They're one of my closest IRL friends and a queer artist who focuses on depictions of queer bodies. I didn't specifically reach out for permission, I brought it up during last year's Pride Month, we spoke about Noora, and they helped me design her jacket. This wasn't a formal thing, just a conversation with a genderqueer friend that helped me shape Noora's character.

I guess my question that I already know the answer to is: what about gnc men, especially gay ones?

my best friend is a gay man. people knew he was gay before even he did, based on assumptions about his voice, how he dressed, who he was friends with. he dealt with homophobia before he could properly even understand why, and this includes in locker rooms and bathrooms. he was in danger using the boys changing rooms and bathrooms. what about those gay men? should they also be allowed in women's restrooms? I've conveniently never seen this pitched as an idea.

and I remember that there was a day when a friend and I invited him in to the girls bathroom. no one was upset, it was a small town, the girls in our school all knew him, and most thought positively of him. it was fine. we talked and chatted through our skipped lunch period and no one cared. but he didn't ask it of us and he never did it again (aside, of course, from the time I had a melodrama outbreak during a school dance and he snuck in to snap me back into shape). he didn't WANT to use our bathrooms despite the risk of using the boys. he never asked it of us, never wanted to intrude on that space. why is this any different for trans women? why should they get a pass, because safety isn't an excuse anymore, it never was, our bathrooms are not a one-size-fits-all refuge.

it's strange how many people pin transphobia / hatred of gender non-conformity squarely on homophobia rather than on sexism. it can definitely overlap with homophobia, it can definitely be rooted in homophobia. but at the end of the day it's people saying "you can't act like that, you have the wrong genitalia" which is always sexist.

Lol cause I'm still upset. I'm just gonna rant about it here!

I genuinely despise being a queer man in this community. The way that cishet men treat me is just like awful sometimes and i'd rather they call me a slur. I'm just tired of the covert ways homophobia slips into things. Why are you so afraid I'll treat you the same way you treat women??? I never said I liked you. Or was interested in you. It couldn't be further from the truth actually.

I could feel the disdain from the screen. One dimensional characters until they see someone they deem fuckable and all of a sudden they have a personality. And this isn't just Tumblr. Can't believe this shit happens irl too (I'm being facetious). I would love to be there for my male friends but the way they shut me out because I'm not who they're romantically and/or sexually attracted to is so fucked to me. And I get it- if that's not what they're comfortable with then whatever. BUT am I allowed to be pissed off cause I know the reason is just rooted in homophobia??

Maybe this is the aroace experience of recognizing how FUCKED UP the world is for placing romantic and sexual relationships above all things. Especially with men who will treat their partners as caregivers and therapists (in an unhealthy way). But then men have high rates of su!cide... And mental health problems and substance abuse issues...

It hurts to be whittled down to a sex obsessed deviant or predator because I'm queer. I'm literally just some guy. I'm not entitled to your attention, that's fine, but don't confuse me trying to reach out or spark a conversation as me hitting on you or trying to manipulate you into doing things you're uncomfortable with.

I'm just here to try to connect with people on this silly lil blog. Not here to intentionally cause harm or make people uncomfortable. I just ask that people be a little kinder and think before they act.
