One has to imagine the heights the Imperium of man might reach if it weren't for the fact that they probably spend like 10% of their gross domestic product in just the fabrication and shipping of votive candles

The fandom god discussion is interesting, but I feel it’s sometimes hindered by an unwillingness to separate gods from mortal society, or even a sort of over-eagerness to project our own reality onto them, which simply doesn’t work. I've seen the gods referred to as rulers or tyrants demanding worship (which I kinda understand because it’s something Ludinus says in-game, though it’s funny to see fandom corners confidently repeat the inaccurate talking points of the antagonist) but more interestingly I've also seen them referred to as a higher/the highest social class, as colonizers imposing themselves on mortals, the raven queen specifically as new money. Overall these comparisons tend to talk about the gods and their actions regarding Aeor in the past and predathos/the Vanguard in the present less as if they're about saving their own lives and more as if they want to preserve their powerful position.
The gods, by their very nature, are above mortals. They cannot be compared to any mortal ruling class because they didn’t choose or strive for that power and cannot feasibly get rid of it/step down/redistribute it (nor do they actually in any sense rule; killing the raven queen, unlike killing an actual queen, will not end the 'tyranny' of death), they simply have it by virtue of being gods. Saying that’s unfair or unequal and that the gods should be killed because of it is akin to saying it’s unfair a mountain is bigger than you and demanding it be levelled, except the gods, unlike mountains, are living, feeling beings who shouldn’t have to die because some people can’t stand the idea of not always being top dog. Thing is, the gods themselves ultimately understood this power imballance and that they can't help but hurt Exandria the way humans can't help but step on bugs, and thus removed themselves from the equation by creating the divine gate. Saying this isn’t enough and that they're clinging to power is just demanding they line themselves up to be killed.
#critical role#cr3#downfall#nella talks cr#ultimately all these 'ruling class' comparisons are simply flawed and don’t work when under the slightest bit of scrutiny#gods arent rulers or tyrants bc they don’t rule and can't be deposed#they are representantations and guardians of (mostly natural) concepts#and those concepts won’t go away bc you killed the gods. death and nature and the fucking sun will still remain#they aren’t colonizers of mortals (wtf lmao) who demand they be worshiped and mortals live according to their oppressive rule#again did you watch calamity? not even before the divine gate did the gods demand worship or even respect#they were never less respected than during the age of arcanum and still they were just chilling#(until someone released the betrayers and they had to step in to stop the ultimate destruction of exandria)#technically you could argue they were colonizers against the titans but even that feels like a stretch#the titans to me feel less like people and more like representations of the chaotic and deathly side of nature#being angry they were killed sounds like being angry someone stopped a hurricane just bc the hurricane was there first#I'm sorry but that hurricane would've flattened you. it wouldn’t appreciate your support bc it isn't a person#and 'a higher social class' fucking NEW MONEY? this is just blatant projection#I'm sorry but not everything more powerful than you is a stand in for oppression#sometimes it’s a narrative stand in for nature and i promise nature isn't oppressing you

I'm not actually crying, but there is a kind of melancholy about it. Again, I've known this was the most likely outcome for ages - it just doesn't feel any better when the shoe finally drops, you know?
Mass Effect was my first incursion into BioWare - and I still have friends now that I met in those days! But ME3 killed that franchise dead for me. I don't really care what's going to happen to it now, and I honestly doubt ME5 will see the light of day.
But Dragon Age... god. I can't even fathom how many of you found me through the Ask Cullen blog, or when I regularly posted about PANINIIII, or had me writing banters, or drawing dumb memes on /dag/.
Sheryl's right - it doesn't really die so long as we keep our own momentum going. They can't take the ideas from us.
But fuck if it's not tragic that this was its final curtain call.
Anyway. Love y'all. Tell me where Mary and Sylvia end up so I can follow their next projects like the excitable nerd I am

For you. And Harding. And everyone we've lost.
*sob sob sob sob sob* it's fine I'm fine I just have to I just need a moment and then I'll be -- *sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob*
rye 'I want varric back you son of a bitch' ingellvar showing up to the narrative stricken to the core with grief and digging two graves. one for the dread wolf. and another one also for the dread wolf because by the time rye is done with him that fucker is hopefully going to be in several pieces. lucanis hold my shovel for a moment would you I need to commit some acts of grim violence and deep poetic irony (*supportive lucanis voice as rook grabs the fake dagger* go get him rook I've got your shovel). solas I'm sorry I love you but if you were going to pull that shit you probably should have done it to someone a little less like, well. you

The more I listen to reviews and go over Veilguard and finished my second playthrough, the more I dislike it. It's not a 'roleplaying' game. I don't get to play any role - I just get railroaded into one. I miss being able to go up and start a conversation. Or play to set up my origin before being dropped in. I like romance to be present and build, not just only happen in the last minute. I need a game that also isn't hand holding me the entire time - and this example is a nitpick but after EVERYTHING throughout the entire game and every fightscene, getting a pop up about how enemy armor works in the middle of the last fight of the game on my second playthrough - I wanted to throw my controller. And stop being peppy about everything if people are supposed to be dying and the world is supposedly ending! It sure doesn't feel like it! How is blood magic and slavery not touched on at all in the blood magic and slavery city! Also let my character mourn damn it! It's not a roleplaying game, I miss Origin, and I've deleted it off my console to keep space free. At least with getting ME1-3 on sale I can replay something with dialogue. Even Mass Effect 3, and that's saying something coming from me.

when tommy was talking about people from his pov that treated him badly that he used to be friends with and how he empathized with them for a long time, jack said it was about a lot of people not just dream which makes me think it was about wilbur as well and in that song tommy made theres lots of text on it and one of the text was "i cant watch my old videos anymore because all the people in them were not the people I thought they were" as well as messages about dependency. but just because tommys going through a lot doesn't mean he can treat dream horribly or blame what wilbur did to him onto dream. Same goes with tommy saying that he only made digs at dream to cope with his stress from dream as in "you can either laugh or cry." which is.... As for other mentors, Iirc logan paul was one at some point?, his mom he gets a lot of advice from and philza, schlatt. Other mentors maybe mr beast at a point, george, maybe everyone that has ever given him advice was a mentor to him
I’ll disagree with you that everyone who gives advice is a mentor. I don’t think that’s how mentors work. In my opinion, a mentor is not just someone who gives you advice but someone who helps you with your future but also has a deep relationship with you. A mentor is almost like someone who isn’t your parent, but has a parentish dynamic with you. Anyone can give someone advice but a mentor is someone who is supportive and helpful along with advice. If that makes sense. Wilbur is probably the main culprit here, Schlatt I think is more so his idol but perhaps falls under “people who were not who I thought they were” I think perhaps Logan Paul was an idol too, but I do side with Dream here that Logan Paul has been known to be problematic for a long time even before Tommy interacted with him so did Tommy really have a better perception of him? Not sure about Mr Beast I don’t think they interacted much, but I could be wrong. Generally, I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have so many videos with your mentor who died from cancel and your other mentor who was outed to be physically abusive. That has to be really hard, and maybe Tommy’s brain has categorized Dream as a mentor therefore - as dead to him/a bad guy. Because it’s easier to put everyone in the same box even when it doesn’t fit. Maybe too he’s trying to distance himself from the dsmp because of how painful it is and Dream is just an active reminder. Not that any of that justifies his behavior, talk about who needs to go to therapy. The fact that he felt like he had to stay with Dream and make digs to laugh instead of cry instead of just not being his friend, I think still highlights that behavior of using Dream for clout. Even if at the end of the day Dream did hurt Tommy it a) doesn’t excuse the shit he’s pulled and b) highlights even further his disingenuous Tommy is to only put up with Dream for the clout.

hey emma! do u mind expanding on mitch’s utilisation this post season and how theyre not maximising him at what hes best at so he can contribute elsewhere where the team is lacking like you mentioned in your post? fairly new to hockey so im a bit behind :( thank you!!
i'm not an expert on this but lfksdj i can rant. jonas siegel dropped an article today about mitch's playoff impacts, so i'll drop some screenshots you can read here if you don't have an athletic sub.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and there is also this video from yesterday that essentially breaks down the way mitch adjusts his game to the playoffs vs the regular season and the way mitch adjusts to play more conservatively (which, despite the 'best playoff performer' narrative, still makes him better than most players on our team. by not a small amount lol)
but mitch has been put on the second line this postseason to essentially shut down the bruins biggest offensive threat in david pastrnak and they've done that extremely effectively. his line has taken a vast majority of their shifts starting in their own dzone, meaning they aren't immediately set up for success bc they have to win the puck back away from david & co and are tasked with making their way back down to their own ozone and trying to make an offensive impact that way .. which has allowed auston's line to already start their shifts set up in their ozone 80% of the time apparently. in that way, i don't think the first line's been very effective bc they're sitting at a net neutral rn despite scoring 'the most' goals for us.. meaning they're getting scored on as much as they're scoring, lol. (auston himself is actually at a +2 but bert and domi are getting caught out and prayed on so they're at 0 +/- wise lol)
leafs have a real problem creating offense in the post season, and instead of being able to load up and let mitch do the elite playmaking he can do by being a little LESS defensively responsible and more quick w his hands and thinking on his feet on the rush, they've been forced to play mitch in a more defensive position bc other forwards can't take that spot on the second line and effectively shut pasta/bruins down. essentially, mitch doesn't get room to do what he's best at (help draw attention and make room for the best shooters on this team and then pass to them) bc he has to worry abt making the smart and safe plays to keep the puck away from the bruins scary offensive threats and it's making him look like he's been neutralized... when REALLY.. he's being used in a position that is not favorable to the best offensive parts of his game but rather relied upon for his ability to be responsible. even if he WERE putting up points with auston, people would say they don't matter since they're not at Clutch moments so lol. this team is just built weirdly and domi and bertuzzi are liabilities defensively so they've been put with our most responsible forward on the top, but so far they're not making a huge difference. it is what it is, and willy coming back will certainly help with some off the rush offense probably, but willy is also a defensive liability but he's being played with holmberg and calle who are both way more solid in that way.... luckily the bruins 3rd line isn't as dangerous as the top 2 so maybe he and the swedes will be able to feast on them 🤞🤞🤞
we will see what game 4 holds tonight... i think this team could be so much better with some actual upgrades on d, but we will have to SEE what treliving does this summer. it is very annoying to watch magical mitch marner with real creative vision have to take on a more under appreciated role as a defensive bedrock of this team, but idk what i expected considering we were LITERALLY playing him as a defenseman this season, lol. i have way more fun watching him play globetrotter and put up points but he is basically an elite jack of all trades. siegel's article talks abt the key to that line's offense being him shooting more, so we'll see if that's something he personally incorporates, but a lot of the critique of him this year in the postseason has been so unfair in comparison to the position he's being put in.
