TN: I translated this at 1 am while my friends forcibly tuck me into bed. This was made with love, spite, and a little bit of sleep paralysis. Please read my notes at the end, I had to read a newspaper to figure that out. Live, laugh, love, mona.

*This is a quote by Japanese baseball player Ohtani Shohei. The context of this quote was that Ohtani's team was facing Paul Goldschmidt, Mike Trout, and Mookie Betts on the field that day, all of whom are well-known baseball players admired by many. The rest of the quote goes: “If we keep admiring them, we'll never be able to surpass them. We came here today to succeed, to be the best. So, just for today, let's put our admiration aside, and focus on winning.” You can make the rest of the connection.

** This also applies to all other instances but makeinu also translates to an expression for a loser. She's calling herself a loser here. It didn't sit right with the context of the MV so I preferred the translation “underdog”.

*** This can also mean to bear with unpleasant circumstances.
