Doll Man 2019. . Before Ant Man and even the Atom, there was Doll Man; Darrell Dane was the first comic character to develop a formula allowing him to shrink (to about six inches) while retaining his normal strength. I've been unearthing pieces of my comic collection in preparation for my move, and I'm still not over the fact that I have art from Allan Bellman. While never credited directly until later, he was an artist during the Golden Age of Marvel, and his work helped shape some of my favorite heroes, including Captain America and Bucky Barnes. In the middle of major reconstruction of @zeek166th room, I decided to put up his #wallofmarvelcomics posters to jazz up the space. He already loves all the favs like Black Panther (he was for Halloween), Avengers, Spider-Man (of course), Thanos and Iron Man etc.... what I especially love is that as he gets older, he'll notice the different styles of characters by each artist & I'll get to share some of my favorite works with him.... there's 2 kirbys up there but I'm holdin out on the other early Kirby's and Ditko's. The Woman In Red, 2019. . This lady was making red look good before Carmen Sandiego. Peggy Allen’s normal job is with the police, but she stated doing the vigilante thing after being fed up with how often crooks got away with their crimes. She doesn’t have any superpowers, but she is a great detective and a darn good actress, going in disguise to assess the situation before striking as the Woman In Red. She counts as the first masked female crime fighter in comics. Strictly speaking she’s also in the public domain, but that status is heavily contested. As a kid growing up in the Philippines, my mom would always come back from the US with bags full of comic books she bought used from thrift stores/garage sales/ flea markets. 70% of them were unwanted comics by Steve Ditko's obscure heroes, like the Creeper and Blue Beetle.
