PoliZ's WIP Update - 28 Aug 2024
Another productive writing week!  I touched four fics (1 new & 3 WIPs)  and wrote a total of  2930  words.
On Ao3, I posted:
Chapter One of  Love is Like a Muscle (and you make me want to flex) - WinterIron mutual pining turns smutty.
Operation Sun and Surf -  Tony & Avengers team-as-family one shot with touches of angst.
On Tumblr I posted:
A Symbol of Devotion - Stony one shot - friends to something more.
I’m juggling  20+  active/semi-active WIPs with my current  deadline being the Tony Stark This or That event which runs til the end of August.
See  below cut for what I’m working on/planning to work on - arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc.  As always, feel free to send me   prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding  any of these projects  or any other WIPs I’ve got out there.   Interaction really helps feed the Muse and keep me motivated!
Hot Bucky Summer 2024 [HBS_R2] (Ends 31 Aug)
More fun from the @buckybarnesevents folks - this time weekly challenges to create (usually NSFW) Bucky-centric fanworks!   Thanks to plenty of cross-filling with other events  (I’m looking at you, July Break Bingo)  I’ve submitted something for the first eleven weeks and am working on one more with a vague idea for the final week - here’s hoping time & inspiration hold out!
* Week 12 - August 17th - August 23rd  – “What should I wear?” + Nothing -  Posted Chapter One of  Love is Like a Muscle (and you make me want to flex) on Friday.    WinterIron massage therapy (Tony getting his hands on Bucky) leading to a  happy ending. It came in at 1200 words and  crossed over  with BaBB August: Body Worship, BBB K1 - Tony Stark's Workshop.
* Week 13 (August 24th - 30th) -  FREE WEEK + Optional Prompts: Mutual Masturbation  –  Chapter Two of Love is Like a Muscle (and you make me want to flex)  is written and will post Friday.  It’s coming in at 1024 words and crosses over with my TSTOT Row 3: Lab Sex and  WIB N2 - Mutual Pining  squares.
Tony Stark This or That  [TSTOT_24] (Ends 31 Aug 2024)
I signed up late and then promptly forgot I had a card - so am tackling this 8-row card with the hopes of getting it at least halfway done by the end of the month.  I’ve made that goal, and might try to squeeze in one more fill before Saturday ends!
* Row 3: Lab Sex - see HBS Week 13 above
* Row 7: Beach Day - Posted  Operation Sun and Surf - a crossover with a previous Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF266 Great Expectations]  & my TSB K2 - Miscommunication square.  Tony rents a beach house in hopes of getting the Avengers together for a bit of team bonding;  things don’t quite go as planned.  It came in at 835 words.
Build-A-Bucky Bingo [BaBB_R1] (Ends 31 Oct 2024)
Another fun year-long  event from the folks at  @buckybarnesevents!  Each month there’s a list of prompts and you choose (at least) one  each month for your card!  At thirty-two  fills and about two months to go, I seem to be going a bit overboard …. 😁
* May:  Bucky’s Trigger Words -  combined this with a previous  Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF251 Out There] for Just To Live One Day Out There - a Winter Soldier self-reflective ficlet. It came in at 312 words and will get posted to Ao3 Real Soon.
* August: Body Worship - see HBS: Week 12 above.
WinterIron Bingo Round 2  [WIB_R2] (Ends 16 Dec 2024)
Signups are still open for pre-made cards for Round Two of this super-fun bingo event! I have seventeen  fills and zero WIPs at the moment - setting this aside for the moment, as I have other time-sensitive events going.
* Iron Soldier (One Bingo, One Fill) - looking at combining my Column B prompts: Matchmaker, Bucky Riding Tony, Stark Gala, Inside Joke and Threesome.  Still working on a plot - if you have any suggestions/want-to-sees - let me know!
* I3 - Car Sex -  Have a fun ficlet in mind for this - some of the dialogue & such already worked out in my head.
*I4 - SHIELD HQ - Finally posted  Fathers Don’t Know Best  to Ao3 this morning.  A crossover with Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF245 You Never Cared, it’s a No Powers AU with Bucky working as an analyst at SHIELD who stumbles across a late night visitor to the lobby.  It came in at 410 words.
* N1 - Hair Pulling Kink -  thanks to a fun prompt from @scottxlogan  - I filled this square with Untangling Their Attraction - where Tony’s offer of assistance leads to mutual kink discovery (not as racy as it might sound).  It’s coming in at 544 words and will post to Ao3 before this event is over.
* N2 - Mutual Pining - see HBS Week 13 above.
* N5 - "I'm here for you."  - Possibly the next chapter of  Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion ?
* O3 - Love Confession - Circling back around to Chapter Seven of  A Little Bit Carried Away - where Pepper learns about the impulsive offer Tony made to Bucky after they spent the night together.   It’s drafted at  1029 words and will cross over with TSB K3 - Pepper Potts and my pJBB C1_A1 - "Promise me you won't get mad."  prompt.  Slated to post on 9 Sep.
Bucky Barnes Bingo - Round Six [BBB - R6]  (Ends 31 Mar)
This amazing bingo event from the folks over at @buckybarnesbingo is back!  I have twelve  fills with one WIP at the moment, but a couple  more crossovers planned.
* K1 - Tony Stark's Workshop - see HBS Week 12 above.
* K4 - Last Times/Farewells - combined this with a previous  Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF257 Count The Days ] for  Short-Timing It - a pre-war (just barely) Bucky & Steve (Stucky if you squint) ficlet. It came in at 313 words and will post to Ao3 before the event is over.
Tony Stark Bingo - Mark VIII [TSB_R8]  (Ends 31 May)
This amazing bingo event from the folks over at @tonystarkbingo is back! Late signups will start next month if you want to join in on the fun!  I have  four  squares filled and one WIP - I need to plan out more crossovers!
* T1 - Watching Helplessly -  Posted Stranded Among the Stars  to Tumblr on Friday as a crossover with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF265 Galaxies Away]. It’s a Nebula & Tony ficlet set on the ship - it came in at 345 words and will get posted to Ao3 before the event ends.
* R4 - Bartender - Got inspired by another song to start Some Other Beginning’s End - Tony’s a bartender dealing with an a-hole patron (Brock) and his just-broken-up-with boyfriend (Bucky).  It’s sitting at 1028  words and I plan to cross over with my  pJBB  C2_A2 - "You deserve someone who makes you happy."  square. I may try to squish a few other squares in before I’m done.
* K2 - Miscommunication - see TSTOT Row 7: Beach Day above
* K3 - Pepper Potts -  see WIB O3 - Love Confession above
* K5 - Misunderstandings - see HBS Week 10 above.
Hawkeyes Bingo [HB_R2] (Ends TBD)
Working on this  Tumblr event - got a 3x3 card and am looking forward to creating more  Clint-centric content and trying my hand at a bit of  Kate Bishop fic as well!
* A3 - Awkward Flirting – this might be a good entry into my first femslash fic with Kate/Yelena?
* C1 - Magic -  Combined this with a previous Flash Fiction Friday prompt  [#FFF259 House of Cards]   for   Keep a Steady Hand.  Clint notices Bucky getting frustrated with a task and offers to help.  It came in at 632 words and will post to Ao3 possibly later this month.
Post July Break Bingo 2024  [pJBB_24] (Ends 30 Jun 2025)
I requested two 2x3 cards for this  Discord-server only event from @julybreakbingo  – so if you want to join in the fun, let me know and I’ll try to get you an invite!  I have two fics in progress and need to figure out some more crossovers.
* C1_A1 - "Promise me you won't get mad." - see WIB * O3 - Love Confession
* C2_A2 - "You deserve someone who makes you happy."  -  see TSB R4 - Bartender.
Warm and Fluffy   Bingo  [WFB]   (no end date)
Eight fills on my card, courtesy of   @warmandfluffybingocards  - need to try for another crossover or two!
* I2 - Vulnerable Drunk - matched this up with a previous Flash Fiction Friday prompt of [#FFF258 Milky Way Dreams]  for Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines -  a MIT-era Tony & Rhodey ficlet, where a drunk Tony shares a childhood dream with his best friend.  It came in at 318 words and will get posted to Ao3 at some point.
————
On  other creative fronts:  I am working on a brown bat  plush figure for a commission.
If  you’re looking for one of a kind gifts for birthdays or other celebrations, check  out Stuffed With Character    over on Facebook for a full list of my designs (now over 150!).   These soft stuffed figures are  mostly Marvel and monsters, but I have some Star Wars, Star Trek, DC   and Disney figures as well. Plus I love to take custom design   requests  for any fandom!

the version i imagine the traveler twins in genshin, if they were of poc instead :) or i guess south east asian version travelers AHAHA
Tumblr media
so like, listen, i have this personal conflict where i see the twins as characters rather than player as traveler, but at the same time i also want to imagine a self insert/genshinsona interactions within the game too... it's just that it's very difficult with the designs of the twins being well... yeah :") so i thought up of my own version
at this point tho, this is a whole different version of the twins, from names, lore, everything, because the writer in me got carried away as always oof XD anyways, here's my version of the genshin twins!
Xyrena and Xyrean
Real Name: Aeryn and Rayne
General
Dec 31 (Rayne) and Jan 1 (Aeryn)
175cm / 5’9” (Rayne) and 164cm / 5’5” (Aeryn) or 157cm/5'2" if you prefer her shorter
Rayne's nicknames: Ray, Xy
Aeryn's nicknames: Ryn, Ren, Rena, Xy
Weapon: Versatile, but mainly bladed weapons
Colors: Blue, brown, white
Ryn is known to be the friendly outgoing adventurous twin while Ray is known to be the more cautious guarded calculating twin.
Lore notes:
Rayne and Aeryn, the oldest of their family of siblings, lost their parents after a devastation in their homeworld. Their parents were brave and selfless souls, always going their way to help those in need and face dangers to protect everyone. They were well regarded as loyal and close to the rulers of their homeland. Unfortunately, the devastation was far too great and wiped out almost everyone, with the children being lucky.
Needing to flee, Rayne and Aeryn take their siblings to safety from world to world. But they weren’t always welcomed with open arms as outsiders to other worlds. Since then they’ve all vowed that their home is wherever they are all together.
Rayne and Aeryn are twins (18), with Ray being older by a few hours than Ryn. The second oldest son is Rayen (16), the second oldest daughter Reyna (13), the youngest son Aryen (9), the youngest daughter Eryna (4)
Each sibling owns a piece of jewellery marked with a 𝝌 with a similar purpose as friendship bracelets. (because of my Kingdom Hearts fixation, if the names with the X weren't obvious AKSBDND)
But one day in the midst of their travels a god descends upon them, angry that they are disturbing the balance of their worlds and separates them all despite the elder ones begging for mercy.
And thus begins my version of Genshin :)
(Written in Ryn's POV because I play Lumine) Ryn gets amnesia, but remembers one thing, to find the last person she ever saw, her older brother. She doesn’t even remember her own name, or the rest of her siblings. But then she finds her barely intact necklace hold letters: X. Y. R. E. N. A. Paimon assumes that her name is Xyrena and Ryn goes along with it (in Ray's case it would've been Xyrean). She can’t put the necklace back together, but luckily the X remains.
As she goes through her journey, she will slowly be reminded of her goals and her family and her past. Particularly when meeting Childe and his younger brother and even more beyond that.
Character design notes:
Ryn as the Lumine twin keeps the white/blue color motif, but she is not wearing a dress because that's one of the reasons I couldn't get myself to put myself in Lumine's place, as someone that doesn't prefer to wear dresses 💀
I didn't originally think the flowers were an important part to the design until I played the Chasm chapter today, so in Ryn's case, the flowers are in the back where her side braids meet. Speaking of her hair, from Lumine's design I kept the short hair with longer sidehairs.
For Ray, I originally wanted his hair to be more reminiscent to Noctis from Final Fantasy's hair: messier with long side hair, but the picrew I used just couldn't replicate that, so I just compromised. Like Aether, he has long hair that he ties into a low ponytail. As for attire, the black/brown color motif and with Noctis being my main inspiration again, I'd imagine his outfit is a mix between the two (or to be more specific, Noctis' jacket over top Aether's outfit lol XD)
The twins, however, were VERY CLOSE to becoming yet even more Xehanort reincarnations having white hair and gold eyes... 💀
Like as if the names weren't enough of a painfully obvious reference to Kingdom Hearts smh. About the names, the idea came from how in the game the traveler is always referred to by the player's username until they unexpectedly reunite during Dain's chapter and the twins refer to each other by their real names. (Ask me about the name pronunciations if unsure! I know how confusing they are my bad haha XD)
It's not visible, but the twins have moles under their eyes! Under Ryn's left eye and Ray's right
None of the images below are mine and are from Pinterest, but I do plan on drawing up my own versions inspired by them once I get the means to do so digitally :)

3 min read Time Is Running Out to Add Your Name to NASA’s Europa Clipper The “Message in a Bottle” campaign offers everyone the opportunity to have their name stenciled onto a microchip bearing U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón’s “In Praise of Mystery: A Poem for Europa.” The chip will ride aboard NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft to Jupiter and its moon Europa.NASA/JPL-Caltech Six weeks remain for you to add your name to a microchip that will ride aboard the spacecraft as it explores Jupiter’s moon Europa. It’s not every day that members of the public have the chance to send their names into deep space beyond Mars, all the way to Jupiter and its moon Europa. But with NASA’s Europa Clipper, you have that opportunity: Names will ride aboard the spacecraft as it journeys 1.8 billion miles (2.6 billion kilometers) to this icy moon, where an ocean hides beneath a frozen outer shell. The deadline to join the mission’s “Message in a Bottle” campaign is only six weeks away. The campaign closes at 11:59 p.m. EST, Dec. 31, 2023. So far, about 700,000 names have been submitted. Once all the names have been gathered, technicians in the Microdevices Laboratory at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California will use an electron beam to stencil them onto a dime-size silicon microchip. Each line of text is smaller than 1/1000th the width of a human hair (75 nanometers). See how your name will be stenciled onto a dime-size microchip at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This video takes you into the Microdevices Laboratory. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech The chip will be attached to a metal plate engraved with the original poem “In Praise of Mystery,” written by U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón to celebrate the mission. Riding on the exterior of the spacecraft, the poem and names will be like a message in a bottle as they make about 50 close flybys of the ocean world. The mission will log a half-billion miles (800 million kilometers) during these orbits as the spacecraft’s payload of science instruments gathers data on Europa’s subsurface ocean, icy crust, and atmosphere to determine if the moon could support life. Once assembly of Europa Clipper has been completed at JPL, the orbiter will be shipped to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida in preparation for its October 2024 launch. “Message in a Bottle” draws from NASA’s long tradition of shipping inspirational messages on spacecraft that have explored our solar system and beyond. The program aims to spark the imaginations of people around the world as the Voyager spacecraft did in 1977 by sending a time capsule of sounds and images reflecting the diversity of life on Earth. To sign, read the poem, and hear Limón recite it in an animated video, go to: https://go.nasa.gov/MessageInABottle The site also enables participants to create and download a customizable souvenir – an illustration of your name on a message in a bottle against a rendering of Europa and Jupiter – to commemorate the experience. Participants are encouraged to share their enthusiasm on social media using the hashtag #SendYourName. More About the Mission Europa Clipper’s main science goal is to determine whether there are places below Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa, that could support life. The mission’s three main science objectives are to determine the thickness of the moon’s icy shell and its surface interactions with the ocean below, to investigate its composition, and to characterize its geology. The mission’s detailed exploration of Europa will help scientists better understand the astrobiological potential for habitable worlds beyond our planet. Participating in NaNoWriMo this year for the first time ever except my goals are different from the pre-set NaNoWriMo goals.
Goal #1: Finish writing the first draft of We The Pillars (working title) which is my second original novel that I started back in September of this year. It's a gay YA contemporary inspired by Warren Peace from Sky High shdjsjkajxjeiwk
This book so far only has 19 planned chapters and so far I have 12 of those chapters written. I'm currently sitting at 38k, and my goal is to hit at least 60k. According to my day-to-day schedule, that should be finished by the start of Thanksgiving week. After that, this book is getting put away for a while until I return for revision.
Goal #2: Finish my third draft edit/revision of Neon Labyrinth (first full original novel written in August of this year). It's been peer reviewed by a couple of people, but I need to incorporate those edits before I start my next round of beta readers. NL is an Adult sci-fi romance.
This book has 31 chapters, so I'm scheduled to finish the edit by the end of Thanksgiving week. Then I plan to send to different beta readers to hopefully have done by the end of Dec/Jan in which I will begin the 4th draft edits which I believe will probably be my last round of revision before I decide if it’s time to query agents.
Neon Labyrinth is currently sitting at ~116k and my goal is actually to CUT at least another 6.5k to get it around 110k words. Getting it down to closer to 100k would also be good, but I think 110 is more likely. This is also going to be a challenge because I know this draft I need to also add in some interiority in places, so it’s going to be a lot of trimming in order to fit in some new material.
Goal #3: Finish full length outline for The Unsurvivors (planned third original novel.) I am having a hard time figuring out what genre this would be in. I’m assuming it would be either literary fiction, thriller, or romantic suspense? This story is about three college students who survive a school shooting and coincidentally meet up again in group therapy six years later. This one is going to involve another poly romance, but the romance is not the main part of it? Most of it is about the long-term effects of life after a school shooting. Still gotta work on figuring out genre and finishing the outline.
So three goals for NaNoWriMo hitting all the big areas: drafting, revising/editing, and outlining!
Thank GOD for the one week break from work for Thanksgiving or I would NOT be able to do any of this lol.

Writing Goals 2021 + Tracker
Tim’s daily word goal ft commission update
Yoooo I’ve been doing “500 words a day” 2021 challenge (and so far have 22.6k this year alone *fingerguns*) and since I’ve got a ko-fi I just wanted to throw out there that y’all can adopt the “Daily 500 words” (aka steal it from me and my plans) and have your very own tim ficlet for the low low price of a $2 ko-fi/coffee.
Swoop in and fucking adopt a highway Buy My Daily Ficlet and determine its content bc sometimes I write for a specific idea and sometimes it’s a brand new tiny wip. if you buy the daily 500 it’ll be a complete lil ficlet and I’ll publish it
OH actually this is a hilarious excuse to be like “HEY TIM HERE’S TWO DOLLARS GO ADD 500 WORDS TO MY FAVORITE OF YOUR WIPs” (in which case it *won’t* get published if the chapter is still unfinished, obviously, but god how funny is that?)
here’s what it looks like in sheets (don’t @ me I made this myself)
Tumblr media
Oh fuck I forgot to add yesterday’s haha
Tumblr media
Come steal the template babes it’s sexy af
I just made an updated template which includes the feature I added today, aka “Base Goal” (which is what the word count would be if you ONLY wrote 500 words/day aka on day 3 you’d have a total of 1500, etc). All the formulas are entered but I removed my personal stats. The “Yes/no” of met goal will change automatically with what you put in “Words Written” and the “total words” will also change automatically.
The template is here! Make a copy babes :)
Oh! And while I had this post open I edited the template! You can now change the ‘500 words’ value in C2 and the formula will automatically change with it. So if you input a different daily goal of 50 or 100 or 1000 words, the rest of the charts will change to reflect that! Re: base goal/total words/”Met goal?” etc.
I also forgot to mention but it’s pre-filled out until Dec 31 2021

Before I begin, I’d like to thank in advance anyone who decided to give the below a serious look. I took a lot of time putting my reflective pondering down into words, which I don’t really do all that much.
When putting this 2020 art retrospective together, I did look back on my 2019 art retrospective to see what had changed, and if I had achieved what I wanted from the past year. It’s a bit of yays and nays, to be honest.
In terms of production--thanks to the pandemic keeping many of us at home more, I actually surpassed last year in the amount of art I put out, which was already my most productive year, with nearly fifty individual pieces. But I think that came with the caveat in my art dialing back quite a bit on utilizing extensive backgrounds, beyond a few select pieces (such as my Huevopolis artwork above at #8). Which was something I was hoping to do more of this year by 2019′s end. I also didn’t get to really get into making art showcasing my original characters’ personalities or presenting them in certain story concepts/scenarios I’ve written for them. I do have some ideas for my next artwork that involve both of these elements, but I can’t say for sure if I can meaningfully improve on these elements for 2021.
I also *did* get back into animation, which I wanted to do by 2019′s end; but I didn’t go much further than I did in 2018, and it was nothing more than a bouncing ball test. The 2018 animation, meanwhile, was a few seconds of character animation with color. But at the same time, the animation was more choppier in comparison, I think. It’s very much a draw. Unlike the above two, I do think I should be able to do more animation in 2021.
On the flipside, however; I did fulfill my intentions in getting more into making more fanart of things I like, and I think the results show with the above top ten results. Six out of the top ten artwork above are fanart (in one case, requested fanart!), and the top three of the top ten are fanart. Most triumphantly, the “Ultimate Lazeform” Shadow the Hedgehog-Garfield hybrid above is not only my most popular fanart of this year; but at over 90 notes, it’s my most popular artwork overall on this site! (On a similar note, I jumped on the “Amy as Rouge” trend that happened earlier in the year, which became my overall most favorited piece on deviantArt). A fair amount of it is stuff that’s also not Sonic-related (or not completely Sonic-related), such as the Dedede and Sephiroth pieces; which was another goal I wanted to achieve.
Another 2020 art goal I’m pretty happy with reaching is doing more art of friends’ OCs, between the Hexology anniversary followup (shown above at #4) and the Baseball trio pieces; all of which was handled solely by me as surprises for those friends. This art was also what I’m happy to say are the few exceptions of my OCs interacting with others and demonstrating their character traits a bit more than normal. I do regret not doing more direct collaborations, so more people could have a go with my characters. (Although someone was nice enough to give me a surprise of their own for my birthday!) I’ve got at least a couple more new concept going on in my head that takes things a bit further than what’s been done; which I hope to carry out as we enter the new year.
Overall, despite the shortcomings, I do think this was another strong year for me in terms of my artwork. (As an aside, I also took a course in Drawing for my college classes, made several well-received sketches and art projects, and ultimately got an A grade in that; so that was also nice.) I think I lived up to my promise in keeping the momentum building from 2019, and I hope to keep that engine for the third year running in 2021!
Once again, as always, thanks to anyone who took their time to read through the whole thing! Hope you have an exceptional (and in comparison to a tough 2020, much better) new year!

Venturing into 2020 ...
This will be the third year that I’ve used a daily word-count self-challenge to see if I can inspire myself to write more.
The first year, 2018, I wrote 43 words on New Year’s Day and, realizing that managing that every day would give me nearly 15,700 words at year’s end, I set that as my goal. (Not literal everyday writing but averaging it all out.) I surprised myself and ended up with a 50-words-a-day average. So I upped my self-challenge for 2019 to that 50-word level.
I ended 2019 with a daily word average of 114 words and more than 41,000 total words.
I feel as if upping my self-challenge to 114 words a day in 2020 would be setting myself up for failure -- there’s a fine line between *challenge* and “seemingly impossible task” -- so I’m not officially going to go there. Instead, I’m going to maintain the 50-words-a-day goal for 2020 and hope that I meet it (and maybe, just maybe, manage to exceed those 114 words a day anyway)!
Dec. 31: Happy end to 2020. I am about to end the year having written far fewer words than I did in 2019. While I’m glad I managed to beat my daily word-average goal, and to some extent am pleased that I managed to write anything at all, I had been hoping for more. I have the ideas. (Well, a couple of ideas.) And I have a WIP that I think I’ll really like -- if I can pull it off. But the words don’t want to come. So I’m trying to be OK with writing about 25 percent* less than I did in 2019, recognizing that it’s still more than I wrote in the majority of years since 2012. And 2021 is a new year in which I can try again to write more (and hopefully better) words. (* That percentage depends on what measure I use. According to AO3, I’ve posted 20,000 fewer words than 2019′s 47,000. Which is pushing a loose 50 percent drop. But I know I have about 7,000 words in my unposted WIP, which brings the difference closer to 13,000, which I’m loosely considering 25 percent.)
Feb. 21: This is my first entry of 2020 and ... not great. But ... part of the reason I do it this way is because, when the words come, they tend to come in clusters of more than 50 words. So taking six weeks to write my first words isn’t fatal to the year-end goal.
During the weekend of Feb. 15-16, I wrote 1,320 words. Today (Feb. 21) I have added another 903 words, for a year-to-date word total of 2,223 words and a daily word average of 42.75 words. Which isn’t far off of that 50-words-a-day goal, despite my late start. (The words still feel kind of like I’m pulling teeth, but I have a solid idea -- and a unique idea -- that I like. Here’s hoping I can see it through to the end.
Feb. 23: Well, it wasn’t much, especially considering it was the weekend, but I added another 200 words to my current doc today, which brings my yearly word count up to 2,423 and my daily word average up to 44.87 words a day. I’m creeping closer to my 50-word-a-day goal and trying not to stall out for lack of time/energy. I want to write this. But every time I sit down to write, I’m also aware that I want to quilt. And I want to read. And I want to bake. And I barely have time for any of those things, let alone all of them. But I am trying to juggle. We’ll see how long I can keep everything in the air.
Feb. 29: It’s Leap Day, and I am determined not to waste an extra day in the year by doing nothing. So, along with making peanut butter cups and hoping to quilt yet today and maybe go for a walk, I have added 560 words to my current WIP, bringing my year-to-date word total up to 2,983 words and my daily average up to 49.71 words. I’m going to try to add to that before today is over. If not, then before the weekend is over. But I’m pleased that I’ve managed that many.
March 7: So far today I haven’t managed any words. (I can hope that changes.) But, earlier this week, over the course of two days, I managed 599 words. That brings my yearly total today up to 3,582 words and my daily average to 53.46.
March 11: On March 9 I managed 277 words. Today I added 363, for a combined 640 words. That brings the yearly total up to 4,222 words and my daily average up to 59.46 words. Slow but steady ...
March 15: Today I have added 579 words to my current WIP, which brings my yearly total up to 4,801 and my daily average to 64 words a day. (Though my doc says I have 5,108 words, so I’m not sure how to account for the missing 307 words. And, if I were to add them, it would push my word average to 68 words a day.)
April 16: I managed 1,031 words April 15 on a new WIP. (I would still be focused on my old WIP, except I have an exchange fic due at the end of May.) It took me a while to hit on an idea for the new one, but I’m happy with how it’s going so far. So, in the 106 days (as of April 15, not today) so far this year, I’ve written 5,832 words, for a daily average of 55.01 words a day. My average dropped in that month I apparently took off from writing, but I’m still above my daily average goal and my exchange fic is moving along, so I’m counting it as a win!
April 19: I have written another 1,339 words today on my exchange fic. Still quite a way to go, but it’s progress. I probably could keep writing -- conditions in my house are good at the moment. But I’ve been working on in for hours now (amid texting with friends and browsing Tumblr and Twitter), so I feel as if it’s a good time to stop and try something else for a bit. Anyway. That brings my yearly word count up to 7,171 words and my daily average (in 110 days) up to 65.19 words. I’m OK with that!
April 25: I’m developing a pattern, though not a bad one, I don’t think. I seem to be maxing out my writing sessions around 1,000 words before feeling the need to stop for the moment. Today, for example, I wrote 1,066 words. Not gonna complain about that, at all! It brings my year-to-date word total up to 8,237 words (in 116 days) and my daily word average to 71 words a day. I’m going to aim for more tomorrow, since I seem to manage to write on weekends more easily than I manage during the week. But we’ll see how things go.
April 26: I managed to write again today -- a good thing, since I rarely find time during the week and, thus, rely on weekends to get much of my writing done. I wrote 1,856 words (not including the ones I wrote to explain the ideas I have for the parts I haven’t yet written). That brings my yearly word total up to 10,093 words in 117 days, for a daily word average of 86.26 words. I’ll take it!
May 2: Well, I wrote 1,010 words today. None of them were for the exchange fic on which I should be working, but they were words. Words that I’m actually pretty pleased with, so I’m not feeling any regret about not focusing on my exchange fic. Today’s words bring me up to 11,103 words in 123 days, for a daily word average of 90.268. Fingers crossed I can find more time to write tomorrow -- and maybe on my exchange fic!
May 3: Well, I wrote another 1,023 words today and think I’ve finished (pending beta) the short little one-off that settled into my brain. That brings my word count for the year to 12,126 words in 124 days, for a daily average of 97.79 words. I’m still hoping to write more before the day is done, but I wanted to note this before I lost track of how many words I had in the first doc. Now ... on to my exchange fic. Update: I just added another 1,378 words to my exchange fic, which puts me at 2,401 words for the day and 13,504 words for the year. That raises my daily word average to 108.9 words a day.
May 6: Over the past few days, I’ve written 474 words to put the finishing touches on something. That number’s deceptive, considering that some of those were new and some of them were replacing others already written and I honestly can’t be sure how many I actually wrote. But it was at least 474. Which brings my year-to-date word total up to 13,978 and my daily word average over 127 days to 110.06. The writing’s not what I would call “easy” right now. It’s not just flowing from my fingertips perfectly to grace my Gdocs. But it is happening, which means it’s not as hard as it has been at points during the past few years. I appreciate that.
May 9: I just added 1,051 words to my WIP. That brings me to a 130-day year-to-date word total of 15,029 and a daily word average of 115.6 words. I’m ... stunned.
May 16: I think I’ve finished my exchange fic. Today’s writing involved approximately 946 words, for an approximate year-to-date total of 15,975 words and a daily word average (in 137 days) of 116.6 words. (And my exchange deadline is still an astounding 15 days away. It’s not even a result of my “deadline’s approaching” panic-induced “inspiration”!)
June 21: It seems like I’ve had a lull in writing (yes), but I finished my exchange fic and then spent some time beta-ing other exchange fics, so I wasn’t non-wordy during the past month. Still, it felt good today when I was able to add 579 words to the WIP I started in February. I also reworked a section, probably adding a few words, subtracting a few words, so I have no idea how many words I added there. And I think I have a workable route forward on finishing the WIP one of these days. (I won’t set a deadline, because artificial deadlines seem to freeze me as much as real ones inspire me.) Anyway ... 579 words added to the yearly word count makes for 16,554 words and a daily average (in 173 days) of 95.687 words a day.
July 5: I finally had some time when things were quiet enough for me to focus on writing, so I did. I was at 1,214 words when the quiet went away. That gives a year-to-date word total of 17,768 words and a daily average (in 187 days) of 95.01 words.
July 12: I’m still hoping to write more, but ... I went back and tweaked a conversation I wrote last week, adding 236 words. That brings me up to 18,004 words in 194 days for a daily average of 92.8 words.
July 21: I’m running behind in updating this, but ... on Sunday (July 19 -- happy birthday, BC!) I wrote 1,411 words on my current WIP. [It’s getting closer to done, but I’m still leery of my (made up) Aug. 1 deadline.] Those words bring me up to a yearly total of 19,415 words in 201 days, for a daily average of 96.59 words. I want to hope I get more written before the weekend, but ... it never seems to work. I managed to get my doc open Monday but didn’t add a word. It just sat there in a tab all day, watching me work. It’s open again today, but I’m not sure the result will be any different. Still, I’m trying!
P.S. I added another 555 words on July 21, bringing my word total (for 203 days) up to 19,970 words and a daily average of 98.37 words.
July 24: I’m surprising myself this week, managing to write a bit in the morning before work. (And letting a few minutes of writing time bleed into working time. But I was good and eventually closed out the doc to keep myself from straying away from work.) Anyway, on Thursday (yesterday/the 23rd), I wrote 779 words (and got a good chunk of my WIP’s ending written)! I still have to finish the ending and write an earlier scene, but ... it feels doable. The 779 words brings my word total for the year up to 20,749 words and a daily average (for 205 days) up to 101,21 words!
July 26: I am really trying to get this WIP finished. To that end, I have written 932 words so far today. I am optimistic that not many more will be needed and I hope maybe to write some of them today. Still, for now, that brings me to a year-to-date word total of 21,681 words and a daily average (in 207 days) of 104.73 words.
Aug. 2: I added 431 words to my WIP on Aug. 1, bringing my year-to-date word total up to 22,112 words and a daily average (in 213 days) of 103.8 words a day. (That was 213 days as of Aug. 1, not Aug. 2.) I had hoped to write some more today, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. It’s ... complicated.
Aug. 19: No writing update. I’m kind of ... stuck. My WIP is either very nearly done or about to be razed to its foundation. I’m not sure which. While I decide, it’s sitting and I’m not writing. But I didn’t want this post to end up too far down my dash to find if/when I manage to string together words in a coherent fic-ly fashion again.
Sept. 6: Maybe it’s the three-day weekend allowing my brain a chance to relax and consider words, but, between today and Saturday/yesterday, I have managed 807 words on my WIP. I would like to think I’ll be able to add more before the weekend is done, but ... I’ll be happy with 807 words, if that’s what I end up with. It brings me to a year-to-date total of 22,919 words in 249 days, and a daily average of 92.04 words. Not as good as I’d like, but still well above my goal, so ... I’m OK with that! (And glad to be writing again, however slowly.)
Oct. 1: Between Sept. 30 and today, I have written 633 words. I still have a long way to go toward finishing this new thing (my WIP is on hold while I work on an exchange fic that is coming due alarmingly quickly, considering I just started writing it). That brings my year-to-date word total up to 23,552 words and my daily average (in 274 days) to 85.956 words. A bit lower than I had hoped, but they are words and I won’t complain.
Oct. 7: It’s been hard the past few days to keep track of a word count. I’ve basically been leaving my doc open all day every day and hoping that I manage to add a few words here and there. Along with adding some, I’ve subtracted some, I’ve tweaked some so they’re barely recognizable as having come from what was there before. But I have officially added 1,208 words since Oct. 1. That brings my year-to-date word total to 24,760 words and my daily average (in 280 days) to 88.4 words. I still have a long way to go on this WIP and not a long time in which to finish it, but it’s progress.
Oct. 11: OK, so ... I’m totally losing track of words gained. In the past few days, I added words. And then I subtracted words and added new words. And then I took a chunk of words and reworked them. I can say for sure that I have added 182 words. Though the reality is that there were many more than that written. Anyway. That’s 182 words added to the total word count to get 24,942 words in 284 days, That’s a daily average of 87.8 words. With 13 days left until I have to submit this WIP as a finished exchange gift.
Oct. 17: I’m optimistic that I finished my current WIP (as opposed to the one that was a WIP before the current WIP and remains a WIP) this morning. If my beta agrees. Between edits and tweaks and the section I added this morning, I have no idea how many words that is. But, if I go back to when I started this WIP and add the current total to my word count as I started, I have written 26,588 words so far this year (not counting the ones I wrote and then edited or the ones I wrote and then deleted), for a daily average of 91.68 words in 290 days.
Oct. 18: My beta didn’t think I was quite done yesterday, but I was close, and I think I addressed her questions this morning. That’s another 291 words on Day 291 of the year. With a year-to-date word total of 26,879 words, that’s a daily word average of 92.367 words.
Dec. 7: *sigh* My writing mojo has well and truly flown the coop. I think I need a vacation. But, while I have time to take (or lose) by the end of the year, work is too busy -- and too shorthanded -- for that to happen. So ... I muddle on. After submitting my exchange fic before Halloween, I haven’t really written anything new. Until I got an inkling of a thought for a scene at bedtime last night. I texted myself the bare bones and turned them into 451 words this morning. That’s not going to make up for not having written in close to two months, but ... it’s something. It’s 27,330 words in 342 days, for a daily word average of 79.679 words. I’m behind last year’s average, but still above my stated goal for the year (if not my hoped-for goal) and I still have time ... if I can find my focus.
Dec. 14: Baby steps. I’ve made no new progress on my WIP, but I did manage 518 words for an Advent fic prompt -- held over from 2019 because I only made it about halfway through them last December. That brings my yearly total to 27,848 words in 349 days (the way this day has started, I’m assuming there will be no time for non-work writing today), for a daily average of 79.79 words. Unless I somehow manage to finish the year strong, I’m not going to top last year’s average (and, not to seem pessimistic -- more realistic -- if it’s taken me 349 days to write nearly 28,000 words, I don’t see myself managing 13,000 words in the next 17 days. (That really would be a Christmas miracle.) But it is still well about my initial 43-words-a-day average and my “official” 50-words-a-day goal, even if I don’t write another word this year. So I will continue trying to write as I am able and try not to be too frustrated by how difficult words have seemed at large chunks of time this year.
Dec. 20: I tell myself that, with a handful of days before Christmas, I should be trying to write more of last year’s Advent fic. Or that cabin fic I’ve been pondering for months (well before the cabin fic fest was a thing). Instead, I managed 434 words on my WIP -- and count it as a win, even though I wish it were so much more. That brings me to 28,282 words in 255 days, for a daily average of 110.9 words a day. (That jump in average still doesn’t seem right, but apparently it is. It goes to show how even a relative few words can make a big difference.)

Am down to 12 active WIPs  (with a couple of maybe TBCs)  with my current   deadline being  the  Man with a Plan, Starkbucks  and Bucky Barnes bingos coming in close behind!
See below cut for the WIPs  (arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc) I am working on  -   feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects   (or any other WIPs I’ve got out there) – they really help feed the Muse and keep me motivated!
Avengers Bingo [AvB] (Runs thru 24 Dec ) - ALL WRITTEN - Goal = BLACKOUT!
Fourteen fills posted (14 to Ao3)  and 0 WIPs -  Everything is written!!! I just need to edit and post to get my blackout on this 4x4 card!!! I decided to further challenge myself on this 16-square card by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers, with the final square being dealers’ choice. Thanks again to the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks for helping me match pairings to squares - I think they worked out pretty well overall!
* B4 - Age Gap    - Finished up Caught By the Rain and Blinded by the Lightning - a Thor/Tony  post CA:CW  PWP crossing over with TSB One Night Stand. It came in at  1256 words & is scheduled for Ao3 on 12/23.
* D2 - Romeo & Juliet AU  -  Two Cliques: Alike in Dignity  posted this morning - Steve (jock) & Tony  (geek) trying out for title roles in R&J - despite their respective friend groups objections/grousing about the other clique. It came in at 327 words.
Man With a Plan (Steve Rogers) Bingo [MWAPB] (Runs thru 31 Dec)
Seventeen fills, two bingos (Row 5 & Col I) 3 WIPs - shooting for a Row 2/Column O bingo as well.  Since the event was pretty much abandoned by its creator (life happens, I get it),  I’m finishing this pretty much out of stubbornness and may carry some squares over for inspiration into the new year.
* I1 - Steve is here for TFAtWS  - Passing the Torch posted this morning - a moodboard for this square paired with a ficlet for  my  BBB  “Oh, hell no"  square - Bucky POV (with some extra insider info) of the events where Sam is given Cap’s shield.   It came in at 339 words.
* G4 - Canon Divergence post CA:TWS - possible  crossover with BBB  Kill List – Bucky wreaking havoc on Hydra bases and  Steve & Sam catch up with him. Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.
* G5 - Friends to Lovers -  claimed this with   Never Have I Ever (But I’d Like to With You)  a pining!Steve POV of the team playing NHIE where he manages to get one over on Tony. Chapter 1 came it at 1000 words even and posted last Friday. Chapter 2 will switch to Tony POV and make good on this square.
*  O2 - Sex Pollen  -  A Dusting of Trouble  is in progress - Steve and Bucky get curious when they learn Teenage Groot’s pollen is an aphrodisiac. It crosses over with my SRB  - Groot square and am working on a scene so I can use my BBB KINK: Aftercare square as well.  It’s currently sitting at 505 words, and is scheduled for  12/29.
* O5 - FREE - Filled this with a self-referential item:   Man with a Plan Bingo Badges - fairly basic graphics based on photos of my Steve Rogers SWC figures - participant, bingo blackout and stealth (for anyone who posted 5+ fills without a bingo)
StarkBucks Bingo - Round 3  (SBB_R3) - Ends 31 Dec
Fourteen fills (13 posted to Ao3), 3 WIPs - One bingo (Col N) and shooting for  Row 3, Col G and Row 4.
* B1 - “I wouldn’t mind wasting my time on you.“  - Possible crossover with  BBB - KINK: Seduction Mission?   Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.
* I2 - Mistaken Identity - crossover with TSB K5 - Protectiveness -  “The Mechanic, The Soldier & The Artist” - mob/assassin AU with a Mr. & Mrs. Smith twist?   Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.
* I3 - “Oh dear.” -  Wrote up a remix ficlet of  Leading Questions - Tony POV on the stressful interview and the immediate aftermath.  It came it at 255 words and is scheduled for 12/27.
* I4 - Canon: Avengers Academy  - will probably do Stuffed Marvels sketches of Tony and Winter, as I know very little about the game/canon.   It’s on my Bingo Attack plan list, but at the bottom, so don’t hold your breath.
* N3 - FREE - Filled this with An Act of Kindness, a fluffy meet-cute with Tony & Morgan needing a bit of help from the handsome stranger standing in line at the coffee shop.  It came in at 545 words and has a sequel coming as part of a stocking challenge that gets revealed on the 26th.
* N5 - “Wanna make a bet?”  Used this in combination with the Day 18  Fictober (“I don’t think this is your problem.”)  and Flufftober  (Soulmate AU) prompts for  Marked-Up Soulmarks  - a soulmate AU where Tony discovers he and Steve have something (and someone) in common. I may expand on this before posting it to Ao3 and/or claiming it as an official fill. Currently coming in at 418 words.
* G4 - Pepper Potts -  continue  Open Up Your Heart (And Let the Truth Come Out) - Tony POV?  This is on my Bingo Attack plan list, but at the bottom, so don’t hold your breath.
* O1 - Royalty - crossover with TSB - IronWidow  &  BBB   AU: Arranged Marriage -  pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion  back up - the current chapter is sitting at 595 words and would need to be 800 min to fill all 3 squares.   It may not make this bingo’s deadline, but possibly BBB?
* O5 - AU: Biker  - Grease 2  fusion  anyone?  😁  I watched the movie a month or so ago and took notes -  It’s not gonna be a faithful adaptation, but hopefully fun - had another mini-brainstorm on this  that led to last Friday’s  No Ordinary Boy ficlet, but that didn’t go far enough into the  story to count toward this square.   Will post this ficlet on 12/26 with the faint hope of getting more done before the deadline, but it’s  not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath!
Hero Hardships Bingo  [HHB]  (Runs thru 31 Dec)
Not really expecting to get anything more done on this card, unfortunately.  😔
* O3 - Dating a civilian -  this would fit perfectly with another chapter of Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) , for which I currently have a basic plot point or two rolling around in my head.   I do have about 1000 words on what would be the next chapter of TWTG, so… maybe I’ll whip it into shape and toss it out there? :: shrug::
Bucky Barnes Bingo - Round 4 [BBB_R4] (Runs thru 7 Jan 2023)
Seventeen fills,  four WIPs  & ideas for everything except one square  - Row 1 bingo achieved - shooting for Column B, Column K and maybe Row 3 as well.  Hoping we can carry squares over into the next round.
* B3 - Sam Wilson|Falcon -  Chapter 2 of After One Or Two False Starts   is in good shape. It switches to Bucky POV and is currently sitting at 315 words.   Targeting 1/6 to post it.
* U2 - AU: Roommate  - Still wanting to use the Meet Ugly prompt: 02. I bought a house three months ago but I’m finally moving in and discover you’ve been squatting because you’re homeless    – probably WinterHawk with  recovering!Bucky being the squatter in Clint’s apartment building.  However, this is not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath.
* U4 - AU: Arranged Marriage - will probably pick Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion  back up for this one.  See SBB Royalty for details.
* C2 - “Oh, hell no” - see MWAP  I1 - Steve is here for TFaWS
*C3 - FREE Filled this with  A Disarming Request  - a Bucky & Nebula fic written in response to (and therefore spoiling) the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.  It came in at 306 words and was posted on Tuesday.
* C4 - KINK: Aftercare - see  MWAPB Sex Pollen above
*C5 - “This might as well happen” -  Used this for the Sept BBB Round Robin  (crackfic - Emperor’s New Groove inspired)  wrote 276 words toward it. Looks like I’ll get to count it, just need to submit a square fill form.
* K1 - Thighs - Ended up expanding on a 3 prompts --> summary game response and ended up with  Card Sharks. It’s a drabble where Bucky is playing strip poker with Steve, Natasha and Sam - and things are not going well (or going extremely well, depending on your point of view). 100 words and posted on Sunday.
* K3 - KINK: Edging  - working on Hanging By A Moment -   (Bucky POV with toy play and Tony as a power bottom)  crossing over  with  TSB   K3 - KINK: Orgasm Denial/Edging  - - currently 639 words and just about done; it’s scheduled to post on 12/30. I might add an epilogue as a separate chapter to get  C4 - KINK: Aftercare square as well.
* Y2 - Never the fall that kills you -  this might be the title for a reverse hanahaki WinterIron prompt from @lacrimula-falsa ….   but is not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so don’t hold your breath.
* Y4 - KINK: Seduction Mission - crossover with SBB - B1 - “I wouldn’t mind wasting my time on you.”  & “It wasn’t wasted”  Not on my Bingo Attack plan list, so probably won’t get done.  Hopefully I can carry squares over into the next round!
Sam Wilson Bingo - Mini Holiday Round (SWB_MH) - Ends 20 Jan
Picked up a 3x3 card for this holiday event and already have 1 fill posted and another ready to go.  Shooting for a bingo/crossover with BBB squares.
*A1 - Secret Santa  Sam’s bound and determined to figure out who keeps leaving little gifts for him around the Compound.
* B1 - Under the Mistletoe  - Posted Things Are Looking Up here on Tumblr last Friday as a Flash Fiction Friday fill - Bucky gets included in a Wilson Christmas tradition.  It is sitting at  553 words and will go up on Ao3 tomorrow.
* C1 - Christmas Morning   Better Be Good (For Goodness’ Sake) is written - secret relationship fluff that’s coming in at 353 words and will be posted to Ao3 on the 24th.
Steve Rogers Bingo - Round 2  (SRB_R2) - Ends 31 Jan
Fifteen fills posted with 2 bingos (Row 3 & Row 1)   & 1 WIP at the moment   – aiming for 2 or 3 more bingos before the event wraps.
* A1 - Never Have I Ever -  see   MWAPB  FREE above.
* A4 - Touch Attention/Denial  - I have an idea for this that will also fill (heh) my Stucky Bingo  KINK - Double Penetration square.
* B2 - Mile High Club -  This will be the second chapter of Never Have I Ever (But I Want To With You), picking up with Tony’s POV after the events of Chapter One. Rolling some things around in my head, but other projects are taking priority.   Possibly combine with TSB  Tony’s Poor Life Choices ?
* C4 - Groot - crossover with  MWAPB Sex Pollen - see above.
* E2 - Comics Nomad Steve  - SWC sketch of Nomad!Steve
* E4 - Mental Bondage - crossover with TSB KINK: Concubine -  Potential Title My Voice The Chain that Binds You
Tony Stark Bingo - Round 6  (TSB_R6)  [Ends 28 Feb]
Fifteen fills and three WIPs at the moment -    with  Vague Ideas for almost every other square.
* T1 - One Night Stand - see AvB - B4 - Age Gap
* T2 - Doing Groceries - crossover with MWAP B3 - Farmer’s Market  - if I can bang out a  drabble/moodboard in time, otherwise will find something else to do with this.
* T3 - Pepper Potts/Rescue -  some sort of remix of/inspired by sabrecmc’s  Indecent Proposal  from Pepper’s POV.  At this point, I think I need to re-read the fic & take notes …
* T4 - KINK: Concubine - see   SRB  E4 - Mental Bondage?
*A5 - Scott Lang  - 27dragons shared an interesting plot bunny during the Sept TSB Discord party that I may end up using; that or a follow up to A Piece of the Action
* R1 - Tony’s Poor Life Choices - see SRB Mile High Club above.
* R2 - IronWidow -  next chapter of Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion ?  see  SBB Royalty above
* K2 - Secret Admirer -  carried this over from last round so I could try my hand a remix of Seeds of Love  (WinterIron hanahaki fic by the super-talented @hddnone).  Potential title:  Wraps Around My Heart, Refusing to Unwind
* K3 - KINK: Orgasm Denial/Edging -  see BBB KINK: Edging
Stucky Bingo Round Four [SB_R4] (Ends 31 May 2023
Seven fills and one WIPs with a couple of other vague ideas.
* B1 - Mutual Pining - possible crossover with MWAPB - Friends to Lovers
* B4 - Artist/Muse - posted  A Work of Heart to Tumblr  on 10/29.  It came in at  at 650 words and filled Day 29 of   Fictober (”You love this, don’t you?”) , Flufftober (Leaves) and Whumptober (”Better me than you.”)  Coming to Ao3 on 12/28
* B5 - KINK: Double Penetration - see SRB   Touch Attention/Denial  above.
*I3 - “Open Wide” - used this in the Stucky Bingo December 2022 Round Robin  fic - managed a fluffy date  interpretation for this prompt  😁
* O4 - AU: Supernatural - got inspired by a dream to start a Stucky fantasy AU (magician!Steve/ensorcelled!Bucky) that @bill-longbow  is collaborating on with me.  This was supposed to fill my Man with a Plan Bingo Soulmates square, but I ran out of time on that bingo.   We’re currently sitting at 1640 words  (984-ish of which are mine).   Will probably continue on this sometime in January.   Current Last Line:  "My men will accompany you back to Brookline in the morning.”
I also adopted the Writing Format: Remix one of your fics  square  – am thinking of taking one of my Stony or WinterIron  No Powers fics and adapting it to a Stucky pairing – if you have any requests - hit me up!
WinterIron - No Powers AU  –  Stony No Powers AU
————
On other creative fronts:  I have a a Gwenpool figure in progress -  still working on the figures for my three Marvel Trumps Hate  auction winners (5 of 7 done so far) – thanks so much for your generous support!!  Finally, I am prepping for a superhero con in March - so am pretty well booked up through at least the end of the year.
That said, if you’re looking for one of a kind gifts for birthdays or other celebrations in 2023, check  out Stuffed With Character   over on Facebook for a full list of my designs (now over 80!).   They’re  mostly Marvel and monsters, but I have some Star Wars, Star Trek, DC   and Disney figures as well. Plus I love to take custom design  requests  for any fandom!

A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout - blurrypetals review
originally posted dec. 31, 2020 - ★★★★★
All right, and there we have it! I read 100 books in 2020! I'm pretty happy to have reached this goal and I like that I made this my final one of the year, not only because I liked it, but also because it felt pretty emblematic of romance fantasy literature in 2020. It seemed like every time I discussed fantasy, YA/NA, or romance this year after the first book came out, this series would inevitably come up. I mentioned this in my review for the first book, but I've been a fan of Armentrout's for a while, and I think her body of work is an interesting thing because she's incredibly good at disguising her writing style, to the point that I don't know if I would have known the first book was written by her if I had somehow gone into it blindly. That said, I think this is a perfect marriage (pun intended) of Armentrout's usual style, that of the Lux and Dark Elements books, and the style used in From Blood and Ash, which really ended up hitting a sweet spot between trashy fun and genuinely engaging that she's had a hard time balancing herself into in the past. Like, even though this may not be my favorite Armentrout novel, I would feel pretty comfortable saying it's her best. It really feels like the culmination of all her different styles and stories that I've read and it felt like, for the first time in a while, Armentrout had grown as a writer, which is a cool thing to observe. I think the action was really fun and engaging, the romance was hot and engaging, the story was very well paced and engaging and...yeah, I get it, I'm being repetitive, but this was really engaging. I finished this at about 4:00am this morning and, when I woke up for work today, I found myself excited to continue listening when I dug into work and...well, shit, I forgot I already finished it! Oops, I have to wait until April for the next book! Anyway, needless to say I'm very excited for the next one. I liked it a lot more than the first book and I'm very excited to see if book three can keep that momentum up. Bated breath for 4-20, baby!

Mid November NaNoWriMo Advice
Tumblr media
Congratulations and great job to all the writers who are doing a NaNoWriMo project this month.
The midway point for Nano is a hard place to be. A lot of people end up giving up at this point.
The problem:
You’re behind
How far behind are you really? It’s easy to have missed a day or two and feel like giving up.  Even if you haven’t written a single word all month, you can still win. If your word count is 0 on the morning of the 15th, you’ll need to write 3,333 words a day to get caught up.
The midpoint is discouraging, it’s also the point to recommit. If you’ve made any progress you’ve got more of a story today than you had on Oct. 31st.
Possible solutions
Word sprints
Increase your daily goal
Set aside a day for writing to close as much of the gap as possible.
You don’t have enough story to write a full 50k
So you’ve reached the midpoint and you’re more than half way through your story. You’re looking at this story and realize that you’re going to be finished with the draft and fall short of 50k.
Don’t panic. If your draft is finished early you can beef it up before the end of the month.
Finish writing the story. See where you are when you it’s time to write “The end.”
Start a new project.
Add bonus” scenes
Put your characters in new situations
Make sure your existing scenes use all 5 senses.
You don’t know how to end the story
If you don’t know the ending chances are it’s because the story isn’t close to being finished yet.
 Keep writing
Make a list of every possible ending you can think of: What is the best possible outcome? What’s the worst? What’s the most likely to happen? What would be the most expected ending? What would be the least? What are the expectations for your genre? What ending would your MC like? What ending would the villain like?
The story is boring
Chances are you only think it’s boring because you’re the one writing it.
Stop comparing your rough draft to someone else’s published work. You have no idea how many times their story was edited to make it more interest.
Try some of the dares
Blow something up.
Have someone do something completely unexpected. Have the villain send the hero flowers, have the hero decide mid-quest to go sky diving to clear their head, have a circus show up and an elephant run loose. Just add something to the story to shake things up. If you don’t like it you can always remove it on December 1st.
Add a new character.
The stakes are too low
At this point you’ve probably started to get an idea of who the characters are and what they want. If it doesn’t feel like they are moving the story forward give them something to lose. Sometimes when you’re writing a story you just feel like the characters don’t have enough skin in the game. If they have nothing to lose it’s hard to keep them moving forward.
Give the characters conflicting goals.
Give the character what they want at a price they don’t want to pay.
Have the character faced with a choice with no good outcomes.
The stakes are too high
If you find you’ve written the characters against a challenge that is too great for them to overcome. Your characters are too weak to face their adversary.  Now what?
Give the villain a weakness.  It could be they are deathly afraid of certain colors, or certain sounds short out their equipment, or they could have a person they care about in danger. Give them something that can hurt them.
Have one of the villain’s inner circle betray them.
Throw in something that gives the MC an advantage.
Throw in something that gives the Villain a disadvantage.
You’ve written yourself into a corner.
Sometimes it happens. You think you have a great idea so you follow it only to find out that you’ve led yourself into a unwinnable predicament, you can figure out how to move forward and you can’t figure out how to go back.
Go back and give them some “magic” escape means.
Maybe they’ve walked into a trap, but they did it to be captured by the enemy.
Follow the next step, what happens to them after they are in this corner? Does someone come get them? Do they lose something important?
Start the next scene. Just pretend they aren’t in the corner for now, start writing what happens later, and then you might become unstuck.
This last bit of advice is going to hurt. But it’s gotten me out of more corners than I care to admit.
Go back to the point of no return. Go to the place where the characters got on this unsurmountable path. Put brackets around the section or some other indicator so you know where the story diverges and try a different path. Have the characters make a different decision that leads to a different outcome.
You feel like your existing scenes are too incoherent/ inconsistent
Ignore it. The good news is this can be fixed in the next draft. I tend to see inconsistencies as a problem for the second draft. Make a note of what feels inconsistent. (Currently I have a character that’s a flirt in one scene but seems to be a nun in another one.) my note looks like this [why does X behave this way when they did ____ earlier]
Add a scene to explain the difference in behaviors.
Add a scene that explains any sudden changes in location. It doesn’t have to be fully fleshed out; it can just be a note like [Character X goes to Y location]
Real life is in the way
Sometimes it happens. Between upcoming holidays, the yearly cold season, unplanned family emergencies, Nano can be one more straw than the camel can hold.
This a hard one, because sometimes in life you have to decide if a challenge is worth the cost. If your real life situation is one that makes it impossible for you to finish, that’s okay, don’t cost yourself your mental health over this project.
Winning isn’t everything. An attempt is more than most people will ever do.
Commit to a minimum writing time per day. You may have to get up early or stay up late to reach your goal.
Write while waiting on other things.  Picking up take out, waiting for a RX, waiting on dinner to cook, steal the little moments where you can. They will add up.
Determine when or if you’ll be able to catch back up. (it’s perfectly okay if you say, okay I can’t finish this in November, so I’ll pick the project back up in Dec.)
Remember you can do this! You are doing a great job to have made it this far.

Lawyers for the family of Breonna Taylor allege in a new court filing that the raid that led to her fatal shooting by police was motivated by the city’s desire to redevelop a block in the Russell neighborhood where her ex-boyfriend lived.
In an amended complaint, the lawyers claimed “the Defendants raided Breonna Taylor’s home due to a reckless police operation motivated by a need to get a street cleared for a real estate development project.”
But a city official said that narrative is not accurate.
“Our amended complaint creates no narrative, it just lays it out,” attorney Sam Aguiar told WFPL News. He is one of the lawyers representing Taylor’s mother Tamika Palmer in a civil suit against the three officers who shot at Taylor.
The 31-page document, filed Sunday, includes six pages detailing allegations about the city’s plan to redevelop the 2400 block of Elliott Ave. that led to aggressive policing and, subsequently, Taylor’s killing. The filing presents only one side and does not qualify as evidence.
“It’s the first piece of the puzzle that leads to Breonna dying,” he said. “And there are a lot of pieces of the puzzle.”
He said he has no problem with redeveloping west Louisville, where the Russell neighborhood is located. His problem is with using aggressive policing to further that development.
Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was killed after midnight on March 13 by Louisville Metro Police Department officers acting on a search warrant as part of a larger narcotics investigation. No drugs were found in her home. Her case has gained national attention as an example of unjustified police violence against Black people.
A main target of the operation was Jamarcus Glover, Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, who lived at 2424 Elliott Ave. His home and two others on the block—2425 and 2526 Elliott Ave.—were included in a batch of search warrants on March 12, 2020. Another warrant for 2605 Muhammad Ali Blvd. was not executed. The final warrant, for 3003 Springfield Drive, miles away from the Elliott houses, was for Taylor’s apartment, the complaint said.
Aguiar alleged the city was planning to redevelop the 2400 block of Elliott Ave. as part of its Vision Russell project to revitalize the neighborhood, which includes some of the lowest median incomes in the state.
In the filing, Aguiar noted that several of the large planned projects in Russell, such as the Passport Health Plan corporate headquarters and a previous attempt to locate a Walmart in the neighborhood, had failed.
The relatively recent development push in Russell has been met with enthusiasm from those seeking improved economic conditions for the historically red-lined area. But others who worry about rising property values and subsequent displacement have raised concerns about gentrification.
“The Elliott real estate development plans have been mostly obscured from the public. But the plans are big. The development, according to plans, will bring in modern, futuristic looking homes, a cafe, an amphitheater, a state-of-the-art fitness center and more,” Aguiar wrote in the filing.
He argued that police executed the search at 2424 Elliott Ave., and subsequently at Taylor’s apartment, under pressure from city officials. The document cited Mayor Greg Fischer among those who, Aguiar claimed, had sought to redevelop that block, “so that a high dollar, legacy-creating real estate development could move forward.”
A spokeswoman for Fischer, Jean Porter, called Aguiar’s allegations, “outrageous … without foundation or supporting facts,” in a statement.
“They are insulting to the neighborhood members of the Vision Russell initiative and all the people involved in the years of work being done to revitalize the neighborhoods of west Louisville,” she said.
Mary Ellen Wiederwohl, the chief of economic development agency Louisville Forward, said there are no set or published plans for the block. Options include a community land trust, which is a community-owned development tool used to provide affordable housing long-term, she said.
She said the goal is to provide clean, safe and affordable housing in partnership with community organizations.
“Elliott Ave. is a focus for us because, unfortunately, it has a high level of vacancy and abandonment in those properties,” she said.
Louisville Metro’s Landbank Authority acquired 2424 Elliott Ave. on June 5, according to public records. The Landbank Authority takes on and sells abandoned or vacant properties at relatively low-cost, hoping the buyers will rehabilitate them to usable condition, but that doesn’t always happen.
2424 Elliott Ave.
In late January, Louisville’s Department of Codes and Regulations notified the owner of 2424 Elliott Ave. that the property was to be cited as a public nuisance following reports of criminal activity there.
Weeks earlier, on Dec. 30, the Louisville Metro Police Department arrested Darreal Forest, Rayshawn Lee and Adrian Walker on drug and weapons charges following an investigation into that property at 2605 Muhammad Ali Blvd. Then on Jan. 3, police arrested Jamarcus Glover and Dominique Crenshaw on similar charges.
Gerald Happle, president of Law Mar Inc., which until recently owned 2424 Elliott Ave., responded to the public nuisance notice in a hand-written letter obtained by WFPL News. In the letter, Happle acknowledged the “seizure of guns, drugs and drug paraphernalia.” The letter is dated Jan. 29.
He wrote he had discussed the matter with the current occupants—whom he did not name—who said an inspection took place but that no arrests were made or illegal substances found.
Happle requested an extension to address the matter.
“If no agreement is reached we will of course file for eviction,” he wrote.
There is no public record of eviction notices filed against any of the men arrested in connection to the property in late December and early January.
The last paragraph of the letter asks, “Incidentally does the city have any program to purchase or accept donations of problem properties.”
Aguiar alleged Codes and Regulations was “tasked with conducting a joint investigation with PBI in efforts associated with the Elliott properties,” referring to LMPD’s Place Based Investigations Unit. The department describes PBI as focused on “identifying and disrupting crime place networks.” It is a part of the Criminal Interdiction Unit, which also includes the narcotics division.
This was all, Aguiar alleged, part of an increased effort to clear Elliott Ave. of residents to make way for the future development under pressure from Metro.
Tumblr media
In the amended complaint, he also presented screenshots of futuristic architectural renderings created by the University of Kentucky as plans for the block.
Wiederwohl said the renderings were part of a student project that was not paid for by the city. She said Elliott Ave. was presented to students participating in the west Louisville studio run by the University’s College of Design as a potential design project.
Asked by WFPL if he believed the city planned to erect such buildings on Elliott Ave., Aguiar said he believed the city intends to do “very modern developments” there.
He emphasized his concern was inappropriately using police to clear the way for development.
“We don’t want to lose sight of the fact that, yes, this started with a police unit dedicated towards Elliott, but had they still done their job and done their job correctly, it doesn’t end with Breonna Taylor dying,” he said.
Wiederwohl said the Office of Community Development, which contains the Landbank Authority and is part of Louisville Forward, has a “strong working relationship” with LMPD but declined to elaborate. Representatives for LMPD did not respond to questions for this story, including one regarding its working relationship with the Office of Community Development. The department has previously declined to comment on the case, pending an ongoing investigation. LMPD rarely closes investigations into shootings by its officers.
Wiederwohl also said Law Mar donated the property. Happle did not respond to a request for comment.
The Landbank Authority acquired the property for “One Dollar ($1.00) , and other good and valuable consideration,” according to the deed. Records from the Property Value Administrator list the price as $17,160, which Louisville Forward spokeswoman Caitlin Bowling said is the value of the tax write-off for the donation.
Bowling said the property was not a target of acquisition by the Office of Community Development prior to its donation because it was occupied and there were no liens on it. She and Wiederwohl said Metro aims to take possession of vacant and abandoned properties.
This year, the city has issued two building permits for the 2400 block of Elliott Ave., for electrical repairs. Since 2018, the city has issued five demolition permits for properties on that block.
The Landbank now owns nearly two dozen properties on the two-block stretch between 24th and 26th Streets, according to records from the Jefferson County Property Value Administrator. That’s up from eight properties on those blocks in Sept. 2018.
In the court filing, Aguiar alleged members of LMPD’s Criminal Interdiction Division were “deliberately misled” to believe 2424 Elliott Ave. was home to “some of Louisville’s largest violent crime and drug rings and that accomplishing the objective was critical towards reducing crime and violence in Louisville.”
LMPD Detective Joshua Jaynes wrote in an affidavit seeking the warrants for the raids conducted on March 12 and 13 that 2424 Elliott Ave. was a “drug house.” Last month, Jaynes was placed on paid leave given the questions surrounding the warrants.
Other Allegations
In the amended complaint, Aguiar raised other concerns related to the police’s actions.
He alleged police recorded the time of the raid on Glover’s home at midnight, then later changed documents to suggest it took place at 12:40 a.m., around the time of the raid on Taylor’s apartment. He also claimed LMPD called off, then subsequently, inappropriately, decided to serve the Taylor warrant based on a desire to apprehend two subjects they did not find on Elliott Ave.
Aguiar described LMPD’s intelligence related to Taylor’s apartment as “poor.”
“LMPD’s decision to reassemble a team to hit Springfield, despite having already apprehended (Jamarcus Glover), was unreasonable, sloppy, unlawful and without probable cause,” he wrote.
One of the three officers who fired at Taylor, Brett Hankison, was fired by LMPD last month over his actions during the raid. He is appealing that decision. Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and officer Myles Cosgrove remain on paid leave.
They fired their weapons in response to a warning shot from Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker, who was with her that night. He told police he and Taylor did not know who was entering the apartment by force and shot at them, believing them to be intruders.
Walker was initially charged with first degree assault and attempting to murder a police officer. Those charges were dropped.
Taylor’s family and their supporters have been consistent in their calls for all three officers to be fired, and to be charged for killing her.
Kentucky’s Attorney General Daniel Cameron is reviewing LMPD’s internal investigation to consider whether to bring criminal charges. The FBI is conducting its own investigation into the fatal shooting.
The civil suit alleges wrongful death, excessive force and negligence, and calls for punitive damages to be awarded to Taylor’s family.
