I stood and sketched straight out of Van Gogh’s journal before taking this photo. It was utterly unreal.

Reflections on the Van Gogh Museum: //I do not think I will ever romanticize Van Gogh. Inherently, art romanticizes us as we create it and after we are gone. That is beautiful. But it is a veil that only stays so opaque and wears sheer at the reality of a man falling into deep and tragic mental illness. The man's work warrants every credit it has received, in my opinion, but his life, despite the tragically satisfying literary arc of it, deserves mourning and honesty. //The profound tragedy of a man destroyed--but possibly created--by crippling social and mental illness can't be overstated.
