My rural town FB has had several recent posts about people finding two cats and asking if they have owners. Eventually, the owners responded with passive-aggressive bitching that people kept "picking up" their cats and how the cats have a huge, lovely garage to live in, stove and snacks and everything!
Then keep the fucking cats in the fucking garage.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a79298a35dab3ff7646d0521c0af468/112bf886e856b739-bb/s540x810/b01ce4fdf2c9058a6578c5941c836839d91161ff.jpg)
I can think of a really easy solution to this problem.
#no#not ''everyone'' is enjoying their company#especially as many folks in town#have big gardens#and don't enjoy semi-feral badly-kept cats shitting in them#it's going to be a really ironic tragedy#when those kittens inevitably get taken entirely#or hit by a car#or eaten by a coyote (which we have)#and the owners moan on FB about how cruel life is#BITCHES#YOU'RE THE ONES WHO LET THEM RUN LOOSE#IN A RURAL TOWN FULL OF COYOTES AND DOGS#AND PEOPLE WHO DRIVE LIKE MANIACS#AND GOLF CARTS AND TRACTORS#the BEST case scenario is someone else feeding them!

When Rafe wasnât at Tannyhill, some shitty party, or out golfing with his friends, he was probably with you. Although he was always with you, even doing all of that.
âJesus, did you have to bring her along?â Topper mumbled to Rafe, having to hear your endless yapping about something neither boys really cared about. Kelce currently drove the gulf cart, zoning tour talking out.
Even after, when all the boys had gone and it was just you both in his truck, you sat with him happily at an ice cream shop. He sat across from you, slowly eating it and enjoying your company.
âYou got some..â he motioned to the corner of your lips, you furrowed your eyebrows and attempted to wipe it off, you missing the spot. He leaned over the table, wiping it off with his finger.
His body moved as if time had slowed down, his hand trembling as he swiped it over your lip. Even the slightest contact making him freak the fuck out.
Jesus, he felt like a lovesick teenager. âSomething was wrong, man the fuck up. This is your best friend.â Is what his thoughts told him.
Your eyes widened, your cheeks heating up and you looking away as he pulled his hand away, retreating back onto the other side.
âThanks.â You murmured, giving him a small smile and the both of you wordlessly eating your ice cream again.
You stared outside, the grey clouds looking over. It started to rain, and you both silently and comfortably watched the raindrops fall.
âThanks, em, Iâll see you later!â You told your friend, who also happened to work at the ice cream shop, waving bye to her as you shut the door.
Your hands were entwined with Rafeâs, and you furrowed your eyebrows as you looked out at the pouring rain.
âWhatâs wrong?â Rafe asked when he began to step forward, but felt you not budging.
âI canât get in the rain, especially not in these heels or this dress.â You shook your head, a small pout on your face as you looked at him. He shrugged.
âItâs just a lil rain.â
âA little? Itâs pouring!â You looked at him, with those sweet eyes he couldnât resist.
Rage sighed, thinking for a moment.
He pulled his jacket off, and stepped behind you, holding it above your head.
You looked up, and behind you again, smiling at Rafe who tried to hold a smile back.
But you noticed the way the corners of his lips slightly tugged up.
You turned around, beginning to walk, Rafe following your every move and using his jacket as your umbrella all the way to the car, where the both of you ran and jumped in.
He started the car, you staring at him.
âThank you, Rafey!â You suddenly spoke, and before he could even open his mouth you were leaning over and kissing him on his cheek. He was taken aback.
His movements stopped, a hue of pink on his face. As well as the pink lipstick you had on, which was now stained on him.
âYeah, yeah.â He shrugged it off, looking away and out the window while beginning to drive out the parking lot.
He drove to your house, you thanking him again before jumping out.
âIâll see you tomorrow?â He asked, rolling down the window.
âYeah!â You called back, giving him a smile and turning back to the steps.
He watched you open the door and scurry inside before driving off. He shook his head to himself as he drove over to Barryâs.
He pounded on the door, making Barry annoyed as he opened the door.
âWhat? What?â He mumbled, opening it. Rafe pushed his way inside the trailer, sitting down and putting his cash down.
âJesus, okay.â Barry spoke, rolling his eyes as he went over to where he kept his shit, grabbing a bag and handing it over to Rafe.
When Rafe snorted his line, Barry noticed something on his cheek. A faint kiss mark.
Barry snorted, Rafe furrowing his eyebrows.
âWhat?â
Barry scratched his own cheek, making rafe groan as he remembered. âGottaâŠâ
Rafeâs eyes widened, attempting to wipe it off.
âGot some girl you hiding, country club?â Barry asked him, teasing as he leaned back.
âNo.. itâs my fuckinâ friend.â
âThat y/n bitch?â
âDonât⊠call her that.â Rafe paused his movements, looking at Barry.
âShe got you on a leash, man.â Barry barked out a laugh again, putting his hands up in mock defense.
âSheâs my friend.â
âFriends donât kiss as far as Iâm concerned.â Barry shrugged.
âOn the cheek, not even on the lips.â
âYeah, course. Friends my ass.â He mumbled the last part to himself.
âWhatever.â Rafe pushed himself off the couch.
âAye, man, no offense. Everyones been saying that shit.â
âWho?â He snapped his head towards Barry.
âEveryone. Shit, if I was you? Iâd been in those pants a longggg time ago. You a lucky man, country club.â Barry shrugged.
âDo not fucking speak about her like that.â Rafe told him again, banging on the walls of the trailer.
âSorry, sorry.â
Rafe opened and slammed the door, Barry laughing to himself and shaking his head.
âPussy.â

Do you think JJ would constantly stay over at readers house bc he feels safe there compared to his own??
đŠanon
I love this!! I also kind of love the idea of the reader having accepting parents too bc that scene with Kiaraâs hurt hurt!!
This literally just became a âplease let JJ have a win with a girlfriendâs family who actually loves himâ write-upâŠ
Yeah he loved the independence that the chateau gave him, but your house had the company and it had the warmth of family. Your parents have stern rules about bedroom etiquette but theyâve practically given him the spare room whenever.
He definitely swings by after altercations with his dad; heâs been walking the street for hours trying to get the courage to ask if he can see you (& he does this every time, even after the 50th visit) because his insecurity is so deeply rooted in feeling like a burden (fuck you, Luke) to everyone.
So when he says he should go, because he doesnât want to overstay his welcome, youâre always responding to it with âplease stayïżœïżœïżœ and not a âyou can stay if you wantâ knowing he needs the clarifying reassurance that you want him there.
Youâll ask your parents downstairs if he can stay, and theyâre always happy to say yes.
Your dad will talk to him in the kitchen while heâs making the dinner, and JJ helps with his experience from his summer jobs in the golf club kitchen. Your dad will never fail to find out how bad the altercation was, and give gentle advice and care and love and reassurance to jj, emphasising that heâs always welcome and never alone. Your dad is basically the Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting to Matt Damon. Your dad will hug him for as long as JJ needs it and thereâs a few shared tears between them.
At dinner, your parents are always so interested in what JJâs been up toâand when he divulges about the gold and his adventures, they believe him and want to hear more. They always make him feel like they see potential in him and that heâs not destined to be like his father & that his name isnât tainted with a pre-made future.
JJ will talk mechanics with your mum, sheâll ask him if he knows whatâs up with their car and heâll go on this whole nerd talk about it.
Heâll help clean up: he washes the dishes and you dry them while your parents sit at the table still, sipping beer or martinis.
The recurring thought they always have, and the recurring thing theyâll always tell JJ is: âyou have the kindest soul who has found itâs other half in our daughterâ and they always make it clear that theyâd rather him with youâa Pogue with gentlenessâthan the boys who attempt to butter them upâKooks with misogynistic views.

You can clearly remember the day you first started liking Rafe Cameron.
It was midsummer five years ago. He was older than you and he only hung out with boys. You were on the sidelines, afraid to talk to other girls like the popular Sarah Cameron and not interested in the conversation that the adults are having.
There was nothing interesting happening until Rafe Cameron decided to talk to you. Well, it was just pleasantries being passed between you as you were standing by the cocktail table, sipping on your nonalcoholic juice as your mother insisted, and he was just needing a drink for himself. One thing led to another and he was keeping you company the entire night, you did see how his stepmother was exchanging glances with him. Whatever kindness Rafe Cameron showed you, it was not voluntary.
But you are grateful for it.
You started slotting yourself in his life, little by little, and he let you.
It was summer again and you had nothing else to do but bother him.
Dressed up in your polo shirt tucked in a light figure hugging shorts, your tennis shoes crunch over the pebbles of your driveway as you make your way to your car to head to the country club.Â
In the mornings, you know that he likes to hit the gym with Topper and Kelce, youâd join them but they all stink of sweat and youâd rather pass. Around this time, you know they will be at the Country Club, drinking or playing golf.
Smiling widely, you check your compact for anything out of place and smile even wider when you are content with how you look, sending a wink to your own reflection.
Rafe begrudgingly taught you how to drive a couple of years ago and you feel giddy with the memory. You park carefully once you arrive at the Country Club and you spritz your favorite perfume behind your ears. Rafe mentioned it smelled nice before and you have been using it ever since. All the other perfume bottles that you are gifted on your birthdays and Christmas were left to collect dust in your closet.
You pinch your high socks to make sure that they fit snuggly, you canât appear unkempt in front of Rafe and his friends. With a practiced smile, you hop out of your car and saunter over to Rafeâs usual table, and just as you expected, heâs right there, having beer with Topper and Kelce.
âHi!â You greet them enthusiastically. Topper and Kelce smile upon seeing you. Rafe glances behind his shoulder to look at you before he turns back to his beer.
âHi, Rafe.â You say as you reach him, you place a hand on his arm to further get his attention and he squints up at you, making you giggle. You sit down next to him, with a smile still on your face. âI saidâŠHi, Rafe.â
He glances at Topper and Kelce, smiling briefly before it drops and he leans closer to you, his hard eyes staring deep into yours. âHi, Y/N.â
Your cheeks warm upon the soft gravel of his voice and you try to hide your proud smirk. You like it when he actually acknowledges you, despite how rude he might act, you know heâs nice deep down. Rafe has quite a temper and you have seen his outburst multiple times but he is always gentle with you.
Mindless conversation rolls over you until a soft chime in your bag has you pulling out your phone. âUgh, sorry.â You smile sheepishly as you put your phone on silent mode. âMy mom has been trying to convince me to shift to business management courses.â
âOh yeah, you took up fashion design, right?â Kelce nods as he sip his beer and you beam at him.
âI did, Kelce. Would you like to see my recent designs?â You ask excitedly as you open your gallery and place your phone so Topper and Kelce can look at your sketch.
But Rafe chuckles humorlessly. âSweetheart, I donât think Kelce came here to look at your drawings.â
âOh.â Your smile drops, your shoulders sagging just a bit. âIâm sorry.â You press home and Kelce and Topper both see how Rafe was your screensaver. You donât look embarrassed by it though.
âThatâs fine.â Kelce smiled at you. âTheyâre uhm, theyâre good. Right, Top?â He slaps Topperâs chest who quickly nods at you, even sending a frown to Rafe.
âTheyâre really nice, Y/N. Perhaps you can make a suit for me for midsummer next year?â He smiles and you gasp.
âReally, Top?â You stand from your chair to grab his hand and he chuckles at your excitement.
âYeah.â Topper nods, grinning widely at your enthusiasm.
You sit back down and glance at Rafe triumphantly. âSee? Theyâre not just drawings.â
Rafe rolls his eyes and grabs his beer. âSure.â
You drink your cherry cola, which was put under Rafeâs tab, swinging your feet as you sit closer to him, your smile not leaving your face.Â
âDo you need sunglasses?â You ask Rafe quietly as he squints under the sunlight. âI have one in my car.â He ignores you to listen to Topper talk. âOr do you wanna switch seats with me, at least you wonât be facing the sun directly.â You giggle lightly as you lean even closer to him.
Rafe shakes his head, eyeing you briefly. âIâm good.â
You sigh but then you get a brilliant idea. âAt least wear sunscreen.â You fish out a bottle of sunscreen from your pouch. Rafe clicks his tongue when you spread the cream evenly on your palm and just as your hands were about to touch his face, his hands caught your wrist to stop you.
The sudden movement caught the server passing by off guard and the cocktail she was carrying came spilling onto Rafeâs polo.
âOh no!â You gasp, quickly wiping your hand on your thighs and dabbing a napkin on Rafeâs stained top.
The server apologizes profusely, she was even pressing her own napkin on Rafeâs clothes, but your eyes immediately lock on how her hands are pressed up on Rafeâs chest.
Before you can stop yourself, you are prying her hands off of Rafe, his shirt crumpled by your hands as you pull him close, your eyes glaring daggers at her.
âDonât touch him!â You scream angrily at her. Her chest is heaving as her short hair is in disarray. You glance at her nametag. âSofia.â You say bitterly. âWatch where youâre going next time! If you canât even serve drinks properly without pouring them all over your patrons, perhaps you shouldnât be working here!â You yell at her but before she can respond, Rafeâs arms wrap around your midriff and he lifts you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.Â
âPut me down, now!â You scream as you kick your feet but Rafe enclosed your thighs in a secure hold.
âNot until you calm down!â He bellows, making you swallow the insult you were about to throw at Sofia.
You gulp. You pissed him off.
You bite your lip as you let Rafe carry you to your car. He puts you down roughly on your hood, you immediately squirm at the impact and at the heat of the metal under your thighs.
âPut me down!â You squeal in pain but Rafe holds your thighs in each hand, you stop all movement when you see his tendons popping out, his eyes glaring at you. âRafe, Iâm sor-â
âYouâre fucking impossible, you know that?â He angrily spits through gritted teeth. His grip on your thighs tightening with every word he spoke, making you flinch and shrink back, your eyes glossy with tears. âYou just embarrassed me!â
You blanch at his tone. âRafe, Iâm sorry. I-I didnât mean to.â You hiccup as you touch his jaw but he turns his head to the opposite direction, away from your touch. His nose flared as his anger nearly boiled over. His face was turning red and you see a vein bulge in his temple.
âShe only spilled the drink on me because you were being insufferable. That girl didnât deserve to be yelled at. You were a fucking bitch!â He drilled a finger on your chest, making tears stream down your cheeks. âGod! I canât stand you.â He shakes his head as he glares at you before storming off.
You called his name but he was already marching back inside the Country Club. You watch him march away, his shoulders squared as he runs a hand down his mouth. Your entire body was shaking as you looked at him desperately.Â
Kelce comes and helps you down the hood. You were clinging to his arms as you looked in the direction where Rafe disappeared. âI said I was sorry.â You look at Kelce with tears pouring out of your desperate eyes. âKelce, I said I was sorry.â
Topper shakes his head as he snatches a handkerchief from his pocket and hands it to you. Your stuff already in his other hand
âCome on, Y/N.â Topper calls. âIâll drive you home.â
Reluctantly, you step away from Kelce. You glance at the Country Club one last time to see if Rafe came back and you wish you hadnât, there he was with that server, Sofia. Rafe was smiling down at her, she had a hand on her chest as she too smiled at him. They are clearly talking about you.
Topper gently puts an arm on your shoulders to get you to tear your eyes away from them.

Midnight Comfort

Summary: Just a short something inspired by Maseâs little injury at the weekend. Set during early stages of a relationship, lots of (debatable) banter and just fluff really. đ„čđ©¶
The sound of your front door buzzing in sync with your phone startled you, the book you had once been engrossed in slipping from your fingers and down onto your bed.
You scrunched up your face in confusion, placing your book to the side as you hurriedly pulled your phone off charge from your bedside table, quickly tapping the notification that told you someone was at the front door of your flat.
You pondered who it could be, after all, it was getting on for midnight on a Sunday night. Anxiety hit you as the live feed of your security camera loaded up on your phone. Your heart hammered in your chest and you let out a heavy breath seeing Mason stood there, absent mindingly looking around the corridor as he waited on your door step.
You hurried out from the blanket you had been tucked under, winding down for the evening. You frantically searched for your hairbrush, tugging it through your messy locks as you did your best to somewhat tame it. You caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and cursed under your breath for having already taken your makeup off.
You hadnât been living in Manchester for very long, but you had had your first meeting with Mason not long after youâd moved in. He had held the door open for you when you were both heading out at the same time one day, and from then on out you seemed to bump into him and his dreamy chocolate eyes every time you left your flat.
After numerous encounters of catching the other taking cheeky glances in the lift, passing in the hallway, walking to your cars. Mason had finally begun to make small talk and one evening when he had returned from having drinks with the boys, the alcohol had gave him the push he needed to pluck up the courage to ask you out.
It was still the early stages of your relationship, but you were absolutely smitten with him. Your dates so far had been kept casual: grabbing a drink at a local coffee shop, spending the afternoon on a dog walk and a Saturday spent having a game of crazy golf before indulging in a picnic. Mason had been the perfect gentleman; opening his car door for you, always complementing how you looked and never making you pay for a thing. He truly made you feel like a princess.
You had enjoyed your time getting to know him and were looking forward to your next date during the week at some fancy restaurant Mason often frequented. You werenât ashamed to say the prospect of seeing him all dressed up for the first time made you feel a little giddy.
As much as you adored his company, you couldnât help but be a little concerned as to what he could possibly be doing outside your flat at this time, and so you slipped your feet into your slippers and padded over to the front door.
You looked out of the eye hole, almost as if to check you hadnât imagined what you had seen on your camera, before you cautiously opened the door.
His arms were folded across his big hoodie that made him look extra soft and cuddly. His hair appeared slightly damp and his face was a little paler than usual, wide brown eyes immediately meeting yours and making you melt as they always did.
âY/n! Hi, howâre you?â He babbled out, tucking his hands into the pockets of his jogging bottoms, finding himself uncharacteristically nervous.
âUmm, Iâm fine, are you - is everything okay, Mason?â You asked, confusion clear in your voice.
âYeah, yeah everythingâs fine.â He quickly spoke, not wanting to worry you. âI just, um-â He rambled on, not sure how to word himself. âI had a bit of an accident at the game today, I smacked my head up pretty bad.â He turned around briefly, showing you the fresh stitches which made you wince in sympathy.
âThey told me Iâll be fine but it might be a good idea to have someone around, you know, just incase anything was to happen.â
You felt your chest tighten and your throat go dry. He wanted you to look after him?
âI remembered you said you had a few days off work and I just thought -â Mason stopped himself, suddenly realising how much he was asking from you. After all, you werenât his girlfriend. Hell, he hadnât even asked you to be exclusive yet. But when the doctor told him he might want to have someone with him for the night, the only person he wanted to be with was you.
âYou can say no, I mean - you probably have plans tomorrow, I shouldnât have came round at this time, I just - God, Iâm sorry.â Mason continued, a little overcome with emotions from the injury that added to his worry you were going to say no.
âMason, of course you can come in.â
He dipped his head up, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards.
âReally?â
You nodded, opening the door and beckoning him inside.
Mason wandered in and you closed the door behind him, leading him through to the living room. You flicked the light switch on and Mason felt a pang of guilt that you had clearly been settled down for the evening.
âIâm sorry, were you asleep?â He glanced over at your body, taking in the plaid pair of pyjama bottoms and little strappy top you had on.
You shook your head. âI was just reading.â
âAnother one of your spooky books?â
You couldnât help but grin knowing he had remembered how much you loved your horror books, something you had mentioned to him on your first date.
You nodded and Mason smiled before pressing a little more for the details of his book. You knew he had no real interest in them, but the fact he was willing to listen to you go on about it made you so happy.
When the conversation died down a little, you took the opportunity to turn the TV on. You left it on whatever channel you had been watching most recently, just wanting a bit of background noise to help break the tension and make you feel a little more comfortable at the new setting you had found yourself in.
âSo, what happened?â You asked and Mason couldnât help but feel a little gutted that you hadnât been watching the game.
He did his best to explain, showing off his stitches once more which just made you more concerned for him. He reassured you he was fine and there should be no after affects apart from a sore head for a few days.
âShall I make us some hot chocolates?â You suggested and Masonâs eyes lit up. âIt might do you good to get some sugar in you.â
âThat would be nice.â Mason grinned.
You fixed up two mugs in the kitchen before returning to your living room to find Mason sat up straight on the sofa, his arms tucked in his lap. He looked almost as though he was a school boy waiting to be told what he could and couldnât do.
You chuckled softly making Mason jump as you appeared around the corner. You walked over to him and he quietly thanked you as you handed him the mug.
âCute slippers.â You looked down at your feet, your face warming as you took in your fluffy and totally seasonably inappropriate reindeer slippers that you had popped on to answer the door in.
âWell I wasnât exactly expecting company at this time.â You pouted in an effort to defend yourself, but you immediately regretted it when you noticed Mason tense up, clearly feeling bad again.
âYou can make yourself at home, Mase.â You settled yourself next to him on the sofa, trying to relax him. Masonâs heart jumped at you using his nickname for the first time, feeling a little more as ease.
He wiggled around on the sofa, repositioning himself as he lent back, taking a sip of the warm coco before placing it on a coaster on your coffee table.
âIâm sorry, I do feel bad for just turning up.â He murmed and you just wanted to make him feel better, loving the fact that you were the person he wanted to be with him.
âHonestly, donât worry, Mason. I wouldâve been up for another couple of hours reading anyway.â You lied, knowing full well you were dropping off to sleep in your book. You didnât want him to feel guilty and besides, youâd have stayed up all night if that was what he wanted.
The pair of you made small talk about your days, Mason telling you about the rest of the game before his incident. You finished your hot chocolates and it wasnât long before you felt your eyes threatening to close. You stifled a yawn with your hand, blinking in an attempt to keep your eyes open.
âYouâre sleepy, Iâm sorry -â Mason stood up, fully prepared to leave till you jumped up to stop him.
âWhy donât we go relax in my bed?â
Your own words took you by surprise and Masonâs eyes lit up hearing you talk about your bed, for a brief moment completely forgetting about his injury.
Mason nodded at your suggestion. âIf thatâs okay with you, I mean, if it isnât I can sleep on the sofa?â
You shook your head. âAnd how am I supposed to keep an eye on you if youâre in a different room to me?â You asked playfully, extending your hand out for him to grab. âCome on.â
Masonâs heart twinged as he followed you into your bedroom. Your duvet was pulled back on your side and your book was led open, upside down on your bedside table to save your page.
He made his way round to the other side of the bed, standing there hesitantly as he waited for you to pull the duvet back for him.
You giggled at how apprehensive he was. âThereâs no need to be nervous, Mase. I wonât bite.â You chuckled, gladly slipping your legs under the duvet before playfully tapping the empty space next to you.
Mason felt silly as his cheeks heated up, internally telling himself to get a grip.
You gestured for him to come lay his head on your chest as he got himself cosy next to you. He begun to lean down onto you but as his head came into contact with your chest, he groaned in pain, having put too much pressure on the back of his head.
âFuck.â Mason cursed. He immediately sat up and you followed him, your heart hammering in your chest.
âShit, sorry, I - I shouldnât have got you to do that, I wasnât thinking.â You apologised, feeling awful.
Mason was clutching his head with one hand, reaching out with his other to intertwine his fingers with yours, letting you know he was okay. He took a few moments till the initial shock and pain had passed before he squeezed your hand.
Your eyes were glazed over as you watched on, not wanting to do anything that could potentially make the pain any worse. Mason noticed your bleary eyes, giving your hand another tight squeeze. âHey, donât be silly, baby. I shouldâve known better than to put pressure on it. Itâs not your fault.â
You huffed. Iâm not doing a very good job of looking after you.â You bowed your head slightly. âYou must be in so much pain, it looked like you hit it so hard.â
You were confused when a smirk appeared on Masonâs face, suddenly looking very smug.
âWhat?â
Mason chuckled. âI thought you didnât watch the game?â He teased knowingly, enjoying watching as you squirmed knowing you had been caught out.
You didnât want to come across as too keen, and admitting you had been sat at home on your own that evening, watching some football game you couldnât care less about just to see his pretty face? That wasnât something you were wanting to admit to.
You were greatful for the minimal lighting your lamp was providing, hoping Mason wouldnât catch on to how embarrassed you were.
âI might have caught a little bit.â You admitted sheepishly. âI just wanted to see how you were getting on so I knew what kind of mood youâd be in for our date.â
Mason raised his eyebrows. âDate?â
âOh, I , er-â You stuttered, scrambling for words. Is that not what it was?
You began to panic, only breathing a sigh of relief when Mason sniggered.
âIâm just kidding, angel.â All was forgotten when the pet name left his lips, your insides bubbling up and giving you a sickly sweet feeling in your tummy.
You tried not to let it show how happy one simple word had made you.
âYouâre well enough to still behave like a little shit, then.â You rolled your eyes and Mason chuckled.
âIâm very much looking forward to it, our date.â He confirmed. âOur fourth date, actually.â
You gave him a soft smile, heart beaming that he had been keeping track.
âIâd still really like a cuddle.â He jutted out his bottom lip, his big brown eyes looking up at you like butter wouldnât melt.
âIf you lay on your side I can, um, I can cuddle up to you.â You shyly offered.
âYeah?â He asked and you nodded.
âJust be careful laying down this time, okay?â You were stern, not wanting to see him in any more pain.
Mason slowly settled himself down in the bed, turning sideways so he wasnât putting any pressure on the back of his head.
You were quick to join him, carefully laying behind him and tucking your body as close to his as you could. You wrapped your arm around his torso, repositioning your body so it was slightly higher up the bed and you could tuck your face into Masonâs neck, gently planting a singular soft kiss there.
âThat okay?â You asked, suddenly feeling nervous about what you had just done.
Mason mumbled a content âyesâ, the feel of your breath on his neck making his eyes fall shut, and the pain in his head somehow subsiding as he settled into your arms. His hand went to intertwine his fingers with yours, your arm still holding him closely to you.
âMhm, think I could get used to this.â Mason shamelessly admitted, loving having you snuggled up behind him and holding him.
You tangled your legs with Masonâs, tucking your feet in between the fabric of his trousers to keep them warm. You just hoped Mason couldnât feel the way your heart was hammering in your chest at being so close to him for the first time.
You hummed, feeling yourself get sleepy, completely relaxed. âNo, this is special treatment for today only.â You told him. âIâm definitely being little spoon next time.â

Neighbors With Benefits: Part 10 (Joel Miller x f!reader)
Pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader
Life felt completely up in the air. It was as exciting as it was anxiety-ridden. The BMW remained at Joelâs house overnight, and even long after youâd gotten home after your romantic romp in the lake, jealousy and insecurity ate away at your core - not to mention every other heightened emotion you could think that you had no idea what to do with.
He said he wanted this, you reminded yourself. Still, there was a looming dark cloud over your inner paradise in the form of the legal situation between Joel and Cecille. Should she try to convince him to take her back, maybe she would be enticing enough for him to agree to it. After all, this wasnât some high school couple that was simply calling it quits. This was a marriage.
Your racing thoughts disallowed you to have a solid nightâs sleep. Each time you awoke you took a glance out the window to see the car beside Joelâs truck. It was torture. When the morning finally did come, you were pleased to see Cicille enter her vehicle ahead of Joel. The question was, was she going to work, or was she leaving for good?
Your phone went off soon after, and you barricaded yourself in your room to take Joelâs call.
âHey.â The one word practically came out as a sigh of relief.
âHey.â Joel cleared his throat, âLook, Iâm uh, Iâm going golfing with your father after work.â
âOh, yeah,â you remembered, âThat was today huh?â
âYeah.â He paused, âAnd then Iâm going to get a room somewhere for the night.â
âLike a hotel?â
âYeah.â
âSo, is um⊠is Cecille staying there permanently then?â
âHonestly, things are a bit of a mess, and thereâs nothing legally keeping her from being there. She loves to make my life a hell of a lot more difficult when itâs convenient for her, hence why this thing is ending the way it is.â
âIâm sorry.â You sighed.
âI shouldnât even be venting all that out to you,â Joel went on. âBut, I just wanted to let you know that I wasnât going to be at the house tonight.â
It felt like a crushing blow that you were potentially losing Joel as a neighbor. Having him right next door was exciting and fun. Sneaking back and forth had been an addicting addition to the relationship. To have his ex-wife appearing out of the blue to take the house back over felt unfair, if their verbal agreement had stated otherwise.
âWhat hotel are you staying at?â
âI have to make some calls on my lunch break,â he explained. âAnd, uh⊠if youâre around I wouldnât mind the company.â
âIâm around,â you explained with a nod, though you knew he couldnât see the gesture.
Joel hesitated before speaking again. âThanks for⊠understanding. Iâm sorry for how this all must seem from your point of view.â
âI trust you,â you said to him. âDivorces happen and from what Iâve heard through the grapevine theyâre rarely easy.â You paused a second before adding, âIâm here for you.â
âThanks.â Joel sighed heavily on the other end of the line, âI, uh⊠Iâm really lucky to have you, honey.â
âThe feeling is mutual.â Despite all the heavy feelings, a smile still formed on your face.
âIâll text ya the name of the hotel this afternoon.â
âOkay.â
âI, uh, I canât wait to see ya. I know itâs only been since last night but I got used to you sleeping next to me.â
Your heart went from a steady beat to outright pounding in your chest. âI loved waking up next to you.â And I fucking love you! You wanted to shout it. You wanted to cry as you told him. The thought of it alone made you want to burst into tears but you didnât know why. The feelings were so intense and the circumstances were so up in the air that it left you feeling a bit tossed in all directions. It was overwhelming.
âWell, if youâll have me, tomorrow morning you will.â Pep returned to his voice as he spoke those words.
âYou know by now that Iâll gladly have you.â
âOkay, then,â Joel said, âItâs a date.â
That was enough to hold you over. While the long term held some serious questions, the short term had you back to walking on air. Spending the night at a hotel with Joel already felt like a little slice of heaven. No one would know where you were. No one would be there to potentially interrupt or catch you. In your mind, you could play house again and act in your fantasy world like you were husband and wife.
When you made your way back downstairs to see your mother filling her travel coffee mug, you smiled. âI can make the pasta salad for the picnic tomorrow,â you offered, âAnd whatever other appetizers will hold overnight. Oh, and Iâll set up the volleyball net this afternoon. Dadâs going golfing, I think.â
âThank you,â you mother said with a smile. âThat would be great.â
âHey, Iâm not going to be home tonight, but I promise Iâll be back for the picnic.â
âYouâre staying out?â
You nodded. âYeah.â
âHollyâs?â
âMm-hmm.â
You mother squinted her eyes. âIs there⊠something youâre not telling me?â She asked with playful accusation.
âLike what?â
âWell⊠you barely stay at this house anymore,â she began, putting a hand up before you could protest,â And itâs fine, youâre a young woman, you can do as you please. But, as your mom, of course Iâm a little curious.â
Crap. Where was she going with this?
âAre you in some kind of secret relationship?â
âMomâŠâ You shook your head.
âWith some guy⊠or even with Holly?â
Your eyes bugged out of your head and you began to laugh. âWhat? Hollyâs been my best friend since middle school.â
âIt happens.â She shrugged, making you laugh further. It was a relief that she thought of Holly before Joel, though you knew sooner or later you would have to tell her the truth.
âNo,â you giggled now, âI canât wait to tell her you said that.â
âOh, donât make fun of me,â she said, shaking her head, âYou girls always teamed up on us moms growing up.â
âSome things never change,â you teased, laughing out loud. In the lighthearted nature of your talk, you almost wanted to blurt out the truth and tell her you were in love with Joel. In your heart, you knew a part of her wouldnât judge, but the other rational part of her would break down every reason why getting involved with him was a terrible idea - and you didnât need that right then. Still, you decided to be half honest with your mother. âI am seeing someone,â you admitted.
âI knew it.â
You chuckled, âBut, I didnât want to put anyone in an awkward position so I kept pretending I was staying over at Hollyâsâ
âWho is he? Did you meet him at school? What was his major?â
âItâs still a bit new,â you explained, âBut I really⊠really like him. A lot.â
Your momâs face seemed to glow. âYouâve never said that about anyone⊠maybe your high school boyfriend, butâŠâ She shook her head, âOh, I canât wait to meet him!â
You already have. A smile lingered on your face but you could feel how forced it was from the tense feeling in your cheeks.
âYou will,â you explained, âI promise. In time. I just⊠maybe donât tell Dad. Itâs a weird, in-between time Iâm in. I feel like an adult and a kid at the same time and Iâm living with you guys and-â
âI get it,â your mother cut you off, âIâll keep it between us. Iâm glad youâve met someone that makes you⊠glow.â She grinned, âI knew it. I knew something was different. He treats you nice?â
âYes,â you said right away, âVery nice. Heâs a gentleman. I think you and Dad have set a good example of what to look for in a relationship.â You winked and decided to butter her up a bit - not that it wasnât true; but sucking up a little wouldnât hurt once she found out that Joel Miller was your secret lover.
âYour father and I love each other very much,â she concluded, capping her coffee. Your mother smiled and pointed at you, âHeâs a good man.â
âAnd a great Dad.â You exchanged a kiss on the cheek, âAnd of course youâre a great mom.â
âStop trying to make me cry before work.â She cupped your face, âMy baby is growing up. And itâs hurting me and making me smile all at once.â
You smiled back at her, exchanged another hug and then parted ways for the day. You spent your day cooking and did a little baking before whipping out all of the yard games for the following afternoon. The volleyball net was a little frustrating to set up alone, but you figured it out. And then you followed with setting up cornhole, staking in a set up for horseshoes and even dragging out a set of folding tables so everything was more or less ready for Saturday.
âHey!â Joelâs voice caught your attention unexpectedly from next door later in the day.
You whipped around with a smile and had the urge to run across the yard to greet him. You played it cool, of course and smiled, staring at him with your hands on your hips.
âHey!â You shouted back.
âStraighten out those horseshoe pits! Theyâre cooked!â Joel smiled wide and winked.
You laughed and bit your bottom lip. âMaybe you should come over and straighten them out.â
âI canât,â he motioned like he was hitting a golf ball, âIâm play golf with my girlfriendâs father.â
He said that loud enough for anyone to hear, but you realized that no one was home to even question it. It made you laugh out loud.
âKeep you ball out of the rough,â you shouted through cupped hands.
Joel began to laugh out loud. He smirked and put his hands out the sides. âNo promises.â
Fuck. You wanted to kiss him. No, you wanted to pounce on him.
âCheck your phone in about thirty seconds.â
âOkay.â
âYour dad comped me a room on the golf course,â he went on with a shrug, âFelt bad about whatâs been going on.â
âHe what?â
âI hope thatâs okay,â Joel added.
âOh, yeahâŠâ You hadnât realized your shock had translated into some form of disapproval, âOf course thatâs fine. Thatâs a really nice hotel.â
âYeah.â He sighed, âCheck in is any time after four. Iâll still be playing then, but you can go whenever youâd like.â
âDo I just use your name?â
âI know itâs probably risky but I gave both of ours.â
You smiled. âWell, I better go inside and freshen up then. Iâve been sweating out here the last hour.â
Joel looked around in all directions before making the trek over to your yard. Your heart rate began to pick up again and you took just a few, nearly-frozen steps toward him. When he reached where you stood he asked, âWhen do they get home?â
âI, um.. well-â
âDo you have any butter I can borrow?â Joel smiled playfully, reminiscent of the first conversation youâd had together on the back step.
You smiled back and swallowed hard. âI have whatever you need.â
âIs there time?â he asked more directly, looking you in the eye.
âThereâs time,â you whispered back, as if someone might hear you.
Joel looked like he wanted to pull you against him and kiss you; but he didnât. He let out a deep breath, holding your eye contact until you led him inside the back door a step behind you. When you got inside it was as if he had been overseas at war. You didnât know if you pulled him to you, or he pulled you to him, but your lips crashed against one anotherâs.
Wondering if you could get caught was the farthest thing from your mind when your hand was tangled in Joelâs wavy hair. He held you with such force and kissed you with such ferocity that you couldnât hold back what you were feeling.
âI love you,â you gasped in between kisses, âFuck, I love you, Joel.â
Joelâs tongue dominated yours harder and you only separated from him because you felt like you couldnât breathe. He let out a gasping breath of his own and let out several deep breaths into your open mouth.
âI love you, too, honey.â He swallowed hard, pecked your lips and you kissed on another more firmly. Joelâs hand lingered on the side of your face. âI fucking love you.â

Right Place, Right Time (last pt. LN)
pt. 1, pt. 2, pt. 3, pt. 4
@seasonswinter @drdbnkl2008 @jaematthews15
this is the longest one bc i needed to finish before i go on vacation :)
To say things were not going well was an understatement. On the outside it seemed like you were holding it together but on the inside you were barely staying afloat. You were going out less with your friends, keeping more to yourself at work, and drinking more. You'd watched both of the races since Austin, secretly happy to see that Lando was finishing outside of the top 5 both times. You had been staying off social media but one of your friends had let it slip that he had been fined a bunch for refusing to speak to media after both races.
You'd facetimed Lily a couple of times and she never brought him up but could tell that you were still sad about the situation. She still insisted you come to Vegas and you promised that you were still coming.
Lily was worried about both you and Lando. He was miserable, Oscar talked about it all the time. Moody in team meetings and refusing to hang out with anyone besides Max Fewtrell occasionally. She was a romantic, so she was hoping that you two would make up in Vegas and it would all magically work out in the end. There was one step already in motion that you were just about to tell her.
"So I have some news," you said over the phone, mindlessly picking at your nails. "And am hoping for some advice."
"Okay...what's up?" She said.
"So you know how I was telling you last week about being nervous for this meeting with my boss and her boss?"
"Yeah, what happened?"
"They offered me a new job." Lily squealed.
"That's so exciting, congratulations," she said. "I haven't necessarily accepted it yet," you said.
"Why not?" "The role would be managing the EMEA partner team, meaning I would have to move to the UK," you said and she was silent for a second.
"Oh," she finally said.
"Oh is right," you said sighing. "It's a great career opportunity but with where things stand with Lando I'm not sure if it's a good idea."
"I mean would you really be around him that much?"
"I guess not really but we'd still cross paths a lot."
"Hmm have you talked to him since October?"
"Nope."
"Maybe you guys should talk next week?," she suggested.
You actually had been planning on doing that, trying to make up and see if you could repair what happened but then your friends showed you some tabloid pictures, you changed your mind. You tried to not pay attention to any F1 gossip but you'd gone down a rabbit hole when it was reported that Lando was with a blonde girl while with Max F on a golf trip. Your suspicions were confirmed when you saw a pic him with her in his car. At first you cried for a good couple of hours and then you were livid. He's the one that was sooo into you.
"I don't think so," you said simply. "He's already moved on so it doesn't really matter."
"Well I think you should still take the job, don't let him take away something good."
--------- Vegas GP week, Friday -------------
You walked into the paddock with confidence radiating from you. You actually had passes for Red Bull's garage for the weekend thanks to Max but you thought it would be a bad look professionally to rep their merch so you had a cute Ferrari jacket in case you were cold.
"Ahh hermosa, did you wear that for me?" You laughed pulling Carlos into a hug. "Looks like you stole those jeans from Charles' closet though."
"I missed you buddy," you said and he smiled, throwing his arm around you as you walked through.
"I missed you too, not as bad as someone else though," he said and you stopped walking, crossing your arms over your chest.
"His new company seems to suit him just fine," you said and Carlos raised his eyebrows.
"Y/n I don-," you cut him off.
"I don't want to talk about him," you said and he nodded.
Speaking of the literal devil, your steps faltered as you saw him staring at you from across the path, ignoring the reporter trying to get his attention. He started to step towards you and Carlos but you watched Carlos shake his head and he stopped moving, looking deflated. You kept your eyes forward and let Carlos guide you towards Red Bull.
"Schatje!"
You smiled widely as Max picked you up twirling you around.
"I'm actually very upset with you," he said once he put you down and you looked at him quizzically.
"You're moving closer to me and you didn't say anything," he said and you nodded.
"You're moving?" Carlos asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I got promoted to oversee all of our European partnerships so i'll be heading to the land of the British next month," you told him and he grinned.
"Congrats y/n, you deserve it." He said.
"Does Lando know?" Max asked.
"No, and I would prefer to keep it that way," you said firmly. Both boys nodded but gave each other a look. Carlos had to head back to Ferrari so you and Max headed into the garage. You watched his and Checo's practice session and then headed towards hospitality for lunch. Max walked you up there but then beckoned Daniel over to you.
"I have to go to a debrief but Daniel will keep you company," he told you and you rolled your eyes.
"I don't need a babysitter Max," you grumbled.
"We have a united front," he said before leaving you.
You didn't realize what he meant until later when it seemed like you had spent the day being passed from driver to driver keeping you away from anyone wearing Papaya. At one point you sat in silence with Fernando drinking coffee, both feeling awkward but it paid off. Lando had ended up in the same area and he saw his chance but Fernando abruptly stood up and Lando quickly turned on his heel.
At the end of the day you waited in the parking lot for Lily and squealed when you saw her and Oscar walking towards you. You gave her a big hug before moving to give Oscar one. When he pulled away he kept his arms on your shoulders shaking you.
"I am begging you y/n, please talk to him," he said. "I am going to kill him or myself by the end of this weekend if he doesn't stop."
"Just tell him to leave me alone," you said sourly and Oscar sighed. Lily slipped her arms through yours and you headed towards your car.
"I know you're with RB for the weekend but will you please keep me company tomorrow during qualifying?" Lily asked. You thought about it for a minute before agreeing.
The three of you piled into Oscar's car and drove you to the strip to find someplace for dinner. You got seated quickly at a nice restaurant thanks to Oscar's status and you had just opened the menu when someone slid into the 4th seat, across from you.
"Lando," Oscar said and you groaned.
"What?" He asked innocently. "I want to have dinner with my teammate, is that a crime?" You huffed and Lily gave you a sympathetic look.
"Nice jacket," he said causing you to finally meet your eyes. His expression was neutral and you kept yours the same.
"Thanks, it was a gift from Carlos," you replied.
"Lovely," he muttered looking down at his menu. "How have you been?"
"Fine."
"Good, good," he said awkwardly.
Oscar luckily jumped in at that point to take over the conversation. Lando kept trying to catch your eye but you refused to look at him and you could see him growing more frustrated. The waiter came back at the end asking how you guys wanted to split the check and Lando quickly motioned that the two of you were on one and Lily and Oscar on another. You huffed crossing your arms.
The four of you headed out of the restaurant, Lando close behind you.
"Ride with me back?" He asked hopefully.
"Absolutely not," you replied and he sighed.
"Are you going to keep avoiding me the rest of the weekend?" He asked.
"Hopefully for the rest of eternity," you said back.
"Baby please," he said and you whirled on him bringing your finger up to point.
"You don't get to call me that," you seethed and he gave you those sad puppy dog eyes. You caught up with Lily who didn't press about the situation, simply squeezing your hand in support.
----- Qualifying --------
You got to the McLaren garage early the next day to find Lily and unfortunately she was not the first person you saw.
"Come to wish me luck?" Lando said as you walked in, grabbing your attention.
"I quite literally am praying that you are out in Q1," you replied and he frowned. One of his engineers laughed, covering it up with a cough and he shot them a look. You found Lily sitting with a headset on and you joined her. The first round went by fast, both boys making it into Q2.
Q2 was going fine to start but you noticed that some of the engineers jumped in scrambling with anxiety. You furrowed your eyebrows and looked up just in time to watch Lando slam into the wall on turn 14. You gasped and grabbed Lily's hand instinctively, your other one going to cover your mouth. You heard his engineer repeatedly ask over the radio if he was okay and you let out a massive sigh of relief when he groaned out that he was.
You watched as he pulled himself out of the car, holding his side. He disappeared with the stewards and you fiddled with your hands nervously.
"I need to get some air," you told Lily pulling off the headset and heading back outside.
You lingered outside of the medical tent for a little bit before finally deciding to walk in. You saw Lando lying on a bed, clearly in pain waiting on a doctor to come over. You made your way over to him slowly and he reached his hand out to you when he noticed. You slipped your hand in his, bringing the other to run your hand through his hair. The doctor came in and wanted to check Lando's ribs so you helped him pull his suits off. Lando squeezed your hand hard, face grimacing as they felt around his ribs.
They ended up deciding that nothing was broken, just bruised and you walked back to the garage with Lando ,your hand still in his. His team surrounded him as you got back and you squeezed his hand as a goodbye before going to find Lily again.
------- Race Day ----------
Lando's POV
Lando was waiting around for the driver's parade talking to Oscar when Max and Carlos walked up.
"How are you feeling?" Carlos asked.
"Meh, it still hurts but it's survivable," he replied and the guys nodded.
"Heard you had a visitor in the medical tent," Oscar said and Lando blushed.
"I was very surprised to see her," he admitted and Oscar grinned.
"Guess you'll be seeing a lot of her soon too," Max said and both Oscar and Carlos snapped their heads towards him. "Oh fuck."
"What are you talking about?" Lando said confused. All three of them refused to look at him. "Guys?" Oscar sighed.
"She got promoted at Monster and is going to be based out of the UK starting next month," he said and Lando was shocked moving angrily towards him.
"Why didn't anyone fucking tell me that?" He demanded and Carlos stepped in.
"She asked us not to man," he said and Lando slumped back.
"I shouldn't be telling you this because Lily would kill me," Oscar started. "But she was planning on telling you and seeing if you guys could work things out but then the pictures of you and Magui came out and yeah."
"What do you mean pictures?" He asked. "We're just friends, nothing happened."
"Look all I know is that she was really upset and then decided that she didn't want to fix things anymore."
Lando was stunned. He had been with Magui once, and it was in a group. It's not like he could control that those were the pictures that were posted.
Y/n's POV
The race came and went, Oscar securing the win and you were in their hotel room getting ready for the celebration with Lily. Right now you could see her and Oscar whispering to each other, him looking over at you multiple times. Finally Lily came over fidgeting in front of you.
"Spit it out Lil," you said while applying lip gloss in the mirror.
"First I want to say that I didn't mention this earlier because you didn't want to talk about him and then it just never felt like it was going to change anything but after seeing you yesterday and how you reacted I think you should know," she said and you nodded for her to go on. "Nothing happened with that girl. She's one of Max's girlfriend's friends and they were hanging out in a group. I know the pictures looked bad but they weren't really anything."
You looked at her trying to figure out what to say and she continued.
"I know you still care about him. And I know he hurt you but you know how badly he feels about that. So I'm not saying you have to give him a chance romantically but don't let gossip that's not even true hold you back."
"it was much easier when I thought it was true," you smiled sadly at her and she pulled me into a hug.
"You'll figure it out."
You guys showed up at the club a little later, heading to the VIP section where pretty much the whole grid was. Being in Vegas overshadowed having a bad race for sure. Lando was talking with Max and when his eyes met yours you knew that he knew about the job. It all clicked why Lily felt like she had to tell you now. You looked away from Lando quickly following Lily to get a drink.
The next hour the tension between you and Lando grew considerably. The small touch on your back as he moved past you, him catching you staring multiple times, him hovering near you constantly...
Eventually you followed Carlos and Lily down to the dance floor and lost track of Lando. Oscar joined you a little later and you had the most fun that you had all weekend. You soon felt two hands on your waist and were pulled back into someone's chest to dance. You looked up to see Lando holding you, moving you to the music. Eventually you turned around in his arms, wrapping one arm around his neck. You were staring intensely at each other before he leaned in to whisper in your ear.
"Can we talk?"
You nodded and let him pull you off the dance floor, heading back to your section. He found a quiet section in the corner and sat down in an armchair pulling you down to sit on his lap, his arms resting comfortably around your waist.
"This is how you want to talk," you teased and he smiled.
"Easier to hear you like this," he replied before settling into an awkward silence.
"I know-" "I know-" You both started and then stopped amused and he cleared his throat.
"Congratulations on your promotion," he said and you looked down rubbing circles on his arm with your thumb as you mumbled thanks.
"I'm not with that girl," Lando said and you looked back up at him. "She's just a friend."
"I wanted to tell you about the job," you blurted. "But I thought you had moved on because like you said 'you could get any girl you wanted'". He winced as you said this.
"I was upset, and I know it's not a good excuse but you were breaking my heart," he admitted. "Maybe I could get any girl I wanted but that wouldn't matter if I couldn't get you."
You felt butterflies in your stomach and you wrapped your arms around him, resting your head in his neck.
"I'm still going to be far away from you," you mumbled into him.
"A two-hour flight is nothing compared to fourteen," he said bringing a hand up to brush through your hair. "Plus it'd be easier during the season to come stay with you during the in betweens."
"I guess you're right," you agreed and he pulled your chin to look at him.
"I guess I am," he said before he leaned in connecting your lips. You deepened the kiss shifting to where you were straddling him, holding his face in both of your hands. You pulled back resting your head against his, both breathing hard.
"Please come back to my room with me," he begged and you laughed. "Funny business this time."
"You are so lame," you teased slipping off his lap.
"You love it," he said.
"I do," you reply bringing him in for one more short kiss.
The two of you moved out of the section and towards the door holding hands and you smiled as you caught Daniel looking from you to give Max a fist bump.

Shy
Pt 2 Pt 3 Pt 4
Sturniolo Little Sister (SLS) x The Sturniolo Triplets
SLS x Nathan Doe
Warnings: kissing, language, etc. Pure fluff!
SLS/N's POV
I woke up in Matt's bed, alone, unlike last night when I fell asleep with him watching a movie. I fell asleep in a pair of Chris's boxers and one of Nick's hoodies, looking like a train wreck. I throw my hair in a messy bun and then check the time.
11:15 am. Damn, I slept in.
Yawing, I quickly stood up and made my way to the kitchen. I heard my brother's voices coming from the couch as I walked in.
Only it wasn't just my brothers.
Sitting on the couch were Nick, Matt, Chris, and Nathan, who I completely forgot flew in from Boston this morning. He gave me a small smile as I met his eye.
They all turned and stared at me. I immediately felt my face turn red as I looked down at my feet awkwardly.
"Oh good! Sleepy head his up." Nick said. I gave a fake little laugh as I backed out of the room, mumbling something about getting ready. Once I rounded the corner, I sprinted to my room.
I cannot believe I just walked into a room with Nathan Doe, looking like absolute shit.
-
I changed into some cargo jeans and a crew neck, I also curled my hair and added some light makeup to my face. I was desperately trying to revive my first interaction with Nate.
I walked downstairs again, trying a new technique, rather than boxers and a baggy sweatshirt.
When I got downstairs, everyone was still on the couch, but now they had bagels. I grabbed one and sat next to Chris, who just so happened to be a couch cushion away from Nate.
"Well didn't someone dress up all fancy? Big difference compared to Matty's boxers." Chris said, nudging me in my side. I punched him lightly in the shoulder, giggling as my face turned red again. Nate laughed with us, meeting my eye again.
"So, what should we do today?" Nick asked the group, all of us finishing the last of our bagels.
"Top Golf?" Matt suggested. We all nodded in agreement.
"Sounds good to me!" Nate said cheerfully. He stood up to throw his plate away, but as he passed me, he said,
"Lemme get that for you." As he took my plate for me. I smiled at him for a split second before looking away and mumbling thanks, my cheeks feeling hot.
-
As the smallest, I usually sit in the middle back whenever we have company riding in the car with us. Only this time, I was squished between Nick and Nate, our legs constantly touching.
I felt the butterflies rise in my stomach with every little movement, my heartbeat quickening its pace.
But we soon arrived at top golf, our legs separating as we got out of the car.
-
About halfway through a basket of donut holes later, it was my turn to swing again. I placed my ball on the T and swung, barely missing the little red one. My brothers have always been better at gold than me.
"Oh, that was so close SLS/n! But here, try more like this next time." Nate said, walking towards me.
He wrapped his arms around me, grabbing my hands and helping me swing. He was talking, but I wasn't comprehending. The only thing I could think of was how close we were.
"...Got it, SLS/N?" Nate finished.
"I-Um... yeah, thanks," I said, quickly averting my eyes from his perfect smile. He stayed up at a matt since it was his turn, while I bolted to sit next to Nick. I could feel the heat all over my face.
"Someone blushing again," Nick said, nudging my shoulder. I gave him a Please don't say a word look and he just chuckled and then stood up, going to take his turn. But to my surprise, his seat was filled by Nate moments later.
And the cycle continued.
-
It was late. 1:04 am to be exact.
Everyone came home exhausted from our day of fun, showered, and then hit the hay. Except for me.
I woke up thirsty, so I walked down to the kitchen, turned on the overhead lights, then filled a cup with water.
As I was taking small sips of my water and scrolling through my notifications on my phone, I saw someone's hands being placed on the counter on both sides of me.
I quickly spun around, almost spilling my water and dropping my phone in the process, and came face to face with Nate.
I let out a breathy laugh, saying,
"Holy shit, you scared the fuck outta me!" He laughed lightly, giving me a lazy smile, his arms still on either side of me, trapping me.
Butterflies.
Our noses were only centimeters apart, and Nate was only leaning in closer.
God, I hope I don't have morning breath, I thought as he gently laid his lips against mine. He smelled amazing and tasted even better.
After a couple of seconds, he started to move his lips along mine, deepening the kiss. Just when I was starting to get the hang of it, he pulled away.
My face got hot and turned beet red as I rested my forehead on his chest, hiding my face.
"No, no, none of that. Don't get all shy on me baby." he said, laughing lightly as he used his index finger and thumb to lift my chin. I looked into his eyes, and just as I thought he was about to kiss me again, he backed up, moving his arms.
"You should go back to bed, you need rest." He then reached behind me and grabbed my water glass, taking a sip, and then handed it to me. I took it, staring at him dumbfounded as he walked back to Chrisâs room.
Shortly after, I did the same. But as soon as I laid down, my phone buzzed.
It was a text from Nick.
I fucking knew it.

sand traps
Lando Norris x Amelie Dayman
Summary: Landoâs attempt to find solace on the golf course turns into an uncomfortable confrontation with ghosts from his past.
Wordcount: 1.3 k
Warnings: just fluff
full masterlist // request over here!
May 4th, 2023 - Miami, FL
The Florida sun was unforgiving as Lando stepped out of his car, slinging his golf bag over his shoulder and adjusting his cap. A day on the golf course was exactly what he needed to unwind before the Miami Grand Prixâa chance to clear his head, escape the relentless pressure of racing, and enjoy the company of Zak Brown and a few other McLaren bigwigs. Golf was his sanctuary, a sport he loved nearly as much as racing, though heâd never admit that publicly.
As he walked toward the clubhouse, he spotted Zak waiting near the first tee, chatting with a couple of other McLaren sponsors. Lando waved, quickening his pace, but as he drew closer, his stomach dropped. Standing beside Zak, dressed in casual golf attire with an unmistakable air of authority, was him.
Elias Dayman.
Amelieâs father.
And next to him, leaning lazily against his own golf bag with a sly grin on his face, was Jack Dayman.
Landoâs heart sank. Of all the people he couldâve bumped into today, why them? He hadnât seen Elias or Jack since⊠well, since everything had fallen apart with Amelie. Back when he and Amelie were close, heâd been practically part of their family, spending holidays at their house, sharing laughs with Jack over video games, and earning that warm, approving smile from Elias that made him feel like he truly belonged.
But today, there was no warmth in Eliasâ gaze. No approving smile. Just a cold, hard glare that made Lando feel like a scolded schoolboy before a word had even been exchanged.
âLando,â Zak called out, oblivious to the tension as he clapped a hand on Landoâs shoulder. âGlad you made it. Youâve met Elias Dayman, havenât you? And his son, Jack.â
Lando swallowed hard, forcing a polite smile as he extended his hand. âOf course. Nice to see you again, Mr. Dayman.â
Elias shook his hand briefly, his grip firm and unyielding. âLando,â he said, his tone neutral but his eyes burning with an intensity that made Lando want to disappear into the nearest sand trap.
Jack, on the other hand, didnât bother hiding his amusement. âLando,â he said, his grin widening. âDidnât think weâd be seeing you here.â
âYeah,â Lando replied, trying to keep his tone light. âSmall world, I guess.â
Zak, blissfully unaware of the awkward undercurrent, ushered everyone toward the first hole, chatting about the Grand Prix weekend and McLarenâs plans for the season. Lando tried to focus on the conversation, but he could feel Eliasâ eyes on him, watching his every move like a hawk.
As the game progressed, Landoâs usual confidence on the course began to waver. He couldnât shake the weight of Eliasâ silent judgment or the occasional smirk from Jack, who seemed to be enjoying his discomfort a little too much. Lando kept his head down, focusing on his swing, but every missed putt felt like a metaphor for his current situationâoff balance, out of sync, and underperforming.
By the time they reached the ninth hole, the tension was unbearable. Lando was standing by his bag, adjusting his glove, when Elias finally spoke.
âYouâve got a good swing,â Elias said, his tone casual but his words laced with something far more cutting. âShame your follow-through doesnât always hit the mark.â
Lando froze, his stomach twisting. He knew a double meaning when he heard one.
âThanks,â he said cautiously, not daring to look up.
Elias took a step closer, lowering his voice so only Lando could hear. âYou know, I used to think you were different. Thought you cared about my daughter. Thought you respected her. But I guess I was wrong.â
Landoâs chest tightened, his hands gripping the edge of his golf bag as he struggled to find the right words.
âMr. Dayman, I...â
âDonât,â Elias interrupted, his voice sharp but calm. âDonât insult me with excuses. You had her trust, her heart, and you threw it away like it was nothing. You think I donât know how you broke her?â
Landoâs throat was dry, his mind racing as he tried to process the weight of Eliasâ words.
âI didnât mean to...â
âDidnât mean to?â Elias echoed, his voice rising slightly. âDo you have any idea what she went through because of you? Do you even care?â
âDad, come on,â Jack interjected, stepping between them before things could escalate further. âWeâre here to play golf, not rehash ancient history.â
Elias didnât take his eyes off Lando, his jaw clenched tightly. âJust remember this, Norris. You stay away from her. You donât call, you donât text, you donât even think about her. Youâre not welcome anywhere near my daughter.â
Lando nodded stiffly, his head bowed as Jack gently steered Elias away toward the cart. The rest of the round passed in a blur, Lando barely registering the conversation around him as he replayed Eliasâ words over and over in his head.
The remainder of the golf outing was a slow-moving nightmare for Lando. Each swing of his club felt heavier, each hole longer. The once-enjoyable game had turned into an exercise in endurance, with Eliasâ words echoing in his mind like a relentless mantra.
You stay away from her. Youâre not welcome anywhere near my daughter.
By the time they reached the eighteenth hole, Landoâs patienceâand his composureâwere wearing thin. He had been trying to focus on the game, but every glance from Elias felt like a dagger, and Jackâs occasional smirks werenât helping. Zak, still unaware of the tension, was chatting animatedly about an upcoming McLaren event, blissfully ignorant of the turmoil unfolding under his nose.
As they wrapped up the game, Zak clapped Lando on the shoulder. âNot your best day, mate, but hey, at least youâre better on the track.â
Lando forced a smile, mumbling something noncommittal as they headed back to the clubhouse. He just wanted to get out of there, away from Eliasâ piercing gaze and the unspoken weight of Jackâs presence.
Once inside, Zak excused himself to chat with a sponsor, leaving Lando to pack up his gear. As he bent to retrieve his bag, Jack appeared beside him, leaning casually against the locker.
âRough day, huh?â Jack said, his tone light but laced with amusement.
Lando straightened, his jaw tightening. âSomething like that.â
Jack chuckled, crossing his arms. âYouâre lucky, you know. Dad kept it relatively civil. I thought he was going to bury you in the sand trap back on the ninth.â
Lando shot him a look, unsure whether Jack was joking or not. âYeah, I got that impression.â
âLook, Lando,â Jack said, his tone softening slightly. âI get it. Things happen. Relationships fall apart. But Amelie? Sheâs not just some girl. Sheâs Amelie. You were practically family to us, and youâwell, you fucked it up. Royally.â
Lando swallowed hard, his throat dry. âI know I did. I didnât mean for it to...â
âYeah, Iâm sure you didnât,â Jack interrupted, his voice sharp. âBut intentions donât mean shit when the outcomeâs the same. She trusted you, man. We all did. And now? Youâre just a sore spot in her story.â
Lando flinched at the words, the weight of them hitting harder than any of Eliasâ glares. âI didnât want to hurt her. I... I cared about her. A lot.â
Jack studied him for a moment, his expression unreadable. âMaybe you did. Maybe you still do. But caring about someone isnât enough if you canât show up for them. And you didnât.â
Lando wanted to argue, to explain, but what could he say? Jack was right. He hadnât been there for Amelie when it mattered most. He had let her down, and the damage was done.
âFor what itâs worth,â Jack added, his tone softer now, âI donât think youâre a bad guy, Lando. Just a dumbass who didnât know what he had until it was gone.â
With that, Jack pushed off the locker and walked away, leaving Lando standing alone with his thoughts. The truth stung, but he couldnât deny it. He had lost Amelie, not just as a lover, but as a friend, as someone he could rely on. And now, her family, the people who once welcomed him with open arms, saw him as nothing more than a mistake.
As Lando stepped out into the Miami heat, his chest felt tight. Golf had always been his escape, but today, it had been anything but. Instead, it had become a harsh reminder of the bridges he had burned and the person he used to be.
And as he climbed into his car and drove away, he couldnât help but wonder if he would ever find a way to make things rightâor if he even deserved to.

This was a couple of decades ago when I worked in sales, letâs say for an electronics company or appliance company or something similar to that. We had an older gentleman come in and he wanted to buy some high end stuff and quite a bit of it, so we were more than willing to help him out. Things started getting out of hand with him pretty quickly though. He was starting to demand that during the delivery and installation we would do stuff above and beyond what we could do because what he was asking for was against corporate policy. When we started to explain some of this to him he was all âYou donât know who I am, do you?â and he started to tell us that he used to be the ceo of a global company that Iâll leave unnamed. Think something big like energy, tech, or media. A company that has products in almost every household. He was telling us how corporate policies are all about lawyers and accountants and he doesnât give a damn about that kind of stuff. If anything went wrong he wouldnât hold anyone accountable and we could take him for his word. He said he used to make multimillion dollar deals on the golf course or over dinner with nothing more than handshakes and promises of phone calls over the next week to further hash things out.
We all thought this man was full of shit but he was willing to spend a lot of money, so we just let him keep on talking while we figured out ways to talk him down from his unrealistic expectations. It felt like a hostage negotiation. From time to time he would go on tangents and give us his âinsider knowledgeâ about this company or that. It was all far from insider knowledge. It was everyday stuff that could easily be learned by reading Forbes or The Wall Street Journal.
I was the main salesperson and his first point of contact so I talked to him the most. He talked foul and looked completely disheveled. Everything about him and the whole interaction was the exact opposite of the types of corporate businessmen I was used to dealing with. I was starting to think we were getting conned. After about two long and painful hours the sale was completed and payments went through, much to my surprise. While a lot of equipment needed to be delivered, I volunteered to load the stuff we had on hand into his car. When we got out to the parking lot I saw that his car was a busted up and rusted out relic from the mid â80s. I thought that there was no way an ex-ceo of a global company would be driving something so crappy. I was convinced that he was just taking us for a ride for God knowâs what reason.
When I got home from work that night I googled his name. Lo and behold there he was with photographs and articles. Tons of them. Not only was he who he said he was, he actually downplayed his career. I printed out some of the articles to take into work the next day. My boss, my coworkers, and I went over them, just dumb struck. We just couldnât believe it. This complete asshole was exactly who he said he was. We ended up calling the installers to give them a heads up and warn them that they were probably be going to deal with one of the most difficult customers theyâd see that year.
We never saw him again. On the one hand we were happy because none of us wanted to deal with him again. On the other hand we were kind of disappointed. He spent money without even trying.
I believed he was who he said he was before you said you looked him up.
The really rich people (worth billions) will drive a thirty year old car, wear clothes decades out of date, and expect a lot of things "extra" on everything they do buy. That's how they stay rich. The CEO of our company is still using a flip phone and came to our meeting (when I was still in corporate) in jeans and a t-shirt. And that dude is worth billions.
The showoff's (flashy car, new phone/bag/shoes) either are millionaires that will not be rich their whole life. Or celebrities/influencer's that need to have that image of wealth.
At least that's my experience in retail corporate and working security for the mouse.
-Rodney
