I’ve always found the way the Go Jet Academy is structured to be really fascinating, especially in terms of the focuses- or really, the lack of them. Canonically speaking, there are only 5 (Pilot, Sport, Engineer, Strat, Ecology), and that already doesn’t match up with the much wider variety of staff we see on-campus, as well as the studies and teachings going on. So I wanted to take a crack at expanding upon the idea a little bit, by changing one factor- broadness.

The names used for the GJA tracks are never really consistent- Lars’ focus has been listed as engineering and mechanics in different places, and Foz’s has gone from “genius”, to “science”, depending where you look. Not to mention, the pitch bible also calls Lars a botanist, while in s3 Tala is introduced as an ecologist. So what’s the fix? Changing the wording, because technically, canon never actually defines these boxes, and how tight or broad they are.

Instead of hyper-specific roles, my pitch is that each colour of uniform indicates a “track”- a broad group of studies, each of which revolve around a particular topic. Each track links back to the Academy’s goal, of learning about the Earth, and helping to preserve it. This allows for two cadets to be under the same track, but studying two different things, kind of like a “major” system !

I also wanted to add more tracks alongside the original ones- there’s no way the Academy doesn’t teach more, and these are just some of my ideas for other fields of study, as well as their associated colours and logos. Some of these tracks come from the fact that we see teachers for them, others felt like a natural fit for the academy based off of canon context, and episodes.

The grimbots and their place in the timeline is kinda weird to me. We don’t see them in any of the childhood photos of Glitch at the Go Jet Academy, but according to the S1 Christmas Special, he got his first ever Grimbot as a Christmas present, BEFORE he was ever a cadet at the Go Jet Academy.

A lot of people don’t consider the Christmas Special to be canon, but here’s my proposal, which kind of keeps the childhood flashback scene AND the lack of grimbots at the time of Glitch being a cadet intact, in a way that I think makes sense, and also allows for “glitch invented the grimbots” to somewhat coexist?

What if The first Grimbot Glitch ever got wasn’t a Grimbot? Not in the sense we know them, at least. My personal theory is that this was a toy robot of sorts. The only real functionality of it would have been exactly what we see in the episode- it flies, it can record voice messages. Naturally, he’s very attached to it- similar to his attachment to Cuddles, who we know he’s had for a long time as well. After being expelled from the GJA, he built his first Grimbot, using the parts from this toy for the physical body, making the more advanced code, tech and AI himself, in order to create the “perfect companion”, after losing Ubercorn. One that’s loyal to a fault, doing everything in his best interest. So with what little resource he had left after hitting rock bottom, the first Grimbot comes to light.

Making more came later, naturally, perfecting the tech and making alterations to the looks to be more personalized to the image he was making for himself, which explains things like the Grimbots having differently coloured buttons to the first Grimbot, and the expansion on abilities. Tweaking and nailing down the AI they use to think- likely a “learning AI” where they function under the objective of “what is the quickest / easiest way to accomplish (goal)”.

GJ Families - Headcanon Mini-Post

I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but because I’m very busy at the moment, it’s hard to find the time to make big posts. So, I’m trying my best to be okay with making smaller, more simple posts, and this is kind of testing that format. And what better than sharing some headcanons about what I think the Go Jetters’ families are like?? It’s been a long time coming, haha.

For now, I’m only doing the Funky Five (Xuli, Kyan, Lars, Foz and Tala), but maybe in the future I’ll drop a thing or two about the others. Each character has their own little section, with a mini-Drabble about what I think their family structure is, and maybe even some little HCs about some of the members. I hope you like this layout, and feel free to ask questions ! Any rude comments will be deleted.

XULI

Xuli is adopted! She has two mothers, Alejandra and Lina, who adopted her when she was two. Additionally, she has an older brother, Sol, age 19- who is her biological brother- and a younger sister named Aurelia, age 12, who is also adopted. Xuli’s family is upper middle class, her Mum (Alejandra) working as a lawyer, and her Mama (Lina) working as a hairdresser. Xuli’s family is very loving and supporting of her endeavors, and she has her Mum’s stubborn personality and her Mama’s love for sightseeing !

KYAN

Kyan was raised in a multi-generational household, living with both his parents and his grandparents in California. His grandparents and parents are all immigrants from China, with Kyan being the first of their family to be born in the states. His Father, Mako, along with his grandparents, run a popular Chinese restaurant on a boardwalk, which Kyan used to work at as a child, while his mother, Daiyu, works as a dentist. Kyan is particularly close with his grandparents, who were very supportive of his athletic dreams in particular.

LARS

Lars grew up in the countryside, on a small farm, with his single Dad, Dominic, Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Benjamin, as well as his little sister, Juno, and his younger twin cousins, Aria and Piper. While living on the farm instilled a love of animals early, his love for machinery came from there too, watching how the different machinery there worked, and learning to fix tractors and farm gear by watching his uncle- and quickly becoming better than him at it! Lars is very close with his family, but has a specially strong bond with both his sister and cousins.

FOZ

Foz is from a richer family, and is an “age gap” kid- meaning that there’s at least 10 years between him and his siblings. He lives with his Mother and Father- the owners of a jewelry company, and an emerald mine, while his three older siblings, Stephanie (27), Andrew (23) and Austin (23), have already moved out of home to peruse their own careers. Foz isn’t particularly close with the rest of his family, having attended boarding school before the GJA, and not growing up alongside his siblings.

TALA

Tala’s family is very well off- after all, with a family history as incredible as the Glitches have, how couldn’t they be? Tala lives with her father, Gabriel Glitch - who is Grandmaster Glitch’s twin brother, and her mother, Reagan Cade-Glitch, as well as her half-brother on her mom’s side, Callum Cade, in the Glitch Estate, which has been in their family for years. Tala spend much of her time as a child in the garden, talking with the family’s gardener about new and fun plant or bug facts.

Hi ! Thanks for the ask!

My favorite season of the show is probably Series 2! It's the one that got me into the show, and I also think it has the best animation, and most consistent quality of storylines, as well as a great balance when it comes to character focus and interactions.

My favorite episode? There are many I like, but nothing will ever beat s2 e11, Harbin Ice City, for me. It has a fun and engaging plot, the character interactions are great, the location is interesting, the Glitch is very unique when compared to other surrounding episodes, and of course- the climax of the episode, where Kyan almost dies. Love the high stakes, followed by the relief he's okay. It's quite fun to think about the aftermath of it, and look further at the stuff the show itself wouldn't, because of the target demographic.

It's hard for me to cite just one reason I like the show so much, because there are a lot of draws to it! I love the general premise of the show, and I certainly think that the characters, and how they interact with the world and one another is also a huge draw. I also love the light serialization and world building. While the show is episodic, there is a clear order to events, and there is lore implied and scattered across the show, and I love getting to analyze and theorize events. There's a lot more I could say about why I like it. Go Jetters has a special place in my heart!

I don't think I could rank the characters, but I will say that my favorite character is Kyan!

Wow I can’t believe that these Go Jetters fact files have been real the whole time !

Graphic design isn’t my strong suit, but I love a good character bio page! And while the Go Jetters have a few, none of them have been as detailed or informative as I’d like, starting and finishing with just a few sentences. So, I wanted to give a shot at making my own ! And these are the result. (:

The info on these is a mix of both my headcanons and actual information from canon, more limited characters bios. It’s pretty easy to tell which is which, but this disclaimer is still important to make. These are free to use, please don’t spread (more) misinformation that they’re real though. They’re not, I made these.

For now I have just made the Go Jetter team- but I’d love to maybe do a part two, with a few more characters! We’ll see.

▪︎ REDESIGNING JETPAD (JETT)

Part two of what I intend to be my Go Jetters Re-Imagined / Redesigned series !! This time, is a redesign that allowed me to be a little more creative- JetPad !! In the show's canon, JetPad is both the name of the Go Jetters' mothership, and a sentient super-computer who helps to run the GJA, and assists Ubercorn in missions. I wanted to separate the two entities, and allow for JetPad, the sentient super-computer and CHARACTER to have more personality and storyline presence. So, she now has a holographic human form, allowing her to actually go on missions!

Similar to Ubercorn, Jett's design features a 70s and 80s Disco influence, but with Jett, I wanted her to look more professional than party. She wears an orange bustier top, and white flared bell-bottom style pants, with glittery star patches to tie her back into the Go Jetter identity. Mostly hidden, she wears a silk belt, with a star brooch. Over top, she wears what is probably my favourite clothing item of hers, a blue blazer with shoulder padding! Jett also wears orange boots, and winged glasses. All of her design elements in terms of outfit are inspired by the design of the JetPad vehicle, with the glasses emulating the large front mirror, the padded shoulders on the blazer for the large overtop vents, and even the heels resembling the two side jet boosters of the airship. I personally felt that even if the mothership and the sentient Jett were separated as entities, the latter possessing visual similarity would help to keep her recognisable as "JetPad".

I also changed her hair from my last design, giving her something more short, swoopy, and dynamic, as opposed to the rigid state of the old one. Plus- I think that this one is more visually unique. In terms of personality, she is the dead-pan, and slightly snarky foil to Ubercorn, assisting him and the Go Jetters in missions, as she is hooked up to all of the technology they own, as well as the internet. She can interact with the world around her, but people sometimes fall through her hologram body, mistaking it for real. And that's my design deep dive !!

I hope that you all like my redesign- I am SO SO SUPER PROUD of how this one turned out!! Now that I have that free time I mentioned in my last post, I hope to do the rest of the main cast, and create a full collection of these artworks!! These redesigns bring me so much joy, and I hope that you all like them just as much. Just like Ubercorn, I have made a "Funky Fact File" version of the work, to help you all get to know Jett, with the bio including my headcanons, a little bit of canon itself, and a fun alternate layout. Original JetPad Design (The Mothership) - (For Reference)

GO JETTERS ☆ FUTURE HEADCANONS !!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a big headcanons post- and this certainly is a big one ! Potential futures for the Go Jetters cast is something that has always intrigued me, so I wanted to share some of my current headcanons for where I think the Go Jetters and co may end up in the future ! This post is messy and a little long, but it’s a lot of fun to think about all of these concepts, and thinking of futures for these characters that reflect their personalities, interests, talents and goals, as well as some more mundane stuff, such as where they live, how they dress, little flaws and quirks, or just how they may act that differs a little from canon !

Regarding the age of the cast for these headcanons- I would imagine that this is around the 30s/40s for the Funky 4 + Tala, and 70s/80s for Ubercorn and Grandmaster Glitch. This post is a little less organized than my usual headcanons posts, and I hope that’s okay! There’s a little bit of bleed and blend that allows for better segues for this one, so making defined segments for each character didn’t really make sense.

Reminder that these are all headcanons, and are meant for fun! If you disagree, or don’t like these, that’s a-okay !! I do hope you enjoy reading them though !

Rambles under the cut because oh boy is this a long one-

To preface- the Go Jetters have long since graduated the academy at this point! None of the Funky 4 work directly at the academy full time, but have kept in contact and are respected alumni. Maybe every now and again, they pop in to visit, or teach a one-off lesson, but the academy is not their forever place, and for the most part they have found new places and passions. This does not mean they have lost contact with eachother- the Funky 4 & Tala are all still incredibly close friends, they just don’t always see eachother as often ! While Ubercorn has had GJ teams before the funky 4, and has had teams since, he still holds them particularly close, because they helped to reunite him with Glitch. Ubercorn has had many Go Jetters, many cadets, but none quite like them- none who left an impression so big that it included reuniting him with someone so important to him.

Ubercorn still works at the Go Jet Academy! Even in his older years, he is still the academy’s top mentor for their globetrotting team for phase 2 students. Nothing can stop him from sharing his funky facts- he’s far too passionate and strong willed to be stopped. He also hasn’t aged much physically- only a few grey hairs and barley any wrinkles! Most assume that this is normal for him- since they don’t exactly know how unicorns work.

Ubercorn and Grandmaster Glitch are finally together! Nobody really knows if they are married, or if they are dating, but they’re romantically involved, and finally at a place of peace in their relationship. And really, that’s all that matters.

At some point, shortly after s3 in terms of timeline, Glitch was welcomed back to the academy, and worked alongside Ubercorn. But unlike his partner, Glitch has now retired. He still lives at the Go Jet Academy, forever a freeloader of that island. He’s a bit of an eccentric grandfather figure to the cadets, and he looks the part too. He still causes antics, no doubt about that, but people seem to be more forgiving of him because they misjudge him as a “kooky old man”. A lot of the staff, as well as more recent Go Jetter teams, have a love/hate relationship with him because of this. He still absolutely wears the suit & chimney ears, and his grimbots still follow him around, forever perpetuating his nonsense.

Who else works for the Academy? Tala Glitch! Although, it’s only part time, with the other “part” of her job being dedicated to her research. Tala has a doctorate in ecology, and studies rare and endangered plant species, taking samples into captivity to research and regrow the numbers, in order to plant them back in their natural habitats again and replenish the species that are most vital to an ecosystem, both gif and small. Thanks to her work with the GJA, she is able to get more resources to accomplish the goal. She teaches at the academy part-time, and sometimes takes cadets along with her on her expeditions to find and recover plants. The cadets all LOVE her. She also does conservation work and has even made a few groundbreaking discoveries- her work is never truly done ! Tala still beekeeps- it’s now just for fun however.

Onto our first Go Jetter! Foz Helquist is an author, who is oddly known for prolific work in two very different worlds- he writes educational textbooks and sci-fi novels ! It’s the happiest and most fulfilled he has ever been, if you asked him. Post graduation, he had originally pursued a career in science, something he considered to be “expected” of him, considering his skipping of school years to join the Go Jetters team, and early graduation. However, he eventually realized that no matter how hard he tried, this career didn’t make him feel happy or fulfilled, so he took a step back, and took a break. During this time, he wrote the first of his sci-fi novels that would go on to be published. He found that he’d never been happier than when he was writing- and he loved to write just as much as he loved to read- so he decided to take the risk and get into the publishing world. It all worked out, too! While he is better known for his academic works, and the textbooks and research that he publishes, he has a soft spot for his novels, inspired by his adventures at the academy, and classic authors such as Jules Verne and Mary Shelley’s works.

Tala and Foz are together, but they are not married. Not every relationship’s “end goal” is marriage, but this does not undermine their relationship. There is no doubt that their love is strong, and that they are happy together. Tala and Foz have a house together somewhere in the English countryside, with a LOT of land, to accommodate for Tala’s plants and gardens, with room to spare for more. While Tala isn’t always home, due to her job, Foz is there most of the time, as his office and writing room are all there.

Lars Oxford is living his best life, and he is working hard ! He got his first job very quickly after graduating, and not much has changed since then. He works for the military, creating prototypes for military aircraft! He was scouted out thanks to his work on academy vehicles, particularly inventing the turbo zoomster all on his own, and he loves getting to build, try and test new vehicles. His work has probably been the most “consistent” of the four Go Jetters. He travels around the UK for work, and owns two houses- one in England, his mainstay home, and a smaller house in Paris, France, which he rents out to someone else but refuses to sell- it’s got the best view of the Eiffel Tower ever, who knows when he’ll need to stay there again! He has done a *little* bit of work for the academy since graduating- he finally invented a mainstay boat vehicle with similar functionality and purpose to the Vroomster and Truckster! Lars is comfortably single (aroace and thriving!), but has many a pet, including a one-eyed dog and a large red bird.

Xuli and Kyan are married ! If any of the couples was to be- it’d definitely be them. They couldn’t decide on wether they wanted to take one surname, or do a double barrel, so they ended up doing neither and just choosing a new surname instead- Volante! Xuli and Kyan live together in Spain, with Xuli convincing Kyan to make the move because they’d be much closer to the other Go Jetters, and because the US just isn’t the best place to live. Kyan learns Spanish… eventually. (Footnote: similar to marriage, I feel like if any GJ couple was to have kids, it’d be xyan. I have a concept for a hypothetical xyan kid who would fit into this future (Scott, age 8), but I’m still not sure if I want to include it or not. So for now, I’m just leaving this note here, because wether they have a kid or not does not really effect their jobs or living situation. Maybe they have a kid, maybe they don’t! However if you WANT to see the concepts, do be sure to let me know and I will share!)

Xuli has been through a lot of jobs, and a lot of hair colours. After graduation, she was a stunt pilot for a few years, then had a stint as a commercial pilot for all of two weeks, before deciding it was boring and quitting, and tried out test piloting, before finding herself as a flight instructor- teaching younger pilots the ropes. It’s not the same rush she used to get, but there’s a new joy in it. And there’s just something really fun about getting to show off to a bunch of new recruits, and then getting to build them up to do the same. As aforementioned- Xuli doesn’t stop dyeing her hair! At one point, she has to cut it all off because she’s fried it so badly, and has to let it grow back again healthy. She doesn’t keep it as long as it used to be, but it’s still got some sort of undercut or side shaved aspect to it. She still does photography as a hobby, and loves to get a good aerial shot!

Kyan’s journey is odd, but not surprising. He got his big shot in his 20s, getting to compete in the olympics/paralympics (I HC him as an amputee) twice. He places one of the two times. After finishing his run, he refuses the job of becoming a coach to the next gymnastics stars- he cannot see himself enjoying it. Instead, he turns to something else that still allows him to be active and use his fantastic gymnastics and fast thinking skills- cinema! Kyan becomes a stunt double and stunt coordinator for TV and movies! Coming up with stunt routines for himself and others, making sure it is both impressive and safe to perform. At the Go Jet Academy, he already had a stunt gig once in the “hospital for broken hearts” movie, so it’s not like this is new to him- it’s a grand return! He loves to point out his name in the movie credits at cinemas. When it comes to hobbies, he still enjoys dance, but finds himself liking cooking more and more with each day, taking any chance to create an elaborate dish for his friends or family.

Although for the most part, the Go Jetters are split apart, and don’t see each other every day, their friendship is still incredibly strong ! Since all 5 live in Europe, they try to meet up at least once every 3 months, either travelling to the other or meeting at a “half-way” point to see each other ! It’s in no way typical, but when have they ever been? And they make it work. They see Ubercorn and Glitch much less, but if Ubercorn is passing by where any of them live or are staying, he’s not opposed to popping in to say “hi” and catching up.

I know these headcanons won’t appeal to everyone, not all will like that these are on the more “domestic” side, as opposed to the action oriented show, and that’s okay!
