I'm thinking about a rowing AU for my farmer Keaton and Elliott and god do I miss my rowing days lmao

I am just insane about the idea of slightly older coxswain Keaton and cocky young upstart Elliott, like they drive each other nuts but they're so into each other, it's just a whole thing.

Like Elliott rows in stroke (so he's the one that sets the pace and whatnot) which means he's right beside where the cox sits, so they're staring at each other the whole time, and I can just imagine them lovingly antagonising each other, and then once they win their race (because of course they will), Elliott sits up at the top of the slide and Keaton just about has to get in his lap to kiss him but they make out until another boat starts shouting at them to get the fuck out of the way.

And then the classic throwing the cox in the (insert body of water) after winning, I'm just imagine after they get out of the water Elliott picks Keaton up to kiss him, and then Keaton is like "why are you carrying me towards the edge of the dock", and Elliott is just like >:3 before tossing him in the water. Keaton emerges hissing and spitting like an enraged cat and immediately launches himself back onto the dock to grab Elliott and drag him in with. They try to drown each other for a second before they just start making out.

Also, I need Keaton to oogle Elliott's bulge in his rowsuit. Because come on. If you've seen a rowsuit, you know what I'm talking about. They leave nothing to the imagination.

Tw: um… torture, blood, toxic relationships, reader is kinda held captive and Helel’s sick ass thinks cutting them open will prove his love. This is short tho.

Helel chuckles as he enters your cell, hands cupping your blood stained face. “Oh sweetheart..” he wastes no time shaking you awake, seeing your eyes slowly opening, exhaustion evident on your features. “Miss me?” You sneer, despite the torture you just endured, you have no intention of fueling the morningstars ego. “Screw you.” Your voice is raspy and barely audible, but just enough that Helel can hear it.

“What did you say to me?” He asks, hand smacking across your face. “I said, screw you.” He’s silent after you respond for a moment, before grabbing your chin and squeezing it just hard enough to hurt. “I think it’s best that I keep you from running your pretty little mouth.” He laughs, taking off his glove and shoving it into your mouth.

Immediately, you taste iron, your own blood. This causes you to gag, eyes watering as the taste makes you Ill, causing Helel to laugh like a maniac. “Oh, (Name), do you want it out?” Desperate, you quickly nod, to which Helel delivers another harsh smack across your face. “Use your words, darling.” You try as hard as you can, desperately trying to get any words out, tears streaming down your face as the nausea worsens.

“Oh, my love, it seems like you don’t want it taken out after all.” He laughs as he watches the way your eyes widen and you yell unintelligibly, tears streaming down your face as he turns away, rummaging through a bucket of items on the other side of your cell. Eventually, he comes back with a scalpel. “I wonder, would the inside of you look as pretty as the outside?”

You scream and try to move away, struggling against your restraints. “Oh, now now..” Helel smirks, holding the scalpel close to your stomach. “Hold still, won’t you? It hurts less if you stay still.” Despite your previous disobedience, you’re more than willing to behave now, closing your eyes and shivering as you feel the cold metal approaching the skin of your stomach.

Slowly, painfully, you feel it digging into your skin, causing you to scream in pain. “Shhh.. you’re doing a good job..” Helel whispers, free hand running through your hair as he continues cutting into your stomach. “Oh, how I wish you could see how beautiful your insides are, (Name)..” As he continues, you can see your life flashing before your eyes, muffled sobs and pleas for him to stop escaping from your mouth.

“Hold still, (Name)” Helel whispers, staring at the way blood drips from your wounds, hands reaching in to open it up. “Gorgeous, your insides are gorgeous..” he laughs, feeling the way your hands find their way to his free one, squeezing it tightly as if he was not the one putting you through this nightmare. “They’re all mine, every part of you is mine..” he plants a kiss on your cheek.

“Look at me, sweetheart..” he whispers, grinning as you open your eyes, instinctively looking down towards where your wounds should be before he stops you. “No no, look up here.” He gently lifts your chin and has you look up at him as he slowly sews up the wounds he had made, wrapping them up afterwards. “You did such a good job…”

You feel his hands reach in and pull the glove out of your mouth, the way he slowly unchains you and picks you up, stroking your hair. “There there..” he pushes your head into his shoulder so you can cry into it, sitting you on his lap. “Oh darling, you know I do this because I love you right?” Helel’s voice sends shivers down your spine, but in a way you find yourself comforted by the way he holds you, despite what he had just done.

“You’re mine, (Name).” He mutters, planting a kiss on your forehead. “Every single part of you is mine.”

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.

like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

I understand and agree with a lot of the frustrations about the shortcomings of Inquisition as a story. but sometimes when I hear people complain about the chosen one narrative in it I do want to just be like... you know it's a deconstruction of the concept more than anything, right. the inquisitor isn't actually chosen by anything except stumbling into the wrong (right?) room at the right (wrong?) time because they like, heard a noise or whatever. or if you think they are chosen, as many do in-universe, that's something you have to take on faith, the maker-or-whoever moves in mysterious ways indeed-style. the Inquisitor isn't actually a Destined Chosen One, they're a Just Some Guy in a fancy hat, self-delusions of grandeur to taste as you'd prefer.

a running thread that goes through all of the personal quests of the companions is the concept of a comforting lie vs. an uncomfortable truth, upholding old corrupt structures vs. disrupting them, and the role of faith in navigating that. (blackwall the warden vs. thom rainier the liar and murderer. hissrad vs. the iron bull, or is that the other way around? cassandra and the seekers -- do we tell the truth about what we find, even if it means dismantling the old order of the world? and so on.) and your inquisitor IS at the same time a comforting lie (a necessary one, in dark times? the game seems to ask) and an uncomfortable truth (we are the result of random fickle chance, no protective hand is held over the universe, it's on us to make a better world because the maker sure as hell won't lift a divine finger to help anyone, should he against all odds exist). faith wielded for political power... where's the point that it crosses the line into ugliness? is it before it even begins? what's the alternative? will anyone listen to the truth, if you tell it?

interesting how you also get a mix of companion agency in this -- you have characters like dorian who ALWAYS choose one side of the comforting lie vs. uncomfortable truth dichotomy. he will always make up his own mind to go back to tevinter and try to dismantle the corruption of the old system no matter what you say, or how you try to influence him. meanwhile iron bull is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum -- so psychologically trapped and mangled, caught in an impossible spiritual catch-22, that his sense of identity is left entirely to you and your mercy. you cannot change dorian in any way that matters; you can be his friend or not, support him or not, but he is whole no matter what. you are given incredible and potentially destructive-to-him power over bull's soul. it's really cool (and heartbreaking) to think about.

this is a game about how history will eat you even while you're still alive, and shape you into whatever image it pleases to serve it, and for all your incredible power right now you are powerless in the face of the gravitational force of time -- of more than time, of History. you won't recognize yourself in what History will make of you, because you belong to it now. you don't belong to yourself anymore and you never will again. the further you were from what it needs from you to begin with, the more you will find yourself distorted in its funhouse mirror. (why hello there inquisitor ameridan, same hat!)

and to me this is so much the core of what Dragon Age is about right from the Origins days -- how and by whom history gets written, the inherent unreliable narration of it all. I hope you like stories, Inquisitor. You are one now.

I do think it's probably still the weakest of the games narratively, and it's hampered by its structure and bloated systems. but I also find it disingenous to say that there's nothing deeper or actually interesting going on with it, thematically. if you're willing to engage with it there is Some Real Shit going on under the high fantasy-tinted surface.
