GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME?????
youtube
This is my favorite song of all music industry, from my favorite artist, "Five little monkeys jumping on the bed rap" by Father and daughter.
This song speaks volumes as to the social issues of not only the past, but the present AND future, it's practically a timeless masterpiece. It tells us about mob mentality, intentional ignorance, repetition compulsion and people being taken advantage of.
Not only that, these issues are being tackled appropriately by the music and ordinary people just in it for the song may not get the innuendos until they understand the lyrics.
Additionally, the music composed in the song is nicely made, so much so that it had pioneered numerous musical techniques and it is surely a piece ahead of its time.
Just Kidding, that's not the song I chose (though that still was a bop)
youtube
This is Simpleng Tao by GLOC 9. One of my, if not most, favorite song that reached my ear.
It is a Filipino hip-hop song, with acoustic guitar as its leading instrument, and what I like about this song is its overall vibe and its lyrics. The song is upbeat and the lyrics are rhymical, and the meaning the song is quite touchy.
It's not as dark as depression nor about heartbreaks, but it's about a simple guy with nothing much to offer but his love, that even though he's not rich, his love is genuine.

Zaturnnah & Sirena
Tumblr media
(Share our Kickstarter bit.ly/zaturnnah) "Sirena" is the Filipino word for "mermaid" but it's also slang for being gay. The origin of the term comes from a 1980s "comedy" sketch on local tv where a stereotypical macho father pushes down the head of his effeminate son into a drum of water then pulls them up & shouts "Are you a boy or a girl?!" the child says "Girl" then gets pushed down the water again & again until they beg the father to stop. "ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL?!!" Just when you think the tortured child would say "Boy" they weakly mutter "Sirena (Mermaid)" Canned laughter follows. End Scene. Child abuse as a joke. Those were, dumber, scarier times.
"Sirena" has since been more popularly known as a local Pride anthem by the artist Gloc9. The song tells the story of a father violently ashamed of his gay son. Said father eventually grows old & sick with no one caring for him until the very son he drove away comes back. He is humbled, sees the error of his ways & asks for forgiveness. It's a great song, look it up. Pop culture trivia aside, thank you to the kind humans of Studio Heartbreak for boosting our crowdfunding signal
Please help us make the Zsazsa Zaturnnah film (bit.ly/zaturnnah) & help grow queer cinema in the animated medium.
P.S. The Sirena music video of Gloc9 features a cameo by the creator of Zsazsa Zaturnnah.

1, 3, and 11? Any universe/fic of your choosing. :)
Thanks for this! We're doing the Manila AU for Les Mis.
1. If you had to create a soundtrack for your story, what songs would you choose? Why?
- I'd pick a mix of 70s-80s pop and folk music for flashbacks with Valjean, Fantine, and Javert, and some 90s punk, rock, and of course Spice Girls and BSB for the younger characters' flashbacks. Most of the soundtrack would be Filipino songs of different genres. The leitmotif though is "Rage" by the Jerks, or "Upuan" (The Seat) by Gloc9
3. If you had to direct a scene from your fic, what would you choose? Why? What would it look like? What techniques would you use to convey certain emotions? What would the set look like?
- I'd do the cafe scene from this snippet:
It's the last Christmas before the pandemic, so I want to capture a bit of the nighttime Manila I miss. The cafe lighting would be soft, in contrast to the chaotic Christmas decor and lights outside. And there would be some close ups of our main duo here, since it is a quiet moment.
11. The quiet moments in a relationship are sometimes just as important are the verbal ones; describe an important moment where the characters in your story shared a quiet moment (like sitting together while reading, watching tv with one another, bumping elbows in the kitchen in the morning as they make coffee, etc), and tell us why you consider it so important.
- So it's the early morning of May 10, 2022. It's not a morning any of these characters envisioned or hoped for. Enjolras, Eponine, and their friends are still awake in the couple's apartment. At one point Eponine gets up and shuts off the wifi, effectively forcing them to stop doomscrolling through horrid election results. No one protests, but it is a collective sigh of relief till one by one they go down for whatever sleep they still can find

Tacloban Tales x Siargao Stories
Female solo riders let alone female solo backpackers are still under fire. If only ecotourism is at the core of our stance as a nation, mhie, kakabugin natin ang Japan, SoKor pati na Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan. Don’t get me wrong. Since I spent almost a year in Palawan, naging firsthand witness ako dito. Been a long while since I revisited these core memories, but, I guess, it’s worth sharing or worth noting. TACLOBAN TALES I have two ex-team mates na part ng core team namin sa start up life ko. They flew to Manila and worked with us and siguro ang mga pinaka grabeng sharing nung isa sa kanila is tumigil mismo ‘yung tsunami sa harap ng bahay nila. Since he takes photos, he took out si camera right after ng bayo ng Yolanda. Every time may malakas na ulan, napi-PTSD silang dalawa kahit nasa Manila sila.  Two years after Yolanda, I flew to Tacloban for client management x socmed x community management x content tasks sa unang event sa Tacloban. I didn’t expect na halos walang pinagbago ang Tacloban nung last daan ko pa-Manila which is a year before. Effortless. Though alco beverage ‘tong event na ‘to, that’s actually beside the point. Parang security blanket ko siya and also, added value just in case magtanong sa akin ang clients. Back then, Andok’s pa lang ‘yung meron sa Tacloban. And super thanks daw kasi kahit alanganin pa rin since nga mahirap bumangon on their own, complete attendance ang mga artists na bitbit namin. My heart and spirit can still remember the swell of the glee. Dammmmndammmiiinnn. So kahit syempre, sinagad po naming lahat ang inom that night which lasted ‘til morning, keriii. Sulit. Sapul. Sagad.  Nung nasa airport ako, as an uhawing bata, bumili ako ng tubig sa isang stalls sa airport. ‘Di ko napigilan as a curious critter na tanungin kung kamusta na ‘yung tindera. Nanay siya and kasama niya anak niyang magtinda. Shemayyyyyyy. Looking back, sobrang na-hit ako ng Tacloban tales na ‘to. Kahit wala naman akong hangover, ‘di ko malilimutan ang lessons na souvenirs ko from this “basic” official business trip.  SIARGAO STORIES  2018. 8 days in Siargao. Sorrrnuhhh. Kung gusto mo naman ng putok na putok na island tour, Palawan is the place to be. Kung beach bum naman, Calaguas or Danjugan are really good choices. May digital detox pang kasama.  So ano ang charm ng Siargao? The people and the stories. Hamuna na chances of rain is very high. Sanay akong makipagsapalaran sa cloudy with a chance of rainfalls. I’m that kind of asikutera. Wala akong joy ‘pag maingay, maraming tao masyado.  I have two groups in my Siargao stay. ‘Yung isa, mix of PH and outside PH tourists. Marami ring solo travelers. Or baka, overthinker lang talaga ako. Tinanong din niya bakit daw kaya kahit nasa third world country ang Filipinos (in general ha and talagang honest question siya), even if we don’t have access to convenience and comfort, bakit we seem happy from within. Kung baga, ‘pag may shit, kahit iyak, tawa is life. Sinabi ko ring blessing and curse itong ganitong mindset since may embedded fake resiliency ang Pinas as a nation. Sabi ko, aynakow, good luck. Tawang-tawa nga ako kasi talagang may advantage ‘pag umiinom kang introvert. Paano raw niya ma-maintain. Hahaha. Sabi ko, keri lang. Sanay naman ako basta safe trip lang. Ending, 3 kami sa scooter then party hop. I don’t even do that in Manila pero as a people watcher, oks na oks sa akin ito. Jusq. As in, tabi po mga taga-Manila. Ending: Pinatay for a while ang ilaw sa buong Kermit that night after. Syempre, nagulat lahat kasi full house, then ‘tong si Manicks, may paganap pala. Pota. UGH.  Natuwa ba ako? Not much pero it is a very curious experience. I don’t celebrate my birthdays kasi and sabi ko, weird kasi wala akong ni isang kilala sa spot ko sa Siargao, pero nagawan nila ng paraan to make me feel special kahit ayaw ko ng ganun. I am not special. I never was. I never will be. LOL. Napadaan lang lagi ang peg ko sa life in all aspects.  Kasi, before neto, nag-surf ako with an instructor. Sabi ko, kasi ‘yung last night ng funeral ng mom ko is on my birthday. Naluha ako. Gusto ko lang umupo sa surfboard sa gitna ng dagat that time. LOL. Then sabi niya, may parating na alon. Sakyan ko raw since wala pa akong ni isang alon, wala pa raw akong nasabayan. Aba naman. So, syempre, sumakay ako. LOL. Walang hangover sa rum coke. Hangover pala sa pagkawala ng nanay. :D  Ayaw magpabayad ng instructor. Sabi ko, ‘wag ako. LOL. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I insisted and wala rin siyang naggawa kasi ‘di talaga ako papayag at natuto na ako sa mga surfer swabe moves. Tabi. Tabi. Tabi. HAHAHAHAHA. Opak. Very strong and responsible po tayong tourist ‘di ba po? We don’t shit in other’s backyard. Cinematic e. Very indie. Pati colors. Under-saturated. Close to sepia with pops of gloomy blues and greens. O baka imagination ko na naman ‘yun.  Isa pang nakakwentuhan ko dito is an audiophile from Davao na nag-move sa GL (General Luna) and natatawid niya ang pagiging web designer. He got me raw. LOL. Secret. (Plus, ‘di po tayo chixxxxx since birth talaga.) HAHAHAHA. Kwentuhan lang. Existentialism shit. Sabi niya, kelangan ba talagang lahat ma-visit? Does that really matter? Natigilan ako. Sabi ko, bakit naman hindi? Para lang ma-try. Sabi niya, go for stories. The location is but a background and foreground. Photographer shitballs po, opo si sir. Medyo older din siya sa akin so may baon na ring wisdom and wawawwww insights. One of the most chill kwentuhans and ang daldal niya for a guy. JUSQ. Kasi sobrang long overdue na nito since ‘yung last rebook ko na dapat Siargao ako mag-New Year x Full Moon Party. HAHAHAHAHA. So, game.

Nice. C2C only ever put out one album (Tetra) where Down the Road came from but that whole album is a vibe.
If you liked Kathang Isip, try also:
Estranghero - Cup of Joe
Raining in Manila - Lola Amour
Truth - Bamboo
Oo - Up Dharma Down
Tadhana - Up Dharma Down
Mundo - IV of Spades
If you vibed with Shanti Dope, the songs from him I'd say check out from him are: Nadarang, Materyal, Anong 5abi Mo?, Kamusta, Normalan, and MAU.
A couple more in close proximity to Shanti:
Dungaw - Gloc9
Titig - MC Einstein, Flow G, etc...
Cerberus - Abra
I feel like my music listening habits are stagnating a bit.
I need suggestions for stuff to listen to
Willing to give anything a shot

Gloc-9 returns with "TULAy," a new EP to push the OPM scene further
This 2019, Gloc-9 returns with "TULAy" a new EP that brings new music from the rapper and pushes the OPM scene even further.
Tumblr media
As its name suggests, Gloc-9 brings two concepts together in "TULAy" — it is a play on the Tagalog words "tula" (poem) and "tulay" (bridge), both terms signifying what the rapper wants to embody in this EP.
With years of hard work and countless hits under his belt, the name Gloc-9 has become synonymous to Rap Icon in the OPM Industry.
For one, hip-hop is at the forefront as Gloc-9 showcases his skills in writing hard-hitting and socially relevant verses, also experimenting with new styles and flows. But it does not stop there — while the beloved rap icon pushes his music forward, he also uses the EP as a platform to introduce youngblood to the OPM scene.
youtube
All five tracks bring forth collaboration between Gloc-9 and one or more emerging OPM artists. Tracks featured include "Maleta", the first collab between him and singer-songwriter Julie Anne San Jose, "Lagi" featuring rising OPM act Al James, "Pamaypay" with Tawag ng Tanghalan-alum and R&B singer JKris, and "Sino" featuring Abaddon and Smugglaz. Rounding up the EP is "Totoo" featuring Zjay and Lirah Bermudez.
youtube
With his passion for writing and creating relevant hits, and his dedication bringing the OPM scene to the forefront, it's no wonder that Gloc-9 continues to stay on top of his game.
Tumblr media
TULAy EP is now available for streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer,  Amazon Music and Spotify under Universal Records.
