Art tools pt2 feat. the tools I use for watercolor ✨ (pt1 was for ink drawings) For LINEART, i use very fine mechanical pencils (0.3) If I want the outlines to be visible, then I stick with drawing pens. I also got these super slim refillable precision erasers by Slendy (I also got one of Mono but forgot to include it in the photo), both from TokyuHands. I also use this sharpenable pencil-style Staedtler eraser which has a nifty little brush at the end for sweeping away eraser dust. For PAPER, I try all sorts (I hoard the stuff haha). I generally prefer cold-press to hot-press, but it's also dependent on what look I'm after. I also like rough paper for added texture. Minimum 300gsm. I like getting mini watercolor blocks, where it's glued down on all sides, so that you don't need to stretch the paper or worry about it shifting while you work. But it's good to try different kinds first before committing to a whole block. Fabriano & Arches, for example, have come out with these small packs of paper specifically so you can try it out before deciding to buy a giant sheet or whole pad of it. For WATERCOLORS, I've been trying several brands. When I was just starting out earlier this year, I relied almost solely on a basic Prang set. I also had a travel set from Winsor & Newton that I'd bought ages ago. It's a nice, compact set with very good saturated hues. I also have an old set of Reeves tubes which I don't use so much (I think tubes are better for large paintings. I've only been painting tiny pieces). I also got giant-pan watercolors from Japan. One Kuretake, and two more sets that are other Jap brands that I can't translate but I quite like their quality better than the Kuretake. I've also tried a local brand called Sea Mountain Co., which has a good selection of nature-y & subtle hues. I also like my Inktense set (which took me ages to find), for a slightly varied effect. For BRUSHES, I've been using these water brushes purely for convenience although the more experience I've gained, the more I've been trying to switch to actual watercolor brushes (a recent splurge 😭)
