one of these days i'm writing some kind of essay about lost media and humanity's need to solve loose ends. people only care about it because its lost. people only know its lost because somebody cared about it. it's such an achingly beautiful concept. it's such a horrifying fate. it's about mortality and the traitor that is memory and about love. its about the human spirit and a new kind of folklore. all forms of media preservation are a race against the deprecation and physical decomposition of their storage medium. i hope there's a heaven for art.
#my posts#and i hope warner brothers execs never get to see its warm light#This post has been edited 5 times to add or change its wording. It’s original form is lost now too. Creation is an obligate carnivore#anyway id title it ''the lost the liminal and the scavenger hunt''#anyway im just thinkin thoughts#just watched a video about anime piracy and am feeling some kind of way again#GNU infinity train and every obscure out of print thing#also i just wanna play glyder 2 again you guys...#the other one that destroyed me is jacob geller how can we bear to throw anything away#also apparently people found that 80s song everyone was going insane about? and its the funniest possible ending?#i love how in humanity's indomitable spirit there is also inevitably the indescribably absurd and horny. i would have it no other way.

happy hanukkah! i was inspired by dragon quest monster sprites with this one. something about the stiffness and foreshortening that’s so charming to me
#did you know golems originated in jewish mythology?#jacob geller made a video about golems and judaism and its really good go watch it#i love that they made a jewish pokemon for the america region. it makes me feel like i belong here#also it was very hard to get this minimal color scheme to look nice and clean#leftysage art#pokemon art#golurk#pokemon bw

walk with me, tva as a haunted house; the lonely endless megastructures with corridors often leading to nowhere, labyrinthine hallways, row after row of cubicles, walls stretching into space that should not exist, elevators that go on forever, a house that is neverending and impossible. a house that is haunted by ghosts of something dead that doesn’t know it is dead, repeating the same motion over and over for eternity; no past, no future, only perpetual moment suspended in non-time
#no point to this except i would like to steal tva concept and take it out of mcu and then we can go buckwild about it#also yes i have watched that one jacob geller video for about 37 times what about it#loki series#the tva

the good news: finally started* my new bookbinding project (making a sketchbook for a birthday present for my brother—I think I'm going to do some variant of a sewn boards binding if I can find some kind of card with the right weight. thinking of doing some kind of loz design or at least a sword on the cover? also I found the scraps of gold leaf I scavenged from the trash this has so much potential)
the bad news: it's 1 am and the high of starting something is making me. not tired
*folded the signatures and that's all
#adventures in bookbinding#watched the new Jacob Geller video while I did it too which doesn't help those always make my brain run at full capacity#I saw a really cool looking book a few months ago that was just made with aluminum foil and textured underneath to look embossed kinda#and I've been wanting to try that#but then I found my black book cloth and I'm like ooh what if it was black except for a silver foil cutout#but now I could throw some gold on there too#I can be as experimental as I want bc if it looks tooo perfect it will be too intimidating for a sketchbook#so I'm fully expecting to mess up a little bit meaning I can be ambitious#the other option is to do a coptic binding but idk if I have enough of that kind of thread#luckily I had a ton of extra paper cut bc I miscalculated for the last book I did in the lab#I was just going to use paper from my big sketchpad but lucky me I didn't had to cut anything by hand this time around#also I am a genius and am currently pressing the signatures under a hefty stack of all of the yearbooks belonging to my other brother

guess who impulsively started another fic bc I watched one (1) very good video essay and immediately got hit with the first 5-6 chapters and had to start writing immediately?
this bitttchhhh
Time Enough to Risk It All is a multichapter, plot-focused fic revolving around Sawamura Daichi after he finds himself stuck in a 24 hour time loop.
While he initially sticks close to home, a week turns into a month into a year and Daichi is truly stuck - so why not? Why not seduce Oikawa? why not crash Shiratorizawa's practices? Why not get on a plane and fly around the world to spend 5 hours in Iceland?
When the clock hits midnight, he'll be in bed again.
So why not risk it all? Its not like it matters.
#Everyone go watch Jacob Geller's “Time Loop Nihilism” video for the direct inspiration of this if you can handle philosophy#haikyuu fanfiction#haikyuu fanfiction writer#haikyuu fanfic#sawamura daichi#fanfiction writer#daisuga fanfiction#haikyuu fanfic author#fanfic

obsessed with translating the concept of a resident evil save room to a different medium like fanfiction aus or a written form. like in the midst of all this chaos, this horror, this terror, there is a space and it may not be a safe room but it's a save room. the eye of the storm. that moment where the characters can catch their breath. the place where you are not guaranteed to be free from danger but you are at least further from it than before. those moments in stories where you stop and things feel almost normal. the bits of happiness achieved even in the thick of the tragic narrative. i'm not making sense but i'm like flat out crying over it like there's something there. there's something there. even in the worst of the danger there is respite. even in a world gone mad there is peace. even when our sun explodes the light will still go on. you know.
#zanna talks#FULLY aware none of this makes sense i watched the jacob geller why do horror games sound so beautiful video#and i have been completely eviscerated thinking about yearning to go back to something thatn ever was#WHY ARE HORROR GAMES SO PROFOUND

thinking about the conservative backlash to modern art. i saw this amazing phillip guston exhibition in the national gallery this summer and i just KNOW there are conservatives out there who would see his late work (pictured below) and think he wasn’t talented.
meanwhile his early stuff disapprove this entirety. bombardment below is genuinely one of the most technically challenging works i’ve every seen. how he managed a fishbowl lens while keeping proportions relatively accurate is truly incredible.
the thing about conservatives is that they think. art should be something that makes sense to them. that art should be something that should be understood. but set is supposed to make you feel. think. offer deeper explorations into the self. to offer deeper explorations into others.
#art#twinkling.talks#this is just me watching a jacob geller video again n remembering this incredible art exhibition#if u ever go to DC pls go to the national gallery u will not regret it it’s free and their exhibitions are incredible#watch jacob geller’s video who’s afraid of modern art pls

I've been thinking abt this by the way, like the specific Reoccuring Themes in my horror. It's kinda funny how I repeatedly go back to "if you mistreat your belongings they will return the favor" with Pokepastas, specifically the theme of "if you love a video game enough it will come to life but Watch Out". The reason this is funny is because I actually do have some weird beliefs (probably fueled by like. Autism or something) that objects/media do become Real if you love them enough, but I don't think they hate you for abandoning or mistreating them. Of course I do think you should treat all your belongings kindly but I think they're very understanding by virtue of the fact that things like toys and video games are created to be enjoyed by their owners. A Reason to Live was probably my most unfiltered expression of this belief and I'm glad it resonates with people because I do think Pokémon is more fun to play if you allow yourself to genuinely love your Pokémon, whatever that means for you
#anyway theres your monthly waxing poetic about why i love pokepastas im going back to turtles now /j#txt#btw the reason ive been thinking about this is because of a video essay i (re)watched#thoroughly recommend jacob geller's 'control, anatomy, and the legacy of the haunted house'

One of my least favorite feelings in the world is watching a really thoughtful and cogent and well-argued video about something by a creator who is clearly well-informed and has clearly done their due diligence and who takes the time necessary to make their points as clearly and cohesively as they can and backing those points up with thorough research, knowing that if I could just get my parents to actually watch it and listen they might at least get where I'm coming from a little bit, and also knowing that they would never have the good faith to sit and watch a 30+ minute YouTube video of one of them pronoun millennials talking at them just because I told them to.
#saw a jacob geller quote the other day where he was like#'unfortunately it takes a very long time to be right and not much at all to be wrong'#and i hate how accurate that is because i want to believe that my family members are smart enough people#that if presented with well researched facts and well-structured arguments they would like Get It#but JUST because it takes time to effectively make a solid case or argument#they will never be exposed to this stuff because they will just simply never sit down and listen for that long#bc they just don't want to#it's so fucking discouraging#and i don't even mean just with political stuff (though that is primarily what i mean)#i just watched a super good video of a guy who busts scammers for a living answering a bunch of questions about common internet scams#and my brother has been scammed pretty badly by a romance scammer in the past so i was like#this would be a great resource for him!#and i sent it to him#but is he going to watch a 36-minute YouTube video his sister sent him? almost certainly not#so like lmao why do i even try
