f1 academy silly season this year is going to have a huge impact on the future of the series & women in single-seater motorsport as a whole. here’s some more information (cross-posted as a thread on my twitter, also dreamsrussell)
for some context, f1 academy is a women-only racing series that is most similar to formula 4. drivers are eligible to compete for two years; after that, they are no longer eligible because the goal is to help advance women through the junior series.
2023 was the first season of f1 academy. 2025 will be the first year where some drivers will no longer be eligible. this year, 2023 champion marta garcía & runner up léna bühler advanced to FRECA.
abbi pulling, both al quabasi sisters, nerea marti, bianca bustamante, jess edgar, lola lovinfosse, emely de heus, and carrie schreiner will not be eligible to compete in f1a in 2025. as far as i’m aware, none of their seats for next year have been announced.
essentially, 2025 is the first time we’ll see how successful f1 academy can be at promoting young female drivers. where should we be looking for them to be going?
well, FRECA and formula 3 are the most sought-after spots, though it is likely some will remain in formula 4 for another season as they hope to make a big enough mark to secure the funding necessary to race in these expensive series.
estimates place the cost of running a single f3 season at around 1.2 million dollars, and drivers who are associated with academies can expect to have an academy fund about half of that if they’re lucky.
another option is formula e, the electric series; nerea martí and chloe chambers were announced today to be testing for andretti later this year.
chloe chambers was the first f1 academy 2025 driver to be announced, and the haas-backed race-winner is joining red bull racing’s ford seat for 2025. it seems like more 2024 f1a rookies are likely to stay with the series for next year, but if other stand-outs like maya weug and doriane pin can secure seats in higher series, a move up isn’t out of the picture.
because f1 academy gets relatively little media coverage compared to other junior series, we don’t know a lot about who is expected to move into some of the seats opening up; nina gademan had one of the best wild card performances of the season and seems to be a favorite for one of them.
so why does this matter? i don’t think anyone reasonable should be expecting f1 academy to erase institutional bias against women in motorsport in a single season, but it’s important that f1a makes its mark on the media and their sponsors in order to secure its place going forward.
these girls have worked so incredibly hard, and susie wolff described on the red flags podcast this week what is already being called the f1 academy efffect; more young girls are interested in karting bc they female role models to look up to.
that's all i have to say about this for now, but basically i just want to make f1a fans and f1 fans in general aware of how pivotal this silly season for f1a is going to be, even if it doesn't get the media coverage that it deserves.

2025 Rookies
Alrighty, now that the Sauber seat has been officially filled, I wanted to do a quick look into the rookies for the 2025 season. I will put out official profiles for them once we get to the 2025 season, for now this will just be quick introductions.
Ollie Bearman for Haas
Tumblr media
Technically after Brazil, Bearman (AKA the super-sub) does not qualify as a rookie. However he has never officially had a full year seat, so I consider him one nonetheless. Bearman, a 19-year-old-brit, is a very well known person around F1 paddock. He is a student of the Ferrari Drivers Academy, and has been the reserve driver for both Haas and Ferrari since the beginning of 2024. Bearman is a little bit more known than other reserve drivers because he is one of the few that have had ample opportunity racing F1 cars. He filled in for Carlos Sainz in Jeddah, Kevin Magnussen in Baku, and Magnussen again at Interlagos. In these races he showed strong promise, specially in his first appearance driving with Ferrari when he achieved a P7 finish. He has competed in many series, including F4, F3, and F2. He found his highest success in F4, where he won the Italian Championship and the ADAC Championship. He most recently is competing in the FIA F2 Championship and right now is in 15th, having had a tough year and having missed multiple races to fill in for F1.
2. Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes
Tumblr media
Another well known rookie, and Toto Wolff protege (like George Russell was), Antonelli is the only rookie that is going to one of the big boy teams in 2025 and has been part of the Mercedes Junior Team since 20-19. The eighteen-year-old Italian will be the youngest driver on the grid in 2025. He has had a very strong career in single-seater, winning multiple F4 and regional championship and moving through the typical path from F4 to F3 to F2. His most recent series is the FIA F2 Championship where he is currently placed 6th. While he has had no actual F1 racing experience, Antonelli served as Mercedes' test driver in 2024 and has raced in a few free practices for them. He is well known by fans for his close relationship with the Mercedes team and for the fact that he is replacing 7X WDC Lewis Hamilton, who is moving to Ferrari.
3. Gabriel Bortoleto for Sauber
Tumblr media
The most recently announced rookie, and by far the least known. Bortoleto is a Brazilian driver whose connection to F1 comes from being part of Fernando Alonso's driver management company and being a McLaren Junior since 2023. He has a huge amount of support among current F1 drivers like Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri for his seat bid, and was even released by McLaren so he could take the chance to join Sauber. He has had a very strong single-seater career, moving up through the typical global pathway and winning the 2023 F3 season and most recently is leading the 2024 F2 season.
4. Jack Doohan for Alpine
Tumblr media
Doohan's name probably sounds familiar, but not in the F1 world. Doohan, the son of MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, has been a widely anticipated driver. Since 2017 he has had strong connections in F1, joining the Red Bull Junior Team that year and switching over to Alpine Academy in 2022. He also served as Alpine's reserve driver from 2023 to 2024, and has spend the last year focusing solely on his role with Alpine. While he has followed the typical global pathway of young drivers to F1, he has also participated in other branches, like WEC in 2022. While he had strong results throughout his career, Doohan has not won any championships since his karting days.
Alright, so those are all of our 2025 rookies, bar Red Bull doing something out of left field with their seats. I hope this was informative and that we can all welcome these rookies with open arms.
Cheers,
-B

goodbye to a world
reading between the lines of the various goodbyes and dismissals to logan sargeant
Pt. 3: Oscar (press conference)
full series
not a goodbye (in the traditional sense of the word) but a fucking statement. obviously. because piastri.
the loscar dynamic is absolutely FASCINATING. out of all the friendships in the grid, this one plays a special role: it reminds the audience that there’s so much more than formula 1, there’s so much more to f1 drivers than this stage of their career. most of us (spectators) have a broad conception of the “typical” driver backstory; rich kid with rich parents, got in a go kart at age 4, karting and then single-seater and junior series was their whole life and they climbed up the ranks like rungs on a ladder. i think a lot of people who only watch f1 (myself included) tend to focus so much more on the Pinnacle of MotorsportTM that everything else just seems like prep. even though most if not all of the drivers grew up either 1) racing each other 2) watching each other on tv, we don’t really think of these relationships beyond and BEFORE f1.
until loscar. because what draws them together? they’re not teammates. they’re not rivals. williams is so far behind that they’re not even competitors. in many way, logan is entirely “out of oscar’s league”.
and yet they have this endearing, sweet, playful friendship that’s exactly what it seems like: people who have known each other since they were kids, grown up together, watched each other become the person they are today. there’s a casual, domestic intimacy neither of them have with their teammates, even if those relationships are also going well, because there’s this history element.
which is recalled no more vividly than when oscar and logan are compared. as they are too often.
total polar opposites. f1 stories practically the inverse of each other. one was a promising young talent who f1 teams had been keeping an eye on for years that, once thrown in the car at that “wait! isn’t he just a kid??” age, immediately proved his worth as a future superstar. Future World Champion, to quote the official moniker. “look at him go! look at OSCAR PIASTRI!” he’s a prodigy, he’s a social enigma, he’s a raw force of pure and driven talent.
then you have the other promising young talent who one f1 team had been keeping a loose eye on for years. who’s never done any free practices or tests. who’s barely even dipped his toe into the waters of f2. who’s shown a lot of raw potential but more noticeably, glittering fancy sponsors. who gets chucked into a car as a last-minute, scrapping underprepared and thrown-together plan B after the previous f2 graduate fails to keep his seat. and, while oscar soared off into the stratosphere, logan flops IMMEDIATELY.
go fucking figure. it’s almost like people like max verstappen and lewis hamilton are exceptions to the rule, not the rule itself, and an underprepared rushed overwhelmed rookie is actually NOT in a position to achieve immediate stardom! in fact, maybe that’s the OPPOSITE of what they need! so, in loscar, we have the exception to the rule (oscar) and the rule (logan). but that’s not the solidified narrative; the story, how history will remember the two of them, is that logan was nothing but a pale and washed-out shadow. always. open and shut case.
what does oscar have to say about it, though?
Tumblr media
this was said to gp blog (great website); the full quotes from him are:
I sent him a text yesterday. He seemed okay. Obviously a little bit of a shock. Obviously it wasn't an easy time for him in F1. It was much more difficult for him than maybe I expected it to be going into F1. I think for me, his potential was much greater than what was on show in F1, for whatever reason it might be.
I know firsthand, being his teammate in the junior categories, racing him in basically everything, I know how quick he is. I don't think the change was completely unexpected...
Best of luck to him. Just a shame that, for whatever reason, he wasn't able to show everything that he's got. Because in the junior categories, he was genuinely one of the quickest guys I went up against. I think his potential is much greater than what some people have seen.
first of all, some BEAUTIFUL toeing-the-line from oscar here. he’s even more subtle than alex in that none of his words imply any sort of passive aggression or ill intent; the only emotion that’s really conveyed, in understated tones, is a mild perplexity about logan’s career and failure in general as opposed to its gut-wrenching end in question. the implications in his wording imply nothing more than a personal opinion, but the ambiguity itself is some massive shade. let’s take a closer look:
much more difficult for him than maybe i expected it to be- this is masterful. “yeah, that’s right. i’m the next-gen prodigal superstar talent with my future as a world champion pretty much written for me, and i’ve shown the skill to back it up, and not only did i know logan before the catastrophe of f1 but i regarded him with so much respect that i had actual expectations. his skill had become such an intertwined part of his character in my eyes that i just assumed things would go so much better. because i believed in him.”
his potential was much greater than what was on show in f1…- toeing the line again. balance. acknowledging both the reality and all the roads not taken. “i’m not making false claims. i’m not making excuses for him. i’m not blaming the car or the team or the lack of support or the disgrace or the mistreatment and i’m not challenging the results. i’m not talking about what happened, i’m talking about what could’ve happened. potential. i’m talking about everything that wasn’t on show– and by not on show i mean that his potential, his skill, his pace, him as a person was not seen or understood or respected or prioritized by anyone. i’m not saying ‘oh, one point in 36 starts is all anyone could do with x/y/z excuse’ i’m saying ‘you guys missed the point’.”
for whatever reason that might be/just a shame that, for whatever reason- fucking hell, this is harsh. this is practically an attack. “i’m not gonna make excuses, but i’m gonna leave this open. i’m not gonna call this bad luck or the way it goes sometimes or a bad break, i’m saying that Whatever Reason This Happened is not what should have happened. not a matter of chance or objective misfortune; this situation could have and should have worked out better and whatever obstacle got in the way of that was a matter of misjudgment.”
I know firsthand, being his teammate in the junior categories, racing him in basically everything, I know how quick he is- alex said something similar, about pace. “raw speed” he calls it. and it’s really interesting that his teammates, who learn firsthand about him as a racer, his driving style, his strengths, his weaknesses (whether they’ve been teammates for months or years) identify a specific trait/skill about logan rather than just making the empty claim that “he’s good” or “he’s better than this”. and this is very interesting coming from oscar in particular given his current teammate. lando isn’t the best starter or the best defender or the most coordinated overtaker, but even with all the areas he needs to work on he can still compensate for it by being really fucking fast. his pace is his defense; he gets clean air and boom, he’s fucking gone. obviously that’s an oversimplification but oscar directly competing against that and observing/absorbing that and bringing up the same category of skill in logan– even in flashback– can’t be overlooked. in addition: “yeah, i’ve raced against him in basically everything. you’ve watched him on tv in a backmarker team for a season or so? i’ve known him for YEARS. i know. i don’t care what you’re seeing, i’m the expert on this and i know.”
I think his potential is much greater than what some people have seen- shit, this is as close to passive aggression as he gets, but it’s still done so precisely and subtly that it’s almost an art form. i mean, leave it to oscar piastri to use the phrase “some people” and NOT make it sound like a straight up, poorly-veiled callout. try to use that in a sentence without seeming like you’re shit-talking someone, potentially in the room. this is part of the lovely passive-aggression classic: “….unlike SOME people” (sometimes while staring at them directly, depending on how passive you want the passive aggression to really be. so, he’s (in unofficial terms) calling out who– anyone who hasn’t seen logan’s potential. who have underestimated him. who have invalidated his situation and him as an athlete. this could be any category of haters– negative fans, petty journalists, the horrid type of reports who will ask questions like “what does it feel like to be the slowest driver in formula 1…”. and that would make perfect sense. almost perfect. if we thought oscar piastri paid any attention to the haters, his own or anyone else’s. if it was ever on his mind. so, people who haven’t seen his potential… what, like, team principals? the ambiguity in itself is simultaneously a direct implication and oscar piastri’s intelligence needs to be studied because it is sometimes terrifying.
oscar doesn’t make a statement on social media, doesn’t bring it up further, doesn’t make any sort of personal goodbye available to the media– of course he wouldn’t, not just because that’s incredibly private but also because he’s oscar and he’s basically kimi raikkonen (in this analogy lando is sunshine boy seb but that’s an idea for another post). oscar’s whole public image is that he doesn’t want to have a public image. he doesn’t give the media any more parts of himself than he’s contractually obligated to. what he does give is concise, serious, the strongest points in the fewest words. and because of the enigmatic, tantalizing nature of that approach paired with the fact that he’s a fucking brilliant driver, people listen to what he has to say.
so oscar has a lot more weight to throw around than alex. alex’s image is that he’s a cuddly sunshiney cat dad who is a living anomaly in that he’s a good driver and a total sweetheart at once. whether or not what he says comes from the heart (it does. he’s alex) the reaction can always be “awww look at alex he’s such a nice guy :)” and the focus is on the kindness of the gesture/praise/respect itself rather than what alex is actually saying. so if alex says logan had more potential, that’s alex being alex.
if oscar says logan had more potential, that’s a fucking statement. and if the media wasn’t coming for JV’s head at this point, oscar just gave them a diagram for how to build a guillotine.
beautiful.

Montreal
Je t'aime series
F1 driver reader x hockey player bf
When the Montreal GP & Eastern Conference finals fall on the same weekend, certain worlds collide….
The insta edit
Tumblr media
Notes: Takes place in 2024 so everyone is a year older - reader is an 01 baby so 23 & all the hockey guys are playing for their respective NHL teams. (For plot purposes, Montreal is the second last race before the summer break - still takes place in mid-June though) Danny, Mick & Seb are still on the grid because I say so & I’m trying not to have a breakdown over Seb being gone gone.
For Formula 1 driver y/n l/n, this weekend marks her return home as we head to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. We sat down with the championship leader to talk about what that means for her.
Thanks so much for talking to us today Y/n. How excited are you to be back home in Montreal?
I’m pretty pumped. It’s always nice to be back and have so much of my family be able to come. The track is always a special one to race on & I’ve had a few good races here before, so hopefully this weekend will add to that. The little break after means I can spend a few days here before heading into Silverstone so that’s nice.
Any exciting plans for those few days?
Definitely catch a hockey game! It’s hard to watch games live with the travelling & living in Monaco, so while I’m here I’m definitely going to get to the Bell Centre. It worked out really well that the Habs are playing on Sunday night & it’s such an exciting game, with it being Game 7 in the conference finals. Montreal fans are absolutely incredible so hopefully the boys can bring this one home! The city’s going to be pretty wild on Sunday, and hopefully I can add to the excitement with a win here too!
I never would have known there was a game this weekend. It’s not like there’s stuff all over the city. Hopefully they can win it at home! Actually, speaking of hockey, your dad played, correct?
Yeah, so he played pro in the US and then Switzerland and Germany. So, I spent about 8 years over there before moving back here permanently, and then when I was about 14, moved back over for racing. but Montreal is definitely home.
Did you ever consider hockey or were you always set on the formula, single seater series? And how did you settle on motorsport?
So, I played hockey growing up but once I hit 12ish I had to choose since both were getting more competitive and there wasn’t enough time. I would’ve loved to go pro in either, but F1 is where my heart is. I still play whenever I can though. Lance & I like to try finding rinks when we travel and have a little battle. I’m currently 4 wins up, just fyi. Or whenever I visit my best friend, we go out & have some fun, even though that’s not often. I’m not beating him unfortunately but it’s pretty hard to beat a pro when he’s working on his skills constantly and I’m playing maybe 20 times a year. As kids though I could whoop him. The decision for karting/single seater over hockey was hard, but I’d been hooked since I sat in my first kart. I think part of it was being able to travel all over racing & just experience so many cool things. And with Formula 1, there’s 20 spots, right? So, if you make it as a driver, you’re one of the top in the world. With hockey there are so many incredible female players already, and as we know not many in motorsport. I wanted to be able to inspire young girls in sports as well. I think I made the right decision for me.
My dad was a big F1 fan, so I’d been watching races basically since birth. We were living in Germany during the Schumacher era, so everyone was really into it and that definitely helped ha-ha. It’s kind of crazy that I ended up going through all the feeder series with Mick in the end & we obviously became good friends when his dad was one of the main reasons I started racing. And having him show up to watch races was insane! But yeah, once I sat in my first kart I was hooked! If three year old me who had that Schumacher Ferrari merch could see me now ha-ha.
Ah the Schumacher era, that’s how so many people got interested. And your best friend is a hockey player? I don’t know if that’s ever come up, so can I ask about that?
Ah so actually, our dads played together in Switzerland & bonded over being from Montreal, so once my parents moved to Germany, about two years after I was born, they still visited each other. The two of us spent a lot of time together as kids during those visits, especially playing hockey. We moved back a few years before his family, but they were always around in the summer & we stayed pretty close. We’re apart a lot but were both living our dreams so its pretty special when we can get together. he’s one of my favourite people so shoutout to Thomas. You’ll probably see him in the paddock this weekend since he’s around here somewhere.
That’s such a great story! What team does he play for, and for anyone who’s maybe looking at which team to support, who would you recommend?
So he plays for San Jose, the Sharks, but I’m a Canadiens girl all the way. You can’t grow up in Montreal and not get support them. We’re having a great season, so fingers crossed for Sunday! But I do support the Sharks, definitely my favourite Western team, no bias here ha-ha. I’ve met a lot of great guys through Thom too who play, so I do try and keep up with their teams, but Habs all the way baby!
Alright, there you have it folks. Y/N thanks for sitting down with us, good luck this weekend! I’m sure we’ll see you soon!
You shake Natalie’s hand & thank her for having you. Exiting the media pen, you start making your way back towards the Ferrari garage, waving at Lewis when an arm’s thrown around you shoulder.
“Ready for Sunday’s game?” Lance says, “Time to kick some Devil ass and then get the cup.”
“Yeah, I just have a race to win first” you stick your tongue out at him as he punches you in the arm.
“Your boy toy coming today?” You roll your eyes “yes he has a pass, so he’ll be around somewhere. There’s a bunch of them coming. Not sure when though…”
“YO MCQUEEN!” you hear from down the lane. “There it is” you shrug off Lance & speed up as Thomas comes running at you. Damn he’s quick. You meet in the middle and grab him in a hug. “tu m’as manque” (I’ve missed you) he whispers in your ear, squeezing the life out of you. It’s been a while since you’ve seen each other, mid-January at least. When you were still on break and made it to a game of his where you hung out for a week before heading back across to Italy for training. You talk almost every day though
“Missed you too Bords. It’s been too long. Congrats on your run though. You guys played really well.” It sucked that the Sharks got knocked out in round 2, but they had a good team. Next year they’ll have it. His phone starts ringing and he pulls it out.
“Ah shit, the idiots are lost.’ He rolls his eyes as you laugh.
“They’re at the Ferrari garage. We should probably go before they end up breaking stuff” We start off towards Ferrari, when Lance catches up to us. “Hey man, how’s it going?” The two have met before, when you were all kids in Montreal. They catch up as you walk over, when you notice a bit of a crowd. You nudge Thomas
“Those yours?” and point towards the commotion. You get there & see a few familiar faces. You run over to give Thomas’s sister a hug before turning to the hockey players gathered. You count five, but there may be more floating around. Thomas had 10 passes altogether.
“Sup boys” you give Brendan, Matty & Owen a hug, then do your handshake with Truss. You visited Michigan a few times when Bordy was there, so you got close with his roommates & friends. You managed to stay pretty off the radar since F1 isn’t as popular in the US, so you got some of that college experience that you missed out on. Plus, he’s brought you to the Hughes Lake house a couple of times so you got to know a bunch of the other idiots there.
“Y/n you traitor!” Lance calls from somewhere behind me. “What did I do?” You yell in indignation as someone spins you around to see Jack Hughes making his way towards you. “Ah Fuck off Lance, we all know he has no chance!” Cheers from people around tells you that there’s quite a few Canadiens fans in the paddock right now.
“Hell yeah they don’t” You see Cole behind him along with Luke Hughes & Phil.
“Is this everyone?” They nod “okay, come with me. Lance, I’ll see you later.” You lead the crew of hockey players into the Ferrari garage, taking them up to the hospitality area. “As nice as it is to see you all, why are all of you here?”
“Osheaga (Music festival – it usually happens in August but for the plot it’s happening in June) was last weekend, so we all just stayed, especially once Bordy told us he could get tickets. And we’re going to the game on Sunday” Briss pipes up.
“Yeah, I know nothing about F1 But it looks pretty cool so I’m excited” Luke says. You gasp, the blasphemy.
“How much time have we spent together Hughesy, and you still know nothing? I’m wounded” Dramatically you hold your hand to your chest. Your phone starts going off, your timer that your trainer set going off as Charles approaches you. He beckons you since he has the same reminder.
“Alright boys, I’ll see you later, but I’ve got practice. Ask any of the lovely workers here if you need a hand with anything. Peace out” You walk off with Charles, making your way further into the motorhome. Once you get to your driver room you start your usual routine. About 20 minutes in, as soft knock on the door interrupts you “babe? You free?”
You open the door & pull your boyfriend in. ‘“God, I missed you.” You press your lips to his, savouring the kiss. “ the minute I can I’m taking you out properly. I don’t care where, but we’re going out. Hopefully with something to celebrate” You wrap your arms around him and nod “sounds good. When are you leaving?” “Monday early afternoon” he pouts and he’s so cute you just have to kiss him again.
“Two more weeks then I’m all yours for the summer.”
“Deal. Now get back to it.” He slaps your ass and you continue your usual routine with the occasional commentary from him. He slips out a few minutes before you leave, heading down to the garage for practice.
Two successful practice sessions later, you’re done for the day. You’re chatting with Charles when Thom finds you. You introduce him around since he hasn’t met many of the boys, just Lance & Mick. The other hockey boys have left but you make your way back to the hotel. As much as you’d love to stay at home, it’s a little further out so you stay at the hotel with the rest of the crew. Once you enter, you spot a crowd exiting the restaurant. Ah, apparently the Devils are staying here.
You whistle, “damn, who let some losers in?” As others laugh. Jack flips you off, but someone else comes running over
“y/n/n!!” Nico hugs you. You knew each other as kids, his dad being involved for the team yours had played for. Whenever your family would visit the Bordeleau’s, you’d see him. You & T would bug him lots since there weren’t many kids to hang around with. “Can you introduce me to Sebastian Vettel?” He whispers in your ear. “Get out of here” you push him away.
The rest of the team us standing there, mouths open. “Sup McQueen” Luke waves. You’re going to kill Thomas for that nickname, but you wave back before dragging Thomas towards the elevator. You’ve got catching up to do & he knows that tomorrow you’ll be in race mode & not want any distractions.
“Where are the rest of the boys staying?” You ask him. Obviously, Jack & Luke with the team here, but he tells you that the rest of them managed to get 2 rooms in this hotel, so they’re close by. “My parents offered to let us stay with them, but we’ve been pretty rowdy so I thought this would be better.”
A few hours later you need to get ready & go to bed so you’re in top form for quali tomorrow, so Thomas heads to the room he’s sharing, wishing you luck beforehand. He knows that tomorrow you won’t want to see anyone until after qualifiers. You’re almost done your routine when Ring. A soft smile takes over you face. He always calls before he goes to bed, just to say good night. You do same & most of the time you miss each other so you have lots of cute voicemails saved on your phone.
“Hey superstar. This whole being in the same time zone thing makes it a little bit easier hey?” He chuckles “yeah babe, it definitely does. Hang on” you hear some shuffling on his end and then a door open. “Roommates kick you out?” you laugh as he huffs, “I don’t want to disturb them so I’m going to the conference room so I can facetime. How are you feeling for tomorrow?” The request pops up & you see him sitting in one of the rooms.
“Pretty confident. It’s a good car & it’s nice that everyone was able to come so I’d love to get a win for them. Think you’ll be able to sneak out tomorrow night?”
“Are you sure? I know how much you need your routine. I don’t want to mess anything up for you.”
“No, I want cuddles” you pout “and you know I sleep better when I’m next to you” you can hear the smile in his voice as he says “I’ll see what I can do. Now you’ve gotta go to bed so you can kick butt tomorrow. I love you & I’ll be watching.” He blows a kiss. “Love you too. Tomorrow night, okay?”
“Yep, I’m all yours. Ill text you before you go out tomorrow since I know I’m not going to see you. But you’re gonna kill it.” You lay down on the bed and just look at him.
“God you’re cute. I still can’t believe you’re mine.” He blushes, like he always does when you complement him.
“You better believe it. nearly four years in and I’m never letting you go.” Damn it now you’re blushing. “Okay Casanova, I really should go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Love you” you blow a kiss & hang up because you know from experience that you’ll just go back and forth for the next hour otherwise.
Saturday
You wake up fired up & ready to go. Moving quickly, you and Charles meet up & drive to the circuit. There’s a lot more people here today which you love. You go through practice & then it’s time for qualifiers. Q1 & 2 go smoothly, with you landing in the top five, but you want that pole position. It’s so much sweeter especially with this being your home race. As Q3 gets underway, that’s what you’re aiming for. Unfortunately, it’s only P2, but at least its only Charles in front. You know you can get ahead of him with the right strategy.
Meeting up with Thom & the crew at the hotel, you grab a quick dinner in the restaurant. You stop by the front desk & grab an extra key, slipping it onto your boyfriend’s pocket when you’re giving all the guys hugs. After about an hour you have to excuse yourself for a team meeting, and 2 hours later you finally make it back to your room.
You’ve just closed the door & are turning around when “BOO!” & you jump a foot in the air.
“Putain! Jesus Christ you fucker.” Your heart is racing a million miles as you take in the sight before you. Jack has half his body still in the bathroom but has fully on the floor, just about crying from laughter. “That’s not why I gave you the key, connard.” You say as you help him up. “I ha-ha couldn’t ha help myself.” He dissolves into another fit of giggles. You move towards the bed as he comes up behind you. Arms around your waist as he buries his head in your neck.
“This is harder than I thought” “I know, let’s just get through this weekend. A couple weeks then well be back at the lake with everyone who knows & we can do this every night.” He places a kiss at the junction of your neck.
“Promise?” you turn your head and give him a kiss. “Promise. Well talk about next season too. I’m sick of not seeing you for months.” He nods.
“you’re coming to the game tomorrow, right?” “Do you even have to ask?”
“Okay smartass, but will you root for me?” He sounds a bit sad as I turn in his arms. “I want you to win, I really do.”
“Oh yeah, not your precious Habs?”
“Wow. The sarcasm is strong with this one. I want both of you to win, but since that’s not possible, I’d say I have a slight interest in Jersey winning the cup.” “Only slight, eh?” he tickles my sides.
“I know how hard you’ve worked so yeah. As much as it pains me to say, and if you tell anyone else, I’ll kill you, but I do hope you win. If only so we both get one this weekend.”
You kiss him again before pulling him into the bathroom & running the bath. It’s your regular night before race routine, made much sweeter by him being there. “I don’t know if I ever told you, but Thomas was my favourite person that summer.” He mumbles into your hair as you sit in the tub.
“The one we met?” “Yeah, when he brought you to the lake house for a few weeks.”
Now your confused. You tilt your head back & raise an eyebrow “when you barely said four sentences to me?” he grins sheepishly.
“I was intimidated. You were the prettiest girl I’d ever seen & you drove fast cars for a living. It took me a whole year to gain the confidence to ask you out the next summer. And then you didn’t even show up with him! I was this close to asking for your number when you turned up a week later.”
“Aw, well I’m glad you manned up.” He sticks his tongue out. “I can’t believe that was five years ago. We were babies”
“Yep and now you’re stuck with me.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way”.
(They meet when they’re 18, but he doesn’t ask her out till 19 & now they’re 23)
You both get out & go about your night routine with some additional commentary from Jack. When you finally settle into bed, he wraps his arms around you from behind, pulling you to his chest.
“je t’aime” He whispers and a smile creeps onto your face like it does every time he uses his limited French. “je t’aime aussi.” You whisper back as you snuggle back into him.
Sunday Morning.
You wake to a kiss pressed on your cheek. “I’ve got to get back to my room before the team meeting. I won’t see you before the game but go kick some ass. I love you & we’ll be celebrating tonight” Jack whispers in your ear before pressing a kiss to your lips and leaving. About a half hour later your alarm goes off & you start your pre-race routine.  Thomas stops by to wish you luck before you head to the track with Charles & your trainer. Ten minutes before you need to head to the garage your phone pings. It’s a picture of Jack & Luke with the caption ‘good luck!!!’
You smile before heading out to get into your gear. Soon it’s time to line up on the grid & you hop in.
You settle in, ready to go as the countdown starts & the lights go.
“It’s lights out & away we go here in beautiful Montreal!”
59 laps in you sneak past Charles, an early stop strategy paying off in your favour as ten laps later you take the win. After pulling your car in behind the first-place stand, you jump out & soak in the noise. Cheers from fans and your team ring out, as you spot one person in particular.
Hopping off the car, you run over to the barriers and grab Thomas in a hug. It’s the first F1 race you’ve won with him there, so you know he’s excited. After letting him go you hug your engineers & team before being pulled into a quick interview with Natalie.
“Y/n, that was a beauty of a win, how are you feeling? What’s it like to win it at home?”
“Oh my god, amazing! Winning any day is an incredible feeling but to do it here, in front of my city, friends & family is so much sweeter!”
“Anything to say to the fans here today? Or for anyone watching?”
“Mom, I did it!! You told me I’d win here one day & here we are. To my team at Ferrari, Merci! Superstar, merci d’etre ici ce weekend. Votre soutien signifie la monde et je t’aime. Montreal, ca c’est pour vous, et ALLEZ LES CANADIENS!”
Cheers go up from all around as you just take it in.
After the podium ceremony, you make your way back to the hotel to change since you’re soaked in champagne. Opening the door to you room, you spot a box at the end of the bed & a bouquet of lilies on the bedside table. You smile as you make your way over & see a note on the box
Knew you could do it babe! Here’s a little something that I hope you wear tonight. See you on the ice ;)  xxx J
“I swear, if he put a Devils jersey in here..” you trail off as you see just that, but also a gorgeous lingerie set in the same bright red underneath. “that cheeky shit”, there’s a pair of new red converse in there too.
Putting the set on, you take a picture before finishing getting dressed & send it off to Jack, making a face. ‘Good Luck babe'. Then you finish getting ready & head down.
You meet the boys in the lobby & make your way to the Bell Centre. Outside, you meet your mum, who’s brought you one of your old Canadiens jerseys since you didn’t have one on you. You pull it on over the hoodie & make you way in. Someone on the marketing team meets you inside. After your interview aired yesterday when you mentioned going to the game, they contacted your team to ask if you’d like to do the ceremonial puck drop, which duh you would. You split up with the rest of them and follow the guy. You’ll meet up with Bordy & his sister at your seats, but you won’t see the rest of the guys until later. You wait, chatting to various workers as warmups happen and finally its time for you to go out.
Making your way to the tunnel, you hear PK, who’s on the ice
“We have a special guest for you all tonight! She’s back in town, she goes fast and she won today, it’s your favourite race car driver Y/N L/N!!!
You walk out on the carpet, waving at the crowd. “Well y/n, were glad to have you here to get us going here at the Bell Centre. But first, we have a little present for you. Your very own Canadiens jersey!” He holds up a jersey with my last name & racing number on the back.
“Oh my god that’s so cool. Suck it Lance, you’re not so special anymore!” you know he’s laughing from wherever he is in the arena. You take it & the puck he’s holding out.
“Let’s get the captains please.” Pk says as Nico & Nick skate towards you and get in position for the photo.
“Nick, kick their ass.” You say to the Canadiens captain before posing and then walking off the ice. Someone shows you to your seat, where you find Thomas & Jade. The energy in the arena is absolutely electric as the anthem singing comes to an end and the crowd cheers. Thomas passes you a beer, as someone taps you on the shoulder.
“Sorry, but would I be able to get a picture?” a young girl sitting behind you. You oblige & tell her you’ll get a better one during the intermission before sitting back down as the game starts.
The Canadiens take an early lead with a beauty of a goal scored halfway through the period. The games intense with lots of back and forth between the goals. The Devils manage to knock one in with just a minute to go and then its intermission. You send Thomas off for snacks while you take a few photos & sign some stuff and before you know it it’s time for period two. No one scores for a while, but there’s quite a few penalties being called as the game gets a little rougher.
The second period ends still tied 1 all. You & Thomas chat about summer while you wait for the third. You’re planning on going to the lake house and you know he’ll be there at some point, but he’s staying here in Montreal for a bit first. You grab a couple more beers before the buzzer sounds and were off for the final period. Canadiens score a minute in, then Jersey gets one.
Back and forth again, shot after shot on each net with no more success. The whole crowds on their feet, cheering & screaming for Montreal as the minutes count down.
“Mon dieux its going to be OT” you whisper as the final minute hits. The crowds are practically silent as the seconds tick. Ten seconds left and all of a sudden Jack gets the puck, making a breakaway to the Canadiens net.
Go, Go, Go!!! you’re screaming internally as the defense rush after him, but not fast enough. He shoots and it flies past the goalie’s shoulder. The crowd explodes with boos & angry yells, but you’re smiling.
Thomas nudges you “he’ll be happy about that"
“Yeah, he will” you say back, a soft smile on your face as the final buzzer sounds and the Devils all celebrate on the ice. The fans are none too happy but there’s nothing you can do. You take out your phone & text jack.
That was amazing superstar!! I’m so so proud of you. I’m going out with the boys, but I’ll see you later<3 text me whenever you guys are done if I’m not back.
“let’s get out of here” you turn to Thomas, knowing that Jack’ll be caught up for a few hours with team celebrations & media stuff. “Mick texted a while ago, a couple of them are downtown so let’s go celebrate your win” he says.
A pit stop back at the hotel to drop off jerseys & make sure you have all the boys then you’re making your way downtown to one of your favourite clubs. The drinks are flowing, drivers & hockey players are all around and lots of dancing means that a few hours pass in the blink of an eye.
About 3 hours in, you check your phone and see a message from Jack.
Got about 20 minutes left then I’m heading back. I’ll be in your room. See you in a bit xx
Looking around, you spot Thomas & Charles and make your way towards them. They’re chattering in French, but you butt in.
“Hey boys, I’m heading out in 10” Turns out most people are pretty done for the night, & you end up having a big group heading back. You all grab a couple of cabs back, and as you make your way through the lobby, you spot a piano in the corner.
“Ooh!!” say, making your way over to it & sitting down. “Is it okay if I play?” you ask one of the workers who nods. The boys follow you and stand next to the piano, staring at you. Except for Thomas. He knows that you can’t play for shit, all those lessons you took as a child being absolutely useless, so he’s laughing.
You crack your fingers and start playing la vie en rose absolutely terribly. The boys laugh as you stand up & bow. “Merci, merci! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a sexy man waiting for me” you wink before heading to the elevator & making your way to the room. He’s not there you, so you get undressed so he can see the gift he left for you.
The door opens a few minutes later. “Hey champ” you drawl as he comes into view.
“oh, fuck me” “I plan to” you respond jokingly. He pulls off his shoes & shirt before jumping into the bed next to you.
“You did it,” the smile on his face is absolutely massive “I did it. We’re going to the finals. Holy fuck”
The two of you lay there, lazily making out & cuddling until you fall asleep, too worn out for more. The next morning brings sad goodbyes with promises of more in a few weeks time.
F1 GOSSIP
Alright folks, we all know that Y/n L/n has been romantically linked to former F2 teammate Mick, who she sort of grew up with, and Charles Leclerc, her current teammate, for a while now. The Mick theory is more likely, as we’ve seen. I’ll show the evidence that has been collected here. But this weekend, a new player entered. Thomas Bordeleau, another childhood friend of Y/n & a pro hockey player, was in and around the paddock. Now we didn’t really know about this connection until an interview that y/n herself did on Friday, where she called him ‘one of her favourite people’. Apparently, we weren’t looking hard enough. Obviously, we had to do some digging, and the team here are starting to think that he may be the real deal when it comes to y/n’s heart. Let’s break it down.
Childhood friends – we found some photos from y/n’s early karting days, both in Europe and Canada. Know who makes an appearance in a few of them? Thomas. Now there aren’t too many pictures of them as teenagers, as it appears he lived in the US & obviously y/n had moved back to Europe for racing. However, we were able to find this picture, of Y/n at a hockey game with one of his jerseys on.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Thomas attended the University of Michigan and based on a video out of the paddock Friday, y/n knows a few of his college teammates. So, we did some more digging and found that y/n visited Michigan no less than six times over the 2 years he was there. And if that’s not convincing, take a look at these photos we dug up. Tell me that the way the two of them are looking at each other doesn’t scream in love (Photos of the two at various different parties looking cozy). Flirty comments left on posts, photos from friends that show the two cuddling or laying on top of each other, years of appearances in the back of each other’s photos, and a few references to a boyfriend in y/ns comments by close friends. All of these point towards the two of them being together, but the most damming evidence came out of Montreal. Lance Stroll was overheard asking y/n about her ‘boy toy coming’ mere seconds before Bordeleau made his appearance.
On Sunday, Y/n fought her way to a first place, and once she exited the car ran over to him at the barriers, practically flinging herself at him for a hug. Not two minutes later, when talking to a reporter she was saying thank you to the fans, and let this slip in French “superstar, thanks for being here this weekend. It means the world to me & I love you so much.” Now who speaks French & was there this weekend? Her best friend.
But that’s not all!! They made their way to the Montreal Canadiens game on Sunday night, where they lost in the final seconds. Several other players who appear to be friends of Bordeleaus & some of the guys who were playing in the game attended, however they watched from one of the boxes. y/n and Thomas, on the other hand, were smack dab in the centre of the action, accompanied only by his sister. Photos from the official sports accounts & fans were all over social media showing the two very close, joking around & cheering passionately for their home team. They were then seen out partying in the city with some of the other drivers and hockey players. I don’t know about all of you, but I’m pretty convinced. This isn’t what we were expecting, but it actually seems the most plausible. What are your thoughts?

Hi Al, what’s your opinion on F1 teams having to “sponsor” an F1 academy driver? To me it doesn’t seem to be that big of a step forward if it doesn’t eventually lead to female drivers being adopted into a junior/development team (like in Bianca’s case) and I wonder if the drivers not selected by the F1 teams will get a negative “reputation” for being not good enough to be picked by a F1 team for sponsoring
I don’t know, I have mixed feelings
I think it’s a step forward when it comes to shining a light on the drivers, for example if they post on their social media that the driver they sponsor got a certain result in a race or is racing that day might encourage more people to watch F1 Academy
I actually think it would be bad if teams had to officially take on a driver onto their development program or their young driver team, because some of these teams don’t have official development programs like Haas don’t and AlphaTauri don’t have their own one
To be honest, and this might just be me because I run on pure spite, but I feel like if I wasn’t one of the drivers picked up or selected by a team I’ll be pushing that much harder just to prove to them that they were wrong not to pick me
I think it’s a good thing that F1 are supporting fun teams and putting money towards it, but I still think that if they want to properly help this sort of thing F1 Academy as a whole is on the way to go about it
I think first of all, work needs to be done at the karting stage and the whole way down the karting stage. At the moment you’ve got the girls on track program (I think which is for girls who are just sort of at the age where they graduate single seaters) but if they really committed to it, they have to put programs in the whole way through karting and rather than having a dedicated women’s racing series why don’t they fund a team in formula 4, formula 3, and formula 2 to run female drivers

First driver confirmed for new female junior racing series F1 Academy | F1 Academy
The first of 15 drivers who will contest Formula 1’s new all-female junior series has been announced. ART Grand Prix, one of the five teams which will contest the inaugural championship, has signed 25-year-old Swiss racer Lena Bühler as the first member of its three-strong squad. Bühler began karting seven years ago having previously raced BMX bikes. She moved into racing cars in 2020, finishing 15th in the Spanish Formula 4 championship. The following year she moved into the Formula Regional European series with R-ace GP, managing a best finish of 20th. Her return the following year was cut short, but she returned to racing in the Formula 4 UAE series this year. Her overalls bore Sauber Academy logos at this week’s round in Kuwait, but no formal tie-up has yet been announced. Bühler said she was pleased to be joining “a team with a fantastic record”. ART has won multiple championships in other series and taken four current drivers to titles at Formula 2 (previously GP2) level: Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Nico Hulkenberg and Nyck de Vries. “It will be a great challenge for me and for the team as we learn more about this new single-seater,” Bühler continued. “I am looking forward to coming to grips with it. “This will only be my fourth year in a motorsport and I still have a lot to learn, but I am ready to give 100% both mentally and physically to honour the trust ART Grand Prix has in me, together with that of my partners without whom this adventure would not be possible.” ART will face competition from MP, Rodin Carlin, Campos and Prema in F1 Academy. Team principal Sébastien Philippe said entering the series “corresponds perfectly to the philosophy of ART Grand Prix, which is to help young drivers climb the ladder of the junior formulas which lead to the highest level of motorsport.” “The team will do everything sportingly, humanly and technically possible to take up this new historic challenge with Léna,” he added. This is a very large industry and these numbers are small right now but the manufacturing capacity will increase by the end of this week we anticipate to probably one percent of the total which isn't bad we're still in about 60% of what we want to be at or 1% is pretty good so we have 61%. It is going to increase dramatically the following week because so many people are going to do it they see it and they have to do it. Megan Merkel is beginning her approach on the lawn mower car and golf kart cars. There are many many MIN I and she is going to go ahead and do the small ones but really she's going to do the mini Cobra. And it is smaller but not much you would look at it and you wouldn't know. She wants to do the mini Lambeau because her son and daughter are nuts about it and it would be inexpensive and you could probably buy it on a site it's like Chinese and people think it's made in China so they might try it because of that and it'll be inexpensive. And it would say dot rating and have the papers it's really nice. It's a great idea to put it online and set it up like a Chinese site and it's American and people could still get it I mean it's really fun and say that the parts are available in America and you could list parts at some point just start adding parts to what's available when you get established and that's how you do it so you don't have someone take it over. We're going ahead with our ideas but this one is moving ahead fast production reaching 1% by the end of this week next week sorry it would be more like 4 to 5% and that includes the crappy cities but we think that 30% will still hold in regular cities. B G has the Potential to be the lead to be the head person if he finds a model that's inexpensive and he might have Megan Merkel do it and he would be the biggest 'cause he can get it done and Meghan Merkel he says we would have to use a car chassis and she might wanna start with that a lawn mower thing is for people who are her kids. And the small compact sedan so front wheel drive but there's tons of cars that would work and our son says you can make like a tone down version of his super car but still have the basic shape but make it so it doesn't look asian and it's thinking about it and there's a couple that he likes or he could make a mini version but a 4 seater because they need to get around and he's gonna talk to them it's a good idea and he could do with a drop on with the roll cage and cage already built and attached in the interior finish is done on the roof and side panels and it doesn't take long to put it together and you can sell it as a kit and that's what people wanna do but she says she wants to assemble it it's not a bad idea because it's less annoying and it causes less problems and it doesn't have people all over the world calling the suppliers and annoying them that's a great idea we like that and it's good and the car would be smaller the compact however is only 96 inches versus a 107 inches and we think that BG is using 96 inch vehicles and he says he is and the model would be more like the Irish named car company mcclellan which is the slick version and it looks a little Asian from behind and he would fix that but it would be front wheel drive. It would still go stupendously fast and our son and daughter are beaming because it's their thoughts on the manner and it's a perfect vehicle it's really not too conspicuous and it would have seating for 4 really kind of tight but you could put things in it and people want that and they want it pretty quick and it would have two versions and it would be price difference the first one would be front wheel drive the second would be mid engine and the mid engine would go faster and they list the stats. This is gonna be incredible. It's a front engine version might go for around$45,000 and the mid engine would be about 65,000 and that's with the 200 horsepower engine they do they did make a lot of those and they still go to the period because they carry loads and four people. So we're gonna print
So we're gonna print

Summary: Having a crash at Spa leads everyone very worried due to someone who they have already lost there..
Requested: Yes, by anonymous: Can I request a Charles one where the reader is his little sister and she is a driver in F2. She has quite a big crash and something happened to her radio and they nobody knew if she was okay or not. Everyone gets scared as they have already lost Anthoine there. Thank you, but please only write this if your comfortable xx
Words: 1.4K+
Series
Madelyn Leclerc, if you are a fan of formula 1 you will recognise that last name. She’s the youngest out of her 3 brothers and as basically grown up into the world of F1.
She firstly watched her older brothers karting until she realised she wanted to do that as well. When Madelyn was 4 she started but didn’t get into single seater until she was 7 years old.
When Madelyn was 11, she had to move away from her family due to none of the junior categories wouldn’t let her race due to her being a girl. The Leclerc family did all the could you try and let her race but it never worked.
Madelyn had a hard decision to make, if she wanted to continue karting she had to leave her family and travel to different countries to race. It was hard for her, but she knew that she didn’t want to quit.
After 2 years of travelling to different countries, and winning many junior championships. Madelyn had caught the eye of FDA. The Ferrari Driver Academy, a place her two brothers were already apart of.
The three Leclerc siblings, we back together..
~||~
Madelyn had already had a good weekend, she had won the sprint race and now her aim was to also win the Feature race. The youngest Leclerc was outside her garage warming up with her trainer, Milo.
Milo and her have known each other for years. He was the one who looked after her when she was travelling around the world for those two years. Soon enough, when Madelyn got into F4 she asked him to be her trainer and he agreed and the haven’t looked back since.
“Any other of the family here this weekend?” Milo asked. “No, sadly. Arthur has a race somewhere else and Enzo is with him and Mum isn’t here,” Madelyn replied. “At least Charles is here” Milo added as she smiled.
“Crazy it’s been 3 years ain’t it?” Madelyn said quietly. “He would be very proud of you, he’s always protecting you when your on the track” Milo replied. “And everyone else as well” Madelyn added.
“C’mon, let’s get you in the car and on the track eh?” Milo said. “Let’s do it!” Madelyn replied.
~||~
“-Ohhh no!! That’s an awful awful crash and it’s looks like it’s the Prema car of Madelyn Leclerc. Definitely a red flag, gosh that car is in pieces..”
“Maddie? Are you okay?” Her race engineer asked.
“…..”
“No answer on the radio from Madelyn. The medicals staff are quickly on the scene and are are already there. That was awful to watch, that’s given a big shock around the paddock and mainly to F1 paddock as well”
Charles face dropped while he was in a middle of an interview and saw everything that just happened. “That was Maddie, right?” He asked as they nodded. “I got to go,” Charles said he ran out the media pen and started to make his way to the Prema garage.
“Charles!” Pierre called as he caught up with the Ferrari driver. “You need someone with you, my team are fine with me coming” Pierre said as they both got into the F2 paddock. “Thanks Pear, I know Maddie is like a sister to you” Charles added as they walked into the Prema garage.
“We don’t have any information Charles, we are trying to get ahold of her” Milo told him. “She has to be okay, I can’t lose her..” Charles mumbled. “That’s the only a metre away from where we lost Anthoine..” Pierre whispered.
All the F2 cars were back in the pit lane and a lot came up to ask for any information on Madelyn but nobody knew anything. Even some F1 divers came down as well, that included: George, Alex, Mick and Lando.
Everyone kept staring on the screens, but all their faces dropped even more when a fire started. “Maddie!!” Charles shouted as tears started to fall down his face. The boys tried to calm him down, but Madelyn was like a little sister to them as well..
“Fucking hell..” Pierre mumbled. “I can’t loose her! Please, I need her to be okay!” Charles mumbled and sat down and buried her head in hands as the boys sat down next to him as well.
“Charles, Arthur is on the phone. He wants to speak to you” Milo said as he came out the garage and gave him the phone.
“—all we know everyone is that Madelyn is still in that car and it’s caught on fire now. The F2 race will not resume and has they have decided to cancel it,”
“Is she okay?! Please tell me she is, we can’t loose her Charles!” Arthur desperately asked. “She’s still in the car, they have also decided to cancel the rest of the race..” Charles added.
“Charles, you need to stay strong alright? She’s a fighter remember and Papa, Jules and Anthoine is watching over her too. I need to try and calm Arth and Mum down just keep us updated okay?” Enzo’s voice came through.
“I know she is. I’ll give you any information when I get it” Charles added as he ended the call and gave the phone back to Milo. “They’ve put out the fire now” Pierre said as Charles kept his eyes on the big screen.
A few moments later, there was a big cheer and clapping from the crown as Madelyn was out of the car and was hopping on one foot into the ambulance. Before the doors closed she gave a thumbs up to the camera.
Charles was pulled into a hug by all the boys and then by all the Prema team. A big sigh of relief came from him and he smiled slightly. He was so happy his little sister was okay.
“Thank you Papa, Jules and Anthoine…” Charles mumbled as he looked up to the sky.
~||~
When Madelyn got into the medical centre, they instantly wrapped up her foot and put a cast on it as they knew it was broken. She had to go through a few more tests to make sure everything else was okay.
She passed all the tests and after being in a crash like that, and the only damage was a broken foot and a few bruises and cuts. Maddie was given crutches and was allowed out the medical centre.
Charles was right there when she got out and hugged her tightly. He buried his head on her shoulder and Maddie could feel it getting wet. “Charlie…I’m okay, I’m so sorry for worrying you” Madelyn whispered into his ear.
“I was in a middle of an interview when it happened, I rushed over here and when they said they had no information on you—then when the fire started—then the race was announced that it was—” Charles said in one breath but Madelyn cut him off.
“Hey, I’m okay I’m okay. Papa, Jules and Anthoine was there and saved me. I’m never going to leave you, your my older and favourite brother” Madelyn said smiling. “Don’t tell Arth and Enzo that” Charles added making them both laugh.
“I love you Mads” Charles said. “I love you too Charlie” Madelyn replied as he left a kiss on her forehead.
“There they are” Hervé smiled looking down at his children.
“My godchildren..” Jules added.
“My best friends” Anthoine said.

“Are you okay?!” Ollie asked his girlfriend as soon as she accepted his call. “Oll, calm down. I’m fine I promise you” Madelyn said.
“You scared me so much today Lyn, Arth was in pieces as well” Ollie added. “Charles was awful as well, I’m going to speak to Arth now” She added.
“I’ll let you go do that, rest okay? I’ll see you soon I promise!” Ollie added. “Focus on your race love, see you soon” Madelyn replied.
“I love you so much, Lyn!” Ollie said. “I love you more, Oll” Madelyn replied with a smile as Ollie ended the call.
She was okay..

i've being seeing hate thrown guanyu's way, and he really doesn't deserve any of it at all. i've also seen ugly comments about "chinese money" which i won't repeat here. but i felt that as a chinese person i wanted to talk about this entire situation.
zhou guanyu was born in shanghai to a presumably well off family (as i believe he has a younger sister, and prior to 2016 in china you'd have to pay a fine and suffer some other socio-economic consequences if you had a second child). his relationship to his sponsor weichai, providers of that alleged $30M, is far more similar to the relationship checo has with his sponsor carlos slim, rather than, say, nicky and sofina foods, which is essentially his dad's business.
you don't just attract wealthy sponsors like that. guanyu proved to be enough of a talent that he was signed to the ferrari driver academy when he was still in karts. in his first season of single seaters in the italian f4, he beat robert shwartzman to the rookie title and was vice-champion overall.
it's true that as his career progressed (3 years in euro f3 followed by 3 years in f2), his results on paper don't seem very spectacular. but he's not the only one on the grid with results of a similar calibre. nicky similarly spent 3 years in f2 (4 years if you count gp2) before finishing 2nd and then going to f1. drivers have been promoted to f1 for less.
writing off guanyu's signing to alfa romeo as "money talks" or some big conspiracy to "tap into the chinese market" is doing him a disservice. he's not the fastest guy out there, but i have watched his past seasons in f2 and truly believe he has good racecraft, despite suffering from inconsistentcy. he's been alpine's test driver for a year or two now, so it's not like he's entirely void of f1 experience. and also. we are not a market to be invested in. we are people who genuinely love sport.
we have to realise it's not as easy for an asian driver to make it onto the motorsports scene in europe. it involves leaving your home and getting used to not only new languages but also an entirely different culture.
growing up in a predominantly chinese society, the few of us who did know about motorsport found it very far removed. it didn't even cross our minds that racing cars was something we could do, because, well, those guys in those cars are different. 4 or 5 years ago i wouldn't have thought a chinese f1 driver could be possible. but today it has happened. and for that we are happy and proud. why wouldn't we be?
and most importantly, guanyu is not responsible for alfa romeo's decision and their handling of this entire situation as a whole. no one's pointing a gun at fred vasseur's head. you might think someone else is more "worthy" of the second alfa romeo seat. but alfa romeo had weighed all the factors and decided guanyu was best. it's not guanyu's fault they chose him. your hate is misdirected. i ask you all to be kind.

Wildest Dreams Chapter 2 - It’s Nice To Have A Friend
Chapter summary:  Phoebe ages out of karting and gets ready to compete in Formula Renault after having joined the Red Bull Racing driver academy. She turned Mercedes down, but she still managed to gain a mentor in Susie Wolff, another female driver who is currently one of Williams' test and development drivers. Even so, now that she's moved up to actual single-seater racing, a lot changes. More pressure, more expectations, more time away from home and school. Somehow, though, it’s fun.
Chapter word count:  3,435
Author’s note: I’ll put notes/references about each chapter here, because a lot of these took some research.
Anyway, the Schlossplatz is a big historical public square in Stuttgart, with a big palace that was rebuilt. There’s a Christmas market there every year.
Phoebe competed in both the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup and the Eurocup series in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The results/schedules for the actual races can be found here: 1 2 3 4
Previous Chapter
Stuttgart Mitte, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany March 14th, 2013
The next month passed quickly. Arrangements were made with Susie Wolff to meet her and her mother for lunch. Bee took the day off of school for it, and her mother took a few hours off of work. Susie suggested a restaurant in Stuttgart’s city center, near the Schlossplatz, that she said had good food.
Bee and her mother took the bus from their house in the Degerloch neighborhood to the Schlossplatz and walked to the restaurant from there - Josephine said it was easier than trying to find parking near the city center, even in the middle of the week, even though the bus ride would have taken twice as long as driving did. Either way, Bee was excited about going to the Schlossplatz - it was her favorite part of the city, with its wide open square and the gorgeous Neues Schloss. During the winter, she loved coming to the outdoor skating rink they set up here, and going to the Weihnachten during Christmas.
They found the restaurant, which was a German restaurant that served mostly tourists, which struck Bee as odd for some reason - it wasn’t as if Susie was a tourist, per se.
When Toto mentioned his wife being a professional racing driver, something clicked in Bee’s brain. She remembered going to DTM races when she was younger when there was a woman on the DTM grid named Susie Stoddart. The image of her was burned in Bee’s mind - a blonde woman that drove a car with a pink livery. It was hard not to notice one of the only female drivers driving a bright pink car, but she never stood out in Bee’s mind beyond that, as her results were never exceptional, at least when Bee still kept up with DTM.
She and her mother stepped inside the restaurant (“Carl’s Brauhaus”) and Bee recognized Susie immediately. She still looked the same, more or less, as she did the last time Bee had seen her at the Hockenheim DTM race two years ago. Susie looked up from a menu and waved at them Bee and her mother stepped up to the host stand. She stood up and offered a handshake to Bee and her mother as they approached the table.
“Hello! I’m Susie Wolff, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, too. I’m Josephine, and this is my daughter, Phoebe.” Josephine put her hands on Bee’s shoulders, encouraging her to step forward, like she was shy. Bee thought it unnecessary - she wasn’t afraid of this woman, or anything.
Bee offered her hand, “You can call me Bee, though. Most people do.”
“So, Bee - ” Susie said as the three of them sat down. “From what I hear, you’re a pretty good racing driver, at least in karting. Toto has told me a lot about you. He said he really enjoyed meeting you.”
Bee blushed a little. “Thank you… I liked meeting him, too. I feel bad I ended up going with Red Bull, I hope he wasn’t upset.”
“He wasn’t, he understood your reasoning, but I think Niki - Niki Lauda, he’s managing the team with Toto - was a little confused. I told him that it’s different to be a woman in this sport, and people would find any reason to scrutinize you being in it. If you didn’t want to join Mercedes because your father works for the company, because Red Bull is better-established, and you had another option, that’s perfectly reasonable to me. Anyway -”
Susie picked up her menu. “I hope you don’t mind that I picked this place. I wouldn’t normally get something like all of this heavy Swabian food, but I haven’t been to Germany in a while, and I quite like the food in Stuttgart. Order whatever you’d like, this is on me.”
“Oh, that’s very kind of you, thank you.” Josephine said. She and Bee both perused the menu and a waiter came over to take their order.
Susie put in her order while Josephine told Bee what she wanted, to relay to the waiter in German. Susie looked at Bee with a puzzled expression.
“Sorry,” Josephine explained, noticing the way Susie was looking at her. “My German isn’t that great. I can get by, and I can read it better than I can speak it. Even after living here for ten years, I can’t seem to get a hang of it. Bee learned it in school when she was a kid, my husband - John - uses it at work every day, but I work for an American company that has an office here in Stuttgart, so everyone just speaks English. Sometimes Bee has to translate.”
Susie nodded. “It’s hard. When I started racing in DTM, I didn’t know any of it, but they told me I pretty much had to learn it if I wanted to stick around. Luckily, I was living in Switzerland then, so I picked it up quickly, but it’s all I was using every day.”
All three of the women chatted a bit about everything - how the Stallards came to live in Germany, Bee’s karting career, and school.
“So, let me get this straight - you live here in Germany, but you go to an American high school?” Susie said.
“Yes,” Bee said. “I went to a German primary school and then on to a Gymnasium, but I never really fit in that well, so I changed to the school on the army base last year.”
“Plus,” Josephine said, “For some reason, schools here in Baden-Württemberg have classes on some Saturdays, and that just didn’t work with Bee’s racing schedule. There’s so many weekends where we’re out of town for karting races that it just wouldn’t have worked if she’d gone to a German school.”
“And if I end up going to college, I’d like to go back to the US for it. So I don’t really need the Abitur, the diploma you get from going to a Gymnasium, but I’m still not sure if that’s what I want to do. If I can’t make it in racing, I will. But I’d like to be in racing for as long as I possibly can.” Bee said.
Susie looked at her thoughtfully.
“That brings up a good point - do you have any specific goal you’d like to achieve? How far do you want to go?”
“Well… I’d like to make it to F1 someday. I know it’s going to be hard. But… that’s my goal. If I can’t make it that far, I’ll figure things out. But… I just know that I want to race. It’s all I’ve wanted to do since I met Sebastian Vettel.”
“She went to the German Grand Prix in 2011,” Josephine interjected. “Her dad managed to get pit lane passes through work, so she met her favorite driver. Since then, all she’s wanted to do is become a racing driver.”
Susie smiled at her. “I felt the same way when I watched Jensen Button during a Formula 3 race my parents took me too. Racing was all I wanted to do after that. I think you can do it. It’s going to be difficult. It has been for me, but I think things are maybe starting to change."
Bee absolutely loved meeting Susie. They had a lot in common. Susie gave Bee her contact information and told her to call her any time she needed advice. They talked about her upcoming step up to Formula Renault. Bee had been fortunate enough to have landed a seat on a team and the sponsorship from Red Bull to compete in two series - Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup series and the 2.0 Eurocup series.
She was surprised that it didn’t seem difficult to find a team willing to take her, but this was no doubt due to the influence of her coming with the sponsorship of the Red Bull academy. She’d also been lucky enough to end up with a German team, so she wouldn’t have to move away from home, like she’d known a lot of other drivers ended up having to, especially if they weren’t from Europe.
The next few months before the new racing season started in the spring were agonizing. Bee had effectively aged out of karting and hadn’t raced in months. She started working with a fitness trainer from Red Bull to try to put on some muscle, especially in her neck. There was also the PR and media training, and occasional trips to Milton Keynes in the UK to visit Red Bull Racing headquarters for meetings and events that she had to participate in. On top of that, with the arrangements she’d had to make with her school around her race schedule, she’d have to go to summer school to get ahead for the upcoming school year, as she’d be gone almost each weekend the following fall.
It wasn’t all dire. One of her trips to Milton Keynes for PR purposes was to finally get the race suit and helmet she’d been fitted for, and to have publicity photos taken for the Red Bull website. She could hardly believe it when she’d put the suit on and looked down at herself wearing it. It was magnificent. It fit her far better than any of her karting suits had, because she’d always had to buy ones made for boys - there just weren’t any options for girls, and it had been mostly fine until she’d hit puberty and began to develop. Her karting suits would always be too baggy in some places and too tight in others. This one had been made to measure, specifically for her.
She loved everything about it - the spectacular navy blue, the red and white stripes going up the side, the American flag embroidered at the belt with STALLARD next to it in white letters. She’d also been fitted for a helmet and a HANS device, which she found strangely comfortable. She had heard some drivers found the HANS restrictive, but she sort of liked the feel of it.
She almost didn’t want to take her racing gear off after the photoshoot and filming her introduction video was done. She admired herself in the mirror when she first tried it on, imagining herself on a Formula 1 podium, Sebastian Vettel standing on the second step, as they showered each other with champagne.
Bee made sure to keep in touch with Susie and Toto, and they were kind enough to invite her to visit when she had to be in the UK if they were home, because their home in the UK wasn’t very far away from Milton Keynes. It seemed that almost all of the motorsport people and teams she knew of all were around the same area of England, which made sense when she realized where the infamous Silverstone Circuit was. Bee had started feeling a bit of the pressure of the realities of being an up-and-coming racing driver, but being able to talk to Susie, who had been in her shoes before, helped quite a bit.
By the time testing time for her team came around, she was nervous about driving a proper single seater car instead of a kart for the first time. There wasn’t much to worry about, though, as she took to it like a duck to water. It was more enclosed than the kart, like climbing into a small bathtub, but she didn’t mind it so much. She had a naturally slight frame, so that helped. It almost felt kind of comfortable, despite having absolutely no room for her elbows, and the fact that she was sitting in a reclined position. It was a good thing she wasn't claustrophobic.
She also loved how it handled - also different to a kart, but in a good way. It took a few laps to get used to the feel, and the way she had to orient herself in the car, but she began to put in some very impressive lap times. By the time she was done, she had heard people whispering up and down the paddock about the “American girl” and her times. It felt like validation.
Finally, the actual racing season started. Her school year ended a little early due to the relatively brutal travel schedule she had coming up with competing concurrently in two series. It wasn’t uncommon - most of her gridmates would be competing in both. In her first month she’d be going to Italy and Spain, with trips to the UK for team business in between.
On one of these trips, she got to meet Sebastian Vettel at a team event. She had met him before, once, at the 2011 German Grand Prix. Her father took her for her birthday and through some stroke of good fortune, had obtained pit lane passes. He pulled some strings at work, apparently. But then, she was just a fan who happened to be in karting. He was incredibly kind to her then, but now she was his teammate, in a sense. She felt so nervous about it - where most girls her age had posters of One Direction on their walls, she had posters of Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull gear. Her nerves were not helped because he’d since developed a bit of a reputation of being a bit cocky, but he was nothing but kind to her when they talked. They switched between English and German, which Bee thought was fun. Sebastian said that he remembered meeting her a few years back, and was happy to see she’d stuck with racing. He told her that he was excited that she was getting started in single-seaters, and said that he hoped she would be able to do well. They talked occasionally when they were both in Milton Keynes together, and in a few months, Seb ended up becoming a sort of friend. He always made sure to say hello to her whenever he saw her.
Her first race was at Monza. It was her first time in Italy. The idea of racing on such an old and venerated track made her a little nervous. It was the first race that she’d ever seen Sebastian win. Watching him win in Monza was the moment that Sebastian became Bee’s favorite driver. She’d seen it so many times on TV, she’d never imagined she’d actually race on it one day.
Practices weren’t so bad, but by the time she’d lined up on the grid for her first qualifying round, she could feel her heart pounding so hard that it felt like it was trying to escape her chest. Susie had given her some advice to close her eyes, take deep breaths, and try to visualize the racing line around the entire track, turn-by-turn, to distract herself from the nerves, and to make good use of the formation lap to try to settle into the pattern of the turns.
When it was time for the race to start, she felt better. After she started, her body almost felt like it was going through the motions automatically. It was delightful, and the result was delightful - she qualified in P7, which was entirely respectable for a rookie driver. She was the highest qualified rookie to boot. Both of her races that weekend made for equally respectable results - P8 in the first race, P4 in the second race - just shy of a podium. Even so, it felt incredible.
By the time she got home from Italy, she could barely keep up with all of the nice messages she got. Susie had called her the day after the race to congratulate her and tell her that her performance was impressive. The Detroit Free Press had run a small article about her, so she had calls from lots of family and family friends from Michigan.
As the season went on, she improved, and was pleased with her results. She learned to go on the attack and started developing a driving style that was characterized in a motorsport blog as “surprisingly aggressive”. It was fun to see those words in plain black-and-white. It felt like a challenge of sorts - like nobody had expected her to drive like a real driver because she was a girl. At first, hearing people doubted her was a little bothersome, but eventually, she just let them fuel her - she loved proving people wrong, after all.
She also, pleasantly, found it a lot easier to make friends with the other drivers than it had been in karting, at least, she thought. There was another American on her team for both series, a boy from New York named Ryan. She also liked talking to the British kids because they spoke the same language as her and she had now spent a considerable amount of time in the UK.
Her first season was more successful than she’d expected it to be. She had a handful of podiums, even starting on pole position once (which was, quite frankly, terrifying - it was her first experience being the hunted instead of the hunter). She hadn’t managed to get a win, but her team managed to win the Teams’ Championship by the end of the season in both series, which her respectable results contributed to. She loved racing more than she ever thought she could. She had the time of her life during every race weekend, even on the race where she'd had a retirement due to a suspension failure.
The next season was more of the same - the same thrill, the same impressive results. She did well - a handful of podiums, and three races where she’d started on pole.
Circuitio de Jerez, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain October 18th, 2015
By the time the second season ended, Bee was almost sad to be moving up into Formula 3. She really enjoyed the atmosphere of Formula Renault, and had a good relationship with everyone on her team. Before qualifying for her final race, her team principal almost made her cry by telling her how proud he was of her, and how he couldn’t wait to see where her career went. “I know you’ll go far.”, he told her as he pulled her into a tight hug before wishing her luck.
She had already signed to another team for Formula 3, because her team, Kaufmann racing, didn’t compete in F3.
Susie and Toto had also made it to her final race weekend, which was in Jerez, Spain. They sat in the grandstands with Bee's parents, despite the fact that they would easily be able to access the paddock - who wouldn't have known who they were? (As it was, Josephine had told Bee after-the-fact, the two of them being in the grandstands had caused quite a stir amongst people sitting near them.) Bee was surprised they’d come, but it was an off-weekend in the Formula 1 calendar and Susie said that she really wanted to see Bee’s last race in Formula Renault. They had established a tradition of doing an unofficial debrief on the phone after each race weekend - Bee felt that Susie’s input was invaluable, even though she wasn’t actually watching the races, but she’d watch videos of them. Bee was certain she wouldn’t have been as successful without Susie’s guidance.
Bee managed to close her Formula Renault career with a bang, with a second-place finish in her final race. An actual win had eluded her throughout her Formula Renault tenure, but at that moment, standing on the second step, spraying her gridmates with celebratory champagne, still sticky with sweat - it didn’t matter. She felt like she was on top of the world.
Toto and Susie took Bee and her parents out for a celebratory dinner after the race. Bee had a gift for Susie to thank her for all of her help in both seasons, but it was a bit large to bring to the restaurant in a subtle way. She stuffed it in her backpack anyway.
After they’d finished dinner, Bee spoke up.“Susie, I have something for you, just to thank you for all of your help these past two years. I don’t think it would have gone as well as it did without your help.”
She reached under the table where she’d stowed her backpack and unzipped it, producing her race helmet.
“I know it’s a Red Bull helmet, but I wanted you to have it. I remember Sebastian telling me once that he liked to exchange helmets with other drivers he liked and respected, so… I thought I’d give you mine from this year. I hope that someday I’ll be able to give you one of my Formula 1 helmets.”
“Oh, my goodness, Bee.” Susie said, accepting the helmet from her, setting it on the table, and pulling Bee into a hug. “I’m so proud of you. I’m sure you will someday, and I can’t wait.”
Josephine insisted on getting a picture of the two of them together, which Bee was a little embarrassed about, but she obliged anyway.
The next morning, while Bee was packing up her hotel room for the trip home, Bee’s grandmother called her and told her to check the website for the Detroit Free Press if she could.
“Why?”
“Just take a look! I think you’ll like it!”
Bee navigated to the paper’s site on her phone’s browser, and it took a second to realize what she was seeing. Where the front-page article is usually placed, there was a giant picture of herself on the podium, spraying her competitors during the victory celebration. She had an enormous smile, her dark hair was still tied into the French braided pigtails she’d always worn under her helmet, but the braids were a frizzy mess. She had her 2nd place podium hat on, and the picture featured blurry drops of champagne in the foreground, and the American flag illuminating an LED screen behind her. It was the kind of image you would see on a poster.
The caption read:
“Phoebe Stallard, 16, Sterling Heights native, celebrates on the podium for the 2014 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series. Stallard placed second in the final race of the series at the Circuit of Jerez, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. She will be competing in the European Formula 3 race series in the upcoming season.”

Driver Profiles: Oscar Piastri
Hello, this is part of a series where I focus on one driver on the current (as of Oct 2024) grid and give an overview over their career and driving styles. I will be going in championship points order. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Name: Oscar Jack Piastri
Age: 23
Nationality: Australian
Years in F1: 2 (Mclaren 2023-Present)
Number: 81
WDCs: N/A
Driving Style: Piastri is most well known for his calm demeanor, and it is incredibly rare to see him ruffled. This also translates to his driving, which is composed, methodical, and precise. He is one of the cleanest drivers on the grid right now (rare for a rookie) and since the Mclaren car started having more boost this year, he has shown to be ambitious. As he spends more time in F1, he is beginning to gain recognition for his overtakes. Many have noted that he overtakes when people least expect him to, essentially meaning he is not really following the typical overtake playbook. We saw this happen against Leclerc in Baku 2024 and Norris in Monza 2024. While he is still new to the grid, he has shown he can adapt very quickly to high levels of competition. My only criticism is that he tends to not qualify particularly well. If he could fix this one aspect, he would be on the podium (at least) every race with that speedy Mclaren car.
History:
Son of a wealthy businessman, Piastri started his karting career in 2011. By 2014 he had gone professional, and competed in various Australian races and championships. 2015 he began competing in European and other CIK-FIA karting championships . In 2016 he moved to the UK in order to further his career.
Tumblr media
(young Piastri in karting)
In 2016 Piastri landed his first big sponsor, which allowed him to enter into single seater racing for the first time. Later in 2016, Piastri made his single-seater debut in selected rounds of the Formula 4 UAE Championship  and claimed two podiums, taking sixth in the championship. He would go on to take part in F3, GP3, and F2. When he took part in British F4 championship he took 2nd place home. For the next few years he would make appearances in various different series and championships, but never gain himself a title.

In 2020, PREMA Racing, the reigning F3 champions, signed Piastri for the upcoming season. It was during this season that his potential really came out, as he regularly found himself on podiums and on the top step. This led to him clinching the F3 World Championship for 2020 with a tight three-way battle. At the end of this season, Piastri announced he would be graduating up to F2 with PREMA Racing. He would go on to win 6 GP's for the 2021 season, and joined Charles Leclerc on the short list of drivers who won the F2 championship in their rookie year.
Tumblr media
(Piastri, 2019)
In 2020 Piastri joined Renault Sports Academy, and was the reserve drive for Alpine (Renault) in 2022. After Fernando Alonso left Alpine for Aston Martin, it was assumed by most (including Alpine) that Piastri would be part of their driver lineup in 2023. This, however, was proven to be false as Piastri had already signed a contract with Mclaren for the 2023 season, replacing Daniel Riccardo.
Tumblr media
(Piastri as Alpine's reserve driver)
The 2023 season at Mclaren was his first official year as an F1 driver. He had a rather impressive rookie year, getting up to 11th in the championship by the end. He acheived his first podium at the 2023 Japanese GP, taking third behind his teamate. Shortly after he received his highest finish in Qatar, taking 2nd place. While he did not match his teammate Lando Norris points wise, he was universally praised. Halfway through the season he reupped his contract with Mclaren, extending to 2026.
Tumblr media
(Piastri in the 2023 Mclaren)
The current season has seen Piastri get his maiden win. Unfortunately for the driver, his win at the 2024 Hungarian GP was doused in controversy, as a very public mess with team orders led fans to say the win was given to him by his teammate. He went on to get his 2nd win at the 2024 Azerbaijan GP (Baku) where he held off Charles Leclerc for 1st after a much admired overtake. This win was his first one without the cloud of controversy hanging over it. All in all, the 2024 season has shown that Piastri is a competitive driver.
Tumblr media
(Piastri on the podium in Baku)
Major Races:
2023 Japanese GP - Piastri's first podium displayed that he could battle with the top drivers. His consistency and control throughout the race are what helped him get up on the steps.
2023 Qatar GP - Piastri's second podium and highest finish in 2023. His composure was noted as a huge boon in this stressful race, and he only benefitted from the previous days sprint win. Wins always give drivers more confidence.
2024 Hungarian GP - A controversial win to be sure, but Piastri excelled in this race. He overtook his teammate early on in the race and held tight to the lead, only losing it after a Mclaren strat failure. His teammate was then ordered to give the position back, which led to Piastri's win, but nonetheless it was an excellent race by Piastri
2024 Azerbaijan GP - By far Piastri's most impressive race. Baku is an intimidating circuit, but Piastri took to it with ease. His overtake on Charles Leclerc mid race (which in itself was impressive) allowed him to stay ahead of the Ferrari. He then went on for a majority of the race with Leclerc less than a second behind him and putting pressure on. It was Piastri's calm head that won the race, as well as the minimal mistakes he made, not giving Leclerc a single chance to get by.
Alrighty that's it for Piastri. I know there are less major races than the others, but he has been in F1 for a short time. Up next is Carlos Sainz.

I’m currently on the fence about Nyck De Vries, is he unlucky or has he been flattered by results once his biggest competitors have moved on?
Let me start this saying Nyck has more than proved himself. F2 champion, finished 4th the year before behind George, Lando and Alex in a season the 4 of them pretty much dominated F2. Formula E Champion. Karting World Champion. Test and reserve driver for Mercedes. Sim driver for Mercedes and McLaren. The guy has the CV. There is just one question mark. His age.
Nyck at 27 is roughly the same age as Carlos who is in his 8th season of F1.
Now recently, rightly or wrongly I’ve been using Lando Norris as a bench mark. Hear me out. Lando came to F1 at 19, but had his super licence at 18, the first opportunity he could get it. Now I grant you, Lando flew through the series and he went right through, karting, MSA, Formula 4, Toyota Series, Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula 3, Formula 2. (No fast track from F3 al la Verstappen or Stroll). He competed every level and won everything on the first attempt, except F2 which he was vice champion, but by that point it didn’t matter, he had enough super licence points prior to F2 and an F1 seat for the following year.
So theoretically, with enough talent, backing and determination, under the new super licence rules you could get to F1 at 18/19.
So I therefore looked at the people the same age as Lando and how long after him them got to F1. Mick Schumacher followed Lando through the ranks. They both couldn’t win in the same year so this was still impressive. He arrived two years later. Callum Ilott was F1 ready the same year. Filipe Drugovich has taken 3 seasons of F2 to get on F1’s radar and even now he’s not seriously being considered. The list of drivers languishing in F3, F2, Indycar and god knows what else, who are 22/23ish now is painful.
So why does this concern Nyck?
Well because realistically Nyck was at the front of the queue. He was McLaren’s development driver before Lando even got in a single seater. F1 knew who he was a decade ago, but slowly Carlos Sainz, Charles Le Clerc, George Russell, Max Verstappen, then Lando, now Oscar Piastri became the ones that were touted as F1’s future stars. The big teams scrambled to sign them up instead and get them in an F1 seat as soon as humanly possibly.
27 is old by today’s standards to make an F1 debut. Was it deserved, absolutely. So why has he had to wait so long?
And this is my question. Is Nyck De Vries a talented driver that has just been unlucky, wrong place wrong time, not in fashion enough, no big money behind him to get the shot he deserves. Overtaken in the queue by the latest young superstar.
OR
Did Monza, a track that was always going to be strong for Williams flatter him and, had he made his debut in Bahrain or Australia as most of the others, would he have struggled? 🤷‍♀️
More importantly why haven’t teams moved for him before? The only instance I can find is the 2019 Red Bull too many seats not enough drivers saga. With Lando out of Red Bull’s grasp and Nyck realising he’d lost his shot at the McLaren seat, he asked McLaren if he could be released to Alpha Tauri. They said no. Presumably having just promoted one test driver, they didn’t want to lose the other. But then why was he not considered in the mess of seats in 2021, or given the Williams seat for 2022? Is there some reason teams don’t want to work with him? Is there data that says the others were just faster, better, more consistent?
Here’s the crazy thing though. Until he gets a full season we have no way of knowing. And if no one gives him a seat, we’ll never know.

Previous       Next,
------
3 weeks have flown by and Sunday tomorrow morning Bucky, Steve, and Wanda were leaving for their mission. You’d always be worried when the team would go on missions for long periods of time; it made you very nervous. You knew they were all perfectly capable of defending themselves and fighting bad guys without getting hurt too bad, but it still worried you and there was always a chance that one of them would not come home. Still, you tried to push those thoughts to the back of your mind and not worry about it until it actually happens if it does.
5:30am. You were woken early the next morning by Steve gently shaking your shoulder. You stirred awake and opened your eyes to see him looking down at you with a light smile. “Hey, we’re about to leave, you wanna come outside to see us off?’ You nodded with a sigh, getting up from the bed and clingily holding onto Steve’s arm the whole way down to the backyard, where the Quinjet was. As you and Steve walked out of the building, you shivered lightly. The morning breeze was kind of cold, and since you were still heavy with sleep, the transition from your warm bed to out in the open breeze made you wake up a bit more. Bucky and Wanda were waiting next to the jet and so were some of the other team members.
Bucky saw you coming closer and extended his arms to you. You quickly walked over to him and gave him a big hug. He lifted you up, still holding you tightly and kissing your cheek. “It’s gonna be okay. We’ll be back in 5 days.” He soothed, rubbing your back. You nodded with a frown and he put you back down. After that, you ran to Wanda, her smiling widely and hugging her. “I'm going to miss you, but don’t worry about me. You know I can handle myself.” You smiled lightly at that, nodding once again.
Lastly you went back to your brother, him lifting you up as well and you wrapped your arms around his neck. “We’ll be back, y/n, I promise. Just stay strong and have some fun while we’re gone. Okay?” You agreed and he put you down but crouched down a bit to whisper something close to you. “And I know it’s hard, but try to spend a little more time with Ruby Anne, okay? Invite her when you’re doing something and if it’s not too much to ask, maybe try to get her to spend a little time with Tony?” He asked. You nodded with a tight smile and he kissed your forehead. “That would be great. Thank you. I’ll see you in a week okay?”
“Okay.” You sighed, watching them enter the Quinjet and lift off into the sky. The other few members of the team went back inside right after they had gotten inside the jet, but you stayed until you couldn’t see it anymore. You hugged yourself, rubbing your hands on your arms to melt the goosebumps away. Peter had woken up right after they left. He planned to see them off today but he woke up a bit too late. But he went down and saw you outside staring at the sky.
He walked out and stood behind you; you still oblivious to his presence. “You gonna stand out here for 5 days until they come back?” He teased, chuckling when you quickly turned around to face him. You instantly smile and dull your eyes, trying to show you're not amused with his comment. You walk into his embrace when he opens his arms towards you. He leads you to one of the benches outside and you both sit down, Peter still holding you to him. Luckily, he had brought his blanket down with him, because after months and months of early morning patrols, he knew it could get chilly in the mornings. He wrapped you up in his blanket and you both stared out into the yard. It was still dark, so you couldn’t see much, but still. Sitting outside in the early morning, it being dark and foggy, felt weird. Unreal. Like the whole world was asleep and you were the only one awake. You and Peter stayed on the bench for about 10 minutes before you got sleepy and he did you the favor of carrying you to your bed. He knew how hard the first days could be when they would leave for a mission, so he laid there with you until you fell back asleep.
-----
Over the next three days, you have continuously tried to get Ruby Anne to spend some time with Tony. After many failed attempts at that, you knew it was going to be near impossible to get them together in the next 2 days. So instead, you moved on to trying to get her to spend time with you. Peter had recommended the three of you to do something fun today, and suggested you ride the go-kart. You were ecstatic at the idea, and thought maybe this would be something that would interest Ruby. You made your way to her room.
You knocked on her door before opening it, finding her sitting up against the headboard on her bed. You smiled and greeted her before asking the question. “Hey, do you wanna ride in the go-kart? It’s really fun!”
“No thanks.” She mumbled, rolling her eyes. You were just about fed up with that phrase, having heard it maybe more than 30 times in the past 3 days, so now, you were desperate. You quickly sighed.
“Please?” You pleaded, catching her attention. “Peter and I… are kinda lonely so if you could ride with us, that'd be great. It’s a big kart. 4-seater.” You said, fiddling with your thumbs a bit.
She looks at you for a moment before rolling her eyes and sighing dramatically. “Fine, whatever.” She gets up and walks past you, walking out into the hallway on her way to the backyard. You roll your eyes slightly and put on a fake smile and turn around, walking behind her. “Great!” You chirp.
-----
Peter was already starting the kart outside, waiting for you. You and Ruby walked outside and she jumped in the backseat while you got in the front. Peter turned to give her a small smile, which surprisingly, the end of her lip quirked up a millimeter. Peter turned to look at you with a smirk. “Ready?” You giggle and nod, squealing as he speeds off.
Peter starts to laugh and you put your hands in the air and howl. You laugh as your hair gets caught on your face and Peter makes many sharps turns and goes faster. “WHOOOO!” You and Peter howl in unison. You turn around briefly to see if Ruby is having fun. She’s pressed against the back of the seat, her hair flying everywhere and her nose is scrunched up, and her lips are pursed. You turn back around and just enjoy the ride as Peter circles around the compound and the small extension buildings around it. You and Peter are in a laughing fit when he gets close to the starting point.
He slows to a stop and you and Peter jump out to switch seats. You notice Ruby quickly jump out and start to walk away. You furrow your eyebrows and Peter is in the back, watching as she leaves. “Where are you going?’ You ask, confused. She doesn’t turn around, making her way to the door.
“Inside. I went out like you wanted, now I can go back to minding my own business like I like to do.” She shrugged, reaching for the handle.
“But… I thought- “
“You thought what?” She turns to look at you, her hand holding the door open. “That we’re friends now?” She asks incredulously with a brow raised. You stand there in silence and in shock of how sassy her behavior could be. She scoffs and leaves, the door closing slowly behind her.
“I was gonna say I thought she wanted to have a turn to drive the kart.” You say exhaustedly, groaning in mild frustration. You lean against the kart and sigh. Peter walks over to you with an apologetic smile and pats your back.
“It’s ok y/n/n, give her time.” He says. You’ve heard that phrase 20 too many times. You scoff and raise your hands in the air.
“We have given her time! Peter its been months and we’ve gotten no closer to fixing things! Tony is so upset and I’ve never seen him like that. Even when he gets his feelings hurt, he never lets himself look vulnerable. But now, he might as well wear a shirt that says ‘I'm miserable’.” You sigh.
Peter bites his lip, knowing that it’s true. “Okay, but you're being too hard on yourself. This isn’t your responsibility to carry all by yourself.”
You groan. “But I feel like it is. Tony’s own daughter isn’t showing him any love so I feel like I have to fill in that gap. And I was, before he knew he even had kids, but now I feel guilty because I feel like I'm taking him away from her. She needs him.” You pause and take a deep breath, closing your eyes to think. “But… you're right. I can’t let this bring my mood down, I'm focusing too much on this. Ughhh I need to distract myself.” You groaned, rubbing your face with your hands.
Peter smirked, moving closer to you. “Well… I do know one thing that gets your cheered up when you're upset.” He sang. You looked at him for a second before realizing what he meant. You groan, a smile already creeping up to your face. “Peter noo.” You whine. He smiles evilly before shaping his hands in a claw. “Peter Yes!” He laughs, snatching you off the ground and laying you down on the grass.
You scream and fall into hysterics as Peter snakes his hands up your shirt to scribble all around your belly and sides, occasionally surprising you and tasing your upper ribs. You're a giggly mess in under a couple of seconds, squirming around in the grass and squealing as Peter bends down to blow raspberries on your neck. He chuckles, his head between your shoulder and your head, laughing at your hysterical reaction. You push at his shoulders but of course, it doesn’t move him an inch.
“Okahahahay! Ihihihim cheered uhuhuhup!” You beg, cackling when his fingers begin to dig into your hipbones.
“Nope! Not until I'm satisfied!” He teased, rapidly squeezing your thighs. You shriek and dissolve into silent laughter, only letting out small hiccups and squeaks. Peter laughs and goes to your neck, digging his fingers into your collarbone, causing you to melt onto the grass and make your laughter bubble up. He stays there for a few minutes, teasing you about your squeaky laughter while you roll side to side, trying to shake him off. “Maybe I should get your feet,” He thought to himself out loud, smirking when you protested loudly.
“NOOHohohoho!” You turned on your belly quickly and wiggled out of his trap, running away. Peter quickly stood up and went after you. “Where do you think you're goin’?” He chuckled, gaining on you. You giggled nervously as the anticipation was killing you. Your frustrations were long forgotten as you ran, a big smile gracing your features. It wasn’t long before Peter caught you, lifting you up bridal style. You wrap an arm around his neck to keep you stable. He looked down at you with soft eyes and a light smile. “You feel better yet?” He asks.
You nod with a smile, still panting. “Yeah.”
Peter grins, as his plan had worked, and puts you down as you pant and let out giggles. You both go inside and make something to eat. You decide on tacos so you are cooking the meat and Peter is cutting the tomatoes, avocado, cilantro and cooking the tortillas. Clint and Pietro walk in the kitchen, claiming they smelled tacos and you both offered to make them some.
After you all had eaten, you were down in the second living room watching some tv. You were missing your brother right now. Especially Bucky. He would always sit with you here and watch tv with you no matter what was on. He was always so picky in choosing what to watch for movie night, but when he sat down with you, he’d never complain. You smile and pull out your phone, staring at the black screen. You wanted to call them so bad, but you didn’t want to disturb or distract them if they were somewhere important. You put your phone back in your pocket and decided to go upstairs to practice ballet.
-----
You got out of the shower and put on some comfy clothes. You hung out a bit with Tony in his lab, you were sure you were annoying him by now but you didn’t really care. You were just so bored. “Am I annoying you?” You smirked. Tony didn’t look up from his work when he answered.
“Of course not, Princess.” He chirped. You picked up on the sarcasm in his voice and giggled.
“Sorry, I'm just so bored.” You shrugged.
“Yeah, I get it. I don’t mind having you here with me, Trouble, as long as you don’t touch anything, or say anything, or ask me any questions, or anything like that.” He said. You laughed and swiveled around in your chair. He sounded serious like he always does, but there was always a small smirk on his face that would let people know he’s kidding. You didn’t want to mention anything about Ruby Anne right now, because you didn’t wanna ruin the moment or get him in a low mood. So you just kept the conversation positive, and eventually you convinced him to let you help him with a few parts of his suit.
----
The 2 days flew by so fast, and you were grateful. Peter kept you distracted most of the time, and going on about your day made the hours go by faster. The day was finally here! Your brother, Bucky and Wanda were coming home this afternoon and you were ecstatic. Suddenly, the few hours that were left before they would come home felt like days. That was always frustrating. You laid sprawled out on the couch in the small room that led to the outside, waiting for the rumbling sound of the jet. You were there for about 2 hours, playing on your phone, doing handstands, ect. You were about to just take a nap on the couch when you finally felt vibration from outside and you sat up with a  gasp. The jet was landing and you squealed, running outside. You stood pretty far away still, since the jet was still stabilizing in the air. You brought your hand to cover your eyes as big, warm gusts of wind came out of the jet before landing on the ground, the wings curling up after.
The door to the Quinjet dropped down and you ran to your brother, jumping in his arms. He caught you and held you tight with a big smile. “I missed you so much.” You mumbled against his shirt. He put you down and you ran to Bucky, giving him a tight hug. He had many bruises and scratches on his face, which made you frown. But he smiled widely and assured you he was okay. You nodded and then went to hug Wanda. She returned your embrace and sighed. “I’m glad you're okay.” You hummed.
----
After the team welcomed them back, you assisted Bucky to the medical wing to get patched up. Bruce was applying alcohol to some cuts on his back, and you insisted to apply hydrogen peroxide instead, using it to attend to the cuts on his face. Bucky had a faint smile throughout the process, thanking the both of you when you were done. He patted his lap after, motioning for you to sit. You giggled, recalling all the times he’s mentioned to you that you’ll never be too old to sit on his lap.
You hopped on and he held you close, asking him about the mission and what he had to do. He explained that he was tasked with distracting the enemies while Steve and Wanda gathered the information they needed. He assured you that he was fine. “Don’t worry about me though. I can take a few hits.” He smirked. You had a faint smile on and leaned your head on his shoulder.
“I know. I just get worried that one day you won’t be able to fight them off.” You sigh. Bucky stayed silent for a few moments, wanting to change the subject to something more positive.
He smiled and looked down at you with an eyebrow raised. “What, you don’t think I can hold my own?” He asked, poking your belly. You instantly started giggling, halfheartedly pushing at his hands and hiding your face in his shirt. “Huh?”
“Yehehehes.” Your giggles began to sound more desperate as he began to creep up to your ribs. You started to squirm around a lot more, not bothering to hold in your laughter. Bucky chuckled, smiling down at you fondly before giving you a break. You sighed in relief and leaned into him.
“I’ll be ok, y/n/n. Don’t worry about me. Or your brother. We’ll be alright.” He hummed, resting his chin on your head. With Bucky slowly rocking you side to side on his lap, you couldn’t stay awake as you fell asleep without the small feeling of worry you had before they came back.
