one of these days i'm writing some kind of essay about lost media and humanity's need to solve loose ends. people only care about it because its lost. people only know its lost because somebody cared about it. it's such an achingly beautiful concept. it's such a horrifying fate. it's about mortality and the traitor that is memory and about love. its about the human spirit and a new kind of folklore. all forms of media preservation are a race against the deprecation and physical decomposition of their storage medium. i hope there's a heaven for art.

walk with me, tva as a haunted house; the lonely endless megastructures with corridors often leading to nowhere, labyrinthine hallways, row after row of cubicles, walls stretching into space that should not exist, elevators that go on forever, a house that is neverending and impossible. a house that is haunted by ghosts of something dead that doesn’t know it is dead, repeating the same motion over and over for eternity; no past, no future, only perpetual moment suspended in non-time

insane how much the business/legal side of studying mortuary science is fully just ‘this will get you sued. so will this. that too, and the other thing also. actually even if you don’t do anything wrong someone will still sue you’

the good news: finally started* my new bookbinding project (making a sketchbook for a birthday present for my brother—I think I'm going to do some variant of a sewn boards binding if I can find some kind of card with the right weight. thinking of doing some kind of loz design or at least a sword on the cover? also I found the scraps of gold leaf I scavenged from the trash this has so much potential)
the bad news: it's 1 am and the high of starting something is making me. not tired
*folded the signatures and that's all

guess who impulsively started another fic bc I watched one (1) very good video essay and immediately got hit with the first 5-6 chapters and had to start writing immediately?
this bitttchhhh
Time Enough to Risk It All is a multichapter, plot-focused fic revolving around Sawamura Daichi after he finds himself stuck in a 24 hour time loop.
While he initially sticks close to home, a week turns into a month into a year and Daichi is truly stuck - so why not? Why not seduce Oikawa? why not crash Shiratorizawa's practices? Why not get on a plane and fly around the world to spend 5 hours in Iceland?
When the clock hits midnight, he'll be in bed again.
So why not risk it all? Its not like it matters.

obsessed with translating the concept of a resident evil save room to a different medium like fanfiction aus or a written form. like in the midst of all this chaos, this horror, this terror, there is a space and it may not be a safe room but it's a save room. the eye of the storm. that moment where the characters can catch their breath. the place where you are not guaranteed to be free from danger but you are at least further from it than before. those moments in stories where you stop and things feel almost normal. the bits of happiness achieved even in the thick of the tragic narrative. i'm not making sense but i'm like flat out crying over it like there's something there. there's something there. even in the worst of the danger there is respite. even in a world gone mad there is peace. even when our sun explodes the light will still go on. you know.

thinking about the conservative backlash to modern art. i saw this amazing phillip guston exhibition in the national gallery this summer and i just KNOW there are conservatives out there who would see his late work (pictured below) and think he wasn’t talented.
Tumblr media
meanwhile his early stuff disapprove this entirety. bombardment below is genuinely one of the most technically challenging works i’ve every seen. how he managed a fishbowl lens while keeping proportions relatively accurate is truly incredible.
Tumblr media
the thing about conservatives is that they think. art should be something that makes sense to them. that art should be something that should be understood. but set is supposed to make you feel. think. offer deeper explorations into the self. to offer deeper explorations into others.

I've been thinking abt this by the way, like the specific Reoccuring Themes in my horror. It's kinda funny how I repeatedly go back to "if you mistreat your belongings they will return the favor" with Pokepastas, specifically the theme of "if you love a video game enough it will come to life but Watch Out". The reason this is funny is because I actually do have some weird beliefs (probably fueled by like. Autism or something) that objects/media do become Real if you love them enough, but I don't think they hate you for abandoning or mistreating them. Of course I do think you should treat all your belongings kindly but I think they're very understanding by virtue of the fact that things like toys and video games are created to be enjoyed by their owners. A Reason to Live was probably my most unfiltered expression of this belief and I'm glad it resonates with people because I do think Pokémon is more fun to play if you allow yourself to genuinely love your Pokémon, whatever that means for you

One of my least favorite feelings in the world is watching a really thoughtful and cogent and well-argued video about something by a creator who is clearly well-informed and has clearly done their due diligence and who takes the time necessary to make their points as clearly and cohesively as they can and backing those points up with thorough research, knowing that if I could just get my parents to actually watch it and listen they might at least get where I'm coming from a little bit, and also knowing that they would never have the good faith to sit and watch a 30+ minute YouTube video of one of them pronoun millennials talking at them just because I told them to.
