The fandom god discussion is interesting, but I feel itā€™s sometimes hindered by an unwillingness to separate gods from mortal society, or even a sort of over-eagerness to project our own reality onto them, which simply doesnā€™t work. I've seen the gods referred to as rulers or tyrants demanding worship (which I kinda understand because itā€™s something Ludinus says in-game, though itā€™s funny to see fandom corners confidently repeat the inaccurate talking points of the antagonist) but more interestingly I've also seen them referred to as a higher/the highest social class, as colonizers imposing themselves on mortals, the raven queen specifically as new money. Overall these comparisons tend to talk about the gods and their actions regarding Aeor in the past and predathos/the Vanguard in the present less as if they're about saving their own lives and more as if they want to preserve their powerful position.
The gods, by their very nature, are above mortals. They cannot be compared to any mortal ruling class because they didnā€™t choose or strive for that power and cannot feasibly get rid of it/step down/redistribute it (nor do they actually in any sense rule; killing the raven queen, unlike killing an actual queen, will not end the 'tyranny' of death), they simply have it by virtue of being gods. Saying thatā€™s unfair or unequal and that the gods should be killed because of it is akin to saying itā€™s unfair a mountain is bigger than you and demanding it be levelled, except the gods, unlike mountains, are living, feeling beings who shouldnā€™t have to die because some people canā€™t stand the idea of not always being top dog. Thing is, the gods themselves ultimately understood this power imballance and that they can't help but hurt Exandria the way humans can't help but step on bugs, and thus removed themselves from the equation by creating the divine gate. Saying this isnā€™t enough and that they're clinging to power is just demanding they line themselves up to be killed.
#critical role#cr3#downfall#nella talks cr#ultimately all these 'ruling class' comparisons are simply flawed and donā€™t work when under the slightest bit of scrutiny#gods arent rulers or tyrants bc they donā€™t rule and can't be deposed#they are representantations and guardians of (mostly natural) concepts#and those concepts wonā€™t go away bc you killed the gods. death and nature and the fucking sun will still remain#they arenā€™t colonizers of mortals (wtf lmao) who demand they be worshiped and mortals live according to their oppressive rule#again did you watch calamity? not even before the divine gate did the gods demand worship or even respect#they were never less respected than during the age of arcanum and still they were just chilling#(until someone released the betrayers and they had to step in to stop the ultimate destruction of exandria)#technically you could argue they were colonizers against the titans but even that feels like a stretch#the titans to me feel less like people and more like representations of the chaotic and deathly side of nature#being angry they were killed sounds like being angry someone stopped a hurricane just bc the hurricane was there first#I'm sorry but that hurricane would've flattened you. it wouldnā€™t appreciate your support bc it isn't a person#and 'a higher social class' fucking NEW MONEY? this is just blatant projection#I'm sorry but not everything more powerful than you is a stand in for oppression#sometimes itā€™s a narrative stand in for nature and i promise nature isn't oppressing you

hey emma! do u mind expanding on mitchā€™s utilisation this post season and how theyre not maximising him at what hes best at so he can contribute elsewhere where the team is lacking like you mentioned in your post? fairly new to hockey so im a bit behind :( thank you!!
i'm not an expert on this but lfksdj i can rant. jonas siegel dropped an article today about mitch's playoff impacts, so i'll drop some screenshots you can read here if you don't have an athletic sub.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and there is also this video from yesterday that essentially breaks down the way mitch adjusts his game to the playoffs vs the regular season and the way mitch adjusts to play more conservatively (which, despite the 'best playoff performer' narrative, still makes him better than most players on our team. by not a small amount lol)
but mitch has been put on the second line this postseason to essentially shut down the bruins biggest offensive threat in david pastrnak and they've done that extremely effectively. his line has taken a vast majority of their shifts starting in their own dzone, meaning they aren't immediately set up for success bc they have to win the puck back away from david & co and are tasked with making their way back down to their own ozone and trying to make an offensive impact that way .. which has allowed auston's line to already start their shifts set up in their ozone 80% of the time apparently. in that way, i don't think the first line's been very effective bc they're sitting at a net neutral rn despite scoring 'the most' goals for us.. meaning they're getting scored on as much as they're scoring, lol. (auston himself is actually at a +2 but bert and domi are getting caught out and prayed on so they're at 0 +/- wise lol)
leafs have a real problem creating offense in the post season, and instead of being able to load up and let mitch do the elite playmaking he can do by being a little LESS defensively responsible and more quick w his hands and thinking on his feet on the rush, they've been forced to play mitch in a more defensive position bc other forwards can't take that spot on the second line and effectively shut pasta/bruins down. essentially, mitch doesn't get room to do what he's best at (help draw attention and make room for the best shooters on this team and then pass to them) bc he has to worry abt making the smart and safe plays to keep the puck away from the bruins scary offensive threats and it's making him look like he's been neutralized... when REALLY.. he's being used in a position that is not favorable to the best offensive parts of his game but rather relied upon for his ability to be responsible. even if he WERE putting up points with auston, people would say they don't matter since they're not at Clutch moments so lol. this team is just built weirdly and domi and bertuzzi are liabilities defensively so they've been put with our most responsible forward on the top, but so far they're not making a huge difference. it is what it is, and willy coming back will certainly help with some off the rush offense probably, but willy is also a defensive liability but he's being played with holmberg and calle who are both way more solid in that way.... luckily the bruins 3rd line isn't as dangerous as the top 2 so maybe he and the swedes will be able to feast on them šŸ¤žšŸ¤žšŸ¤ž
we will see what game 4 holds tonight... i think this team could be so much better with some actual upgrades on d, but we will have to SEE what treliving does this summer. it is very annoying to watch magical mitch marner with real creative vision have to take on a more under appreciated role as a defensive bedrock of this team, but idk what i expected considering we were LITERALLY playing him as a defenseman this season, lol. i have way more fun watching him play globetrotter and put up points but he is basically an elite jack of all trades. siegel's article talks abt the key to that line's offense being him shooting more, so we'll see if that's something he personally incorporates, but a lot of the critique of him this year in the postseason has been so unfair in comparison to the position he's being put in.

EXCUSE THE BAD ART BECAUSE ITS WHAT I GOT šŸ”«šŸ”«šŸ”«
Yang and Qrow co-parenting Bby Ruby as tai goes through his whole family mandated mental breakdown fills my every waking thought
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Qrow is single handedly handling all of ozpins secret missions now so all of remnant is on his shoulders, that combined with all the death and general tragedy in his family thereā€™s no way the second he gets a moment of peace with his nieces he doesnā€™t pass the fuck out
Yang is just doing her best as qrow is usually busy saving all of remnant for months at a time to be home
(Additional hc because theyā€™re living of of assumably two teachers salaries, Ruby and Yang wear a lot of school merch they get for free, cause buying new clothes is expensive and a hassle Qrow doesnā€™t really have the time for, and Yang canā€™t reach the counters)

"I hate stories unkilling characters and have been firm on never doing it in my own sci fi series" do you mean that you're writing a sci-fi series other than your fic? If so, I'd love to know more about it! You're an incredible writer.
Yes and no and yes and no. I have two major projects I've taken as far as multiple drafts of novels. But whether either one counts as sci fi... Hm.
Project 1 is probably more fantasy ā€” I always describe it as Chronicles of Narnia by way of Stephen King's It. It definitely has sci fi elements in that it's more interested in commenting on the contemporary U.S. than on the fantasy world ā€”Ā one character flees the U.S. for OtherWorld, one character flees OtherWorld for the U.S., one character only goes to OtherWorld so he can earn a place in U.S. society, and one character only leaves the U.S. so she can earn a place in OtherWorld. It also has that sci fi sensibility of wanting to know how things work, why different societies are different for good and bad reasons. That said, it's also a portal fantasy about characters using magic to travel between universes, so... marginal.
Project 2 is more like X-Men, in that it's more concerned with how teenagers would (mis)use the ability to shoot lasers than how the lasers work. It's largely about forming an identity and fighting real estate developers on behalf of one's family co-op, so urban fantasy if it's fantasy or low sci fi if it's sci fi. The relative sci-fi-ness of the universe is literally a minor point of contention between two characters (one's a science tutor who believes in experimenting with the chaos energy to understand it better; one's a devout believer who has Seen Some Shit and knows better than to futz around with these things) and I deliberately never resolve it. The superpower stuff is important and fun and influences the characters a lot, but unlike X-Men it's not a magic-school story and doesn't want to be.
Sorry that's kind of a non-answer. But I think stressing too hard over how a book will be marketed while you're still drafting it is like buying wallpaper for a house you haven't built, and that genres are just made-up marketing categories anyway.
