naah sexuality and gender is rarely part of the plot for me as much as it is just a fact of my character's lives (I ain't writing a romance here, all romance is more or less tangential to the mainplot. Loren: Nonbinary lesbian <3 Sometimes they're attracted to people who think they're men at the time but uhhh as the wording of this implies that opinion tends to be incorrect

Briar: How could a being of change be constrained to one form, to one label? If asked she'll say she's bi but that's purely for convenience.

Mal: she's a trans woman who is afab and people can fight her on it <3 she's also poly/bi and changes her labels like. all the time for fun and depending on who she's talking to. Being a little bit hard for others to understand is also part of her identity. sometimes she feels a lil otherkin sometimes she feels a lil therian sometimes she feels a lil sapphic you know? it changes

Leonore: is a cis woman who is not afab and people can fight her on that too. She's been a woman in her mind from day 1 and feels that her experiences match that of a cis woman and so she identifies as such. Regardless of what others might think about her body, this is her experience and the way she sees herself. She's bi with a preference for women

Envy: Genderfluid, their sexuality is also fluid which has been a bit awkward for them in the past when they've been dating guys and suddenly just. not attracted to men. Awks. It comes and goes so they use different terms to fit how they're currently feeling.

Violet: questioning cis woman. She's unsure. She'll get there eventually, when less things want to capture her and steal her voice <3

Kyra: Butch lesbian <3 She has not disclosed this with her coworkers but they do know she's dated women in the past. She's not sure if they know about her involvement with Mal but she sure hopes not

I know there's a few more but I got distracted so if you want to know abt anyone specific I missed, let me know!! haven't done the Voices bc I feel they don't really use labels in this world very much. (in my other stp au however... but i digress). Generally as a blanket people use He for voices and She for perspectives, but that's purely public opinion based off of the stories. If they felt strongly enough about it any of them could use whatever pronouns they want. Generally they don't tend to feel that strongly about it here, but it also depends on their hosts!! they're creatures of belief, after all.

that gifset i just reblogged reminded me i never replied to this. iiiiiii think it's just a personal choice. even back in mcr 1.0 days, i think the band (the concepts and stories) was just an excuse to do what they really wanted to do (play around, dye their hair, cut it weird). i assumed the thought process was, "i have a show, lets cut the hair, lets cut it fun."

i also think it could be practical. during swarm tour, his hair visibly got in the way when it got wet and slapped him in the face (he'd push it or gel it back, wear it in a ponytail in one instance if im remembering right, hold his hair w a towel, wore that scarf the whole night at riotfest). gerard cut his hair a few times during the tour, most visibly b4 the la shows and b4 the 2023 shows (which was a couple inches off how short it was during wwwy!)

could be a character thing, it obviously has been related to that in the past lol. if it is, could be something about military short cuts, or even callback to the same significant cut in 06. could be to be more somber, to be a shock. and it was, the same way it was a shock in 06! but many times it also was not about the story ie the whole 02-05 period, the 10 thousand haircuts he had 07-09.

thoughts on the transfem winter hc??

OOOOOH it's never crossed my dash but I'm very intrigued :0

I've written a long post abt a possible transfem Turtle hc (lbr borderline au), so that's somewhat the lens I'm going thru for most of the jade winglet. I'm always hesitant abt trans aus that go against the canon genders of the characters for,,, semi obvious reasons of the implications??? but that hasn't stopped me before and it won't stop me again baybeeee

but Winter tho,,,, idk I think his story has A LOT of like. repression themes and self hate, but unlike Turtle I think you can see how much of it is more directed at like. his failure to be a Proper Icewing and how being a Proper Icewing basically stands in total opposition to his natural identity and beliefs (very much "good dragon born into bad society" kind of angle). I also really like the way Hailstorm and Winter are set up as foils so hrm,,,

I think for me it's 50/50 + has some funky nuances. I def love nonbinary Hailstorm a lot (gender identities informed partially by trauma woooooo !!!!) and I feel like that then gives me a fun leeway into transfem Winter and what about that hc does appeal to me. They have an underrated sibling dynamic tbh especially post-Pyrite bc like. Winter's always been the black sheep of his family next to Hailstorm and Icicle fall apart in their respective ways,,,, there's like a fascinating smugness and bitterness mixed in with like. feeling awful that his siblings are suffering and also guilt for being anything other than upset for them even though like. it's awful but for one precious moment HE isn't the fucked up one. HE'S the one that's going to win the day and prove to his family he isn't totally irredeemable. Their whole family is like so fucked up in such a real way it's actually wild to like pick apart. And then Hailstorm being the one to struggle to integrate back into Icewing society being what helps Winter realize the whole system is rotten and cruel, and how he's able to sort of develop empathy for himself thru the way that he recognizes when Hailstorm is being hurt and how that's not ok even if he can't quite recognize that it's not ok that he's also being hurt.

But like. I also think I like the way that ties into Winter being a boy. I feel like him being a prince specifically is important because it gives him even "less to give" to his family (especially compared to Hailstorm) and then makes his "redemption arc"/character growth even more compelling because he's learning to love himself wholly. I also recognize being transfem ≠ being a transwoman, and I do like the idea of like. bigender Winter tbh. give the boy a little he/she pronouns. as a treat. He's definitely got like some gender swag I'm always a little willing to get into, idk though I think it's not quite for me in how I view him n think about him.

I tend to settle on writing him as like. GNC. I do think by Icewing beauty standards he is a very androgynous/pretty dragon and I think it's funky if that's another thing between him n Hailstorm that's like. unspoken but relevant in how they're treated. He's just like a gay GNC man to me at the end of the day.

Sexuality Headcanon: WHORE. will go any which way without much prerequisite i think, definitely prone to doing things on a whim with no real commitment Gender Headcanon: Cis GNC man as far as my strange little brain is concerned. Honestly I could see him being on HRT despite still identifying as male? Though that might just be me thinking boobs would look nice on him LOL

Ship: Frankly unsure? I've seen a lot of Caramel Arrow and some Dark Cacao, but I don't think he has interesting dynamics with either. Maybe something with Espresso since they might have history together and their personalities don't clash with each other in a bad way all that hard? I mean they're both bratty twinks so it could work. You could also put him with Dark Enchantress, but that goes for like... Any of her (ADULT) underlings. BROTP: no one likes this guy. for good reason. i mean it in the best way possible tho <3 NOTP: As mentioned above, I don't really think he works with either of the DC Kingdom characters he's usually paired with. Not really anything I'd judge anyone over or feel uncomfortable about, just not something I subscribe to personally.

Random headcanon: Look as much as I do like him he's not a character with a lot of material to work with. He's like Pokemon villain levels of petty, simple-minded (not necessarily dumb) and slightly deranged. But I can at least come up with the fact that him having been roped in by Dark Enchantress is about 50/50 appealing to his ego and absolutely spoiling him with treats (something which funny enough Dark Cacao could probably have used to keep him in check if he ever realized it lmao)

General opinion: My feelings on him are... Mixed, somewhat? I guess? He feels a tad bit overdesigned even if I do like his core design traits, and in terms of personality I don't think there's really THAT much depth there. He's fun, yes, and I love how absolutely absurdly petty his motives for insurrection are, but I really don't know if Devsisters realizes that his inherent played-completely-straight silliness is part of his charm and so I fear that if he ever comes back it's gonna end up being a bit lost specially considering what little we got of him in Cookie Odyssey. Alas, what we do have of him in the main story is quite fun and charming. TLDR; i think his motives are incredibly silly in a good way and they've sincerely endeared him to me despite the few small gripes i have with him

General Opinion over said character: tagetes is such an interesting character because i personally don't tend to get SO invested into my villainous characters (evondra in tcol and viktor in vdtrt are exceptions, however i like to call them the "not really evil, they are just ruled by their circumstances types where they are the way they are because of the hand that life has given them), to the point that i'm planning on writing a whole story centered around their terrible, horrible misdeeds, but like its fascinating getting to write a character so unapologetically horrible lol. like they suck! and its really a lot of fun to write how much they suck! i'm kinda obsessed with them lolol.

Sexuality: he's on the mspec spectrum and probably the most romantically inclined of the sins aside from sion :3c he doesn't tend to stay in relationships for a long time tho and kind of flits to and from relationship to relationship depending on his mood. he has broken a LOT of hearts and usually has 4-6 flings going on at any given time lol

Gender: gnc masc but he uses he and sometimes they pronouns.

A ship I have with said character: i don't have a ship with him actually! i think he just kind of prefers not to be held down so i can't really imagine shipping him with one particular person, plus i haven't fully developed side characters for god eater quite yet; so perhaps in the future i'll have names for some of his flings lol

A BROTP I have with said character: he and ire are actually attached at the hip and even though she likes to deny how close they are they're super close and know each other like the back of each other's hands. he's dramatic and she's a hothead; its very jesse and james energy with the two of them lol.

I answered this one with the ao3 wrapped asks forever ago but I’ll say it again! I like the imagery in this scene and this is where I think my descriptive writing and sense of metaphors really fell into place, from bad idea!

The girl in front of Robin moved back and forth, alcohol strong on her breath. She laughed as Robin spun her and pulled her close, her breath hot on the stranger’s ear. She made pointed eye contact across the bar, watching as Nancy was illuminated in soft pink. It matched the shade of her lips—the blush Robin wanted to put on her cheeks.

Blue light shone down on Robin and the stranger, gleaming in the former’s stormy eyes as they met with Nancy’s ocean.

Waves crashed and lightning struck, filling the room with unbearable electricity. The lights met and flared in an intense clash of violet sky, and Robin knew she was doomed to be lost at sea. Her heart was racing with exertion and excitement, drawn against her will to the other girl—the girl who wanted to kill her. The girl who was probably planning her demise at this very moment. The thought was exhilarating.

I love writing her personality and trying to figure out how she would respond in certain scenarios—and since the Duffers won’t let her explore her trauma, I will!! Also as an eldest daughter burnt out gifted kid… She’s very projection shaped

Stick Season by Noah Kahan for sure! I still would really, really like to write a string of one shots for each song, but especially Growing Sideways, Northern Attitude, and The View Between Villages. I love his music and his voice and I think it’s very easy to ronancify this album lol

Oh this one is fun. Imma be cheesy about it. I learned to stop letting what other people think of me get in the way of having fun. I was so against ever writing fic because “I don’t want to be cringe and get made fun of.” Fuck that. I am cringe and it’s FUN. I will own it with pride. I like my silly little self indulgent fics.

I’m still thinking so hard about run, devil, run, which was a Wild West au featuring werewolf Nance and vampire Rob but I don’t think that one will stick. I go through a circle of phases of really stubborn hyperfixations and the wild west pops up as one of them but never stays for long. Was feeling it for a week, wrote one scene, then sort of dropped it to lowest priority

Oh god there are so many. I refuse to pick just one, but I’ll stick with 3 I think.

One of them (surprise) is you! a never ending story changed my brain chemistry. dungeon master rules lawyer repressed furious mega nerd comphet religious guilt traumatized Nancy my beloved!!!! Not saying I’d get a tattoo based off a fic but I am saying a d20 on 13 would be so cool… (also special shout out to DITM, I love that one dearly too, especially Martha) I also ADORE when you can tell a writer is into poetry and it shows in their word. Flowery prose and heart shattering metaphors my beloved

I have sung praises about this fic and I’ll fucking do it again. Bloodletting my beloved. I am once again in awe of the way @lavenderlevetan weaves the story and connects all the pieces. I love the dynamic and the way the tension builds. I am feral about vampires and biting, sue me.

And I have to say put me in the movies (on a king sized silver screen) by @sapphicriley is also one of my all time favorites. I love the back and forth banter and it’s sweet and fluffy and it’s just a feel good fic and I like to reread it when I’m feeling down. Another example of poetic writing as well <33

25: a fic you read this year that you would recommend everyone read

Well all of the one from above ofc. Also dancing in the moonlight. Also,,, Raise Dead by @eskawrites killed me and healed me. If you can handle the angst, this one is an incredible read and I cannot recommend it enough. I don’t really cry when reading, but this one actually had me in tears in the best way.

This is like asking me to pick a favorite child. God. I’m terms of writing, I have to say it’s between a few, but there’s this one rando who wrote this D&D fic and also one about monster fucking. You might have heard of her? I think her name is summersociety or something.

so aran!

i fucking love aran and he is so transable. you can really just trans him. he's perfect. i love him. transmasc aran? perfect. transfem aran? perfect. enby aran? perfect.

recently i've been really loving nonbinary aran, but i'm gonna talk in general first. i think he thought a lot about his transition. he did research and tried shit out on his own before he told anyone. not to get too serious, but i am in my psychology research brain today. i do think that he does really have to think about the intersections of being black in general, being black in japan, and being a black trans person. he has to be careful about how he goes about his transition, but i think he has a really good support system, and his family is really supportive of him.

i think transmasc aran gets top surgery as soon as he can, but i've been thinking about afab enby (and/or genderfluid!) aran who doesn't get top surgery but will bind. basically my thoughts on that for aran is they use they/he/she pronouns, but only for other trans people. cis people are lucky to even perceive them so cis people can only use they/them. trans people are also more than welcome to use gendered language with him, because he knows that they know she isn't part of the binary. i also love thinking about aran switching between fem/masc/gnc presenting, or mixing it all up!

i also like to think that aran likes to try different styles with their hair, and will try different styles of braids or other protective styles to see how they can express gender that way, you know?

also, sidenote, the twins (also trans) are so fucking in love with aran, and they think she's SO gender

and speaking of being so gender - kita!

kita is up there with akaashi on being very gender for me. idk what it is about him but he's just...gender.

(one of the very first hq fics i read was about enby kita, and i still think about it a lot)

i tend to lean towards enby kita, but transmasc/transfem kita is amazing too. i loooooove the conversations me and bex have about fem kita

i think kita has to be told by other trans people that cis people don't think about gender like that, and he's just kinda like "oh" and then is trans lmao

no matter which way kita is trans, i don't think they have much dysphoria, but i do think afab kita gets super dysphoric about their period (not projecting at all idk what you're talking about) but it's partly because of trans shit but also because of autism (no i will not be taking criticisms, kita is autistic it's canon...i can also tell yall my autism hcs...)

transfem kita is so fun to write! i think about her a lot. i think she so fun. i think because she works on the farm, she doesn't usually wear revealing clothes, and because of that, no one really sees the changes to her body from hrt (and top surgery lmao) so when she finally wears like shorts and a tank top or something she kills literally everyone that sees her

honestly tho, i love love love any trans kita, but they/them nonbinary kita just really hits for me. i don't have anything else to say about it lmao

i think aran was like "i'm nonbinary" and kita was like oh sick gender and now is also nonbinary lmao. also they are lesbians.

so we were talking about afab aran (they/he/she) and amab kita (she/they) and they're both on hrt but opposite ways
