April 7, 1990
On this day 34 years ago Steven Adler performed his final show as an official member of Guns and Roses, a 2 song set at Farm Aid. The performance included the songs “Civil War” and “Down On The Farm”, a song which later appeared on The Spaghetti Incident album with Matt Sorum on drums.
Steven would make a few guest appearances during the “Not In This Lifetime” reunion tour but there seems to be no chance that he will permanently return to the band in the future.
Have you seen Steven perform solo in the past few years? Do you think he could do a GnR tour?

name your vecna-defying song (with or without explaining the choice) and tag 5 st buddies to answer the same.
thank you thank you thank you @spinmewriteround for the tag!! this is so cute. I have so so many tbh but the one i keep coming back to is:
okay okay small explanation cause the amount of nostalgia and comfort i get from this raunchy af band is ridiculous. - my dad is a HUGE gnr fan so i’ve listened to them, and this album specifically, since i was way too young for their music. Like i have vivid and fond memories of listening to ‘Mr. Brownstone’ in my private, HELLA BAPTIST, elementary school carpool line and my dad quickly turning it down the second it was my turn to go inside. i used to think i was tough shit getting out of that car humming songs about marathon sex and hard drugs, all while in my little hair bows and red sparkly shoes. When it comes to this song specifically - this is the song my dad would always turn in his seat to sing to me at red lights, would hum painfully out of tune when he would come wake me up for school in the morning, and the song we scream-sang to each other at the gnr reunion concert in New Orleans. because of him- it’s the song i always gravitate to after a rough day, so i just KNOW this would be the one to id be sprinting towards if vecna got my ass.
no pressure tags!!: @strangersatellites @outpastthebrakers @infinite-orangepeel @punkharringtxn @harmonictechnicality @ajamlessbaby (i took so long to do this so if y’all have already then sssh ignore me)

I got around to reading slash’s autobiography and Steven’s as well. On my next list is Duff’s and all I can say is there is so much because it did have some questionable and disturbing moments
First couple of chapters were getting involved into the drug scene so early before the fame and then having sex at 12-13 years old???
The amount of stuff people got away with back then because that would never fly today
I liked Slash’s book the best. Slash and Stevie put it all out there, pretty juicy and entertaining stuff. Duff’s was good too, no less entertaining, but definitely more toned down. I think Duff is a gentleman. I may be totally off base here, but in my mind, I see Duff as being a total teddy bear. Even in his raunchy days of debauchery, my heart tells me he was the sweetheart of the group. I just wanna wrap my arms around his tall lanky ass and hold him lol. Hug him so tightly. Kinda why I feel like we’d be best friends. He’d be the guy friend I’d go to for help and advice. And maybe my personal bodyguard. And when he wasn’t protecting me, we’d be…
Ok focus, Shells. Seriously tho. Me and Duffy would be great friends. Maybe with benefits. He’d sing Teddy Bear by Elvis to me and I’d giggle and laugh and blush. ☺️ Anyway. I noticed that out of the three of them (Slash Duff and Steven) they didn’t rag on Axl TOO much. They all had things to say, but I can’t remember anything said about him that was TOO vile. So that’s good. Y’all correct me if I’m wrong.
I still haven’t read Matt’s book yet. I’ve heard people say such negative things about it. About some of the things that he said. I do know he was (or felt like he was) shunned about the reunion tour, so maybe he had a right to be bitchy, who knows? I’m looking forward to reading it when I’m done with my current read. I never disliked Matt. He’s not Steven, for sure, but then, who is? I think Matt is an excellent drummer. Much much different in style than Stevie, but still awesome.
I liked Slash’s book best, I think. I like all the tea, tho. 😂🤷🏻♀️ Steven put a lot of shit out there, too. That one story he told of him and Izzy and a chick sticks out in my mind. This scene here, actually:
Such dirty, dirty boys. 🥵🤤😮💨
But yeah. I can’t imagine having sex at 12 or 13 years old. Or doing drugs. Although I DID huff paint thinner a few times when I was like, 11 or 12. And I tried ciggies. And I got horrendously drunk off a few sips of some kind of weird nasty cinnamon flavored liquor once. My stepbrother and stepsister were a few years older than me and a bad influence lol. But hey, they’re the ones who introduced GNR (and 80s metal) into my 10 year old life. I am eternally grateful to them for that.
Sorry for all the rambling. Did I even answer your ask properly? 😂
#anyway it’s always good talking to you anon#i love our convos#i adore you anon bestie#anon tag#shells rambles 💬

ROSE GUN TRIBUTE

We have to remember old industry tactics is why new gnr music hasn’t come out yet and rock is not mainstream as it once was
What old industry tactics? The classic release singles—release album—tour is clearly not going to work for them. First problem is that they’re already (always) touring, second is that an album seems highly unlikely at this point in time. Which is fine, I don’t think that they should release an album unless they’re going to make it their priority.
Rock music has been out of vogue for over a decade, bands have to adjust. GNR is already making money off of touring instead of record sales, which seems like the modern business model to me. New music would just be about drawing attention, keeping fans engaged because eight years is just too long for a reunion tour. New music to promote the tour, instead of the other way around.
Look GNR can be a band that makes music or not, I don’t care, but what kills me is the idea that they could release new songs and they just don’t.
#evidence seems pretty strong that there are finished gnr tracks — likely more revamped CD-era songs#finished doesn’t necessarily mean ready to be released & performed live#I’m sure there are reasons!#but#still frustrating#they still have the us leg coming up but tbh? if I were gnr I’d want to debut a song in Europe instead of USA. better crowds.#reply

interesting to me that you’re into axl because i get the vibe you’d be more into izzy since he’s got that cool kinda aloof vampire type aesthetic yk?
I definitely get that, and I do love Izzy a lot🖤 I don't think he gets nearly enough credit for everything he did for GNR, and I admire him getting sober when he did and deciding to throw in the towel on the band when he did. That couldn't have been easy, and I know in Duff's autobiography he mentions that everyone could tell that after Izzy got sober, he'd leave the band because he wasn't happy with how things were going between how the crew was being treated and generally pissing off fans. Also unrelated, but Izzy Stradlin and the Juju Hounds are so fucking good.
I think Axl and Izzy are so similar, and not just because they grew up together. Even though Axl is more outspoken, Izzy has such a strong personality too, it's just under a lot of layers. The fact that they're the only members of the band who haven't written autobiographies is so interesting because I feel like their perspectives are the ones everyone wants to get: Axl being the controversial and temperamental lead singer vs Izzy being more reserved and "mysterious" and the first member to voluntarily leave the band. I understand why they kicked Steven out (and forgive me because the early 90s were a mess for GNR) but as far as I remember, Izzy was most outspokenly upset about it, even though he himself was sober or in the process of getting sober.
I don't want to be like "oh Axl's my uwu baby who's never done anything wrong." A lot of people don't like him, which is their prerogative. I'm not going to argue people into liking Axl the way I do. Maybe I'm willing to give him more leeway which may be undeserved, but that's just how I've felt about him for a long time. I relate a lot to his struggles with mental health and his negative experiences with fundamentalist Christianity. It seems like he's doing a lot better now, and I'm so happy for that! Not to mention, his voice has held up a lot better than some of his peers. I mean, I'd still see GNR in concert if Axl couldn't carry a tune, but from videos I've seen, he's done a good job of keeping up his voice and adjusting songs for his present register.
Don't get me wrong, I love Izzy so much and I'm hoping he (and Steven) will be at my GNR show in August! I don't think he's a bad person for not getting in on the reunion, whatever his reasons may be. It's his life.
🦇 Battie
#this is incoherent rambling but im incapable of being normal about guns n roses sorry#also your comment about izzy having vampire energy...i am thinking about it#ask tag

Sober Izzy.
Izzy running to Indiana.
Chicago.
Izzy leaving the Juju Hounds and 93 GNR.
Axl and the clock.
Seymour.
Slash's lyrics.
GNR Reunion.
Rocket Queen.
There isn't much that could make this better. I can think of a few things, but not too much. But that is only because the amount of drama and stories is so vast, lol!!! But the video would go on forever. It's just another thing that makes this band so great. Great abs workout. Thanks so much. I bet Axl will see this.

Also call me stupid but I feel like tommy lee would throw a fit at that name, I'm talking the Big Dick Incident but instead with signs saying shit like "how did you know" or something.
Oh.
And maybe kazaroni's band get a social media account because they were so popular back in the day and they sometimes get into social media ribbing arguments that drive the fans crazy
The band speaking out on matters involving other bands they emulated back then (like the mars lawsuit or years ago gnr's split up and reunion and who the best slash replacement guitarist was)
And imagine the navy's surprise when they find out Kairo Jett and Iceman Kazansky, the COMPACFLT, are the same person. It's like axl rose being president or some shit.
Burst body organs because of excessive drug use (definitely not inspired by irl events)
Okay guys, I'm still drowning at work but here’s something good that's been keeping my head above water 🤣: retired rockstar Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
Ice is born to a pair of early hippies in VW Kombi bus painted with all the colors of the rainbow. He gets his first modeling gig after he's scouted at a Janis Joplin show on his Daddy’s shoulders, before or after Big Brother and the Holding Company.
Anyway, fact is that baby Ice ends up with his face plastered all over everything from Camels ads to diapers. He eventually ends up doing commercials and then bit parts on TV shows and movies. He does Disney for a good long while, with Bobby Driscoll levels of success. But by the time the mid-70s roll around — teenage Ice is the frontman of a heavier crossed with glam rock sorta band: think Def Leppard, Kiss or even Mötley Crüe (way before their time on the Sunset Strip).
Ice can sing just about anything the band needs him to — think Adam Lambert's levels of range, just straight-up incredible. He's tatted up from dick to tits and has tried just about every drug known to man by the time he's nineteen, starved himself for years, and spends every hour of his life pandering to people who don't give a shit about him.
At twenty-two he realizes that he doesn't even like himself anymore. He doesn't know who he is without being Kairo Jett (his stage name).
Then, his friends start dying.
It’s 1981, and sure they were occasionally dying before — booze, drugs or taking their own lives — but now they're all dying of something that doesn't have a name and he's terrified.
So, he quits and runs away to a life of structure that he's never had. He runs to the USNA, dyes his hair bleach blond, stops wearing heavy makeup, starts eating again and just becomes Thomas Kazansky — then the Iceman, a new kind of stage name.
The Iceman, who has shared the stage with all the greats of rock music, watches Maverick serenade their instructor in the O Club with one of his old songs and has never been more enamored with anyone in his whole life.
He falls ass over tea kettle the minute Maverick asks him if he's ever heard of the band Tommy Eats the Drum Kit.
Ice doesn't stop laughing for hours.
