Rhett's visible awkwardness in the end once more confirms rather than disproves things. He kissed Link on the cheek a few days ago, but he couldn't function at the moment he was explicitly told to do it, neither did it occur to him at the moment that it did not have to be a kiss on the lips. Link was amazing and so quick in freeing him from his discomfort by kissing Elvis instead but also making three points simultaneously:

that it did not have to be a kiss on the lips

that he is confident enough in whatever it is they have that he isn't concerned / worried / offended by Rhett's seeming uneagerness in GMM

that it's so easy for them to kiss strangers and employees but they shut down when they are expected to kiss each other

Emphasis on "expected". Which is why Rhett surprised us with his kiss on Link's cheek but they are not comfortable at all with the idea that it's other people pushing them to do it. I think sometimes they feel they are losing the authority over theirselves and their own relationship. They know people expect to watch for their own entertainment and this is the one last frontier they don't want to waste on random strangers' entertainment. Not saying they might not kiss at some point but if they did, I think they would opt to surpise us as much as possible so that it would feel like it happened on their own terms and not because some fans or the crew have been screaming they should do it.

A kind reminder for anyone new in the Rhett&Link tumblr fandom. If you want to avoid seeing fan content about shipping, don't look up the tag rhink. The tag is in place to make it easier for anyone to find and avoid the shipping stuff.

If you are against shipping them, that is your prerogative, but please, don't shame anyone who likes to ship them. I can't speak for every shipper in this fandom, but I'm sure most of us do this respectfully within our own space in the darkest corners of tumblr, because we understand the difference between real life and fiction. The relationship between Rhett and Link we see in the videos they make is inspiring in many ways, and that is why so many people ship them. They make it easy, and seem to be pretty okay knowing that they get shipped - having more than once leaned into it on camera themselves.

So, yeah, we know we aren't for everybody, we don't go shoving our shippy theories in their faces (unless they specifically ask us to, like for a past GME), and we understand that they have beautiful lives with happy marriages (to their wives). But under the rhink tag, we have a right to exist, build our theories and look for signs of something deeper, and write our fanfics - without being shamed.
