it’s late when nanami finally gets home. the kind of late that turns the sky a deep, endless blue, where even the city noise has quieted down. he steps into the apartment, sighing as he loosens his tie, his shoulders heavy with the weight of the day.

and then he sees you.

standing in the entryway, waiting for him, a bouquet of white lilies cradled in your arms.

“welcome home,” you say, soft and warm.

for a moment, nanami just stares. his tired eyes flick from the flowers to your face, like he’s trying to piece together why you’re standing there, holding something so delicate after the kind of day he’s had.

“you’re giving me flowers?” his voice is quieter than usual, a little rough around the edges.

you nod, stepping closer. “i just… wanted you to have something nice.”

he exhales, slow and measured, like he’s steadying himself. but there’s something else in his expression now—something softer, something unbearably fond.

he takes the bouquet from you carefully, his fingers brushing against yours. he doesn’t say anything at first, just looks at the flowers like he’s memorizing them.

“they’re beautiful,” he finally murmurs. then, a little softer, “thank you.”

you smile. “you deserve nice things too, you know.”

nanami closes his eyes briefly, as if he’s letting the words sink in. when he opens them again, there’s something lighter about him. he leans down, pressing a kiss to your forehead—gentle, lingering.

“and you,” he says, “are the nicest thing of all.”
