Everybody Eats Someone: Western Han Biting Artifact

Gold belt buckle of Western Han dynasty. Unearthed from the tomb of King of Chu of on Lion Rock (獅子山), Xuzhou (徐州), Jiangsu.

This dramatic buckle consists of two rectangular gold belt plates and a gold tongue. On the reliefs, everybody is eating someone. The heraldic bears of the Xiong (熊) clan, a prolongation of the royal House of Mi (芈), are present. The Ye (葉) family Taoist lineage I’ve examined here is from the same clan and House.

The bear totem is still pertinent for those with surnames Mi (芈), Yan (酓 or 檿), Shen (沈), Xiong (熊), Ye (葉), Xiang (項), Qu (屈).

The heraldic elements in the form of images represent rather archaic practice. They were gradually supplanted in China by the designation of belonging through the surnames’ hieroglyphs of or mottos.

On display in the Xuzhou Museum (徐州博物館).

soap taking rudy’s hat with a sweet little innocent smile and plopping right down on his own head, flushing bright pink as rudy’s eyes darken. rudy completely downing his drink and pulling soap in for a heated kiss, soap melting against his lips, exhilarated, knowing damn well where the night is about to lead.

i think its cute that the color palettes of sonic tails and amys outfits are the same. amy changed her style so drastically in the transition from classic to modern so her and her besties could match :)

This is these are the earliest known depictions of the great khan, or "khagan," of the Göktürks

The Göktürks of Central Asia may have originated as an ethnic group under the Xiongnu, that ruled the eastern Eurasian Steppe from about the second century B.C. until about the first century A.D.

The two gold plaques were found in the central chamber of the tomb where the prince was cremated; one was badly damaged by the fire of the cremation.

Measuring about 1.5 inches (3.7 centimeters) across, both seem to be a form of belt buckle that would have had two ends of a belt threaded through a hole at its base so they hung down from the waist.

Byzantine gold belt buckle, found in Syria, 6th-7th century AD.

Gold belt buckles were usually personalised with the owner's name, like the small monogram of Theodore seen on this luxurious example. Belt buckles were in use in the Byzantine Empire by the 5th century, when the Roman toga began to be replaced by trousers as part of the cultural influence of the northern migratory peoples.
