Garbage Golf Gauntlet Review?
This one is entirely my fault and features 12 games, which seems too long to put into one post. Back during FriendFest 2024 on the Mystery Tournament Discord, we had a "golf the world" challenge, and I played a ridiculous amount of golf games on itch.io. It turns out some of these are either longer or buggier than I had thought, so really I could have picked a long one instead (challenges for Kuso Advent were meant to be about half an hour).
For my set of 5, I wisely chose the short ones. 16 Greens is short and I would say sweet, but mostly it's just very funny because the ball physics and power are wildly off-kilter.
Golf with LÖVE has a bizarre control scheme, broken physics, and no ball sink animation.
Lucky Golf has a neat idea of replacing ball power control with dice, except it doesn't give the player a different choice to make instead, and if you're unlucky it can be very tedious. It also has snow levels that make it impossible to see the little aiming line, which is also reversed from typical for this style of golf game.
Mini Golf, one of many identically named games, suffers from one of the stranger control schemes in golf game history, as well as the usual range of stroke power being "stroke counter goes up but nothing happens" to "infinite velocity", with it heading towards infinity around about 30% power.
Golf Adventures 2 has a few different problems - some of the hole designs are needlessly tedious, such as having a wind effect at a tricky spot push you back to the beginning of the hole. There's also no score cards, which is mildly unsatisfying. There are cosmetics for the ball, but these can't be directly purchased with the coins you get for completing holes - you have to buy a raffle ticket and try your luck. Lastly, the achievements mostly reward inept play that seems more to do with the bad level design and inaccurate power bar than player skill (or lack thereof).

Time again for another Golfshrine Acquisitions Update, this time featuring inadvisable amounts of Jack Nicklaus, Beavis and Butt-Head, and a game designed for a DVD player.
Tumblr media
Also going to arbitrarily ping @foone about this, solely for the Great Potential offered by the ability to make Jack Nicklaus say anything one wants. (Might be a great fit for Death Generator!)

I am a solo indie dev trying to overcome my anxiety and actually let people know my game exists. It is a cute physics based game where you are the level.
I love making this game with passion and I am so excited to share it with the world, but somehow I need to let the world know. Unfortunately the way steam works is the more wishlists the more visibility, so if you are interested it is super appreciated :)
Wishlist on steam or visit the website to find out more mightymarbles.com

Video Game Idea: Asymmetrical multiplayer golf game where some of the players are golfers trying to complete the game and some of the players are alligators trying to keep them from doing that.

The Flag Game - a different kind of golf wager
The Flag Game is one of my favorite golf games for big groups or golf leagues. It brings together wagers, handicap index legitimacy, and Easter egg hunts!
The Flag Game is a fun golf game that’s perfect for a large group with disparate talent levels, so long as everyone keeps an honest handicap index. It’s the golf version of last man standing, kind of an inversion of the more traditional quota golf games. The Flag Game is an interesting twist on standard stroke play for guys of disparate skill levels. It’s a game that I first encountered in one…

Itchy & Scratchy in Miniature Golf Madness Review?
You play as Scratchy the cat, trying to play golf at a miniature golf course while Itchy repeatedly murders you in crassly gory ways. This sort of thing tends to be funny to 13 year old boys and grown men who never stopped being mentally 13. Luckily, it's on the GameBoy so it's not even as gross looking as the cartoon. I have to admit I stopped watching The Simpsons so long ago that I mostly forgot everything about it, and I have zero nostalgia for it. The actual golf platforming is pretty middling. I've played worse, but those were honestly more enjoyable simply because I wasn't being interrupted all the time. Itchy's violence is actually just tedious here. Sure it will eventually game over me and I'll have to do it all again, which is annoying. And that's really it. At least as far as I played, since I'm stuck on hole 1 of 9 not because I ran out of lives (which was the expected roadblock), but because I cannot seem to hit the exact right pixel of swing power to actually get the ball in the hole. I have 45 more minutes of this to go, and I might lose my mind from sheer boredom.

In The Mail: Table Golf Association Game
Arriving for review in the mail was a copy of the Table Golf Association Pro Edition board game.
In The Mail: Table Golf Association Game Arriving for review in the mail was a copy of the Table Golf Association board game. Table Golf is a happy confluence of my two hobbies: golf and board gaming. I’ve been playing golf for thirty years, and playing “hobby” board games for fifty. By “hobby” board games, I mean tabletop games of the sort that have come into vogue in recent years among the…

I bet that Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake, as the Batfamily’s resident corporate America breadwinners, have to occasionally go play a round of golf to keep up appearances with WE shareholders. The only problem is that they’re both fucking terrible at golf.
And when I say they’re bad, like, holy shit, they are really bad. For two people who often have to save the universe with their intelligence, concentration, and ability to effectuate incredibly complex, precision-reliant plans, they are both somehow really, really fucking awful at golf of all things.
Bruce, at least, has the Brucie Wayne disguise to hide how absolutely awful he is at golf. Which totally works for him, because he hates the reminder that he is inherently terrible at something. So, whenever he’s dragged out for a round with Lucius and the WE board members, he just pretends to get super drunk, act a little more clumsy then normal, and hits on the caddy until everyone just writes him off as too much of an ditz to put any effort into his golf swing. It drives Lucius nuts, because he actually likes golf and he thinks Bruce is just pretending to be bad as part of his cover for Batman—there is at least one occasion where he asks Bruce to show a little more decorum on the course and actually try to play, and Bruce just… blue screens. Because in reality he is actually horrible at golf and he needs the excuse of “dumbass Brucie Wayne” or his ego will implode.
Tim, however. Poor Tim.
Tim, unfortunately does not get to play the idiot to cover up his absolute shit golf game. (There is only so much room in the family for idiots and he has to keep up appearances as Jack and Janet Drake’s son.) As such, he avoids any and all golf courses as much as possible—but everyone once in a while there’s a potential merger or business deal he needs to discuss with someone important, and the best way to get the deal done is on a golf course. So Tim has to spend the next three and a half hours of his life torturing himself through a round of golf. (He ends up losing twelve balls, taking seven swings on a Par 3, somehow broke his putter, and tripped into a bunker.) The only upside is that his pure determination to actually finish the round, despite how godawful he is, is usually what actually convinces the investors/partner/board members agree to work out a deal with him.
But it’s best (or worse) when Bruce and Tim play golf together. It isn’t often—stories of their infamously terrible golf games means that most people will only invite one of them at a time—but inevitably they do end up on a course together at one point, and holy fuck, it is a miracle they don’t burn the place down.
