I love the idea of Tsu'tey and Spider

Like Tsu'tey is more accepting of the sky people now, due to Jake, but it's more of a tolerance than anything.

Then there is Spider.

I'd imagine that Tsu'tey couldn't help but start to see himself in Spider, despite the differences, when it comes to the boy's loyalty, bravery, and love for the People.

Little Spider running after Tsu'tey whenever he's not playing with the Sully kids, trying to copy him (Spider would definitely try to style his hair like Tsu'teys), and constantly pestering him for stories. It's annoying at first no doubt but Tsu'tey is familiar with it due to being an older brother.

Eventually, Tsu'tey would be a bit concerned that the adults responsible for Spider are just....letting him run around the Pandoran jungle without supervision at such a young age. Like even ignoring the dangers that the wildlife would pose to Spider, all it would take is for him to trip and his mask could break or come off.

Then Spider starts emulating him physically. Styling his hair like Tsu'tey, painting his blue stripes in a pattern similar to Tsu'tey's own, and trying to dress somewhat similar to him too.

Spider is like a duckling trailing after Tsu'tey.

Tsu'tey noticed after a while that people look to him when it comes to things with Spider, even the sky people seemed content to just leave the care and parenting of Spider to Tsu'tey. It isn't until something big happens, like Spider getting injured, that it's really brought to his attention.

tsu'tey is made a babysitter by Eywa, and by his nature as a big brother; always hypervigilant of the much smaller, more fragile, human than most around them.

he finds himself checking on spider when he's off in the woods, not Jake. he's the one watching the kid play, making sure spider isn't hurt by his larger siblings, not Jake. he finds himself checking spiders mask and canisters, again, not Jake.

he worries for spiders safety, airing his worries to both Jake and Neytiri, but also to Mo'at. the former say that he's a tough kid and that they trust him to be safe (as if that will defend him from falls, trips, predators, or getting lost), the latter, advises him to leave it be (for now) that Eywa has a purpose for everything, including this.

to get a child killed, he thinks, for just a moment, before he feels a familiar little body smack against his legs. no, to raise a proper warrior, he swears he hears a woman say behind him.

and so he reluctantly takes spider under his wing (spider had already wormed himself there, but tsu'tey finally accepted it) and he gets to know the kid; he's a spunky little shit, but behind his spitfire mouth and excessive energy, was an empathetic, loyal, and brave boy who put his family and The people before himself; who treated Pandora with more respect then he did himself at times; who treated each creature he met as an equal (he didn't fear even the mightiest of creatures, even if he know they could kill him, he instead treated then with the utmost respect, and knew when to turn tail to not piss anything off). tsu'tey came to love the little shit, even if it meant he worried about him more and more every day. He taught him to make his own spears and arrows, carved him his own hunting blade (he had a sad little), and helped maintain the bow he cared with Neteyam. when spider starts painting himself, he mimics Tsu'tey's stripe patterns, staring intently in that creepy but endearing way that kids just see into your soul. he eventually just helps him do it, cause it takes spider forever and he is impatient (and it makes spider smile).

after spider almost cuts his eye out with his hunting blade, tsu'tey shaves the sides of spider's head every couple weeks, and though he has little control over the fact that his hair was locked so young, he gives spider beads to put on the front few locs of hair so he can copy him. he knew better then to try and convince him otherwise, spider was determined to look like him, there was little he could actually do to keep it from happening, might as well make it easier (and safer) than to let spider try and do it himself.

during meetings or really just about anywhere, he typically keeps the kid next to him, hand on his head (or carrying him around when he was younger). when any sort of fight or violence happened, spider knew he could tuck himself behind Tsu'tey and he would be safe. he knew he had someone looking out for hm, even when he felt alone.

within a few years, spider is tsu'tey's human copy, and a trained warrior under tsu'tey's teaching and command. he was extremely skilled, especially considering he had the disadvantage of being human, he manages pretty well for himself...

though it does help that the local fauna seem to trust him and show less violence then they do to the na'vi. tsu'tey still has nightmares of the day he found spider napping in the crook of a tree, a viperwolf resting only a few feet with her cubs. he still doesn't know (he definitely does) why she didn't attack the sleeping meal, why she entrusted him with her babies while she herself took a break to rest in the leafy alcove of the forest. (it's definitely Eywa, and he's definitely stressed, and he definitely can't do that again cause it may just kill him to panic that intensely... though he will admit, being able to get within feet of a mama viperwolf to scoop the sleeping and only receiving a short growl, was kinda cool) he went straight to jake after that, telling him that he should cherish the gift he was given.

So, your Clear Sky post is absolutely horrifying, but it was very needed, so thank you. What are your general thoughts on tackling his abuse for the AU? Like you've said, pretending he's a good guy is not the way to go, but are you planning on toning down *some* of the situations, just to give some of the cats a break? Clear Sky is a very realistic depiction of abusers, but that seems to come across even without victim number 25, yknow? I'm very curious about how you'd like to go about this.

My most recent big change was bringing Slash back into the fold, because I realized that it was actually a disservice to not address where DOTC's themes dip into Colonialism. It's a hard topic, and I'm still trying to work out the details, but I realized it was important.

With how BB!DOTC is such a MASSIVE overhaul, to properly address abuse and the ways it impacts you, ableism and its violence, and xenophobia broadly, a huge reworking of Slash belonged here too. He's one of the greatest examples of how badly WC demonizes non-Clanborn cats. I shouldn't dance around it.

That's what I need to do with Skystar.

MANY of his victims have happier endings than canon, though. Bumble is one of the most famous, bumped up into a major character and directly responsible for the formation of ThunderClan. Bright Storm is taking most of Gray Wing's roles. Birch and Alder are getting examined, with either a father who wants his kids back or Milkweed as the mate of Misty.

A lot of people will die because of him, even more will be hurt, but I see BB!DOTC as a story about victims and survivors.

Others might grab POVs here and there, but as a response to canon which I feel is Clear Sky's story told in many parts, I center this rewrite around Thunder Storm. The path of kindness he marches down, with love and with anger, and the people he helps.

So BB!Star Flower...

Previously I was playing her as ENTIRELY just manipulating Clear Sky. She was loyal to One Eye and trying to get at Skystar to bleed him dry for 8 lives to sacrifice; but connected to Thunderstar over recognizing him as a victim who deserves her idea of justice. So, she offers Thunderstar the final kill, so her father will be grateful to him and he'll get power AND the death of his abuser.

(When Thunderstar looks upon Skystar, pathetic and neutralized down to one life, he thinks about the collateral damage that will descend upon the forest if he accepts the deal. He decides that he has found the line between Justice and Justification. Of course he wants the power to make his enemies cower, protect his people, and eliminate Clear Sky so he never threatens them again; that's not the problem.

He can still do these things. He wouldn't NEED the power of a war god to do so.

But if One Eye returns, he will be endlessly hungry, ruthlessly dedicated to revenge, and set out to devour the whole forest. Everything would get worse, and even more people he loves would die. It's where his desire to destroy a monster would lead to him BECOMING one.)

Even on its face, it was previously missing an element. There's a step between "Starf decides to bring One Eye back" and "Starf offers Thunderstar the final kill" that was bare. This is the piece that was missing-- That she, herself, is trying to reach out to the only person who's ever really understood her.

But more importantly... I do feel this topic belongs here, in BB!DOTC. Abuse is a MAJOR theme. SKYSTAR is a monster already. He's harmed two wives in BB (Bright Storm and Falling Cry) and played toxic games with all three kits (Thunder Storm, Pale Sky, Tiger Sky).

And I'd avoid Star Flower being abused... why? Because it's uncomfortable to confront the pattern that Clear Sky displays? That in-canon, he tries to cut all his victims into the same ideal shape, from Storm to Thunder to Star Flower? ...it should be uncomfortable. Everything that I described in Clear Sky Is A Monster is rooted in the same desire for control, power, and punishment most abusive people share, he just happens to be a severe example.

Yes. That includes how he treats his child and romantic partners. The parallels that are drawn between Starf and Thunder are there because he wants power in the form of obedience. Starf replaces the son as a narrative award for his "growth" of not killing random people anymore for a while.

A cookie cutter is an effective tool because IT ONLY MAKES ONE SHAPE.

You know what's more uncomfortable? Reading canon!DOTC and seeing someone who hurt you reflected almost perfectly in the character the writers think did nothing wrong. Because of "good intentions" that were not there.

I will say though, just to be clear; I don't see a purpose in being more than PG-13 about serious topics for this project. I promise none of my intentions have changed. Nothing will be more graphic or gorey than canon WC-- just more intentional.

I'm keeping the sacrifice because it's dope. No one is taking this from me. Girl Moment: Killed her awful husband 8 times to count as 8 sacrifices and offered the last life to her buddy as a show of good will. How else do you make friends outside of high school

But I know now that Star Flower NEEDS to keep the canon fact she has very little agency, UNTIL that moment she snaps.

She's sacrificing one abuser to try and bring back a bigger, badder one, because in spite of everything, her father One Eye always made her feel safe. Even though he promised her off to Skystar, and expected her to be willing to die for him. She's followed every command, every order, past the death of his mortal vessel.

The first, and only, selfish choice she's ever made was in reaching out to Thunderstar to offer him the power of her father.

Thunderstar's Justice is a story about a Thunder Storm at the pinnacle of his arc, how the survivors of his Clan are settling into the new normal after the carnage of The First Battle, how Skystar's arrogance brings a violent god to the Forest... and the connection Thunderstar makes with the daughter of a monster.

On the topic of Raphael and him "being bad in bed".

Okay I'm only ever going to talk about this at length once and then never again. I've been avoiding talking about it until now because bringing it up always just seems to keep this topic in circles and it becomes an endless pit of nothing.

First of all, I know most of the time (like maybe 70% of the time) it's for the lolz. I get it. Hell, Raphael fans will be the FIRST to quip about this.

BUT

For those taking it seriously one way or another... It becomes such old hat VERY fast.

Those who use it as a jab towards Raphael havers are... Kinda dumb. Because it's like... Okay, and? You act as if somehow negates the entirety of his character somehow just because "HAR HAR HANDSOME DEVIL MAN IS BAD AT SEX" and it's so... vapid and boring? Also it seems a lot of people keep thinking "bad at sex" = JUST that he finishes too fast and nothing else but they seem to forget that the player character came up with that insult on the spot (rather than seeing it as a commentary about his pure selfishness and where it stems from). Haarlep is also a bias source. There's a semblance of resentment from them AND they're a damn incubus. EVERYONE'S terrible in bed in comparison (have you seen Tav? Little shit just lays there like a sack of potatoes during the Haarlep scene). This isn't me saying "Oh it means Raphael is terrific in bed because Haarlep's word cannot be trusted". HELL, no. Quite the opposite, actually. I'm saying "okay... What can I glean from that set of information?"

I feel like this goes for Raphael havers too who have this conversation. I feel like many tend to fall into this trap of odd desparity when they realise that "oh no our magnificent hot man is bad at sex" and somehow treat it as if it's forever a caveat and somehow negates the ENTIRETY of Raphael as a complex character. My first reaction when I got this information during House of Hope was laughing and then going "mmm that's so interesting and adds such a great layer to this already amazing character. Where else can I take this to". In fact, House of Hope as a quest does SO much in adding all these tidbits that make Raphael not just another boring, all knowing, god like, ineffible character. It made me love and appreciate his character even MORE. instead of going in circles and lamenting in how this is somehow "the worst thing ever", I think it's way more fun to explore it and delve into where the root of his narcissism and self esteem issues come from. The dichotomy and complexes of his character. There's SO much to talk about there and yet we're still just stuck on "haha devil man is a bottom and bad in bed" (which is another ridiculous thing btw because people seem to misconstrue bottoms as JUST being submissive. Y'all need to be more open minded 😂).

Apologies if this came off as ranty/condescending maybe. But it's coming from someone who's just minding her own business but have to see a variation of that line CONSTANTLY in the notes/tags on my art/gif posts and as I said... It gets so old REALLY fast. Like please be more imaginative than this, I beg of you. 😭

I like to headcanon Shin as a hardcore atheist (complete opposite of Hiyori who's a very religious person). He can't see himself believing in a higher power, not when his plights and tragedies and suffering were always met with indifference by whatever higher power may exist. But not by Sou Hiyori-- his guardian angel all throughout high school. His protector and his tormentor. His saviour and his captor. Someone he devoutly followed for years after having found him. Someone he looks up to; someone superior (always "Hiyori" while he's still "Shin", never his equal). Someone whose teachings he takes to heart and lives by. Someone he seeks out instinctively in his hour of desperation and need. Someone whose hand-me-down he wears dutifully around his neck to keep him close at all times. Someone who will praise him for his obedience and dependency and punish him for his defiance and independence. Someone he loves and respects and fears all at once. The moon can't shine without the sun, and Hiyori all but shone upon him when he couldn't find the light within himself. Shin doesn't believe in God, but loving Hiyori is the closest he's ever gotten to religion. I think it's poetic, in a way.

I've been reading the Percy Jackson books for the first time over the past two weeks! Just finished "The Battle of the Labyrinth" last night (which btw is my favorite of the series so far!!)

I've reached season 5 on my CSI rewatch and I'm a few episodes past "Swap Meet", where a woman is murdered after attending a swing party with other couples from the neighbourhood. Near the end of the episode there's a moment that made me jump from my seat:

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two cups. He hands her a cup of tea.)

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - BRASS' OFFICE]

Erin Brady: Everybody fantasizes about other people. (She glances at Grissom.)

Even you, Mr. Grissom. A neighbor, a friend ... girl at the office.

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - HALLWAY]

(The door opens. Paul Brady walks out of the hallway. Erin Brady walks out into the hallway. Sara is sitting in the hallway chair watching them. She watches as they meet and kiss.)

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two culps. He hands her a cup of tea.)

Right after Erin ends her sentence with 'girl at the office', the first time Sara and Grissom meet again, he brings her tea. This might be an innocent interaction but to me it seemed like a nod to this relationship they have where both are into each other, know about the other's feelings, but can't/won't do anything about it (although Sara has kind of given Grissom an ultimatum). I don't know if it was intentional - I'm guessing it is, because I picked it up immediately. I might or might not have squealed in delight.
