bro is inquisitive
#thinking of the possibilities of how it could be worse it's funny how you start to get addicted to thinking like a danmei writer#you are like anddd what if this person was (insert a guy who coughed once in chapter 15) anyways#i managed to not get many spoilers bc i hate it but i have always suspected that shi mei had a thing for cwn firstly bc i once saw a ship#tag and was like ?? well that is not uncommon as people ship shrek with chanyeol (im people) but secondly after that scene where mo ran#pinky interrogated him i was sooo 100% sure of it. but then there was nothing much so i let it go. the one mini spoiler i saw was#the enemy on pinterest who replied to a pic of a character saying it was shi mei/other name (didn't look at it) so it was why i knew#he was classically someone else. but even without that his ass was raising suspicion just for the way how blank he was#and i knew it was intentional so i kept thinking who he could be and my guess was xu shuanglin (rest in pieces poor guy)#bc i thought that both of them had the same spiritual essence or something. also the guy in the motel at the beginning who also had water#essense could only be either of them. but this is not the point bc then i was thinking that shi mei was simultaneously mo nian#bc why would he have the reason to be annoyed with mo ran to that extent. and also bc i knew there was a fire and hua binance has face burn#but mo ran chopped his head off bless his souls and good for him so how else can that be worse#he could also be that child of nangong yan who had his mother die bc of mo ran and mom he would also have a reason to try and compare#himself to mo ran in every way and hate him but why would he need to store nangong blood for mount jiao is he is nangong himself#but that would be great for disgusting points bc he would be mo ran's half brother doing all that ??#im just taking a break from throwing up bc of his ass trying to assault cwn every chance he gets and idk anything yet#so it would be interesting to keep guessing his motives as i do not get it yet but also (procceed to throw up)#also his interactions with corpse taxian ?? god tier. taxian is in the middle of diss battle drops his mic after every sentence#the crowd (me) cheers. moving on but i really enjoy insane plot twists i wish i remembered well what i was thinking while reading tgcf#the widely known thing is that i didn't even consider that fu yao and nan feng were fengqing it's my favorite thing bc i wholeheartedly#believed the little guys just loved their generals way too much#00

how to disappear. (opla!zoro x fem!reader)
synopsis: joining luffyâs crew made you believe that youâd finally escaped your former pirate crew and nightmare of a captain for good. that is, until a certain butler starts looking a little too familiar. good thing zoroâs keeping a close eye on you.
warnings: opla spoilers (ep 3), some direct dialogue from opla, mentions of verbal/physical abuse, kuro is just a weirdo tbh, reader is called a bitch, protective zoro, for the sake of the story sham and buchie joined the black cat pirates after reader left
word count: 4.7k
âthis guy is full of shit.â
you knock your shoulder into zoroâs wider one. âbe nice. and so what if he is?âÂ
zoro gives you a pointed glare. âthen we should turn around and look for someone who can actually help us find a ship.âÂ
âall business, as per usual,â you reply, with a purposefully dramatic sigh. âwhy canât you have a little fun?âÂ
âwhat about this is supposed to be fun?â zoro spits out the word like itâs poisonous. âthis is the blandest village iâve ever seen.â
you scoff. ânow youâre the one thatâs full of shit. nothingâs ever bland with us and you know it.âÂ
the us in question was your newly formed pirate crew⊠if you and luffy could even be considered that. having left the ship youâd been on a few years ago, you were in search of a new crew. luffy was persistent and charming â when youâd crossed paths in shells town, it took little to no time for him to convince you to join his hunt for the one piece. zoro and nami, on the other hand, had yet to follow in your footsteps.Â
âwell, considering that weâve only been traveling together for a day and a half and iâve already escaped a marine base, defeated a marine captain, and fought a clown with devil fruit powers⊠iâd actually have to agree.âÂ
you canât help but giggle at his sarcastic delivery. âbe grateful, zoro. not many pirate crews are this fun to be on, trust me. oh wait, thatâs right, you still havenât officially joinedââ
âtell me about your old pirate crew,â interjects zoro, your comment having piqued his interest.Â
you notice that the playful atmosphere dissipates. âgod, where do i even start?âÂ
zoro answers that for you. âwhy did you leave?â
âstarting with the hard hitting questions, huh?â you joke, mostly to stall. you clear your throat before you answer. âwell, it was different. nothing like what luffy has going on. he actually cares about his crew⊠and even those who arenât technically on it.âÂ
at that, a smile tugs at the corner of zoroâs lips. even you crack a small grin. although as you continue speaking, it fades.Â
âon my old crew, we were dispensable. anytime something went wrong, our own captain would threaten to kill us. it was⊠scary, to be completely honest. there were so many times when i thought iâd die with that filthy crew. and i never wanted that. so as soon as we docked at shells town, i left.â Â
zoroâs jaw clenches as imagines the things youâd seen and been subjected to. âthis old captain of yours sounds like a realââ
âhe was a nightmare,â you tell him. âhe didnât care that i was the only woman on board, he treated me just as horribly, if not worse.âÂ
zoro stops so suddenly that it takes you a second to realize heâs not walking alongside you.
âwhat do you mean by that.â the way zoro phrases the inquiry doesnât even make it sound like a question. more like a demand. his narrowed eyes are fixed solely on you. holding his gaze feels⊠intense.Â
you canât help but glance away as you answer him. âhe was just a bit of a creep.â
before zoro has the chance to try and extract more information out of you, a familiar voice calls both your names. youâre not really sure when you and zoro had fallen behind but from where you currently stand, the rest of your group looks miniature. or perhaps itâs just the massive size of the mansion behind them that makes luffy, nami, and usopp look pocket-sized in comparison.Â
âwhyâd you stop walking?!â your captain shouts, hands pressed on each side of his mouth to amplify his voice. âget over here, weâre about to go in through the top secret entrance!âÂ
you vaguely make out usopp gesturing for luffy to keep his voice down. youâre sure that would warrant another comment from zoro about his reliability but heâs too busy staring at you with that expectant look in his eyes.Â
âwe better catch up,â you tell him, heading in the direction of the deluxe home.Â
he allows you to dodge the subject and sighs, walking in long strides to catch up to you. Â
âiâve never seen a house this big before,â luffy admits, admiring the mansion along with the wellkept greenery surrounding it.Â
âawesome, right?â usopp gloats, walking around like he owned the place. âkayaâs given me an open invitation to drop by anytime i want.âÂ
âwow.â youâre not sure if luffy was just going along with usoppâs act or if he really believed him. knowing the devil fruit user, it was more than likely the latter. âall this for just one person?â
âwell, she lives here with her butler and a few other staff,â usopp replies, leaning against the stone well that sat in the middle of the lawn.
âmoney really shows you who people truly are,â nami mutters, eyes scanning the property. âmost people only care about themselves and whatâs theirs.â
zoro is quick to throw the insult back at her. âsounds like someone i know.â
you roll your eyes at his comment, though you make no effort to disagree with him. nami was a little on the materialistic side.Â
âand a small staff makes for easy pickings,â she continues, proving your point.
âwe just got here and youâre already planning on robbing the place blind?â you ask though you already know the answer.
âat least a little blurry,â she smirks, following behind luffy and usopp who walk toward the entrance.Â
you and zoro share a look. one that says disappointed but not surprised.Â
going under a shrub shaped as an arch, youâre met with a beautiful pond. you admire the pink lilies that float at the top and the bushes that were intricately trimmed into the shape of various animals. even if the people that lived here were filthy rich, at least they had good decorative taste.Â
âso if you have an invitation, why are we going around the back way?â luffy ponders.
usoppâs answer is nonchalant. âoh, i never use the front entrance. like i said, this is the vip entrance reserved for special guests.â
zoro scoffs. âthis guyâs definitelyââ
âdonât start,â you groan, cutting him off.Â
abruptly, usopp freezes and spins around, attempting to usher your crew back. âyou know what, thereâs actually a more exclusive entrance this wayââ
the sharp swoosh of a knife cutting through the air and burying itself in the ground between usoppâs feet cuts him off. from the direction the kitchen utensil was thrown stands a heavyset gentleman with his face wrinkled in anger. his demanding voice booms through the garden, âthe hell are you doing here, usopp?âÂ
the dark-skinned boy fumbles over his word. âbuchi, buddy, uh, kayaâs expecting me.â
âanother one of your lies,â the man â seemingly named buchi â seethes, grabbing him by the collar. âyou ainât welcome here and you know it.â
âi know nothing of the sort,â usopp retorts, keeping his cool even when he was practically being lifted off the ground by his shirt. âiâm here to give kaya an extra special gift.â
before buchi can get another word out, a feminine voice calls out for your companion. coming down the steps is a frail looking girl in a pink dress. on her arm is a man dressed in a crisp suit, presumably the butler usopp had mentioned earlier. though, from where you stand you canât see either of their faces too clearly.Â
âwhat a wonderful surprise,â she exclaims, breathlessly.Â
âkaya!â usopp exclaims, returning her enthusiasm. buchi has no choice but to let him go, begrudgingly. usopp makes sure to shoot him a smug look before walking towards the young girl. âhappy birthday.âÂ
the butler clears his throat, not afraid to intrude on their special moment. âusopp, weâve discussed this before. you mustnât show up unannounced.âÂ
ânonsense, klahadore.â kaya smiles warmly. âhave you come to tell me another story? i do love hearing about your adventures.âÂ
âiâll do you one better,â usopp smirks with such confidence that even youâre left wondering what kind of surprise he has up his sleeve. âi brought some of my crew!â he gestures back towards the four of you, proudly.Â
your excitement vanishes. âoh. the surprise is⊠us.â
âwell, thatâs boring,â luffy agrees, just as disappointed as you are.Â
kaya, on the other hand, is none the wiser. âitâs so nice to meet you. you must all stay for dinner.âÂ
klahadore lowers his voice. âmiss kaya, it is a bit last minute. iâm afraid the kitchen hasnât prepared for any extra guests.â
âplease,â begs kaya, softly. âitâs my birthday. canât be too much trouble can it?âÂ
giving in, klahadore purses his lips. âanything for you, miss kaya.âÂ
luffy claps his hands together. âalright! when do we eat?âÂ
âyou donât. not dressed like that, at least.â the butler directs himself to a staff member with teal colored hair. âsham, kindly show usopp and his friends to the guest suites. you will bathe and change before dinner.â
she follows his orders and leads the way. luffy, usopp, nami, and zoro trail behind her and you go to do the same. however, all it takes is a quick glance to stop you dead in your tracks. usually, you werenât one to stare but klahadoreâs face. that stare. so dark and depraved.Â
âyes, miss?â he asks, holding your gaze. âcan i help you?âÂ
ân-no, iâŠâ your throat goes dry as you attempt to recover smoothly. âi just wanted to, um, thank you for being so hospitable.âÂ
his lips curve upwards into a sinister grin. âthe pleasureâs all mine.â as if to confirm your worst fear, klahadore uses his palm to readjust his glasses. his beady eyes gauge your reaction closely.
the familiar gesture sends chills down your spine. appearance-wise, he had changed drastically but his aura was still just as menacing as you remember it. he was still the corrupt pirate captain you used to serve under. you feel like a weak and helpless subordinate all over again.
âklahadore!â giggles kaya. âyouâre smiling! thatâs certainly a rarity.â
he hums. âiâve simply come to the realization that having guests once in a while can truly be a delight.â
his sickeningly sweet tone makes your stomach turn. just the fact that you were standing in front of him â captain kuro â again after all these years was nauseating in itself. last youâd heard he had died at the hands of captain morgan. how was this even possible? then again, he wasnât dubbed kuro of a hundred plans for no reason. he always had a trick or two up his sleeve. you assumed this was no different.Â
âhey, you cominâ?â
you turn around to see zoro waiting for you. he meets your gaze for a moment. the softness of his eyes is a stark contrast to kuroâs. itâs a breath of fresh air. he then shifts his attention to your former captain and you swear his eyes darken.Â
âyeah, sorry,â you mumble, trying not to look shaken as you walk up the steps.Â
zoro follows behind you, this time closer than before.
âwhy would anybody even need this many clothes?â
âitâs not about need with these people, luffy. itâs about want,â nami spits, thumbing through the various fabrics on the wall.Â
âat least sheâs rich and nice,â luffy replies, innocently.
nami rolls her eyes. âyeah, letting us stay for dinner must be her idea of charity work.âÂ
âwhat are we even supposed to wear?â luffy continues, uninterested in namiâs criticism of the rich.Â
âanything you want. when are you ever going to get the opportunity to wear things this nice?âÂ
you step out from behind the changing board where youâd swapped out your old tee and cargo skirt for an elegant satin dress. it was a stunning shade of olive green and frilly lace decorated the edges. not to mention, it hugged your curves in all the right ways.
namiâs eyes widen. âsee, sheâs got the right idea. you look amazing.âÂ
you smile, bashfully. âhonestly, i feel amazing.â
âyou look the same to me,â your captain shrugs.
nami shoots him a death glare but you intervene before she can scold him.
âway to keep me humble, luffy.â
âno problem!âÂ
at that exact moment, a freshly showered zoro arrives donning a silk robe. he eyes the multitude of garments that cover every inch of the room, not particularly impressed.Â
âthere you are. donât you think she looks nice?â nami asks him, gesturing towards you. she doesnât notice how you shrink under zoroâs gaze. neither does he, as his eyes take their time raking over you, from top to bottom.
he hums. âsuits you.â with that, he sets off towards a chair in the corner of the room. Â
âseriously?â sighs nami, exasperated. âare you two physically unable to give compliments or something?âÂ
âhey, doesnât that butler seem familiar to you guys?â zoro asks, promptly ignoring namiâs complaint.Â
his question causes your breath to hitch. youâd pushed the kuro problem to the back of your mind while you were in search of a suitable dinner outfit. you figured that as long as your crew was by your side, he wouldnât dare try anything. and even if he did⊠well, youâd seen what had happened to axe-hand morgan and buggy.Â
âyeah, i think he was at the last dinner party i attended,â nami replies sarcastically, taking a handful of dresses behind the changing board.Â
as he takes a seat, zoro grumbles, âi swear iâve seen him before.âÂ
âwhere?â you canât help but ask, fiddling with the lace on the neckline of your dress.Â
âso far, iâve got two suspicions. a wanted poster or funky bar on mirrorball island. you ever been?â
you know zoroâs teasing you, judging by the grin on his face. after all, funky bar was known to get insanely rowdy; never would he imagine finding someone as gentle as you there. but what he didnât know is that it happened to be one of kuroâs favorite bars. per his request, you and the rest of the black cat pirates frequented it often, so he was more than likely right about having seen kuro there. heâd probably even seen you in passing, once or twice. thankfully, he doesnât seem to have any recollection of that.
the thought of zoro knowing about your past forms a knot in the pit of your stomach. would he think less of you for having joined such a ruthless crew at one point in your life? what if it put a strain on the friendship youâd worked so hard to form?Â
âiâve, uh, heard of it,â you decide to reply, pushing down your worries for the time being.Â
he tilts his head slightly, thinking out loud. âthen again, i have seen a lot of wanted posters and bars in my time as a pirate hunter.â
you feel a grin creep onto your face. âprobably more bars than posters, huh?â
zoro mirrors your smile. âshut up.â
by the time dinner rolls around, the entire crew is doing what they do best.Â
luffy is stuffing his face, nami is attempting to swindle one of the staff, zoro is hanging by the drinks, and youâre hanging by zoro.Â
âhey zoro, you gotta try this!â luffy calls through a mouthful of food.
âiâve got all i need right here,â he mutters, taking a swig out of his champagne flute.Â
âyou know, i donât think iâve ever seen you choke down something that isnât alcohol,â you comment, watching the way he downs the glass in one go.Â
dryly, he replies, âthatâs because i havenât.â
âvery on brand.â
âladies and gentlemen,â calls out that voice from the top of the stairs. âmay i present⊠miss kaya.â
arm in arm, kuro and kaya walk down the steps, all eyes on the birthday girl and her stunning gown. well, except you. your eyes never leave the so-called butler by her side. your jaw clenches when he has the audacity to meet your gaze and hold it. shameless bastard.Â
once they reach the bottom, merry leads kaya to the guests while kuro takes his post at the bottom of the stairs⊠right next to the drink table. before you can think about steering yourself and zoro away, kuro speaks.
âforgive me if i am speaking out of line, madam, but i must inform you. you look positively radiant,â he purrs, soaking in your appearance. he looks ready to pounce.
you canât stop your eyes from rolling. good to know heâs the same pervert he used to be.
looking between you both and sensing your discomfort, zoro steps in. âand you look familiar.âÂ
kuroâs head stiffly turns to face him, eyes peeling away from you. âhighly doubtful, sir.âÂ
âfunky bar? mirror ball island?âÂ
âfunky bar?â kuro repeats, disgusted. âwell, i can assure you iâve never patronized that type of establishment.âÂ
while it was amusing to see your highly esteemed former captain lie through his teeth, the tension between him and zoro was unbearable.Â
âwell then.â zoro continues with his little interrogation. âever been on a wanted poster?â
you cringe at his bluntness. sometimes it seemed like he had less of a filter than luffy.
kuro puts on a scandalized face at the question. âsir! such an accusation is highly offensive.â tugging on his collar, he goes to remove himself from zoroâs probing. ânow, if youâll excuse me, iâm going to help prepare the dinner table.âÂ
he leaves, en route to the dining room. zoroâs eyes follow his figure until he disappears, squinting as he racks his brain for any further recollection of this suspicious butler.Â
you sigh. if zoro was going to continue being so relentless, you were sure the night would end in bloodshed and uncovered secrets.Â
âkeep this coming,â zoro demands, handing the empty wine bottle to sham. she takes it with a glare.Â
âwould it kill you to say please?â you ask, slicing the slab of fish on your plate into smaller pieces.
âthe service here is shitty. why should i have to be polite?âÂ
you scowl. âremind me to never have dinner with you again.â
zoro turns to you with that cocky grin of his. âwhat if i asked nicely?âÂ
his quip makes your heart flutter but you manage to keep your composure. âyou can try your luck.âÂ
before he can respond, usopp speaks up. âluffy, isnât there something that you wanted to talk to kaya about?âÂ
luffy gesticulates enthusiastically with his fork. âoh, yes! usopp told me that you own the whole shipyard.âÂ
âwell, actually, my parents founded the shipyard and merryâs been running the business since they⊠passed. but all thatâs about to change. tonight, at midnight, i will become the sole owner.â she smiles somberly.Â
âwell, thatâs great,â luffy says, raising his drink at her. âbecause we want to buy a ship from you.âÂ
âah, i see. usopp mentioned that youâre sailors.âÂ
ânope, not sailors. weâre pirates!â
youâre certain at least three people at the table choke on their food, yourself included.Â
âthis ought to be good,â zoro mumbles behind his glass.
youâre too busy coughing into your napkin to chastise him for finding this entertaining.
âpirates?â kaya repeats, unsure of how to react.Â
âyup! we havenât sailed together for very long but weâve already defeated an evil clown, raided a marine base, and taken down a captain with an axe! for a hand!â luffy holds up a fist, presumably to impersonate axe-hand morgan.
âsounds a lot like your adventures, usopp,â kaya says, turning to the brunette.
all he can do is laugh dryly. âyeah, thatâs⊠thatâs crazy.âÂ
âand weâre just getting started!â luffy continues, climbing up onto the table.
âsomeone put me out of my misery,â you mumble, looking down at your plate to ignore the secondhand embarrassment.
a tap on your shoulder answers your plea.
turning around, you find yourself face to face with kuro once again. âmadam, a word please?â
âmight i ask what for?â zoro cuts in before you can so much as think of a response.
kuro offers him the most forced grin youâve ever had the displeasure of seeing. âiâm afraid that is between the lady and i.â
the swordsman turns to you, scanning your face for any ounce of discomfort. âyou okay with that?â
you inhale, figuring it was finally time for you to confront the darkest part of your past. it was silly to assume you would be able to ignore him throughout your entire stay here. besides, you were sure zoro, just like the rest of your crew, would be on standby if kuro got brave enough to try anything. âsure. just⊠keep an eye out.â
zoro understands completely. truthfully, you didnât even need to ask â he always looked after you. âgot it.â
you push yourself out of your seat and smooth out your dress. you allow kuro to lead you to the doorway â he was smart enough to know that was the farthest youâd let him take you.Â
âwhat do you want, klahadore?â you seethe, folding your arms.
he arches a brow. âwhy must you call me that? itâs ridiculous.âÂ
you tilt your head with faux innocence. âoh? is that not your name? must have misheard.â
he gives you an irritated look, dark eyes drilling into you.
âi remember that look,â you mutter, your memory serving you well. âitâs the same one youâd give me before youâd threaten to slice me to bits with your claws.â
kuro has the audacity to chuckle dryly. âbut i never did, did i? although there were certainly times times where i shouldâve.â
âwhat you should be is dead,â you hiss bitterly. âwhen i heard the news, i knew it was too good to be true.â
âyou wound me, kitten,â he drawls, reaching up to fix his glasses.Â
the condescending nickname makes your skin crawl. it carried so many awful memories of your time spent with the black cat pirates. it reminded you of just how weak kuro viewed you â nothing but a helpless, pitiful kitten in his eyes. typical of the man that abused his authority and treated you with not a single ounce of respect.Â
he continues, putting on a sweet tone. âafter all these years, stuck waiting hand and foot on that spoiled brat, thereâs nothing iâd love more than to hear my favorite crew mate say my real name.â
you snap at him. âiâm no crew mate of yours.â
he sighs, dramatically. âsadly, youâre correct. after all, you did slip off the ship the moment we docked in shells town. locating you on an island crawling with marines proved to be nearly impossible. we had no choice but to leave without you.â
âthatâs exactly why i chose to escape there.âÂ
âand to this day i canât for the life of me figure out why you would ever do that. why would you want to leave us? leave me?â
you actually laugh right in his face. âis it really that hard to figure out? you were evil. you threatened and harassed me on a daily basis.â
âso your solution was to join that ragtag crew?â he glances at the table. âitâs pathetic, even for you.â
you lean into his face, lowering your voice down. âiâm happier than i ever was on your shitty crew. every day i wake up grateful that i managed to escape you.â
you see that vein on his forehead bulge before heâs gripping you by the chin. âlisten here, you little bitchââ
the shiny silver of a sword slides between you and kuro, coming to rest against his neck. his adamâs apple bobs as he gulps anxiously, releasing you. thanks to zoroâs sword, it seemed as if he finally remembered where he was. you were no longer on his ship, he was no longer allowed to treat you like the dirt he walked on. not without someone noticing, that is.Â
âwhy donât you step away?â zoro offers simply.
that much was a kindness. usually those who found themselves on the end of zoroâs blade(s) werenât lucky enough to receive a warning. however, the swordsman didnât wish to cause a scene. at least not when you were right there and everyone was watching with shock from the dinner table.
kuro obliges, stumbling back. he meets kayaâs horrified eyes, feeling ashamed that he allowed his act to slip. surely this would cause some setbacks in his plan. with no excuse for his uncharacteristic behavior, the raven haired man scurries away and up the stairs.
zoro turns and locks eyes with luffy, giving him one singular nod. luffy returns it, jumping out of his seat and going after the butler. quiet murmuring breaks out at the dinner table, everyone surely confused.Â
sheathing his sword, zoro directs his attention to you once more. âare you alright?â a calloused hand comes up to grip your chin, much like kuro had. however, this time, the touch is gentle. loving, almost. you welcome it.
âyeah, iâm⊠fine.â your heart is beating out of your chest and it has everything to do with your close proximity to zoro.
he tilts your face around, inspecting every inch of it. once he finishes, he pulls back. his demeanor goes serious once more. âwe need to have a talk.â
you nod. âi know. iâve been keeping some things from you guys andââ
âjust tell me whatâs been going on,â he demands. âand donât overcomplicate it. you can be straightforward with me.â
his sincerity makes you start over, this time far more candidly. âklahadore used to be a pirate. i was part of his crew. he was my⊠captain.â
the shame in your voice pulls at zoroâs heartstrings. didnât you know there was no reason to feel guilty with him? âis that it?âÂ
you open your mouth to speak but come up empty. all you can do is furrow your eyebrows at his unexpectedly dismissive reaction.
âi knew it,â zoro continues, annoyed. âi knew iâd seen him on a wanted poster before. just didnât have any proof.â
âwait, so you donâtâ you really donât care?â you ask, still avoiding eye contact. âme being a former black cat pirate doesnât bother you?â
he shrugs. âyou said it yourself. âformer.â all that matters is that you got the hell out of there. and away from that creep. would he always put his hands on you like that?â
you blink a couple times, sighing. âhis temper was really bad soââ
that seemed to be enough for zoro. âiâll kill the bastard,â he hisses. âwanted to slice him to bits the moment i saw him grab you.âÂ
though itâs a violent threat, you canât help but smile. the idea of zoro being so protective that heâd kill a man just for touching you made you blush. pirate love language, you suppose.
âwell, i wouldnât have stopped you,â you tell him, more than ready to see your former captain go.
zoro clicks his tongue. ânah. couldâve stained your new dress with his blood. i never would have been able to forgive myself.â
âso you do have a soft spot,â you tease.
âonly for pretty things.â
âdo you mean me or the dress?âÂ
now itâs zoroâs turn to become bashful. though, his lack of response is an answer in itself. you canât help but giggle.Â
a loud bang from upstairs interrupts your moment with the green-haired man. you assume luffy had gotten his hands on kuro⊠or vice versa. zoro must be thinking the same thing judging by the way he instinctively rests a hand on the handle of his blade.
âyou should go up there,â you tell him. âiâll stay with kaya.â Â
he gives you a nod, though he doesnât make any effort to leave. he stands there like he wants to say something⊠or do something. before you can think about it too much, you pull him in by the collar and crash your lips onto his. theyâre slightly chapped and taste like the wine thatâd come from the cellar â itâs pleasant. his large palms come to rest on your lower back; his hold feels tight and secure.Â
when you finally allow yourself to pull away, youâre biting back a smile. âkick his ass for me.âÂ
âwill i get more of that if i do?â asks zoro, wetting his lips. they now taste like the cherry lip gloss youâd borrowed from kaya. he takes a step forward, attempting to close the gap between you two once more.
you shrug, pushing him away by the chest. âgo help luffy and weâll see.â
you both know that means yes.

Lamb to the slaughter
Summary: Your husband, the Great General of the Roman Empire, wishes for you to perform your wife duties
Pairings: Dark! Marcus Acacius x Priness! Reader
Warnings: Non con, marital rape, arranged marriage, abusive and toxic dynamics, choking, riding, slight spanking, verbal abuse, forced breeding, breeding kink, I want to make this a series, reader is Geta and Caracalla's sister but there isn't any physical description, size kink, Acacius is just huge, reader is afab, legal age gap (Reader is in her 20s, Marcus is in her 40s)
"The people of Rome are hungry."
You bellowed at your brother, glaring at him amidst the climax of your fight. He wouldn't listen; Geta had been as stubborn as he was as a child. He stood before you, draped in fine silks and gold, infuriated that you had disturbed his feast to talk about these matters.
"The people of Rome wouldn't be hungry if we had enough land to import food from." He grunted at you. "Our main aim is to conquer these lands in order to have so, is that clear, my dear sister?"
You laughed at his excuses. "You greedy little bastard, you could have the entire world and still find something to blame for your poor governing."
He glared at you, fingers twisting madly as he stepped, slowly, towards you. The slap resonated through out the empty corridor, drowning the sounds of the party just at mere meters away. Before you could place your hand in your aching cheek, his ringed fingers covered your neck, quickly cutting the air.
"I believe I have granted you too many liberties, my dear sister." He whispered with trembling calmness. "I believe you forget that if you eat, it is because I feed you, if you breathe, it is because I allow you to, and if you speak...it is because I haven't cut off your tongue yet."
You attempted to remain stoic, but the lack of air brought tears to your eyes. He watched you, grinning slightly from your position, before he let go.
"I have decided your fate;" He smirked, decisively. "I am to find a man to marry you. That will tame you."
As you gasped for air, your eyes widened, fearing whichever man your brother may choose for you. And you were right to fear it.
Two days after the fight, you continued praying that your brother forgets the threat, as he most usually does; however, as General Marcus Acacius returned from Numidia, with ships filled with fresh slaves and land conquered, the gods have decided to frown upon you.
You watched as he was paraded into the main palace in dashing white robes, certainly a spectacle fit for a Hero. He reached the steps as people chanted his name, and went directly to talk with the Emperors, not sparing even a glance at you, sitting along with your brother's pet monkey, Dundus. You caught a whiff of his scent; eucalyptus, mint and leather.
You were busy observing your nails as a shadow casted itself upon you, and you glanced to see Geta and the General standing right in front of you. You had never seen Acacius so close, the battle scars smearing into his skin, the streaks of grey in his dark curls, and his piercing dark eyes as he observed you back.
"Do you think you can handle her, my General?" Caracalla questioned, perching on his shoulder. Your brows furrowed in confusion, before it all doomed on you.
"No!" you whispered, to no avail.
"If I can handle Barbarians from the other side of the sea, I think I can handle a spoiled princess." Acacius replied, his eyes wandered down the neckline of your dress, which he could see as he was towering before you. You couldn't do more than stare into those eyes as your brothers laughed, demonically.
After that evening, you had done everything in your power to postpone the wedding. Ditching tailoring appointments, sending back any flower arrangements proposed and avoiding Marcus Acacius at all costs. But you couldn't miss the games thrown in his honor.
His presence emanated an aura of masculinity and ferociousness as the Colosseum chanted his name; you smelled him before you saw him, eucalyptus, mint and leather. You were taken a back when he sat next to you, being too immersed in thought as Geta and Caracalla announced your matrimony.
You watched as a group of slaves was tossed into the arena; as they fought and as one of them was notoriously more skilled than the others; Hanno, he was called. You wished for a second that your brother had decided to marry you to one of them instead, perhaps they'd be more discreet about staring at you, unlike Acacius.
The wedding day came, a sunny morning with games planned to be celebrated in the afternoon as an honor. Acacius stood in the altar, clad in white like the day of his parade, and you couldn't help but wonder about how little you knew about him; not a single word had he crossed with you. His face was stern, not a single ghost of a smile on his face. The evening went by quickly, quicker than you expected, and soon enough you were in his Villa, the place were you would now reside.
You barely noticed the decor of his chambers, the paintings and sculptures, the soft wool cushions and the white and crimson sheets. He walked in confidently, as one walks into his room, and you stood, long white robes and golden embellishments, looking the most gorgeous you ever felt, but the fear was overwhelming.
What did he expect of you, certainly? you were well educated, but no one had ever explained you what actually happened in a wedding night. You had some idea, a naive concept, but as Acacius disrobed himself, any idea of what to do slipped your mind.
He was soon standing in all his naked glory, and your lips parted. His shoulders were broader than you have seen, a muscled stomach scarred with evidence of his battle experience, thick thighs, and a cock that slowly grew before your eyes.
"Why are you stilled clothed?" He inquired; the first words ever directed to you. As you stumbled with your words, he neared you dangerously. You felt the warmth emanate from his body as he unwrapped your dress from your body.
"Wait," you pleaded, tugging at the dress. "I have never been with a man."
He looked at you; and for the first time, he snickered.
"You think that will change anything?" He questioned, taking the silk from your hands; he ripped his way through the fabric until you were bare, only the gold on you. His hands, rough and calloused, palmed your stomach, smoothing the skin as if inspecting you. Tears welled up in your eyes.
His fingers smoothed over your nipples, making you squirm, he observed and then he pinched them, enticed as you let out a yelp. One hand trailed down your abdomen, pointer finger touching your skin until he reached your mound; tears now poured down your cheeks. His finger graced your slit, feeling sudden wetness you haven't anticipated. His scent, eucalyptus, mint and leather.
"Have you ever rode a horse?" He asked, intrigued. You nodded, brows furrowing in confusion. "It would be pretty much like that."
Before allowing you to respond, his hand wrapped around your forearm, pulling you behind him as he made your way to the bed. Any effort against it was futile, he would easily overpower you.
As he laid against the pillows, still gripping you, he nodded at his cock, now fully erect. You stared in awe, as even the veins on it looked huge; his tan skin melting into the red hot tip, weeping precum, standing proudly enough, you thought that if could tear you apart, reach your guts.
"Put it in." He demanded, because he couldn't just rape you like a barbarian, he had to force you to do it. You breathed, trying to recollect any previous knowledge as to how to do it. Impatiently, he grabbed a handful of your leg, forcing you to straddle him. His thighs were so wide, the stretch from your legs hurt.
You let out a breathe and grabbed it, careful of hurting him in fear of his anger. Angling his cock with your entrance, you attempted to push it in, only securing a searing pain. As more tears sprouted of your cheeks, Acacius spat on his hand and pushed yours away, pumping his cock with slick. His fingers then found your cunt, and his grip on your arm tightened. Wet with his saliva, he circled the spot that sent waves of pleasures towards your stomach. Wetness grew down there, and he slipped one of his thick fingers.
You gasped from the sudden intrusion, feeling as he pumped the digit, stretching you for him. Before you could feel pleasure building up, he had taken his hand and lined his cock. Your other hand fell to the middle of his chest, seeking support as he stretched you with his mushroom top. Every ridge and vein took its place inside of you, forcing your mouth agape. He fed your cunt slowly, inch by inch until you felt as full as you could possibly be. Your crying had seized as your body processed the new feeling, of being split open.
You felt him stop, nudging at a curve deep inside of you, and you felt a slight relief that it was over before his hands went to your hips, forcing you on the half his hand had preciously been wrapping around. Quick and rough, you doubled over, attempting to find a spot were it wouldn't press against you like it did. Acacius grunted in pleasure at how your walls fitted tightly around him.
"Was that so hard, foolish girl?"He barked, and you looked at him between the strands of your hair that had fallen away from your laurel wreath crown. His hand slapped your ass, leaving pain the size of his huge hand. "Move."
You physically couldn't; shaking your head, you tried to plead for him to stop, but all he did was seize your neck with his hand, pressing similarly to your brother months before. He gave you a warning look, eyes glossy from pleasure, and you attempted to move, guided by the grip on your hip.
"There you go,"He groaned. "Didn't think you could take it."
You attempted to keep the pace of his hand, staggering. Through your droopy eyes, you could see his face illuminated by the candle light; a scar across his cheek that didn't maim his handsome face, the grey in his scruff and his hands moved you to fuck him, his brown eyes were closed in pleasure as his cherry tainted lips parted, allowing grunts and moans to escape. You felt his desire as he increased his speed, his cock burning into you in every thrust as he commanded you with his hands. He seemed to be fighting his pleasure, his eyes rolling back every now and then as he attempted to keep his gaze on you.
"That's it," he guided, voice gruff. "You look much prettier like this."
Your gaze, that had been stuck to his chest in effort to advert his eyes, rose to look at him. Oh, he was entranced by the way your crown had knocked to the side due to his maneuvering, the way tears glistening in your blushed cheeks, and how small your hands looked pressed into his chest. And finally, how your cunt pulsed around him every time he slammed you down onto his hips along with the sweet whimpers you emitted.
His hands departed from the place they have stuck to, roaming to cup your ass for more support. You gasped as he effortlessly raised you off his cock, letting it slip out with a faint "pop". Without a word he tossed you to the side of the bed.
"Enough of my amusement," he groaned as your face slammed into the pillows. He was everywhere as he positioned you on all fours, immense chest stuck against you and hands arranging your limbs. His hand fell across your cheek, igniting fire in his touch. "I am going to fuck a heir into you, stay still."
He said it with such easiness in his command that you knew he was used to giving this type of orders.
"No no please," You attempted, thrashing around to persuade him, but his cock was already lined between your legs. "Please, please don't-"
The scruff of his chin scratched against your neck a he bottomed inside of you, quieting you definitively. You could feel him in your guts, balls sticking to your clitoris due to the wetness he had caused.
"What can make a foolish little girl like you to behave more than carrying a General's heir?"
He began his assault on your core, one hand grasping the hair on your nape as he fucked you as a animals do.
"Your brother told me-"He grunted between thrusts, allowing himself to go inside, all eight inches of him. "You doubted his reign."
As you wept into the pillows, moans escaping your mouth, against your honor. He halted, hand pressing against the back of your neck.
"Answer me." He pressed, pushing your face even deeper into the pillows. "Did you?"
"Y-yes." You choked out, cock so deep inside you couldn't string a coherent word.
"Good." He admitted, to your surprise, continuing his pace. "Your brother is a foolish man; proved it himself when he gave you to me."
Your knuckles wrapped around the bed sheets, attempting to suppress the waves of pleasure that erupted as he picked a strong pace. Your cunt became wetter and wetter as it clenched, unwillingly, around him.
"What can a war torn general do to a tiny princess like you?" He mused between his sighs and groans. "Foolish Emperor."
As he said the last part, he rested once again his chest to your back, both covered in sweat from the heat of both of your bodies. His arm, strong and rough, wrapped itself around your lower stomach, holding you in place as his lips sucked your neck. The closeness felt awry, even if you were newly weds.
"Once I have fucked a child into you, no one could deny it's place in the throne."
That took you by surprise, but your eyes were closing off from exhaustion and your lips were too busy whimpering from the hot fire he had ignited in your core.
"Oh," he chuckled against your salty skin, dipping his other hand in between your body, tracing a path until he found that spot. His pointer and middle pressed against it, recollecting moisture from your pussy before circling it slowly. You felt the pressure build, as if you urgently needed to go to the bathroom. "a gentlemen as myself needs to make a girl cum before painting her insides. How could I forget that?"
He teased, managing a rhythm with his hand and hips. You felt a knot building right where he was rubbing, spreading through your nerves to make your whole body become limp. You let him fuck you, body tired and sore and unable to pose any more resistance other than gentle whimpers, swallowed by his loud groans, the sound the bed made against the floor and the squelching of his cock drilling into you. You were too gone to process any more than the pleasure washing over your body; pain bloomed, but in the most exquisite way as you felt yourself cling around the thick thing drilling into you.
"There you go," He cooed, closing his eyes as he felt it too. "there, there..."
Your mouth suddenly opened agape, as a hoarse whine left your throat and you felt it. You came undone so easily, beneath him.
He attempted to last, at least a few minutes more, prolong his pleasure, but the way you looked over your shoulder at him, as if attempting to understand what just happened, drove him wild.
It took him three final thrusts to come; You could count them as each was more punishing and rough than the previous, despite being hammered into you quickly. With a final grunt, you felt his burning hot cum pour into your insides, and his huge body collapsed on top of yours. You waited patiently for him to pull out, but as a child smitten with his favorite toy, he rolled over and continued to hold you close, hot breathe fanning in your neck.
He panted, regaining his breathe, before he actually spoke to you, who was quietly laying in his bicep. You felt tears spring from your eyes again.
"You will birth me an heir to claim the throne after your brothers have fallen."
Marcus Acacius had spoken.

The Princess (and the chaos she brings with her) - steve rogers x fem!reader (1/?)
Summary: when Thor asked the avengers to guard a dear friend of his, they didn't think twice before saying yes. What they didn't know was that said friend is the princess of one of the nine realms, and a lost love of one Captain Rogers.
Part 1 // I thought you were dead // word count: 3.5k
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"(y/n), you have to eject, right now!" Steve screamed over the torrents of wind whistling through the ship. Schmidt was dead, gone. So was the tesseract. But it wasn't over yet. "I have to put her in the water!"
The girl behind him widened her eyes, battling against the elements to reach him. "There's no world in which I let you do that, Captain!"
"I'm not asking for permission!"
"Well then, I guess we go down together!" She painstakingly made her way to him, every step a feat of strength. Her previously neatly pinned curls no longer even resembled what they once were as her hair whipped around her face.
As Steve turned to face her, she somehow still looked angelic. He felt that right now, she was more heavenly than ever. He couldn't let her die with him.
"Buckle in." He commanded, as they began their quick descent. He looked at her, the first woman who had ever made him feel seen, the only person he had ever met who was as crazy as he was.
As the ice flew closer, he turned and placed a hand tenderly on her face. Tears welled in his eyes as his mind wandered to the future they could've had. God, they could have been amazing.
"I'm sorry, (y/n)." He whispered. She could only just hear it, even though they were right next to each other.
He pulled the yellow ejection lever on the seat she had just buckled herself into, watching as her eyes widened. "No! Steve, no!" She lifted her hands to stop him, to jam the lever, anything to stay with him. She wasn't quick enough.
Steve closed his eyes as her seat was ejected, hearing her scream his name. There was no world where he allowed her to go down with him, and he trusted that wherever she ended up, Stark and Peggy would find her. He hoped they would be able to find him, too.
He hadn't prayed in a long time, but as he went down, he bargained with God for her safety.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It is my honour to introduce the new and improved Captain America and the Howling Commandos exhibit, in honour of the 100th birthday of Captain Steven Grant Rogers." The crowd clapped as the senator stepped off the podium, motioning for Steve to take the mic. Bucky and Sam laughed at how uncomfortable the Captain was as he stood thanking everyone for an exhibit he never wanted. All part of the job, he supposed.
After the handshakes, and the photo ops, and the autographs and the meet and greets, the boys finally got relative peace to wander around the new exhibition.
"I can't believe you used to wear these stupid suits." Sam laughed, standing in front of the main exhibit. Bucky sighed, budging Sam's shoulder. "Says the asshole who wears a bird suit to fight." He retorts.
Steve laughed at his friends antics, but walked away when he noticed an addition to the exhibit he hadn't seen before. He stared, wide eyed at the name in front of him.
(Y/N): THE MISSING HERO?
Steve found himself drinking in every inch of the gorgeous photo underneath the text, her bright smile and barely visible freckles. The lighting highlighted the different hues in her immaculately pinned hair. She looked just like an angel, as she always did in real life.
Steve looked down, forlorn eyes investigating very few artefacts in the glass exhibit. Her folded uniform, found in her room after the plane went down. The blush lipstick you wore every day. Finally, an object that Steve didn't recognise. A golden ring, encrusted in unidentified jewels and a family crest no one knew. He frowned.
He had known her only a short few months, but he regretted never asking about her family. And now, it would haunt him that he never did until his last breath.
"They never found her, huh?" Bucky placed his covered hand on Steve's shoulder, a sadness tinged in his voice. He had only met (y/n) briefly, but he knew even then that Steve's heart rested in the palm of that woman's hand.
He had asked about her, once, but the look on Steve's face when her name was mentioned told him everything he needed to know.
"No. Howard searched for years, found nothing. Turned out that she had lied on her intake forms for the SSR, too. We don't even know if (y/n) was really her name." He took a beat. "We have no idea if she survived or not."
Steve didn't have to make the subtext clear, Bucky knew he worried that he had killed her by ejecting her from that plane. Bucky also knew there was no sense in trying to tell him she would have died either way, that the ice would've killed her.
"You okay?" Bucky asked, after another few moments of silence.
Steve nodded, looking at the photo. "I'm glad she's remembered. I just wish I didn't have so many unanswered questions."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So," Tony started. "Thor is arriving with the guest of honour later today, who we have agreed to protect here for the meantime. We don't have a lot of background for this one. The dark elves are the ones we're protecting her against, but Thor said threat could come from many areas. Do we have any questions?"
The team looked nothing short of bored. Well, most of them. Cap always had the good grace to sit up and look interested. Scott was straight up asleep.
"Is she important? How long will she be staying with us?" Steve asked.
"No idea, and uh, no idea. Anything else?"
"Is she single?" Sam asked, earning a laugh from some of the others. Steve shook his head disapprovingly, but smiled at his friend's levity.
As Steve stood up to go back to training, FRIDAY sounded around the room. "Excuse me everyone, my satellites have detected a bifrost signal heading for the compound imminently."
"Speak of the devil!" Tony clapped his hands as everyone headed out to the bifrost landing site (something that had been instituted after Tony's lawn got scorched one too many times).
Bucky smacked Scott upside the head to wake him up with a jolt. "Oh, where are you guys going?" He called behind them, jogging to catch up. Steve waited behind from him, laughing at his groggy friend.
A bright light connected with the grass just beside the landing site. Tony's hands covered his eyes as he mouthed are you fucking kidding me. When the light cleared, Thor stood tall in his usual armour.
"My friends!" His voice boomed, "I present to you, my fellow avengers, the honourable princess of Alfheim, jewel of the Alfar and ambassador to Asgard." Thor's voice boomed through the halls of the compound. "This is my friend, (y/n)."
Beside Thor stood a girl. She was breathtakingly beautiful, with a heavenly stature. She looked like she could have been carved from marble by the hands of God himself.
A light Asgardian pink dress was covered by a golden chest-plate which fit her body like it had been moulded just for her. It was covered in intricate etchings of suns and stars, which caught the light and shone brilliantly. She wore golden jewellery, which was nothing like the avengers had ever seen. Golden ear cuffs covered her pointed ears, with her long hair pulled into an up-do, emphasising the golden, bejewelled tiara on her head.
"Princess?" Sam squeaked. Wanda smacked him, with a look that screamed don't embarrass us.
Tony tilted his head in confusion at the guest, who he could almost swear he recognised from somewhere. "Thor, you did not inform us that we were looking after the ruler of a planet. We would have been more prepared."
"I am not ruler yet, Mr. Stark." The girl cast her eyes up at Tony, as she smiled sweetly. Her voice was honey smooth, and anyone who heard it felt themselves being charmed by it. "I have heard much about you all from Thor."
"Should we bow?" Bruce whispered to Tony, who shrugged his shoulders. Thankfully, (y/n) took the lead and shook each of their hands.
She looked around at each of the gathered avengers. Thor made his introductions to the rest of the group. "Where are the others?" Thor enquired.
"Here!" Steve smiled at the site of his old friend, his view of the princess obscured by the large man. Bucky and Scott tagged behind him, also happily greeting Thor.
"Captain, it is very good to see you. Please, let me introduce you to the Princess (y/n)." Thor stepped aside to introduce them, but his eyebrows knitted together in confusion when neither of them moved, almost frozen in place.
"Uh... hi." Scott side-stepped the Captain and caught the eye of their guest. "My name's Scott Lang."
The girl tore her eyes away from the captain, unsure really on what to do. But her training kicked in, knowing that being rude was one of the worst sins a princess could commit. "Hello, Mr. Lang. I am (y/n)."
"Holy shit." Bucky breathed out.
The rest of the avengers watched the rather silent exchange with confusion. It was very unlike Steve to get so tongue-tied, and he would never be so rude as to not introduce himself.
"Captain Rogers..." The girl spoke first, confusing them further. "I believed you dead." Tears had welled in her eyes, intriguing the observing crowd even more.
"I thought you were dead." He breathed. "What... what is going on?"
Bucky interjected. "Um, hi. I'm Bucky, we met briefly in '45."
She smiled softly at him, but her eyes betrayed her confusion. "Sergeant Barnes, of course! Didn't you... also die?"
"Yeah, we've all got a lot of explaining to do." Bucky laughed as the absurdity of the situation caught up to him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thor's eyes darted between his friend and the captain. When Thor asked the avengers to guard her from the war on Alfheim, he knew some hijinks would ensue. This is not what he expected. He knew you had spent some time on Midgard before and when you returned you were emotionally distraught. He had simply figured the war you had fought with the Midgardians had taken it's toll.
He eyed both the Captain and you, suspiciously. You were his dear friend, but you had never talked to him about any mortal love.
"So, Princess. You've been here before." Tony enquired.
The Princess licked her lips nervously, glancing at Steve, who had barely moved a muscle, his eyebrows furrowed. "Yes, Mr. Stark. I spent some time here during the second world war. I left Midgard when Johann Schmidt was defeated, and haven't returned since."
"Tell us about your world, Princess. I've never heard of it before." Natasha, the red-head in the corner, asked the guest.
"You have heard of it before." The princess smiled, explaining. "I believe we are now known as a fantasy character here - you call us elves." She pointed to her pointed ears as each avenger clung to her words.
Thor smiled at his Midgardian friends' curiosity.
"The Alfar still live amongst you, they are simply unseen. I believe you may know Tolkien?" At the mention of the author's name, everyone's ears pricked. "He was one of my father's greatest friends and many of his book settings were inspired by Alfheim."
"What!" Scott exclaimed. "That's insane."
"Really, Ant Man?" Bucky responded, pointing out that they were all ridiculous, when you thought about it. The world was crazy now.
The princess chuckled, and rose from her seat at the conference table. "Thank you very much for your hospitality, Avengers. I would quite like to rest in my chambers, if you would be so gracious to allow me."
"Um, yeah... consider yourself allowed." Tony stumbled over his words. Very unusual for him, and it did not go unnoticed by the others. "Dinner is at seven."
"Thank you, Mr. Stark. Captain Rogers," She addressed the Captain, who looked up quickly. His face was pale, and he nervously twiddled his thumbs. "Would you be so kind as to show me my rooms?"
He popped up, almost comedically fast. "Yes. Yeah, sure. Um, this way." He walked out quickly, darting his eyes back to make sure the princess was following him.
She followed, gracefully. Her skirts fanned out behind her as she walked. The avengers in the room could scarcely take their eyes off her as she faded from sight.
As soon as the door closed behind them, the room devolved into chaos. People shouting theories and questions left, right and centre. Mostly, everyone was just bewildered. Bucky and Thor discussed how they had both known the couple separately, and whether each had talked about the other.
Natasha watched as Tony sat quietly on his tablet for a few seconds, searching for something she could only assume was relevant to the discussion at hand.
"Bucky, what's the deal there?" Clint asked.
He was interrupted by Tony. "Aha!" Stark called, silencing the room. "I knew I recognised her from somewhere."
He projected a photograph to the wall, and the avengers gasped.
The photograph consisted of Steve and Bucky front and centre. Bucky had his left arm wrapped lazily around Tony's dad, Howard. And Steve was looking directly at the girl next to him, holding her to him by the waist. It was the princess. The gaze he looked at her with... it was like nothing they had ever seen from him.
"They didn't just know each other, they were in love." Bucky replied to Clint's question, a hint of sadness underneath his words.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/n) followed Steve along the large corridors of the compound, her smaller legs working double time to match his long strides. They walked in silence, for the most part. It wasn't the comfortable kind.
"Captain." She spoke first, again. As she called for him, he stopped walking abruptly, turning slowly. He met her gaze and then cast his eye down.
"(y/n)... I mean, um, Princess." He responded.
"(y/n) is sufficient." She whispered, almost guiltily. "I can't believe you're alive..."
"I can't believe you're alive," He retorted. "I searched for you, when I woke up. They couldn't find any records of you other than your enlistment form, and they found you had lied. People think you're just a ghost story..."
He took a breath. "I can't believe you're here and... an alien princess?"
"I know it's hard to believe, I hope you understand why I couldn't tell you back then." She laughed. "When I found that you and Sergeant Barnes were dead, I couldn't face being here anymore... I returned to Alfheim."
As she thought back on it, a tear sprung to her eye. On seeing her reaction, Steve couldn't help himself but place a friendly hand on her back, rubbing soothing circles. She briefly froze at the contact, but quickly, she moved her own hand down his arm until she was holding onto his hand with both of hers.
So much went unsaid, but the contact confirmed what they had both most desperately wanted to know. Would it be the same?
"If I had known that you and Sergeant Barnes were alive, Captain..." She admitted. "I would have returned in an instant, I give you my word."
He smiled, rubbing a thumb over the back of her hand. A red blush hugged her cheeks as he did so.
It was typical of him that he couldn't concentrate on the moment, "Why are you here?" He asked. "What are we protecting you from?"
She sighed. "The Svartalfar, or the dark elves. You may know them - they attacked Thor in the Midgardian city of London some years ago now." He nodded in recognition.
"They are determined to conquer Alfheim, and have set their sights on my family. They have already managed to get close to killing me."
She pushed the collar of her dress down, showing a large, angry, red scar just above her collarbone. His hands flew up to trace the scar. She gulped at the close contact, her eyes meeting his.
His expression gave away his concern, knowing that Thor had suggested she was in a lot of danger. "Don't worry, Princess. You're safe here." He smiled, softly. "We'll protect you with everything we've got."
"Thank you, Captain."
"It's just Steve." He unhooked their hands, and gave her his arm. She linked her arm in his, and he resumed wandering down the halls to her rooms. "Do you have any bags?"
"No, I fled to Asgard with nothing when I needed healing. The Asgardians were kind enough to offer many gorgeous clothes for me to bring, but I figured they were a bit conspicuous."
Steve laughed, "Yeah, they might be."
They walked for a little while longer, before Steve entered a room to the side. It was rather basic compared to what she was used to, but it would more than suffice for the meantime.
"This is your room." He stood by the door as she entered. "I'm just down the hall if you need anything. I'll get Tony to send you some less conspicuous clothes. See you at dinner."
"Thank you, Steven." He laughed at her inability to be too informal with him. He nodded at her, and turned to walk down the hall to his room.
As he entered, the photograph of her from the Smithsonian caught his eye from the nightstand. He picked it up, tracing her features with his finger - unable to stop the smile spreading across his face. Who would've thought? Not only was his girl alive, she was also alien royalty. Sometimes, just sometimes, he adored his strange, strange world.

"Sir," The agent walked into the dark room with purpose in her every step. "The Princess has been spotted."
The man in the chair looked up at the mention of his target. "Show me" he ordered. He watched as agent transferred the images on her tablet to the big screen, showing grainy, far away surveillance of the avengers compound.
As low quality as the image was, the woman arriving with Thor in the distinctive Alfar dress and armour was certainly the princess.
"Oh, my dear..." The man's deep voice dragged out. "You have walked right into our sights."

From a seed grows
Chapter I: Thyme
Pairing: Jacaerys Velaryon x reader
Synopsis: To claim a dragon one must be prepared to give up their life, yet this is the one thing you never wished to give up.
Wordcount: 3.5K
Warnings: implications of death, mentions of death, but really light nothing graphic.
Author's note: It's done, the first chapter! Fun little fact: every chapter will be named after a plant/flower that represents an emotion/theme of one of the characters :) I put a lot of thought into this story, the chapter names, and the character so I hope you will feel that as you read.
One last thing, a huge thank you to @madame-fear for showing interest into the story which prompted me to continue working on it! I adore her and her work, you should check out her blog!
English is not my first language, apologies for any mistakes.
Happy reading <3

Blood dripped from your hands, the dagger clattering to the floor. The sound echoed through the dark, empty alleyway and reverberated in your head. Soft, sharp gasps left you as you staggered backwards, your legs struggling to keep you standing as you buckled to the ground.
Blood dripped from your hands, the dagger clattering to the floor. The sound echoed through the dark, empty alleyway and reverberated in your head. Soft, sharp gasps left you as you staggered backwards, your legs struggling to keep you standing as you buckled to the ground.
âWhat have I done?â your voice whispered to the night, your hands gripped the stone of the street as you struggled to regain your breath. You couldnât stay here; staying here meant getting caught, getting caught meant being punished, and the punishment would most likely be death.
A life for a life.
You looked around you, hoping you were concealed enough that you wouldnât be recognized. The only light was a single street lantern at the entry to the alley and the moon. You knew you had very few options: leave the city, leave and hope youâll never be found out, be found out and flogged, tortured, flayed, or hanged. None of them sounded particularly great, but one sounded the best.
You crawled to where you had dropped the dagger, knowing you couldnât leave it behind, no matter how rusty or stained it was. You took out an old handkerchief you always carried and wiped the blood off the blade, before stuffing the dagger in its holder. You sat there for a moment, trying to regain your breath before forcing yourself upwards and onwards. You prayed as you walked towards your home, prayed for forgiveness, prayed for mercy, prayed for help.
Prayed to all the Gods you knew of, old and new, to grant you safe passage out of the city. You passed people and shops, pleasure houses and closed homes, you passed by your life, your dreams and hopes. All to be left behind.
A moment later you were at the humble shack you called home, or at least your home was one of the rooms within the shack. Fleabottom wasnât known for having particularly good real estate, but you and all the others made do. You went to your room, unlocking the shabby door that had seen too many beatings to really be considered safe and entered your little haven.
It was by all accounts small and in an abysmal shape, mold decorated the bleak walls alongside various other stains whom you did not wish to identify. Your bed was on the left side of the room, with a clear view of the door (just in case) and your small, very small, dresser was in front of it.
You dug through the room searching for a bag of any kind, when you found it you filled it with anything that could be considered even remotely valuable. It may have been little, but it should allow you to buy a one-way trip on a ship. The destination mattered little, as long as it wasnât King's Landing.
As you ruffled through the top drawer of the dresser you stumbled upon what felt like a button. In all your years of owning it, you had never once felt this weird object hidden amidst your possessions. Curiosity beguiled you to push it and a latch opened on the top of the dresser, revealing a small hidden compartment.
Although curiosity had won the first battle, you were unsure if you wanted it to win this one. Alas, you had dipped a toe in the water and the waves were now too strong to get out. A hidden compartment was no novelty, many stories started with the protagonist finding an object of great significance in such a place and then embarking on an earth-changing adventure to save all of mankind.
You, however, felt like quite the opposite of such, even when your fingers felt an object hidden in the dark, hidden place. You almost laughed at the absurdity of this day, perhaps the Gods above were in a jesting mood. Slowly, carefully, you pulled the strange object from its hiding place, and soon you were face to face with something you had never seen before.
It looked to be a necklace, a simple silver chain with a simple pendant, it looked much like the necklaces you saw people wear around Flea Bottom. There was truly nothing notable about it, except for maybe the seven-pointed star of the Seven decorating the front and the small engraving on the back.
An engraving that had faded badly, presumably from the necklace having been worn a lot. It could only be seen when held at a certain angle, with ample light to decipher the words: Naejot issa byka zaldrīzes.
You rolled the words over your tongue, trying your hardest to grasp whatever language it was. It sounded oddly familiar, as if it were something from a dream, a memory unclear and nearly forgotten but now resurfacing. Whatever the words may mean, you presumed them to be words the previous owner must have cherished when taking into account how faded they were.
As you looked at the words more closely you noticed small initials beneath them, your eyes lit up slightly. This necklace must have been a gift. The initials were vague, two letters common enough they could belong to anyone.
A.T.
An odd feeling washed over you as you imagined what must have happened to the owner of this beautiful piece, how it ended up hidden in a dirty old dresser, in a shabby room in an even shabbier house. You did not have much time left to waste pondering the necklaceâs history, dawn was creeping up into the sky, you could see small streaks of early morning light on the horizon.
In a hurry you put the necklace around your neck and hid it under your simple clothes. You braided your hair, in a quick manner, so it would not hinder you as you hurried through the maze of Flea Bottom.
You arrived at the harbor quickly through some risky but effective shortcuts, nearly avoiding a drunken brawl. At last you had made it to what would hopefully lead you to safety, or close to it. Sailors were moving around you carrying various sizes of knapsacks and their fellow sailors who had partaken too much in cheap ale. Dockworkers were starting their morning shifts as they moved to unload the various ships laying in their docks.
They carried crates filled with the finest fabrics, with spices you could not pronounce nor taste for they would surely cost more than youâd ever be able to afford. Your eyes wandered around to find someone you could approach and soon enough you spotted a young man with silvery blond hair and shabby clothes moving towards one of the ships. As you looked to see where he was going, you noticed some others moving towards the same ship. All sporting that same silvery blond hair.
You jogged towards the man who was surprised to see you approach him, âexcuse me,â you smiled at him as he came to a halt, a silent invitation for you to continue, âwhere is that ship headed?â
The man furrowed his eyebrows at you, as if you just asked the most idiotic thing known to man. âTo Dragonstone,â was all he said before he took off, increasing the speed in his step, almost as if to deter you from following.
You pondered to yourself for a moment, as you watched more silvery blondes approach the ship. There had been rumors, for there are always rumors in Flea Bottom, about the Black Queen looking for Targaryen bastards. Anyone with either silvery blond hair, lilac eyes, or both or even neither was urged to come to Dragonstone for an opportunity to bond with a dragon. Perhaps it was more than a rumor as you saw more and more people board the ship.
It was foolish, really, truly, well and wholly foolish, you thought to yourself as you stood in front of Dragonstone, the holdfast large and formidable. Guards escorted the large group to a small courtyard, as you looked through the crowd most of them had silvery blond hair, some light, others dark. There were a few on the other hand who had come with brown hair, red hair, or even black.
All had come to stand before the Black Queen, to serve her cause by potentially claiming a Targaryen dragon. On your journey, the people had been speaking of nothing else but the dragons, their size, their coloring, their behavior.
Much regarding the opinions of dragons had changed after the Greens paraded Meleysâ head around Kingâs Landing for all to see. There used to hang an air of unspoken devotion to dragons, they were to be feared, regaled, and not opposed, unless one wished for imminent death.
They were gods flying high above men, and the people who rode them were their only link to humanity. Now the smallfolk knew dragons were mortal, killable, vulnerable, and that the very house who rode them also killed them, paraded them, and unlike the small folk, did not worship them.
People whispered of killing dragons, where before those words were said in bouts of drunken foolishness, they were now said with drunken confidence. The people were hungry, and the dragons were potential food. Food for the stomach of starving men, ailing peasants, and also food to fuel a rebellion.
So now, for one of these dragonriders to actively seek out Targaryen bastards and lure them with a possibility of becoming equals, many could not resist. Not even you. You knew the dangers involved in claiming such a phenomenal beast, knew it most likely meant your death if you truly tried to claim a dragon. You also knew that you were now away from Kingâs Landing, in what could possibly be the only place safe for no one would dare attack this stronghold with all the dragons that lay within.
A guard came up to you as you were letting your eyes wander, his Kingsguard uniform reflecting the sun caught your attention, âHoods down,â he commanded as he reached over to pull it down himself.
Before you could stop him, you could already feel the wind tussling your braid and tickling your ear. Now, with your hood down and hair a mess, you were just like all the others.
A silver-haired bastard.
A dragonseed.
What a cruel fate you had.
Not long after, a young man strolled up to a platform in the courtyard, silence befell the crowd as they realized who he was.
Clad in the dark red and black of the Targaryens, his hands crossed on top of the pommel of his sword, brown curls whirling around his face.
Jacaerys Velaryon, heir to the Iron Throne, daughter to Rhaenyra Targaryen, and he was a beautiful, beautiful man. He addressed the crowds, warning them of the danger, thanking them for their arrival, yet it all felt weirdly aggressive. There was no thankfulness or appreciation to be found in his tone, his brows furrowed and his lips downturned.
You heard a man behind you whisper that he was just a coddled princeling and another chuckled in response, you looked behind you briefly hoping that a stare would silence them. As you looked up back to the prince, you noticed him looking in your very direction. It almost felt as though he was looking directly at you, into your own eyes.
Others who had the same notion as you lowered their heads in reverence, in respect for their prince albeit that some carried an air of reluctance to them as they did. You felt no such devotion, felt no such need and your actions reflected that. There would be no bowing to a man meters in front of you, who spoke to you with contempt, as if your lives meant nothing at all.
His speech was over quickly, and he was gone with a few guards following in his steps. Another guard stepped up and made one last declaration before the group was to go into the dragonsâ lair. âAll those who wish to leave may leave, no harm shall befall you. You will be escorted back via ship at the earliest possible moment. All the others-â he signaled another guard who opened up the barricades put in place earlier, âfollow me.â
Many of the crowd left, deciding that the threat of death so brutal was too large to face in comparison to the one they would face in Kingâs Landing. You supposed you could not blame them, a death by dragon fire or dragon stomping didnât sound pleasant, however the fate that would no doubt await you in Flea Bottom sounded worse.
The ones left over were escorted to the inner parts of the castle, staircase after staircase, never once allowed to dawdle or gawk. The Queensguard were strict and didnât hesitate to employ certain tactics to keep all in line. You winced as one of the guards struck a young man for touching a statue, the guard said nothing as he did so, only pushing the lad back into the line when he was done.
Tears pricked in the corner of the boyâs eyes, his hand cradling his hurting cheek. He had been pushed right in front of you, almost causing you two to collide. You tapped his shoulder as you procured an old handkerchief from your pocket, âhereâ you said as you practically shoved it into his non-occupied hand. He smiled a soft smile at you in thanks, before taking the fabric and dabbing at his eyes.
He didnât seem much younger than you, perhaps he wasnât. You didnât ponder it too much however, chances were that he would die in the dragon pit just like many others. There would be no benefit in cosying up with the others, knowing that after this most of you will likely be dead or have risen too far in station to consider yourself with your lessers.
You cursed yourself and your cynicism often, however, today you proved yourself right. You were clinging to the walls of the dragonâs cave, hoping for dear life he had not seen you. The only light source you had were the flames that had come from Vermithor as he erupted in a fury that made him worthy of his name.
By now he must have devoured nearly all of the bastards that came to try and stake a claim. You pitied all of them, they tried to improve their standing however now all they were were ash and bones. Growls followed by screams were heard in the distance from yourself, perhaps the distance was large enough for you to get out and run, flee, escape, whatever the apt word might be.
An escape would be difficult, were it not for the fact that Vermithor was deeply engrossed in hunting a few people in the opposite direction of where you needed to go. You stalked through his enclosure with practiced ease, you tried to remain calm with your heart pounding in your chest, clouding your hearing and making your breath erratic. You refused to die here, you refused to be a burned corpse or some dragonâs dinner. No, you wanted to be more, so much more.
You wanted to be more than a peasant from Flea Bottom, a silver-haired bastard, a woman, you wanted to be more than all that. You wanted to be more than a dragonseed, more than what your parents doomed you to be. In order to achieve that, you would need to rise to the occasion and escape. With every ounce of strength, willpower, resentment, and fear you had in you, you ran towards the exit.
As you reached the opening you noticed it didnât lead to solid ground, no grass or rocks to greet you. As you smelled the fresh air you also smelled the unmistakable smell of the sea. A salty fishy smell filled your nostrils and consumed your lungs.
Into the sea you soon jumped, a stupid, reckless idea, but far better than trying to climb down a mountain. All you hoped for was that the Gods would show you mercy and carry you to shore. The sea was cold, colder than you had expected, it took you great power to swim close to shore and drag your body through the sand before collapsing.
Your chest moved up and down in quick succession, desperate for air, as you tried to regain your strength you closed your eyes, letting the happenings of the day pass through your mind.
Sleep tried to claim you, alas, it was to no avail, for soon thereafter a loud roar resonated into the sky causing you to bolt upright from where you laid. A winged creature flew above you. It was large and formidable, you believed it to be even larger than the dragon you had seen in the Dragonstone caves.
The formidable beastâs shadow covered you as it flew over the sun, for as far as your eyes could see the world was now shrouded in darkness, only in the far distance could you see the sun rays touch the ground once more. The roars it let out were bone-chilling, a feeling of dread had washed over you from the moment you rose but now you were rooted to the ground with the fear of death settling in your veins which ironically left you unable to move. You had never imagined your death this way. Where nobles imagined dying in their canopy beds on silken sheets, you would be lucky if you died by a clean cut to your neck.
Now, however, it seemed you would die from this dragon thinking you made a decent hors d'oeuvre, before finding something larger or more plentiful to truly fill its stomach. Gods you really had a most cruel fate.
Once more a deafening roar resounded to the sky, causing your knees to buckle in fear as your hands shot to your ears in a vain attempt to dampen the noise. You kept your eyes locked onto the large figure as it soared through the sky, going higher and then lower, as if taunting you, playing with you, truly regarding you as prey.
In an odd way it frustrated you, standing there, waiting, baiting your breath as to when the dragon finally decided to end you. Anger rose through you more and more the longer this cat and mouse dance continued. Fear became an afterthought as your anger of a futile death overcame you.
âIâm here!â You screamed at the sky âKill me! I dare you!â If anyone saw you, theyâd be regarding you as a madwoman, which admittedly you were. However, it seemed as though no one was there, on this vast beach with waves continuing their cycle of ebb and flow, you were alone. Alone with the dragon. One last attempt you thought as you opened your mouth to scream, yet no sound could come for that very moment the dragon chose to descend onto the ground.
Your frozen feet suddenly could not move any faster, the large dragon got closer as you scrambled to get away, the sand making for incredibly difficult terrain when you want to be quick. One wrong step and you were sent tumbling down, face first in the sand. With the thought of impending death overtaking your mind, you found the tiniest bit of energy to turn around. In doing so, you were facing the dragon as it descended, shielding your eyes as sand was blown in all directions from the beating of the wings. A loud thud echoed on the empty beach as the beast finally stood on solid ground, its large body covered you in shadow.
Its snout was so close to your face, you could feel the puffs of hot breath. Bright, emerald green eyes were in stark contrast to the pitch black of its scales. The dragon was magnificent as it was terrifying, you gulped and took rapid breaths. Panic had settled in now, panic, fear, and anger, none were a pretty feeling. One of your hands went up to clutch your new necklace as you closed your eyes.
Waiting for the inevitable.
.
.
.
On a distant dune stood a smaller dragon, much smaller than the one hovering over the young woman. Upon that small dragon, with scales of olive green and wings decorated with a pale orange, sat the young prince, a spyglass held to one of his eyes as he witnessed the scene.
A part of him felt a great sense of pity for the woman. She looked young, perhaps around his age, and she had showed great courage in fleeing from Vermithor. A pity she would die so soon, yet at the same time. A bastard less or more would not make any difference
He closed his spyglass and pocketed it inside his tunic. There was no need to watch the scene unfold, he thought. He buckled his saddle tighter and spoke to his dragon, âsĆvÄs Vermax.â

No Vacancy
Eric Coulter x gn!reader fic
less then 1k words (951 if you want to be specific) WARNINGS: angst
No one is safe from progress. No one is safe from Erudite. No one is safe from the mindless Dauntless carrying out commands they can't even hear, but can only feel through the iron claws of the serum forcefully injected into their blood.
No one is safe.
Not even you, Eric's favorite.
--------------------------------------------------
Four was looking out the windows of the Prior home when he saw you.
Tris was upstairs, calling out to her mom and her dad, nothing but silence answering her, but you were out in the street. Dressed in black, a gun in your hand, your eyes blank and face slack. Enthralled by the simulation just like the rest of them.
Heâd never admit to anyone how his heart sank at the sight.
Not even you were safe from this. You, Ericâs favorite. His poorly kept secret that all of the Dauntless knew about, but would never speak of. The one heâd sneak off to on lonely nights, the one heâd hunt down in the dark corners of the parties and the gatherings. You, whoâd gone through initiation just a year after him and Four. Whoâd stolen the black heart of their most ruthless leader yet with your strength, your fearlessness, and your bravery.
You. Injected and shipped off as a mindless puppet of war. Like you were nothing.
Four took a shaky breath, his jaw shifting and clenching at the anger that swelled within him. His head turned as Tris came back down the stairs, telling him her parents werenât here. No one was. He cast one more glance out towards you just as you turned a corner and vanished from sight. Silently, he pitied you, but he didnât have the time to show it. Nor did he ever think heâd get the chance to express it face to face.
God knows how youâd feel once you woke up. Once the simulation wore off or was shut down, if he and Tris did what he hoped they could.
------------------------------------------------
Eric rounded the corner, steps light, shoulders loose, only pausing once his eyes landed on you. His prize, his plaything.
His favorite.
You marched on, face empty, hands clenched around your weapon, eyes focused, but not on anything real. His hand came out as you approached and you stopped obediently in place, gaze fixed on something only you could see in the far distance. Behind him, Max stepped forward, sighing and shaking his head.
âNo oneâs safe, are they?â he asked, almost teasing.
âNot from progress,â Eric admitted. He reached forward, cupping your cheeks in his hands, brushing his thumbs under the circles of your eyes. If you were awake, youâd have smiled. All sweet and sugary. In a way that no one ever had when looking at Eric. He sighed softly when your eyes remained vacant. âYouâll understand though, wonât you?â he asked, now talking to you.
Max scoffed behind him, but Ericâs eyes stayed on yours, the only proof he heard his fellow leader being the slight tick of his jaw.
âDonât be so sure of that,â Max warned. Finally, Eric turned his sharp, gray eyes on the man behind him, frowning just far enough that Max knew his commentary wasnât welcome. He scoffed again before shoulder passed both you and the man you called your lover in the past.
âI am sure,â Eric hissed, leaning in to press an uncharacteristically gentle kiss to your forehead. âYouâll understand, wonât you, sweetheart?â His fingers curled across the nap of your neck, his pinkies absentmindedly toying with the collar of your jacket. âThis is all for the betterment of the city. Of the factions. A necessary evil, hm? How many times have we talked about those? You always told me you understood why they were important. Doing something bad in the name of the greater good , right? Thatâs what this is⊠and youâll see that once you wake up, babe, Iâm sure of it.â He leaned in again, lips barely brushing your crown, his eyes closing just long enough so he could enjoy the warmth of your flesh. The heat under your skin. One that he craved more then water, more then his own breath.
Heâd tried to let you be awake for it all. Tried to fight for you to be one of the ones left unstuck, but they hadnât trusted you enough, the others. Jeanine said youâd be a liability. Max said your loyalty didnât run as deep as Eric thought it did.
You wouldnât be happy once you came out of it, but heâd be there. Eric would be there, heâd make sure of it, so he could explain. So he could hold you â just like he was now â and speak the way he did only for you about how necessary it all was. Even if you didnât understand he would make you⊠because if you didnâtâŠ
... you had to.
He leaned away, sighing heavily, a noise half trapped in his throat as he let his hands slide down your face, the column of your throat, then back to his sides.
âGo on,â he muttered, taking a single step to the side to let you pass.
You did. Steady as all the rest. Eric sighed again as he turned to catch up with Max, his jaw clenched and brow furrowed.
He hated seeing you like that, though heâd never admit that to anyone.
He would have hated it more to see how your eyes fluttered once he was out of sight. How your breath hitched in your chest, your heart racing, beating against your ribs like a war drum. It would have broke his heart to see the tears that lined your lashes as you turned another corner, pausing just long enough to lean your shoulder against it and press your hand to your mouth to stifle the sob that tried to crawl its way free from between your teeth.
He would have hated to know that the serum didnât work.
That you were the very thing they were trying to eradicate.
That you were Divergent .

Late Night Chaos â Daisuke x gn! reader

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five | Part Six | Part Seven | Part Eight | Part Nine
The ship creaked and you could hear the water rush through the pipes. As quiet as the ship was, your ears were picking up on every little groan of the ship, or the rustle of your thin sheets of a blanket as you tossed and turned. You had been on the Tulpar for weeks now, but you still found it hard to fall asleep. Tonight was particularly rough, it just seems your brain wouldnât stop running rampant. Deciding that you needed to do something, you got out of bed, blanket wrapped around you, and went to the main hull.Â
The room was bathed in the navy blue light that shone from the giant screen that was meant to replicate the day and night cycle. Sitting on one of the couches, you mindlessly stared up at the obvious led screen. If this was meant to help with the sanity of the crew, couldnât Pony Express put a little more effort into making it believable? Not to mention you donât get any breaks, no weekends, just work day in and day out. You could feel yourself burning out, yet somehow bored at the same time, a confusing combination.Â
Sure, you got breaks, and sometimes you and the crew would play board games, but couldnât you just get one day of no expectations? Just one day where you could rot in bed? No. Sadly if you were to get your wish then the ship wouldnât run as smoothly, and if the ship wasnât running efficiently than you, the crew, were useless.Â
Your forlorn thoughts came to a halt when you heard a door slide open. Glancing back, you watched Daisuke sneak in, only to jump when spotting you, hands behind his back like he was a child who just got caught doing something wrong.
Stuttering your name, he sent you a strained smile, trying to come off nonchalant, âHeyyyyy, whatâcha doing?â
âCouldnât sleep,â You murmured, eyeing him wearily. âYou?â
âSame,â Daisuke nodded a little too quickly. âYeahâŠuh, didnât mean to bother you. Iâll leave you be.â
âIt's okay,â You shrugged, eyes dragging back to the screen. âI donât mind your company.âÂ
That made Daisuke perk up, eyes trailing to the kitchen before settling back on you. This hadnât been his original plan, but he didnât mind, he also liked your company. So, wanting to get closer to you, he sat beside you, trying to hide the captain's scanner from your view, but you were more perceptive than you seemed (at least at the moment, you looked so cozy all wrapped up with droopy eyes).
âHungry?â You asked with a smirk, smothering a laugh at Daisukeâs scared expression.
âI-itâs not what it looks like!â He tried to defend, hands waving in front of him. âI just have a really bad sweet tooth and have been dying to eat something other than the usual.â
âHmm,â You hummed in amusement, your worried mind slowly relaxing in Daisukeâs presence. âWhat were you gonna make?â
âMake?â Daisuke asked genuinely, blinking confusedly. âIâŠwas just gonna take a sweetener packet or two.â
You broke out laughing, covering your mouth to muffle the sound. The image of Daisuke eating a good sized sweetener packet straight was just hilarious to you. Or perhaps your exhausted brain was making it funnier than it really wasâŠperhaps a mix of both.
âI-it's not that weird,â Daisuke defended, hoping it was dark enough that you couldnât see his embarrassed blush. You snorted, still cracking up. Geeze, you really needed to get some sleep, this was not that funny.Â
âJust straight up sweetener,â You wheezed, hunching into yourself.Â
âI didnât even think of using it to make something,â Daisuke muttered, chuckling as well. You had a point, it was a bit silly, not to mention your laughter was quite contagious.Â
âOh God,â You cackled. âYouâre gonna kill me. Iâm too tired for this.â
Daisuke elbowed you, both of your laughter ringing out around you, âOkay but can you blame me? Imagine being thrown into a sweetless abyss! Itâs a fate I wouldnât wish on my greatest enemy.â
With your chuckles dying down, you grinned up at your fellow intern, âYouâre lucky it was me here instead of Swansea. Iâll keep your little secret safe, but you should probably get it sooner than later. Donât wanna get caught.âÂ
âRight,â He nodded determinedly. He hesitated before standing up, sending another glance towards you before heading to the little kitchen area. He had to admit, seeing you laugh so freely caused his stomach to flutter. The other memberâs seemed so tense, always in work mode, no wiggle room for fun. Even when he was beating everyone at games the otherâs just seemed to get annoyed, frustrated that they werenât winning. Sure he laughed and joked, trying to lighten the atmosphere, but it seemed unwelcomed. Except you, you always seemed to brighten at his jokes, sending a smile his way or trying to joke back. But now, with it just being the two of you, it felt more intimate, a warm and fuzzy atmosphere, he wishes it could last forever.Â
Daisuke was brought out of his thoughts as the sweetener packet appeared out of seemingly thin air. Turning around, he nearly let out a shriek seeing you right behind him, once again chuckling behind your hand, the mischievous glint in your eye making his heart flip.Â
âWe gotta hurry,â You motioned to the door that led to the captain's quarters with your head. âI think I heard someone coming.â
Sweetener packet under one arm, scanner in the other, the two of you scurried out like little rats trying to hide from the sight of humans. Your smile was infectious, and your muffled giggles werenât helping. You both were terrible at stealth missions, but managed to successfully get the scanner back in place without being noticed, so perhaps you werenât all that bad. As you walked back to the sleeping quarters, bumping into the otherâs shoulders with knowing grins, Daisuke couldnât help but think maybe this job wasnât all that bad.
After all, he had you to goof off with.

âwouldâve, couldâve, shouldâve
pairing: luke castellan x fem!poseidon!reader
summary: you try to live with the loss of luke castellan and the betrayal he brought upon you
warning: angst
notes: the timeline is all over the place lmao. i haven't read the books yet (i probably will in the future) so i have no idea how or when luke got claimed. i just made it up for the sake of the story, hope that's alright :)
the wind splashed in your face like the ocean did when you would throw your body in the water. it was different, colder than it normally was. you werenât used to the shiver your body felt, you had always felt at ease at camp halfblood.
now it was nothing like it used to be.
percy and annabeth were down at the camp, far away from the cliffside you were standing on, probably consoling each other.
you had felt nothing but loneliness from the moment he had left.
not even your brother or annabeth couldâve done something to change that.
you felt almost the same you did the day you came to camp. afraid and nervous, hands holding on to luke as you ran after him. thalia, annabeth and grover not far behind you.
but you had felt a bit of familiarity that day too. everything was new to you, but luke wasnât. you had grown up together, experiencing the first effects of being a half-god side by side. there was no one who could take on the role he had held for you.
you stared into the clouds, the width of the sky in front of you, as your mind wandered back.
âlook at the water!â annabeth called loudly.
your hand gripped lukeâs arm, as both of you watched the giant wave travel to the shore.
âposeidonâ an unknown boy behind you muttered and luke and you exchanged glances.
the wave broke down right in front of you, soft water glistening onto your feet as the lake opened up, perfectly wide enough for you to stand in without getting wet.
âwhat?â you mumbled, as the water fell back into its position right as luke was trying to follow you. it drenched you completely, but as your hand moved forward it bend away beneath your touch, moving just as you guided it to.
âshe got claimed by poseidonâ a few girls muttered in awe.
âclaimed?â you repeated, still standing in the lake. you looked at luke, as if he knew any better than you.
you had to move out of the hermes cabin the same day and into a shed that felt less like a home and more like a punishment.
you had been overwhelmed at the bustling loudness of the hermes cabin at first, but now you were missing it. luke slept next to you for the first week, until you decided that you had to do this on your own. still, luke spend every evening with you, until the last alarm rang out and he had to leave if he didnât want to be caught outside after nighttime (or eaten by harpies).
luke and you only grew closer during your time at camp. you did everything together. people got used to it quickly, always pointing out if one of you was missing.
luke found solace in your presence, telling you about his shattered hope regarding his father, someone who was still unknown to him. and you felt bad about it. it had taken days for you to be claimed and luke was still in the dark after months.
it was simply unfair.
you couldn't always relate to his frustration regarding the gods, because your father tried to reach you in forms that was allowed, shipping letters or presents your way, but you always listened to him, understanding that he was going through something different and he desperately needed someone on his side.
to say that luke's claiming was a bit of a let down was an understatement. luke had hoped so long for something that all his expectations had been incredibly low and hermes still managed to undercut them even further.
he didn't bother to pay attention to any of his children, none of them were treated as if they were more than just one piece of a big puzzle.
a letter arrived in the middle of july, listing a bunch of names that hermes had concluded to be those of his children. luke was included on the list. it was nothing special, nothing worth of a mention.
luke stayed in the hermes cabin and lost a bit of hope with each day passing without hearing from his father.
sometimes he found his anger directed at your father, who seemed all the more caring than his own. and although he didn't wish for you to go through the same grief he had gone through, he sometimes wondered what it would feel like to have you understand his experiences.
time passed and luke stopped mentioning his father or anything about the gods completely. you tried to ask him about it, but he claimed to have moved on, not caring for the attention of someone who couldn't be bothered to give it.
that was about the time you started seeing luke in a different light. he was no longer the little boy you had grown up along, he was almost a man, features loosing their boyish touch and dissolving into something more grown. something you had never seen in him before.
it was like getting to know him all over again.
it seemed like it wasn't any different with luke as he suddenly grew interested in the kind of perfume you were using or the little rings on your fingers when your hand would rest on his biceps a little too long.
the infaturation came fast, almost overnight and neither of you was ready to longer deny what was so clearly happening between you.
luke and you started dating that same year. it was the first relationship for the both of you and everything felt special. you couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend. he was kind and funny, always kept an eye on you wherever you went and quickly became the most important person in your life.
faster than you noticed, your whole life revolved around luke castellan. maybe that was why you felt like you had lost everything the night that he left.
you were dating for more than a year by the time percy showed up at camp.
those few days were probably the last you had truly been happy. you had a brother now, he was lovely and you immediately formed a bond with each other, having had similiar experiences regarding the truth about your father.
you remembered the night so clearly. it was like a never ending flashback in your hand.
you were taking a drink out of gina's hand, right as annabeth came running through the forest.
"y/n!" she called, her voice slumping down when she noticed you not far away. "percy" she simply said when you turned around. the distress on her face was enough to make you follow her.
luke looked up at the sound your footsteps were making. and annabeth quickly threw something, that made him let go of what he was holding. you realized too late that it was a sword.
percy was laying on the ground in front of luke. your features turned into a frown, when you looked at your brother and back at your boyfriend.
"y/n" luke said, surprise and worry in his voice. "annabeth"
you were so confused. you didn't even know what was going on. but what he had planned to do send shivers down your spine.
"i heard everything" annabeth said.
luke looked at you, like he was quietly asking if you had heard it too.
you shook your head. "what have you done?" you stepped around annabeth, who tried to hold you back without any luck. you stopped to glance up at him.
luke averted his eyes, feeling your breath against his neck, as your head was still recoiled backwards.
"look at me!" you said loudly, warningly, and you could see the muscles moving in his chin, a frown evident on his mouth.
"he's with kronos" percy announced, before luke had the chance to say something.
the rest of the memory was in a blur, but you clearly remembered your tears. tears of confusion, of betrayal, of hurt. that someone so close to you would betray everything you had fought so hard for? it seemed unfair to say the least.
and that someone was luke, your luke. you didn't even recognize him anymore.
you remembered his hand reaching out for you, the pleading look in his eyes, the silent question, to come with him and leave everything you loved behind. but you shook your head, turning away from him. you didn't even want to look at him. you would rather remember who he had been all those years before.
"sorry" he had muttered and neither annabeth nor you had been fast enough to stop him, as he ran away and through the portal he had opened.
now luke castellan was just a memory that haunted you. like a ghost that never really left your side. you missed him so dearly. all while you wished that he would stay far away at the same time. it was confusing and you hated that you were still so in love with him after everything he had done to you friends, your brother and even you.
you threw his chain into the relentless waves of the sea beneath you, before you walked back into the forest and away from the cliff.
"i haven't seen you all day" percy stood up and fell into a quick step beside you, when he saw you approaching.
"i was up on the cliff" you shrugged.
"oh" he muttered.
he had been following you around camp relentlessly after luke had left a few days ago. the hurt was still fresh, but felt so distant at the same time. percy was worried about you, you could clearly read that from the expression on his face.
he treated you like someone had just died. and that wasn't even far off.
"have you eaten anything?" he asked, not giving up.
"i didn't feel hungry" you mumbled. "where's annabeth?" she had been the only one who could at least somewhat understand what you were feeling. luke had been like a brother to her and both of you were now collateral damage on his path to power.
"you should really eat something" percy retored, matter of factly. "she went to change. i accidently spilled some ketchup on her shirt"
you halted in your step, turning to face your brother who looked up at you with a curious look in his eyes.
"don't ever change" you whispered, reaching out and hugging him close to your chest.
"what?" he mumbled against your body.
you pressed a kiss onto his head, before you let go of him. "thank you for being so caring" you smiled softly. "i will get through this, but i wouldn't without you"
"of course you would" percy shook his head and pushed his hands against his hips. "he's just a boy"
"no" your voice was soft and you tried hard not to let it break in front of him. you had done a pretty good job at avoiding to cry when percy was around you. "he was so much more to me"
percy sighed, but finally nodded. "yeah," he muttered, almost to himself "i get it."
you smiled sadly, appreciating his attempt to understand. the silence stretched between you, the rustling of the trees and the distant crashing of waves filling the space.
then, percy took a deep breath and glanced out at the horizon. "you know," he said, his voice quiet but firm. "the hardest thing isnât losing someone. itâs realizing that no matter what theyâve done, you still carry the good parts of them with you."
you blinked, surprised by the depth of his words. he met your gaze, his eyes filled with a mixture of compassion and resolve. "and thatâs okay. itâs okay to hold onto that. to let yourself feel it. but itâs also okay to let go when you're ready. you loved luke for who he was, not for what he was going to become"
for a moment, you just stood there, absorbing his words. percy, the little brother you never expected, was showing you a wisdom that went far beyond his years.
"yeah, you might be right about that" you said as soon as the words returned to you. "when have you gotten so wise?"
"well, nearly dying does all sorts of things with you"
you smiled, pulling him against you once more. "thank you for coming back home, percy"
"we're in this together now" he assured. "i never had a sister before, but i will try my best to be a good brother"
"you already are an amazing brother, you know?" you said softly. "but you're so much more to me, too"
at that, he send you a look that would probably cure your nightmares for days to come. you and luke had relied on each other all your life, but now he was gone and you had to learn to accept that.
now someone else was relying on you and you promised to not let it come this far again. you would make sure that percy jackson would never experience all the disappointments and frustration you and luke had to endure throughout the years.
you would make sure that percy never felt unwanted or less loved like kids who had normal parents.
you would not fail percy like you had failed luke.

The human, mortal-born baby washed ashore in Gotham Harbor was the talk of the town. Yet, when an out-of-town woman arrived in the dead of night and adopted her, the city quickly forgot the child, too caught up in its unraveling seam to wonder if the young girl found a home. Though they did not notice nor question her humanity, it was the first topic breached after she arrived on Mount Olympus.
âWho is the mortal?â Zeus demanded.
âShe has no name,â Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, answered. âNo family, no birthright. With the permission of the gods, I would like to adopt her, raise her, transform her into the warrior she is destined to be.â
Achilles looked to Zeus and nodded once. Other gods and goddesses followed, leaving their lofty perches to examine the young life nestled in Dianaâs arms. She was at home with Diana, calm and content, and even smiled up at her. When Athena held the child, she squirmed and reached for Diana and cried against Heraâs chest.
âDiana has a connection to her,â Hera told Zeus, âone even you would have trouble breaking.â
âYou have our blessing, daughter,â Zeus announced. âAnd for the child, age will bring her closer to her mother.â
Diana returned to Themyscira, growing to love the young child more each day. As she learned to crawl, walk, and talk, she showed early signs of powers like Dianaâs. The blessing bestowed upon her by the gods brought her closer to her mother, indeed, and by the time you were old enough to leave Paradise, youâd met more than enough heroes, villains, and vigilantes to know your fate.
Present Day, Gotham
âWhat about you, Alkmini?â Flash asks. âAny ideas?â
You shrug, and Black Canary leans over. She whispers, âWhat about the public approach idea?â
âItâs stupid,â you mumble.
"I said the same about the idea to reform the JSA, but here we are,â Batman points out. âWhat were you thinking?â
You shift in your seat and look at the table as you say, âWhat if we just approach them as the JSA rather than trying to find some way to get past the Senate without exposing our identities?â
Batman looks to Superman, who undoubtedly has the most experience hiding his truest identity from humanity.
âWould Diana approve?â Clark asks, smiling at you.
âWhy does it matter what Wonder Woman thinks?â Doctor Fate inquires. âOh, right.â
âShe would,â you answer.
âThen, in three weeksâ time, weâll greet the approaching alien ship as the Justice Society of America, with or without the governmentâs approval,â Superman announces. âMeeting adjourned.â
âPatrolling tonight?â Bruce asks, seeming to spawn at your side.
âIf theyâll let me tag along,â you answer as you prepare to enter the boom tube.
âThe day my boys donât let you patrol with them is the day theyâll need you most.â
âAlkmini!â Tim cheers as you join them on the roof.
âDrake,â you reply softly.
âYou do enjoy reminding us that you know our secret identities,â Jason says, and youâre sure heâs smiling beneath the helmet.
You feel fingers along your belt, and the telltale crack of the Lasso of Truth precedes Dick asking, â Do you care?â
âOf course not,â Jason answers, kicking his foot to remove your rope from his ankle.
âWhy not?â
âIâm going to kill you,â Jason grits out, clearly talking through a clenched jaw.
âWhereâs Robin?â you ask as you pull the lasso from Dick and return it to the hook along your waistband.
Jason breathes his thanks as Dick answers that heâs with Batman tonight. You feel more courageous than ever standing with Red Hood, Nightwing, and Red Robin. Youâve grown to love the bats and birds, and you know they care about you, too. Since learning their secret identities, youâve noticed the long looks they send you, trying to decide if they should know who you are based on what they can see past the small mask your mother had forged for you. Dianaâs your mother, biological or not, and your Themysciran family is as important to you as your Gotham family.
Batman flies across the sky before landing on the opposite side of the roof from you. You narrow your eyes and ask, âDid he get taller?â
âLet the criminals think so,â Batman rasps as he enters the light.
Damian is perched on his shoulders, his arms hanging as he blinks sleepily, leaning his head against the top of the cowl. Bruceâs gloved hands are wrapped protectively around Damianâs ankles as he moves carefully.
âWho can take him home?â he asks.
âI can,â you offer.
âDoes Wonder Woman know where you are?â
âOf course.â
Bruce nods once, and when he tips toward you, Damian wakes. âAlkmini,â he says. âYour assistance on my Greek mythology essay was mostâŠ.â
You wait for him to finish, but he slumps heavier against Bruce, asleep, and you take him carefully. Damian is incredibly special to you, and it isnât the first time youâve gone out of your way to protect him. You say goodbye to the boys, careful not to look directly at Jasonâs red mask because you swear you can feel his intense gaze on you through the red material.
After you leave, Jason mumbles, â So familiar. I should know by now.â
âHow are the boys?â Diana asks, in her Wonder Woman costume â uniform? You arenât sure of the correct terminology and are too far into training to ask â as she surveys the city.
âTheyâre good,â you answer. âThanks for helping me with the braces. Iâd hate to try to stop a real bullet without the practice.â
âKeep spending time in Gotham and youâll appreciate the training even more.â
You chuckle and prepare to move your arms to deflect projectiles with the armor around your wrists once more.
Several hours after the conclusion of a rough patrol and a text from Dick, you knock on a locked window. Damian looks up from the couch and smiles before he lets you in. He hugs you tightly before stepping back.
âWhereâs Jason?â you inquire, looking around the apartment.
âHis room. You can go see him; I believe heâs sulking again. I donât know if he reread Mr. Darcyâs first proposal or if tonight got to him,â Damian answers.
âThanks.â
At the end of the short hall, you knock and wait for Jason to invite you in. Heâs sitting on the floor, leaning back slightly with his patrol uniform still on, only his helmet and domino mask discarded beside him. You close the door and kneel beside his feet, giving him plenty of room.
âYou know what one of my first memories is?â Jason asks, his head tipped back against the wall, his eyes closed. âWhen I was two or three, a kid washed up in the harbor. I donât remember specifics, but it was a girl. The story stuck with me. I looked into it last night and read that a woman from out of town adopted her and took her away.â
You watch Jason and shift slightly. That was you, but you had no idea Jason knew about it. He opens his eyes and looks at you, smiling as you lose your fight to maintain eye contact and drop your eyes to his chest.
âWhy havenât you told us â me â who you really are?â he asks.
Your voice is soft, but you know Jason hears when you say, âGrowing up, I wasnât allowed to. And then, after that long, it just felt like⊠I guess I thought if I told you then it would be like I didnât trust you before.â
âDo you trust me?â Jason asks.
You notice he didnât even bother to include the rest of his family this time and pass him the lasso. With the end wrapped around your wrist, you say, âI trust you more than anything or anyone. Except my mom, maybe.â
Jason tilts his head, and his tongue runs over his lips quickly before he says, âI wasnât aware this made shy people talk easier. Iâll have to remember that.â He tosses it back to you and places his hands on the floor beside him. âI trust you too, without the lasso.â
âWhyâd you bring up the little girl from so long ago?â you inquire.
âThere was a baby left in an alley tonight. Bruce said heâd look into it, but it just reminded me of that.â
You nod and roll your bottom lip between your teeth.
âYou look so familiar,â he mutters. âEspecially when you do that.â
Carefully, you move closer to Jason. He extends his arm, and you scoot forward until your hip is against his, facing him as his hand settles on your waist.
âNineteen years ago, I was adopted by Wonder Woman,â you begin. âBut, because of who she is, she couldnât just take me in, she had to get permission from the gods.â
âThe gods? Like Zeus, Athena?â Jason interjects.
You nod and continue, âThey gave her permission, and gifted me some of her powers because we were connected and because I was a warrior.â You hold Jasonâs intense gaze as you explain, âI was a warrior because Iâd survived on my own and washed up in Gotham.â
âYou visited with Diana,â Jason realizes. âThatâs why you look so familiar! When Bruce first took me in, Diana would come by sometimes, and she always had a little girl with her.â
You smile, and Jason extends his legs out further. He pulls you against him, brushing his fingers along the bottom of your mask. After you nod, he peels it away from your face. Itâs like heâs seeing you for the first time and the thousandth time, he thinks as he tugs you into his lap.
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner,â you whisper.
âI trust you wholly,â Jason admits. âAnd that scared me. Do you remember playing together once, around Christmas the year after I stole Bruceâs tires?â
âOf course,â you answer as if itâs obvious. Something about having the mask off, being truly seen, makes it easier to admit everything. âHow could I forget the Christmas I fell in love?â
Jason smiles and leans up, wrapping his arms around your waist as his nose taps yours.
âAre you decent?â Damian asks at the door. âI have a question regarding Odysseus and the suitors.â
âIs he reading The Odyssey?â you ask Jason.
âSounds like a question for you,â he responds with a shrug.
âAre you okay? Finding a kid in a position like that canât be easy.â
âI am. Iâll check on her tomorrow, and tonight hasnât been all bad.â
âCome on in, Damian,â you call.
Jason scrambles for your mask, but you catch his wrist and shake your head as you stand from his lap. He pushes himself up beside you, and Damian enters with his nose in the book. When he finishes his question and looks up, his eyes widen.
You answer Damianâs question, but he doesnât seem to hear it before he asks, âWhatâs your name?â
Jason answers with you, and you smile up at him.
âWhatâs that look for?â he inquires.
âIâm going to Themyscira for my birthday pretty soon. Do you want to come with me?â
âWill Diana threaten to kill me?â
âProbably.â
âIâll go,â Damian offers.
âYouâre all invited. But I should probably put Dick out of his misery and tell him that I am who he thinks I am.â
âLetâs take this,â Jason suggests, tugging your Lasso of Truth to pull you closer.

Hi! Can I request how law would react if his partner calls him baby or babe (any pet names) by accident in front of everyone? The crew doesnât really know but they got a feeling theyâre dating
Baby
Pairing: Trafalgar Law x GN!Reader
Warning: Established Relationship, Heart Pirates shenanigans, Soft Law, Reader is stupid in love with Law (as we all are)
You swear you can hear color and see soundâŠor at least you feel like you can.
Pulling an all-nighter working on internal ship repairs seemed like such a good idea in theory. It felt like pure genius on your part, being able to avoid the headache of having to work around your unruly crewmatesâor worse, having to stop completely.
You love them, you really do, but your fellow Heart Pirates are a rowdy bunch. You donât entirely blame them, though. Itâs difficult being stuck in the oceanâs depths for days on end, missing the blinding sun and salty sea airâyou hunger for it just as much as anyone, but when denied, youâd at least like to make certain that the Polar Tang is able to get you all to your next destination in one piece.
All your hard work and good intentions, and yet you had failed to consider one pivotal component: how long it would take to complete your repairs. The hours had passed in the blink of an eye, and much to your surprise, your late-night work had spilled into the early morning hours.
You wonder how Law does it. He spends nights nose-deep in medical texts or hunched over his desk, flipping between scrolls and maps with ease. The dark circles under his eyes are a clear sign that he doesnât get nearly as much sleep as he needs, but he moves and thinks like a fully rested man. Even when you slip into his room in the late hours, mindful of making sure your crewmates donât know where you run off to, you find Law at his desk, lost in that brilliant mind of his.
He makes it look good, but you arenât so sure you can say the same. You trudge down the narrow halls of the Polar Tang like an undead creatureâsluggish and half-alert.
But youâre so close. Nearly done with your work. All you need is just one final push, a little boost to keep you on the mend. You can already taste the creamy milk and rich espresso on your tongue, topped with a dribble of caramel, just for that additional burst of energy. Yes, thatâs exactly what you need.
You feel like you could float into the mess hall if you werenât so worn. You nearly stumble as you push your way inside, avoiding Bepo while he rushes to his seat with Shachi and Penguin in tow. The trio is already deep in an argument that you canât quite make out but know isnât even worth listening to. You swear those three share blood, even if Bepo isnât human.
Ikkaku is already seated, protecting her plate from Hakugan, who still canât seem to grasp the concept of keeping his grubby little hands out of other people's plates, no matter how many times Ikkaku or Jean Bart try to beat it into him.
Others slip in and out of the mess hall, exchanging a kind greeting or snide remark before shuffling to their stations.
You hear Law before you see him, his rich voice carrying through the crowded space as he calmly explains to Uni that the Polar Tang will have to make port soon. You canât help but stare. Even in your hazy, sleep-deprived state, Law is still the most beautiful man youâve ever seen.
Reliable as always, Uni nods before rushing to the control room. Law catches sight of you as you stagger towards the counter. His expression is flat, his lips pulled in a tight line, but you notice the softness in his eyes. No matter how convincing his scowl may be, his eyes are always so tellingâthe singular piece of his soul he canât hide.
He shifts closer, leaving a respectable space so as not to draw attention to you two. âGood morning.â
You yawn the greeting back unceremoniously, and god, you swear you feel your heart stutter when you glimpse the smile heâs trying so hard to hide.
âLate night?â
Your response is a tired hum. A joke sits comfortably on your tongue, but you canât compel yourself to say it. You need your morning boost before you fall face-flat on the floor. You glance up at the cupboard, too tired to struggle.
âBaby,â you call, your voice slightly slurred, âcan you pass me a cup?"
Law reaches above you, finding the mug you always seem to gravitate toâitâs nearly in his hands before he stops suddenly.
He stands as still as a statue, and you know your confusion is evident.Â
The sudden silence that falls over the room doesnât help. You canât make out the usual jokes and jabs shared at the tables. No clattering forks. No loud, obnoxious slurping.
Did you push yourself too far? Is this what sleep-deprivation psychosis feels like?
ââŠbaby?â Penguin questions.
Oh.
Oh shit.
The voices come all at once. A shrill cry from Bepo. Shocked laughter from Jean Bart. Shachi and Penguin yell over each other, triumphantly claiming they knew it. The only person who seems wholly unaffected is Ikkaku, who shoots you a knowing grin before returning her attention to her plate.
You glance at Law, who glares at his crew as a multitude of questions are fired his way. Each inquiry is louder than the last, and voices begin to blend as your crewmates shout over each other, desperately trying to get to the bottom of your secret relationship.
Maybe itâs the sleep-deprived delirium that makes the situation funnier than it actually is, because you laugh. Inelegant and uncontrolled. You shoot Law an apologetic glance, attempting to look as guilty as you feel, but from the way your shoulders shake and your lip quivers, you know you look anything but.
You expect his signature scowlâthe look that makes marines blood run coldâbut you receive something far sweeterâthat surprised, uncertain smile that makes Law look years younger. His irritation has a habit of fading when you laugh, as if your joy is contagious.
He ignores the cries of his crew, finally passing you your cup.
âSorry,â you whisper, trying to sound regretful, but your voice sounds far too cherry, laced with laughter.
âDonât be.â Thereâs a devious glint in his golden eyes, and you hear the tell-tale sound of his room being created before you even see the blue film that contains it. âYou have to deal with them now.â
You swear you hear that snarky chuckle of his, but heâs gone too quick, replaced with a crumpled piece of paper. Thereâs a moment of silence, a temporary peace, before all eyes fall on you, and the questions spill forth once more.
A/N: I WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR TAKING SO LONG TO FINISH THIS REQUEST!! Despite that, I hope you enjoyed!

The Brutality (and some censoring) Of The Rumbar Deaths.
Similar to my piece on Yorki and his lil sickness, this is again just something that haunts me constantly and is honestly something I donât see anyone else talking about. Maybe this is because I have Rumbar Pirates autism. The deaths of the Rumbar Pirates are often thought to just be the snippet we see during their final moments, however Oda paints a much darker picture, with such dark hues the anime had to censor some of this. More than just Binks Sake happened to these men.
To begin, I am going to introduce you all to a certain Rumbar Pirate. Pirates.
This is Madaisuki! He has a twin brother named Madawadasuki Mizuta!
These Mizuta boys are named this because they are the japanese pun of âI love DOTS!â and âDots ainât half bad!â We know they were young, and that they wanted to be just like Brook. (I will go over these statements a bit later.) They wore matching clothing, mirroring one another as some twins do, having a tight bond. We already know their candles were snuffed out too short, but do you know how this happened to each? Madawadasuki is shown in the Binkâs Sake flashback, blood pooling on his temple and matting some of his hair. He looks tired, but with a smile, plays on with the other remaining crew. That is the key word here, remaining. There were hundreds of men on this ship yet THIS is what we see surrounding Brook on the deck? Where are the rest. THAT is where Madaisuki comes in.Â
Madaisuki does not die on screen, but his body, just the body, is gruesome enough that the anime had to censor it. When we find the young man, he is in one of the off rooms, looks to be the dining area, thrown onto the floor with his arms outstretched, with his hair still attached to the skull.
This is not the reason behind the censoring, no, the reason is the cause of death.
Plunged into his skull and back, pinning his body to the floor with his jaw still open, are his own weapons. His own swords pin his body to the floor, so even if he somehow survived the attack, he could not get up, however with your own blade through your brain case and into the blood spattered floor below you, that is not much of an option. Those swords.. they also are made to mirror YORKIâS. They both wanted to be just like their Captains.

This leaves a few things open for the reader to take in. Why is he tucked away in an off room like this? Well, it means the battle either continued into these rooms, not just on deck, which is more than likely shown by the shattered mirrors and doors in the bedrooms and hallways we see, or poor Madaisuki was cornered, overpowered, and butchered.
In any case, this means his brother either also saw this and continued to smile and sing for Laboon, or held a hope that somehow, his twin was just somewhere else, tucked away to die in peace. How many other men died this way, for we see bedroom doors torn off hinges and blood spattering the walls.
Time doesnât do that, a butchering does.
This is just one body, one upon hundreds, we know this because of a line Franky states so casually I am unsure if the anime added it; âWe could not carry them all, we buried them here. The weight was too much for the Sunny to take.â
The weight was too much for the Sunny to take.
How many men died, because those multiple upon multiple coffins were not filled with bodies, but skulls. Only skulls.
If the ship cannot carry it, how do we expect BROOK?? He must hold grief for he was acting Captian, these things on his head alone, and knowing he failed his partner, my god, that must ache. To know you created widows, fatherless children, families who will never know if their little boys or men or partners or fathers would come home. No closure, only Brook, and the poison that caused the remaining light-hearted musicians to bleed out in their little heap.
When Brook picks up the skull of Madaisuki, a memory comes to mind. Perhaps not a recent one, for he knew them for many years, but one that stood out to him. One Oda chose for us to see as a representation of Brookâs thoughts;
âYouâre awesome, Brook! Can you teach me to swordfight like you?â
We see the body, with his own weapons used against him, holding his corpse in place with a hole blasted through his brain. His polka dots he adored are spattered as well, torn where his ribcage was cut open. Brook failed him. He failed them all, in his eyes, not the viewer or actuality. And this breaks my heart.
Update 1.0
Absolutely I think he does have his.. odd crew moments/interactions.
Sanji at the right angle, asking for something and the response is a slip up of âyes, my Captain!â In such a tone that Sanji could mistake himself as more than a crewmate in Brookâs eyes.
Somedays they finds the skeleton speaking to himself, small quolms or questions, asking to an invisible force in silence.
âJohn, how did you make your coffee again?â
âMadaisuki, how do you do this..?â
Some nights, heâs found over the beds, absent in all human aspects but dead, mute and upsettingly still.
When Usopp asks, after minutes of motionless, creeping anxiety, why does he just stand, why does he watch?
âI want to make sure youâre breathing! It means youâre real.â
