Love the recs. I'm a little out of my element since I'm normally a death metal chode, but I am a big fan of Feminazgul and I'd like to add to the discussion.

So for the uninitiated, Feminazgul is what it sounds like: woman-focused rabm with Tolkien themes. They're part of the Asheville scene* and they fucking rule.

I think Feminazgul are objectively good rabm but I'd recommend them to any instrument-head; Margaret Killjoy has a habit of inventing new ones, usually crafted by herself in accordance with Pagan beliefs. And it's not like I'm an expert, but she's making instruments I haven't even heard of. From the credits on the Awenden/Feminazgul split:

If any of those pique your curiosity, I've linked them to Facebook posts** where Margaret goes through how she made them. There's so much going on it's easy to miss that there's theremin in their music too.

And if you're still here, I think it bears mention: if you love women then you should hate the patriarchy. We're all held back by these gender-based power dynamics, but no one is harmed by equality. If you want to leave the patriarchy in the past, then you've gotta tune in to the bands who are calling for a change.

The Ranki-Baas are an alien species from the Andromeda Galaxy. Seen as a barbarian race by most of the universe, the Ranki-Baas didn't develop space travel on their own but had it introduced to them by visitors. However, their resource-limited homeworld made them an unattractive prospect for invaders and traders alike. Ranki-Baas culture is simple in its aesthetic tastes - making things for mostly utilitarian purposes and avoiding ornamentation or art-for-art's sake. The main exception is in their songs, which are renowned abroad, even by those who dismiss other aspects of their culture. Singing is extremely important to them - in fact, several wars have been fought solely because a tribal chief or two wanted a venue to showcase a new acapella war chant or the like. They each have two throats, which aid in their ability to harmonize. 

Ranki-Baas only have one sex, with each member having both male and female features. In a mating scenario, both participants tend to give birth. The have live births, but the young are soon after suspended in nutrient-rich mud until they reach adolescence, when they emerge healthy and strong. Ranki-Baas have expandable throats, like the bullfrog of Earth, with are used in threat displays. Their "horns" are actually the upper canine tusks, which grow upward and pierce through their skin. 

Inspired by the Goblins/Orcs from the Rankin/Bass Tolkien movies. I always liked their designs (even though they're not remotely book-accurate) and they always had the best songs. Their gestation period is based on the infamous "Orc Pods" from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies.

I love that whenever the animated Hobbit movie is brought up, it’s collectively agreed that Down Down to Goblin Town is the best song in the movie.

Went back and finished an older WIP: Pictured here are the Bassist (Milo "Big Sandy" Sanderson) and Drummer (Rin Gemel) of the ska band Two Minutes of Pipe- taken from the inner case art of their 2001 EP Competitive Jaywalking. Not pictured are its Trumpeteer (Anthony Barozzi) and Keyboardist (Justice-Of-The-Peace)

While the group has now mostly disbanded, they still get together to practice or play local events when they can find time.

Out getting Malasadas with some of the Team!

My Sableyes, Goblin and Pyrite, aren't the biggest fans because they'd rather eat my evolutionary stones or some particularly shiny rocks or coins they find on the ground (I had to stop them once because they found a stray Gimmighoul and tried to eat their coin, poor thing), but my darling Nemophila- Nemo for short, my shiny Sylveon, loves munching on these things almost as much as Ace and Bass do.
