Seven families with transgender or nonbinary children filed a lawsuit Tuesday over President Donald Trump’s executive order to halt federal support for gender-affirming health care for transgender people under age 19. PFLAG, a national group for family of LGBTQ+ people; and GLMA, a doctors organization, are also plaintiffs in the court challenge in a Baltimore federal court. It comes one week after Trump signed an order calling for the federal government to stop funding the medical care through federal government-run health insurance programs including Medicaid and TRICARE.

Galip Erdem, Fındıklı ilçesinde "Ofluoğlu", adı ile tanınan bir aileye mensuptur. Babası, Rasim Bey, annesi ise Zekiye Hanımdır. Ailenin tek çocuğu olan Galip Erdem, İlkokulu Fındıklı 11 Mart ilkokulunda bitirdi. Babasının memuriyeti dolayısıyla, ortaokulu Bitlis ve Siirt gibi farklı illerde tamamladı. Babası Rasim Erdem Narman nahiye müdürlüğüne tâyin edilince, Galip Erdem de Erzurum da lise tahsiline başladı ve 1949 yılında bu liseden mezun oldu.

8 Kasım 1951'de yedeksubay olarak askerlik görevine başlayan Galip Erdem, 31 Ekim 1952'de teğmen rütbesiyle bu görevini tamamladı. 27 Nisan 1953 tarihinde PTT Genel Müdürlüğü Ankara Yenişehir Merkezi'nde ilk memuriyetine adımını atan Erdem, 7 Temmuz 1954 tarihinde memuriyetten istifa etti ve Maliye Bakanlığı Milli Emlâk Genel Müdürlüğünde tekrar memuriyete başladı. 6 Ocak 1955 tarihinde bu görevinden de ayrıldı ve daha sonra da İETT idaresinde takip memuru olarak işe başladı. Ertesi yıl bu görevinden de ayrılarak GlMA TAŞ'ne girdi. Buradaki çalışması da 16 ay kadar sürdü. Bu arada Ankara Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi'nden mezun oldu.

Galip Erdem, Demokrat Parti'nin son dönemlerinde, 23 Kasım 1959'da Bayındırlık Bakanlığı'nda kısa süre Tevfik İleri'nin müşavirliğini yaptı.

1 Ağustos 1961'de Tercüman Gazetesi 'inde "Tercüman" imzasıyla ilk fıkrasını yazdı. 1 Ocak.1962'de Yeni İstanbul Gazetesinde fıkra yazarlığına devam etti.

10 Mart 1965'te günlük siyasi Zafer Gazetesinde fıkra yazarlığını devam ettiren Galip Erdem, daha sonra Sabah Gazetesi 'nde yazmaya başladı.

1 Temmuz 1966 tarihinde Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı Devlet Kitapları Müdürlüğü'ne müşavir oldu, 2 Nisan 1969 tarihinde tekrar fıkra yazarlığına başladı ve "Bizim Anadolu" Gazetesindeki bu çalışması, 31 Aralık 1969'a kadar devam etti.

Şubat 1971'de MHP fikriyatını savunacak yeni bir gazetenin finansmanına destek temini çalışmalarında bulunmak üzere Almanya'ya gitti. Bu vesile ile Almanya'nın birçok kentinde yapılan toplantılarda konferanslar verdi. 12 Mart 1971 muhtırası ile birlikte çalışmalarını yarıda bırakan ekiple Türkiye'ye dönen Galip Erdem, Devlet (Dergi) 'sinde bu seyahate ait notlarını "Biz Evropadayken" başlığı altında dizi halinde yayınladı.

Galip Erdem, 31 Aralık 1969'da Başbakanlık Plân ve Prensipler Dairesinde danışman olarak başladığı görevini istifaen ayrıldığı 30 Haziran 1973 tarihine kadar sürdürdü.

Galip Erdem, 1 Şubat 1974 te Ortadoğu Gazetesi 'nde tekrar fıkra yazarlığına başladı. 10 Eylül 1975'te Başbakanlık Müşaviri oldu ve 22 Temmuz 1981 tarihinde Turizm ve Tanıtma Bakanlığı nda Genel Müdürlük Müşavirliği görevi sırasında emekli oldu ve serbest avukatlığa başladı. Mamak'ta görülmekte olan ünlü MHP ve TÜRK MİLLİYETÇİSİ ÜLKÜCÜ Kuruluşlar Dâvasının avukatlığını üstlendi.

1987'de Meray'da (Merzifon Yağlı Tohumlar A.Ş) yönetim kurulu üyeliği, Konya Şeker Fabrikasında denetçilik görevinde bulundu. 1987 yılında Sosyal Güvenlik Eğitim Vakfı Başkanlığı görevinde bulundu.

15 Ağustos 1989'da Namık Kemal Zeybek 'in bakanlığı döneminde Kültür Bakanlığı APK Başkanlığı'nda uzman olarak görev yaptı. 12 Mart 1997'de Çarşamba gecesi saat 22.10 da Ankara Gazi Hastahanesi'nde vefat etti. Cenazesi Cebeci Asri Mezarlığına defnedildi.

• Galip Erdem 1966'da evlendi ve 1974'te boşandı. Galip Erdem'in bu evlilikten 1969 doğumlu Bilge Erdem adında bir kızı vardır.

• Galip Erdem, Karakedi (1950). Tercüman (1960). Ölçü (1960) Son Havadis (1961), Yeni İstanbul (1962-1963). Düşünen Adam (1962) Sabah (1965), Zafer (1966), Devlet (Dergi) (1969), Töre (1971), Bozkurt (1974), Ortadoğu/(1974), Her gün (1978), Ocak (1978), Yeni Sözcü (1981), Bakış (1981), gazete ve dergilerinde köşe yazıları, fıkra ve makaleler kaleme aldı.

• Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi doğrultusunda yayın yapacak bir gazeteye finansman sağlamak için; Hasan Sami Bolak, İbrahim Metin ve Nihat Yazar'dan oluşan ekibin başında, Şubat 1971'de Batı Almanya'ya gitti. 12 Mart muhtırası üzerine,4 aylık bu programı tamamlayamadan dönen ekip, yeterli finansmanı sağlayamadığından MHP adına müstakil bir gazetenin yayınlanması fikri de suya düşmüş oldu.

• 1958-1960 yıllarındaki Türk Ocakları Merkez Heyetinin yayın organı Türk Yurdu Dergisinin Genel Yayın Müdürlüğü görevinde bulundu.

• 6 - 7 Eylül olayları (1955) sırasında, Topkapı - Çapa dolmuşunda iken sebepsiz yere içindekilerle birlikte Emniyet Müdürlüğü'ne getirilen Galip Erdem, 45 gün Selimiye Kışlası 'nda gözaltında tutuldu ve daha, sonra suçsuz olduğu anlaşılarak serbest bırakıldı. Bu süre içerisinde 54 kilodan 39 kiloya düştü..

Galip Erdem'in ilk yazısı "Beşsanat" adlı bir dergide yayınlandı. 1948 de yayınlanan şiirinin adı ise "Bayrak" tır.

The debate over transgender healthcare has recently escalated to a fever pitch. Trans activists are engaging in censorious and even coercive tactics to shut down any critical inquiry into the safety or efficacy of immediately medicalizing anyone who presents with Gender Dysphoria or self-identifies as transgender. We, as members of the transgender community, and others with Gender Dysphoria, wish to disavow these tactics and to request our healthcare be as safe, rigorously researched, and apolitical as every other healthcare field. 

Queer Theory

We feel gender related healthcare has been polluted by an academic theory that seeks to blur the categories of male and female; gay and straight; cisgender and transgender. Queer Theory’s aim is a noble one: to shield oppressed people from the forces of their oppression by erasing the lines between oppressor and oppressed. However, when theory, rather than evidence, informs healthcare practices, safety is compromised. 

Queer Theory is a post-modern philosophy that started in academia in the early 1990s and has trickled out into the broader LGBT community over the last decade or so. Queer Theory posits that gender is just a performance; that male and female are merely learned behaviors that can be performed equally as well by either sex. Naturally, trans activists embraced this idea of gender being untethered from biological sex. And despite this view being difficult to translate into law or medicine, activists have been successful in working that understanding of gender into both. 

Today, most people who have adopted and perpetuate Queer Theory have no idea what Queer Theory is. They simply understand it as progressivism, or pejoratively, as ‘wokism’. But it is an academic philosophy - a lingual tactic - intended to protect the vulnerable, that has spread throughout the western world and ultimately become a state sanctioned religion. Indeed, in recent years it has become almost blasphemous to question the often contradictory tenets of Queer Theory. For example, that sex is both arbitrary and irrelevant, yet sometimes can be incorrectly ‘assigned’ and requires medical intervention. These are mutually exclusive views on sex and gender, yet anyone who points this out will be accused of hatred and wishing harm on vulnerable people. 

Gender Dysphoria

Gender Dysphoria is not a philosophy or a political agenda. It is a psychological condition whereby a person perceives the sex characteristics of their body to be incorrect. There are multiple pathways to developing Gender Dysphoria – all of which need to be better researched and better understood by the healthcare providers working with this patient population. But any clinicians interested in doing this research have been pushed out of their practices by activists who will not allow for any understanding of the trans experience outside of the Queer Theory view. This is only serving to harm the population the activists purport to be helping. 

As people living with Gender Dysphoria, we want competent, evidence-based care. This includes mental health care and thorough psychosocial assessment prior to any medicalization, at any age. What we are advocating for is not conversion therapy, despite what many trans activists often claim. According to the evolving standard for treating Gender Dysphoria, anything other than immediate access to hormone therapy and surgeries is misconstrued as conversion therapy. This is not only an absurd view of psychosocial evaluations, its causing unnecessary harm to young, vulnerable people.  

In Sum

Activists have created confusion about what “trans” is by couching it in an academic theory that deliberately obscures any definitive categories. In addition, they employ intimidation campaigns against any individual or organization that seeks clarity. As people with gender dysphoria, many of us transgender or detransitioners, we want to clear away the confusion and obfuscation surrounding our condition. For the safety and well-being of all trans and gender dysphoric people, we need our healthcare, especially our mental healthcare, disentangled from a well-meaning yet misappropriated academic philosophy.

Re: We have Gender Dysphoria. We want our healthcare back. An open letter to the major medical organizations writing guidelines for gender medicine. Now collecting signatures.

We are transgender adults concerned about the state of our healthcare system. We believe it is ideologically and politically driven to the extent that the condition – Gender Dysphoria (GD) – and the many pathways to it have become obscured by a political narrative. We don’t believe there can be competent, safe, evidencebased care when the very condition can’t be named, researched, and understood by patients and clinicians.

We are also concerned about the social contagion which appears to be impacting mostly adolescent girls. The scale of that problem is being minimized by those who either don’t understand the actual condition GD or don’t want to understand it. Similar contagions are happening among girls, such as pseudo Tourette’s, and Dissociative Identity Disorders, which they are picking up on social media and in peer groups. Pseudo versions of disorders are never quite like the actual disorders so, understanding the actual disorders is important for differential diagnosis and the protection of vulnerable patients.

Our healthcare system is failing these young people, as well as people with GD, by robbing us of evidencebased information about what our condition is. Clinicians aren’t telling us what the experience is and means, even though the different types of GD have been well studied for decades. Is there any other area of clinical practice that willfully denies patients meaningful information about their condition? There can be no such thing as “informed consent” or “bodily autonomy” if clinicians can’t tell us what the evidence says about our condition. We consider that gross negligence on the part of the medical establishment.

What we are given instead of an evidence-based explanation for GD is a postmodernist philosophy that attempts to deny biological realities. This is a political maneuver that is at odds with clinical care. We don’t believe that we as trans people need theories that deny the reasons why people take the step to medicalize, in order to achieve rights and acceptance in society. In fact, we believe it’s quite the opposite. We’re seeing more hostility, not more acceptance, as people are compelled to adopt an ideology they do not believe in. But trans people cannot be blamed for lack of awareness or groundedness about our unique experience, when the clinicians treating us are willfully ignorant of what they are treating.

This is the state of our healthcare system which young people are entering. It’s institutionalized medical negligence. What we want is an independent, systematic review of the evidence. Then, we’d like a system designed, with regulatory oversight, based on that evidence. We are asking for quality, honesty, and safety.
