae Miko does admit to him that he smell different. He has a similar scent to the Traveler who she hasn’t made contact yet but had been keeping an eye on.

Desmond is left trying to figure what the hell is happening and people of the shrine thinks he lost his memories and try to help him. At the same time, the rest of the canon story continue in the background.

(Maybe Desmond decides to join as a third party Assassin who attacks the Shogun’s army once he heard about what was happening, maybe Yae Miko managed to keep him isolated with teaching him about Teyvat and everyhing else long enough for the Traveler to finish the storyline, up to you)

By the end of it, the Visions are returned to everyone and Desmond gets his but…

His Vision returned cracked. There was no symbol of what element he had, just… nothing.

They managed to get an audience with Raiden who told him that she doesn’t know what happened to his Vision. His Vision was kept at the same place as every other Vision and his was the only one that was damaged.

When she saw Desmond, she also instinctively felt that he was an outsider. She doesn’t know if it’s because Desmond was an orphan with unknown parents (and due to how he looks, many believe he’s from another nation) or if Desmond���s belief was right and he came from another world.

Not gonna lie, my favorite is Sumeru and I would love to put Desmond in Sumeru just to make him stare at Alhaitham, internally debating to himself if Alhaitham reminds him of Altaïr or Haytham or if he’s just seeing something that wasn’t necessarily there because of Alhaitham’s name which could still happen if the plot is that Desmond leaves Inazuma for Sumeru to check if that nation would have any idea why he’s there and if he truly came from another world.

Although my suggestion that Desmond’s element should be Dendro is definitely not because my main team is Hyperbloom team. Nope. Definitely not.

My suggestion for Desmond to be Dendro is related to him amplifying his ancestors’ Elements.

His skill would appear similar to, I cannot think of a Hoyo equivalent at the moment sorry, Desmond summons a Phantom ala Wuthering Waves’ Calcharo that appears to look like his ancestor, wrapped in their element and delivering an AOE strike that infuses a certain area with their element at the same time they hit an enemy with their actual strike. (this is also a reference to Altaïr’s Assassin Ghosts in AC Revelations)

I gave Ezio Pyro because the burning of Cappadocia. Altaïr gets Electro because Electro feels like the fastest element thanks to Clorinde. And Ratonhnhaké:ton gets Hydro because it’s still the strongest DPS element at the moment XD

(For course, we'll get a similar setup if we make Desmond have Anemo but that would mean Desmond would have to remember to use his skill first before his normal attack lollol)

Yanqing is the grandson of the General of the Xianzhou Zhuming and is hunting down cursed swords. Ironically enough, he wields a cursed sword

Phantaylia is the leader of a small faction following The Destruction. She will meet her end along with her fellow acolytes by the hands of an Emanator that should not exist

Robin is a cyborg Galaxy Ranger hell-bent on destroying the IPC after they destroyed her home. She lives by the motto of stealing from the rich to give to the poor

Sunday is Robin’s late brother who died during the IPC’s attack on their home planet

He and his baby daughter were the only survivors after a Stellaron ate half their planet, and he - being a young single dad - was taken in by Maeven Ellis of Penacony. He is an unwilling part of the grand plan to revive The Order and acts as the talent manager in Penacony. It is said that because of his “faulty” Synesthesia Beacon, he can no longer speak his native language nor say his own birth name 

Kafka is a Knight of Beauty searching for her missing Aeon. She finds beauty even in the most grotesque creatures

Gallagher is a being of Memoria created in the image of the Watchmaker to guide the Nameless. It is said he is based off of a man once called Breukelen Tiernan

Misha is a Historical Fictionologist created by the Watchmaker to be Gallagher’s friend and to protect the Dream. He takes the form of an unsuspecting hotel bellboy who wants to become a member of the Greyhound Family, and has traits of many of the employees around The Reverie. He also closely resembles a man who once flew himself directly into the Memory Zone

Silver Wolf is a rather odd Memokeeper from the Garden of Recollection who uses Memoria much like one would use a sandbox video game

Samuel is the very last of the Glamoth Iron Calvary and is an Emanator of Nihility. Disguising herself as a Galaxy Ranger using what she learned from a woman named Razalina, her real name is unknown to most, but she has a fondness for headbands

Sampo is a Masked Fool hired by Black Swan to cause havoc in Penacony during the Charmony Festival. Really likes bombs

Maeven Ellis is the previous head of the Iris Family and is the current Dreammaster. She takes great joy in “taking in” any “untalented” soul she can find and “giving them opportunities”. She originally wanted her adopted daughter Siobhan to take her place as head of the Family, but her new pet Boothill is working out quite nicely.  Is said to be a follower of The Order (shh!!)

Gopher Wood is the head of the Oak Family and after the death of Maeven, will take over as the leader amongst the Great Lineages. Is considered a threat by the IPC for his business skills

Oti Alfafla is the eccentric head of the Alfalfa Family. He lives for the thrill of the deal and loves to live life stylishly!

Sir Whittaker is the head of the Nightingale Family and takes his job preserving the Dreamscape very seriously. Since the head of the Greyhound Family is often busy, the security guards usually either answer to him or Gopher Wood when it comes to questions about Dreamchasers

Siobhan is Maeven’s adopted daughter who helped Boothill get back on his feet after he relocated to Penacony. Now she travels the cosmos as a famous mixologist, trying to wash away the stench of the Family in her past. Currently has custody of Boothill’s daughter and is the little girl’s godmother

Peridot & Bubbles, a member of the Ten Stonehearts and her pet Warp Trotter. Formerly known as Asta before joining the IPC, Peridot of Debt Retrieval views her position as one allowing her to travel and discover new secrets of the universe. Known as the least controversial Stoneheart

Tourmaline, a member of the Ten Stonehearts. Formerly known as Arlan before being recruited by Obsidian, Tourmaline of Stratagems is reckless and often self sacrificing. It is said he had a harsh childhood that culminated into strange survival skills

Obsidian, a member of the Ten Stonehearts. Known as Obsidian of Credit and is the Senior Manager of Strategic Investment, they have taken a personal interest in Tourmaline and are interested in his plans, even going as far as trusting Tourmaline with their cornerstone

sunday, 11pm, September 22, 2024 ~ cider close to hand, both alcoholic and non; hozier playing in the background; evidently it's the first day of fall

reading since i skipped doing one of these last week, both of my reading picks tonight are actually from a little while ago. both were so, so compelling, but for different reasons. one an award-winning piece of twentieth-century canadian literature set in 1970s india, the other a scandalous semi-autobiographical account of drinking, dating, and divorce in roaring twenties new york.

i think that drew me into both of these first was their dialogue-- both authors are so good at writing distinctly unique, distinctly not-what-i-usually-hear character dialogue, without it sounding at all affected. i got the feeling that both authors were working from life, describing societies they knew inside and out, and had observed intimately. so much detail about the, like, material and sensory details of these two different settings-- what everyone wore out to dinner in the twenties, and what they were eating and drinking; what shopping for a chicken or going to the doctor was like in mid-seventies bombay, what school was like, how people were discussing the government... beyond that, these two feel so dissimilar that comparing them is going to do a disservice to both. though i guess both have, at different points in their histories, been the subject of some scandal. listening shout out to my 'for you' playlist last week, which was one hit after another-- but opened with this, and introduced me to rachel chinouriri! whose sound i really like. that first slow build up to the guitar bursting in? got my attention immediately. the lyrics to this one are, admittedly, wild to be singing while trying to write job apps, but it's melancholy in enough of an upbeat way that it almost feels calming?

the whole album goes down so smooth, and is rewarding repeat listens. i love her voice. i love how late i am to discovering her, since she's opening for sabrina carpenter now apparently.

watching no shogun time this week, but the gang and i sat down to experience the first episode of a new series, which i cannot stop thinking about. imagine like. australian broadchurch, but only one of the main characters and all the victims are actually in a bleak crime drama, and every other character is doing like parks & rec. also it's extremely gay. and rude. and funny. favorite characters are dulcie, and sven the guy who keeps asking who he can delegate stuff to. also dulcie's wife, who i'm so worried about the world crushing somehow, she seems too optimistic to survive undamaged!

playing did i mention finishing act ii of pentiment? now that @blue--period is playing it, i realized i wanted to get further and be able to discuss. i was devastated by the end of act i, but the end of act ii feels... bleak in a way i wasn't expecting, at all. i'm already planning a second play-through using my other save file, since i failed a bunch of checks in act ii (a few i think based on the background i had chosen, aggravating since it was helpful in other ways) and no spoilers, but in other ways, i failed by succeeding. saving act iii for now, since i have a busy next couple of weeks. much love to caspar, my best boy.

making fallow week. check back soon for experiments with medieval ink making, though!! i have sourced ingredients, and parchment scraps, from kind friends and colleagues who won't ask me to pay for them, and will shortly be (i hope) benefiting from someone else's paper-making budget. stay tuned.

working on prepping for my students' quiz on thursday, and the following assignment due in early oct, by brainstorming what i want to ask them to do and then not actually writing the rubric or instructions. alternating with staring at the descriptions of various job openings and trying to pick up lots of detail about the hiring departments. wrote up a 2-page dissertation summary, which sucked. feeling more chill about the process than i thought, which is also because it doesn't feel like it's happening to me, exactly. writing sample and finalized cover letter this week?
