Crazy how supernatural ā€œendedā€ with the Winchesters celebrating, deciding what theyā€™ll do next and think about how it could be anything, and then driving away from the camera so we will never know or find out because theyā€™re independent and have earned their freedom from the audience and story tellers, thus escaping us, the narrative, and Chuckā€™s storyā€¦
ā€¦ And then they decided to make just one more episode where they dragged them back in to the story after an undisclosed amount of years for a very cheap ending where Chuck gets everything he wants, and weā€™re supposed to believe that he genuinely lost and that was the good and correct ending? Nah nah nah. Chuck put them RIGHT back in the spotlight just to make us watch them die and split up for decades. I accept nothing else.

I know this can spark a debate but I sort of think that Chuck was very justified. I never thought of him as a villain at all. I actually pitied him.
Okay okay, hear me out!
I know that he might have been portrayed as controlling and stuff. BUT, he was an author! Just imagine, as an author, the characters suddenly start to do their own shit...wouldn't that piss you off?! You want to kill them so badly but they just never die! You are their master! You created them! You are the one in control!
And you can argue that Chuck was playing with reality and that he was God. But then...he was freaking GOD. For him humans were just something to add to the plot that HE created.
Just imagine, what if whatever we write is also a reality? What if we, too are gods of our own making when we write stories?
Just...I feel like Chuck was very much valid. That's all. And as a fellow writer he has my condolences.

When Amara said ā€œI can see inside your heart. Feel the love you feel. Except, itā€™s cloaked in shame.ā€ And later we find out Dean was never in love with herā€¦yeah so what does that mean exactly

the fact that eric kripke isn't even christian really adds something to the way christianity is depicted on supernatural. because its really not about being christian at all, but about living in america, a country dominated by christianity, and having to decide for yourself how to handle that. faith is huge in supernatural, and the mythology of the show is very bible-centric, but notably, christ is never there. even sam, who starts out revering the angels, who once said he prays every night, doesn't actually call himself a christian or imply that he believes in jesus--the show is steeped in christianity and biblical lore and yet neither sam nor dean are christians. in fact, over and over again the church itself is depicted as a haunted house that sam and dean will only ever enter as strangers, as outsiders. priests, preachers, faith healers, chapels, crypts, etc. are all just iconography that create an intense sense of unease that sam and dean respond to instantly. as a jew, its very relatable. an essential part of living in america when you're not christian is that exact sense of unease, of knowing that the culture of your country has ensured that you'll get knocked over by christianity no matter where you go, that you'll see hundreds of people truly believing they're good people while doing awful things in the name of their god, and you have no choice but to confront that. kripke gets it

god. an autobiography.
in the beginning, there was me.
iā€™ll write a better analysis on this after the end of season 11 so i can gather my thoughts. overall, i donā€™t see any better way the writers couldā€™ve introduced god chuck.
i will say iā€™m pretty upset that the podcast wonā€™t touch on this episode until, oh, roughly 2027, but beggars canā€™t be choosers.

Thinking about how Dean Winchester was an atheist before he got caught up in the biblical apocalypse because in his mind, the two possible realities were an absent God and a cruel one. Thinking about him learning God was real and he had a Plan for him. Thinking about how that robbed him of his faith that a God wouldn't be capable of such cruelty. Thinking about how quickly he came to put his faith in Cas, despite his distrust of the divine. Thinking about The Man Who Would Be King. Thinking about Dean's only on-screen prayer to God being a plea to "bring him back."
